Tell me more about the worst things about the rationalists? The point about “you are experiencing a feeling as though you’re having an insight” (sorry don’t have your exact wording in front of me) is sort of giving me a light bulb moment re: their whole thing
so... the answer is at least kind of "yes, i can do that", but in attempting to answer your question i found myself writing several thousand words of explanation about who i think "rationalists" even describes anymore/ever, why i've encountered them and what my background is, etc, so if you'd like to write back clarifying your own knowledge of/level of interaction with internet rationalism that might help me cut out some of the thousands of words of historical context. regardless i'll think about it and try to figure out which takes i think i'm actually qualified to air in public/which will be meaningful to anyone less immersed in weird rat history inside baseball than i am

going to be honest elon taking over twitter JUST as i finished my university course on national and international media policy is some unreal shit
#favourite course ive taken hands down got to talk to people in charge of broadcasting authority and the people who#made the acts that decide what is and is not appropriate to appear in film and or broadcast#we fucking!!! talked to the dude who was the chief censor until recently#hes the guy who. when the chch massacre happened had to be in charge of preparing the regulation that outlawed distribution or posession#of the livestream of the massacre#and detailed the nightmare process he and the rest of the people who do classification for video media in the country#they managed to get it out without loopholes two days after the massacre which lead to a buncha white supremacists#who distributed the material being done by the nz legal system#our lecturer also gave us insight into the christchurch call and the very very terrifying lack of international regulations around#social media and internet based media intermediaries#and what they complied with for fear of punishment vs what an actual policy with repercussions would look like#we also got to study the collapse of our shortlived public service broadcasting channels#and find the reason why they failed so severely (labour were spineless neolibs who made. the worst possible choice about how it was rub#and then when the nats came in they scrapped it because absolutely no right wing party in this country and many others#like free broadcast or free information paid by the state as it isnt profitable for them)#can you tell i kind of want to go into this sector of media#i want so badly to help critique research and make policies that will reduce extremism and misinformation on the internet#and have media conglomerates face repercussions instead of individuals who are given the chance to cause this harm#because those platforms let them do that and don't do anything about it

Responsive Design: A Must Have for Modern Websites
In today's digital era, a website is the face of your business, often serving as the first point of interaction with potential customers. With the rapid growth of mobile and tablet use, having a website that looks good only on a desktop is no longer sufficient. Enter responsive design—a critical component of website development that ensures your site performs well across all devices. For any business looking to succeed online, partnering with a website development company or a digital marketing agency to implement a responsive design is not just an option; it's a necessity. Here’s why responsive design is a musthave for modern websites.
 1. Enhances User Experience Across Devices
A responsive website automatically adjusts its layout, images, and text to fit any screen size, whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer. This adaptability ensures that users have a seamless experience regardless of the device they are using. A positive user experience (UX) is crucial for retaining visitors and reducing bounce rates. When users can easily navigate your website, find information quickly, and enjoy a visually appealing layout, they are more likely to stay longer and engage with your content. By working with a digital marketing and advertising agency to create a responsive website, you cater to the needs of all users, improving satisfaction and encouraging repeat visits.
 2. Improves Search Engine Rankings
Responsive design is not just about user experience; it also plays a significant role in search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines like Google prioritize websites that are mobilefriendly, meaning a responsive design can improve your website's rankings. When you invest in responsive website development, you are also investing in better visibility on search engines. This is especially important as mobile searches continue to outnumber desktop searches. By optimizing your website for all devices, you make it easier for search engines to crawl and index your content, leading to improved rankings and more organic traffic.
 3. Reduces Maintenance Costs and Time
A responsive website eliminates the need for multiple versions of the same site, such as separate desktop and mobile versions. Managing a single, responsive site is far more costeffective and timeefficient than maintaining multiple versions. With a responsive design, you can update content, images, and other elements in one place, ensuring consistency across all devices. Partnering with a website development company that specializes in responsive design means fewer resources spent on maintenance, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your digital marketing strategy.
 4. Boosts Conversion Rates
A welldesigned, responsive website can significantly boost conversion rates. When users have a consistent experience across all devices, they are more likely to trust your brand and complete desired actions, whether it’s filling out a contact form, signing up for a newsletter, or making a purchase. A digital marketing agency can help you create a responsive design that strategically places calls to action (CTAs) and key information where it’s most accessible, increasing the chances of conversion. By providing a frictionless experience, you reduce the barriers that often prevent users from taking the next step.
 5. Supports Digital Marketing Efforts
Responsive design is integral to any digital marketing strategy. Whether you’re running payperclick (PPC) campaigns, social media advertising, or email marketing, your website is the hub where traffic is directed. A nonresponsive website can negatively impact the performance of these campaigns by causing high bounce rates and low engagement. A digital marketing and advertising agency understands the importance of having a responsive website to support these efforts, ensuring that users who land on your site have a positive experience, leading to higher engagement and better campaign performance.
 6. Adapts to Future Trends and Technologies
The digital landscape is always evolving, with new devices, screen sizes, and user behaviors constantly emerging. A responsive design is inherently flexible and adaptable, allowing your website to remain relevant as new trends and technologies develop. By implementing responsive design, you futureproof your website, ensuring it stays compatible with the latest devices and standards. This adaptability is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge in an everchanging online environment.
 7. Provides a Competitive Advantage
In a crowded digital marketplace, standing out from the competition is essential. A responsive website gives you a competitive edge by providing an optimal user experience, enhancing SEO, and supporting your digital marketing efforts. Many businesses still overlook the importance of responsive design, so by investing in it, you position your brand as modern, userfocused, and ahead of the curve. A digital marketing agency can help you leverage this advantage, making sure your website attracts and retains customers better than your competitors.
Conclusion: Make Responsive Design a Priority
Responsive design is not just a trend—it’s a necessity for modern websites. It enhances user experience, improves search engine rankings, reduces maintenance costs, boosts conversion rates, and supports digital marketing efforts. By collaborating with a website development company or a digital marketing and advertising agency, you can create a responsive website that meets the needs of today’s users and adapts to future trends.
Make responsive design a priority in your website development strategy and reap the benefits of a site that performs well on all devices, providing a seamless experience for every visitor.

The urge to create smth more elaborate/decorative from the original base design vs both the desire to keep it simple enough to draw repeatedly and the need to have it read clearly, all while keeping it distinct and recognizable 🙃
#aka I have a couple of ideas for comics involving canon ponies and I'm trying to nail down something a little more unique#but also recognizable to the source material; all while remaining easy to read; easy to draw; and being appealing#all for the sake of only two? three?? jokes so far LMAO#I still don't know if I can run the browser and krita at the same time without knocking out the internet lmao#idk why it does it but boy does it ever lately#it's. annoying. I want to be more productive#that and I've got a massive backlog of videos to tackle still#that are admittedly more for listening to than properly watching; and are usually perfect for smth to listen to while drawing#good news is that the most expensive the exact model of adapter I have on this computer is only around $30!#bad news is that I Do Not Have anywhere close to $30!! not to mention I'd have to pay the guy™ to install it for me#and idk what he'd ask for in the vein of a service fee... also I still want that different antenna that I can move instead of just#screwing into the back and hoping for the best; it still screws in mind you but the ports are attached to cords#that are attached to a base that holds the antennae; so that I might move it around a little#that's around $20; at least for the model I looked at. tho I'd also have to check to make sure the parts are compatible#luckily I could probably just ask the guy; and if I have enough on hand I could probably buy one from him since he sells stuff like that to#oh yeah. also on the shortlist is external storage. I need at least as much as my computer can actually hold for backup purposes: 2TB#and I want more later so that I can actually maybe have less shit on my computer and more in appropriate places lol#someday I want a newer better computer actually. tho ideally we'd have abandoned this rotted log of a house by then...#I have other plans and needs but these tags are getting too long as it is lol

I'm very curious about something and so I'm making a poll about it obvs lol
If you're making an official phone call, for example calling to make an appointment, enquiring after a flat, hiring a service etc. that type of call, do you begin the call by introducing yourself?
For example: Hi, my name is X and I'm calling to make an appointment.
I'm curious to see this because I lived in another country and had a brain fart and accidentally began a call by introducing myself, like I would in my home country, and the recipient sounded very amused and I knew it was weird and it really is because the service person will do absolutely nothing with this knowledge.

Why you shouldn’t support the upcoming game Black Myth: Wukong
Simply put, the creators behind Black Myth: Wukong are raging misogynists.
Founders and creatives of the studio have:
Joked about former female employees hypothetically doing prostitution
Used suggestive/objectifying/derogatory imagery & phrasing in their hiring flyers (under the cut), e.g. “In addition to hookup buddies, we promise to provide more thoughtful services” , “fatties fuck off”, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Written entire think pieces on how video games don’t need female players or developers, how women are biologically inclined towards “softer” modes of gaming than men (there’s also a bit of homophobia mixed in through language such as “fuck sissies”), how some things should just be made for men, etc. “Fuck sissies, fuck tragic love stories, fuck moon-lit peach blossoms and flute-playing scholars! You don't need the reverse motivation of female players, you don't need to take care of those worms who just want to date chicks. Some things are just for men, their depression, their anger, their pain...”
Made numerous sexually explicit (& honestly incel-like) comments including ones about a female character in Black Myth: Wukong, e.g. “once you get used to this [character design] you can jerk off to it”, etc.
Boasted about how they’re losing followers, who must be women
To no one’s surprise, when people criticise the studio online, they’re met with vitriol about how they’re hypersensitive feminists, too politically correct, etc.
Chinese women have been YELLING non-stop on social media about how bad it is so it’s pretty depressing to see that a lot of non-Chinese gamers, even after reading an IGN article covering the situation, are apathetic. I get that a lot of people are excited about the novelty of a soulslike game based on Chinese mythology, but do you really want to support a studio that actively contributes towards and benefits from misogynistic gaming culture?
Talking about separating the artist from their art is bullshit if you're financially supporting them. Boycott! Pirate!
Here are some sources if you want to see detailed translations, learn more about the situation as well as the misogynistic gaming culture at large China:

An open letter to @staff
I already submitted this to Support under "Feedback," but I'm sharing it here too as I don't expect it to get a response, and I feel like putting in out in public may be more effective than sending it off into the void.
The recent post on the Staff blog about changing tumblr to an algorithmic feed features a large amount of misinformation that I feel staff needs to address, openly and honestly, with information on where this data was sourced at the very least.
Claim 1: Algorithms help small creators.
This is false, as algorithms are designed to push content that gets engagement in order to get it more engagement, thereby assuring that the popular remain popular and the small remain small except in instances of extreme luck.
This can already be seen on the tumblr radar, which is a combination of staff picks (usually the same half-dozen fandoms or niche special interests like Lego photography) which already have a ton of engagement, or posts that are getting enough engagement to hit the radar organically. Tumblr has an algorithm that runs like every other socmed algorithm on the planet, and it will decimate the reach of small creators just like every other platform before it.
Claim 2: Only a small portion of users utilize the chronological feed.
You can find a poll by user @darkwood-sleddog here that at the time of writing this, sits at over 40 THOUSAND responses showing that over 96 percent of them use the chronological feed*. Claiming otherwise isn't just a misstatement, it's a lie. You are lying to your core userbase and expecting them to accept it as fact. It's not just unethical, it's insulting to people who have been supporting your platform for over a decade.
Claim 3: Tumblr is not easy to use.
This is also 100% false and you ABSOLUTELY know it. Tumblr is EXTREMELY easy to use, the issue is that the documentation, the explanations of features, and often even the stability of the service is subpar. All of this would be very easy for staff to fix, if they would invest in the creation of walkthroughs and clear explanations of how various site features work, as well as finally fixing the search function. Your inability to explain how your service works should not result in completely ignoring the needs and wants of your core long-term userbase. The fact that you're more willing to invest in the very systems that have made every other form of social media so horrifically toxic than in trying to make it easier for people to use the service AS IT WORKS NOW and fixing the parts that don't work as well speaks volumes toward what tumblr staff actually cares about.
You will not get a paycheck if your platform becomes defunct, and the thing that makes it special right now is that it is the ONLY large-scale socmed platform on THE ENTIRE INTERNET with a true chronological feed and no aggressive algorithmic content serving. The recent post from staff indicates that you are going to kill that, and are insisting that it's what we want. It is not. I'd hazard to guess that most of the dev team knows it isn't what we want, but I assume the money people don't care. The user base isn't relevant, just how much money they can bring in.
The CEO stated he wanted this to remain as sort of the last bastion of the Old Internet, and yet here we are, watching you declare you intend to burn it to the ground.
You can do so much better than this.
Response to the Update
Under the cut for readability, because everything said above still applies.
Tumblr media
I already said this in a reblog on the post itself, but I'm adding it to this one for easy access: people read it that way because that's what you said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Staff considers the main feed as it exists to be "outdated," to the point that you literally used that word to describe it, and the main goals expressed in this announcement is to figure out what makes "high-quality content" and serve that to users moving forward.
People read it that way because that is what you said.
*The final results of the poll, after 24 hours:
Tumblr media
136,635 votes breaks down thusly:
An algorithm based feed where I get "the best of tumblr." @ 1.3% (roughly 1,776 votes)
Chronological feed that only features blogs I follow. @ 95.2% (roughly 130,077 votes)
This doesn't affect me personally. @ 3.5% (roughly 4,782 votes)

T-Mobile Continues Attempted Robbery Against Former Customers
Despite a promise to send a long deserved refund check for crappy home internet service, Bellevue-based T-Mobile continues to drag their feet in providing the refund to a former long-time customer. T-Mobile X customer service agents now claim that T-Mobile does not have the ability to mail checks. T-Mobile obviously cannot be trusted with private banking details and refuse to provide refund to…
