Hi Celta, how sure are we that Meghan graduated with an International Relations degree? The way she dresses in this faux royal tour of Nigeria shows she lacks cultural awareness. She's so inappropriately dressed, showing open shoulders, peekaboo tummy, and slits up to there. Plus, she's wearing block colours whereas the Nigerian women are multi-colourfully bright in their traditional clothing; our late Queen would have fit right in with them with her bright colours and floral dresses!

UK royal ladies, when they visit other countries, always wear clothing that respect the culture of those countries. Just look at how Princess Catherine dresses when they visited Pakistan or Malaysia or even non-conservative countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

I guess this is the difference between class and crass. Meghan just doesn't seem to care to present herself appropriately. How can you be a royal like this? Thank God she's no longer one.

I saw a short clip of video when they were offered food on a plate by a little girl (who was part of the welcoming party I think) and Meghan didn't even acknowledge the girl or the food; she simply turned away while still holding Harry's hand, and pulling him away with her. How rude! She just does not have manners. Again, did she really have an International Relations degree? If I were Northwestern University, I would be so embarrassed to see my alumni behaving this way.

I do not know if Meghan a) graduated, and b) what her degree was. I have heard so many conflicting stories that I now need solid proof (eg an academic transcript) before I believe anything about her university education. If she did graduate with that degree, then I think we can all agree that she learnt nothing from the course.

I think saying that Meghan lacks cultural awareness is very kind of you. I agree, I just would have phrased it as 'Meghan does not care about her host country and its customs/culture/food and has no interest in learning about them'. Your way is much nicer than mine. :)

Meghan clothing and behaviour was revolting on that tour. It was clearly a trip that was all about her and how much flesh she could flash, and not an iota about Nigeria. As you said, other people on visits (royals and diplomats etc) manage to dress appropriately and behave politely, but that is obviously too much effort for Meghan.

At least the only person she embarrassed this time was herself, because, as you said, she is no longer a working royal.

Jason Om and Catherine Alcorn to host NSW's Honour Awards

ABC journalist Jason Om and cabaret superstar Catherine Alcorn have been named as the hosts of this year’s Honour Awards, celebrating dedication and achievement within the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW.

“I’m flattered and excited to be called into action again,” the Walkley-winning reporter with the ABC’s 730 program said.

“Hosting last year was a blast, and I always have a fun time at the Awards, so I couldn’t say no. It’s a nice feeling to be welcomed back.”

 Om said the Honour Awards provides the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW an opportunity to come together in the face of increasing hostility from wider society.

“I think this year has been tough for our community, we all felt it, so events like the Honour Awards are a chance for us to look back and reflect but also to pull together and find joy in what we have managed to achieve despite the odds,” Om said.

“Most of all it’s a celebration of who we are, and of those in our community who have made a difference.”

Headlining the awards is showbiz extraordinaire Catherine Alcorn.

A renowned entertainer, starring in shows including The Divine Miss Bette, Ladies Who Lunch, and The Summer of Judy, she will soon grace the Sydney Fringe Festival stage alongside iOTA and Verushka Darling in Bangers & Mash at the Emerald Room.   

“As always, I am so excited to be performing at the Honour Awards and to be part of this fabulous celebration of diversity and community,” Alcorn said.

Also on the line-up is DJ Kate Monroe, and Sydney drag star Charisma Belle, who will be hosting the Red Carpet.

The pair will also be joined a host of presenters comprising leading lights from within the community.

ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill expressed his thanks to all the performers and artists taking part in the 2024 Honour Awards. 

“We are so grateful for the support of the many artists and performers that light up Honour each year, and this year’s line-up is full of fabulous and talented ACON friends and allies,” Parkhill said.

“Thank you to Jason, Catherine, Kate and Charisma and all the other entertainers for bringing so much joy, pizazz and flair to this year’s Honour Awards.

“Honour is all about celebrating our communities and raising much-needed funds for vital health initiatives to improve LGBTQ health. I look forward to see you at the 2024 Honour Awards.”

First held in 2007, the Honour Awards celebrate outstanding service and achievements within the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW. It’s also a fundraising event with a charity auction for ACON, NSW’s leading HIV and LGBTQ health organisation.

Over 400 guests will descend at Doltone House Hyde Park in Sydney on Wednesday 18 September to recognise the efforts of over 30 finalists across 10 categories.

Old Fav Resources SellSouls

A couple of age old resources were my original inspirations for GigsList. I used to post some of their gigs on the original GigsList yahoo group. Since then my web tech geekdom has continued and I never stop learning. 

As the way of some older successful ideas go, a certain famous casting resource got sold a few times. The last time in 2013 to a company called RZ Capital, with offices in Brooklyn, New York and Mexico. Yes that’s right… Mexico! 

For readers not in the USA.  I asked a roadie friend from Los Angeles if a/any company with offices in Mexico is safe to do business with. I didn’t mention any company or business or person’s name. I can’t repeat my roadie friend’s response, due to dramatic language. Suffice to say it wasn’t rave reviews.  More on Mexico later in this piece.

The other shock I got was when I applied for a job in Australia with a certain famous casting resource  New business development. I still have a lot of high level contacts in Australia. It wasn’t that I didn’t get the job with a certain famous casting resource, that’s their loss. The shock was I got a bat response from a third party non-show-biz job site. OMFG! Sorry to God! Isn’t a certain famous casting resource supposed to be a recruiting site?

If you’ve been an avid reader of my scribbles for the past couple of years, you know I have a beef with bats. I also have a beef with arts and showbiz jobs outsourced to non arts and show biz. It seems that even major PR companies don’t know about bats. From what I’ve seen of recent publicity stunts, such as fake paparazzi car chases. How memorably embarrassing was that for the PR firm that recently signed them/her up? 

Bats work with algorithms to keep human posts and websites  down in search rankings. Your posts and websites. Backstage.com  using third party non showbiz recruiters and bats help keeps your search rankings down. It also separates and dilutes creative industries and economies. It might not look that way on your screen. But that’s only on your screen to keep you sedated. So you don’t know about or look for the bats. My fav allegory for it is squirrels. Searching for squirrel vids for your cat, then play one or two squirrel vids. Next day every second and third vid in your streams is squirrels. Sometimes also on platforms you didn’t play the squirrel vids on. 

The bat problem’s been around for quite a few years. But the more recent years it’s getting ultra nasty. Eating away at your’s and my incomes and human creative and production industries’ survival. a certain famous casting resource was bastion of old school arts and showbiz tradition to rely on. Now??? It’s gone the way of Nat Sherman cigarettes trying to look like American Spirits. It still sells, but… it doesn’t taste of the same old school traditional quality …

Back to Mexico. I tracked down the address of RZ Capital in Mexico on Googgle street view. It was an old broken door in a back alley. That so doesn’t make sense if a certain famous casting resource has swanky offices in Brooklyn and RZ on Madison Avenue New York. The staff in their swanky Brooklyn office look like nice people in their office photos. The old door in a back alley really doesn’t make sense. Especially in Mexico, where it’s a lot cheaper than New York or Brooklyn to live and do business. The Mexico office should be very swanky, yes? Or at least a swanky house or luxury apartment building. Nope, the broken old door in a back alley doesn’t make sense one iota. 

I tried looking up a certain famous casting resource partner site. But it’s ownership also seems to be different businesses owned by other businesses.  

So what gives? Now it gets even more creepy and controversial. In my web searches another RZ Capital kept popping up. Fosun RZ Capital, a Chinese investment group in China. Chinese gov kind of owns all Chinese companies in China. Basically they set up shell companies in other countries to buy companies in other countries. And thus hide the identity of the true owners who other countries might not get along with. 

Seriously, sites like that have some explaining to do!

Birthright oughtn't to be a criterion let alone the sole one for Head of State of a 21st Century Britain!

This has absolutely nothing at all to do with envy or any form of an impassioned disrespect for one's own country. Since in fact, it is unquestionably and clearly markedly a state of mind that's wholly contrary, to what sycophants literally like yourself are risibly rather dimwittedly thinking and personally enjoying; crucially the term sycophant. For quite irrefutably as any person who's unquestionably clearly distinctively not intellectually challenged most evidently distinctly can see, quite obsequiously bowing to and really ludicrously addressing Charles Windsor essentially as Sire or Your Majesty, while undoubtedly actually instinctively, according the very type, of subservient behaviour to the rest of his quite distinctively incestuously inbred family; such a person, simply does actually need to undeniably, get a grip on reality.

Obviously so, because these people are no more special educationally or talent wise than distinctively the average everyday Briton, and frankly that's not saying much really! Moreover they're only where they are: undeniably, essentially and obviously significantly, due effectively not to any discernibly remarkable, distinctively outstanding or noticeable abilities simply on their individual or collective parts but just solely, and outrightly because of the family they were generally born into. And while possibly a basically quite average intelligent person generally could just perhaps understand why the ordinary fawning Britons, along with their similarly overseas global and equally genocidal kin in places like Terra nullius Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA and fittingly in tandem with, these remnants of their like-minded, subservient sort that actually still infect Zimbabwe and South Africa clearly with their racist presence could dimwittedly defer in the past - psychologically and physically - to those that very significantly, and also collectively evidently carried far bigger sticks than they themselves simply had and literally had no compunction whatsoever, in rather mercilessly utilizing them to rather bullyingly get, what they were literally after.

Like getting these plebeian serfs to do, and carry on doing so, whatever these barbaric bullies: undoubtedly perceived as more knowledgeable, and essentially gallant by these very distinctively subservient, and undeniably also, crucially obliging serfs - obviously simply insisted upon. And, although clearly their techniques may have very self-servingly changed over the ensuing centuries the clearly naturally belligerent, and self-entitled philosophy of these quite undeniably egregiously malevolent and toxically verminous scum, hasn’t changed an iota amongst any of them and most irrefutably and unequivocally they're discernibly, exactly the same now in the 21st Century, as they've actually very basically unquestionably been!

Author's Remarks: Pompous virtue signalling is one thing but actual participatory combat is really a different matter. So when did the last British "royal" die on the battlefield in the defence of their country. It was on the 22 August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth when Richard III led a mounted cavalry against Henry Tudor in an attempt to kill him, however it was Richard III who died when Henry Tudor's supporters surrounded and killed him. And in contemporary times, right up to the present British Royals and specifically their reigning or directly in line monarchs stay as far away from the battlefield and front line as it is humanly possible to do so. But nevertheless don't spare themselves the brave military uniforms and the risible surfeit of distinguished medals out of their toy boxes that they quite indulgent and fastidiously love to wear on these ceremonial occasions like Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

By while reluctant in actually defending their country these royals have no problem whatsoever in supporting war and famine; nor for that matter any difficulty in supportively, liberally arming dictators, while essentially paying only lip service to freedom and democracy and discernibly with meritocracy nowhere on their wish list!

Understandably therefore why they very readily supported the Iraq War when in essence literally millions died and quite similarly too millions more were quite drastically turned into both internal and external refugees; some of whom are so desperate that they even try to seek refuge in Britain, the country that quite barbarically with the USA and for their oil caused their calamity in the very first place. And a measure of the egregious and odiously malevolent manner in which they're still callously regarded by the British monarchy and the UK's sick establishment, is that distinctively one of the last things that Liz Windsor really did before she kicked the bucket was to honour War Criminal Tony Blair for his criminal exploits in Iraq!

Over 1 million British servicemen died in combat during World Wars 1and 2, and the figure is higher if those who died from the other causes of those wars are factored in. Similarly Empire military combatants lost significantly more in wars that had nothing to do with them; but war is profitable for the plethora of actually white led European countries among whom Britain is quite clearly a principal protagonist.

But what distinctively beats me, and I personally have no mental animosity against the UK being a monarchy - I voted against Brexit and accepted the result, narrow as it was, with equanimity - and would do the same if a majority of UK citizens, serfs and plebeians simply voted to retain the monarchy. But you cannot continue with this quite pathetic drivel of yours that "it's your history and is what every patriotic Britain wants." If so, you wouldn't have a problem as you will undoubtedly win! But like the quite fearful that he might be azoospermiac husband and purported father that all too well knows that his very adulterous wife has routinely cheated on him and in all probability he didn't, nor possibly could have sired any of the children she produced in their marriage, but is literally too shit scared to both have himself and these brats DNA tested through a fear of having his nagging suspicions corroborated and his marriage substantiated for the farce it actually is, does nothing, while continuing to carry on living in his very pathetic dream world compounded by his entrenched state of denial relative to the reality that significantly encompasses himself but which he doggedly refuses to acknowledge, let alone do something constructive about it. A quandary that is quite relative really to the British monarchy.

Essentially either you very self-evidently inured sycophantic morons think that the Britain monarchy is thoroughly indispensable and will stand the test of time, or you know it isn't; and like someone who thinks he or she has contracted AIDS but is too petrified to go to the Sexual Health Clinic to ascertain what the real truth is; that's YOU! Likewise a genuine referendum on the British monarchy can either deem them as the best thing since sliced bread or else declare them to be as useless and as beneficial to contraception as a condom with holes in it!

One Hot Year after Another

Globally, 2020 was the hottest year on record, effectively tying 2016, the previous record. Overall, Earth’s average temperature has risen more than 2 degrees Fahrenheit since the 1880s.

Temperatures are increasing due to human activities, specifically emissions of greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide and methane. 

Heat and the energy it carries are what drive our planet: winds, weather, droughts, floods, and more are expressions of heat. The right amount of heat is even one of the things that makes life on Earth possible. But too much heat is changing the way our planet’s systems act.

My World’s on Fire

Higher temperatures drive longer, more intense fire seasons. As rain and snowfall patterns change, some regions are getting drier and more vulnerable to damage, setting the stage for more fires.

2020 saw several record-breaking fires, both in Australia in the beginning of the year, and in the western U.S. through northern summer and fall. Smoke from fires in both regions reached so high into the atmosphere that it formed clouds and continues to travel around the globe today.

In the Siberian Arctic, unusually high temperatures helped drive at least 19 fires in the region. More than half of them were burning peat soil -- decomposed organic materials -- that stores a lot of carbon. Peat fires release vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, potentially leading to even more warming.

The Water’s Getting Warm

It wasn’t just fire seasons setting records. 2020 had more named tropical storms in the Atlantic and more storms making landfall in the U.S. than any hurricane season on record.

Hurricanes rely on warm ocean water as fuel, and this year, the Atlantic provided. 30 named storms weren’t the only things that made this year’s hurricane season notable.

Storms like Eta, Delta, and Iota quickly changed from smaller, weaker tropical storms into more destructive hurricanes. This rapid intensification is complicated, but it’s likely that warmer, more humid weather -- a result of climate change -- helps drive it.

The Ice Is Getting Thin

Add enough heat, and even the biggest chunk of ice will melt. That’s true whether we’re talking about the ice cubes in your glass or the vast sheets of ice at our planet’s poles. Right now, the Arctic region is warming about three times faster than the rest of our planet, which has some major effects both locally and globally.

This year, Arctic sea ice hit a near-record low. Sea ice is actually made of frozen ocean water, and it grows and thaws with the seasons, typically reaching an annual minimum extent in September.

Warmer ocean water led to more ice melting this year, and 2020’s annual minimum extent continued a long trend of shrinking Arctic sea ice extent.

A Long Trend

We study Earth and how it’s changing from the ground, the sky, and space. Using data from sensors all around the planet, we calculate the global average temperature, working with our partners at NOAA.

Many other organizations also track global temperature using their own instruments and methods, and they all match remarkably well. The last seven years were the hottest seven years on record. Earth is getting warmer.

We also study the effects of increasing temperatures, like the melting sea ice and longer fire seasons mentioned above. Additionally, we can study the cause of climate change from space, with a bird’s eye view of increasing carbon in the atmosphere.

The planet is changing because of human activities. We’re working together with other agencies to monitor changes and understand what this means for people in the future.
