#i have nothing to say about this it just makes me weep#the last several days i've been listening to sanam marvi's version of pareshan ho kay and trying to decipher his words#i dont know that i am capable#but it moves my heart#and for some reason makes me think of jack gilbert - “i lie in the dark wondering if this quiet in me now is a beginning or an end...”#ive also seen the last line translated as “at times the pathos of separation suits me” which i might like better#allama iqbal#to remember

Just here to say that yes there’s a lot different about the AGGGTM show but A) every adaptation is like that and we gotta learn to live with it so long as the core is the same and B) this was objectively a great adaptation and Emma Myers and Zain Iqbal are flipping phenomenal

DAY 6027
Jalsa, Mumbai Aug 18, 2024 Sun 11:04 pm
Birthday - EF - Jaishree Sharad Monday, 19 August .. to the enterprising hard working Jaishree .. and our wishes for greater glory .. ❤️❤️🌺
Many felt that the Sunday meets have not been projected on the Blog .. but I feel your love is all that needs to be recorded - in my heart !
Nothing more ..
But then , when I have ever not followed the Ef suggestions and corrections and wants .. some could not happen, yes .. the show for KALKI .. and the clothes for charity .. but it will and shall .. soon ..
and some from the work environ ..
.. and whenever there is a need and a time to spend by the self , it has always been with the thoughts of Babuji ..
As I read the Tulsidas Ramayan each day , I find little jottings in pencil on the verses and words and expressions , by him .. they are not entirely legible, but they must have reason to be there , and the reason could well be his notes from the Ramayan when he must have been doing the translation of the Geeta into the language and graph of this epic , the Jan Geeta ..
This is only a thought .. it could have been more .. and in time I shall find out what these markings were and why ..
So the day ends with Babuji and his letters to the many that linked with him and his ritual of responding to each one in his own hand writing .. and the questions asked and the responses given on his body of work, giving reason for the purpose of each poem or the prose or the thesis that he wrote and also the translations of great works of his time and others .. Shakespeare, WB Yeats et al, including some of the works of prominent Russian Poets ..
So I muse and search .. and find great philosophy and words of immense meaning ..
" my poetry is the poetry of those that have struggled with life .. my readers know me thus .. those who do not know me thus , they do not know me ..
when did I ever say that I have come to give the ultimate truth of life .. if I can give just one truth of life i would consider myself blessed .."
" what can I give to society ..?? 😁 today , what is most prominent is the desire to give , without having , without achieving .. when you have, if you achieve, if you become something , if you be something .. then the problem of giving shall never be there .."
" who are the poets that have impressed me ? .. let my readers see, tell and prove .. if there is not a need to do all this research, then read my poetry, if you can, and derive pleasure from it, .. to be impressed by someone depends on your own kshmta क्षमता,.. your own capacity .. to have read heard someone and not be impressed , then there must be a reason of it - either a shortcoming in them, or a shortcoming in me ..
I am not too conversant with modern American Poetry, my knowledge of it has been almost negligible ..
My birthday happens on the 27th of November .. but how is that such a special day that it should be celebrated ..
the poet Iqbal has said :
'many a poet is born after his death '
I remember .. because I do 🙏

In the West, poetry is written primarily for the afficionado, often other poets. In recent years, I can think of very few poets whose work is on everyone's lips. Perhaps Maya Angelou comes close, maybe Dr. Seuss.
But in Indian culture the situation is different. Tagore's poems - not only his songs, but the words themselves - are known to even the illiterate. Poetry is mass culture.
So it was with Faiz, and before him, Iqbal. Lazard writes:
When he read at a musha'ira, in which poets contended in recitations, fifty thousand people and more gathered to listen, and to participate. People who barely have an education know Faiz's poetry not only because of the songs using his lyrics but also the poems themselves, without musical accompaniment.
But poetry, in these cultures, as in Palestine, has a wide reach, and becomes an instrument of power. Faiz, Iqbal, and Darwish knew it. Like Tagore, they were not merely poets - they sought to transform society.
In an earlier version of the present introduction, written immediately after Faiz's death, Lazard was more personal, more elegiac:
Once when we were saying good-bye after our time in Honolulu I asked for his address. He told me I really didn't need it. A letter would reach him if I simply sent it to Faiz, Pakistan.
The reason - he had helped found the postal workers union. They were his people. They knew where to find him anytime.
So this is where Faiz came from when we met in Honolulu in the winter of 1979.
(Annual of Urdu Studies, v. 5, 1985 p. 103-110)

AGGGTM TV: Episode 6 Opinions
!!!SPOILERS OF COURSE!!!
Opinions: Guys that was not my Ravi in the last episode I'm sorry. Him leaving Little Kilton so soon after the case was "closed"??? Zain Iqbal was literally ripped kicking and screaming from the pages of the book but this writing was not. Ravi would never leave Pip with a case unsolved or doubts in her mind.
Also there was so little actual investigating, it felt like everything was handed to Pip in a way or things just clicked for her, I didn't have those "oh my go he killed her", "oh my god he's innocent" shocks that I did when reading the book because I feel like they just weren't well executed. Another thing that annoyed me was Cara just conveniently tracking Pip's location while she was in the cave, like what???
Becca was made out to be genuinely murderous I feel when in the books she was a broken, traumatized girl who felt like she had no choice.
Overall I actually think this was my least favourite episode which pains me to say.
I'll do more of an overview review in a little while once I've digested the whole show fully and maybe watched some edits.

AGGGTM Pinterest fans stop being racist towards Zain Iqbal just because he isn't what you imagined. Contrary to your belief, Ravi isn't a 15 year old Pinterest model - he's 20 years old and looks like a regular guy.
Zain does not look 50 (I actually saw someone say that) and he'll be fine. If you don't like it, then don't watch - it's that fucking simple. Just say you expected a whitewashed version of him and fuck off.

The female doesn't want a rich man or a handsome man or even a poet, she wants a man who understands her eyes if she gets sad, and points to his chest and say : 'Here is your home country.
-Nizar Qabani
One thing I have noticed is that media, some toxic influencers, meme creators, uncles, and yes unfortunately even aunties of our society are trying to push a false narrative that the majority of modern-day girls/women are gold diggers. They are trying to create an image of women that she only cares for money and nothing else.
This is utterly nonsense. After taking care of her needs, all she needs is genuine love and care.
She needs you to understand her because no one has ever tried to.Pulling her close and putting your arms around her when she is walking in a crowd. She wants you to take her goals and her plans seriously and to believe in her. She wants someone with whom she could share anything without the fear of being judged. She wants someone with whom she can play, someone with whom her inner child comes out. She needs warm hugs on cold nights, some forehead kisses, and caressing when she is feeling down.At the end of the day, all she needs is hope, and that is all you have to provide her.
And trust me boys this is the TRUE masculinity, not what you are being indoctrinated with.
And one thing I want to make clear is that I am not trying to woo and impress anyone here with all my talks/posts. I genuinely want to bring a change. I'd be happy even if 3-4 people change their perspective after reading this.
Would like to end this with a beautiful urdu couplet by Allama Iqbal:
Wajood-E-Zan se Hai Tasweer-E-Kainat mein Rang:
Isi Ke Saaz se hai Zindagi Ka Soz-e-Daroo
(It is the existence of WOMAN that gives the Universe its Colors She is the leading instrument in the grand Orchestra of Life itself)

Dr Iqbal believes that the US action against Pakistan is a form of coercion to prevent Pakistan from strengthening its strategic partnership with China. The incoming Trump administration, he says, might use these restrictions as a bargaining tool to extract concessions from Islamabad.
According to Iqbal, Pakistan’s defense inventory is increasingly leaning toward China, reflecting the depth of their long-term bilateral relations and the trust accumulated along the way. If anything, in Islamabad today, many may interpret the recent US sanctions as a by-product of India's increasing influence in Washington, with the aim of undermining Pakistan's strategic trajectory and regional partnerships.
As Pakistan contends with the fallout from these sanctions, it faces a pivotal decision: to yield to external pressure and curtail its ballistic missile program, or to uphold its strategic priorities and stand its ground.
Meanwhile, public discourse on social media has shifted toward alternative strategies, with many advocating for Islamabad to prioritize the stalled Iran–Pakistan Gas Pipeline project, even if it means defying US-imposed restrictions on dealing with Iran.

The Origins of Nigar in the 1960 novel Hürrem Sultan
“Nazniyaz Kalfa, who was famous in the harem for her toughness as well as her beauty, always showed a smiling face and gave sherbet according to the young girl's pulse.
"My beautiful, my dear," she called her (…) She wanted to secure her own position and future in case one day luck would come to this inexperienced Russian girl.
Rokselan liked Nazniyaz Kalfa, who was mature, experienced and more beautiful than many of the girls in the harem circle, and enjoyed her conversation. But she could not make any sense of the favoritism that was shown to her and what she was talking about. (…)
One day she asked Nazniyaz Kalfa: My dear Kalfa, they were saying everything bad to me just yesterday. Now they almost hold me in high esteem. Even Haşim Ağa has changed. Of course there is a reason for this. I'm going to burst with curiosity, I wonder why?
Treasurer Kalfa answered this question in a closed way:
- If you please His Majesty the Sultan, you will attain endless prestige and happiness.
-Me?
-Yes my flower.
-I'm not a beautiful girl, Kalfa. What will the sultan like about me? You are much more beautiful than me. God created you perfectly.
- These things are not clear. It is not known on whose head the crown of Iqbal will be placed. Maybe Gülbahar Sultan didn't know either.
The woman whom Nazniyaz Kalfa referred to as Gülbahar was the haseki of Sultan Süleyman and the mother of Prince Sultan Mustafa. The Sultan loved and respected her more than his other women. There was no one in the harem who didn't know this.
Hürrem did not find the answer of the treasurer Kalfa satisfactory: - Tell the truth my Kalfa, there is something under your tongue.
- Swear not to tell anyone.
- I swear I won't tell anyone.
- Listen, then, this respect and care shown to you is based on the command and desire of our master.
- I understand.
- What?
- His Majesty the Sultan saw that I was being oppressed and had mercy, didn't he?
- No, honey.
- And why?
Nazniyaz understood that they were about to get into a very dangerous subject and kept silent. The earth had ears. If Gülbahar Hatun heard what they were talking about, her position would be shaken and perhaps she would be expelled from the palace, never to return. There was also a recent example of this. One of the Kalfas who liked beautiful girls said to one of the Georgian beauties in the harem: "You are worthy of our sultan." She was almost taken out to the countryside because of that.
Fortunately, Valide Sultan intervened and resolved the issue.
Gülbahar was very meticulous and jealous in these matters. Nazniyaz could not resist Hürrem's requests and insistence. She leaned into her ear and spilled the beans:
- Ayol, I thought you were a smart girl, can't you understand yet? Our Lord has a tendency towards you.
Rokselan jumped up.
- Oh... Please, tell me a little!
- Nope, it's too much, honey. Don't ask anything anymore and don't tell anyone anything. Then things will get bad.”
(The quotes from the 1960 novel Hürrem Sultan)
The original Turkish pages:
This Hürrem is more naive and this Nigar is gayer (everyone is slightly gayer in this book, there is even a brief cameo from an actually acknowledged-to-be-gay Kalfa in the above quote), but this is still very much the origins of Nigar Kalfa.

Razia Iqbal: What would you say to those people who argue that Shakespeare is the ultimate dead white male in the context of those arguments about the canon?
James Shapiro: After our conversation, I’m going to take the number one train downtown to the public theatre, where I’m working with a mostly African American cast on a production of Hamlet set in the American South in 2021. And that company, those actors, that director Kenny Leon, a major Broadway director, see Shakespeare as a way of expressing the cultural issues that matter most to Black people in America today.
So if you want to get rid of Shakespeare as a dead white man, you know, you’re not only have to argue with conservative politicians who fetishize Shakespeare, but with practicing artists who find his work a tremendous vehicle for expressing issues that might not otherwise be initially expressed.
