Umm how do you think Tuva is/looks like? 🥺 I have my own OC /post of him but I'm considering altering how I characterise him a bit. I think he's a fairly proud but also chill nation who's faced a lot of adversity in his lifetime but obviously has his own struggles as a part of Russia (one of the poorest republics, went through a period of isolation under Russia) and is close to Mongolia:0 sorry I kind of went off xjsjdjsj

Sorry to take so long with your ask haha but I think all of your hcs are on the right line! and like the other siberian indigeneous republics, probably dislikes russia and would like to give him a good walloping if the chance comes- but he does like music a lot!

Hello everyone... I need help so. I don't know about the Hetalia fandom, or anything about Hetalia. I understand at least that it's about countries, etc. So... I wanted to see posts about my country (Mongolia), so I wrote Mongolia in Tumblr, and found many posts that I liked! But, I also found posts about Mongolian history, and identity,etc, by this person (irithnova).... I thought they provided an innacurate view of Mongolian history.... I also saw a drawing by peonycats, and the person that is Chinese says "I hate minorities"to the people who are Mongolian and Tibet (which are minorities). We don't want bad relations with China, and we hope Chinese people don't hate us 🙏 But this person (tianshisdead) explained to me what I did wrong, but I'm afraid it's is a little difficult to understand everything. (Though, I don't want to harass or hurt anyone, I apologize if I offended peonycats or anyone else, I didn't want to hurt anyone...) I admit, I don't know much about the history of different countries, but I always try to ask questions, read, and learn, all the time! Can anyone explain what is Hetalia about?, is it about culture; or history, comedy,etc? Is it nothing offensive or insulting (xenophobic, racist,etc)? I hope this message by tianshidead can explain what I did wrong, what I misunderstood,etc. Thank you, to anyone that explains. And I'm sorry for any mistakes, I only try to use a little of Google Translate so I can write English by myself. 1, 2 and 9 : Manchuria

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering?

Honestly, probably story role. Back then I was focusing on the Qing and early republic so naturally I needed a Manchuria character… He was very very different back then, a lot more… generic Qing harem drama character? He was basically just Manchu Official Man with Glasses. He’s really changed a lot, in large part thanks to the input of @irithnova who can be considered Mr Manchuria’s father I guess in the role of helping develop him LOL (Qing era Manchuria should bow at her feet for the research put into his personality and actions at that point). I feel like he’s basically unrecognizable now, but in a good way! He’s become his own person, as well as someone who better reflects history.

2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?

FLKJDHGLKDFH THIS IS EMBARRASSING… Okay. So. Um. Initially I wanted to ship him with China and I developed him based on that… As he changed over the years, other characters’ relationships with the Qing, with Jurchens and Manchu, and with the general region began to shape him as well, Mongolia being a big one, and then Japan and Korea as well as other northerners and subjects/conquered territories of Qing like Tibet and Oroqen. Well, I still do ship him with China, but in the very beginning he felt more like someone there fully to support and supplement China’s character and story, while nowadays he’s very much his own funny little guy.

9. Are they based off of you, in some way?

Surprisingly no! I don’t really tend to relate to my characters at all… or to characters in general tbh, at least not really. Well, I guess it would depend on what ‘based off of’ means… I will say I do, in the case of characters personifying cultures I’m connected to, use my knowledge of cultural customs and influences based on personal experience to develop the character, however I don’t really live Manchu culture as I’ve always been closer to the Hui side of my family. I do use the experiences and culture of that side of the family for him, but it’s less directly using them to inform his personality and more using the knowledge to mold him within the bounds of what it means to be Manchu, with added history. If I had to say, his personality comes from a mix of history supplemented with the cultural knowledge! Anyways, none of my characters are very based off of me, it’s not necessarily that I don’t want them to be, but I find it difficult to connect on a personal level to fictional characters so it’s basically a hopeless endeavour…

5) Social headcanons

I think socially? Mongolia prefers people who aren't like gloomy mega downers and still choose to get up everyday and continue despite it all~ Sure, he has a very negative opinion on the current state of affairs, but that doesnt stop him from living his life and doing what he wants 💪💪 I think he gets along with people who have their own passion for life, bc that kind of excitement is always nice to be around!

6) Psychological headcanons

Hmm unfortunately i dont have many thoughts abt his psychological profiles, but I think he is someone tries to live with as few regrets as possible! def the type to try and repay a debt to not feel indebted to someone~

hi anon, sorry for the late reply lol i’m terrible at checking my inbox.

honestly, i don’t feel like there’s much more for me to add to the discussion that other people haven’t put more eloquently and in a lot more detail. i don’t want to beat a dead horse, so i’ll just refer you to @itstokkii’s post, @irithnova’s post, and @tianshiisdead’s post because they do a great job of breaking down why that hc is in pretty poor taste (to put it mildly).

honestly i just find this whole debacle funny and sad because i’m just like wtf is going on. western paternalism be going crazy. it gave me a good laugh but at the same time i’m in disbelief that this line of western propagandistic thinking is still around in this community to this day.

ultimately, i think that hetalia fans (especially the white/western fans) need to take a step back and re-examine their implicit biases. like yes these are just silly animanga characters, sure—but the preferential treatment and historical whitewashing afforded to certain characters (read: the us, the uk, russia, etc etc etc) speak to a greater willingness on the fandom’s part to just hand wave away all of their problematic aspects (again, putting this mildly) in favor of woobifying them.

the bottom line is this: if we want to engage with the historical/political side of hetalia, especially regarding issues as politically charged as this, we have to be equally prepared to have difficult conversations about (western) imperialism and interventionism and the damage these countries wrought on their victims. do i think the op or the person who sent that ask had malicious intentions? no. but i do think it’s indicative of cultural ignorance and how we should be wary of the ways in which that ignorance can (even unintentionally) lead to erroneous, offensive thinking.

Three ships:

1) Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan (oc) THEY’RE NOW FORMALLY ALLIED IRL. MARRIED OKAY!! Their history is interesting, at first it was full of fight for dominance over territory in the steppe yadda yadda and after independence from Soviet Union they were kinda rivals. Well that’s the states, my hc of their personifications is that they’re chill and comfortable with e/o and are close as brothers. They play hard when they have to play, fight hard when they have to fight.

2) Russia/Golden Horde: ….they’re consuming me. Help. Russia is older but Golden Horde matured sooner while Ivan got his growth stunted (hc) so at some point they looked like they had 10+ years age gap. I don’t ship them personally during the Dark Horde time period tho but in an AU setting where Horde lives and now Ivan is 200 cm tall 130 kg towering bear over his tiny 178 cm self and can break his neck by sitting on his face thanks. (Switch)

3) Mongolia/Kazakhstan: I still ship them k lol. Also they canonically have a kid together.

First ship: I’ve been into animanga since I learned to read so this is kinda tricky to remember tbh. Must’ve been canon pairings there. But my first ever otp is Toshio/Seishin from Shiki… you might not know them ah lol.
