From Heaven to Earth, From Earth to Heaven

Characters: Inuyasha and Kagome

Summary: Festivals and rituals might be fun, but Inuyasha and Kagome make their own blessings.

Written for the 2022 @inu-spiration Solstice Reverse Bang and inspired by an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork by @mamabearcatfanart.

The rocks were known as the Wedded Rocks, a stony husband and wife who framed the rising sun perfectly on summer mornings. On the night of the summer solstice, the villagers linked the rocks together using a rope woven for the occasion by the women of the village. The rope was supposed to represent both the peaceful union of man and wife and the peaceful union of the spiritual and earthly realms and, at sunrise after a night of feasting and dancing, all of the married couples in the village waded into the sea, walking between the rocks to bless their relationship for the coming year.

It sounded ridiculous to Inuyasha, but Kagome seemed fascinated. She might have been happy because the story reminded her of the fact that they were now a married couple themselves, but he doubted that was the only reason for her curiosity. And she definitely wasn’t thinking about the spiritual and earthly realms. No, she was thinking about the Feudal Era and her modern world and the connection, lost for three long and miserable years, that had reformed just long enough to give them time to find each other again.

The breeze was just light enough not to chill with the direct sunlight. They sat in peaceful silence as they waited for the waitstaff to come take their drink order.

Until both their phones started buzzing from their respective pockets.

“Let me just turn…”

“Sorry, I usually turn it…” They caught each other’s gaze and grinned at how they were talking over one another. The smile dropped off of Sango’s face when she saw who was calling. “It’s Kagome…” she said with an apologetic wince.

“Odd… It’s Inuyasha. He never calls me…” Both of them grimaced at the same time and turned in their chairs to answer their phone with some semblance of discretion. “What is it? I’m out with Sango…”

“Kagome, is this an emergency because…”

Both of them fell silent as they listened to their friend on the phone, eyes wide and mouths hanging just slightly open. Sango blinked a few times, slowly turning toward Miroku to find he was looking at her in equal shock.

Matsuri Fireworks

'Whatever, Kagome, you pick.' Oh no, she's cute...

Woke up at 3am last night and couldn't get back to sleep, and saw this cute picture of a girl in a koi yukata. So I had to sketch Kagome in it and give her an excuse to wear it. It's actually Autumn here in Australia, but Japan will be gearing up for Summer Festivals soon. Kakigori, shaved ice topped with sweet syrup, condensed milk, ice cream or yoghurt, and fruit, is a favourite summertime treat.
