Chapter 5

For @crescent-dreams SessKag Fest day 5 prompt: Forest. I’m a day late, so there will be another update later today!

Summary: After a stroke of bad fortune, Kagome’s life is uprooted. She is moved into an unfamiliar community where she expects life will be very different- and much more miserable- than she’d hoped. But luck, as she’s learned, can turn on a dime.

Lady Akamine prowled around her beautiful mountain estate with all the sneaky grace of any house cat, popping up with a twitch of her whiskers and a rolling purr when you least expected it.

If the presence of one Mr. Taisho, with is startling silver hair, flashing gold eyes, and charming moon markings hadn’t set her on edge, then Lady Akamine’s sudden need to be everywhere would have.

“Oh Sesshomaru, I am so grieved that your father and brother couldn’t join you.”

“I know. But business calls.”

“I’m certain it does. But I am equally pleased you were able to sneak away! I’ve long wished for you to meet the other side of my family. The Taishos are old family friends, once married into a distant branch of my vast family forest by way of a long dead cousin on my mother’s side!” She addressed the rest of the room, all gathered around the fire passing the afternoon reading books as rain fell in icy sheets outside. “And we Neko and Inu love to make family bonds that we never break, isn’t that right, dear boy?! Very loyal creatures we are.”

“…hn.”

Sesshomaru was a being of few words, it seemed, a male of solid presence but ephemeral mind.

She’d known men like him before, and they’d always seemed pretentious and boring.

But something about Mr. Taisho made it seem like he possessed a great many thoughts.

“You are an inuyokai then, Mr. Taisho?”

“Hn. Of the Silver Moon clan, Miss Higurashi.”

“You like dogs, Kagome dear?” Lady Akamine asked with a sly grin and glowing eyes, fluttering her fan flirtatiously.

“Oh, uh… I… y-yes of course!”

Lady Akamine giggled, Sesshomaru blinked, and Kagome tried not to burn alive in embarrassment.

She noticed that Mr. Taisho was often sat across from her at dinner, but he usually kept his eyes cast down toward his food, which he ate with a slow, measured grace.

She tried hard to focus on anything else that was happening, but never had a man beguiled her so wholly as Mr. Taisho had by just sitting there.

He was so extraordinarily beautiful it was almost hard to believe she wasn’t hallucinating him.

Forcing her attention back to her bowl of soup, Kagome attempted to take enough bites that it wouldn’t be obvious she was struggling to eat, but then Lady Akamine struck again.

“Tell me again Kagome about your disastrous attempts to secure a husband from those overly stuffy city boys! I do find your stories so engaging!”

Face burning again, Kagome’s jaw dropped at the smug look on the Lady’s face.

She would say she looked like “the cat who got the canary,” but that seemed in poor taste.

“No need to be embarrassed of poor dancing skills, my dear,” she continued, inspecting her sharp, lacquered claws, as the bowls of their soup course were taken from the table. “Some men don’t even like dancing. Isnt that right Sesshomaru, darling?”

He seemed startled when he looked up to meet their hosts eyes, and if Kagome didn’t know better, she’d say his cheeks had warmed a touch.

Then hers warmed even further when his golden gaze met hers.

“Hn.”

Escaping to the library at odd hours of the day became her only respite from what was obviously very determined meddling.

Even her mother and aunt- traitors that they were- had no sympathy at all for Kagome’s distress.

Apparently her need of a husband was bad enough that they were overlooking how obvious Lady Akamine was behaving in hopes that it might actually work.

She understood their anxieties.

Her younger brother’s boarding school tuition had been paid through for the rest of the year, but now that their accounts were cleaned out, Kagome would need to find a rich husband to pay for his schooling going forward.

And she was loathe to do anything that meant her brother’s life would be torn asunder as thoroughly as her own had.

Still, she wished that this retreat to the mountains could have been a real retreat, at least at first, and that husband hunting could have taken the briefest pause so she could think on something, anything else.

Collapsing into a settee, Kagome picked the first book off a nearby pile and opened it, not caring what it was, only needing something to engage her mind.

“Forgive my intrusion.”

A deep voice cut the silent library, and with a gasp, Kagome sat up and turned toward the doorway to see Sesshomaru standing there.

“Oh! Not at all Mr. Taisho. Plenty of room in the library,” ‘and the rest of this gargantuan house,’ she thought a bit bitterly as the object of her distraction strode through.

“I will not be long. Lady Akamine sent me to retrieve something for her. Though one wonders,” he said, cutting her a brief, knowing look, “if it is something she actually needs, or if her motives are ulterior in nature.”

Kagome winced and then dropped her face into her hands, stress and embarrassment swelling up for a moment before they dissolved into regret.

“I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it must be making you.”

“On the contrary Miss Higurashi. I have only worried she may be causing distress to you. I know yokai are sparse in the city.”

“Oh but I’m not from the city Mr. Taisho. I’m from the countryside. I have many yokai and Hanyo friends! I just… didn’t want you to think I’d put her up to anything.”

He smirked, and the way it lit his face up made her heart skip in a very alarming way.

“I have known Lady Akamine since I was a newborn pup. She will say she changed my diapers, but she would never do such tasks for herself. In any case, I know very well that she can’t be put up to, or talked down from, anything.”

Kagome grinned, her smile spreading slowly until it blossomed into relieved giggles.

She held her hand and straightened her spine.

“Friends then?” She asked, and his hand was warm as it wrapped firmly around hers, silken skin folding around her much daintier fingers and sending a frisson of electricity up her arm.

“Hn. Friends.”

Looking back, having a sibling with a human for a mother was preferable to the alternative.

"It doesn't count as bestiality if you're in your true form at the time," -Yokai with animal forms, probably.

“Explain,” he ordered.

The boy’s face reddened. “My father was a fine inuyokai, though a lesser one, and his true form was quite small. I suspect the bitch’s owner probably mistook him for an ordinary dog.”

“Owner,” Sesshomaru said, eyeing the pups as the implication of their parentage became clear.

“Sesshomaru-sama, I know you also have a half-sibling whose mother is from another species,” the boy said hopefully, and somewhere, Inuyasha sneezed.

“So…can you tell me what to expect?”

A Inuyasha fanfiction for @thepromptfoundry event Genreaury day 7 slasher horror.

As a heavy rain storm come down on the family on their journey, Inuyasha look around as he hold his fire rat robe over his family to keep them dry when his wife Kagome see a hut and she cry out, "Inuyasha, that hut look like a place we can stay for a little bit until the storm pass by." A bit nervous about the hut, Inuyasha nod his head and help Kagome, Akio, Moroha, and Izayo inside the hut before he come in where they find a samurai wearing a gray kimono and a white mask that show his eyes sitting by a fire and then look up to the family and said, "Oh, I was not expecting guests." and Kagome said to him, "I'm sorry, sir. We are looking for a shelter from the rain." The masked samurai said, "It is okay. My name is Junzo, a ronin traveling the lands. Come sit by the fire." and the kids sit down by the fire as Inuyasha smile blood and he look around to see his sword nearby which Junzo ask Inuyasha, "I take it that you are a inuyokai, good sir. You smell my scent. I want to tell you a story." and Junzo begins his story, "There was once a beautiful miko in a village near mountains whose fall in love with a lion daiyokai all because of how handsome his human form looks. The miko listen to her own hearts and not the warning of her village and run away to marry the daiyokai and she soon have a child with him. When the miko went to her daiyokai lover to help raise their child, the lion daiyokai show his cruel nature by mocking her for loving a demon and forced him into his harem of slave girls, whose raise her son. When the miko become weak and dying, she went mad and blame her own son for her tragic and try to murder her, only for the son to kill her in self defence and use her powers to create a sword that would kill mikos. After killing his father and saving the harem, the boy grew into a man and went on a quest to slay all miko whose have demon lovers." Junzo quickly try to stab one of the children, but Inuyasha act quickly and block his sword with Tessaiga and cry out, "You are insane!" which Junzo cry out, "I'm not mad! I'm killing women whose sleep with demons for their twisted fantasy and give their children whose are in pain because of having demon blood and spiritual powers within them a mercy death." and the two hanyo clash swords, which soon ends when Inuyasha use the Meido Tessaiga on him, and all that was left of Junzo is his mask. The scared family soon left the area, hoping to leave the nightmare behind.

Holiday Interrupted...

Part One: CHRISTMAS CH 1

Winters in Northern Japan can be extremely brutal. Especially when traveling the countryside 500 years in the past with no modern amenities. In the feudal era, something as simple as the common cold could be deadly if not properly treated. So Kagome was determined to come completely prepared. Granted, it was proving to be a much more difficult task than originally intended.

In the past, their group had been rather small. But with the recent addition of a certain bossy inuyokai, an annoying kappa, a confusing two heated dragon, and a 9 year old human girl, things had gotten crowded.

Her supply list had gotten considerably longer, but she didn't care. She had a surprise in store for everyone this year.

Normally, she would return home in the middle of winter to celebrate holidays with her family. In the 5 years she had been traveling through time, she had never once missed.

But this year, her family won an all expenses paid trip to New York City in America. They only had three tickets, so Kagome would be left alone this year.

It was fitting, really. The battle with Naraku seemed to be getting more intense lately. The kuro-hanyu seemed to be getting desperate the more time went on. The battles were more violent, and more blood seemed to be shed with each passing encounter.

But no matter how many times they faced the slimy spider in battle, there seemed to be no sure victory in sight.

Things needed to change. She decided to do that by giving the group a much needed boost of serotonin.

What better way to do that than with gifts? Since she would be alone on the holidays... why not bring the holidays to her second family?!

Thinking about how excited everyone would be put a new pep in her step; she quickly ventured onward through the shopping center, throwing things left & right into her cart.

"I see. That is quite the shame. I find you to be rather cute, if I must say so myself." Abe no Seimei flicked out his fan and waved it in front of him, his eyes teasingly glaring towards the great inuyokai. "You're a doggie, aren't you? I'm part fox."

AIKO

It really took a lot of effort and confidence to design Aiko older. I respected the colors from her kimono when she was younger, but I added more red to make reference for the Robe of the Fire-Rat. I even decided to give to her the necklace with her parents pictures, the very same pendant that Kagome gave Inuyasha on the second movie. I understand Moroha is Canon and many have become her fans, so all I can ask is to be open minded torwards Aiko and enjoy her as another daughter of InuKag. Inuyasha and Kagome © Rumiko Takahashi

At first I thought it would be no big deal to draw up a grown Asahi.

But then I thought… why stop there??

These are SessKag babies from my fic Unexpected.

Minoru, the first born. The quintessential Hanyo. Looks just like his uncle, but with Sesshomaru’s face. As the eldest, he wants to be just like his father, but he’s a lot more like Kagome. More naturally inclined to the bow, but he practices hard with his sword.

The Twins, Himari and Sota. Himari was born with the appearance of a full yokai. She’s bubbly, happy, and silly, but with Kagome’s temper. She won’t hesitate to maim anyone who intends to harm her family. Sota was born with the appearance of being completely human. He was named for Kagome’s brother, but most resembles her father. He is the most like Sesshomaru in personality. Despite how they look, they are both Hanyo.

The Elf Child, Akemi. Sweet and even tempered, she looks most like Sesshomaru’s mother. She is the only child with Kagome’s eyes. She and Asahi are best friends. She has an affinity for gardening, especially caring for rare, hard to grow plants.

Asahi, the baby. His appearance came as a shock, as he’s the least “human” looking of all his siblings. He wears glasses because his eyes are very “doggish” and he needs help correcting his vision. He cannot speak with words outside of his human night as he has a canine about and vocal cords, but he can communicate in inuyokai just fine, a language his whole family speaks. Kagome read to him often as a child to ensure he understood the human language, so he enjoys scholarly pursuits, reading, writing, and he has the best penmanship of all his siblings.

All of the siblings are very close and enjoy spending time together and with their parents

The Lady Mother observed the elderly dog demoness as she combined ingredients—herbs, flowers, even a bit of the girl’s menstrual blood.

“Inuyokai swear by this concoction. Proven to strengthen the womb and increase fertility.”

The girl eyed it cautiously.

“It’s safe for humans?”

“Of course.” One way to find out anyway.

“Could there be any odd effects on the children?”

That was an intriguing question. Her son had his peculiarities, but those had certainly been inherited from his father.

“Drink, dear. You test my patience.”

Rin sipped the tisane; the dog mother’s potion.
