If you're making an official phone call, for example calling to make an appointment, enquiring after a flat, hiring a service etc. that type of call, do you begin the call by introducing yourself?

I'm curious to see this because I lived in another country and had a brain fart and accidentally began a call by introducing myself, like I would in my home country, and the recipient sounded very amused and I knew it was weird and it really is because the service person will do absolutely nothing with this knowledge.

What can be the obstacle of Bangladesh Starlink?

BTRC, the regulatory body of the telecommunication sector, is collecting opinions on a draft guideline prepared to finalize the policy of satellite-based internet services in Bangladesh. In recent times, there has been a lot of talk about Starlink in the media of Bangladesh. The youth community has also taken up the matter with great joy. Because internet users never like poor internet service.

Satellite-based Internet service Starlink has been trying to enter the Bangladesh market for three years. During that time they contacted the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) twice. When BIDA reported the matter to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), BTRC was initially disinterested in Starlink. In 2023, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited took BTRC's approval to test Starlink's technology. Some Starlink technology came to Bangladesh in July of that year for testing. The download speed of Starlink Internet in the test is 150 megabytes per second. Meanwhile, Starlink added the name of Bangladesh to the new coverage on its website. It was then stuck on surveillance and national security issues. In the meantime, in the turbulent times of this year, that matter was also suppressed. However, this month, BIDA has started negotiations again.

Hey do y'all remember several years ago when we were all freaking out about net neutrality being overturned? Well despite net neutrality's win in 2024, a federal court just overturned it.

For those who aren't aware, net neutrality is the simple principle that companies like Verizon and Comcast should treat all web traffic equally – not pick and choose based on who is willing to pay more or who they like best. Big Tech companies obviously don’t like that – which is why they spent millions lobbying against it over the years.

Now, these megacorporations will be able to seize control back over our Internet. The likely result? Throttled access to streaming services, monopolistic pricing that cuts out competition, and a slower, walled off, and less free Internet for all of us.

And unfortunately, rulings like this will only get more common now that the Supreme Court has overturned the “Chevron deference” – giving judges, rather than qualified public servants, a blank check to toss out protections like net neutrality, environmental safeguards, or food safety standards.

When Trump’s FCC repealed net neutrality back in 2017, they gave big corporations total control over our Internet – putting free and open access at risk.

Internet providers responded by exploiting their newfound power to speed up certain websites, and slow down – or even block – others. They failed to provide crucial Internet infrastructure in rural areas, low-income communities, and communities of color. They even slashed firefighters’ Internet access during severe wildfires.

But over 126,000 people spoke out and we were able to reinstate net neutrality – until now.
