I have this fic idea in my head where Nika’s been secretly dating this Spanish intl footballer for a while now and their relationship goes blown wide after a kiss

wc: 660 warnings: established relationship, secret relationship going public, fluffy, nika being a sweetheart parings: nika muhl x fem!football/soccer player!reader

You and Nika found yourselves cuddle up on your couch before you had to get ready to leave for your game. The time you had together was slowly running out. "Nika, love, I've got to go soon."

She groaned and forced herself closer to you, if that was even possible. Her arms were slung lazily around your torso and her head was nuzzled against your neck. "Do you have to?"

"Unfortunately, yes." You kissed the top of her head and ran your cool fingers along her back underneath her shirt. She shivered at your touch and placed a gentle kiss on your neck. "But you'll get to see me play, and I'll be back as soon as I can be."

She sighed and picked her head up to look at you. You pecked her lips and she had a lopsided grin on her face. She placed a kiss on the tip of your nose and you smiled.

"You're gonna do great, bebo." She peppered your cheeks with small kisses and you giggled.

You mumbled a quiet thank you before Nika finally got up and let you get ready.

"Y/N Y/L/N with the ball, an excellent run down the pitch! Passes it over to number 9, back to Y/L/N." The commentator called out. Your heart was racing as you dribbled down the field.

"A one-on-one with a defender, and... she breaks past her! She's got a clear shot on goal-" It took only a second for you to compose yourself before shooting, the ball flying to the top right corner of the goal and hitting the back of the net. "And she scores! The overtime winner!"

Your team came sprinting over to you and you got hoisted into the air. This was the game that was pushing you to the finals, and you had carried the team there. The crowd cheered for you, but the only person on your mind was Nika.

She always tried to sit somewhere near your bench when she watched your games, she wanted to be as close to you as possible. You got back over to the bench and your eyes darted around the stands, trying to spot her.

"Y/N!" You heard her distinct accent and turned in that direction. Your face lit up when you saw her and you ran over. She leaned over the barrier and you stood on your toes as she grabbed your face and kissed you.

You hesitated for a second, knowing that your once private relationship would be the talk of the football and basketball world for a bit, but you didn't care. You won and your girl was here with you to celebrate.

When you arrived back home you resumed laying on the couch together, this time Nika beneath you as your head rested comfortably on her chest. She was running her fingers through her hair while scrolling on her phone, and you were close to drifting off to sleep when you felt her stop.

You groaned and looked up at her. "Why'd you stop?"

"Look." She held out her phone for you to see. It was a picture of the two of you from the game. Someone captured the moment you kissed, and while it warmed your heart to have it saved as a memory, it also scared you a bit to be public.

Nika saw the look in your eyes and she put her phone down to cup your face in her hand. "Something wrong?"

You shrugged a little. "Just.. worried about what people will say now that they know."

She frowned at you and kissed your forehead. "It doesn't matter what they say. You're mine and I'm yours, and no one will change that."

You melted at her words and couldn't help the smile that formed on your face. "I love you." You muttered before pressing your lips against hers.

She hummed and whispered, "I love you," against your lips.

Thea, I spent Christmas chatting up a British actor (current family connection) so seeing as there are 11.5 actors on that island I tried to gather the dirt on everyone I could according to your old man agenda. He's small time, but works quite steadily in TV and theater, and HE WORKED WITH MICHAEL SHEEN. Nothing exciting to report, sad to say. Apparently he was quiet and private on set, very polite, that's about it 😒 Sorry about that. BUT HIS FRIENDS WORKED WITH DAVID TENNANT ON PLAYS. Again, no dirt or details 😕 But he was described in less general terms at least, as very witty, charming and ready to mingle as far as his family schedule allows. But family always comes first. He also made a point to say that DT commands the stage. He also briefly worked with Hiddleston if you're interested and says he's very genuine if a bit pretentious, like, he means well and it's all genuine for him but comes off a bit too public school to some. Idk anything about him, haven't even watched Loki yet. And he also had a job where he met Stephen Fry, but was too afraid of him and his treasure status to talk much, perfectly lovely though he said. No Hugh Laurie (whom I also love). So remembering your discourse about lack of awards for your favorite old men I asked him about that, and he looked at me strangely, like seriously? It was difficult for him to grasp that DT and MS might be treated unfairly 😁 Couldn't blame him. After several cocktailes he became more chatty and after a couple of hours I came away with basically this. An idea that someone has an agenda against DT was still laughable for him, and I couldn't interest him much in the fact that DT was never nominated for a Bafta 😏. But he said that there is a bit of an odd complex in the British biz about actors who tried to crack the US but didn't become huge stars like Cumbersome or Loki, like some do see them as a bit of second rate compared to the lucky ones. You should either not try at all, never go to H-wood, or you come back the winner, a proper intl star. If you tried and failed, or simply worked as a jobbing actor there, then even if you are liked better than Sherlock or Loki, you still have a whiff of something amateurish about you. Like, there are grumbles against big actors "selling out" to H-wood but at the same time it is seen as a stamp of approval from the big boys and it tickles the national pride organ. Hope it helps. 🙂

Dyyying laughing!! thank you for your valuable contribution to old British man deuxmoi. This is so consistent with their vibes, like Michael has always said he’s not fun on set (except if you’re David Tennant or Lizzy Caplan) and like of course David is nice and charming to everyone.

That’s a fair explanation of the awards thing but I actually don’t think the awards shows are out to get Michael but I do think they want to hunt David for sport due to his doctor who popularity

@frostedcanid Gundo vom Trienzbachtal was indeed a bit short of an ear! It didn't keep him from making intl. champion + a couple of national winner titles from norway and sweden in 89-90. believe he also placed in german nationals before he was imported here

it looks a bit silly when we're used to (at least hearing about) the pomp of modern shows, but this is the sort of defect a dog really should be able to pass with imo. and i think it made his schutz/ipo titles look p badass

A collection of some faves of mine reduced to "this one thing" that has happened in their careers :

Choi Eun Hee - the kidnapping by NK. like. I get it, it's something really crazy and evil allat. LETS TALK ABOUT HER MOVIES OK she's the reason your faves even exist

Ha Hee Ra - being Choi Soo Jong's wife. Like, she was the youngest Daesang Winner until Kim Hee Sun in 1998? She was a wonderful actress in the 90s and the fact that we kept on reducing her to Choi Soo Jong's wife literally made her go do those daily dramas and do all that weird as hell acting. If we would have respcted her a bit more and gave her more daring and interesting roles like the ones that Kim Hee Ae and Kim Hye Soo get all the time, she would've been on a different level nowadays.

Same goes to Shin Ae Ra tbh, but she has had a less prolific career than Hee Ra, and wasn't really always known to be a specifically good actress. But SAME

Fin.K.L. - "Lee Hyori's girl group" especially in intl fan spaces. But they were the first girl group to win a Daesang in history and yes they deserve stans and love for their very diverse music catalogue.

Mini Review:

I will be honest: I am still reading Church of Thieves and because of that I will review what I have read so far. I will do a fuller review once I finish the book. Church of Thieves opens up with Mother Sienna's death, which just ends up opening a can of worms and sets the motions for what is to come.

IQ Malcom does a fantastic job with making us the reader feel the pain of the characters and have us questioning why all this is all happening to them.

Church of Thieves is a fast-paced read, which I really appreciate since I have been having the worst time focusing lately due to my ADHD. I am looking forward to learning more about this world and the fingers of the church. As of now, I just landed on a oh crap moment and I need to go pick up my book to find out what is going to happen next since I had to put my book down at 3 AM this morning to go to sleep.

Hi Laya :) I was wondering if I could ask you for some book recs for some NZ YA to look for when I'm in Aotearoa next month. anything set in NZ would be wonderful and I'd love to try a few Māori authors. and I know you live on the North Island but if you know any good bookshops worth a visit in Christchurch or Dunedin, I'd love to hear about them ^.^ hope you're well!

Honestly I'm not super familiar with a large chunk of NZ YA because I think a lot of what I see is by white authors and/or not queer so it's often not what I'd most like to read - and also the YA skews more to what an intl audience would consider MG. And then some I have read I just don't like lmao. so I don't know how helpful this is.......but the first things that come to mind, from Māori or Pasifika authors:

Flight of the Fantail by Steph Matuku (she has a few other MG ish ones)

Whiti Hereaka has some YA as well, it's been quite a few years since I read them

Na Viro by Gina Cole I think is adult but I've seen it sorted as YA a couple times and it feels YA-ish?

Charlie Tangaroa & The Creature From The Sea by T K Roxborough is def more on the MG end, I enjoyed it tho!

Dawn Raid by Pauline Smith - haven't read this but keep meaning to, possibly MG-ish

Some other places to browse that might be helpful?

-Anything from Huia Publishers is great, though it's mostly MG or Adult (....almost everything I mentioned above is from Huia)

-hookedonbooksnz is a NZ YA review site (reviews by teens) - I think the site is down atm? but I linked the twitter

-the sapling for news & reviews of childrens books, it's just starting up again from a year's hiatus

-the SJV awards has a youth novel category (there's a longlist at the top of each winners page, & 2021, 2022, annoying to navigate but includes indie/selfpub also)

-also checking out the NZCYA winners and nominees is a good place to look! (having said that I'm struggling to find anywhere that has all the longlists)

Some of my fav slightly older (like some from when I was a kid haha - and they're all pakeha as far as I know) authors are Elizabeth Knox (esp Dreamhunter), Karen Healey (The Shattering, When We Wake) Fleur Beale (esp Juno of Taris), Maurice Gee (esp Salt and Halfmen of O), Brian Falkner (esp Tomorrow Code) - you might already know about them on account of them being around for ages and idk how all of them aged, but I loved them a lot! All are set or partially set here

I am originally from the south island (and am here currently)! I know of Scorpio Books in chch that's been around a long time! There's definitely a bunch more but I don't know anything more than you can find out by googling, I don't tend to go to bookstores when I've been there recently unfortunately haha

The competition took place on Saturday night in #NewOrleans, #Louisiana and featured 84 contestants from around the world. According to #Deadline, Gabriel earned her bachelor’s degree in in #FashionDesign with a Minor in Fibers from the #UniversityofNorthTexas. The 28-year-old also is the CEO of he own sustainable clothing brand. Gabriel survived several eliminations before making it to the Top 5. During that round, contestants were each asked a question. This year, the Miss Universe pageant changed its rules to include contestants who were mothers or married women. According to #CNN, Gabriel was asked what other changes she would make. "For me, I would like to see an age increase because I am 28 years old. And that is the oldest age to compete. And I think it's a beautiful thing. My favorite quote is 'if not now, then when?' Because as a woman, I believe age does not define us. It's not tomorrow, it's not yesterday -- but it's now.
