Iris

I watched her burst into flames right before by eyes.

The girl on fire, destined to be burned alive. Only she didn���t die, at least not then. She died exactly a week later.

I remember the day very clearly, even in my mutt riddled brain she always shone brighter than all those contorted memories.

It all happened very fast, she stood there in the centre of city hall just as we did for that first time, 24 years ago at the tribute parade. She stood, 5 five feet across our very good president Snow, poised to let her single arrow fly.  When the arrow found itself buried in our grey-haired president’s heart, she let up a final, sad smile in my direction before  swallowing the violet pill.

That’s Nightlock Peeta, you’d be dead in a minute.

“Come on, Iris. We’ll be late if you don’t hurry up,” I yell across the bedroom.

“Coming daddy,” Iris chirps

My little girl pops her head into the room and quirks her eyes up to say she’s ready. I take her tiny hand and leave the house, the breeze winds through my hair. Spring’s in the air one could say, I watch the sky streak bright colours of orange and red across the horizon.

“What are you doing,” she giggles looking up at me with her head in my lap.

“Practicing Knots,” I say with a mock serious tone.

“Really? What have you practiced till now?” She quirks her eyebrows.

“Oh just the hitch and the square knot,”I laugh out, knowing all too well that she’s aware of my ruse to play with her hair.

Still, she doesn’t say anything, instead buries her nose deeper into my lap.

I watch her fall asleep within minutes and breath out a sigh of contentment.

I watch the jelly like color of the sun, melt into it’s surroundings painting stripes of yellow, red and pink across the sky.

“I didn't think you'd want to miss it,” I say slowly rousing her up.

“Thanks,” she smiles at me, all sugar and honey.

“Daddy? What’s wrong?” A sweet voice asks.

“Sorry honey, just thinking.”

“We’re here, daddy.

“That we are.”

I take in the meadow and finally lay my eyes upon her headstone.

“Daddy, I saw something. Be back in a minute.”

“Sure, sweetheart.”

A minute later her golden hair comes into view, she sways with the cool breeze, her hands holding tightly onto something.

“Here daddy, I brought these for her.”

I look into her baby blues nd will my eyes not to well into tears.

I slowly clutch the stems of the white dandelions and ever so slowly place them over her resting place.

The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.

“I miss you, Katniss,” I whisper, feeling Iris’s small hand in mine, grounding me to the present.

“Daddy, will she be happy now?” Iris asks softly, eyes wide with innocence.

I nod, choking back the lump in my throat. “Yes, sweetheart. She’ll be very happy.”

We stand there in silence, the wind rustling through the leaves, carrying with it a sense of quiet. A baby canary dances through the sky, singing a folly tune before landing on Iris' shoulder, The sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the meadow. I can almost feel Katniss’s presence beside us, her spirit woven into the very fabric of the air.

“Come on, Iris. Let’s go home,” I say, squeezing her hand gently.

Nile Freeman (The Old Guard). like does it surprise anyone she’s at the top of this list? idk. she is so brilliant because her flaws are also her strengths, and that’s how the world works but that’s really exemplified in her i feel. my beloved main character 💖 i miss her and i love that I’ve been writing her more with these prompt fills!

2. Leia Organa (Star Wars). what can i say. firmly believe she’s a candidate for character of all time. it bothers me when people make it so that women Have To Be Tough but she’s so, so tough and she has such an incredibly shit hand and she’s a princess and she’s constantly making wisecracks and she was kind of who i wanted to be as a kid when i wasn’t pretending to be Darth Vader

3. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games). also should not be a surprise if you’ve seen my blog recently but i do love her because she is just so. she is so many things but she is just so clueless. and I really do love that because if there’s one thing I remember about being 16-17 it’s how unbelievably self centered and clueless i was despite thinking otherwise.

4. Daisy Jones (Daisy Jones and the Six). there’s a lot of put together people on this list and she’s definitely not that and neither am i. she feels music so very deeply that it’s part of her like i do and she also has absolute dogshit taste in men like i do. she’s selfish she’s constantly trying to feel something she’s deeply artistic and deeply flawed and imo she’s probably one of the most interesting characters on this list

5. Jackie (Love Lies Bleeding). she is the toxic bisexual representation we all need and deserve!!! she makes things right she gets revenge on the people that have wronged the woman she loves she laughs and smiles she’s a hitchhiker motivated deeply by her dream and she’s a fucking body builder. she nearly had it all until she started murdering people and honestly good for her anyway

6. Iris West (The Flash). she’s just so cool, she’s a journalist! she’s a superhero! she’s kind and caring and her family’s moral compass and her family’s motivator and honestly her family’s rock and I will absolutely never get over how dirty the CW did her and Candice Patton. completely reprehensible shit.

7. Joan Watson (Elementary). there’s constantly talk about the best Sherlock Holmes adaptation blah blah etc etc but she is hands down the best Watson i think we will ever get. she nails the indulgent supportive exasperation of the character perfectly and the energy and individuality she brings to a character that is so infamous is something really special. i also genuinely love the questions she asks idk i think she just asks really very good questions and that’s exactly what you need in a Watson!

8. Idgie Threadgoode (Fried Green Tomatoes). i am deeply deeply in love with this book. i recently reread it and idk what was going on with me mentally before where i wasn’t obsessed with it but i am now and she has moved into my brain full time. she is so passionate and so fearless and feels everything so deeply and makes the life she wants for herself despite enormous societal obstacles and she is so very very loved.

9. Elle Woods (Legally Blonde). what can i even say that hasn’t been said probably more eloquently. one of the things i love about her most is that she’s a perfect example of how there’s no such thing as useless knowledge. everything you know is valuable and worthwhile and useful and everything you love and care about will someday come to help you when you need it. i’ve thought about becoming a lawyer for a while now but if i actually go through with it it’s down to her!!!

10. Louise Banks (Arrival). obviously Arrival is one of my favorite movies but the reason she’s on this list is because she makes the absolutely insane and incredibly brave choice that she wouldn’t change anything. she knows the future she knows what will happen she knows the devastation awaiting her and she makes the conscious decision not to try and avoid or fight that, but to welcome that. and that is one of the most metal fucking things i’ve ever seen.

Mimi's Mini Plot Bunnies!

With the recent hype and rise of The Hunger Games Ocs being posted, I wanted to introduce mine!

Meet Rosette Clearhill!

She is from District 8, and her parents died not long after she was born which meant the only person who could raise her was her grandmother Iris.

Iris was a wise woman, she knew secret ways in and out of the district. So she taught Rose how to hunt and how to survive if anything happened to her and or their district. She raised Rose to be kind, brave, and strong, and to always stand up for others no matter what it could cost in return.

Rose was very close to her grandmother, but just a week before the 74th Hunger Games, Iris ended up having a heart attack and passing away. Her body was unable to withstand any more of the Capital's demands of long working hours.

Rose was left all by herself, she always had kept to herself beside her grandmother, but with her now gone...Rose didn't know what to do.

Iris always wanted and wished for her grandmother to open up more, make friends...and hopefully find someone to love and take care of her granddaughter.

But then Rose's name was called in the 74th Hunger Games.

Rose couldn't help but feel vulnerable and lost during this time. However, she ends up meeting two people who become the most important people in Rose's life.

Rose ends up being in a poly relationship with Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen throughout her story.

During Catching Fire events, Rose would end up volunteering as tribute in place of Cecelia. Knowing that she was a mother of three children and wanted to do anything she could to protect Peeta and Katniss in the games since they were the only loved ones Rose had left.
