I recently came across my few remaining 5×4 sheets of the original Acros 100; expired 12/2016 but as I’d stored it in the cellar at a constant, cool temperature I was pretty confident it would be just fine so decided against making any exposure adjustments to allow for age. Documenting Failure: shot with my Intrepid Mk3 Super Angulon 5.6/90 on North Sea Island Föhr on the one day of fairly decent weather. I attempted to get both foreground and the hay rolls in focus by some front tilt and some front/back swing to lay the focus pane across the front of the row if hay rolls. Didn’t fully work out... sharpness is not on the nearest roll. Processing was off too: the sheet got dislodged in my Jobo 2509n reel, first of the kind, but was limited to a corner (not visible in this raw scan). These photos are from my series on rural life from the eyes of a Southern queer woman. It’s a visual story about growing up as a weirdo, a punk rock skater girl, and budding artist in a small Southern town; getting away, coming back, and eventually figuring out how to exist as myself while feeling completely alien in this Red State. It’s about learning to love your neighbor even when you have little in common, it’s about acceptance and love, it’s about trying to understand the “other.”

Here is another foray into my large format journey and probably the second image I’m proud of coming from my Intrepid 4x5 MKII and shot on Fuji Velvia 50.⠀ ⠀ I spent hours again wandering around the maples searching for scenes that called out to me. The area I ended up in was a truly beautiful area, but it was incredibly difficult to find something to create anything from. I shared the area with another photographer for an hour or so and wandered back and forth in the trees searching and listening to the leaves.⠀ ⠀ It was incredible to be sitting covered in the Fall colors while at the base of the massive cliffs and surrounded by everything that is Zion. In a way I crossed paths with this fallen and dead branch covered with more fallen leaves that were surrounded with me in this area. Seems fitting that I called it “Crossing Paths”. ⠀ ⠀ I made some simple mistakes with this image, but in the end it still turned out rather well and I’m happy with it. My love with film is growing. While I've had my share of mistakes along the way, it was expected. Over the past year I've managed to expose around 10 sheets of 4x5 film on my @Intrepidcamera MKII. ⠀ ⠀ I've traveled from the badlands of Utah to the rivers of Idaho and most recently to @Zionnps where this shot is from. Some may wonder why shoot film and why even shoot large format film. It's slow. It's cumbersome. It's frustrating at times. It can even be stressful in my experience when starting out.⠀ ⠀ This image is the first image I feel is a legitimate start to me crawling out of that rut. I wandered the canyon of Zion for hours this day. Thinking. Exploring. Searching. Looking. I found this. It spoke to me. It's the first film photograph that I'm proud of.
