wonder having year-round winters is fine and everything, but the fact that for 10 of those 12 months the whole island is completely inaccessible is CRAZY. for 10 whole months ALL of the ports on the island are frozen solid. boats CAN'T come and go. trading ONLY happens in those two slightly warmer months. maybe that's why snowsledding season ends about the same time everything freezes, so people can actually come watch the races without having to live there.

I do not! I smoked a little bit as a teenager, but those experiences were... mostly negative, so I don't really bother anymore.

I do! Just the one for now, a prayer on my wrist, but I've got more planned 😈

5! 2 in each ear and one in my nose. I have a very public-facing academic job, which keeps me from getting other ones I want, but one of my new colleagues has an eyebrow piercing, so I might just go for it.

Lately, it's just that I'm doing my job well. I recently finished grad school and got a very good position right out, and some people in my organization are pretty openly resentful of my age in my position, so the imposter syndrome is at an all time high 😅 I do think my results speak for themselves though and I'm proud of my work, but it still helps a lot to have more experienced peers affirm that!

this Maggie Smith article about how her husband failed to adapt to her professional success is mostly sad and infuriating, but this middle paragraph here about "what women's work was-" is so... confusing? telling? guarded? like these are the kind of domestic chores cottagecore girlies think constitute the bulk of domestic labor - baking Valentine treats? gift wrapping?? - i get all of those imply a constant mental labor - keeping track of all the variables - that's also unequally distributed, but who's cooking in your home? who's going grocery shopping, keeping a running meal plan in their head? who's cleaning? who's doing laundry week after week? who's doing the repetitive crucial chores of domestic reproduction? i imagine not the manchild husband, so it's either you, or some unnamed unmentioned other woman your family employs as "domestic help". if it's you why would you reach for these examples of domestic chores, you sound like Fernando Alonso, and it makes me have to stop and consider the possibility of there being another woman employed in your home who you're not mentioning
