On June 4th 1977 Scotland beat The Auld Enemy 2-1 at Wembley Stadium and decided to take some souvenirs home with them.
Up until its culmination in 1983, the Home International Championship was the oldest international association football tournament in the world, and contested between Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Around two-thirds of a 98,103 strong crowd at Wembley Stadium belonged to Ally’s Army, on a day that would live on in the memory of many a Scotland fan that had the privilege to be there.
The initial stages of the game passed without producing much. As half-time approached, Scotland began to press and as the only team creating chances, an inevitable first goal came from Gordon McQueen off the back of a free kick emerging from a hand ball.
Dalglish sealed the deal with a second and ensured this famous Scotland side left Wembley triumphant, despite a late penalty allowing England to claim a goal.
As the final whistle blew exuberant Scotland fans brought their celebrations down from the stands and onto the pitch. Even Sir Rod Stewart, donned in Scotland attire, could be seen sailing atop a sea of tartan.
One story emerging from the revelry was that of 21-year-old Alex Torrance, who became a national celebrity after being pictured atop the crossbar amidst the jubilations on the pitch, before it famously snapped in half. When Torrance passed away in 2010, Rod Stewart was one of those to send his family flowers all those years later.
The game itself and the jubilant aftermath in the summer of 1977 has gone down as an iconic moment in history for Scotland fans, binding them together in a way that only football can.

Long term, I don't see how Pep Guardiola would work as England manager, nor do I see the same with Thomas Tuchel.
We go on about how England doesn't have elite managers and how other countries are years ahead of us and then immediately start salivating at the idea of elite foreign manager x because they won a load of stuff with clubs.
I'm not against the FA bringing in a foreign manager. If there's no other options, then I don't see why not. But we can't complain about the lack of top English managers and then have the FA set a precedent for not choosing to nurture an English manager or set of managers because they're not quite winning emphatically enough, or they make a misstep and all of a sudden Carsley finds himself finds himself in a situation where he isn't an option because he lost one match and said he wasn't sure about if he would get the job.
I hate the FA, man.

Hi, it's football season again. Here in the UK, there's a MASSIVE football culture. Everyone's talking about it. But I'm here to remind you of an important statistic; Domestic Violence is SO closely linked to football. "... reported incidents increasing by 26% if England plays, 38% if England loses and 11% the next day, win or lose." If you have friends and loved ones you worry about, try to make sure they're safe during this time (where possible, and whilst keeping yourself safe). It's a scary time for those in violent relationships, and every time we win, that fear gets higher. It's another round, another chance of violence, another volitile and terrifying evening. But hey, we're more likely to get beat if we lose too, so... Even if England win, we don't. Be safe. Be aware. Be kind.

Nowhere On The Internet
… or the “Just me, then” list. okay, so I keep intending to start a thread of things that I’ve looked for on the internet because I remember them but no one else seems to at all. I thought other folk could add theirs if they wanted.
First, in 2002 (I think?) radio 5 live in the uk ran a competition for a football song for the England football team. And there was one which went,
“Sven Goran Erikson
isn’t my buddy he’s my chum
Sven Goran Erikson
is a very very very nice man.
He’s ice cold, he’s sophisticated
full of Scandinavian charm…”
And I can’t remember the rest but no one anywhere on the internet even seems to remember that much, so… Just me, then.

On 13th March 1873, the Scottish Football Association was formed.
The Scottish Football Association (SFA) was founded at a meeting held at Dewar's Hotel in Glasgow, clubs represented at this meeting were Queen's Park, Clydesdale, Vale of Leven, Dumbreck, Third Lanark Rifle Volunteer Reserves, Eastern, Granville and Rovers. Archibald Campbell (Clydesdale) was elected president and Archibald Rae (Queen's Park) became secretary of the SFA. It was decided that there should be a knockout competition open to all member clubs and the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup was formed. Following the FA Cup, it is the second oldest competition in association football.
The Scottish FA imposed new rules for these competitive games, helping to raise standards and putting the foundations in place for the professional game in Scotland.
The first tournament began in October 1873 and a total of 16 teams entered the competition. The final was held on 21 March 1874 at the original Hampden Park with Queen’s Park emerging victorious against Clydesdale. It was a tournament that Queen’s Park would dominate during that early period.
Scotland marked the latest chapter in the oldest rivalry in world football by hosting England in a special 150th Anniversary Heritage Match at Hampden last September, unfortunately we were beaten 3-1 on the night, but hey, we're off to Geay for the Euros in Germany this June! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
