You think monsters develop their leitmotifs as they get older. When they're young it's just kind of a mashup of their parents until it finally becomes their own once they're adults

unironically was gonna make that a whole arc if i ever made the daemo game. they're not an adult by the end of it obviously, but since their storyline deals HEAVILY with them growing past this blind idealization of their parents' pasts (as well as frisk's and that of the other adults around them), and into their own person, with their own friends and their own identity/story, their leitmotifs and musical themes closely reflect and follow that journey.

as for other characters... i don't think character themes are diegetically acknowledged by the story in the way other game elements are, at least outside of comedic 4th wall breaks such as Papyrus'.

however... if they were. considering that we do have an example of a child's theme, along with that of both of his parents, I'm afraid that's not the case. asriel's theme is kind of its own thing, after all. but like i said, i think leitmotifs serve the story, rather than act as an instory mechanic. those places where his theme features in other songs, it's asriel that ties them together by haunting undertale's narrative, not the reverse.

yes and this STRONGLY reinforces my point from that post years ago that an absolute inevitability of being on tumblr is, if you're here long enough, someone will accuse you of making a Homestuck reference. Because as it turns out the entirety of human experience is somewhere within Homestuck ala infinite monkeys infinite keyboards and you will eventually stumble across a reference you did not know you were making.

Unique - for all the ros, please. i know you did something similar in your 'pick this route if you like xyz'. but in an instory pov, what are unique or individual to them things that they do that makes them stand out [or just are subtle and soft] as a partner?

Jean/Jade is very meticulous. They're a perfectionist, and this translates into their relationships. When J dates someone they're very self-sacrificing in every way, shape and form. This stems from the fact that J is pretty stupid around their feelings lol (everything is rational and everything makes sense, but romance most certainly doesn't).

Uma’s uniqueness might as well be how detail-oriented they are. They also have a great memory (they're going to remember everything about their s/o, the good and the bad). Gift-giving might not be that high up as Uma's love language, but they do love to make sure their partner is appreciated (and to let them know that Uma's been thinking about them). They also give the best gifts🫂💕

For our n.2 self-sacrificing fool, Statler I’m going to choose both their resilience and their self-awareness. Statler is far from being perfect, but they've grown so much as a person since they were a teen. The amount of responsibility Statler carries and how much they love the people around them (taking care of them, being dependable for their sake). It comes with tons of stress (and Statler not being able to fully live their own life), but it's still admirable in a way.

Wanda stands out because of her emotional maturity alone lol (it's something very normal and very valid to ask in a partner, but she's the most emotionally stable out of all the ROs and that deserves to be acknowledged). Wanda rarely gets jealous, she's emotionally expressive, she's not demanding of her partner's time, she's supportive. Where can I find someone like her🧍

Lol Kai is such a mess they're a bit hard to define without spoiling anything. The way they've grown and the way they've viewed the world up to this point has been very unfair, and Kai genuinely doesn't know the first thing about having a healthy relationship. For Kai's unique feature, I'd choose their role in MC's life. They're the RO in whose route MC feels the most free/liberated.

Travis is also unsurprisingly hard to pinpoint. I think his bluntness makes him stand out. Travis' partner will never have to doubt him or his feelings, he's always going to be straightforward with what he believes and thinks. It might not be such a good thing all the time, but it is commendable when all the other ROs lie more often than not (due to various reasons ckskxk).

In order: Character problem, could be fixed with just a guillotine. Character problem, Alt!Callie is not a cosmic force, she is a loser with no friends who is also very bad at her job. Character problem and/or society problem, depending on if you want to blame capitalism or put the players in a guillotine. And as you said, thats a meta thing, not a cosmic instory force. Them being a collective dickhead does not a cosmic horror make. There is no creme to this oreo.

Alt Calliope is somewhat cosmic in that she had control in some narrative in Epilogues and in HS2/Beyond Canon. Taking over Jade's body and still monologuing her own thoughts. Doesn't help she is a Cherub like Caliborn. If Caliborn was able to reach to OP status via Lord English, I'm not surprise Alt Calliope is this for her. It's just people were too late too see Calliope's toxic positivity because she supposedly represents the good fandom. Meta is also part of theme within Homestuck too. It's been like that even in base webcomic. From commands, Gigapause, John's retcons, all of it had been important to the story. It is no different for Epilogues when Dirk killed himself if he couldn't control over a narrative and HS2/Beyond Canon where Ult Dirk seems to have control not only narrative, but people's emotions as well like he tried to do to Rose before realizing her feelings were of her own accord, not through manipulating her thoughts within the story. Some could say meta narrative is necessary for Homestuck to be Homestuck.

I saw one art in a tiktok about this, but now I'm fixated on the idea of Katsuki coming back to life as we all predict he will, but Izuku getting killed in the process of defeating AFO...

BUT also cheating death because of OFA and vestige shenanigans, telling him "he did well" and "its not your time", etc. And coming back to life finding himself held in the arms of an absolutely devastated Katsuki.

Would it be a little much to have BOTH of them cheat death in this battle? Maybe... but then again, it IS shonen anime where "get out of death free" cards are dime a dozen when it comes to the MC and/or magical properties of instory power systems.. i think OFA and Quirk nonsense could definitely have that potential here, even if death in MHA is often pretty consequential.

And if you think about it... BKDK has been mirroring each other and uno reversing this whole story. So like, is it too far off for each other to, in essence, die for the other one?

(And YES, bakugous inner monologuing about reaching Izuku, directed towards Izuku EVEN though he wasn't present, I kinda do count that as "dying for the other" because if that didn't read as an expression of devotion to Izuku, I don't know what would.)

And like... if he is killed or dies before he realizes Katsuki is back? What if we finally get Izukus *realization* and admission that Katsuki getting hurt has been the catalyst for EVERYTHING in his life and why that is? What if he admits that he lied about Black Whip and has been suppressing so many emotions about Katsuki since the first War and even prior. What if his inner monologuing looks as poignant about Katsuki as Katsukis did about him? And what if there's a moment of "Kacchan....The truth is, I...."

And Katsuki doesn't know this or hear it, perhaps, but when say OFA wakes him back up because it's purpose was fulfilled (and maybe the wills of all the vestiges combined to give their force to Izuku so he could continue living or some Quirk mumbo jumbo like that,)to Katsuki sobbing over him, thinking he was lost forever and there wasn't even anyone to take revenge out on anymore...they don't even say a word still but somehow their embrace is so tight and says everything anyway.(with expressions of feelings finally taking place in the aftermath and or epilogue of everything. )

Or, alternatively, maybe they DO say what they need to say, and maybe they DO kiss and then embrace. IDK, let's have high hopes, why the hell shouldn't we lmao.

Anyway just a dramatic little thought I have: what if they BOTH DIE.
