A factory-sealed first-generation iPhone sells for more than $63,000 at an auction
iPhones tend to hold their value better than most phones, but this latest example is one for the history books. A factory-sealed first-generation Apple iPhone from 2007 sold at auction over the weekend for $63,356. The device in question is an 8GB Apple iPhone and had an MSRP of $599 in June 2007. The auction ran from February 2 with a starting bid of $2,500, which topped $60,000 over the…

okay so this is an idea I’ve seen brought up maybe once before, but maybe Jason (before the Bats find out who he is) accidentally lets something slip that makes them realize that he’s literally, like, a child (seventeen, sixteen, I’m not sure how old he is at that point exactly, but either works)
and Bruce “adoption addiction” Wayne promptly looks at this obviously traumatized teenager and decides that he should adopt Red Hood.
I just think Jason would be so confused (maybe a little pissed too)
I’ve touched on that a little bit in What you’re longing for (you claim to abhor)!
I think this trope is wayyy underrated. Like, Jason is still so, so young. Basically a child. Even if he died at sixteen and then spent two years with the league (even if we’re counting the time he spent dead as aging). He’s barely even legal when he returns to Gotham. Or if we’re being generous let’s say he’s nineteen.
Doesn’t matter, he’s barely out of his teens (maybe he’s still IN his teens if you bend the timeline of your fic a little) and he’s experienced horrors that would have most people become utterly unable to function. But Jason? That boy takes his trauma and channels it into anger. Which, not exactly healthy, but well.
Anyway, getting off topic:
YES. Jason is still basically a kid when he debuts as the Red Hood, and you know what else he is? A good boy who’s not gonna touch any alcohol until he’s officially 21.
“But why would he do that? He grew up in Crime Alley! Ain’t nobody got time for age limitations!”
Hear me out! Let’s assume he grew up in a household where his father, Willis Todd, drank quite a lot on the regular in addition to his mom’s addiction. Jason experienced the aftermath of this (perhaps domestic violence?) every time his dad returned from a job/jail and he grew to loathe any and all substances, including alcohol. Knowing Jason and his convictions it wouldn’t be too far fetched to assume he’d never touch a single drop of alcohol at all.
So that’s one way he could slip up while taking to his goons (and having the bats overhear) or even straight up talking to one of them where maybe Dick banters a bit and goes “Hey, perhaps you should chill out a bit. Have a drink maybe” and Jason just instinctively goes “Fuck you Dickwing, I’m seventeen/eighteen/nineteen! I’m not allowed to drink!”
And Dick just— bluescreens. And immediately goes to tell Bruce, obviously.
OR
The Bats assume Jason is this old guy (Bruce’s or Drathstroke’s age maybe) and consequently they keep alluding to things that happened way before Jason was ever even born and at first he’s so? Confused??? But eventually it just gets really annoying and eventually he just— snaps.
“How the fuck would I know which Nokia gen hit the market that year? I was born in fuckin’ XXXX, I’m an iPhone kid!”
“Stop referencing the Cold War dipshit, I’m fucking seventeen! I’m glad I remember my own damn birthday!”
“I don’t know, I was like— two back then.”
Bruce, obviously, would take .1 seconds to realize:
“Omg. That’s- that’s a whole child. That’s a whole damn TRAUMATIZED child, killing people and sawing off heads. Omg someone must have hurt him so bad. Don’t worry tho, son, Batman’s got you. You won’t have to hurt anybody ever again. We’re here for you. Would you like the room next to Tim’s or Dick’s?”
Meanwhile Jason: “what the fuck”

how to connect to wi-fi services in pokemon gen 4 (DPPT/HGSS)
it's still possible to access the wi-fi services of the gen 4 games after the official shutdown of nintendo's wii/ds wi-fi in 2013 due to fan efforts by changing your DNS settings in-game - this is called the DNS exploit. this is popularly used in gen 5 which really has no complications, but in gen 4 it's a bit more complicated because the games are So old that they can't connect to the internet through modern routers due to fancy modern internet encryption. the connection either needs to have no password, or have WEP encryption, which most modern routers do not support. i had some people asking me how to do this so here's a post lol
first, it should be noted i use the pkmnclassic service, and i think you should too. this gives you access to old mystery gifts as well as pretty much every other wi-fi feature. their website also allows you to view pokemon currently uploaded to either gen 4 or 5's GTS through your browser. once you get your wi-fi set up properly, connecting to the internet will be easy, but that setup comes first. below i am going to list all the options i am currently aware of and able to explain
option 1 - phone hotspot (easy/convenient, doesn't work for every type of phone)
some phone hotspots are able to use old WEP type encryption, or be password-less. if you have access to a phone hotspot, it's worth taking off the password if it lets you and trying to connect to the gen 4 wi-fi with it before trying any other method, since if it works it's super convenient, just turn on the hotspot any time you want to do something online in gen 4 and turn it back off when you're done. unfortunately this depends on the type of phone and what OS its on and i don't have a list of what phones or OSes are compatible, so good luck lol. mine personally is not, and i have a fully updated iphone
option 2 - guest wi-fi (a little less convenient but still easy if you have access to router settings)
in the same vein as phone hotspots, guest wi-fi hotspots can also work, and this is what i personally use myself. the catch is you have to have access to your router settings, so if you're a young person using a parents' router without access to those or some other situation like that, you may have to ask for assistance every time you want to turn this on/off, which could be a dealbreaker for some unfortunately. but if you're able to do that, simply make your guest wi-fi password-less and turn it on when you want to connect to gen 4 wi-fi and turn it back off when you're done. since these settings pages are so different per internet provider, i can't really give a guide on how to do that here, though mine through verizon fios is pretty straightforward. some guest wi-fi may not work for this but i think most should
Tumblr media
option 3 - use an old router that supports WEP encryption (probably inaccessible for most, but only has to be set up once and then you're done)
i've done this in the past but i had my dad's help with the process, i cannot walk you through buying an old router lol. but yes if you purchase an old router and set that up you can have password protected gen 4 wi-fi permanently
option 4 - save backup + emulation through melonds (works pretty much 100% of the time if you have a hacked 3DS and some sort of PC)
MelonDS is a really great DS emulator that you can find here for windows/linux/mac: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/downloads.php
the basic idea is that you can backup your save file/game with a hacked 3DS using Checkpoint or TWLSaveTool (outside the scope of this guide but this is easy to do and you can walk through the steps here) and then run it through melonds, which can bypass all this WEP/encryption hell for you and simply connect to the internet. of course this is not very convenient if you have to constantly back up your saves to do wi-fi stuff but it's better than nothing if you have no other option.
unfortunately setting up the wi-fi can be a pain, and you also need DS BIOS files to run everything properly, which i cannot provide myself for legal reasons but they uh... aren't that hard to find lol, and you can back them up from an actual DS if you have access to the necessary tools for that.
if you use a windows PC, feel free to use my version of melonds which already has all the wifi shit set up, you'll just need to provide your own bios files under emu settings (it's a bit old but it works great for this purpose): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DQotaqFuBwXz1KYdQWiwxghtn3faLgj-/view?usp=sharing
edit: just found out right after posting this that the most recent version of melonds might work out the box without having to do any particular wi-fi setup? so feel free to try it instead of my version if you like
Tumblr media
if you are using linux/mac or don't want to use my version, you'll have to use the melonDS FAQ/google to figure it out, i'm sorry!
by the way yes, this means even if you don't have a gen 4 cart and solely play over emulator, you can trade/battle/etc with people who are playing on DS - they connect to the same servers!
okay and NOW once you have one of those options set up, you can actually connect to wi-fi in game by doing the following:
(these screencaps are from my capture card, i am doing this on an actual DS, but you can also do this with melonds if you're using that option)
Tumblr media
step 1: navigate to "NINTENDO WFC SETTINGS" in the menu where you press continue on your save file, in-game. in gen 4 you need to do it here and not in your DS settings.
Tumblr media
step 2: tap "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" and pick any of the three connections here to start the set-up. if you already have some here, i'd click "erase settings" underneath to start from scratch.
Tumblr media
step 3: search for an access point and pick your desired access point from the list that comes up, and put in a password if needed (this assumes you have set up your wifi properly at this point)
Tumblr media
step 4: it will attempt a connection to the internet, and may or may not throw an error. regardless, the error doesn't really matter, you can just hit "OK" whether it's successful or not
Tumblr media
step 5: go back into your new connection (the box that previously said "None" should now say "Ready") and scroll down until you see the option "Auto-obtain DNS" - change this to "No"
Tumblr media
step 6: change the primary DNS to pkmnclassic's DNS, which is 178.62.43.212 - in layman's terms this will essentially let you connect to their servers instead of nintendo's, which are obviously down. as for the secondary DNS, either leave it at 0.0.0.0 or change it to the same DNS as the primary
Tumblr media
step 7: now would be a good time for a connection test. tap "Test Connection" in the top right. there should be a successful connection. assuming there is a successful connection, congrats! save your settings and enter your game as normal. you'll need to go to the basement of any pokemon center and pick up your pal pad, then try entering the wi-fi club (middle NPC at the counter) to test it in-game and get your friend code.
if there isn't, try a few more times or get closer to your access point - sometimes it's not you, the service can just occasionally be spotty. if you keep getting errors, you can use this site to look up what the error code might mean. if you still can't solve the issue, you may have to try a different method of connection as listed above.
sorry i couldn't be more in depth but frankly i'm not an expert on this stuff either, i'm just doing my best. there are a couple other options for doing this, like taking the password off your modern home wi-fi, or bridging your connection to an old laptop/computer, but the first is particularly dangerous so i didn't want to include it in the list and the second is completely out of my league, i just know people have done it before
good luck feel free to ask questions but no promises i'll have answers. if you need troubleshooting help i'd recommend pkmnclassic's discord over me, they have channels for that stuff (yes i hate troubleshooting stuff moving to discord and not forums as much as the rest of you but it can't be helped lol)

I did math on David Tennant's hands (so you don't have to)
EDITED WITH MORE ACCURATE PHONE INFORMATION AND A DIFFERENT CONCLUSION.
I swear all I wanted to know was what kind of phone Crowley has in season 1.
See, I have an iPhone, and one of my gigs shares a building with an Apple Store. I was taking a screenshot of his contact picture for Aziraphale, and noticed that the camera on the back of his phone is laid out horizontal. Most iPhones aren't! So, I fell into this rabbit hole: what phone does Anthony J. Crowley have?
Tumblr media
(The bit where you can see the cameras, immediately before the cool heart-in-flames picture he has for Aziraphale's contact, is basically impossible to screenshot; the phone moves very fast and reflects the environment. But his contact photo for his angel is so neat and I love it ❤️‍🔥)
I figured out very quickly the only iPhone with that camera layout is the iPhone SE series, but there have been only three generations: 2016, 2020, and 2023. Season 1 of Good Omens was released in 2019. The iPhone SE first generation was also Apple's "budget" phone. It just didn't make sense to me that Crowley would have an old budget phone, but the new SE wasn't commercially available so it also didn't make sense to me that the prop department could have given him a new phone.
The main visual differences between gen 1 and gen 2 are threefold: gen 1 didn't come in black; gen 2 has slightly more beveling; and they are different sizes. The first two visual differences are basically meaningless, because it's trivial for a props department to turn a white phone black and the beveling difference only is obvious in comparison. So I had to figure out what size Crowley's phone was.
We see Crowley's phone in s1e4 and s1e5, but the only thing in its environment we can really measure to get an accurate read on its size is... Well. David Tennant.
Tumblr media
More specifically, we get a fairly good shot of the phone in his hands, held level with the screen, and thumb easily available to use as a reference.
Tumblr media
But if anyone has done David Tennant Hand Math before, they weren't on page 1 of Google and therefore may as well not exist. So I took up this quest myself.
So first, I had to find a picture of David Tennant holding something of known dimensions. I am, first and foremost, a Doctor Who nerd. There's only one answer to that.
Tumblr media
Another Doctor Who nerd on the internet went and figured out 10th Doctor's sonic screwdriver was about 160 mm and the head of the sonic from tip to the joint with the middle section was about 40 mm.
I then got out my actual goddamn fabric tape and measured this man's fingers on my computer screen. After converting the measurements back to scale, first to second knuckle on his middle finger was 54.55 mm.
Then to figure out how long his thumb is, I needed a photo of his hands. This one is courtesy of the GO Reference Server:
Tumblr media
His thumb came out to being approximately 68mm long. (My thumb came out to 55mm long. Not relevant, I just got curious while I was doing all this measuring.)
Finally, the data necessary to the main event: the goddamn phone.
Tumblr media
Using the thumb as a reference, the phone came out to 136mm in length.
The iPhone SE Gen 1 was 123.8 mm long; the Gen 2 was 138.4 mm long.
Given that I rounded quite a bit during my calculations to keep things at 2 digits or less, I'm very comfortable saying: Crowley had an iPhone SE (second generation) during the events of Good Omens Season 1, a phone that would not become commercially available until April 2020.
I don't know how the props people got their hands a phone that wouldn't be released for a full year and change after filming, but they did that for us. It's a character note that practically nobody noticed, for a prop that gets barely a full minute of screentime. They could easily have used an iPhone XR or iPhone XS Max, which were the newest iPhones actually on the market at that time and which people would have recognized when the episode aired, but they knew Crowley would have the newest iPhone before anybody else had the newest iPhone and by Jove, he did.
After I posted this in Discord, @giveintomay pointed out that the iPhone SE second generation used the same build as the iPhones 7 and 8, which came out in 2016 and 2017 respectively. So, he most likely had an iPhone 8, which would have been the latest generation while filming (as generation 10 became commercially available over the summer and fall).

Fuck it, iterator generation headcanons
Gen 1:
Older iterators, obviously. The first few came online at around the same time, and some future iterators think the first ones should be classified as their own generation
Bulkier, inefficient, and require a lot of upkeep
A lot of older facilities are dedicated to producing new parts and educating new scientists for future iterators
Looks to the Moon is mid-late gen 1, being more self-sufficient than her earliest counterparts, but still very clunky compared to newer iterators.
Sliver of Straw is very late gen 1
Gen 2:
More efficient than gen 1, but still very large.
Less focused on expanding the iterator project, more focused on the actual problem at hand. Older iterators were working on the Great Problem, of course, but their citizens weren’t as obsessed with it
Fully self-sufficient, with functioning immune systems and failsafes built in. Whether these systems are good or not is a different story
Seven Red Suns is mid gen 2
No Significant Harassment and Grey Wind are late gen 2
Gen 3/4:
Gen 3 are the sleeker, most efficient models. They’re like the iPhone to gen 2’s Nokia.
Which is to say: they’re faster and have more processing power, but they’re also a lot more fragile
Very efficient. They consume the least amount of water of all of the generations, which is why Pebbles could survive while sharing water with Moon. He actually uses less water than her if he’s running normally
Five Pebbles is late gen 3
Unparalleled Innocence is so late in gen 3, there are debates about whether to call their batch “gen 4” or not
The would-be gen 4 are iterators who were activated close to the mass ascension, within a few years of it
Some gen 4 iterators prefer to be called a gen 4, while some see it as pointless to distinguish between 3 and 4 because there are no more iterators being born
Gen 4 and 3 are the same model, but the fact that the ancients left so soon after they came online creates a separation in some opinions

Roomies, Chapter 1: My Best Friend's Brother
Tumblr media
Mash-up of edited public domain photos.
My Best Friend's Brother - Next - Masterpost - [ AO3 ]
WC: 3098 - Rated: T - CW: references of parental homophobia Written for @intrualityweek 2024
Patton and Roman have known each other forever. They were each other’s best friend, favorite neighbor, closest classmates all through school. They were even each other’s first crush. Roman’s crush had faded with time. Patton’s had not. Oh, yeah, and Roman’s weird twin brother Remus was there, too. Now Roman and Patton are all set to be roommates their freshman year of college and everything’s going to be great. Right?
Faded with sun and age, the little green You Are Here flag was hard to find but when it finally popped out on the giant campus map, Patton grinned. He was on the right path. One more left turn and then up the trail between the fountain and a big field and he'd be at his new home for the next year. Nodding, he took one more deep breath and hitched up on the thinning straps of his duffel bag and marched on.
He'd made it.
The line outside the Resident Advisor office spilled out down the stairs of Carrefour Hall. Patton—and the rhythmic chu-chunk of his cracked suitcase wheels—slowed as he approached it. He hesitated, eyeing the line of students waiting for their dorm room keycodes as his backpack and duffle bag straps dug into his shoulders.
With a little grin, Patton shook his head and bypassed the line, walking right through the side door. Patting his pocket, he didn’t need to take out the dorm assignment letter he’d had memorized since June of their senior year.
Carrefour Hall, Room 604 Dormmate: Reyes, Roman
After a much shorter wait for the elevator, Patton squeezed inside with his bags, bouncing on his toes as the elevator emptied a bit more at each floor until it was just him and a bored-looking RA-a senior, maybe?-when the elevator doors stuttered open on the sixth floor.
Patton spilled out, barely noticing his bag bonk the backs of his own heels. Eyes on the door labels, all the troubles of the day, all the troubles of the entire flippin’ summer melted away. A heady mix of relief and excitement and nervousness propelled him forward until he practically skipped down the hall.
600… 601… 602… 603…
“Ready for college, Roomie?” Patton laughed after tapping quietly on the open door of room 604. “Or would it be Rome-y? ‘Cause we’re Rome-mates?” He danced his shoulders back and forth, smile only faltering when Roman turned around with his forehead crinkled in confusion. Behind him were the dorm’s standard twin-sized frames, shoved together and made up to form one full-size bed.
Sitting on the edge of that bed, folding one of Roman’s old tee shirts was a guy from their old high school. Floppy dark hair, longer than Patton remembered, and square black glasses. Was Landon his name?
“Pat!” Patton melted into Roman's arms when he pulled him into one of his patented—ha, Pattoned—crushing hugs. “It’s so good to see you! But…”  Roman pulled back, shaking his head and shooting a confused look at the other guy. “What—what are you doing here, Pat? I don’t…”
“Whaddya mean?” Patton tried to laugh but his throat had grown tight and it came out a little broken sounding. But Roman and the other guyLlewellyn?—were too busy looking at each other to notice. “We’re… we’re rooming together, Ro.”
Roman’s eyes widened when he finally seemed to register Patton’s bags.
“The Housing Office didn’t call you?” Roman asked. “I—I texted you but when you never replied, I…” He looked down at his bare feet and the other guy stood and moved next to him. “I thought maybe you were just, y’know… a little mad and needed some space.”
Mad? Patton forced his smile to stay bright.
“New number, who ‘dis,” Patton said, waggling an older gen iPhone. The late afternoon sun glinted against the cracks in the screen. “Just got it yesterday. Um… can you put your number in…” Roman nodded and tapped at the device. “Sorry, all my contacts were on the old sim card.”
“No sorries needed, Pat! I’d be lost without my phone. I…” He nodded when his own phone buzzed with the message he sent and passed Patton back the device.
Patton couldn’t not chuckle when he read the contact name Roman had created, Really Obviously Muscular And Nice 👑.
“But, I don’t understand…” He looked up at Roman as he slid his phone back in his pocket. “Why would I be mad at you?”
“I… I, well, my parents got the Housing Office to switch our rooms. They said they'd call you," he said, shaking his head. The other guy raised his eyebrows at him and Roman shook himself, presenting him with a bowed head. "Um, do you remember Logan?”
The man with big square glasses nodded and offered his hand. “Logan Sanders… We had Bio together sophomore year.”
“Patton Hart,” he nodded, shaking his hand and ignoring the sinking feeling in his belly. “I—I remember. You talked back to Mr. Saxby when he said Watson and Crick discovered the double helix.”
Logan dropped his hand and glanced at Roman before staring down at the floor, jaw clenched.
“You were right! He was a teacher—he shouldn't've ignore Rosalind Franklin!” Patton added quickly, turning his head to smile at him. “You got in trouble for that, didn’t you?”
He rubbed his arm and nodded once. “And I’d do it again.”
Roman curled a muscular arm over Logan shoulders and grinned proudly. “Logan tutored me in summer school so I could start this semester without having to make anything up and, well…” Uncharacteristically quiet, Roman looked to Logan, a question in his eyes.
Logan cleared his throat, eyes glossy. “We started dating and…” He let out a slow breath and nodded again. “And my parents didn’t like that and, well…” The sinking sensation turned into a cold rock in the pit of Patton’s stomach. “They… they threw me out.”
Nodding, Patton shifted the pack still slung on his shoulder. Pins and needles, like after you foot fell asleep, crawled down Patton's limbs and he reminded himself to breathe. “Oh, Logan, I’m so sorry. That’s horrible.”
“Exactly,” Roman said, pulling Logan a little closer. “Logan’s been staying at my house since that all happened. My parents have kinda taken him in."
“Your family has been more than generous,” Logan murmured, eyes on his feet. “And very gracious.”
“Hey, after surviving eighteen years of Remus running around the house, you’re nothing.”
Patton swallowed. The last time he’d seen Remus had been right after graduation. He’d run up to him and Ro and unzipped his gown to reveal his brand new tattoo—and that he’d been wearing Speedos and nothing else underneath during the ceremony. He looked carefully at Logan. “Has he been… okay with you?”
Remus had never directly bothered him—Patton had no doubt Roman would’ve put a stop to it in a heartbeat if he’d so much as said one mean word. But as early as second grade, Remus had been suspended three times for fighting. He was tough and fought dirty, brutal enough to make even Patton’s biggest bullies cry.
Patton was still grateful Roman really never left them alone together.
Logan tilted his head, brow furrowed. “He’s been Remus but, yes… Once I informed him I did not find his references to ‘Little Orphan Annie’ as humorous as he did, we’ve been getting along acceptably well.”
“You know if that ever changes,” Roman began in a soft voice, lips close to Logan’s ear. Patton looked away and tried harder not to listen. The room was just so small.
“If that ever changes, you’ll be the first to know,” Logan replied just as quietly. “Remus will need you to drive him to the emergency room.”
Roman chuckled, low and quiet and rich. Not at all like his best friend’s typical laugh. Patton risked a glance up.
Roman was smiling down at Logan, eyes bright and cheeks a gentle pink even through his summer tan. He absolutely glowed. Suddenly seeming to remember Patton’s presence, Roman faced him, fingers still laced together with Logan’s. They’d painted their nails matching colors, every other nail Roman’s favorite red and a deep blue that matched Logan’s shirt.
“Right, I was explaining.” Roman’s voice dragged his attention away from their interlocked hands and Patton nodded. “Logan’s parents withdrew the dorm deposit they’d paid and he lost his room. I convinced my parents to switch me to a “single” so he’d have a place to live this year.”
Patton looked around the room. They’d already moved the dorm-issue twin beds side-by-side, with a big red quilt stretched over them. Two dressers were tucked into the corner by one closet, leaving just enough space to set the desks face-to-face on the other side of the room. Patton imagined them studying together, holding hands over the desk, stealing little glances between readings. Quizzing each other like he and Roman used to when he’d study at his place after school.
Roman suddenly stepped closer and Patton looked up at him, pushing on another smile. “Have no fear, my dear Pattington Bear.” He booped Patton’s nose and, for a moment, everything was as it should be. “The Housing Office assigned you a room in the new dorms. It’s over by the Art Building. We saw them—they’re really nice and…”
“You probably want to get settled in,” Logan added, taking out a folded slip of paper from his pocket. “Dormitory orientations start in an hour, then dinner, and an evening program on ‘Health and Safety.’”
“Ha,” Patton forced a laugh, craning his neck to peek at the printout. His eyes widened when he saw the number of activities and information sessions they’d be expected to attend over the next few days. The list was a lot longer than the one he’d seen at the start of summer. “Sounds like camp!”
“I sincerely hope your summer camp did not distribute prophylactics on the first night,” Logan frowned and put away the list. “Well,” he looked up at Roman  who winked back, blushing. “We have a bit more to tackle before Orientation.”
“Right,” Patton nodded. “Of course. Maybe we can meet up for dinner at the dining hall?” he asked, hoping neither caught his stomach grumble.
“Well, um…” Roman drew Logan a little closer. “Lo and I were going to drive into town for dinner together and…”
“Oh! Oh, yes, right… Celebrate with a date.” The yawning pit in his stomach turned into an a ball of ice. “Of course,” he said again. “Let me, um, let me get out of your hair, then and, uh…”
“Here, Pat, I’ll help you.” He lifted Logan’s hand to his lips and pressed a gentle kiss against each knuckle before releasing his grip and following Patton into the hall. “Jeez, Pat!” Roman exclaimed, eyes widening when he took in Patton’s overstuffed duffel bag, another backpack, and his beat up old wheelie suitcase in the hall. “Did you bring enough?”
“Oh, you know me,” he laughed, his voice strained as he tightened the straps on the larger backpack pulling down his shoulders. “It’s just a little of everything.” Roman hefted the duffel bag, his hand scraping over a crumpled tagboard label.
“Ha! Speaking of camp, I think you left your bunk tags on from last summer,” he laughed, turning it over and reading the bunk information. His eyes widened. “I can’t believe you went back!”
“You went to summer camp before college?” Logan asked, adjusting his glasses and peering at him through narrowed eyes from the doorway.
Patton shrugged, a flush crawling up the back of his neck. “Yeah, I was a counselor. Good money for a summer’s worth of work and no expenses… You’re living where you work, so…”
“Ah, Pat, I figured you’d take the summer off!” Roman clapped his shoulder then helped him hook his other backpack over the handle of the wheelie bag. “You worked your ass off to get a full ride here. Your parents were so proud at graduation, I bet they’d send you anything you’d need.”
“Mm-hm,” Patton nodded and didn’t look away fast enough to miss the stiff look Logan gave him.
“Oh, mi amor,” Roman murmured, stepping back into their room and cupping his boyfriend’s cheek. Patton ducked his head and tilted back the suitcase to drag it back to the elevators, making just enough noise to cover their whispers. “I’ll be back before you know it, love,” he promised in his regular voice before stepping back into the hall with Patton.
“You know, Ro… I’m being selfish,” he said quietly to Roman when he joined him with the duffel bag. “You should stay here and help Logan get settled. I just need to head down to the RA’s office and get my new room and keycode.” Patton smiled brightly up at his oldest friend.
“Are—” Roman’s hand twitched on the duffel strap, already shifting his weight to set it down. “Are you sure?”
Patton looked up at him. Hope had brightened his already brilliant green eyes, and his usual crooked smile now bloomed over his face. “Yeah, Ro, of course I’m sure. I got it all here, didn’t I?” He nodded and looped the duffel bag over one shoulder.  “Besides, you know me…” He grinned brightly and mimed flexing his muscles. “I’m stronger than I look. Logan needs you,” he murmured.
“Pat, you’re the best friend a guy could ask for!” Roman pulled him into a long hug. Breath caught in his throat, Patton squeezed back, the familiar scent of strawberry shampoo and a new floral cologne pleasantly tickled his nose. “I’m not just saying that, either,” Roman murmured, bent over his head. “Thank you for being so understanding. Logan doesn’t have anyone right now. His whole family disowned him when he came out. They wouldn’t even let him take his computer or his clothes or anything.”
Burning eyes squeezed shut, Patton nodded silently against his shoulder, throat too tight to even try to speak. The weight of everything he carried in his backpack cut into his shoulders and he hugged Roman a little tighter.
“He just really needs me right now,” Roman whispered. “I’m the one who encouraged him to come out. It wouldn’t be right to just abandon him now.”
“Of course,” Patton managed when Roman pulled back and smiled down at him.
“You’re a good friend, Pat. The best.” He gave his shoulders one more squeeze before turning back to his room with a little wave. Just before he closed the door, he poked his head back into the hallway. “Hey, we should meet up at the dining hall… uh, maybe sometime tomorrow? Or maybe Monday?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “Yeah, Ro, that sounds great! You have my new number!” He called just as the door closed. Alone again, Patton pushed up the corners of his mouth until it felt something like a smile and walked back down the hall toward the elevators.
~
The line for the RA’s office wrapped around the hallway. He watched the time tick down on his phone, the wait stretching even as his battery slowly died. Still, he cheered when he reached the head of the line and grinned at the harried volunteer flipping through a clipboard of dog eared papers.
“A313,” she said and handed him his new door code in a tiny envelope.
“Does it say who my roommate will be?” Patton bit his lip. He and Roman had spent the last four months of school planning on rooming together, sketching plans and making up stories about who else they might meet in the dorms. Patton hadn’t even considered not sharing a room with him. The thought of living with a total stranger sent a cold child down his spine.
The volunteer scanned the sheet but shrugged. “Sorry, doesn’t say on my copy, just that he’s a senior. It would’ve been on the copy mailed to your permanent address.”
Nodding, Patton caught his bag as it began to slip off his shoulder. She smiled, briefly, and glanced up at the line behind him. “Here—” she said, plucking a parking sticker from a thick envelope. “You’ll need to switch out your pass when you move your car to the other lot.”
“Yeah,” Patton nodded again and tucked the decal into his pocket along with the old one. Don’t need a pass if you don’t have a car. He gathered up his bags. “Um, thank you!” he added, remembering to smile. The volunteer had already moved on to the student waiting behind him, crumpled check in-hand.
The Art Dorm was on the opposite side of the quad, tucked into a corner behind Greek Row. A raucous party had already started at the largest fraternity house and Patton hitched his bag a little higher. He’d dodged a bullet there, at least.
He skittered around a pocket of laughing students making their way back across the quad toward the dining hall, then another as he waited for the elevator. One of them shoved a thick Orientation folder into the recycling bin. He waited until they’d passed and fished it out again. He'd missed the session, but at least he could catch up with the handouts. And if he hurried, he could still make the tail end of dinner and figure out what else he'd missed later. Who knew, maybe his new roomie would be nice and they could get to know each other a little before bed.
The elevator doors opened and Green Day played at too a high a volume poured into the tiny elevator. Patton dragged his bags out and into the hall. The music came from the only open door on the floor, about half-way down from the elevator. He re-read his dorm assignment and checked each door. His footsteps slowed with each tread, his bags growing steadily heavier.
301, 303, 305…
Patton stopped just outside room 313. A mostly empty suitcase sat open on the bed nearest the hallway and a stack of clothes still on hangers were draped haphazardly over the back of a chair. Teetering stacks of books and art supplies covered one desk and music—now Queen—blared from a flashing bluetooth speaker by the window.
In the other corner of the room, a very tall and very familiar guy with neon green hair and a cropped tank top was inside. Back to the door, he danced as he shoved an armful of clothes into a dresser drawer. A shiny tattoo, still red around the edges, covered his left shoulder and the safety pins adorning his ripped jeans swayed with his movements.
Maybe it wasn’t him. Maybe… Patton held his breath and knocked. Loudly.
He spun around, tapping his wrist, and the music cut out. A too-broad grin slashed across his face, topped with a thick mustache. Green eyes two shades darker than Roman’s stared back at him, wide and wild. Remus dropped his clothes and opened his arms wide.
“Roomie!”

Question: Do ghosts in the TGAMM's Ghost Realm know what memes are and, if so, what memes do you think they use?
We know that, according to the s1 finale, ghosts tend to get things (flip phones, Blockbuster, etc.) from the human realm when they 'die', although in at least two instances we see ghosts with smart phones (maybe they have the gen 1 version of the iPhone that still has Flappy Bird on it? *shrugs*)
Anyway, do you think the whole 'only get it when it dies' thing applies to memes as well?
Because I'm having a lot of fun imagining Scratch or one of the Jeoffs hanging out with Molly, Ollie, Libby, etc. when they're on their phone and - in an attempt to make them laugh - just breaking out an absolutely ANCIENT meme (not fully realizing just how old it is), leading to the kids just not knowing how to react at all, lol

Leaving the jailbreak community
Around this time last year (in March 2022) I had updated my main iPhone to iOS 15.1, hoping to make a jailbreak for it. I fully expected to be gone from the scene after iOS 15.1, but knew full well that with all the mitigations of iOS 15.0 - 15.1 alone, it may already have been out of my means to make a jailbreak, so there was a risk.
By that time, I had already cut down the tweaks I used to just 2 -- iPad dock for iPhone, and enabling battery percentage for notched iPhones.
Fast forward to June, and iOS 16 had natively introduced battery percentage for iPhones that have the notch -- cutting down the number of tweaks I’d want (compared to stock) from 2 to 1. But no matter, I was still on iOS 15.1, and still hoping to make a jailbreak, since I had a working terminal at that point.
However, the months progressed -- June became July, and iOS 16 betas were coming. Thanks to a donation from someone, I got an M1 Macbook Air to accelerate jailbreak development, and had gotten libhooker with tweaks running a couple weeks later, including on A12 and A13. The jailbreak at this point was in an extremely buggy, albeit functional state and hope was up.
Then the jailbreak community happened -- without a PAC / PPL bypass at the time, libhooker would be forced to sign code pages -- which was only really doable with the libhooker API (unless a ton of effort was spent on potential workarounds). But tweak developers largely refused to consider using the libhooker API for batching hooks, and I was quickly getting frustrated. And a lot of others from the community weren’t helping either -- I had gotten harassed by many jailbreak users on twitter and reddit over this, especially since it had recently come to light that Cheyote was broken on A15. And of course, with it being August 2022, it was unlikely any donations at this point would even get an A15 device on early iOS 15.
At the same time, I had other interests popping up with porting Windows to various chromebooks -- my port to AMD Ryzen was going well enough to be a daily driver, and I had just gotten audio working on the Pixel 2 chromebook (which I previously abandoned in 2017 but then picked up in 2022 with my new experience).
So I snapped -- I realized how much better the community is on the chromebook side and that I simply didn’t need to put up with the jailbreak community. And I put Cheyote on the backburner to focus on developing Windows drivers for chromebooks.
Then August became September, November, December. Progress was being made on the chromebook scene, but every time I considered returning to doing iOS jailbreaking, I shuddered from remembering the harassment.
In December 2022, I returned the money donated towards the macbook to the person who donated it. Since I realized Cheyote was well beyond schedule, even if it ever came to happen. Meanwhile in the chromebook scene, I was getting Intel 12th gen audio working.
Then the months passed, and in March 2023 I realized it had been a full year. And I was still on iOS 15.1 for seemingly no reason other than to tease myself and miss out on the battery percentage and widgets -- so I updated my main iPhone to iOS 16.3.1 (and now iOS 16.4), knowing that there was no turning back and that I would no longer be jailbroken on my main device for a long time, if ever.
That brings us to today. Even though I’ve been in denial about it for several months now, it clearly has made me feel a lot better to stay away from the jailbreak community, and I have found new interests that make me happier. So it’s time to say farewell. It’s been a good run overall since I started developing tweaks for iOS 5 (in 2012) and jailbreaks since iOS 11 (in 2017) -- a 10 year run isn’t too bad after all.
===========================================================
For those who are still waiting on Cheyote, unfortunately I wouldn’t hold my breath anymore. I’ve clearly moved on months ago, even though it’s taken me until now to fully realize it. I appreciate those who have supported me in the past and thank you for your support on my tweaks, Electra, Chimera, Odyssey and Taurine. If you’re still running one of the jailbreaks I’ve made -- you’re a real one. libhooker and my repos will still be up and running for those on iOS 11 to iOS 14, and Sileo has been maintained by Amy for over a year now. I expect Odyssey and Taurine won’t need any more updates considering they’ve been running stable for a long time, and libhooker 1.6.9 will continue to be hosted on my repo since it is the last version to be fully validated up to iOS 14.8.1 (on checkm8) and up to iOS 14.3 (on Chimera -> Taurine).
If you were interested in what I’m up to these days, feel free to grab almost any Intel chromebook (or one of the 3 supported Ryzen 3000 chromebooks) from the last decade and put Windows on it! (Except the original Pixel 1 [no trackpad / touch screen] or Samsung Chromebook 3 -- that one is garbage, sorry if you have it)

H.B. Charles Jr is recommending this website for word studies. Multiple Bible versions available. I haven't personally checked it out just yet (but I trust Pastor Charles' judgment).
