 The “Iron Poet”,  Richard Serra 

(November 2, 1938 – March 26, 2024)

Renowned sculptor Richard Serra, known for his monumental steel structures that reshaped the landscape of contemporary art, passed away at the age of 85 at his residence in Orient, N.Y.

His groundbreaking works, characterized by massive tilting corridors and spirals of steel, offered viewers a unique experience, inviting them to navigate through and around the imposing forms to fully comprehend their essence.

Because of this invitation to explore space, materiality, and site, the artist has been long-recognized in the architectural community, earning him the Architectural League of New York President’s Medal in 2014, becoming the first artist to receive the honor.

The poster of my next solo exhibition at casa de cultura de Felanitx, Mallorca, called DIY (do it yourself) will be open from 23rd of August till 6th of October. Sculptures made with raw wood and metal.

Cartell-invitació de la meva pròxima exposició individual a la casa de cultura de Felanitx, sota el títol DIY, (do it yourself) mostra les meves últimes peces sobretot escultures realitzades amb fusta tallada i metall, 14 peces de fusta de pi, alzina, cirerer i olivera, combinades amb planxa de ferro o plom que configuren una asimètrica col·lecció d'eines amb les quals reflexionar sobre diversos temes. L'exposició s'inaugura el pròxim dia 23 d'agost en el marc de la Nitx de l'art de Felanitx i romandrà oberta al públic fins al dia 6 d'octubre. Aquesta mostra és conseqüència d'haver resultat guanyador l'any passat del Certamen d'Arts d'aquesta localitat.

The Turoe Stone

The Turoe Stone sculpture is a masterpiece of Irish Iron Age art and normally stands in the village of Bullaun near Loughrea, Co Galway. It had been moved in the 1850s from its original location near the Rath of Feerwore, an Iron Age ring-fort structure, at nearby Kiltullagh. The stone is currently off site and in the hands of the Office of Public Works for essential remedial work and unavailable…
