Malleus Draconia SR Halloween “Scary Outfit” Personal Story-This is...interesting

Part 1

Diasomnia Dorm- Lounge

Lilia- ....Here you are Malleus. I was looking for you.

Malleus- Lilia. What happened?

Lilia- There’s something I want to ask for.

Lilia- Would you decide on the disguise for Diasomnia this Halloween?

Malleus- Me? Why? Lilia did chosen it last year and 2 years ago.

Lilia- This year, in particular, I’m working as a steering committe member. I have to show up in the club activities .

Malleus- However, I don’t know what to do. I think there are more suitable people...

Lilia- No, only our Lord.

Lilia- Choosing a disguise means deciding Diasomnia theme for year.

Lilia- if its such an important thing...in my opinion, then I, or the dorm learder must decide.

Malleus- Does Lilia, who looks forward to halloween every year, decides the outfits for that reason?

Lilia- Kufufufu...Well, there is another reason.

Lilia- Its boring that I get to decide a costume every year.

Lilia- However, if the next king of the Valley of Thorns chooses, all diasomnia students will be curious.

Lilia- Of couse, I am too. How is it? Will you do it?

Malleus- ....All right. If Lilia says so, I will choose.

Malleus- Certainly, I will choose a ghost costume with various monsters caracteristics (Didn’t understand well,its literally translated as- Certainly, I was dressed in a ghost costume with various monsters as mortifs from each dorm)

Malleus- I will go to the library and try to find useful books.

Malleus- ....Well, what kind of disguise should I wear?

Malleus- Even if I choose a theme, it needs to be relatable with Diasomnia.

Malleus- A high-rank being is desirable, but....

Malleus- If I choose the dragon, Lilia will complain I should deviate a little more.

Malleus- If I look up local folklore from diferent regions, I may find information about creatures that you can’t find regularly.

Ortho- I’m certain there was never a costume with this concept in the history of Night Raven College before.

Malleus- Certainly he is a high-ranking being....

Malleus- However, if the body is all black, it will not stand out. Lilia would likely complain that it’s too plain.

Ortho- “Researching.....search completed”

Ortho- If that’s the case, then look. A headless horseman who rides trough the valley at night!

Ortho- A galloping horse swinging a sword! The red cloak stands out, dosen’t it?

Malleus- ....No, its no good.

Ortho- Eh!? Why?

Malleus- When it comes to reproducing its appearence that has no neck, The costume becomes too complicated.

Malleus- Besides, it would be difficult to prepare horses for all the students.

Ortho- I see....

Ortho- Reflecting the current information, the next image is...This!

Malleus- .....Oh? It’s quite small but, is this red being is.....a dragon?

Ortho- Oh? Dragon should have been omitted from the search since we looked it up before....Oh!

Ortho- This is not a dragon. (doragon is what they said, they mean the english version of dragons, lthe classics like maleficent one) Its a dragon! (”Ryuu” wich means dragon in japanese, they are refering to oriental dragons, like the one in Ramshackle dorm and the one from Dragon ball Z, chinese dragons basically)

Malleus- A dragon(ryuu)....A being that lives in the Far east and is sanctified by humans.

Malleus- It combines both strenghth and grace.....A dragon-like high ranking being....

Malleus- Above all, a being that I have never seen myself...

Malleus- Alrigh, I decided. The costume of Diasomnia will be a dragon (ryuu)

Malleus- Detailed information is needed create the costumes. Can you search for it?

Ortho- Yeah! Leave it to me!

Lilia- Its has such a sophisticated design, but its really collorful....I like it!

Lilia- Looks like it was the right choice, leaving you decidde the costumes.

Lilia- I would have never guessed you would use a Far eastern dragon as a motif...

Malleus- Its not a dragon.

Malleus -Dragons and dragons are different, from appearence to abilities, the kind of horns and the lack of wings....they only look similar on the surface.

Lilia- Hahahah wow! Its like how you said. You managed to do so susch a good research in a short period of time. You are such a prefecionist

Malleus- It was thanks to the yougest shroud. He did a good job

Malleus- Though...I didn’t understand at all how he did it. (*pat pat* its alright, its alright, u are perfect just like that)

Lilia- Well, the costumes are perfect, lets give them to the dorm members.

Malleus- Ah. This year’s halloween we’ll bring more fear than before.

So as I suspected, that tail is REAL ,Malleus confirms it in one of his lines.

Also XD when Sebek and Silver were little they’d wet the bed on the halloween because Lilia would always scare them, Diasomnia is one big family and I just love it

Writing Tag Game

Thanks for the tag @cleverblackcat and @tejaswrites!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

12 as of now, though some of them are parts of the same story and I might weave them all in a single work one day, but I decided to split them due to time skips and changes in tone. I don’t know when I’ll be able to bridge all the gaps but I still wanted to share what I wrote, so I ended up creating a series with a couple of installments.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

4. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes, I do respond to almost every comment and I really appreciate receiving them. When someone comments on certain aspects of the story, I usually try to explain some of my choices, like why I decided for that character to react in such a way, why I deviated from the canonical storyline, or why I included those lore tidbits. It allows me to share my perspective, my reasons for writing the story in the first place.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Well, I have started writing an alternative storyline for my Avvar Inquisitor, Vatna, in which she becomes a part of the Jaws of Hakkon, which ought to be super angsty, but it has no ending yet.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Do limericks count? They’re fun but each is five verses long.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I had, in fact, the first fic that I wrote was a crossover between Dragon Age and Puella Magi - it’s just not published on AO3 and probably never will. It's pretty crazy, that’s for sure, given how wildly different those two pieces of media are, though strangely, I found a few of thematic parallels that compelled me to explore them for a while.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, and I hope I’ll be spared from it. My writing is not perfect by any means, and I do welcome constructive criticism and corrections, but I probably wouldn’t deal well with hate comments. Mustering motivation to write fics is hard enough as it is.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

No, not really. I have written some scenes that focused on sexual interactions, but they weren’t quite smutty, if that makes sense, as the POV character is a sex-indifferent asexual.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No. I write in English, even though it isn’t my native tongue, so I could probably translate my own fics if I wanted, but I didn’t feel like it so far. If someone approached me with an offer to translate my fic into a language I don’t speak, I’m not sure what my reaction would be, as I’d like to know how they present my characters in the translated version. Translation is a tricky craft, and there are many ways to express a single concept. Sometimes, a translated work has a completely different tone from the original.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yeah, I wrote Fool's Gold with Toshi Nama as a part of Discord server collaboration, in which her Warden, Farin Brosca, and my Inquisitor, Vatna Einarsdotten, meet up to investigate a red lyrium smuggling operation in the Frostback Mountains. It was a fun challenge!

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I’m not sure, I don’t focus on shipping that much.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I probably won’t get back to finish my unpublished crossover xD But I enjoyed thinking about the possibilities, and I did have the general storyline thought out, but I don’t think I could finish it. For one, it would take a lot of time and motivation that I don’t have, and if I ought to pick a project I would like to see till the end, it’s the story of my Avvar girl.

15. What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told my worldbuilding is well-thought out. I do have the benefit of writing fanfiction, so there’s no need to built a world from ground up, but I do expand upon what’s presented in the original work, and I greatly enjoy it. I wonder a lot about the unexplored details, like when I’m writing about the Avvar, I imagine what kind of holidays they could celebrate, what cultural taboos they might observe, what is their main source of food, how their families could be structured, little things like that, which, hopefully, create a compelling picture together.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

My pacing is probably not that great, when I think about what I’d like to write, I don’t really ensure that each story beat is nicely spaced out, that there are no sudden accelerations or decelarations of plot. I do have a general plotline in my head, for the most part, but when it comes to writing, I focus on individual chapters.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it has its time and place, but I believe it should be done sparingly. I wouldn’t be excited to read a super long dialogue in a language different from the one that the work is written in, and I won’t include such things in my fic. It disrupts the flow and doesn’t benefit the story very much, in my opinion. If it’s necessary for the plot or characterization to show that someone speaks in another language, I think it’s enough to use a foreign word or a phrase from time to time, hint at its meaning through context, and describe how the communication barrier affects the characters.

My main character, Vatna, does alternate between her native tongue (Avvar, which is I represent as Icelandic/Old Norse) and a second language (Common Tongue, which for all my intents and purposes is equivalent to English) so I do include some lines in a different language, but I keep them short. Usually, it’s just a single word whose meaning can be easily inferred from the surrounding text. More often than not, I signify the language barrier through other means. Sometimes, Vatna slips into her native tongue for a longer moment, and she may even have conversations with her fellow Avvar, but the actual dialogue remains in English (i.e. Common) - instead, I use the narration to show that the language barrier is ever present, like describing the reaction of accompanying characters.

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

My favourite is Mirrors and Braids, a part of the Saga of the Avvar-Daughter series, which focuses on Vatna’s reaction to the loss of her arm. Though it’s not really a “fun” story by any means, I am quite fond of it. It was somewhat cathartic to write.

9- Are there any fics you'd love to see but don't want to write yourself? What are they?

Always. I feel that writing in a language that is not my own limits a lot what I want to say all the time. So, fix-it fics, multichapter, with several canon characters, all interacting one another in complex situations, while following an original meta plot (but still inserted in the canon of the world) written in a decent nice English? Hell yeah. I want those fics xD but I know I'm unable to write them.

10 - Who has been your favourite character to write about in The Warmth Found by the Campfire? What do they bring to the fic?

Gale. Always. I tend to write fics more because the non-original characters than the original ones, ironically. If inside the canon there is a char I think it can work with another canon char, I would prefer to write a fic with those canon chars instead of an OC. Writing ocs is exhausting, so much work, gods. And people in general don't like them anyway. Gale is a char that allows you explore maturity and forgiveness in ways that are different to a “redeem” arc in my opinion. Gale is a char about accepting his mistakes, owning them, acknowledging them, and fighting to not make it worse, but never truly believing that he deserves forgiveness in the end, even though he wishes for it. It's a complicated (and more real) interaction with the abstract concept of forgiveness.

It's also a char about forgiving himself for his own mistakes, for his own naivety. And he is also a typical “scientist” char: you always have to accept to deal with risks that new knowledge may bring. Every act of discovery means risks. And this sometimes can go very wrong.

But Gale has something unique for me: unlike the typical “wizard” you find in most dnd settings, Gale is not a “heartless and cold char, all logic and facts”. He is about facts and accuracy, sure, but he also has open arms to embrace emotions, and due to them he has mistaken severely, but he still accepts them because they are part of human nature. And if there is something that Gale loves a lot it is life and the mundane things that make humans such weird creatures. Gale is to me the first time I see a videogame wizard character who is not a condescending asshole, who had turned his heart into steel because “logic”, and has more a teacher attitude than a “I'm superior to you” attitude. He is proud of all what he knows because he worked hard for it, but he won't make you feel like a shit for not doing that (unless you are mistreating him, in that case, he will destroy your soul xD). I think he brings to the fic the concept that even the most logical and methodical people can mistake. That emotions can go hand-to-hand with logic, living in the dichotomies they arise. And that mistakes are not always because “you are evil”. Sometimes are caused by ignorance or any other reason without ill-intent. Sometimes mistakes are also done even if he tries not to make them, but his own bad habits and conditioned responses betray him.

12 - Why did you choose to write The Warmth Found by the Campfire ? How long have you been working on it?

The reason was basically Gale. I love his char for all the reason stated previously. I never saw a kind char with so much logic attached to him without making them an asshole. I know Dragon Age has mages that may follow this description, but Mages in Dragon Age are not wizards. They are what in dnd is a sorcerer. They don't need to bleed their eyes studying to obtain magic, they just burn their houses down in their childhood, lol. They are born with it. On the other hand, wizards are really a product of their own effort, hours of their lives just sitting and reading books combined with hours of practice. It's all about effort, self-discipline, and mental endurance. This is why they tend to be written as characters with arrogance that sometimes is very destructive to those around them. It's a trope that was getting old to me. With Gale, I got something new I liked. There is also the tempting challenge of writing not just one, but two (including Chardry)! chars smarter than me! And make them interact to see who smarts who.... gods... That's hard, but I always feel stimulated by challenges. I only hope I can deliver something decent. Sometimes I feel it’s very far from my ability.

And... ironically, I wrote this fic super fast. I started a month after the EA game was released. In less than a month I had all 14 chapters in a very rough draft version. I used 3 months more or so to polish it... and then it's all about betareaders XD During all this time I just polish over and over the chapter I'm going to give to my beta so they can work less... hopefully XD. Which is never the case, because ughh, English. But yeah. And this is the first fic I'm writing in this style: doing the whole first part in EA, spreading a decent amount of blind foreshadowing in it, and hoping that once the game is released, I can continue the second part and be able to use all those small foreshadowing previously written. XD Let's see how that experiment goes.

Not that anyone asked (but seriously I’d LOVE for someone to talk to me about PokeSpe (just no spoilers past vol 13)) but since I made an offhand remark about my Top 5 favorite characters, it occurred to me that I actually DO have approximately 5 top favorite characters, and I’m procrastinating on work, so I’m gonna ramble

**just in case, note that a lot of this will revolve around my childhood experience with gender in a “I’m AFAB (and present-day me still identifies as a cis girl) but I don’t fit in with what media is telling me girls are like” way, a brief childhood feeling of homophobia, and probably general TMI about my opinions and emotions throughout my life, haha

1. Yellow

Okay, so, I was a little kid when Pokemon Adventures started coming out in English, back when manga was released as single-issue monthly comic books instead of complete volumes. So I was rereading the same chapters over and over while anxiously awaiting the rest of the story (and wound up missing a bunch of issues anyway)

I enjoyed the RGB arc, I thought it was fun, but I didn’t LOVE the series until Yellow showed up. At that age my ideal crush was “a cute boy my age who would be nice to me” and Yellow was presented to the reader as a cute boy my age who was sweet and kind and gentle, but also good in a fight, as all shounen protags must be. Extra bonus points because they had just a few physically weak Pokémon and tried to fight battles in a way that minimized damage to their own and the opponent’s Pokémon, which meant they fought in a particularly smart and clever way. And I was considered “smart” for being good at school, so being a SMART cute “boy” my age who would be nice to me, Yellow was PERFECT. I mean, I loved the arc in general because of the clever battles, and the mystery of what had happened to Red, why these people were after Pikachu, why Yellow was so secretive about themself and their mission, etc was really engaging. But also I adored Yellow as a character and partly in a “I wonder if ‘he’ would like me??” kind of way X’D So to my tiny child self who didn’t even know it was possible to like-like someone of the same gender (because I hadn’t read Cardcaptor Sakura yet XD ), the reveal that Yellow was a “girl” was devastating—I had to cross out floating hearts on at least one drawing of us holding hands (scandalous!) and, while kind of stunned and shaken for a while, decided that what I’d felt all along was a deep, intense desire to be friends X’D (which probably wasn’t too far from the truth since I was pre-puberty and later turned out to be asexual)

(Also note that I never got the RGB issue that had the chapter where Red helps a little ‘girl’ capture a Rattata—later proven to be Yellow’s backstory—so the gender reveal really came out of nowhere for me.)

But anyways, I still love Yellow as a character for all the above reasons, without the crush aspects because I’m way older than them now.

Also when I reread the series ten years ago, I finally realized “wait, aside from surprising the reader, there’s no real plot reason for Yellow to pretend to be a ‘boy’ except that Green told ‘her’ to—so why did ‘she’ do it?”...and because at that time I didn’t even know that nonbinary genders existed, I decided it was cus they had low self-esteem and pretending to be a different person gave them courage (the same reading I had for Mulan at the time). These days I’m more inclined to “yeah, I think Yellow’s nonbinary,” but that other interpretation was deeply relatable to me and only made me love Yellow even more.

2. Bill

Bill’s definitely a character I’ve grown to love more as an adult, since I’ve gone from seeing myself as “a protagonist doing cool things” to “a side character just living their life who hopefully gets to do something once in a while.” But as a kid and now, I like him mostly for the slapstick and goofy expressions and the (early chapters Viz translations) outrageous accent X’D My brain desperately craves endorphins and the best way to get em is through a good laugh.

But also, I liked that he was introduced as a goofy character-of-the-week who got into ridiculous trouble and had to be rescued, but then kept being brought back, was slowly built up to be the “smart sidekick who explains things,” and eventually got to the point where he was participating in big battles (the Yellow finale on Cerise Island). I rambled about this in the tags of another post, but I liked that he was a character who was “weak” without being “useless.” As a kid who was good at school, I was obsessed with being good at things and had developed a black-and-white view of the world where either you were “strong/smart” or “weak/stupid” to the point that failing or just being not-so-good at anything was devastating (it still kind of is), because that meant I was actually “weak/stupid” when I was supposed to be “strong/smart.” So it was kind of awesome that this guy who kept getting into trouble and having to be rescued—and didn’t even want to BE part of the final battle—managed to hold his own and get through it and help out instead of being a burden that dragged everyone down. Seriously, he used a MAGIKARP effectively—the Pokémon everyone makes fun of for being “useless” and he used its one attack to save his life!

(Bonus points for all this happening in contrast to my devastating childhood experience of stanning The One Girl Character in every popular shounen series, waiting desperately for her to get to do something in battle, and then her one spotlight episode revolved around her struggling because she was so weak...not only was that actually happening to a boy for once, it was actually happening in a more satisfying/empowering way :’D )

3. Gold

I have extremely specific tastes when it comes to “the dumb shounen/action movie protag,” because as a kid I hated it when the main character was “dumb” because I was “smart” (re: good at school) and people who were “dumb” shouldn’t deserve to be the main character and have all the cool powers and save the world and stuff. As an adult, I hate it when male characters are dumb and/or jerks but it’s treated as fine or even sexy(??) and the other characters fawn over them, and I generally still kind of hate it when characters who are dumb and/or jerks get the big important role when there’s a female character RIGHT THERE who’s more competent (and OF COURSE she has to wind up falling in love with him)

But anyway, I have extremely specific tastes, and Gold is it X’D He’s the perfect combination of “unshakably confident in his own stupid/egotistic views” and “treated as annoying and/or comic relief by the rest of the cast” with a bonus dash of actually being really clever in battle (so my inner child goes “Ah yes, technically, he is ’smart,’ and therefore...worthwhile“) Making me laugh while also impressing me is like the key to my heart.

4. Crystal

I’m too lazy to look it up, but when Viz was publishing Pokemon Adventures as monthly comics, they must have switched to publishing it as trade paperbacks only and/or had a huge gap between the end of Yellow and the start of GSC, because for YEARS I’d thought Yellow was the end of the series and was shocked the first time I saw later volumes. (My dad was buying us the monthly issues at the local comic store, and either they wouldn’t have ordered the trade paperbacks or he wouldn’t have thought to check those shelves.)

Anyway, that’s a long lead-in to the statement of “Crystal would automatically be my #1 or #2 if I’d read her arc as a kid.” She’s a girl, she wears pants, she’s EXTREMELY smart (genius-level “book-smarts” about every Pokémon’s behaviors and weaknesses PLUS being clever in a battle), was tough as nails (she KICKED her Pokéballs!!), had no interest in romance or her appearance, AND had a short arc about losing her confidence and training herself back up to full power. I would have KILLED for a character like that when I was a little girl being told that “girls don’t like action shows like Dragon Ball Z” (but I was a girl and I did???) and that girls were supposed to be pretty and obsessed with fashion and dating, and that girls were never the main character of action series, just side characters who either did nothing or got one chance to do something and were pathetically weak (see above, and/or Sakura’s fight against Ino (Naruto), those couple filler eps where Téa/Anzu played Duel Monsters (Yu-Gi-Oh), Videl getting pummeled by Spopovich (DBZ), etc).

So anyway, she’s awesome, she’s exactly the type of character I would’ve loved as a kid. The only reason she’s behind Gold here is because at my age, “makes me laugh” > “the kind of main character I used to wish I could be”

5. Green (the girl trainer...I’m just too loyal to the Viz version to call her “Blue”...)

I’m trying not to rehash the same “I’m a girl but none of the girls in my shows/comics are like me!” childhood woes over and over, haha, but as much as I always enjoyed Green for being extremely clever and outsmarting the boys and being funny when she did so, she always lost points with me for being “pretty” and flirting to get her way, because that put her in the box of “girls are supposed to be pretty and desired by boys and obsessed with their appearance and romance” that was so foreign and disheartening to me as a kid.

But her staredown with Ho-oh at the end of the GSC arc TOTALLY got me. As a sad adult with anxiety, watching characters who are absolutely terrified overcome their fear, watching characters who are completely beaten down struggle back to their feet and keep fighting, is like my ultimate power fantasy. That sequence genuinely had me in tears.

Also her bond with Silver is super precious, especially since that’s like the first time in the series we’ve seen her be genuinely emotional and vulnerable with someone instead of teasing or manipulating them.

Honorable mention: Sapphire

I haven’t gotten up to R/S in my reread yet, and I only read that arc once over like a weekend ten years ago, but I’m pretty sure she’s gonna be a Top Fave cus again there’s that “I'm not like other girls!” childhood feel (last time I’m saying it, I promise)

It’s a story arc where one protag wants to fight the gyms and the other protag wants to win the beauty contests, but the one who wants to fight the gyms is the girl!! And she’s the typical “dumb but extremely good at fighting” shounen protag but she’s the girl!! She’s feral and illiterate and a total tomboy and wins all her fights and she’s a GIRL!!!!

So I recently bought the remastered version of Dragonball GT on DVD and I am LOVING it. I’ve been dying to see the English voices paired with the Japanese music and it did not disappoint. I’ve missed GT, it’s my favorite of the Dragon Ball series (and yes, I’m aware of how unpopular that is) but it’s so nostalgic for me! GT was my first fandom, back when the internet was new and youtube hadn’t yet grown into the monster it is now.

I’m going to talk about GT now. Please read with an open mind and respect my opinion!

I honestly still prefer some of the characterizations to what we have in Super. It’s nice to see a Goku who isn’t obsessed with being the strongest ‘just cause.’ It’s nice to see a mellowed but still cranky Vegeta, even if he isn’t in the series all that much (which really is a shame.) I even like the variation in Trunks’ and Goten’s personalities! Maybe they have gotten a little soft but I like that angle too! It’s different, and honestly, we can’t really expect Universe 7 Trunks to grow up exactly like his alternate future self. Different experiences, right? To be honest, I think I like his GT personality better XD; (I know I know, another unpopular opinion but he’s such a frazzled mess, I can’t help it.)

I love Pan too. Yes she’s a little overly aggressive but so were a lot of female characters in Shonen series during that time (the late 90s.) I like that they added a female saiyan to the main cast - it meant SO much to me in middle school. If she’d just become a damn SUPER SAIYAN I’d have very little complaints about this show. Seriously. Why didn’t that happen? (I know why it supposedly didn’t but why hasn’t it happened in the 20 years since GT aired??)

Oh and Super Saiyan Four? SO cool. I definitely prefer it to what we have in Super (I know I know, don’t come after me!) It’s different - so different and I really appreciate that. You can tell just by looking at Goku in that form that he’s powerful, you don’t have to suspend any disbelief, looking at a Super Saiyan with differently colored hair (although I admit, Super’s Ultra Instinct is cool.)

On that note, I’d forgotten how strange it was to watch a DB series that doesn’t include a lot of transformations. It’s honestly a little refreshing, looking back as an adult. I’m sure it was jarring when the series first came out - wondering why Goku didn’t use his super saiyan transformation until episode 7 and Trunks until, what, 9 or 10? I’m still rewatching it. The first sixteen episodes were withheld from Funimation’s dub until later, so I didn’t experience any jarring adjustment. I know that’s why they weren’t released for a while but darn all, I LIKED the focus on adventure and character relationships. The battles in Z, at least the Z that aired in the early 2000s, were unbearably long. I still haven’t seen it in full, but I have read the manga.

I also prefer the tone of GT to Z. It’s a little more melancholic, romantic in the old sense of the word and also darker. I know a lot of people didn’t like that, but I tend to write tragic stories myself so it appeals to me. Even watching the first arc (which is my still my favorite) there’s a tone of finality in the music, including the opening theme. GT was meant to be the end of this franchise, after all. I like that about the series too. It was building towards something, something greater than the next Big Bad Foe. If only it were orchestrated a little better...

That’s really where GT falls short. There were so many little ways to improve this series, to make it stand out more than it did and the creative team just didn’t come through. Turning Goku back into a kid worked well in the beginning, but by the end, the audience was a little tired of it. He should have returned to adult form after Piccolo’s death (a cancellation of the wish kind of thing.) If he had been an adult for the last arc, I think “Goku Time” might’ve been more widely accepted. Also, as I said, Pan should have become a super saiyan, considering she was the only other protagonist by the end. Some of the blackstar dragons were strong enough for her to handle in a super saiyan form, which would’ve reduced the amount of times she was saved by Goku. I’m pretty sure that was a result of the era GT was written, as I said, but still. Pan deserved better.

Also Trunks should’ve stayed a main character, and if not, he should’ve been replaced by Vegeta or Goten or even a few characters. There are so many great ones to choose from and this timeline had a lot to explore. I never really understood why the Son and Briefs family stood by while Goku and (For a time) Vegeta took on Omega Shenron. It would’ve been the perfect opportunity to bring back Gotenks, see Gohan tap into his power reserves at last...like yes, Omega was scary-strong but still! So many “should haves” in this series...

All of this said, I still love GT. It really was beautiful in a lot of ways and the ENDING gets me. I didn’t like it when I first saw it but that’s really just because of the issues mentioned above. Goku’s death - his last death - was a bold move and poetic in a lot of ways. It’s kind of bittersweet to imagine a Dragon Ball world that continues in peace instead of constantly falling into danger. It may not hit the nostalgia button like Super but it wasn’t trying to appeal to all of us adult fans. It wanted to be different, it tried to be different and at least in that regard it succeeded.

TL;DR I love GT and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Fruits Basket Screening Details & Thoughts (Dub Version)

Cast Interviews - Japanese

This was with Manaka (Tohru), Nobunaga (Yuki), and Yuma (Kyo). The cast is cute and super funny! These were just the questions I remember finding interesting. They also talked a lot about love for the fans all over the world and in America. They thought it was amazing that there was a promo image in Times Square for Fruits Basket because that’s the “big leagues”.

When did you get introduced to Fruits Basket?

They all three admitted it was during the audition process that they first read/watched Fruits Basket and it was a funny moment. They LOVE the manga now though and you can tell they’ve all read the whole thing and really get it by the references they make and how they discuss the story!

If you could transform into an animal of the Zodiac (or cat) what would you choose?

Manaka - A cat. She watches videos of cats and thinks they’re peaceful.

Nobunaga - A dragon BUT not a Fruits Basket seahorse dragon ;)

Yuma - Also a cat. They can climb high and get to places lol

Which character do you identify with the most/are you most like?

Manaka - She was very humble saying that she aspires to be Tohru, but she’s actually “filthy!” The other cast said she is basically Tohru and it was really cute.

Nobunaga - KAKERU (!!!) He said Kakeru is relatable and a good friend. He also admires Yuki and thinks he’s cool and loves that Yuki does a lot of growth and tries his best.

Yuma - Momiji! The others agreed, saying he is sensitive to always making people feel included and also can be silly like Momiji.

Any funny/interesting stories from recording sessions?

They just talked about Yuma eating food all the time and eating a lot lol

Cast Interviews - English

To be honest...this is all a bit fuzzy because randomly while the cast/director were talking about Fruits Basket’s comeback they were showing clips from the first 2 episodes and we were all losing our minds and squealing and stuff O.O

They interviewed the cast that voices Haru, Shigure, Yuki, Kyo, and director Caitlin Glass. They were mostly gushing about Laura Bailey, talking about the fans, how once in a while there would be a paper crane movement, or letter writing campaign to get more Furuba anime made. They’re so happy to finally be doing this. Jerry talked about having 20-something year old fans saying they watched Furuba when they were young. They’re all just super excited basically!

They were playing a song in the background that I am pretty sure must be the ending song :D

The Episodes (spoilers!)

Episode 1 was chapter 1, episode 2 was chapter 2 & 3. To me, it felt rushed, not because they actually rushed anything, but just because in the 2001 anime, we don’t get some of this content until episode 3. Although I do feel like they cut away from scenes more quickly, which maybe contributed to this.

Everyone sounds older. No dancing around it. I knew this would be the case and tried to mentally prepare, but it’s so hard to get used to!

Laura’s voice sounds a lot older and I think she tried to compensate by giving Tohru an even more bubbly tone.

Shigure just sounds like he’s in his 40′s instead of his 20′s.

A lot more of Eric’s natural deeper voice comes through now and he definitely doesn’t sound like a teenager. When Shigure and Yuki have dialogue especially, it’s strange because it sounds like two middle aged men talking. I think his voice is going to take the most getting used to.

Kyo’s voice is the closest to the same I would say, thankfully!

My favorite voices were probably the new additions. I loved Uo and especially Hana, they were fantastic!!

Everyone’s names are pronounced with a more Japanese style I would say. Although I can appreciate it, I don’t personally like it, especially when there are already so many other changes to get used to, but it is what it is. The biggest pronunciation difference being Akito. It’s like “Awwcky-Toe”, but in my head I kept thinking “Icky Toe” whenever Akito’s name was said lol so “Icky Toe” is gonna be my new nickname of choice for our Sohma leader xD

I really wish they had just used the honorifics (especially when they’re already pronouncing the names more accurately) because Tohru addressing Yuki as just “Sohma” is weird imo, but I do like Yuki addressing Tohru as Miss Honda and it means we’ll get the satisfaction of her calling him Yuki.

The detail in the animation and the fleshed out backgrounds and surroundings are so great! Everything is so beautiful!

The loudest cheer in my theater by far was when Kyo came through the roof :’) And soooo much tension/squeals when Kyo realized he accidentally hit Tohru with the table. And then when Kyo and Yuki fought the first time--so much excitement. Basically WE ALL LOVE KYO.

There wasn’t a whole lot of humor. It’s much more serious overall, though there are still a few great humorous lines. We were constantly laughing in the theater, but that was pretty much due to us all knowing and loving the characters.

The music was good--it has a similar feel to the 2001 version I think.

Kyo being all cute and blushing around Tohru is just the greatest okay

I love how in the manga Kyo jumps from the second floor, the 2001 anime the third floor, and now it’s the fourth floor and he does AIR SOMERSAULTS on the way down.

Seeing little rat Yuki in a flashback was the saddest cutest thing ever.

The dialogue overall is sooooo much more manga accurate.

I love that they kept in details like clearly showing the hat and hat flashback, Hana curling Tohru’s hair, the cooking class.

Final Thoughts

As much as I love and support the English voice cast, I might have to switch to the sub :’( It’s just a bit too jarring for me. Maybe once I can watch it alone (and watch it multiple times) without an audience I’ll get used to it. I’m looking forward to experiencing the sub tomorrow.

Everything looks beautiful this time around! I’m still kind of concerned it’s a little too cutesy though and will need to see some darker moments to really establish my opinion here.

The dialogue is so much more accurate to the manga, which is great. I’m of the opinion that sometimes the dialogue in the 2001 anime flowed better though and was an improvement on the manga, so I’m sad to see some things go, but I know that’s an unpopular opinion.

Seeing this in a theater full of fellow fans who just get it was probably the best part of this whole thing. I loved that we all laughed and loved it together.

6. What book/s can you not live with out?- I don’t think there are any. I feel like I would have just found other books that I would have loved just as much instead. Boring answer, I know!10. What popular book do you just hate?- The first book that comes to mind is one I didn’t necessarily hate, but based on all the hype surrounding it I was just disappointed to a degree where it just really annoys me at this point.That’d be A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. I just found every aspect of this book really underwhelming. I didn’t care about any of the characters, the story was really generic, the worldbuilding felt pretty lackluster, the villains were groanworthy levels of Evil for the sake of Evil and I was just really bored throughout most of it. I could also mention The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman as popular books I really, really didn’t like. 25. Pick the 23 book on your bookshelf, open it to the 86 page and find the 13th line. Type it out for us.- I already did this one, but I skipped all Swedish books. So this time I included my Swedish books, and then just picked the first book in English after the one I landed on, leaving me with this line from Love Devours: Tales of Monstrous Adoration by Sarah Diemer: “Something strange happened then, as if the cave walls moved in closer, or perhaps Mariana herself moved, because everything around me seemed to tilt and spiral…”Do you have a favorite book cover? - I can’t say I have one specific favourite cover of all time, there are just too many beautiful covers out there, and they’re all beautiful in so many different ways! Also, most of them I haven’t read, so I couldn’t possibly answer your follow-up question! Like, for example, I really love this cover for Descendant of the Crane by Joan He (which I haven’t read yet but I really should):

What I can do I guess is pick *a* cover I like of a book I’ve read, or at least partially read. Sooo… I’m gonna go with The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon:

I think it’s a gorgeous cover, all that orange is just absolutely beautiful. Also, the text and dragon, at least on some versions like the paperback I own, are all in this shiny, metallic blue, like so:

Very pretty ♥Do you like or dislike the contents of that book?- I’m only 136 pages into it so far (out of about 800), but so far I’m really enjoying it! Is there a cover that you strongly dislike or it makes you feel embarrassed?- The first thing that comes to mind are those hideous Southern Vampire Mysteries covers which I absolutely hate with a passion! XD

But I haven’t actually read a single one of them, so I can’t really judge their actual content. Looking through my own bookshelves, I found this hideous Swedish cover of The Secret History by Donna Tartt:

Those eyes are going to haunt my nightmares! WHY?!Do you like or dislike the contents?- I had some mixed opinions, but overall I enjoyed it. Kinda fell apart a bit for me toward the end. Is there a book you can’t stand by an author you like?- Hmm… Does Harry Potter and the Cursed Child count? Cause that was a complete trainwreck. (I know J.K. Rowling didn’t actually write it, and to be fair, I don’t know if I’d necessarily say I like her as an author, I just like the original Harry Potter series, but it’s the best I can think of)But uh. yeah, I have a bit of a hard time answering this, because I don’t necessarily tend to latch onto certain authors and read all of their books. A lot of the time I read a book or two by an author, or there’s a particular series I’m into (see Harry Potter or A Song of Ice and Fire) but I don’t really read all of their other work. I don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Is there a book you enjoyed by an author who you don’t like?This is hard to answer for the same reason as stated above (plus I don’t tend to read several books by an author I don’t like) but, hm… I’ve never really been able to get into Neil Gaiman as an author, despite trying several times. I did quite enjoy Good Omens, although that feels a bit like cheating since it was a collaboration. I guess I didn’t dislike Coraline? That ended up really long! Sorry! Do you get asks?: Not really. Just a few here and there.

How did you get the idea for your URL?: It’s one of those names that I can get across multiple platforms. I always like the name Nat. No, it’s not short for anything. And my real name isn’t Nat either. Sora is well, sky in Japanese. I like the way it sounded so why not tag them together?

Followers: 76, I have got a whole bunch of new followers recently. No idea why.

I follow: Way more than 76. It’s 180 now.

Average hours of sleep: According to my sleep tracker, it’s almost 7 hours. My average was much better before until I found fanfic.

Lucky number: 12, not lucky per se but more like my favourite number. 12 in Japanese sounds like my English name. It’s my number in class when I was in school too. I just have a great affinity for that number.

Instruments: Guitar, if you can even count that. I can’t even do bar chords. And it’s been a long time since I last touched a guitar.

What are you wearing?: A comfy loose black t-shirt and loose pastel green shorts.

Dream job: Basically to not work at all but that’s just wishful thinking. I enjoy my job now. It gives me the money, time and friends that I want to pursue things outside of work. It can be frustrating at times but what work isn’t.

Dream trip: I want to visit the US. I want to see the Grand Canyon. I want to see Monument Valley. The US is a big place and there are so many things to visit and see there. I also want to visit London, France, maybe the Swiss Alps too. There are just too many countries to visit.

Favorite food: I love Japanese food a lot. Tempura is my favourite. If we are talking about

Significant other?: None but I am looking. It’s a frustrating thing of my life.

Last book I read: « Beyond the Empire by K. B. Wagers. Love the trilogy.

Dragon Review: I Am Dragon

So yesterday I posted I picture of a movie that grabbed my attention whilst shopping at Walmart. Two things in particular caught my interest. The first was (obviously) the dragon on the cover. The second was the claim that the story was like “Game of Thrones meets Beauty and the Beast”. Since it was the comparison to two of my favorite stories plus the image of dragon that convinced me to buy the movie, let’s examine all three:

Is it like Game of Thrones? No. The only resemblance this movie has to Game of Thrones is that both have dragons. That’s it. Someone really needs to tell whoever made this claim that there is more to GoT than dragons (but honestly dragons are more than enough for me XD).

Is it like Beauty and the Beast? Yes. The stories aren’t beat for beat the same, but there are more than enough similarities for me to say that this comparison is a fair one. I Am Dragon is, above all, a romance. It’s about a girl falling in love with both the human and beastly (dragon) side of a man. It’s a story about a girl loving the entire being of a man. It’s a story about a man learning to love every part of himself.

Dragon. How much? As some already guessed yesterday, the dragon in his winged form doesn’t get much screen time. This is somewhat understandable, as CGI can get quite expensive. Many of the scenes starring the dragon are also darker, set in a cave or flying in the midst of the storm, making it hard to see the whole of his body clearly.

The CGI as a whole however, was pretty well done. Not as good as the CGI in GoT or Beauty and the Beast, but a whole lot better than typical B-grade monster movies, which is what I was expecting. I especially like how the dragon’s transformations were visualized.

As a story about a dragon, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The movie subverts the traditional tale about a princess kidnapped by a dragon and rescued by a brave knight. Instead, the princess falls in love with the dragon and the “brave knight” turns out to be a shallow jerk. I felt the romance between the dragon, Arman, and the princess, Mira, was very sweet, if a bit sappy. My favorite point in the development of their relationship is when Arman teaches Mira to “see” the wind by throwing flower petals in the air.

Another aspect that I felt was explored well was Arman’s conflict between his dragon and human sides. He initially fears and loathes his draconic nature due to his ancestors’ violent history with humans, and instead of trying to control his transformations, he traps himself in a crevice whenever he feels the change coming. But Mira, while scared of the dragon, is also fascinated by it and comes to see that the dragon is part of Arman, not separate from him, and she loves the whole of him, in both his dragon and human forms. She tells him that the reason he feels so much anger as a dragon is because people have always feared dragons, and no one has ever loved them. It is her love that helps Arman accept and even love both sides of himself.

TL;DR Did I like it? Yes. Did I feel it was worth my money? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you like a romance along the lines of Beauty and the Beast, then you would probably enjoy it. If you like your movies with more action, violence, and/or sex then you would probably find I Am Dragon predictable and cliche.

FINAL NOTE: This is a Russian film. If you buy the American copy of it, you will have the option of watching it with English subtitles or English dubbed. I would recommend watching it in Russian with English subtitles. I watched the English dubbed version the first time and the disconnect between hearing the English voice actors and watching the actors’ lips move threw me out of the story a couple of times.

Summary:

Because a prince was already very much seen by his princess; A prince for another prince OR A prince for the villain ... What can a prince and a dragon do together?

First of all, I have to admit that my English is not the best, in fact, I am learning, so please, have patience, I am not very good with this, however, I thought that maybe people would like my story , so, with that intention and perhaps others, I would like to come here to show this particularly interesting story, I suppose. I am open to constructive criticism to improve my language, although I notice that I am using "Google translator". This idea is already rare, but well, someone already came up with it ... (I think) well, this is my version of the facts ... to see how it goes

It's more than anything romantic with comedy No. Ho, warning, things here are not overnight ... they go really slow .... warned are XD

This idea came to me because of those weird images that are later on the Internet or by face ... I saw some where is a prince x prince and the typical prince for the princess ... well, I saw an image of a gentleman (we all know he is a prince) kissing a dragon ... I know, the image is rare and I do not think it has much to do ... but well, as I said, someone had to happen ... Ha, it's also inspired by that song Sherk 2 from "I want a hero" so ... here's my inspiration ... (Even I had fun with the cap)

1 - Our beginning ...

* This story begins in a place that for many would be an end ... our story begins right in the colossal and final battle between our Prince Nine and that damn witch who came to curse his little sister, the princess of his kingdom *

-hahaha, surrender stupid young man! - roared the funny witch to see all the problems in which the prince was fighting a dragon as black as the abyss and crimson eyes that roared with rage and attacked without compassion

"Never!" Shouted the young man with sandy brown hair, slightly tanned skin and emerald eyes already very hurt but that immediately took out a stone (like those that are taken from the river) a sky blue color which lit up when he put it in front of the dragon, this being roared and the brightness of the stone increased until, surprisingly, he threw the dragon to the other end of that room making that as soon as it hit the wall it collapsed covering at last all his body, the scream witch of anger to see that his slave had been beaten so easily

- Come on Felicia! I have already defeated you! - shouted the prince brandishing his sword in front of the witch

-Do you think this is over?! - And with a new shout he created a cane and with this he attacked the prince with his multiple spells, the prince, doing everything he could with his sword deflected as many attacks as possible, but in one his sword went flying away from him, that cursed witch smiled victorious while caressing the tip of his scepter, which was a crimson gem like the eyes of the defeated dragon

-This is your end stupid young man- said the witch, while pointing right in front of the young man who looked everywhere trying to see how to save himself, in a fit of madness ran away and taking a shield in the opposite way the shield reflected the attack of the witch, is barely surprised and managed to dodge her own attack which fell right between the pile of rocks where the dragon was ...

Because the witch had turned to see if her attack had not been redirected, she did not see that the prince had taken his sword again; a heartbreaking shout from her part sounded through all that remained of that great hall, the witch turned her eyes to see how that prince had not only pierced his chest, but destroyed the gem that lay on his chest, a crimson gem which, with the sword stuck it was destroyed in thousands of pieces ... they looked at each other with hatred and the witch took it by the neck, although it did not help much because the prince buried the sword even more in his chest

-I said ... this is over ...- he whispered as he buried more of the sword making the woman release heartbreaking cries of pain and agony ... finally stopped moving and became sands that were soon swept by the wind .. the prince dropped his sword to the ground and then he fell, breathed with difficulty looked at the little pile of sand that had been left of his enemy, smiled softly and looked at the nonexistent ceiling which showed a dark night jewel with stars and a full moon that shone genuinely in the sky

-Finally ... now my sister will be safe ... I managed to destroy the spell- she said while closing her eyes letting the wind caress her hair color to the sand ...

Her beloved younger sister was someone she loved too much, she could not let the curse of death corrupt that pure heart ... according to the curse the witch had thrown at her, once she was 15 years old that young lady as beautiful as she was , he would become a terrible demon that the more damage he did, the more darkness would be born in his fragile heart, in case this was not enough, as his darkness grew more and more, his own essence would disappear and with it, that young lady who once came to to be ... and so, turned into a monster, I would die, either because of its own darkness or at the hands of someone who did not know it and really believed that it was a monster ...

Suddenly his thoughts were interrupted when he heard an explosion, turned his eyes to a pile of rocks and debris and amazed how he came out on all fours a young man about his age "although it looked a little younger" white skin like snow, black hair slightly brittle (wavy) that reached up to his shoulders and strangely using large wings which was also dragged, along with a tail of black lizard like his hair and wings, that young man who had his eyes down He came out while coughing, he could notice that he was a bit hurt, he got up and went a little closer to him but still keeping a safe distance; You did not have to be a genius to know that this young man maybe and was the black dragon that had recently defeated ...

On the other hand, the dragon that had managed to get out of the rubble sat on the floor while coughing a little, another little and could not get out ... he felt very weak, was dizzy and felt strange, tried to focus his eyes and I miss seeing the ground closer than normal, I try not to give importance, maybe and I was still very weak ...

-Are you okay? - He again heard the insistent question of the human now closer to the

-Don't come closer- roared, both opened their eyes amazed, the dragon looked at his hands and then passed them to his neck and then with those strange hands traverse his new body touching his strange softness and warmth ... while, the prince was surprised ... he had managed to understand the words of that dragon ...

-Do you speak? - Asked astonished, the dragon just looked at him

-Can you understand me? - Asked distrustfully, the prince nodded and the dragon continued to see his body, sigh annoyed and look everywhere -Where is the witch? - At last asked not see who had chained and returned his slave by obligation

-the mate- said the prince safe and victorious, the dragon in turn growled and tried to attack the human by opening its snout (now made a human mouth) but astonished did not see fire coming out of it, quite the contrary, cry of pain as he felt the fire burn part of his human knees and his hands ... the fire had appeared in his hands and not in his mouth as was the custom ... both saw the hands of the dragon and the prince realized the fact that that young man was naked and exposed, so, with a slight blush, he looked away, while the frightened dragon tried to understand what was happening, but as soon as he remembered that the witch had died at the hands of the other, he growled even more

-Humans are stupid! - he shouted as he got on all fours and looked at him annoyed as he walked towards him, the prince on his part was only doing backwards while watching him

-don't be an idiot, I had to kill her or else the curse that has fallen on my sister would never disappear- the prince said in his defense, the dragon was still chasing him and he was doing backwards watching the dragon growling

- You're a stupid human! Even if you kill the witch, you can never destroy her curse! if not, I would have returned to my true form, but look no further! having this fragile and disgusting appearance - he said with hate while looking at himself

-wait a moment what do you mean by that dragon? - asked the prince noticing a possibility that had not contemplated, the dragon finally returned his eyes to the front where the human was and growled

-While the witch has died the curse will continue ... she was the only one who knew how to reverse it and now that you have killed her, you have finished with all the possibilities ... idiot human- the dragon said with hatred

-that can not be possible ...- barely and whisper, after all was silent for long minutes the prince looked at the dragon turned human ... if what he said was true, there was still a possibility ...

-Do you know how to reverse it? - The dragon that at that moment was looking at his human body looked with one eyebrow raised at the other as a sign of distrust

-no, if I knew I would not be wasting my time here with you idiot human- roared with notorious annoyance

For the surprise the dragon moaned softly flapping its wings and being watched by the human, they looked into each other's eyes and immediately the dragon went away several steps looking at him with hatred and distrust showing his tail and his tense wings, the prince sighed and diverted his He looked towards the book that he had barely managed to pick up; once with the book in hands he went to sit in what seemed to be a chair something old began to leaf through the pages and slowly the dragon was approaching

-Well? - Asked when he was on the side of the other trying to see what the book said, the prince denied and the dragon looked at him

-haagg ... what am I going to do now? - He spoke with despair and weariness, then, instead of looking with the dragon he was trying to lick a wound that was near his elbow, he remembered that he had done that wound and he could not help feeling guilty, so, slowly he was getting closer and closer to him and when the dragon noticed him, he looked at him with distrust

-Now what do you want human? - Asked, the prince only took the injured arm of the other and taking a small ointment that had put a little in the wound, but as soon as I touch the skin of the other, the dragon roared and then bit very hard the hand that had the ointment

-haaaggg- the prince also shouted, after both were released and they saw with clear intentions of wanting to kill the dragon opened his mouth again trying to create his attack, but again he hurt himself again in the hands, the prince took that moment to take the dolls of the other and thanks to the dragon was lying on the floor, it was only a matter of turning it to be immobilized

It is likely that they find this story in the Spanish language quite advanced but I am still the same author, simply, my mother tongue is Spanish, anyway, I hope you like this story as I like it the same way it serves that I do not forget of her XD
