Fic I'm working on has Iris being older by a couple months at most. She's basically the older twin, and this will not cease to amuse me.

everyone shut up I need to recontextualize ART and iris' relationship through a sibling lens. im aware that 1) ART experiences time differently than Iris and therefore any sort of age difference means nothing to them and 2) there is a decent chance they were specifically raised together because they're the same age. BUT ALSO thats not as fun to me. The options here are that 1) ART is the older sibling, which I feel like is the dynamic they would automatically fall into given that. You know. It's Like That (something about always giving unsolicited advice and pestering you to self-improve while also being deeply protective of you is older sibling coded) and also experiences time on a much slower scale than Iris so technically, to ART, it is actually older or at the very least has experienced more age. However. Option 2 is that ART is a younger sibling which is just funny. Imagine meeting Iris and she mentions her younger sibling and you're like awww do you have a picture of them? and she's like yeah, this is us when it turned 4!! and shows you a picture of herself as a kid in front of a massive research transport. what do you even say to that. Secret option 3 is that ART is a middle child (iris is the oldest and Holism is the youngest) which is objectively the funniest and therefore is the one I've incorporated into my belief system

Perihelion has a few minutes to wonder what it's gotten itself into while it watches the SecUnit board. For all practical purposes, the construct looks like it's a five-year-old with guns in its arms and a backpack slung over a thin shoulder. How no one stopped it anywhere in the transit ring is a mystery, but then again, this is the Rim. Children traveling alone is probably normal.

It actually kind of reminds the transport of Iris, skinned knees and all. "You got lucky," it tells the kid.

Who promptly slouches in a chair for too large for it and sulks. Peri has seen enough children to know what sulking looks like, and says as much. SecUnit swiftly disabuses the ship of that notion with a data packet of what happens to SecUnits, regardless of age, if they sulk.

ART has never imagined that such terrible things could happen to children -- human or otherwise -- and decides that it will happily burn down the Rim for SecUnit's sake. It even knows where it would like to start.

Unfortunately, before then, it hears the Unit say, "We can watch cartoons."

The transport adjusts its priorities on the fly. SecUnit is going to need the most fluffy blanket that Peri can manufacture. Then, they will watch cartoons together because Peri knows this is important; Iris taught it all about cartoons. And then, it will make the Corporation Rim pay.
