For me, cuz adhd study tips are so incredibly personal, deadlines are hugely motivating but some other tips include:
1. Find some music that you can kinda stim to. I find a song or playlist that I can loop for however long I need to study without getting bored by it, but there aren’t any parts in the music that really jump out and distract me a bunch. I typically like anime osts cuz the music also has some forward motion- if that makes sense- but they also aren’t super in ur face, because they’re written around dialogue/plot. I also rely on over the ear headphones, but any headphones or earbuds work.
2. When I can, I try to study at a cafe, because studying in the same spot at home starts to feel too familiar. So go to cafes or at least go to different rooms/ different parts of the room to study.
3. I don’t bother with rewards, because I find them pretty arbitrary cuz I’ll just take the reward without doing the task. One exception I guess is using the forest app. You can’t really cheat the system there, and it keeps me off my phone when I’m studying. It also doesn’t fully block calls and stuff so I can still receive messages in an emergency which prevents some anxiety abt it. Forest is also just really aesthetic and cute which helps me use it.
4. I have to be pretty careful about taking breaks cuz they can get out of hand. I like 10-20 minute breaks, which I know some people say are too long, but it gives me time to walk around a little, grab a snack or use the bathroom, and watch a little video. I like to watch study vlogs or day in the life of student vlogs as motivation.
5. Take your meds/caffeine! Also stay hydrate and have snacks. When my attention is flagging, hunger/thirst are almost always the culprits, and I don’t always realize it until it’s been longer than it should’ve been. Meds don’t work as well as they should if you’re also dehydrated, hungry, and sleep deprived. I’m US based and idk what sort of meds u can access, but hopefully this part is pretty universal. Don’t underestimate how much of a boost a sweet drink/treat can be! Your brain needs sugars to function properly.
6. Sleep. Usually at least 6-8 hours if you can.
7. You can also download website blockers on ur device if you want but I don’t like to feel restricted.
8. Find the times that work best for your productivity. I tend to work best either in the evening or first thing in the morning. Occasionally, if my brain isn’t working properly at night, I’ll go to bed earlier and wake up around 4:30-5 am before everyone else is up and it’s still dark out. If you aren’t consistently waking up early, try not to do this for urgent deadlines the day of. Do this when you know you can afford to wake up at 6-7 by accident and still be improved by the extra sleep, even if you miss the hour or two of work.
Hopefully these are a little helpful. The tips are kinda general, but hopefully my examples helped a little with being able to personalize them.
GOOD LUCK!!!! 👍👍

mental health tips i wish i’d been given before starting university
trying is much more important than succeeding
10 minutes of studying > not studying at all
being a college student is more than academics. it’s also learning how to enjoy your own company, learning and occasionally screwing up meals, wandering outside campus like a tourist, questioning your ideals and presuppositions, discovering new talents and skills for the hell of it, and SO much more. if you feel burnt out in one dimension of college life, that’s a sign to spend some time relishing in another dimension.
if you need more time, take a deep breath and shoot that email to your professor/TA asking for an extension. at worst, they say no. and don’t stress over properly explaining yourself/your situation. hell, just email them: “Hi, Professor. I need your help. Sincerely, y/n.” all it takes is that one initial reach out and the rest will follow.
failure does not reflect character. read that again. remind yourself as often as you see fit because at one point or another, you will feel like you’ve failed. it’s growing pains. once you’ve accepted that, learn to view any setbacks as a hint that you need to try a new method/approach. didn’t do well on that math quiz? don’t beat yourself up over it–instead, regroup with yourself and see which metaphorical gear got stuck in your personal learning process machine. for instance, maybe you used flash cards and that wasn’t really your style. act like a detective, not a bully.
THERE IS NO NORMAL TIMELINE FOR YOUR COLLEGE CAREER(!!!!!!). a lot of people need more than 4 years, a lot of people need 4 years, and a lot of people need less than 4 years. and every single one of those timelines are valid. the worst thing you could do is squeeze the living hell out of yourself into some rigid schedule that is incompatible with who you are and how you learn. trust me when i say u will find yourself doing the best work when u do it at YOUR pace.
