bofurin trio in feudal japan | youkai au
inuyasha-esque au featuring the wbk characters as youkai and other feudal era figures. I watched too much inuyasha as a child and you can tell lol
kitsune!suo x fem!reader hcs here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sakura haruka | nekomata-possessed human
→ a nekomata possessed him while he was still in the womb. its memories are gone, but its powers remained. consequently, sakura was born as a human with nekomata features (including his black & white hair, superhuman strength, and a tendency to severely misbehave).
→ he can switch completely between forms. he cannot shift into the form of another human or radically change his human appearance, however.
→ he tends to prefer existing in his human form. (If he spends too long in his nekomata form, he becomes afraid that he'll forget how to be a human and permanently stay a monster.)
→ when he gets embarrassed or very emotional, his ears and two tails come out.
→ suo teases him a lot for this and will try to provoke it as much as possible lmao. he likes to offer sakura towels and ask him to dance whenever his tails are out. (the first time this happened, sakura tried to maul him lol)
→ growing up, sakura was referred to as a "demon child" and ostracized his whole life. after a demon attack on their village, sakura was blamed and his parents were killed for having given birth to him. he escaped to the mountains (where nekomata tend to hide) and lived mostly as a cat for some time before re-entering human society due to nirei.
→ this is why he's so poorly socialized and literally has feral cat energy btw lol
→ misses and longs for human connection, but is also afraid of it!
→ hates vegetables because he is a cat, likes meat because he is a cat, and likes eggs because his mom used to cook them a lot.
Tumblr media
art by yoshitaka amano
nirei akihiro | human onmyouji
→ an onmyouji related by blood to the abe clan. originally a young and talented officer working at the bureau of onmyou, he became frustrated (frightened) with its politics and left for the private sector. he loses the court official hat, but he keeps the clothes because I think they're pretty 👍
→ his talents mainly lie in astronomy, divination, and calendar-making. very analytical stuff!
→ due to his family having been affected by disease spirits when he was younger, he has a strong wish to become skilled in exorcisms and always attempts to engage with evil spirits and demons to build experience.
→ chronicles his encounters with the supernatural, at first for his own learning, but now because he wants to put together a publication to help others interested in recognising supernatural phenomena and understanding common exorcism practices.
→ at some point, nirei was privately contracted to perform a purification ritual at a small mountain village. he heard stories about a boar demon that had been causing problems, so he went to go search for it, and it nearly killed him. sakura (living in his nekomata form) happened to be nearby at this time and saved him. he expected nirei to try to attack him or run at this point, but nirei instead tried to communicate with sakura, despite his monstrous appearance.
→ upon realising that sakura could actually adopt a human form, nirei convinced him to go back to the mountain village with him by offering to treat him to oyakodon.
→ the villagers were somewhat frightened by his appearance, but warmed up when nirei explained that sakura had killed the boar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pictured above are japanese works depicting kitsune, which suo would be considered, but some of the below is influenced by lore regarding the related chinese myth of the huli jing
suo hayato | nine-tailed fox spirit
→ a nine-tailed fox spirit who was originally quite powerful; however, his hoshi no tama was stolen in a fight with a demon, which left him weak and nearly dead.
→ after these events, took refuge in a village with an inari shrine and acted as their guardian deity for some time as an act of gratitude.
→ having lost his hoshi no tama, suo's powers are now limited but still substantial. notably, he can still shapeshift freely between a number of forms—his original form of the common fox, different human appearances, etc.—but he cannot adopt his true form of a giant nine-tailed fox.
→ in his typical disguise, he is indistinguishable from regular humans. however, if you manage to catch his shadow in the light of a full moon, it reveals his true ears and nine tails. (based on this art!)
→ his disguises are otherwise so skilled that even other youkai and animals have difficulty recognising him. however, all dogs can sense fox spirits and are consequently terrified of suo. suo, himself, prefers not to interact with dogs.
→ while sakura did not immediately recognize suo as a youkai, he correctly identified him as a shitty person at his core (lol) and was later unsurprised to learn that suo was a kitsune. ("oh, the worst kind of demon.")
→ on the other hand, suo immediately recognized that sakura was a nekomata lol
→ being a fox spirit, suo is quite skilled in jujutsu and eventually trains nirei in exorcisms and/or demon extermination techniques.
→ sakura has a preference to travel and hunt demons at night, partly because there are fewer people around to make a spectacle of him, and partly because it's just his inclination as a cat. since nirei is a human and cannot see well in the dark (unlike his two youkai companions), suo lights up mountain pathways with kitsunebi to allow nirei to see.
→ in addition to enjoying tea and sweets, suo likes aburaage (since he is a fox spirit). if you offer aburaage to the kami at a shrine, there's a 9/10 chance that suo will come by and eat it before any of inari's actual messengers can visit.

‘Kagome, what have I told you about reading by candlelight?!’
Kagome smiled down at the page she was reading, the dancing, golden light of candle flame bouncing around the words before leaping up and swallowing the room.
Warm, yellow light suffused her entire being, and her eyes closed in contentment.
‘But papa, candle light is prettier than lamp light.’
‘Foolish girl, you’ll be blinder than a bat before your 20th birthday. Then how will you stitch all those cushions your aunty brings you?’
‘Maybe that’s the point.’
Papa laughed, the large, hearty sound that filled any room and made her feel so happy and safe, and then patted her head, setting down the bright lamp that he’d brought for her.
‘Keep your books AND your eyes, my darling.’
‘Thank you papa.’

Inextricably Knotted (An Inukag + Jane Eyre AU) [Chapter 10]
Summary: Kagome Higurashi was orphaned as a baby and raised by her cruel aunt until the age of ten, after which she went to school and learned the art of service and self-suppression. Now eighteen, Kagome takes a job as the governess of Shippo, the young ward of the great and mysterious Lord Inuyasha Taisho.
But as Kagome gets to know her bemusing master, a ghost seems to haunt his estate, hinting that there is a long-lost secret hiding on the third floor.

Chapter 10: Full and Hearty
It seemed there would never again be a time in which the house would only hold its rightful residents. It had been three weeks since Lady Yura and the other demons had come, and the spring had fully ripened its fruits and was indeed inching toward summer. There were bugs everywhere—bees, dragonflies, caterpillars, little ants, and flies. For every type that agitated her, there were three which coaxed out her affection.
Shippo was nigh unteachable. Kagome wondered if he was seldom permitted outside before she became his teacher—for at every break of day, there he was, begging her to hold his lessons out of doors so that he might find a caterpillar or ladybug to hold while she taught. She could never deny him. She was beginning to gain color to her face, neck, and hands, and she grew concerned that she would have to find dresses with shorter sleeves and lighter fabric. She understood that having tanned skin was unattractive on a woman, but she did not have the audacity to care.
After the incident with Suikotsu, Mr. Taisho seemed more dour than ever—at least, with Kagome. With Lady Yura, he was all flirtation and ease. He stopped demanding that Kagome sit up in the drawing room every night; or, rather, he stopped speaking to her entirely during these times, and after a single instance in which she abstained and he never came beckoning or scolding, she took that as an informal exoneration. During the days that followed and the rare times that he did speak to her in passing or at a meal, he never said anything about it.
There was one day during which she shared the courtyard with him and his guests, who were playing birdie. Kagome sat on the grass with Shippo a firm distance away, which the guests seemed to appreciate. Though, by the periodic glances of disgust that some of them—mainly, Lady Yura, Lady Kagura, and Sir Naraku—offered, she figured they would prefer her full absence even more.
Kagome was teaching Shippo some basic algebra. This was something with which a human child of proportionate age would struggle immensely; however, Kagome found that Shippo had advanced in mathematics (and no other subject) faster than she expected, and she figured she might as well teach him more advanced calculations. They had his notebook and nothing else, and Kagome would write a problem on a page before handing it to him, after which he would compute with the steps she taught him, and he would trade it back for her checking.
It was during a moment of Shippo’s handling of the notebook that Kagome heard the demons’ conversation switch. Lady Yura, who had paused to break with water but was otherwise unfazed by the warm sun, admired the floral landscaping of the courtyard and mentioned that she had a dress inspired by one of the blossoming trees.
“It is a soft pink, perfect for a spring ball. Say, Inuyasha—would you ever hold a ball in your house? You could certainly fit one of moderate size.”
Mr. Taisho kept his focus on the birdie game with Sir Koga. Kagome could not see his face, as his back was to her, but she could hear his voice. She could always hear his voice if he was even remotely nearby, the sound breaking through all other noise and flowing to her ears like river water through a valley of rocks.
“I suppose I could. Would you be my dance partner?”
Lady Yura giggled and clutched the half drained water glass to her breast. “If you impressed me well enough.”
“Well, then I shall consider it a challenge. I will look into hosting one in the next month before the heat peaks.”
The ladies squealed in delight. The men kept at their game, uncaring.
Kagome came back to herself and found that Shippo was trying to return the notebook. She accepted it with a wince, and he turned his head to gaze up at her.
“Are you alright, Miss Higurashi?” he asked softly. He had learned without her telling that he must speak softly when around other demons. Whether he spoke softly enough to avoid their ears was uncertain to her.
“Yes, I’m only beginning to bake like a pastry in this sun. I have a few more problems for you, and then we will go back to the library.”
“Okay,” he smiled submissively.
A few moments later, Kagome rose to her feet and stretched her neck and shoulders. Mr. Taisho was now conversing with Lady Yura off to the side of the party, and it appeared everyone had taken a break. Kagome considered waiting to catch a moment of Mr. Taisho’s attention so that she could signal her departure, but a half minute of waiting unsuccessfully only proved to make her self-conscious, and she decided to head inside.
The cooler air of the house was an immediate relief to her heated skin. Kagome dismissed Shippo for lunch, and upon entering the dining room, Lady Kaede intercepted her.
“Oh, my dear! I’m so glad you’ve come. Would you mind helping me take some new bed sheets to the guests’ rooms after you eat?” asked the woman. Always so nearly out of breath.
“Yes, ma’am. I should not be long; I’m only eating a little.”
“Why is that, child? Are you ill?”
In that second, Kagome dedicated much effort to adjusting her countenance to reflect health and normalcy. She had no wish to hint to anyone that she was feeling negatively, as servants’ idle chatter almost always worked its way back to the master.
“I am perfectly well, Lady Kaede,” she began with an assuring smile. “I’m only tired from the sun, and I don’t wish to add to my lethargy by bloating my stomach.”
“Indeed, madam. You’ve gathered some freckles on your nose from the sun,” she said lowly, scolding. “You’d better do more to protect your skin. It is normally quite fair—you’d rather not blemish it.”
Kagome giggled genuinely. “Yes. Thank you, ma’am. I’ll see if I can find an umbrella to shield me.”
The woman nodded in approval.
A few minutes later, Lady Kaede was piling up folded sheet after folded sheet atop her extended arms. She gave Kagome instructions and, with a final thanks, sent her on her way.
Kagome slowly worked her way through the second floor’s bedrooms, replacing bed sheets and towelettes as she went. She had no notion of whose room belonged to whom, with the exception of course of her own, Lady Kaede’s, Shippo’s, and Mr. Taisho’s. The dozen other rooms littered throughout the level all blurred together.
Kagome was coming around the hallway’s corner, the final four sheets still piled in her aching arms, and the sound of feminine giggling halted her steps. Kagome immediately recognized the women as Lady Yura and Lady Kagura. Kagome did as always upon meeting them in the house: she stopped walking, edged to the side, and stood silently with bowed head. The women were indeed coming her way to pass, and Kagome did not wish to garner their special attention.
This wish was only half granted.
The women did not halt their steps, though they did mutter to each other as they came.
“There is that ghostly governess. Always so freakishly watchful,” said Lady Yura with a poorly masked whisper.
“Hush,” urged Lady Kagura, “or she’ll hear you.”
“Human senses are so terribly dull, Kagura. And even if she did, what would she do? Tell the other servants? They’ll be turned out of the house alongside her when I have my way, in any case.”
Kagome’s fingers clenched in the fabric of the sheets. The women passed and turned the corner, and Kagome released the breath she was holding. She needed to breathe. Breathe. Her eyes were turned up toward the high ceiling, and she felt them fill with stubborn tears. Her throat stung.
But she would not let herself sob.
She urged her feet forward, and she moved toward the next room. When she was still a few meters away, the door swung open.
Mr. Taisho stepped out, a small stack of envelopes tight in his grip. Kagome guessed he was delivering letters that had been sent to his friends during their stay. He did not need to notice her; his eyes were on her from the moment he opened the door. He had known she was out here, no doubt, either by smell or sound.
Kagome was not quite startled by his sudden appearance. Rather, she immediately directed herself to school her features and behave distantly, as they had done all week.
But when he came to pass where she was standing, he stopped and offered her a blank look.
“Good afternoon,” he said.
“Good afternoon.” She did not look at him. She buried her focus in the sheets she carried.
“Are you well?”
A desultory question.
“Yes, sir.”
“Good. I was worried you may have melted from the sun earlier. I looked away for a minute, and you were gone.”
Kagome almost furrowed her brow, but she stopped the expression, her head still bowed low. “My apologies. I meant to communicate with you, but I did not wish to interrupt.”
He was silent for a moment, and Kagome felt his gaze roaming about her face. “I see,” he began slowly. “And all is well with your pupil?”
“Of course.”
“I heard you teaching him algebra.”
“Yes, sir.”
“I would not have anticipated such quick advancement in that subject.”
“Nor I,” she began, the talk of Shippo coaxing her into finally meeting his golden eyes. This was the one subject about which she should have the right to speak with him without shyness. “But he has learned quickly.”
“That is good.” He smiled a soft smile, and Kagome wondered about his sudden endearment toward the fox.
Her arms were growing weak beneath the weight of the sheets that still burdened them. She was about to excuse herself, but he spoke again, “Did you hear of the ball I’ve obligated myself to plan last minute?”
Would it be strange for Kagome to lie? She felt the urge for an unknown reason, but she snuffed it. “Some of it, yes.”
“I hope that the house will be able to host with no problems,” he said.
“The house will have no issue; it is the servants who deserve the most concern.”
Inuyasha smiled curiously. “Admittedly, I am not in the habit of being concerned about my servants.”
Clearly, Kagome thought, arms shaking. He seemed to read the quip on her face—his smile grew ever so slightly.
“It will be a lovely occasion, anyhow, with the partner I’ve acquired.”
Kagome’s breath stuttered in her chest. “I’m sure lady Yura is a lovely dancer.”
He seemed distracted as he passed over her comment. “Do you dance, Miss Higurashi?”
Kagome could not feign humoring the question she perceived was only a nicety—and one he already knew the answer to. “Not even a little.”
“Perhaps I could teach you some turns.”
She started, pulling finally her gaze from the hallway’s various points of interest to his grinning face. Was he truly so ignorant of her feelings? Or did he simply care so little that he didn’t mind jeopardizing them for his own afternoon amusement? She sighed—an act of composure rather than expression. “Your instruction would be wasted on me.”
“Nonsense.”
Forgetting herself at his absurdity, she scoffed in jest, “What, has sir Koga inquired about me?”
There was a twinge of hurt in her voice, and Inuyasha’s face hardened.
“It was a joke.” An unfunny one, apparently.
Inuyasha spared a glance to the hall, she supposed to check if anyone was watching. Then, he took the sheets from her arms, set them down on a nearby bench, and grabbed her hand.
“This way,” he said, pulling her around the bend.
“Sir—I’m in the middle of an errand—” she managed from behind.
He tugged her further. “So was I,” he said, holding up the letters in his hand. “I’m sure it can wait a few minutes.”
He kept on his shepherding, and only once did he halt hastily—after which Kagome unceremoniously hit his back with her face—to linger unseen behind a corner and allow a servant to pass through the other bend. They resumed their journey afterward.
They reached one of the small studies, seldom used. There was an open area before the desk, a circular rug of various dainty colors and patterns covering the hardwood with a mid-sized circumference. He released her hand and moved to pick up a couple of chairs that rested on the rug. After moving them to the margins of the room, he turned to her with a smile and an outstretched hand.
“I’ll teach you a basic step. Come to me.”
Kagome gave him an incredulous look, to which he merely raised a brow. She swallowed, peaking behind her at the cracked door, and obeyed. He took one of her hands and held it at a heightened arm’s length.
They remained still at first, Kagome’s body stiff and hesitant. His direct gaze fell upon her face, and she could not bear its weight for longer than a couple of seconds at a time. Before speaking, he squeezed her hand to attract her undivided attention. “Have you heard of the minuet?”
Never before had Kagome been so frightened by a word that she did not know. “I’ve never been taught anything about any dances. Ever.” She hoped this would discourage him enough to make him give up on this sudden pet project.
It did not.
“No matter. It is easy, I promise.”
“Do not underestimate my ability to make easy things difficult.”
Inuyasha laughed heartily at that, fangs and all, and Kagome noticed for the first time how lovely the sunlight streaming in from the window was.
“I could make a joke about that, but I won’t.”
Kagome scrunched her nose in half-feigned offense. “Wise choice, sir.”
He cleared his throat, still smiling. He turned their bodies so that they stood beside each other and faced the same direction. “Mirror what I do. Start by stepping forward with your right foot and bend into a bouree—”
“Please understand that you will have to pause and explain every dance term you use,” she warned.
He considered her with his sideways glance. “Then doff the damn names. I’ll tell you in simple terms.”
“Thank you, your majesty, for humbling yourself to my level.” She couldn’t help it—matching his friendly energy. No matter how hard she fought it, she would always be at the mercy of his positive attention. No matter how angry and hateful toward herself she felt afterward.
“My pleasure,” he rebuffed. “Now close that mouth of yours and watch. Pupils should not interrupt their masters’ lessons.”
“Forgive me,” she said, half giggling.
The lighthearted sound seemed to bring even more elation to his wild eyes. “Now, start by stepping your right foot—but bend your knees slightly as you do so. After you rise again, you’ve completed a bouree.”
“I thought we tossed the terms?”
Inuyasha’s ears twitched, and he nearly growled in annoyance, “I’ll toss you over my shoulder if you don’t quit smartmouthing me. Or worse, I’ll make you learn the most complicated dance I know.”
She smothered her laugh, and she succeeded in banning the image from entering her easily flustered mind. “Neither will be necessary. Please, continue.” As a sign of good faith, she completed this first step, syncing with his stance.
“Now, take three normal steps,” and they did so together slowly, ending on their left foot. “Now, you’ll dip your knees again.”
“Another ‘bouree’?” she mocked absentmindedly as she followed the instructions beside him.
“Actually, it’s called a—”
She whipped her head sideways to raise her brows expectantly at him, but he stopped short.
“Never mind it,” he said, turning to unsubtly roll his eyes toward the window.
“And then what?”
“And then you repeat it. Over and over again,” he said, demonstrating the fluidity of the repetition, which she mimicked a second later.
“That doesn’t seem too hard,” Kagome observed.
“It can be made as complicated as you like. The steps can be performed sideways and backward, faster or with irregular rhythm. Depending on the music, the dance may be difficult to perform.”
“I see.”
“Let’s go from this end of the rug to the next a little faster this time, and then we’ll turn inward and return.”
Kagome gulped. “Don’t laugh at me if I stumble a bit.”
Inuyasha’s fingers toyed with hers in the air, and he smirked down at her. “Miss Higurashi, I hope you know that the reason why I’m doing this is in part to laugh at you a little.”
She pouted. “You’re a cruel master, you know?”
“Of course I know that,” he said, and they began their attempt.
Kagome managed to reach the end of the rug with no hiccups, and though she almost turned the wrong way, their hands indeed met—the other ones, this time—warm and natural. They returned to the opposite side.
“There you go. You’ll be a ballroom dancer, yet,” he said, retaining her hand.
“Yes, perhaps at a circus one day.”
“A circus?” he began, ushering her to repeat the turn again with him. “If you performed in a circus, I would sooner imagine you a snake charmer. Or a lion tamer.”
“Now, there’s a riddle,” mused Kagome as they switched hands. She paused for a moment to regain focus as he began changing the tempo and angle of their steps ever so slightly. Once acclimated, she directed her gaze out the window again, partly to hide her smile, which had grown incessant. “Does he mean it as an insult or a compliment? And who is the snake or lion? Surely he cannot mean Shippo, the little angel.”
Instead of satisfying her questions, he directed them toward himself. “And what would I be? If I were in a circus.”
Eyes returning forward to the ground, she hummed. “I’ve never been to a circus, but from what I do know, perhaps you would be a magician.”
“Oh?”
“Yes—I’m quite sure now. A magician.”
“And why is that?”
“I don’t know. I’ve some faded memory of a trick I once heard about that reminds me of you, but I cannot recall its details.”
“You are a tease.”
“And you are calling the kettle black.”
They were looking at each other again, having returned to their starting point. A beat passed, and Inuyasha changed the subject yet again. “Would you like to learn one specialty move?”
“That depends.”
“On?”
“My chances of surviving it.”
“Oh, I’d wager a solid ninety to ten.”
“For my survival, or my demise?”
His grin was wide. “I’ll tell you after you’ve tried it.”
Kagome sighed deep. “As you wish, sir.”
He immediately grew electric beneath the skin, nearly bouncing on his toes in anticipation. He took a half step from her and released her hand, facing her fully. “I learned this one on the continent. Do not ask from what sort of establishment—what matters is that the move itself is elegant, even if its creators were not.”
Kagome’s mouth opened wide in shock. “With that sort of disclaimer, I have no need to ask what sort of establishment it was!”
“Forget about it. The move itself is nothing that would be recognized as such, so it doesn’t matter,” he argued with a vicious grin.
“Well, I certainly won’t be learning anything unless you describe it to me first,” she said, crossing her arms.
Inuyasha filled his lungs, his broad chest puffing out, and explained carefully, “From being at my side, you start by taking my shoulder at the same time that I hook my arm about your waist. Then, I’ll lift you up until you can put your arm fully behind my neck, and I’ll spin you for a full turn until you’re facing the other direction.”
Those were a lot of words, many of which were distractingly about her arm around his neck and his arm around her waist. A different image than what he articulated invaded her mind’s eye, and she felt her cheeks run hot. “That sounds rather…” She trailed off, unsure of where she was going.
“Do you need to hear it again?” he toyed.
After a moment of internal mortification, Kagome nodded. “Perhaps just my parts.”
He smiled—and not so patiently, either. He resumed his place by her side, only this time, they were only a few inches apart rather than an arm's length. “You’ve only one part, really. Just place your hand on my shoulder,” and here, Inuyasha gripped her closest hand and placed it accordingly there. “Then, as I reach to grab you—” he snaked a timid hand around the small of her waist, his face drawing closer to hers, “—slide your arm so that my neck is in the crook of your elbow.”
She did so, her fingertips gliding under his loose hair and toward the collar of his jacket, as she kept her eyes on his face. His own arm continued its progress, her waist settling into the crook of his own elbow. He was squatting slightly now, and he was looking up at her, assessing her features. To Kagome, time had stopped. He was so close—closer than he had ever been. He licked his lips, and her gaze stayed fixed on his mouth.
“Then, just…”
Instead of elaborating, Inuyasha pushed himself back to a full stand, taking her feet off the ground. Her breath left her lungs in an involuntary shriek as he spun her a full rotation. Along the way, her arm clenched around his neck, and her free hand came to grip the fabric near his chest, disrupting the momentum of the move. As soon as he stopped, his grip around her loosened enough for her feet to touch ground, and he towered over her again. They held each other outright now; her hand remained on his shoulder, but her other was splayed out against his chest, and both of his hands were hooked behind her waist.
“See? Ninety to ten.”
Flustered, Kagome laughed aloud. She thought about saying that it was still unclear which percentage reflected which outcome, but he spoke before her with a warm glimmer in his eye and an impossibly soft expression on his face.
“There’s that laugh of yours, full and hearty. You too rarely bless me with it.”
Kagome herself couldn’t recall the last time she had laughed like that—and it felt deliciously good. Her shoulders felt looser, her lungs freer, and she wanted to keep laughing with him, again and again.
“Let’s try again,” she said, stepping to return to his side but keeping her hand on his shoulder.
He followed her movements intently, almost trance-like. “Yes ma’am.” He put his hand on the small of her waist. “On the count of three: one, too, three—”
And then she was soaring, his heavy arm circling her fully until his hand was splayed out on her stomach and hers on his opposite shoulder. She did not shriek this time; rather, she kept her eyes on his and let him carry her full weight. Even with his lowered position as the base, she was still only a few inches taller than him now.
Once he reached the end of his turning, he placed her back down gently. Their hands lingered—his behind her waist and hers atop his shoulder—and they exchanged breathy laughs a second time.
“Miles better,” said Inuyasha. “I didn’t feel like you were on your way to choking me.”
“Yes—because I didn’t feel like I was on my way to a broken leg,” she argued.
“What?" he exclaimed. “It would take far more than dropping you from that height to break your leg!”
“Ah, that’s right. You would know, after all,” she mocked.
Inuyasha gaped at her, mouth half open in a frozen, aghast grin. “I refuse to validate such villainy with a response. There will be no changing subjects here; you were afraid because you didn’t trust me. Admit it,” he accused, tickling her side with his claws.
Kagome nearly squealed at the sudden movement of his fingers. He had only tickled her for half a second, but she shot both of her hands down to cover his to halt any further assault—yet she knew this would not be enough, as revealed by the greater size of his hand even compared to both of hers together. “Please, Inuyasha—” she began to bargain, her voice sounding almost whimper-like in her simultaneous attempt to grasp air. He brought himself closer—or perhaps he tugged her closer?—and she could almost feel the male arrogance radiating from his smirk. She repeated between giggles, “Please, don’t.”
He kept his fingers still, but only to negotiate: “Say you’re sorry for not trusting me,” he said lowly. His smile was malicious.
Kagome gawked at his incessant audacity, and forgetting herself, she shied her face away by placing her forehead on Inuyasha’s shoulder. Her voice was sardonic and exasperated: “I hereby apologize.”
He could not see it, but she was still smiling.
“There. I see I’ve taught you how to dance and how to repent.”
Kagome returned to her full stature and raised a brow at him. “One I already knew how to do—and the other cannot be judged until there is some occasion to test it, and I doubt that will ever happen.”
Her latter comment seemed to humble him slightly—or at least, he seemed to remember himself again, and to remember her. He spoke, “This has been good for me. I was rustier than I thought, and now I won’t have to worry about embarrassing myself in front of lady Yura.”
She knew it was coming, but she still stiffened, fingers clutching the fabric at his shoulders. Her smile had vanished.
“Tell me,” he began, and she saw a foreign look fix itself in his eye, the distant one that she had seen take him over more than once before. “You’re a lady—what manner of proposal would you like? I’m struggling with my plan.”
A lightning bolt laced her spine; she was paralyzed. And she was also angry, more angry than ever, at herself—as she had seen the lightning curling and rearing in the sky, and she had not fled for shelter out of naive hope it would not strike her. She felt the blood flee her cheeks. “I’ve never given it any thought. You… might be better served asking someone else.”
His expression was inscrutable. “Nonsense—surely you’ve thought about an ethereal, faceless man getting on one knee before you one day.”
No—not a faceless one. “Sir, even if I had, I’m sure my tastes would differ too much from Lady Yura’s for my insight to be worth anything.”
His brow furrowed, and his ears flattened slightly.
“I really should be getting back… I’ve been gone too long as it is; I’m sure Lady Kaede has been seeking me.”
She released her grip from him and bowed her head a little lower than what her habit was. “Thank you for your instruction. I hope that I’ll find a time to use it one day, so that it isn’t neglected.”

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
I was thoughtfully tagged by @racfoam! Thank you <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
25 works
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
318,492 words
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly HP and Teen Wolf. I also used to write a lot of Naruto about fifteen years ago.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Rigmarole Dance - Harrymort soulmate AU
Gentle Roar - Steter omegaverse mating run AU
As Portioned from a Whole - Harrymort dystopian Voldemort raises Harry AU
Anthropological - Steter xeno wolf rape oneshot
Id Est - Steter smutty 800 word drabble. Surprised this one is on the list lol
5. Do you respond to comments? Why? Why not?
Sometimes! If someone asks a question or comments something particularly conversational. I go through waves.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Uuuh this is hard. Angsty for who? hahaha
Based on reader response and bookmark notes I've noticed, either Paradisus, a Harrymort Volddmort wins AU in Draco Malfoy's POV, or Be Thyself, a soulmate AU in Lily's POV, seem to be the endings that bother people the most. I get a lot of 'this was great, I'll never read it again' lmaaooo
But a LOT of my works are open ended or end with one half still in captivity/unhappy. The other half is happy though! :D
Honeyguide, splits your skin, Research and Development, etc all have this "bad ending."
(*The angiest ending I'll ever write is still a WIP, but it's coming.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
The Rigmarole Dance for sure. It's light, funny, has the happiest feelings.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Sometimes.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I write mostly smut. Lots of non-con, lots of wet and messy, lots of monster cocks.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don't think I've ever written a crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yeah, a few times unfortunately.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yep
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I had a really fun steter omegaverse dystopia project with a friend that we discussed heavily but never actually started. We called it the trash diamond. It involved amputation, conditioning and programming, you know the fun stuff haha. I still hope to write it.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Harrymort <3
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
...I will finish all my WIPs gdi lmao
16. What are your writing strengths?
Atmosphere/prose. Recently, dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action. I struggle between pretty phrases and conveying immediacy.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Yes! It's great for making the POV character and readers feel alienated when they can't understand what's being said. Also if you want to establish a character is pretentious.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Ooooh. I think InuYasha in the 2000s.
20. Favourite fics you’ve written?
I'm a self-indulgent writer, so pretty much everything I write is for me.
Research and Development was an experimental challenge for me that I'm really proud of. It's told in a dissociated first person POV through "scientific" logs and follows Voldemort's experiment on Harry and the deterioration of his indifferent observations as he becomes more obsessed with Harry.
I'm also really proud of Embryo, a fic idea I've been writing and rewriting for over ten years that I've begun to actually post. I've put a lot of work and research into it in order to capture Tom Riddle's voice and intelligence. It's in his POV, in the 1940s, and Harry shows up as a mysterious student no one can seem to explain or even remember long enough to answer Tom's questions about him.
I think racfoam already tagged a lot of other writers I know. Tagging @vdoshu @metalomagnetic @lordansketil @crowcrowcrowthing @vestiges-of-light and anyone else who wants to!

your kagome/inuyasha fics are so wonderful! have you considered ever doing any miroku/sango ones? you'd do a great job characterizing them
I’m not going to lie, this is highly convenient. I could not have envisioned a better timed, nor better phrased ask.
PRESENTING:
Tumblr media
A BIRTHDAY TEASER FOR @sapphirestarxx!!!
Happiest of birthdays, darling. I am so, so sorry that I couldn’t finish this for today, I really tried! But this fic kind of exploded in the sense that what should have been like 10 scenes is now well over forty. So I need a bit more time. FORGIVE ME.
But please have this snippet for now and know that it is coming exceptionally soon, I promise you. This is possibly the most Canadian thing I’ve ever written. And before some of you go pffftttt ice dancing, may I present you with these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yes. Know that in this fic, Miroku is 100% horny on main and this is only rivaled by, you guessed it, the yearning. If interested, read on below.
Tumblr media
The thing was–
The thing was that Miroku Tsujitani was very good at his job.
He’d been skating since he was ten, since his newfound guardian had absolutely no idea what to do with him and Miroku desperately needed some sort of distraction after the death of his father. There were plenty of other sporting opportunities, other hobbies, but Mushin didn’t know much outside of his tiny little town, and that tiny little town basically had one recreation centre with skating activities throughout the entire winter season.
It was good though. Miroku liked challenges enough that skating was something to dig into, and as it turned out, he was pretty good at it. Decent enough that the coach there, an older lady by the name of Kaede, thought it would be hilarious to partner him up with one of the girls for a duet.
Her name was Sango Kuwashima and she was tiny and fierce like a baby lion. She was quick to smile, but even quicker to punch, if Miroku did anything dumb. It was…revolutionary, considering all of his other friends had been treating him like he was about to break at any second. And at the time, maybe he was. Maybe he was only one good ribbing away from losing it completely.
But Sango didn’t seem to care, mainly because she didn’t know. And that made things infinitely better. Miroku started to prefer going to the rink more and more, spending time on the ice with the brisk air and Sango’s challenging gaze upon him. She was only a year younger but far more skilled. He had to work twice as hard to keep up.
And it paid off.
Like, it actually paid off.
Fast forward to twelve years later and Miroku was still ice dancing, still partnered with one Sango Kuwashima, and the two of them were sitting in the Kiss and Cry section at the 2018 Olympics, watching their scores appear and knowing, deep in their bones, that it wouldn’t be enough. There were six other performances. The chances of maintaining even a bronze would be nigh impossible. It was their debut Olympic year, and despite placing fourth and succeeding expectations, it was a disappointment all the same. It was heart-wrenching. After twelve years of blood, sweat and tears, of practicing for ten to thirteen hours a day, nearly every day, it was—
Well. He’d leave it at heart-wrenching.
Miroku still remembered the look in Sango’s brown eyes, haunted by their mistakes as she tried to breathe out the instant, negative reactions that always cluttered her brain. It was then, tucked away behind a curtain right before they’d be forced to speak with media that Miroku cupped her face, stared her dead in the eyes, and made a vow.
Next time, he had told her. Next time, it’ll be gold. Miroku had faith: in them, in their dedication, their skill, and their chemistry.
Because here was the thing:
What most people tended to forget was that part of their job was telling a story. Ice dancing was no different than shaking it on a stage, just with different shoes and a chillier atmosphere. They were two dancers in sync to a relentless beat and a tale begging to be told.
And yes, many of those stories were intimate. Intimate in the way of lovers, most commonly, but also intimate in friendship, in hatred, in wickedness and euphoria and every emotion in between. They were ice dancing partners: whatever she did, Miroku would be there, a personal consequence to the undeniable catalyst that was Sango Kuwashima. He would always be her counterbalance, her rock. He would be there to lift her, throw her, catch her, hold her. Miroku and Sango had grown up together, had been there for firsts and seconds and everything that lay after. They had cuddled in the backseat of minivans as Sango’s father took them to practice at six in the morning. They had cried together after losing their first major competition, hands clenched tightly together.
They displayed a form of intimacy in nearly every avenue of their lives together, intimacy built on trust, on ambition, on a partnership they had dedicated themselves to since they were fourteen.
So Miroku understood, really, when people looked at them and thought: oh, you must be together. Together-together. Not just…together. Romantic versus intimate, though very few knew the difference. Again, Miroku understood. The way he danced with Sango, the way he touched her— It wasn’t like regular people did that. They were trained to look at each other at all times, to maintain eye contact, to check-in constantly with the other. It was for their partnership, which meant it was for work. They were selling a story and they were so good at it that nearly everyone was a buyer.
Still, even when they tried to explain their near-perpetual singledom, other people didn’t get it. It’s only a matter of time, they said. Why haven’t you both just confessed, others demanded.
No, Sango would tell them, firm. No, it’s not like that, not between us.
And if Miroku maybe didn’t answer, or stared a little too long, or held on a little too tight, well…
Like he said: Miroku was very good at his job.

This is another one shot in the same universe as Stocking Stuffers. Enjoy some fluffy InuKag!Family for #Inuyasha White Day.
@clearwillow , @lemonlushff , @fantastiqueparfait , @underwater0phelia
They had just sat down to dinner, Izayoi kneeling on her chair - despite all parental protests otherwise - and Sara buckled into her highchair to keep her from climbing out of it. "I want the song with the boy and girl singing that change colors."  Inuyasha paused, glancing at his wife and then their daughter.
"Do you know what she's talking about?" Kagome asked out of the side of her mouth.
"Mommy, I can hear you," Izzy piped in, early signs of sass in the tone of their four year old.  Inuyasha made a face and then thought about it. “Daddy, on your phone!”
Understanding lit his eyes and he grinned. "I think she means Somebody that…"
"Oh!" Kagome laughed, thinking it was a pretty decent description of the music video. "You wanted the video, baby?" She nodded emphatically in response. "Here, I'll play it there for now. We're eating," she explained gently, pointing at the Bluetooth speaker on the counter. It took a second for the speaker to beep before then playing the requested song. Izayoi's grin was huge and she started wiggling in her chair while munching on her chicken nugget.
Inuyasha chuckled, teasingly rocking his shoulders, making both of their girls giggle and Kagome grin.  Sara patted her hands on the tray, calling for “More, Daddy! More dance!” He pinned Kagome with a look and repeated the movement on the beat as the song played.  Izayoi got her little hips moving too, waving a carrot in one hand and her partially eaten nugget in the other.
“Mommy, get it!”
“Yea, Mommy, get it,” Inuyasha teased. Kagome laughed and rolled her eyes, but let herself groove in her chair a little too.  Sara thought that was delightful, clapping pudgy baby hands together and squealing. “Ouch, baby, too loud for our ears,” the inuhanyou scolded gently.  Izayoi was scowling at her sister for the interruption of their fun moment. Welcome to being a big sister, Kagome thought with a wry grin.
After dinner, the girls got a bath, which was much more necessary for Sara than Iz, and each parent got to tackle combing hair.  Kagome hummed as she wrangled their youngest between her knees while holding her fine hair to keep from yanking, carefully combing around her ears.  Inuyasha, while having more hair to comb, had less to manage as Izayoi could sit to look at a book while he got out the occasional snarl.
“Alright, give mommy a kiss.”  Izzy ran over to plop a smooch on Kagome’s cheek, somewhat grudgingly giving her little sister a peck on the head.
“Night Baby.  Night Mommy.”
Inuyasha tossed a sardonic grin at his wife, the way Izayoi insisted on calling Sara "baby" instead of her name. He scuttled her off to her room while Kagome took a sleepy, and somewhat fussy, Sara into her room. She settled into the rocking chair with a sigh and gathered a squirmy baby into her chest to soothe her to sleep. Sara babbled, half singing herself to sleep over the course of twenty minutes. The soft sounds of her breathing settling, small sighs as she still fought sleep, made Kagome smile.
"She crash yet?" Inuyasha winced when she glanced up at him, that mutual understanding that it was too close yet. He gestured that he was leaving.
When she was finally sure Sara was asleep, she shifted her into her crib and snuck out. Only to be caught up by her mate. "What are you doing?" she giggled softly. Inuyasha smirked, sweeping her around in a circle, humming some formless tune. "Are we dancing?" She laughed.
"Keh. Isn't it obvious?" They twisted and twirled down the hall until Inuyasha closed their bedroom door behind them. "This is nice, you know, but I think there's some other dancing we could be doing." Kagome shook her head and smiled at his salacious grin.
"That's true. I suppose I could maybe remember a few moves…" She gently pushed at his shoulders so that he sat on the edge of the bed. The light in his golden eyes was heated. Kagome returned his look with one of her own.
"Mooooommy?"
Both parents sagged at the bucket of ice water thrown over their moment in the form of a not-yet-asleep four year old. Inuyasha moved, silently offering to handle her, but Kagome shook her head, tossing him a wry smile. There was a promise for "later" in her eyes. "I'll be here."

Mother Moon 🌙
Chapter 6
A.N.: Inuyasha grows a little more between each chapter. In this one, he’s roughly three and half by human standards, which is why he talks so well. Also, I never meant for this to go nearly a year between updates!!!!! My deepest apologies 🥹🥹
Summary: He was left on her doorstep, orphaned on the night of his birth, and something inside her compelled her to keep him. There would be gossip; there would be slander; there would be violence and attempts on her life and on his. But the Lady of the Moon had decided: he was hers. Adoption AU
Also read on: AO3
—————————————————————
Inuyasha woke up as he always did, sprawled across his bedding with a painfully empty stomach and eyes that just did not want to open yet.
Maybe a few more minutes of sleep?
Surely he wouldn’t starve to death if he just rolled over and shut his eyes again.
And his dreams had been so nice! Endless cloud fields to run and play in, and big brother Sesshomaru chased him from one end to the other but he always got away.
‘You are much faster than me, Inuyasha. A great Inuyokai, indeed,’ he’d said before pulling several sweet treats from behind his back, and they’d sat and eaten them until they were sick.
It was his favorite dream to have, especially since his Big Brother wasn’t quite ready to have fun like that yet.
But Inuyasha could tell it was almost time.
Maybe after he fell back asleep, that field would still be there, and Big Brother Sesshomaru would be waiting to play again, and they could have another picnic with all his favorite foods and desserts!
It was so lovely and warm there, endless summer sunshine and cool water to drink from a sparkling stream that ran through one side. And sometimes mama would show up to play, too! Those were his extra favorite dreams, when all three of them were free and having fun and no one ever needed to leave or spend time in boring offices with boring papers or with people who smelled sour when they saw him.
Yes, he decided, slipping back into dreamland was just the perfect choice, and he could feel the sweet touch of slumber creeping around him like a hug when a loud, sharp growl rang out inside the room, right from his stomach.
His eyes popped open, and he sat up when he heard a giggle from his doorway.
Nanny Kasumi covered her mouth to hide her grin, but her yellow eyes danced like they always did when she was laughing, and that she was laughing at him made him grumpy.
His lip poked out and he crossed his arms with a HUMPH!, which only made Nannu Kasumi laugh harder as she strolled into the room and scooped him up off his bedding.
“Come now Little Lordling, let’s put on a happy face to get dressed and go see your mother!”
“Where is mama?” He asked as his Nanny carried him to his wardrobe.
“She had a very unexpected visitor this morning so sent me to prepare you for breakfast! Now, which color would you like to wear today, Lord Puppy?”
“Hm….” Inuyasha said, tapping one little clawed finger against his chin. “Dis one!”
He pointed up to a red and white set of silk clothes and his Nanny retrieved it with a knowing smile.
“It will look perfect on you. Now, let’s go get your hair combed.
“Awwwww, do I hafta?!”
“YES.”
—————————————————————-
His hair had been tugged and pulled to get out all his sleepy tangles, so the happy face he’d put on right after waking was once again gone as he made his way to the dining room holding Nanny Kasumi’s hand.
She seemed to be in very bright spirits but how could she be? And how could she expect him to find a smile when his good dreams had been ruined, his Mama hadn’t been able to wake him up, and now he’d have to eat quietly while she entertained another stuffy visitor who wouldn’t want to listen while he showed them his collection of cool rocks he found in the garden?
This day was turning out to be a terrible, awful, horrible day.
“Alright Princeling, here we are! Have a good breakfast!”
She bent down and pressed a kiss to his chubby cheek and then shooed him along, and he wiped it off with a ‘feh!’ while she giggled again and walked off to see to other duties.
With a scowl he finished his trek into the dining room, his little golden stare landing on the “unexpected guest” that had kept his mother from him, and his eyes widened in shock.
“BIG BRUDDER!!!!”
He took off and launched himself across the dining room, and Sesshomaru had just enough time to scoot back from the table to give Inuyasha enough room to land in his lap without making a mess of the plates and cups.
“I haven’t seened you in FOREBER!!!” Inuyasha cried, wrapping his arms around Sesshomaru’s neck.
“It has been three weeks. Hardly forever. Your grasp on the passage of time leaves much to be desired.” His brother responded, and though his words were flat and his face was serene as usual, a bright note of something sweet bloomed through his scent.
This was how Inuyasha knew his brother was happy to see him, even when he didn’t seem like he was on the outside.
“Inuyasha it’s not polite to cling at the breakfast table. At least let your brother eat, first.”
He turned big sad, round his on his mother, who pointed to a spot next to Sesshomaru where a little plate covered in food sat waiting.
“Okaaaaay. But I will sit really close to you, okay Big Brudder? So you won’t be sad.”
Sesshomaru cocked one brow, but Inuyasha could see one corner of his mouth trying not to curl up, and he smelled like someone had said something funny.
“Hn.”
Shimmying out of his brother’s lap, Inuyasha settled in front of his plate and finally started filling his very empty tummy.
“No greetings for your mother then?! I’m raising a very ungrateful pup indeed!”
“Sowwy mama! But I see you evwy day, and Big Brudder is never here. And I’m weally weally hungwy.”
“I wouldn’t say never….” Sesshomaru mumbled.
“You could stand to visit more often,” their mother replied, and Sesshomaru snorted, picking up his tea cup and taking a sip.
“There is too much to do. Father’s actions still cause ripples of unrest in even the farthest corners of the West. You would not believe the scum I must stomp down who believe themselves mighty enough to turn against our house. Their misjudgments are easily rectified but the mess they leave in their wake of false promises of revolution take much longer to clean up. Father neglected much more than you and I in his final years. I have much to put to rights.”
“I see. Well, I’m sure you grow tired of hearing how much we miss you, so I will not say it again.”
“I….. do not begrudge your sentiments.”
Inuyasha didn’t understand a lot of what his mother and brother were saying, but he did know that his plate was clean, his belly was full, and he could sit in Sesshomaru’s lap again before he inevitably had to leave.
“Alright I done!” He declared, hopping back up into Sesshomaru’s arms.
“Your appetite grows more and more each time I see you,” he said, “you are growing stronger.”
“Yeah I am! I gonna get real big and strong and I gonna keep mama safe from everyone.”
“That is good. I cannot be here to offer my own protection, so you must train hard to take my place.”
“Where you always goin’ Big Brudder?”
“I must travel far across the West to make sure you are safe,” Sesshomaru said gravely, and visions of adventures hunting down and fighting bad guys danced around in Inuyasha’s head.
He leaned in really close and looked directly into his brother’s eye.
“I wanna go wiff you nest time. I help.”
“Hnnnn…” Sesshomaru said, resettling Inuyasha a more comfortable distance from his face. “You are currently too young to make such travels…. But soon you will need to learn to hunt…”
“I can teach him.” Mama said, but Sesshomaru’s eyes went distant, and Inuyasha thought he smelled a little sad.
“No. I will teach him. I will teach him what father never deigned to teach me.”
“Sesshomaru-“
“I understand his duty to his land far outstripped any other duty he shouldered, but I believe more firmly in balance. Inuyasha,” he said in a deep, commanding voice, and Inuyasha felt helpless to do anything but meet his brother’s hard, golden gaze with his own. “At the start of your fifth year, your training will begin, and will be undertaken… by me.”
“Weally?”
“Yes.”
“Oh fank you Big Brudder!” He said, once more leaping up and wrapping his arms around Sesshomaru’s neck.
His brother wrapped his arms around his back and held him there, even has his voice went even colder.
“This is supposed to be a serious and monumental moment in a pup’s life…”
“But you’ve just made his entire month!”
Glancing down at the silver head nuzzling up under his chin in such excitement, Sesshomaru let his mask slip- just a little- and smiled softly.
“Hn.”

Note
Please ignore this if you have seen it, but I sent in a question a while ago. Maybe a month or so? So I’m just wondering if it was actually sent or if tumblr sent it out into the 5th dimension.
I was hoping to find a couple fics.
The first one is a canon divergent. I’m pretty sure the jewel got broken again. There’s a really emotional scene where InuKag are trying to find a jewel shard, Kags is pregnant and the demon they’re fighting ends up hitting her and causing her to lose the baby. Inu takes her back through the well and leaves her. Somehow he was able to keep her from using the well. They’re mates and she goes into a depression without him. But he eventually comes back and begs for forgiveness.
The second one is an AU slow burn, where Kags is a preschool or kindergarten teacher. Her son is Shippo and Inu’s daughter is also in her class. The kids gets really close and I believe InuKag start meeting up so the kids can hang out. They start falling for each other. The big plot twist is reviled almost at the end and it turns out Kags had shippo and Inu’s daughter. Her father separated the twins at birth without ever telling her. It’s also revealed that Inu and Kags were super wasted one night and ended up in the same hotel with rooms right next door and even though they were with their ex SOs, they ended up sleeping together that night, so Shippo and his daughter are also his and hers. So Inu is excited to get to know his son and Kags is so excited to have a daughter.
Fingers crossed you guys can find them! I’m dying to reread them.
Good Afternoon Nonnie!
We know sending in asks can feel like sending it into the void, but the fic finders are always more than happy to chat about lists and fic searches if you reach out via DMs. When requests have names attached to them, it's much easier for us to reach out and ask for more specifics rather than an ask lingering in the bowels of our inbox. But if you wish for your ask to stay anon you can still message us and let us know and we're not gonna put you on blast, promise.
Some Insight You Didn't Ask For But Since We're Here:
At the moment we have 48 unanswered asks, 10 of which are specific fic searches, and our turn around thus far varies from two days to, ah, well, a year.
Tumblr media
We're sorry about that, but it's just a matter of when the ask came in versus when the mods have time, how much detail we have in the ask, if it's on AO3 and tagged or if we're digging through FFN and mediaminer, and sometimes folks who ask just get kind of lucky and it's a fic a team member has read recently. In this instance, your description of the fics is slightly different from your first ask to this one which actually helped a lot.
For the first fic we think two stories fit the bill, each with about 75% accuracy to your description.

Kagome is a single mom who raised her son on her own since her husband left her. Inuyasha is a single father who cared for his daughter since his wife died. Kagome, a preschool teacher, Inuyasha, a martial arts master, will their kids bring them together?
If these aren't what you were hoping for please reach out to a mod or send in another ask. We aim for 100% fic finding success!

Inu-Mothership Spotlight Saturday: November 12, 2022: Jinenji!
Hello everyone! We at @inu-mothership are especially pleased to bring you this week's Spotlight Saturday fic rec list. This week our members voted, and chose Jinenji!
Jinenji has a special place in many of our hearts as the kind-hearted herbalist who Inuyasha and Kagome befriend early on in the series. He's often portrayed as their friend, but Jinenji gets his share of romantic stories, too!
As always with our character rec lists, we've organized it into two groups, both listed below the cut. First is the section dedicated to Jinenji-specific ship stories (if there's another ship featured prominently, we've included that, too). Then, we present the section dedicated to Gen fics/fics where Jinenji is featured prominently, but not as part of a major ship. We had fun with this one, and hope you find some new stories to enjoy!
Jinenji Romantic Ship Stories
Jinenji/Kagome

Jinenji/Original Character(s)
Jinenji’s Promised Love (K; complete) by AmeliaBlake (FFN)
I realised no one has really mentioned Jinenji, I thought it would be nice to give him someone to love, a sort of beauty and the beast romance. With the recent death of his mother, Jinenji finds himself alone in the world, but his mother made him a promise, would she keep it? is this strangely beautiful girl be the very thing?
Where the Plum Blossoms Fall (M; ongoing) by @smmahamazing

How Does Your Garden Grow? (InuKag; Kagome & Jinenji; M; ongoing) by @dawnrider
An Ingary-esque AU: Kagome, the newest generation of caretakers of the Higurashi House, finally starts to feel like her garden and business is thriving with the help of her friend Jinenji. Their routine is thrown off by the arrival of an injured visitor who does not want to be found…
Jin: A Story of Jinenji (K; complete) by XxMusicxKelseyxX (FFN)
If all half demons have a human period, then wouldn't Jinenji. Enter the world of Jinenji during his quarterly human nights and the secret double life he lives.
Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire (InuKag; M; complete) by @mamabearcat
Inuyasha thought he had an okay life. He was a member of the Nakano Youkai Rescue Crew, a highly regarded part of the local fire force. He had friends, and he lived in an apartment block where nobody hated him. That was all anyone could expect from life, right?
Enter one Higurashi Kagome, his new neighbour. As soon as he met her, his whole concept of his place in the world went topsy turvey. And he wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Because surely a hanyou like him couldn't possibly be deserving of a true mate? But apparently her heart and his soul had their own ideas.
Night Watch (T; ongoing) by @superpixie42
Inuyasha always assumed all hanyou were like him: one human parent, one demon parent, new moon transformation, life of suffering. But during the three years the well is closed, he learns more about his fellow hanyou than he ever expected.
Seeds to Sprouts (Kagome & Jinenji; T; complete) by @lazy8blog
Jinenji, and the people who have had the biggest impact on his life.
The Sins & Virtues of the Sengoku Jidai: Chapter 4: Greed & Generosity: Villagers & Jinenji (T; complete) by @neutronstarchild
In Sengoku Jidai, everyone can be defined by the choices they make. Sometimes those choices lead them to sin, and sometimes to virtue. Here are seven vignettes, where characters’ relationships are defined by their paths. A sin for a virtue, a virtue for a sin.

Note
What Disney AUs do you think suit InuKag best? Personally I think they’re a mix of Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan and Aladdin with a touch of the Little Mermaid sprinkled in. (The Little Mermaid because just imagine Inuyasha mistaking Kikyo for Kagome - i.e. the actual woman who saved his life and plus Kagome has always wanted to be part of Inuyasha’s world lol)
I think you're dead right!
Tumblr media
When it comes to Inukag Disney AUs, Beauty and the Beast is naturally the first one that comes to my mind. I've actually talked about it before, tracing a few parallels between them. I also wrote a little Inukag oneshot called Tale As Old As Time with their similarities in mind.
I know this might seem cliché, but both of them are classic couples. Even the songs Tale As Old As Time and Something There fits Inuyasha and Kagome so perfectly that they're on my personal Inukag Playlist.
Some people have pointed out that Inuyasha remained a half demon while Adam became human in the end and that's why they don't quite like the comparison. This is a valid take, that I understand and respect. To me, however, the difference lies in the fact that Adam was cursed with the beast's appearence. It's a temporary situation that he has to overcome by finding someone who coul love him beyond his appearance, which he did with Belle. That's why changes back to what he has always supposed to be.
Inuyasha, on the other hand, wasn't cursed. He was a half demon and this condition wasn't one he had to overcome, but rather accept and embrace, which he did by finding someone who can love him as a half demon. That's why his appearance stays the same: this was already who he was, but thanks to Kagome he realizes that he doesn't need to change who he is.
And the whole point of Beauty and the Beast was that, yes, Adam became human again, but it was pretty clear Belle would still love him if he hadn't. In the same way, Kagome loves Inuyasha just the way he is. Belle and Kagome are not there to "fix" them, but rather to show them true kindness, friendship and acceptance while they fix themselves. The simple presence of Belle and Kagome into their lives inspires them to become the very best versions of themselves and in turn, Belle and Kagome found in them some things that has always been lacking on their lives: And the whole point of Beauty and the Beast was that, yes, Adam became human again, but it was pretty clear Belle would still love him if he hadn't. In the same way, Kagome loves Inuyasha just the way he is. Belle and Kagome are not there to "fix" them, but rather to show them true kindness, friendship and acceptance while they fix themselves.
The simple presence of Belle and Kagome into their lives inspires them to become the very best versions of themselves and in turn, Belle and Kagome found in them some things that hasve always been lacking on their lives: getting out of their comfort zones, the adventure of a life time and an all consuming love. The lives they had lead so far were fine, but they weren't where they were supposed to be.
That being said, the overall dynamic of both couples is quite similar. The fact that they're unafraid of calling each other out and the way they always give as good as they got make all of their interactions feel like a dance where one is leading while the other follows and then the roles change again and again, in a compelling push and pull, which manifests not only on their actual actions, but also in their bodily language, as represented on the gif above.
Not to mention the "reluctant companions to friends to lovers" journey, Belle and Kagome's intelligence, forgiving nature, nursing personality, optimism and determination to make the best out of every bad situations as well as Adam and Inuyasha's bad attitude, protective instincts, secret heart of gold, self deprecating traits and willingness to put their love interests' happiness before their own. Plus they are all unbelievably stubborn. The relationships are the epitome of balance to me, so complementary that feels inevitable in the most natural, organic way.
Tumblr media
Tarzan feels like a perfect Inukag AU too. You'll Be In My Heart is also on my Inuyasha Playlist. Inuyasha and Tarzan are both simple, wild, lonely souls. And even though they're both physically strong, there's still such a gentle, sweet way about them. They've lead a difficult childhood, having to be though from a very young age in order to survive. And even though they're not particularly "book smart", they're clever in their own interesting way, fast learners who are used to think quick on their (always bare) feet. They also seem to enjoy challenge and fighting and share an (understandably) awkward set of social skills.
Kagome and Jane, on the other hand, are smart and empathetic, perhaps to a fault. I love the way their femininity is portrayed because even though on a superficial level they're the perfect embodiment of what a lady from their respectives time and age should be, they often perform said femininity in an unexpected way, that is so unique of them. They might be a little clumsy and trouble has a way of finding them whenever they are, but my favorite thing is that they learn from Inuyasha and Tarzan as much as they teach them. They're very brave and I admire how they left everything they knew behind to follow their hearts and choose what was right for them.
Last but not least, I can't help but mention their unusual way of locomotion. While Tarzan and Jane will take vine rides together, Inuyasha will often carry Kagome around on his back and these became iconic aspects of the couples. That being said, I want to finish by pointing out that Kagome and Jane gave Inuyasha and Tarzan the humanity they had lost. The relationships are about finding a place to belong.
Tumblr media
Inuyasha and Kagome took "A Whole New World" to "A Whole New Level" (bad pun intended). The meaning is both figurative (they do have very opposite backgrounds) and literal (since they truly are from entire different dimensions). What gets me about this one is that the two couples seem genuinely interested in their partner's lives and the way Aladdin's "transformation" into a fake prince to try and impress Jasmine parallels Inuyasha's desire to become a full demon to protect Kagome, while the girls actually appreciate honesty and like the real version of them way better.
To me, Aladdin and Jasmine are all about the playful, teasing, flirting lighty side of Inukag. They have this "partners in crime" thing going on where they act like a perfectly in sync team, understanding each other with just a look and going with it as if they had been scheeming together for their whole lives and this just screams Inukag. It also helps that the girls can read their boys like a book, knowing from the start they were more than the eyes could see and, for their turn, the boys treated them as equals.
Plus, Aladdin and Inuyasha both had to strugle to pass by, always searching for something that would change their lives for the better and making fun of their opponents. Jasmine and Kagome, on the other hand, have explosive personalities and absolutely refuse to put their fates on the hands of other people than their own. The theme of trust is also very important in the story of both couples.
Tumblr media
I must admit that I never really considered The Little Mermaid before, but you absolutely sold me on it for all of the reasons you explained above, so I won't dive too deep on it. I'd only add that Ariel's voice was what touched Eric the most when she saved him and Kagome's voice literally saved Inuyasha's life countless times.
There's also the "everything you're looking for is right in fron of you" trope. Not that Inuyasha wasn't aware of his feelings for Kagome but it's only in the finale that we get the "we were born for each other" speech. Plus, both Eric and Inuyasha obviously have very strong feelings for Ariel and Kagome during the story, but are ultimately holding back. Eric because he thinks his true love is the mysterious woman who saved him, without knowing said woman is Ariel herself. And Inuyasha because he feels obligated to let Kikyo drag him to hell, since he blames himself for her death.
Choosing to stay and be part of this strange world over the place Ariel and Kagome once called home is also a given. And I won't talk about their almost kisses I won't talk about their almost kisses I won't talk about their almost kisses I won't talk about their almost kisses I won't talk about their almost kis-
One more thing: THEIR ALMOST KISSES!
Now for the ones you haven't mentioned:
Tumblr media
Even though I'll admit Megara has much more in common with Kagura than with Kagome, there's no denying her sassy remarks and sense of humor has Kagome written all over it. Her whole "I Won't Say I'm In Love" bit has peak early Kagome "someone the exact opposite of Inuyasha, that's the perfect guy for me" energy. These girls set camp on the denial station.
Of course, the fact that Megara falls for Hercules and Kagome falls for Inuyasha shows that they have the same taste in men: the hero. Because Hercules is literally Inuyasha.
From being socially excluded because of their supernatural powers and never fitting in to having the chronic need to save the day. Both of them go on a journey that teachs them how to be stronger than they have always been, how to use that strenght to help people, especially the woman they love and that also gives him a place to belong. "I Can Go The Distance" it's also on my Inuyasha Playlist because obviously. Just imagine Toga as Zeus and Izayoi as Era and tell me if it doesn't fit perfectly.
"People always do crazy things when they're in love." Inuyasha throwing himself off a cliff on his human night to save Kagome? Kagome walking on acid just because she knew Inuyasha needed her to hold him? HELLO?!?
Tumblr media
Oh, it's their constant bickering and the circumstances forcing them to work together for me! Naveen's cockiness and selfishness, Tiana's hard working nature and sheer determination... it suits Inukag like a glove.
I do wish Kagome's relationship with her father had the same narrative importance as Tiana's relationship with her father, since they both lost their dads. But alternate universes are the perfect place to explore that, don't you think? And I'd argue that their relationship with their mothers almost make up for it because they're healthy, supportive and comforting in both cases.
"When you find out who you are you'll find out what you need" is just about Inuyasha as it is about Naveen. And the following?
Prince Froggy is a rich little boy
You wanna be rich again?
That ain't gonna make you happy now
Did it make you happy then? NO!
What riches was for Naveen, becoming a full demon was to Inuyasha when he wanted to do it for selfish reasons. Maybe if circumstances were different he would have managed to wish upon the jewel and transform, but even if it worked (which we later find out it wouldn't), he would still be unhappy.
Tiana's one track mind about working hard and opening her restaurant reminds me of Kagome's obssession with her studies. And Naveen giving up his chance to propose because he doesn't want to get in the way of Tiana's dream reminds me of Inuyasha realizing Kagome has other people who need her and all of the times he let her go because he knew it was the best for her. Love has made them generous.
Tumblr media
Guess what? I See The Light? ON MY INUKAG PLAYLIST WHERE IT BELONGS! And don't you dare looking me in the eyes and telling me "you were my new dream" isn't something Inuyasha would have thought about Kagome because for far too long his biggest goal was to become a full demon, but by the end of the story he wanted nothing more than a future with Kagome.
Kagome and Rapunzel are innocent, bubly, magical power users, versatile and have a way to make friends with ease. Inuyasha and Eugene are pretty shady at first, but in a charming, almost comical way and the more you find out about their pasts, the more you know their hearts have always been in the right place.
Sure, Kagome didn't spend her whole life confined in a tower, but she was only fifteen and her family made an excellent job out of shielding her from the ugly face of the world, as a good family should do. Therefore, just like Rapunzel, there was a whole new set of feelings and experiences, good and bad, that she was discovering for the very first time.
For their part, Eugene and Inuyasha saw the girls as obstacles to their goals so they tried to scared both of them off, which only blew on their faces when Rapunzel and Kagome won them over by being reliable and kind enough to take the time to know who they really were, never judging their past mistakes and encouraging them to drop their respective "Flynn Rider"/"I Want to be a Full Demon" facade.
Tumblr media
I won't talk too much about this one either because the Inuyasha fandom has quite extensive Atlantis AU content (especially by @artistefish). I would only repeat myself more and this post is already massive as it is. Just want to say that my favorite thing about it is the reversal gender role, because Inuyasha is Kida and Kagome is Milo. I find it greatly refreshing and aesthetically pleasing.
Tumblr media
If someone could pull the "pretending to be a man so she could take her injured, older relative's place on the army and saving her whole country in the end" stunt off, it's definitely Kagome. There's a fanfic I love called Oblivion by @meggz0rz that has this exact same vibe. Kagome and Mulan would do anything for their families. They're always doing their best to make them proud. And as much as they want to be there for them, sometimes this clashes with what they gotta do.
But I think the greatest thing they have in common is the ingenuity. They know their physical appearance puts them in disadvantage. They're small and they have little to no muscles, so instead of fighting harder they fight smarter, often turning their opponent's weakness against them, be it physical or emotional, and using their surroundings to fashion a creative way out. Mulan's little trick with the fan and Kagome's makeshift blowtorch are just a few examples that come to mind.
That being said, Chang and Inuyasha were born to lead. And they're extremely competent when it comes to battle, but helpless, nervous wrecks where feelings are concerned. They're tough and their fathers left impossible shoes for them to fill, but they're doing their best and deep down they do care. A lot. Mulan and Kagome's families immediate acceptance of Chang and Inuyasha is also something that amuses me to no end.
Plus, they're the blueprint of battle couples. And the bissexual energy they exude is palpable.
Tumblr media
Just hear me out. Kikyo can fucking deliver as Elsa. The role was written for her. And we can have the Kagome and Kikyo as iconic sisters AU to end all the Kagome and Kikyo as iconic sisters AU's.
Anna and Kagome are quite naive in regards to love. They're both helpless romantics, which is an excellent contrast to Kristoff and Inuyasha's more cynical approach of it.
I like how the personalities of these characters clash. I like how Anna and Kagome didn't even consider Kristoff and Inuyasha in a romantic light because they have wrongfully assumed the boys were not the kind of people they would ever fall for (which it's also a nod to their lack of self knowledge).
But my favorite thing is that the love between both couples were built brick by brick. Cultivated in a series of actions that developed not only the relationships but the characters themselves. It didn't come easy, it wasn't given to them on a silver plate. They worked for it together and their happily ever after felt earned, substancial and above all: real.
BONUS: Princesses don't marry kitchen boys and priestesses don't marry half demons... Except when they do. I know this is cheating because originally Anastasia isn't from Disney, but Mickey Mouse bought Fox and technically she is from Disney now, so... sue me.
I could write an entire separate post about this. And I kind of did. Anastasia is a long time hyperfixation of mine and I hope to one day write this Inukag AU myself because the chemistry both couples have is simply out of this world.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: The Lion King, Enchanted, Lady and the Tramp.

No Other Way #16
Next one for the @domaystic challenge. I’m not quitting, dammit. I’m too stubborn and this is giving me so many ideas for my Inu/Kag long fic. So, this one was sort of inspired by someone on here who made a really good point about Inuyasha. Yes, our favorite dog boy always has a hard time with the words but, when it counts, he can be damn near poetic. This is the one where Inuyasha finds the perfect words.
Day 16: Looking Out the Window
Fandom: Inuyasha; Modern AU
Pairing: Inuyasha/Kagome
Rating: G
AO3 I Would Not Hold Them From You
Inuyasha stretched his body on the sofa, relishing the hushed quiet of a lazy rainy Sunday. After the excitement of the previous few days, it seemed like the height of luxury to just sit and do nothing. He never thought that getting married would be such an ordeal. Then again, he had very little knowledge of such things.
Inuyasha had given Kagome and Sango free reign to do whatever they wanted. They just needed to tell him where to go and what to do, he had promised to obey. It was a promise he had kept, by the skin of his gritted teeth. Though, if Sango had ordered him around in that superior tone one more time…
He shook the lingering irritation away. It was over now and in the end–after the ceremony and party and passing a wailing Shippo into his grandmother’s arms for safekeeping until they returned from their honeymoon–Inuyasha was still finding it hard to believe what had happened. His eyes found his new wife through the window, softening as he watched her putter around the jungle of potted plants on their balcony, ensuring each one was able to gain the benefit of a gentle rain.
As Kagome stepped under the awning, Buyo was ready to greet her, twining between her feet as she picked up another pot and moved it into the open. She paused on her way back and stooped to run her fingers over the cat’s back, cooing at the calico in hushed whispers.
Inuyasha smiled. His wife was love incarnate, it shone from within her like a beacon. It fell off of her in radiant waves, enveloping those around in warm affection. Suddenly feeling a slight chill, Inuyasha slipped off the sofa and padded to the partially open patio door, insides warming with every step closer.
He could hear Kagome singing under her breath with the soft patter of rain as accompaniment, hips swishing with the rhythm. The gray cotton shorts fluttered around her upper thighs, flashing him a glimpse of the gentle curve of her backside. He couldn’t go another second without touching her.
He stepped out of the door and caught her hand as Kagome tiptoed out of the rain. Her soft gasp cut off the song as he spun her in a small circle.
“Don’t stop,” Inuyasha whispered as he led her in a slow swaying dance.
She smiled and obliged him, raising her voice a little as she sang out a soft melody. His arm tightened around her waist as they twirled in the confined area, barely managing to miss each other's bare toes with an off beat. It was awkward and messy, nowhere near his prowess from the night before, but it was perfect.
As Kagome finished the last few cords, Inuyasha dipped her down low, pulling a gasp from her plush lips.
“Impressed, wife?” he asked, letting his hand slip down to palm her ass while wagging his eyebrows in a suggestive manner.
Kagome cupped his cheek in her palm and gave him a lingering kiss before pulling away. “Absolutely, husband,” she said in a breathless tone.
Inuyasha’s ears wiggled at her use of the affectionate term.
She chuckled, hand reaching out to grasp one of the soft white triangles in her fingers as he pulled her back onto her feet. “Are they going to do that every time I call you husband?”
They wiggled again as he shrugged and scratched at his warming cheek. “It’s probably just temporary.”
“That’s a shame.” she replied with a frown, letting her hand fall. “It’s adorable.”
Inuyasha snorted. “Keh, adorable? Don’t make me sound like such a wimp.”
Kagome rolled her eyes and turned back to grab the few remaining small potted plants from the shelves. “Come on, it’s not a bad thing. I’m your wife, I’ll always think you’re adorable.”
“Sure, sure,” he said before grabbing one of the larger palms from the ground. “But adorable wasn’t exactly the kind of feeling I was going for here.”
She laughed and placed the pots in the rain. “Oh really? What were you going for with those smooth moves?”
Inuyasha set his burden down and tossed her a fangy grin. “They were pretty smooth, huh?”
“Very,” she replied with a throaty chuckle. “Still can’t believe you took dance lessons before the wedding, or that Miroku survived as your partner.”
“It wasn’t that bad. He was oddly supportive and managed to keep the perverted comments to a minimum,” he said with a bemused expression. “Besides, it was worth every awkward second to see that look on your face.”
“Well, it surprised me, that’s all.”
“Keh, that was kinda the whole point, ‘Gome.” Inuyasha led her back under shelter, rocking her into another swaying rhythm.
Kagome’s eyes narrowed with amused suspicion as he gave her a spin. “You like dancing.”
Inuyasha shrugged and pulled her back against his chest. “What’s not to like? I get to touch you, hold you, and as an extra bonus…” he purred in a rumbling tone close to her ear. “It turns you on.”
Her breath hitched, cheeks heating to a fetching pink. “Oh, you think you’re so clever with that nose of yours.”
“I am,” he replied with arrogant laughter. “Besides, I’ll use any advantage I can get to make you happy.”
“I am, you know that, right?” Her small hands fisted in his shirt and she met his admiring gaze with sincere blue eyes. “I’m really, really, happy.”
Inuyasha grinned and ran the backs of his fingers along her soft cheek. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she replied with a shy smile. “The last few days have been incredible, like a fairytale. Thank you, husband.”
His ears wiggled again and Kagome did a piss poor job of hiding her laughter.
“Cut it out.” He poked her in the side. “In any case, I had very little to do with the last few days. You wanna thank someone, thank Sango. That woman is a force to be reckoned with.” He dropped his voice to a conspiratorial whisper, “I think I saw the caterer piss his pants.”
“You did not,” Kagome said in a scandalized tone.
“I’m tellin, ya. Sango is scary when she needs to be.”
She giggled, shaking her head at his teasing. “She can be one intimidating person, I’ll give you that, and I have thanked her, repeatedly, because…wow. But you were amazing too, Inu.  You were so helpful and never once complained. You surprised me with the dancing. You even took Shippo the night before.”
“Keh. Trust me, I was happy to take him,” Inuyasha replied in an exasperated tone while rolling his eyes. “It was the only way I could keep Miroku from getting a stripper for the bachelor party. You were doing me a favor.”
“Still,” she said in a serious tone. They had abandoned their dance and were simply holding each other in the midst of the summer storm. “You did so much, I just feel like I fell a bit short.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” he asked, confused.
Kagome ducked from his probing stare. “Nothing, Forget it. I’m just being silly.”
“‘Gome.” Inuyasha caught her chin between his thumb and forefinger, forcing her to meet his eyes. “Baby, you have given me everything, a home, family, friends, a future. That’s all because of you.”
She was already shaking her head, tossing her silky black tresses back and forth across her shoulders. “No, Inuyasha. You’ve worked so hard. You‘ve made your future your own. You–”
He cut her off with his lips, kissing her until her knees trembled and she melted against him. When he finally pulled away, she was left gasping for breath. Inuyasha nuzzled against her, trying to get his racing heart under control.
“Look at me,” he said and her hazy gaze sharpened on his face. “The future is ours, Kagome. It’s you and me, wife.”
Kagome gave him a dazzling smile. “You and me, husband.”
Inuyasha’s ears wiggled as he leaned down, breathing ‘forever’ against her lips.
EDIT: If anyone is curious, in my head Kagome is singing My Girl 🥰
