one downside of ebooks is that sometimes when I read them on my phone I try to click through the table of contents and zip to the middle of the book instead.

just started Iron Widow and was like "wow this book really starts in media res, I have no clue what's going on but I'm into the giant mecha fight" and then turned the page to the next chapter.... which was Chapter 44.

so. back to the beginning we go.

Does anyone know why the release date for heavenly tyrant got pushed back? it was april 30 and now it's like december 24 lol. i get that things happen in publishing and stuff, im just kind of curious as to what it was.

Ok I thought the whole book would revolve around Zetian plotting her revenge and finally having this moment happening by the end. Well guess I'm very wrong since it already happened lmao. Might be a bit too fast for me to really enjoy it as much as I should, because I'm not that familiar with her yet. Like I get where she's coming through but you know how waiting make everything more valuable? I've been spoiled too soon.

I guess it's gonna be more about the aftermath and the consequences of one's actions then. I feel like she has the potential to be a very morally dark grey protagonist so I'm really curious of how everything's gonna turn out now.

I kinda love the Pacific Rim vibes but make it rotten patriarchy vibes though. Apparently the society, instead of making sure to have drift compatible pairs, went "what if we sacrificed the women instead? Uh uh" and everyone agreed. I can't wait to see Zetian crush down the patriarchy. Also I'm pretty sure they already said a well balanced pair is possible and there are already a few existing. So what if they made that as their whole new system? Mind you seeing how it started there's a whole lot of work to accomplish. It's understandable why the revenge plot is so short after all. She's got a lot of work to do.

Final thoughts on iron widow are that it is very fun to watch someone break stuff for a couple hundred pages but that it was pretty overhyped as anything beyond that. If it wasn't marketed as this groundbreaking feminist ThingTM I would have liked it more I think bcos politically it's a bit incoherent besides being very firm that girl power Is Good and sacrificing girls to be car batteries for mechs is Bad. Boo the patriarchy. Did Wu Zetian effectively utilize girl power when she slaughtered innocent people in her big dragon suit? etc
