mmmm high lord katsuki and new attendant reader…
he’s a cold man, with an icy stare and a fiery temper that is set off at the drop of a hat. the high lord katsuki has a reputation for being harsh on his peers and servants alike, though he has enough political sense to keep the peace.
he’s from an important family, born and bred with a silver spoon in his mouth and taught all of the niceties of good society. katsuki has read all of the classics and, in addition to an impressive family home (which he manages along with familial business), he has an extensive library, which he visits frequently.
you are low-born, only granted to opportunity of reading because your father taught you before he passed away. you’d been forced to find work when he passed and, by some stroke of luck, someone in the kitchens was willing to take you in and have you keep inventory for a small monthly salary. reading and writing comes in handy for that.
you consider yourself unlucky, however, at being noticed by katsuki’s first officer and personal attendant, kirishima, who happens to be of common birth with a position that should belong to a noble and thus, outranks you. well, just about everyone our ranks you. it’s him who recommends you for the “promotion” and lands you in katsuki’s personal office in the main house.
“my lord,” he says, stepping into the room with the comfort only a noble could have. “i’ve brought them.”
“who?” katsuki doesn’t raise his head. his voice is low and gravelly.
“the new serving staff, my lord,” he states. “the one from the kitchen inventory.”
katsuki looks up at this, his gaze unimpressed and unyielding. he looks you over for a moment, staring as if to size you up.
oh, he’s beautiful. it’s shameful thing to think of such a harsh man, but it’s the truth. he almost looks like a painting, with hard set eyes and round lips. you’d expected someone frightening, with harsh features and sharp, cutting proportions befitting of a man with rumors like the ones surrounding him. instead, the man who sits before you seems a prince with a slightly colder gaze. you suppose that his beauty is drowned out by the other rumors surrounding him.
“you said they could read?” katsuki snaps.
“yes, my lord,” he responds.
katsuki doesn’t comment on this, instead, he shifts his gaze to you and harshly barks a question.
“you’re willing to work?”
what does that matter? you don’t have much of a choice.
“yes, my lord.”
“very good,” katsuki says. “kirishima, see her to her quarters.”
kirishima excuses himself and you bow deeply and do the same. katsuki’s gaze lingers on you for a moment as you bow. it is so intense that you can almost feel the moment he tears it from you and returns to pouring over the papers in front of him. he does not look up again as you shut the door.
katsuki gives the impression that he is made of stone, stubborn and immovable. you imagine that his peers have trouble convincing him of anything and you briefly wonder, judging by the hard look he’d given you, if you’ll run into the same trouble.

A take I personally dislike is that it’s overpowering Lily to make her smart like Hermione - AKA to make her top of the class and good at everything.
I think this is rooted in sexism. It’s like, we can’t have two whole female characters who are geniuses, there can only be one (and both of them literally from different decades!)
How many male characters are there that are unquestioningly accepted as “top of the class, brilliant at everything geniuses”? Voldemort, Dumbledore, Grindelwald; and Snape, James, and Sirius are also often categorized similarly.
(Obviously none of them are actually brilliant at everything, they all have fields that they’re stronger and weaker in, etc.)
This is an even worse take since they’re both specifically Muggleborn women and their ability to live out their full intellectual potential was highly affected by the fascist violence they were subject to throughout their school years and beyond (well maybe Lily lived that out by defeating Voldemort…)
Hermione and Lily, while very different personality wise, were both geniuses, both creative, both top of their class brilliant students.
In fact their magic is somewhat similar, which you can read more about in my meta Hermione As Teacher And Connections To Lily - and especially apparent as I point out in the meta is that both don’t get credit for their work and are overshadowed by men because of a highly sexist and blood purist society.

Dnd Manual: Mindflayers use Intellect Devourers as hunting dogs. They're very big, they run around like a bunch of wolves in packs to tackle people and hijack the body.
Me: Mindflayers realized there was a much more profitable market for people looking for a weird exotic pet than doing the 500 other illegal things they were doing and now we got White Women putting walking brains in little jimjams.

Today on Pop Culture Addressed By Ancient Theologians: Does Free Guy synthesize the tension between will and intellect as the vehicles of ultimate human bliss as seen in Thomistic medieval theology?
#I’m Tired so my thoughts are jumbled but if the Franciscans were like the will ie act of love is the ultimate experience of happiness and#Aquinas was like um actually to will something means something is unfulfilled ie wanting and that’s not perfect#but perfect knowledge can be perfect because people want it for itself therefore intellect gives us happiness in contemplating God#yeah#does free Guy resolve that tension in its world view by going#freedom to choose is only present where love is present as the lens by which we see the world?#wait idk but like#Jody and the parallel world of Guy attain happiness not only when they will for love’s sake but when they see love#like there has to be the willing and eternal/constant/continual humming yes! of the will and the intellectual Knowing/Seeing the Love#idk too big for me#whatever else this is teaching me I’m naturally inclined toward the Franciscans#pov#like I get what St Thomas is saying and he definitely is making points but I’m like nerd. where is the love#and it is there of course but he gets so caught up in the understanding cause he likes to understand! that IS how he loves!#but im like if you haven’t used the word love at least 99 times in your principle statement what even are you#sgjhdsgovc#anyway the answer is it’s both and you can’t split the hairs too fine#but only to understand how they fit together#love is willing (yes!) and seeing (also saying yes!)#so when Pieper was like love is saying it’s good that you exist#it’s the assent to (with the will) and the seeing of (with the intellect)#idk processing processing lots of thoughts

some of yall have completely misconstrued what anti-intellectualism is and all you're doing is indirectly promoting more anti-intellectualism through your misdirection and it's so counterproductive. anti-intellectualism is a hostility or indifference toward knowledge or reasoning. anti-intellectualism is a deprecation of the value of art, culture and literature. anti-intellectualism is the rejection of critical thought. it is the reduction of creation and formal education to void capitalist products.
anti-intellectualism is NOT just enjoying things because they're fun or pleasing to you.

I wish people who claim that "anti intellectualism" is The Thing that is Bad about us would take a moment to consider if that's a good conclusion to come to that explains world problems and "zoomer brain rot" alike, and if they're truly as impressive as they think they are, like, at all
Tumblr users who post about anti intellectualism are welcome to discuss the matter with me but I know they'd rather just write a wordy clap back and block me and pat themselves on the back for it
Maybe it's just because every "pro intellectual" user ive seen or interacted with was an annoying mf and very obviously had the same degree of social media brain rot as the people they complain about being "whats wrong w society". Not to mention how much these people love to make irrelevant and illogical defenses to being called out for ableism. I don't know how to tell you that having personal struggles with privilege and disability doesn't preclude you from spreading your internalized ableism to other people on the Internet no matter how matter-of-fact and objective you want to sound when you do it

for forever i hated on the idea of fandom Meta (and Academia-esque works on fandom topics) bc I felt too dumb to understand any of it. Now I kinda wish I could get into making or writing Tolkien Meta (?) but I'm still, unsurprisingly, too dumb for that 😂
I'll just leave it to the smart fandom folk lol

Lrb sorry for hopping in again guys, my spider senses felt the injustice xD But anyways, yeah, can we please collectively agree to stop seeing Rom being called "stupid" as something bad or wrong? This is literally in the Japanese script that she has an (unspecified) severe intellectual disability. It is not a matter of semantics or localization, it is a Japanese word 白痴 (hakuchi).
Sorry, I am just really irritated that people treat it as an insult. I have a quite low intellectual abilities myself so when ya'll go like 'noooo don't be mean to her!!! >:(' I am just sitting here like..... Well, sorry that the concept of certain neurodivergencies angers you so much that you feel like you should '""protect""" Rom from it...? If you really are THAT attached to the headcanon of her being superstar best scholar that elboved Caryll and Micolash combined and had 500 IQ, you can still cope with her being called intellectually inferior in her Great One form specifically (like she sees so many things that she can't comprehend any of them, or got her brain sacrificed to become a tool for others).

If ignorance and passion are the foes of popular morality, it must be confessed that moral indifference is the malady of the cultivated classes. The modern separation of enlightenment and virtue, of thought and conscience, of the intellectual aristocracy from the honest and common crowd is the greatest danger that can threaten liberty.

The path of the sun is infinit.
Olé, innerdiminsional incanations to keep the -foul away. Keepin light at my brow the oldway. O'ye to my ancestors blowing back on the bays in the Astral plane sending symbols our way!
Say, see that infinit sway in the skies
Lit up by those o so celestial sun rays
Trust the process the ancient ones laid.
For on this path all is fair play. heartbeats
