I’ve gone from ‘a pleasure to have in class’ to ‘pleasure to have in the intensive outpatient program’ #character development.

Spinning round and round till I'm dizzy, I find myself playing Pin the Tail on the Future, just another game in this kaleidoscope of kindergarten chaos.
I play Tag with my hopes and dreams, but I can never catch them.
I flee to the Seesaw of Past & Present, but there's nobody on it to balance me out.
So I jump on a Mood Swing and swing back and forth for hours, days, years.
I fear that this therapeutic play yard will be my actual graveyard.

My anxiety today is the worst it’s been in three years. In January 2020 I experienced a bad trauma at the dentist. I had horrible ptsd and had to go back into intensive outpatient psychiatric care. I’ve known since then that I have a few cavities. Recently one tooth has been sore once in a while, but last night started hurting. I got so anxious just thinking about having to go to the dentist, but I went on my insurance website and found a few locations that accept my plan. I just called one and have an appointment next Monday. I’m fucking terrified. I texted my sister, though, and she is going to come with me. I’ve always had anxiety surrounding going to the dentist, but since my trauma it’s been horrible. I’ve been shaking all day, crying on and off, and almost started dissociating at one point. And it’s just been/going to be a week, when it rains it pours. My dad is having major surgery on Friday morning, and my mom has some stuff going on. I’m just feeling overwhelmed. But at least I was brave enough to make the appointment, I’ve put it off as long as I could.

im not sure who, if anyone, needs to hear this from me but:
- getting help at a mental hospital is okay
- doing an inpatient program is okay
- doing a partial program is okay
- doing an intensive outpatient program is okay
i "graduate" from the iop ive been in for over a month on tuesday, and i can safely say this is one of the best decisions ive made for myself and my well-being.
ive learned so much about myself and why i think the way i do. ive learned how to cope with intrusive and catastrophizing thoughts. ive learned that i love group therapy and it's incredibly helpful to share with people in similar life paths as you. im still mentally ill, but i can cope much better now. you get out what you put in, and all the work has been incredibly worth it.
my only regret is not doing this sooner. i was struggling so incredibly hard and on a downward spiral since February. the stigma against these programs kept me from doing it sooner, and if even one person can see this and maybe take the steps to get the help they need, i'll have made at least a small difference.
tldr; get help if you need it. you are worthy and deserving, and stigmas are stupid.

I love when work keeps me after for five minutes and so I end up five minutes late to therapy which means that I don't get to go at all. 🙃

Sometimes I think back to my IOP experience and go
Wow, I really learned nothing from that because I was immediately told I should not befriend anyone there. I spent so much time trying not to get attached that I litterally didn't process anything else.
For context, in IOP they give you rules. Don't wear school identifying clothing to IOP was one,I remember. The rule I'm talking about here is the "do not contact anyone in IOP outside of IOP" rule. Basically "in fight club we do not talk about fight club" but for emotions. Now the rule has good reason behind it,they don't want kids trying to help others when they need to help themselves, but it really didn't help me considering how I get attached incredibly easy and I became litterally terrified of going in to the point I cried in the parking lot.
I kind of wonder how others feel about it. Because well....I know my situation is unique because I wasn't really there for regular reasons (my depression was worsening because I had chronic pain, which basically led me to be unable to do things I loved, and I eventually reached a point where I thought I was dying.) but also I wonder if anyone had similar reactions to it?
Anyways me and my mom called it playground syndrome because everytime I made a friend at the playground I would sob leaving them.

IOP Program: Everything You Need To Know
More than a million people are diagnosed with Substance Abuse Disorder and have trouble controlling their urges. This complicates their lives and creates major disruptions in the relationship, decreasing their work-life balance and productivity. Moreover, people of all ages are vulnerable to this mental health crisis, and the urge has grown to some extent.
That’s why the Intensive Outpatient Program is on the rise, helping people of all ages deal with various mental health issues. These mental health issues happen due to various factors. It includes, consuming illegal substances, alcohol use disorders, eating disorders, depression and much more. The only condition is that these treatments don’t need around-the-clock supervision and enable the individual to continue with normal life.
It is different from traditional outpatient therapy, where you see the therapists once or twice a week. However, in the best Intensive Outpatient Programs, you see the therapist for 2–3 hours and then go home to be with your loved ones.
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
Tumblr media
The IOP program, or Intensive Outpatient Program, is a kind of mental health program that is way ahead of the traditional outpatient program. It can either be group therapy or individual therapy, where the individual takes the therapy for 2–3 hours a day to 3–5 hours a week. The program teaches about the unique coping strategies that can be used at home. So, it is a process where the individual is transitioning from inpatient treatment to their normal, regular lives.
Who needs an IOP program?
When a loved one is diagnosed with a mental health disorder, they need a detoxification program to deal with the withdrawal symptoms or suicidal thoughts. The recommendation for IOPs is needed depending on the type of care. The need for IOP depends on various criteria.
In the following, we have a list of issues that need IOP sessions. By knowing the list of issues, you can help your loved one get timely treatment with structured support with better recovery and well-being.
Check whether your loved one is diagnosed with any of these:
Mental health challenges
Substance Use disorders
Co-occurring issues (mental health and addiction)
Post-rehabilitation support
Need for family support
A proactive step for preventive care for mental health issues
Benefits of the IOP program over Residential Treatments
When choosing a treatment option for behavioral or mental health, it is important to consider the right treatment option. There are significant differences between IOP and residential treatment with each set of benefits. In this section, we are going to discuss the benefits of IOP that help in the recovery process. By knowing the benefits, you can make informed decisions that align with specific circumstances and goals.
Let’s explore the benefits together:
Maintain a daily routine and responsibilities
Budget-friendly and quality care
Receiving treatment support at homes
Fosters a sense of support and community in the society
Tailored therapy and support
Transitioning from residential care to care at home
Practice coping skills
Higher levels of privacy and confidentiality
Is there any role of Family involvement in the IOP program?
Families are strong support systems that cater to the needs and preferences of people when it comes to mental health. Having strong family support during challenging times enhances your mental health. With the right support, the need for family support increases. The IOP sessions understand the role of family in such circumstances to enhance recovery.
Take a look at how family plays a crucial role during IOP sessions:
Providing crucial emotional support
Fosters motivation and adherence to mental health treatment plans
Better communication that addresses mental health challenges
Identifying triggers and stressors
Creating a supportive environment for recovery
Learn about relapses and coping strategies
Sustaining recoveries, and preventing lapses while promoting overall well-being
How to find the Right IOP near you?
Embarking on the journey of IOP is a crucial step. One thing you know is that you need a clear plan and know your needs. It can be daunting at first, but with a proper care plan and support, things can be manageable. By streamlining the process of locating the IOP that suits the needs of your loved ones, you can make an informed decision that steps toward your goal.
What is the process of finding the right IOP?
Accessing needs
Consulting a healthcare professional
Check whether the health insurance covers the IOP
Research well to get a list of institutions that offer IOP programs
Visit the facility
Review the program details, daily or weekly schedules, types of therapies, and so on
Access the IOP location
Consult with loved ones and trust individuals to make the right decisions
Also, don’t hesitate to ask these:
Ask about the program’s structure
Duration of the program
Qualification of the staff
Offering any special treatment
However, there are other factors that you need to consider while choosing an IOP. You may find many mental health institutions in Arizona that offer IOP sessions, but you need to make a list to find the right one.
Check out the following,
If the institution offering IOP is near your house
What is the length of the program?
Is there a long waiting line to take up the IOP program?
What is the cost per session?
What are the tailored care plans?
Are these treatments research-based? For instance, CBT
Are there any aftercare plans?
By following these, you can make the right decision and choose the right IOP program in Arizona that suits the needs and preferences of loved ones.
What happens after the IOP program?
Once the loved one is done with the Intensive Outpatient Program, he or she is transferred to the regular outpatient program or support group therapy sessions. Some institutions also offer aftercare programs, depending on the needs and progress of the program.
In Conclusion,
Tumblr media
Intensive outpatient program is a step toward effective mental health recovery while also addressing serious mental health issues. The flexible schedule combined with an effective therapeutic approach makes it a compelling method to deal with mental health issues.
Whether you are on a path to recovery or fostering mental growth, IOP has always served the best. If you or your loved one is looking for an IOP session, get in touch with a mental health expert to discuss your specific needs.
So, begin your journey to transformation right away.

Does anyone else absolutely fucking HATE IT when adults are nice to you???????? Like they say something kind and you are like what the FUCK??????? Today, for instance, I was doing my first individual therapy session with this guy and I was like yeah so here is a thing that my parents did when I was a kid and he was like, that’s not okay. And I was like yeah it sucked but it’s fine and he was like no. That’s not okay. That was a really fucked up thing for them to do. I’m sorry that happened. And instead of being like THANK you like a normal person my response was to glare at him and say “Okay” in the most monotonous voice I have ever managed because FUCK YOU JUSTIN FUCK YOU WHAT THE FUCK. I HATE YOU. Is this a thing or am I just weird?

Why are IOP Treatments Ideal for People with Mental Health Issues?
Tumblr media
Outpatient treatment plans are an excellent option for people suffering from mental disorders. These allow them to maintain their social circle while seeking the desired support. An intensive evening outpatient treatment plan will enable the patient to seek proper guidance from experts while permitting them to return to their safe place at the end of the day. Learn why this treatment option is the best alternative for people with mental illnesses by clicking here.

You can avail of the Intensive Outpatient Program in Hiram if you struggle with mild to moderate addiction or have completed the residential treatment program. It is the step-down treatment plan for those who have undergone detoxification.
Tumblr media
The benefit of the IOP, Atlanta, is that you will get the same benefits of the residential treatment but in a less intensive way. People can attend work and school or fulfill any other obligation while taking the treatment.
The program consists of different therapies and counseling sessions so that people can learn other techniques and skills to reduce the chances of relapse. As sobriety is challenging, people can get cravings even after many years of treatment. So they are trained with the tools and techniques to manage these triggers.

Hey everyone. I feel like I've been very sporadic with my posts lately. I've got a lot of ideas and stories that I want to share with you, but I honestly just haven't had the time to write the way I want.
A lot of my WIPs are at the halfway mark, which is good. But the monkey wrench in all of this is that I signed myself up for another IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program).
It runs four days a week from 6-9pm and is (thankfully) only 6 minutes away from my job. So basically, these days I go to work and then I go to group therapy. Like almost every day.
It's a lot. But it's also good for me. But then again, so is writing. It's my outlet...argh!
I guess I just wanted to say that I'm doing the best I can right now. So please be patient and hopefully I'll have more content to share with you soon.
Love,
Britt ❤️
