What do the wolves and scarlett think about twilight and team edward team jacob?
Scarlett: She adores scary moviesâ doesnât find them scary, but she enjoys watching them. Twilight? Itâs a realm of horror that sheâd rather not venture into. Anastasia forced her to watch the movies and she detested every moment of it.
Quinn: Doesnât truly think about them, to be honest. Itâs an interpretation on vampires, werewolves, and the love that can grow between them and humans. Do they enjoy the books/movies? Not necessarily, but they donât outright hate them either.
Sloane: Might actually growl at you if you asked them to watch it. Theyâre not fans of it in the slightestâ although they used have a guilty pleasure of watching the movies when they were younger (mainly due to a person thatâs no longer in their life). They donât like interacting with the series any longer, however.

Okay, so⊠Iâm gonna ramble about my main OC. My online persona.
Meet Skylar âStormâ Elizabeth Afton.
I used picrew for all but one of these images and some of them are missing her purple ombrĂ© but thatâs besides the point.
Point is, I love this OCâą and Iâm rambling about her.
She is:
Schizophrenic
Autistic
A DID system
Very traumatised
A multifandom OC that is mainly used in my FNAF and BATIM AUs.
Daughter of William Afton in FNAF
Here is a list of some of her alters:
Kairi: William consistently abandoning his family, especially after Chris died. Also doubles as her first alter.
Scarlett: All the Jacob stuff. Some of Stormâs interactions with Jacob were actually Scarlett.
Chris(yes I call the Crying Child Chris, I just like it better than Evan tbh): His death. Chris is her little brother who she loves dearly, she just wanted him back.
Michael: Him caring about her while also constantly scaring Chris. She needed her little brother.
Vincent: Her experience with him growing up. Both good and bad. Including his bipolar episodes.
William(YES SHE HAS AN ALTER OF HER DAD SUE ME): How she saw him before she found out he was a child murderer. She was in denial for years and he formed from her memories of him.
Strawberry: Still working on that one in its entirety, but the general gist of it is that she formed from an incident that happened shortly after she was diagnosed with DID.
I love her to death. If any of you have DID or schizophrenia, please help me out, I wanna write it as accurately as possible, and I have a basic understanding of it from Google and my online bestie who has a book with disorders in it.
#stormy rambles#stormy being totally normal about fandoms and ocs#oc talk#please help me out if you have this condition I want it to be accurate#also I know how to write autism because Iâm autistic#so donât bash me for that#I wonât hesitate to block you if you bash me for how I write something I have#did is a different story because I donât have that and I want to make it as accurate as possible#fnaf#fnaf oc#fnaf au

Heath has been a character since 2007, and I still have to search his name up to remind myself of who he is lol. If they wanted other characters (and the audience) to genuinely react emotionally to his death, they could've given him more interactions with other characters and more screentime/storylines of his own lol. It's not like he wasn't old enough. Jacob, Liv, and Gabby were all given big storylines of their own (and interactions with other characters) when they were younger than Heath was.
It's been a problem for a while. The teen groups get worse every generation.
The Robert, Andy, Ollie, Marc, Donna, Katie etc crew? I feel like they were always on and had real stories and got to appear to react to their parents stories too. You knew who they were, what they wanted out of life. You understood their relationships with each other. They were actual characters. Sure they appeared less than their adult counterparts but if they had killed one of them off, the show would have felt it. And it would have been believable for people to react to. And I mean they did have a joyriding story that resulted in a fatality, it just wasn't one of them. I still haven't watched it but I'm sure it was better than this was/will be.
Then you had the Victoria, Daz, Aaron, Scarlett, Adam, Holly, Hannah, Amy etc group. Again, actual stories. Aaron obviously had big stories from 17 on so he was a bit older but teen Vic and Daz had stories. Scarlett had all of the King drama and Daz drama and then Adam. Obviously the Barton's had a ton of screen time so we got to see the kids often and they all had their own stories. And they were real stories. And then you had teen Amy with the pregnancy.
Next there was Belle's group which had Sean and Gemma and Tom for a bit. Not as much going on. Belle was obviously a character that had plenty of screen time over the years, especially because she was a kid during better eras of the show when kids were seen. But they had their relationship drama and Belle accidentally killing Gemma. I mean I don't know how many people cared about Gemma but I assume people cared about Belle when that happened. And then you can add Lachlan into the mix later, who obviously got plenty of screen time. And Gerry was lovable until Lachlan murdered him.
And that transitions into Liv, Gabby and Jacob. Liv got a fair amount of screen time due to her proximity to Robron. Her stories were a bit hit or miss but at least she got them even if they didn't always do them justice. And they definitely fell off with her and her friendship with Gabby in later years. But Jacob obviously had the Maya story and Gabby had plenty going on with Ashley dying and the Emma stuff and all of Bernice's drama etc. I feel like the biggest problem with these three was the transition to adulthood. They were decent characters as younger teens but they transition was rough because they didn't get as much screen time and Liv especially had zero ambitions. At least Gabby they put at Home Farm and Jacob decided he wanted to be a doctor. This was also the first group where I feel like they really started leaning into the bratty teen trope where they would pop up just to be annoying and then go away again, especially when Leanna got brought into the mix.
Then you've got Noah and Amelia, and Samson and Chloe and Sarah. Despite all of Sarah's earlier stories, this current version of her is just non existent. She never really gets to be a part of the teen drama. She's sort of like Liv, she shows up once in a while to maybe be the voice of reason or be a brat for a second and then disappears again. Then you had Noah and Samson's personality swap. And they've also been episode count challenged, particularly Samson who had several years where he only had 10. So they had no real foundation and then several inconsistent bratty years and then a weird transition into sort of adulthood but also they continue to disappear for long periods of time and I don't really feel like I have a handle on them.
And now you've got this group with Arthur, April, Angelica, Cathy, Heath (RIP), Elliot etc...and half of them just don't exist. Pretty sure Cathy and Heath had an entire year where they were MIA. Elliot was in 11 episodes last year. I literally have no idea who this kid is. Arthur obviously had a story but only just because he got kicked out halfway through in favor of his mother in his own relationship story, which was...a choice. April is probably the most consistent of the bunch but only just. It's just she has slightly more foundation because she's actually gotten family screen time because Donna died and Marlon had a stroke and Carly was always babysitting her. And then Cathy just yells at people and is the ultimate bratty teen, except they gave her an excuse but they haven't really tried to make her endearing in any way to the audience. I don't know, this group is a mess. And you'd think with the stories that Jimmy and Nicola have gotten over the years that they could have involved the kids more but they just really haven't bothered. And like, fine if they're going to develop them now with a story like this but I doubt they will.
Bottom line is, they need to do better with the kids and the teens and let them exist more. Let them react to the adults in their lives. Let them hang out in smaller stories. Give them ambitions. Give them...personalities. Otherwise it's going to be another super rough transition to adulthood...provided any of them survive that long.

*Evie gets controversial again* fair warning
Chris Evans: i just wanna smoke weed and look at pretty trees. Captain America gave me enough cash for life that i can provide for my family and not have to worry about anything. Stop bringing me up, Anthony Mackie is Captain America now !
Also Chris Evans: *keeps showing up to comic cons like every other month to make a quick cash grab (that he doesnât need) and answer questions about being captain america*đ€Ą
Like Iâm so confused, is he not embarrassedđ none of the other big avengers still be doing that shit I-
Heâs like that kid that graduated high school and yet keeps coming back a year or two later to visit and everyoneâs like why tf are u here ??
I understand the aspect of him wanting to meet and interact with marvel fans in a (mostly) safe way, but other than that, I rlly donât see the point of why he attends these things anymore. It gives me such second hand embarrassment lol. Like compared to his former peersâŠRDJ is about to win an Oscar, Scarlett is working on her first major directorial debut, Ruffalo also nominated for an Oscar this year, even hemsworth got his own shit going on. Chris Iâm begging you to do more stuff like defending Jacob, that was so damn good. I feel like that series didnât do as well/wasnât as successful as he expected so he just went back to relying on the same old corny action crap and being âCaptain Americaâ.
Also side note, idek why heâd still want to meet his fans like that, considering so many of them are kinda crazy and straight up mean to his wifeđ
Anyway, suffice to say I miss his dj and knives out days.đ« what a time to be a fan of him, rip lol.
#Iâm BEGGING him to finally do something impressive đ#heâs just been flopping constantly for me lately#I canât#evie talks#evie shitposts#Chris Evans#comic con#cevans#Captain America

Hello!
If youâre new here and are curious about what youâll find, this post is for you! (Updated November 2024)
(Note: TERFs will be blocked on sight)
Me
My name is London (she/her) because thatâs what a name generator decided I would be called, so weâre going with it. I write stuff sometimes, usually involving scientists, dragons, and/or gay magic girls.
For those on mobile, the link to my AO3 page is here.
My asks and DMs are open! If you want to chat about anything writing or fandom related, go for it! Donât be afraid of bothering me. Send an ask, submit a post, spam my fics with commentsâdo what you like (as long as, you know, you donât be a jerk).
Current WIP(s)
The Mad Witch. This is a post-canon HPHM fic that follows Lilianna Flores (Jacobâs sibling), a Magizoologist who left the UK immediately after graduation. She has now returned for the first time in five years. The fic features a MC x Merula pairing and heavy LGBTQ+ themes. Chapter status: 42/60.
Rosemary Reaper. A post-canon Fallout 4 longfic in the works. Updates can be found here.
By Arrow, By Teeth. A sapphic political thriller/detective fic with a tragic ending. Or: Arcane from Elora's POV. Still in the planning stage, but feel free to ask for progress updates.
Other Works
Here are the links to and descriptions of my other works on AO3. Read the older stuff at your own risk.
HPHM
The Mad Witch Deleted and Bonus Content: (Ongoing). Deleted chapters and additional bonus content for The Mad Witch.
Samâs Nightmare: (2,151 words). As the title implies, Sam from The Mad Witch has a nightmare. Involves a thestral chase and Robin. Not important plot-wise; I just wanted to write a scene to music.Â
The Scarlett Cauldron: (46,510 words). Takes place in August 1996. Lily, Penny, and Talbott endure several weeks of stress when a group of American Magizoologists smuggle a werewolf into town. Includes some Penny headcanons, and begins a Talbott x OC relationship.Â
Something Broken: (1,559 words). Takes place Year 3. Unrequited crushes hurt, which Rowan and Lily have more than a little experience with.Â
Fear Itself: (15,141 words). Takes place Year 3. To prepare for the Vault of Fear, Merula must discover what makes her truly happy. No sweat, right? Not entirely canon to The Mad Witch.Â
The Most Powerful Witch: (5,568 words). Takes place Year 5. When Emily Tyler reads Ismeldaâs diary aloud, Merula decides to teach her why you donât mess with the snake house.
Jacobâs Sibling: (1,825 words). Takes place early Year 6. Jacob and Lily have a conversation about, oh, I donât know...the fact that heâs been missing for eight years. Not like thatâs important or anything.
Itâs Not the Fall: (10,663 words). A Penny/Skye fic written for the HPHM Secret Santa 2021. Estranged childhood friends to lovers. Skips back and forth between the events of the game and âpresent dayâ in 1993. Not Mad Witch canon, but delightfully fluffy by the end.Â
Those Years In Between: (Ongoing). A compilation of one shots based on prompts provided by my Tumblr followers. So far features Lily, Charlie, Merula, Ismelda, and more.Â
Flawed Phials: (3,781 words). A Talbott/MC fic written for the HPHM Secret Santa 2022. Talbott struggles to write a Christmas poem for someone special. Gosh, this boy is awkward. Not Mad Witch canon.
Murdered: Soul Suspect
The End: (17,318 words). A rewrite of the gameâs ending with the POV centered around Joy. This was supposed to be a sort of prequel to a post-canon longfic involving her.
3 Years Ago: (5,124 words). One of my personal favorites. A canon-compliant what-if scenario that takes place hours before Juliaâs murder. Explores the impact she might have had on Joy if she had survived. Involves fluffy interactions with Ronan amidst all the angst.Â
Father McCauleyâs Journal: (1,572 words). Father McCauleyâs last journal entries before...you know.Â
Ashland Hills: (5,385 words). An excerpt from the previously mentioned post-canon longfic, A Certain Darkness. While the fic in its entirety bounces between Joy and an OC ghost named Angel, this excerpt is only from Joyâs POV. Finally grants a resolution to Sophia and explores Joyâs relationship with Rex.Â
RWBY
The Crow Bar: (13,621 words). Takes place during Volume 3. Glynda is forced to hunt down her drunken coworkers, which results both in some humorous moments (but not to her) and angsty conversations. Minor yet tragic Goodwitch x Ironwood content. This was supposed to be a spinoff of my OC team longfic (DSRT), hence Glyndaâs assistant Rosemary, but thatâs another one I doubt Iâll finish.Â
Fallout 4
Piperâs Best Worst Day: (7,765 words). Takes place roughly three years before the Sole Survivor leaves Vault 111. Following a successful boycott, Piper deals with a grumpy bartender and a funny-tasting beer.Â
Case by Case: (20,880 words). Takes place 2279, eight years before the Sole Survivor leaves Vault 111 and three years before Diamond Cityâs Anti-Ghoul Decree. An overworked Nick finds unexpected opportunity in a pickpocket. Not the weirdest hiring interview heâs given, but itâs up there.
Dig Seven Graves: (7,641 words). A nonlinear snapshot of Recon Squad Gladius from Haylenâs POVâbefore and after disaster. The last two chapters intersect with the events of Rosemary Reaper.
Original Works
Sunset: (855 words). Written for my creative writing club's Valentine's Day event (i.e., Valentineâs horror stories). Totally a normal teen romance.Â

A business center is also located on site.
UNDER THE CUT YOUâLL FIND THE LIST OF ALL THE ROOMMATES.
The roommates were done by a RANDOM generator. Â To help promote different interactions on the dash, couples will NOT room together.
As we get more people into the role play, we will update the list. If you do not see your characters name on this list, or if you happen to get paired with one of the other characters you play - please message us POLITELY and let us know - the generator was a little weird, but hopefully everyone is accounted for - if not, weâll fix it, donât worry :)
As stated before, as we accept new apps before AND during the event, this list will be updated. Same will go if people get unfollowed, leave the RP etc. So please be mindful that this can and most likely will change.Â
Please remember you are required to do one interaction (tag the main in it) with your roommate otherwise a strike will be implemented. We will be keeping track! Please do message us if your roommate has not replied to you to plot or if they are on the verge of going inactive during the trip, as we will take everything into consideration <3 Please be mindful that we have an activity check before the trip, so do expect some changes! Those on hiatus and reduced activity were not included in this list - but they must just state that their characters are on the trip. However, if those on reduced activity or on hiatus can get online during the trip to rp - youâre more than welcome to!
So, that being said - please LIKE THIS POST so you can not only keep track of this list but also so we know you saw this notice.

Sorry but Jacob shouldve been sitting on the front couch. Iâve said it before and ill say it again. They casted zendaya for her fan base and niw that sheâs actually in the movie they are gonna eat that shit up. Im tired of the overhype and disrespect. Name and follwing are everything nowadays
donât get me wrong I love love love jacob w all my heart (hawaiians represent đ€đŒ) and I think his treatment on the show was honestly pretty questionable- he shouldâve gotten to talk way more!! but I canât think of any other way they couldâve arranged the seats in a way that makes sense đ from the press so far it seems like mysterio and mjâs characters are going to be pretty important to this film ya know?? and z isnât the only well-known cast member either, jake is an academy award nominee so I think it makes sense that theyâd want to hype up the fact that heâs playing a beloved comic book character by putting him in front too!!
I understand why youâre frustrated, but itâs how the industry is unfortunately. thatâs how marvel is gaining more fans and audience members and ultimately financing films for us to watch!! I mean rdj, gwyneth paltrow, brie larson, scarlett johansson, chris pratt, lupita nâyongo, bradley cooper, + angela bassett (I could probably go on forever) were all well known actors before they joined the mcu- itâs kind of a staple of the franchise- and I think they all portrayed their characters wonderfully!! I donât see whatâs so bad or different about zendaya as mj simply following in these charactersâ steps.
and again, I donât really understand why zendayaâs fans enjoying her performance in the film would be a bad thing?? maybe Iâm biased because I love her, but like I said sheâs a positive role model!! sheâs unproblematic as far as celebrities go!! sheâs a self-made boss lady!! and in my experience her fans are pretty respectful and fun to interact with!! there are definitely way more toxic fans of the mcu than hers and you know it. and in my opinion, she earned her spot on that cast!!
all of that being said, if ned leeds doesnât have a lot of screen time in ffh Iâm going to riot

Listen to me very carefully, after you're done with the mcu marathon, whatever happens just DON'T go on youtube and start watching the best moment compilation videos from the press tours in the last 10 years. Don't stay up late watching the things I'm gonna write in this list...
RDJ's sassy answers and the charisma that can light up the whole room
Mark and Scarlett, Renner and Elizabeth being supersweet,
Anthony Mackie proving he can light up any environment with his sense of humour.
Chris Evans's love for scaring people, yelling 'nailed it' and the left boob grab.
Sebastian being his unfairly handsome, Romanian cutie pie, 'you know' self.
Hemmy+Evans laughter bombs,
Stackie best moments and fun banters with Tom 'the kid is a problem' Holland đ,
His lovely interactions with fans,
almost all the avengers babysitting Spiderman at one time or the other,
Don Cheadle being the best and giving his 'no nonsense dude' expression. (Also he really tried to stop Mark from giving that spoiler, okay?)
Forever Sweetheart Paul Rudd gushing and fanboying over his fellow Avenger costars
Tom Hiddleston being good at almost every human skill possible,
Brie Larson being super cute
Everyone thirsting over MBJ and Hemsworth's godly physique
Constant mention of Kevin Feige being the 'big boss' by everyone, Taika Waititi and Jeff Goldsman being unabashedly themselves. Joe Russo's ocassional Sass.
Subtle DC trash talk đ

So what exactly is this boogeyman series? Is it like linked anthology stories since there are supposed to be eight novels? They seem to have a supernatural theme to them by the name and since you say Jacob literally sells his soul. It all sounds so intriguing
Oh god.
So basically the Boogeymen actually started as a single novel, named Hollywood Horror, where an actor in Hollywood literally sold his soul to an eldritch abomination known as a Teratophite, which is a title given to the Master of Fear and is a title violently and viciously fought over by those greater beings In The Know.
And then the series took off when I started trying to connect a series of random ideas I had stored in numerous notebooks since I was eight. Some got scrapped but some, those that still held up over the weight of time, got included in the final lineup.
Hollywood Horror itself clocks in at about 300 pages, 200K words (give or take, I still need to edit) and over 70 chapters (with at least ten left unwritten still).
In the series itself there are over 200 named characters, approaching 30 subplots, and all combination of character interactions.
The series is as follows (to give you a brief glimpse):
Hollywood Horror: Bela Gautreaux (known as Bela Lamont) is a Hollywood movie star trapped in cheap horror flicks playing the dumb slutty blonde. He also has a very bizarre number one fan, an Eldritch Abomination that he names Fred Kellogg when the creature refuses to cooperate. He is given an offer he could hardly pass up: Fame, fortune, power, money, everyone knowing his name, all in exchange for his own mind body and soul.Â
Cannibal Kitchen: Godfrey Minh, a North Korean man who works as a chef in a cheap diner manages to catch the attention of Mallory Butch, the husband of the infamous and vastly frightening Hedvika Borbely, meat-packing and restaurant tycoon. He is given an interview with Hedvika and a chance to be head chef in a very specific business venture, a highly exclusive restaurant, catered to only the very wealthy. The catch? He has to make a menu with only human flesh as the meat he can work with.
Suburban Cemetery: Karmilla Goeth owns a strip club, the Pink Oyster, and neighbour to one Scarlett Brams, a girl who is quietly repressed and fighting her own coming of age and attractions. When Karmilla invites Scarlett to visit âher girlsâ Scarlett quickly finds herself at complete ease at the Pink Oyster and the staff inside. Meeting the owner of De Bloedige Balzaal, a casino that auctions off human beings, and the other owner of The Bacchanal, a BDSM club that trades in blackmail, Scarlett carves herself a niche as the girl with all the numbers and all the books to keep the government from not peeking in.
Violent Touches: Tzeitel and Elisha Barbarkovic survived too much to be killed by the Holocaust. But after their release from the Nazi eugenics labs and their subsequent disappearances, they decide to make their return to the world with a bang, starting in Japan, where they begin their âCollectionâ. Generations have grown up since they were imprisoned, and the Barbarkovic twins want their pound of flesh, and are willing to take it in the form of children, grandchildren, and blood. With a drug empire burgeoning beneath their tender loving care, they come to realize that the most precious thing they had lost, their daughter Hodel, is coming back to find them, brainwashed and out for blood.
Interstate Inferno: Guadalupe is a violent woman by nature, not by nuture. She wants her land, her peopleâs land, to be freed of intruders, and is willing to kill to do so. Even to kill her own kin to give herself the power to change forms, to peel off her own skin and don another in disguise. When she comes across Lunette, a pregnant Crow girl selling herself in truck station lots, she snatches up the girl and refuses to release her, whether from duty or possessiveness or some twisted up sense of loyalty, Lunette doesnât know. But theyâll find out if they can survive each other, across the winding roads of Americaâs prairies.Â
Murder Motel: Leigh Gutierrez can see things more precisely than others can. He can see intention and personality, the aura of a person, more clearly than most people can see their own reflections. So when Oscar Folsom comes into his motel, and his life, he knows the man is trouble. His aura bears the candy-sweet taste of death and violence, and Leigh knows that Oscar is someone to be avoided. So when Oscar comes to him with an idea: to make Leighâs motel a center where people of less than legal occupations can come to do their dirty work, Leigh knows itâs probably a bad idea. But then again, so is marrying the bastard.
Crazy Mills: Every story has a hero. Has that one night in shining armor, the hardened but fair and just cop, the one who will set everything right. Nick Mills wishes he could be that man. He wishes even more ardently that his superiors would believe him. Would listen to him when he says that a little motel in the middle of nowhere is involved with the Barbarkovic drug empire, that the Barbarkovics have a sordid and violent history with Hedvika Borbely, business tycoon, or that the club that her husband frequents, the Pink Pearl, is front for what he believes to be a bizarre form of human trafficking. At the center of the sticky web lies the most unassuming piece of all, a movie star that he very well believes to no longer be human. If only he wasnât dying from a brain tumor. Then maybe Mills could believe his own evidence too. He canât even believe that his partner, Clarice Valentine, is really a person and not a figment of his own imagination.
The Boogeymen Parade (title pending): Bela has gone missing. No. Missing is not the right word. Heâs been abducted and Fred knows it. Fred also knows that he canât survive very long without Bela. And if Fred canât survive, then the others wonât either. Itâs not until their own ranks start to dwindle that the Boogeymen start to panic. Guadalupe is the first to vanish, and then the Barbarkovic twins, soon followed by Hedvika, Karmilla, and finally Leigh. With Fred and Oscar at the helm, panicking loudly and running out of time, theyâre racing the clock to bring back the others before they might not be able to rescue their friends and enemies at all. And while this all happens, on the horizon Bela appears again. But not as he was and not as he should be.
#bigg fiction#the boogeymen#hollywood horror#cannibal kitchen#suburban cemetery#violent touches#interstate inferno#murder motel#crazy mills#the genre combination for all of these is horror/romance/comedy#let that sink in for a minute#Anonymous

Greta Gerwig & Joe Swanberg: The Penny-Pinching Future of Indie Cinema
By Steve Dollar  |  March 2, 2009Â
source: https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/03/greta-gerwig-joe-swanberg-the-penny-pinching-futur.html
Thereâs low-budget guerrilla filmmaking and then thereâs low-budget guerrilla filmmaking. Greta Gerwig, the 25-year-old star of indie-cinema micro-faves such as Hannah Takes the Stairs, Nights and Weekends and Baghead, recalls an inspiring moment during a visit home to her native California. Making an overnight stop at a motel in Santa Barbara, she flipped through the TV channels until she was stopped cold by something on the local public-access station. There, she discovered a very curious action flick called The Pharaoh Project.
âIt was beyond amazing,â Gerwig says, her cadence by turns hesitant and headlong, as she recalls the insane saga about an elite squad of legendary warriors (Genghis Khan! Alexander the Great!) reincarnated to wreak havoc on the modern world. Really, it was like the director and his beefiest bouncer buddies were trying to create a Steven Seagal sci-fi/action epic on a PBR budget. âThe most official-looking car they could get their hands on was a cream-colored Toyota 4Runner, but they played it like it was an FBI armored vehicle.
Gerwig, a Barnard-schooled playwright, screenwriter and director, has won glowing reviews for her comedic acting skills, mostly channeled into fetchingly flaky characters as romantically befuddled as befuddling. But even if the Los Angeles Times calls her âan ingĂ©nue for the text-message set,â and even if sheâs about to start shooting John C. Reilly in her next feature, she still shares a nothing-fancy Williamsburg pad with a roommate. Make fun of The Pharaoh Project all you want. Gerwig wonât. âI just kept watching because there was so much there to admire,â she says. âIt isnât that far removed from the kind of movies Iâve made. The âletâs just go do itâ attitude. Weâre interested in different things. Iâm interested in the million tiny deaths that occur in everyday human interactions, and theyâre interested in sweet-ass roundhouse kicks. But the motivation to make something is similar.â
Along with her friend and sometime collaborator Joe Swanberg, 27, Gerwig is one of the most prolific characters in a new wave of young filmmakers lighting up the indie landscape. The past few years have seen the arrival of a slew of talented, original directors who have thrived despiteâand sometimes because ofâminiscule budgets and improvised means: The list includes the Duplass brothers (Baghead), Aaron Katz (Dance Party, USA; Quiet City), Todd Rohal (The Guatemalan Handshake), Ron Bronstein (Frownland), Mary Bronstein (Yeast), Craig Zobel (Great World of Sound), Ry Russo-Young (Orphans, You Wonât Miss Me), Frank V. Ross (Hohokam, Present Company), Kentucker Audley (Team Picture), Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories) and Andrew Bujalski (Funny Ha Ha, Mutual Appreciation).
Early on, Bujalskiâs sound mixer, Eric Masunaga jokingly referred to one of the films as âmumblecore,â and the label stuck for a while. It was catchy, and spoke to the indie-rock flavor of efforts like Swanbergâs LOL, in which urban post-grads stumble in and out of relationships, bands and poorly furnished apartments, endlessly discussing feelings they canât always articulate. The use of consumer-grade handheld digital-video cameras, spontaneous dialogue and casts comprised mostly of other budding directors are also common tendencies, although by no means exclusively so. Katz gives his actors scripts. Bronstein, who co-starred with his wife Mary in the Swanberg-shot Web series Butterknife, works in 16mm. So does Zobel. Not everyone digs Final Cut software. In other words, these filmmakers are hardly clonesâbut they have more in common with one another than they do with everyone else.
This movement, as such, has branched out as Swanberg and his peers have begun to mature after years of film festivals such as Austinâs annual SXSW, which became a flourishing seedbed for the movement around 2005.
âThe technology changed in the mid-to-late â90s,â Swanberg says, giving his socio-cultural analysis as he takes a chair next to Gerwig in a photographerâs studio near the Manhattan Port Authority. Itâs a brittle winter evening after a day of hiking around bleak locales in upstate New York, where the pair posed as Depression-era vagabondsâeven as all-too-real panhandlers proliferate on the streets outside. âThe resolution got better, and the Internet allowed social networking to happen like it hadnât before. The threat of the actors strike in 2001 that paved the way for a lot of reality TV to hit the mainstream made a huge impact on the way mass audiences perceived handheld video. Because they got used to watching it, all in one year, with Survivor and every other show that came along shot in a run-and-gun style on a small camera.â
It wasnât long before young filmmakers hit the festival circuit with their own low-budget projects, though, as Swanberg notes, âA bunch of celebrities had to make movies on [digital video] to legitimize it. Ethan Hawke had to make one, and Richard Linklater and Robert Rodriguez. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alan Cumming made The Anniversary Party, and everyone said it was cool, and even then it took a lot longer.â
Swanberg began shooting so-called âwebisodesâ in 2005 with Young American Bodies, a series for the erotically minded Nerve.com, which reflected the diaristicâOK, blog-likeâintimacy of his features. âThis whole idea of exposing very personal inner thoughts to a general public whether they wanted it or not seemed really crazy five years ago,â he says. âBut it was around the same time that these smaller movies started to do something similar: Iâll tell my story and my friendâs story. If it plays festivals and people see it, great, and if it doesnât, it still exists. I made my first two movies for less than 3,000 bucks.â
That vow of insularity canât stick forever, though. Swanbergâs new film, Alexander the Last premieres March 14 at SXSW and, on the same day, becomes available by demand on IFC, as part of its Festival Direct series. The idea, Swanberg explains, is to make the film broadly accessible while itâs still playing festivals, and not wait for interest to fade. âThe way people are watching stuff is changing,â he says. âIf I donât start putting these movies out very quickly they will start backing up on each other. Theatrical distribution doesnât make sense anymore.â
Benten Films, a DVD outfit run by two film criticsâAndrew Grant of FilmBrain.com and Aaron Hillis of GreenCine.comâhas done an impressive job of packaging and promoting work by Swanberg and fellow indie upstarts like Audley, Rohal and Katz. But itâs not easy. âThere arenât enough distributors to go around,â Hillis says. âIf youâre an independent filmmaker there are not a lot of options out there. Thereâs no more middle class. Itâs just a matter of time before it becomes either The Dark Knight or mumblecore, with nothing in between.â
If thatâs the case, Swanbergâs work doesnât suffer from a smaller screen. Alexanderâa slender (72 minutes) but quietly observant drama that says as much with silence as with its improvised dialogueâis lucky to have an irresistible center of gravity in Jess Weixler (Teeth), a rising star whose face is a delicate map of feeling. About nothing if not process, the film charts the keenly attenuated emotional swings of Alex, a young actress drawn to her handsome co-star Jamie (Barlow Jacobs) while her rock-musician husband is on the road. To further complicate matters, she has introduced the fresh-from-Kentucky Jamie to her older sister Hellen (Amy Seimetz), who actually engages in the fling Alex and Jamie pretend to have onstage. The milieu may not be too far away from the tempest-in-a-beer-can angst of The Real World, but the spirit is much closer to the bedroom intimacies of the French New Wave. Yet, even if Swanbergâs actors are at home with casual nudity and candid couplings, their journeys of self-discovery are not linked to a larger political or philosophical agenda. They prefer singing their own songs and tinkering on thriftshop keyboards to dropping postmodern allusions to art and cinema. Their point is not to be clever, but to be honest. The film also broadens Swanbergâs professional circle. Jane Adams (Happiness) takes a small but key role, and Brooklyn filmmaker Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale), for whom Swanberg has been working as a cameraman and assistant director, helped produce when another project failed to jell. Likewise, the Duplass brothers, whose ambitions skew more mainstream, have cast John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill for their next comedy. And Reilly also takes the lead in Gerwig and collaborator Alison Bagnallâs Funny Bunny.
âThereâs an audience now, and Iâm wanting things I didnât want before,â Swanberg says. âI want to shoot in other cities now, and I want to shoot in HD. I want to rent apartments, and I want sailboats and all these other elements. But before, I was content with a few people in a room.â
Gerwigâwho spent the past year racking up performances in neo-grindhouse genre flicks like Ti Westâs House of the Devil and a non-mumblecore indie in which Iggy Pop plays her dadâhas a good laugh about her efforts to go Hollywood. âIâve made a bunch of audition tapes,â she says. âI start cracking up because I canât get through the scenes. Some of them, I have to cry and say things in Southern accents.â She drifts into her best Scarlett OâHara: âJohnny did not kill that bay-buh! I killed it! Because I hated it!â Nonetheless, the actress confesses, sure, âIâd love to be the girl in the dinosaur movie.â Well, OK, maybe a movie with little plastic dinosaurs.
Gerwig says she was astonished to learn that the guys who made Cloverfield are fans. âThe woman who casts Gossip Girl loves Aaron Katz. What!? But maybe Iâm not supposed to say that. The number of people who are around watching you out of the corner of their eye is amazing.â
Swanbergâwhose output has increased since he brought on Anish Savjani (Wendy and Lucy) as a producerâwonât likely be taking on any Cloverfield sequels, even with his handheld-video skills. If his films donât make money, heâll still shoot. âItâs a compulsion for me,â says Swanberg, who also finds time to continue acting in his friendsâ movies, shooting Web projects and helping his wife, Kris Williams, with both her filmmaking and burgeoning gourmet-ice-cream business. âItâs not like I started doing it because I was good at it. Nor is it that I continue to do it because Iâm good at it. I do it because I canât help it, and I donât know what else to do. I already know there will be a period when I will make 10 of them that nobody sees or likes or writes about. But the reason why I will continue through that period that nobody cares is not because they will care again but because I canât help it. Itâs selfish. Iâm making these things for me.â

I saw the spoilers about Jacob seemingly having his own storyline (first time in forever lmao), and I hope this is a shift in the right direction regarding the younger characters. They are often treated like an afterthought. I watch Hollyoaks too, and the contrast is shocking - the young characters actually have lives of their own and stories that are well developed. Also most of the young characters are so much better developed than characters like Chloe and Jacob (I'm so over Chloe lol, she needs to leave hahaha). I get that Emmerdale has a general older audience than Hollyoaks, but that doesn't mean young characters need to be treated like an afterthought or a plot device, or that older viewers wouldn't be interested in the younger characters or storylines.
His own storyline? Or his own plot point in someone else's story, namely David's exit story. I feel like it's probably the latter.
They really have dropped the ball with the younger characters on this show repeatedly in the last 5-7 years and more really. I mean Belle had a brief little teen friend group but post killing Gemma, she really was very isolated aside from occasional Lachlan stuff and briefly Gerry but she's definitely had a hard transition into adulthood with few peers and she was probably one of the most developed kid characters. The rest never stood a chance.
It's interesting because I came into the show for Aaron's coming out story and he was 17/18 years old and he was so present and connected in the village. I mean the whole show was different then, better. But he was in lots of episodes. He had a real focus during that story and later during the Jackson stuff. He had a job at the garage that we actually saw him work at, which gave him plenty of interactions with Cain, Debbie and Ryan and various customers. He lived with Paddy, which gave him interactions with Paddy and Rhona and Marlon and Pearl. He had Chas as a mum, which gave him interactions with her and Carl and occasionally Jimmy. He had an actual friend in Adam and interacted with the whole Barton family. He also had his friendship with Victoria. And Adam and Holly and Vic and sometimes Hannah/Matty or Amy or Scarlett or Daz etc, really felt like they had a firm place in the show.
These days, these kids are just barely there most of the time. We had that brief period with Liv, Gabby and Jacob and sometimes Gerry or Noah etc that actually interacted and were friends but then I feel like post covid, they really all just stopped interacting. Their transition into adult roles was rough. They gave Gabby a baby, they married Liv off and Jacob....I don't know they killed his girlfriend and let him go to school to be a doctor? But Gabby is stuck in a perpetual loop of throwing herself at the wrong men and then getting angry and obsessive when it doesn't work out and it's exhausting to watch. Liv was stuck in her perpetual alcohol story until the caravan finished her off (RIP Liv) and now Vinny just floats around doing nothing and barely existing. Jacob is also barely there unless he's showing up to occasionally be a plot friend to Gabby, getting stabbed or getting to play doctor on Bob. And I guess he's occasionally spotted in his shop apron but what happens when David does leave? Does he lose his shop job? Does he keep it because Eric continues to own it and they're too complacent to every shake things up with a new family?
I don't know, with everything soooo plot driven these days, no one is really allowed to just exist as a casual character or have smaller plots. So unless you're desperately needed for someone else's plot or you actually get a big story, you're just hardly seen. And if you do get a big story, you're oversaturated for a few weeks until everyone is sick of you and then you disappear for three months until it's time to rehash the story because no one is allowed to just exist like a normal person. And the kids/young adults suffer a lot from this.
Like I know the actress who plays Cathy left to go do her exams or whatever but she had this big story, everyone was so happy to see her go for a while, and then they brought her back and just picked it up again like she didn't have a whole break and it's like "really...in the last three months, she didn't do any kind of growing?"
And then you had Arthur and Marshall who had a whole thing for a while and then disappeared for months only to come back and have them randomly arguing and breaking up. That sort of went the opposite route where you were like "wait what did I miss?"
April has been MIA for ages. Elliot and Angelica barley exist. Samson still barely exists. I regularly forget Sarah is even a character. Heath doesn't exist unless Cathy does. He didn't even need a reason to be off screen cause no one would even know he wasn't there.
Like I had some hope for this group when Arthur's coming out story was happening and Cathy's early PMDD stuff but then it all just fizzled out.
I just wish we could see these kids being friends, starting to work in the village and seeing them at those jobs. Seeing them hanging out at the cafe or seeing them go to the pub with their families. Something. I just miss when the show was less plot driven and you actually saw people exist in the village throughout their day. I always think about Aaron's little plot of getting his driver's license. That would never happen to day. I mean, yes it did lead to him going out that night with Adam and almost kissing him and kicking off his coming out story, but it still happened. The closest we ever got after that was Liv wanting her license but not being allowed because of her epilepsy that went nowhere.
But I mean, really all of the characters are suffering from the way the show is structured now. It's just that you still have a lot of adult characters who are relatively well established so it's less of a problem for them.
I want Jane leaving to be a sign of better times ahead but I really don't know. They just need to completely restructure and overhaul the show from the ground up.

SHIPPING INFO !! ANSWER THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR MUSE SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW SHIPPING WORKS ON YOUR BLOG.
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER ?:
I love the ships on my blog, but I tend to forget them all. I really love Tristam/Evie, Sean/Kassandra, Jacob/Lilith, Jacob/Scarlett, & Sean/Elizabeth.
With canon characters, I don't really ship anyone with each other and I'm not big about it. With Sean and Arthur though, I prefer not to ship it. Mostly because I see them as a younger brother annoying the older brother, a mentor/mentee relationship, and all in between. I wouldn't feel comfortable shipping the two.
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO WRITE WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING ?:
Mostly anything, obviously everything morally: no in/cest, r/ape, or anything underage and is illegal. I tend to not really prefer toxic or abusive relationships. Thatâs just my preference. I have no hate towards writing angst in ships or when a couple has an argument with one another -- almost every couple argues with one another, it happens. I just donât really like it when it gets to an abusive part. I would be fine if there was some angst of both or one person basically using the other as a way for companionship, not actually loving them, and realizing it later. Or a relationship that just doesnât work in the end. That is something that would be fine with me.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE ?:
This applies to all of my muses -- but I would say a 10 year age gap. Most, actually all of them, are in their 20's unless you count Evie's rdr2 verse. All of my muses would prefer someone close to their age, but not all of my muses are that picky with an age. Just the limit with me would probably be 10 years? Just because I know they wouldn't prefer dating someone that's 20 years older (or more) than them.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING ?:
I would say, yes? I tend to be, since I only ship on chemsitry or unless I know th emun really well and we have rped in the past together. But usually, I'll agree to the ship, to try it out.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NS/FW ?:
I know this isn't really NS/FW, and more with my comfort level. But i tend to get uncomfortable when s/ex is mentioned, like maybe a flirt towards it or making out even. But what I would label as NS/Fw and when I would either fade to black, timeskip, or not even continue is when it's the main focus? You know? It's kinda hard to explain, but this is mostly about my comfort level.
WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH ?:
Sean/Thea, Jacob/Scarlett, Sean/Kassandra, Sean/Elizabeth, Evie/Tristam, and I guess also Evie/Arno even though I don't interact with an Arno, and some others.
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU ?:
Yes, I would heavily prefer that. I don't really like a ship coming out of nowhere. Like I get it if your muse ksises mine while drunk, but I would prefer if you asked me beforehand to ship our characters. Most likely I'll say yes if we itneracted enough to have chemsitry between the two.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP ?:
I really love shipping and fluff threads & asks, shipping and those interactiosn being one of my favorite thread types. But I don't know how much? I think a healthy amount? I;m usually always open for a muses's partner to interact with them.
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS ?:
MI don't know if I would say obsessed, but I do like shipping.
ARE YOU MULTISHIP ?:
Yes, every ship is their won universe. Even Evie is open to shipping, even though in canon she's in a relaitonship with Henry.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM ?:
Mary Beth/Kieran and Hosea/Dutch I guess?
FINALLY, Â HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU ?:
Message me, have our muses interact for a bit and see if there's a possibility for it to happen. I'm always open to really good friendships and stuff, too.

My Two Year Old
Scarlett is now two years old. Where has the time gone? She is now starting to interact with more kids at her day care and for some reason enjoys running errands and doing chores with me. We now have conversations that were impossible to have just a few months ago. Every night, I read her a bed time story and she becomes impatient when we skip a night. Scarlett enjoys playing with crayons and doing puzzles while in day care with the other children and has become potty-trained over the past year. At this point there is no need for concern, since she can carry simple conversations and can solve puzzles rather quickly for her age. The only technology Scarlett is exposed to is television, and in limited quantities, since, âchildren younger than 30 months âcannot learn from television and videos as they do from real-life interactionsââ. I believe giving her an Ipad at an early age just for entertainment reflects bad parenting. Iâve attempted to invest all of my spare time to be with her, which I believe will benefit her social and cognitive skills later on in life.
