We're still accepting the Klaine bingo cards? Got anymore?
FInd them here. Details on our tumblr page:.
Debut: Is There a Twelve Step Just For You? by
“He was still the same short, nerdy Blaine Anderson he’d always been. An easy target for school bullies everywhere. Kurt was the popular co-captain of the Cheerio’s, looking down on his kingdom like a fair but firm ruler. No one was on his level, certainly not a peasant like Blaine.”
Or Blaine tries to tell Kurt that he has a crush on him but accidentally ends up asking for a makeover instead. Oh, dear.
2: Page Turner: Hummel’s Home for Non-Conforming Adolescents by Beautifulunseen
Blaine Anderson had learned from the time he was marked as Non-Conforming that his life would never go according to plan. Still, the last thing he expected was Hummel’s Home and its head boy Kurt, who had, against all odds, escaped the same fate. Dystopian AU.
3. Need Tissues: Everything is Nothing with a Twist by BeautifulUnseen
The cuff on Kurt's wrist covers up a tiny number he was born with — just like everyone else he knows — a number that tells at what age he will die. Because of his number, Kurt keeps his heart locked away. But then Blaine enters his life. Does he hold the key to that lock?
4. Unusual Occupation: Somewhere Close to Nowhere by orphanaccount
Clairvoyance, or being “psychic” has been a blessing and a curse rolled into one for Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson. With Blaine accompanying Kurt on a case that sounds like all things paranormal, (despite his objections) will they be able to put aside their differences and discover who is behind the haunting of Ashland Ranch?
5. Wildcard: Puppy Eyes by Lilyvandersteen
Blaine teaches graphic and digital design at Parsons, and is under a curse that turns him into a dog for a week, every once in a while. He lives with Trent, who's been looking after him in his dog phases for years. Now, though, Trent has met someone and is very happy and going on dates all the time, and the next time Blaine turns into a dog, Trent doesn't look after him but just shrugs and contacts a dog walker service.
And you can guess who is sent to look after Blaine...
6. Summer Story: Timeless by Cinnamont
Despondent from constant bullying at school, Kurt goes on a summer vacation to Scotland and is whisked through time to find a love that is timeless.
7. Written for a Challenge: Unexpected by klaineanummel
Blaine Anderson was just about the last thing Professor Kurt Hummel expected out of a TA.
8 Made you laugh out loud: Failed Achievement by klaineanummel
Sam knew Blaine wasn't capable of having a bromance.
9. Genre Don’t Normally Read: Crush Into Me by gleekto
Third year NYADA student, Kurt, returns to Lima for an internship coaching the Glee club. The leather jacket and eyebrow ring-clad senior, Blaine, thinks he’s cute
Thank you Anon for this one. ~Jen

Omg this is too silly I have to try!
(sorry for the long post I don't have an ao3 account)
Hi, my name is Harry. I live with my friends in a large mansion, built specially for our band.
Yes, we have a band.
Yes, it is very popular.
No, I can't tell you the name of the band, but I can give you 2 clues: the number 1 and the letter D... Care to guess?
I'm a bit of a bad boy if I may say so myself. I don't look like it, but I have a certain... reputation let's say. They say I'm the good side of bad.
My wild hair, still wet from the shower, falls freely almost to my shoulders. I tie it in a messy bun. It's a good thing it's against company policy to date: I swear the guys check me out sometimes.
I hear noise in the big open kitchen: today Simon, our manager, has offered to cook breakfast himself. He doesn't need to, we have a chef, but we just finished recording and he said it was a reward for staying on top of the charts for 3 weeks straight.
But the noise doesn't sound like cooking, it sounds like an argument. Is Louis being an ass again? Last time Simon caught him with a smoke, he got yelled at for so long it took the fun out of it.
"Well," I say to myself, biting my lower lip, "someone has to get the band out of trouble again." I pull up my skinny jeans, jump down the stairs carelessly and they hear me coming. Almost everyone is here.
Zayn is closed-off and visibly upset. Niall looks like he's about to cry. Louis has stormed off somewhere outside. And Liam is pleading with Simon.
"You can't do that, Mr Cowell!" says Liam, begging. Always so polite. Chin up, Liam, that's not how you make girls cry.
"Nothing I can do about it, Liam, it's all here, written in the contracts." Simon looks troubled, and that's never a good sign.
"Hey Simp," (as I affectionately call him) "what's the big deal? Did Niall smuggle another puppy?"
Zayn stares me down, visibly pissed. "You should ask what you did instead, you madman."
Oops. "What did I do?" I ask, an innocent grin on my face. Zayn doesn't fall for my angelic act, he's not even blushing today. It must be a pretty big deal.
Truth is, it could be a number of things. I'm definitely not an angel, but so far I have been pretty good at deflecting and avoiding attention. Oh well. A little bit of chaos can't hurt. What's the worst thing Simon could do to me? Send me on a forced vacation? Quaking in my boots, I tell you. Unless...
"What do you know about a young lady named Harmony? Harmony Davenport? Or a girl called Acacia? Lauren? Mia? Since WHEN has this been going on?" explodes Simon, red-faced. He looks as furious as the time I dried all his ties in the oven because he skimped on my hair products. Cheap man. Cheap ties.
I'm fucked, though. There is no way to make this look good, even if the ad on Craigslist was totally legit. "Too hard to raise your daughter? 1D buys for quick cash! Don't pay for their studies, let us pay for their booties!" We made the ad as a joke one drunk evening with Louis, we didn't expect it to work. Until we had a couple girls showing up at the mansion a few days later.
To be clear, we just gave them jobs. People pay me for my time, not the other way around. I do enjoy watching them squirm when I ask them to clean again, step-mother style, but it's all pretty innocent. As innocent as I can be, anyway. But I'm pretty sure Simon isn't gonna see it that way.
I put a hand on his shoulder and squeeze. "Hey man, Simp, calm down, you're gonna burst something! We've been real gentlemen to the girls the whole time, right lads?"
A delightful look of horror settles on Niall and Liam's faces. "You-you mean they're not really maids?" says Niall, panicking.
"Ok, calm down." What a baby. "We're just gonna tell them to go home, alright? No one got hurt, it was just a special event for the fans! Simp, aren't you always telling us to thank them personally as much as we can?" I wink and stick my tongue out. Impish always works when you're that hot, or so the PR team tells me.
That's when Simon slaps me with the folded newspaper. Ow. Too far. Wanna meet my lawyer, Simpy?
"It's on the news, shitnugget!" he screams. "It's everywhere! This band is done! You're lucky they can't send you all to jail, a sentence you would entirely deserve!"
I rub my cheek. "Message received, dude. You did not need to do that." I frown. "At least we're not going to jail."
"Jail time is the least of our worries, Harry," says Liam, his face moist with anxious sweat. "Don't you remember the Proportional Offense section of our recording contract?"
Zayn crosses his arms, obviously judging. Man has a stick up his ass. I turn to Simon.
"In case of a major scandal involving fans, the band suffers the same fate as what they made their fanbase go through. Usually that type of contract is enough to keep in check the rowdiest of performers, but I guess the usual doesn't apply to these stupid boys." he gives me a hard look. No empathy there. He's gonna throw us under the bus if he can.
I smile. "Well, sorry if we're too cool to be contained, Simpman. So what are you gonna do? Put an ad on Craigslist?" I snort.
"It's already done," replies Zayn, somber. "No one wanted us after the little trick you and Louis pulled, not even for free. We've been sold to a certain Father Strange for a bag of cat food and a couple yards of bendable plastic spine."
I feel a chill of dread. Surely this is impossible? We're superstars! They can't just... do that?
I look around. Liam and Niall are holding hands, barely stopping themselves from crying. Louis at the garden door, on call, screaming at someone. Zayn is just staring at the wall, his arms crossed. Powerless.
"Well then!" says Simon, clapping his hands. "Pack your bags, boys, you're going to Toronto!"

the only ghost in Amity Park
Continuation of Half Of
______________________________________________
Only in Amity Park did the revelation that a local teenager was sorta, kinda a ghost just blow over in a few days. Sure, people still stared at Danny Fenton as he walked by and everyone was still wondering what exactly he was, but overall life had moved on. Star sighed to herself as she organized her notebooks, waiting for class to begin. Just another day.
Star herself really didn’t want to get involved in whatever was going on with Danny. She didn’t like him before he was a celebrity and didn’t plan on starting anytime soon. While Paulina still relentlessly, and vainly, pumped him for information on her dead boy crush, Phantom and he and Dash formed some weird macho bond or whatever, Star avoided him. He’d given her the chills since the day he’d walked into Casper High. When Danny’s secret had been exposed mid-attack, Star hadn’t been surprised. She didn’t need some ghost to tell her that there was something deeply, unsettlingly wrong with Danny Fenton.
Danny didn’t seem particular bothered, by his inhuman nature or by suddenly having his secret exposed. If anything, the nerd looked more relaxed than ever. Star had been watching him, they all had, but Fenton kept his ghostly antics to a minimum when in public. The occasional flash of green eyes when emotional, a grin of sharpened teeth. He made Mikey’s locker lock intangible the other day when the kid had forgotten his combination and he floated down the stairs instead of walking sometimes. It had been a week and it was  frightening how quickly such strangeness had become almost normal.
“Alright kids, phones and notes away we’re starting class with a pop quiz. Hope you’ve all kept up with your weekly readings,” Faluca announced cheerily. The whole class, including Fenton, moaned and packed up their bags. Star supposed being an undead being haunting his own life didn’t make him immune from normal human problems. She was biting her lip trying to remember which antibody caused allergic reactions when she got an uneasy feeling. She looked up and was not surprised to see Danny Fenton looking around too. It had been a solid week without ghost attacks, looks like Fenton’s supposed vacation time was up.
Star stopped her writing and adjusted the bag at her feet to prep for evacuation. She briefly wondered what Fenton would do, what he could do? Did he also hunt ghosts, like his parents? Like Phantom? There were no blasts, no screams, no monologues but the dread increased when a ghost shield descended over them. Actually, it looked like it was just covering their classroom. Now everyone was looking up from their quizzes and out the window at the flickering, green shield.
“You’d think the administration would’ve warned me we were going to do a drill,” Faluca said but his voice was hesitant. Clearly this wasn’t planned so despite the lack of alarms, there was a good chance this was real. “Pencils down for the moment while I figure out what’s going on.”
“Mr. Faluca, I need to go,” Danny said, raising his hand. Star was so used to hearing the request she almost ignored him but the dread curling in her stomach made her look again. His face was pinched, sharp and his eyes burned with an icy fury like a sudden storm blowing in without warning.
“Mr. Fenton, I don’t think...” Faluca murmured uneasily. Danny frowned harder.
“It wasn’t a request, actually,” Danny said roughly as he stood up and began walking towards the door. He was almost there when the door slammed open and Fenton had no less than 3 ectoweapons pointed in his face. A few kids jumped back in alarm but Danny held his ground as half a dozen Guys in White agents entered the room and surrounded him.
“Spectral scum formerly known as Daniel Fenton, you’re coming with us,” one of the agents said.
“Danny not Daniel and it’s still my name,” Danny quipped, eyeing each of the government officials and their weapons. “And no, I’m not. I’m still alive, somewhat anyway, so I have rights. The courts backed me up.”
“Everyone who signed for your freedom doesn’t know ghosts like we do,” Another agent said so forcefully, some spittle flew out of their mouth and hit Danny’s cheek. Star watched it freeze and fall away the instant it hit his skin. “Your kind are too dangerous to wander around, you need to be contained and eliminated. Don’t worry, your parents will receive a sizable check as recompense.”
“I’m the one who needs to be contained?” Danny said slowly, evenly but there was a static to his voice that caused the hairs on the back of Star’s neck to rise. When she breathed out, she saw her breath was misting. Everyone’s was as the room temperature continued to plummet. “When you come in here and take hostages to threaten me?” Danny hissed, he took a step forward and his eyes took on a neon green glow. “You didn’t come to my home or on the streets, you came to take me in the middle of biology when I’m surrounded by civilians, kids.”
“You delude yourself into thinking you’re still human,” another agent scoffed. “Everyone knows ghosts are weaker when giving into their obsession.” Danny laughed, it was loud and mocking and like fingernails running down a chalkboard. Faluca, stuck in between Danny and the agents, was white as a sheet and gripping his desk like it was the only thing keeping him from collapsing.
“You know nothing,” Danny hissed, his voice barely recognizable as human. His hair and shirt floated in an invisible but angry breeze. Frost crawled up his arms and his face. Various ecto alarms were ringing on the belts of the agents and they started to look a bit nervous. He looked nothing like the kid who, minutes before, had clearly been struggling with their bio quiz. “You have no idea what you’re dealing with. You cannot come into my haunt and threaten my people to get to me. Protecting what is mine will always make me stronger!”
“This whole town is constantly under attack because of things like you!” One particularly brave agent said even as a few others had backed up. “Amity Park is on the verge of collapse because of all the ghosts!”
“There is only one ghost in Amity Park,” Danny said, he tilted his head, his black and white hair dangling in his face as he gave a sharpened smile. “There is only me and the ghosts I allow, ghosts who know the rules, who respect my authority here by keeping damage to people and property down. I am the only ghost haunting this town and why do you think that is?” One agent threw down his gun and ran through the open door.
“You’re-you’re a monster!” Another woman shouted, shaking as she stepped back before fleeing.
“I’m not the one who needs to threaten innocents to get to their target,” Danny sneered. “It’s a good thing you did though, I wouldn’t hold back if I wasn’t worried about collateral.” Another three agents turned tail and ran. Until there was only one left. His gun was still trained on Danny but his hands were shaking.
“You don’t scare us,” the agent trembled through the obvious lie having been abandoned by his comrades. “We’ll get you monster, if it’s the last thing we do.”
“Looking forward to it,” Danny drawled sarcastically as some of his horrifying aura dissipated along with the freezing grip on the room. Within moments Danny has settled back into more human form. While he’d been angry before, now he looked almost bored. At no point had he seemed afraid.
“You take your people and your equipment and you leave Amity’s borders by sunset tonight,” Danny declared resolutely. “If you have continued problems with my existence, you take it up with the courts. We settle this as humans but if you treat me as a ghost then I will fight back like one.” His eyes turned green again as a threat. As a promise.
“I don’t take orders from spooks!” The agent shouted, securing his finger on the trigger and preparing to fire. Star had ducked to avoid the blast so she missed exactly what happened. All she saw was the green glow and heard a strangled scream from the agent followed by a series of thumps. By the time Star had gotten back into her seat, Danny was aggressively pulling apart the ectogun with his bare hands. There was no sign of the agent and, around them, the ghost shield fizzled away.
“Jerks,” Danny grumbled, kicking at the remains of the ectogun he’d destroyed. “Sorry about that, Mr. Faluca. I knew they’d cause problems but I didn’t think they’d come to school.” Their teacher stared at Danny like a rabbit facing down a lion. “You okay?”
“Fine, Mr. Fenton, just fine!” Falcua grinned in a high pitched voice. “Shall we get back to our quizzes?” The bell rang just then and Danny did a little fist pump.
“Tomorrow then? After I get a chance to study more?” Danny asked with puppy dog eyes. It looked wrong on his face that had just threatened the government with bodily harm. Faluca just nodded dumbly, not sure what else to say. “Yes! I’ll pass tomorrow for sure. The attention kinda sucks but it does come with some perks.”
He walked back to his desk, ignoring the wide-eyed looks of the class when he stopped and gasped, his breath fogging in front of him. His lips pursed again with annoyance. A few people jumped in surprise as the Box Ghost, a familiar annoyance, poked his head through the wall.
“Child! Your requested reprieve is up and the Box Ghost is here to cause insurmountable square shenanigans!” He laughed heartily, stopping when the room temperature dropped again. Danny didn’t even turn to face the ghost.
“Your watch is off, Boxy. I have another 10 hours before I have to deal with you annoyances again,” Danny growled. “I’m feeling good right now, take advantage of it and leave in one piece.”
“Uh right okay then,” the ghost stammered, sinking back into the wall. “See you tomorrow.” Danny cracked his neck before he walked to his desk, grabbed his things and walked to the front of the room.
“Late bell’s gonna ring any minute, you guys should hurry if you don’t wanna be late,” Danny said as he left. Falcua’s strength gave out as soon as Fenton was gone and he hit the floor, one hand clutching at his chest.
“Jeepers,” Mikey surmised appropriately before stuffing his things in his bag and leaving as well. Star watched everyone loosen up themselves and begin gathering their things to leave. No, she would never like Danny Fenton but he and his ghost weirdness was just part of the deal now, whether they wanted it or not. Such was life in the most haunted city in America which was only haunted by a single ghostly entity.

MASTERPOST
Tumblr media
You had spent the entire day at the beach for four days in a row. It wasn’t often that you got to go on a vacation, so when you did, you really liked to forget the monotony of your everyday life. There really wasn’t any extra room in your head to think about your summer job or college applications with the ocean waves lapping at your feet.
Your parents had been promising you this trip the entire year so as long as your grades stayed up before graduation, and it had been a struggle, but you had succeeded - the real hardest part was waiting from the end of school until the actual trip came, which didn’t roll around until December.
Josh had been your friend since middle school, and an unlikely friend at that - or at least at first. See you’ve always had a really feminine lunar energy, a darker, deeper aura, but him?
Josh was the sun personified.
He had the most sunflower-petal-yellow personality you could imagine; his whole persona was a rainbow tie-dyed bed sheet drying on a clothesline.
But opposites attract, or they must anyway, because one fateful day in sixth grade, he had knocked directly into you. The force of it had thrown your tray down to the lunchroom floor, smearing mashed potatoes all over your new school shoes. You had opened your mouth to snap at him, but. Well, how could you? There was never any option but to forgive him when he flashed that big, blinding smile. Especially when he was looking at you like an apologetic puppy.
He had latched onto you after that.
Josh had attended every single birthday party since then and escorted you - as a friend, you assured your parents - to a couple of spring formals. He had been by your side when you tried summer camp and hated it, and you couldn’t remember the last time you’d been to a movie theater without him.
Your parents had been understandably suspicious at first, but after years of seeing his face at least three-quarters of every month, they had been given no reason to suspect there was anything romantic between you two.
So, that’s how he had ended up here in paradise with you. It was just a given that if you were going on vacation, so was Josh. Your parents hadn’t even asked; they’d just naturally bought an extra ticket for him.
He looked undeniably more well placed here in the tropical climate than you did, and you tried not to be envious about it.
You had spent a bit of time exploring the foreign shops and busy streets, but more than anything, you laid with him in the sand, staring out over the water and trying to get as much of the sun as you could, considering you wouldn’t be seeing it for at least another four months after you got back to the Midwest.
Luckily for you, your parents had not hovered at all. They had given you nothing but free time while they spent almost the entirety of the vacation at the hotel pool up to that point. Their distracted state had allowed you plenty of opportunities to find light beers and sneakily drink them with him. You had never really liked the taste of beer, but it was more for the novelty than anything else.
“Hey,” Josh said, gently pressing his fingertips into your side to get your attention.
You turned your head toward him and tipped your sunglasses down. They were the ones with the orange lenses that you had been absolutely intent on buying before the trip because they matched your suit. You decidedly did not regret your decision.
You hummed lazily in response. He was laying next to you on a teal blue beach towel under possibly the world’s largest umbrella, one tanned ankle crossed over the other. He returned his hand to where he had it folded behind his head, supporting most of its weight as he dozed in and out of consciousness.
His skin was kissed golden by the sun - almost from the minute you’d gotten off the plane- making him look a bit shiny the second he started sweating.
“What time is it?” he asked, voice a shade too concerned for your liking; although, in your lazy state, almost any level of concern was too much.
You glanced down at your phone which was positioned in between you, playing a very long playlist you had collaborated on for the whole car ride to the airport.
“Almost five.”
“Woah, really?” He looked around the beach, which was completely empty, saved for a couple of other stragglers that were staying well away from you.
You had five days worth of practice under your belt, and that had allowed you to find the perfect little slice of beach - secluded, but well kept. You hadn’t had to talk to another soul for the whole trip that you didn’t actively seek out, which was really what you had always wanted from a vacation.
“We should probably get back. Your parents said we were having dinner around six, right?” He nudged into your side, letting you know that he intended to move you whether you liked it or not, even if you had given him a lazy sounding groan for it.
There was no point fighting him (the boy was persistent if nothing else), so you slowly stretched out and prepared to be mobile again after barely using a muscle for days. He was right anyway - your parents weren’t strict in any sense of the word, but they were notoriously a bit picky about punctuality.
He helped you pack everything into your oversized beach bag and then tugged you up into a standing position. He looked just as stiff as you were as he walked by your side, neither of you concerned with keeping a straight line.
You both instinctively headed toward the shower area, all of your beach-going gear in tow, and when you got there, you each wordlessly headed to your respective shower stalls.
All the other showers you’d used the whole trip had been different, but here there were only two cubicles with just a couple feet in between them. You let your heavy bag drop to the pavement in the middle of the two stalls with a thud, and he did the same, propping the long umbrella up against the brick of the building.
You had wrapped your hair up earlier this morning to prevent it from getting salty in the ocean, but you could feel sand gritting against your scalp as you pulled the scrunchie out, so you picked the bottle of shampoo you’d packed away as you turned the shower on.
It wasn’t particularly warm, but the spray was nice and refreshing on your sun-touched skin.
You had just tipped your head back under the water when the curtain on your stall opened, causing you to jump and cover yourself, despite still being completely covered in your suit.
“Hey, I can’t get the water to work in mine - can I jump in with you?” Josh asked and when you gave him a scolding frown, he offered you a toothy smile back.
“Have you tried turning the knob?” you asked flatly, but you couldn’t help but laugh as he rolled his eyes.
“Wow, I didn’t fucking think of that,” he retorted. “Scoot over.”
There wasn’t a whole lot of room in these little shower stalls - they were definitely only meant for one person at a time, so you couldn’t clear much space for him, but you did your best. Once he was in, he had to stand within inches of you to prevent from spilling back out. You squinted accusingly at him, entirely unconvinced that either of you could get very clean this way.
“This could have been such a nice, relaxing shower,” you complained, popping the cap on the shampoo and squirting some out in your palm.
“It still can be!” he assured with a cheeky grin. “Just pretend I’m not here.”
Just for good measure, he mimicked zipping his mouth shut and tossing the key to the floor. You huffed a laugh at him, working the soap through your hair with your fingertips.
When you tipped your head back and let the water wash your locks clean, you let your eyes slip shut. You could tell that your cheeks were a little sunburnt because the water felt nearly ice-cold as it trickled across them, making you shiver.
Your eyes popped open again to find him watching your face. You huffed a breathy laugh at him.
“Hard to pretend you’re not here when you’re staring at me like that.”
“I’m not staring!” he scoffed, but his face turned charmingly pink despite his defense. “Where else am I supposed to look?”
You didn’t respond but instead decided to shake your head with a smirk. You handed him the shampoo bottle, but when you started to step aside to let him closer to the spout, he crowded closer to you. As he leaned in to wet his curls, your back hit the cold tile wall, making you gasp.
“Jesus, do you want me to just get out?” you complained half-heartedly, pressing a hand against his chest.
It wasn’t until he let out a wet sounding laugh that you realized he was jesting you.
“I’m sorry, am I in your way?” he asked coyly, ignoring your faux-annoyed groans as he leaned over you to steal the majority of the spray.
He was so close then that your nose hit his neck, his chest pressed flush against yours. The atmosphere in the tiny cubicle shifted dramatically for you at that moment, your breath catching in your chest.
“Josh,” you breathed.
You shivered again at the contact and, through your suit, you could feel your nipples perk up as your skin tightened into goosebumps. You could tell the exact second that he realized what he’d done to you because his whole body tensed and he took a step back.
“Fuck, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to be weird or anything,” he said, just loud enough to be audible over the white noise of the shower. His cheeks were flushed from embarrassment - even more so than before, keeping his eyes plastered firmly to the ceiling. Or, at least he was trying. Every couple of seconds, his gaze flicked down, almost comically across your body.
You couldn’t repress the breathless laugh as you watched him work to not look. Your heart was racing, making you feel jittery. “It’s okay, don’t worry about it.”
Biting your lip anxiously, you could feel the heat rising to your cheeks too. His eyes flicked down to yours and he gave you a look like he was trying to tell if you were being genuine - if it was really okay.
You reached up to pat his cheek, meant to be a reassurance, but you couldn’t prevent your fingers from lingering against his warmed skin. Touching him like this was nothing new - you were what one could call “platonically intimate”. You shared beds and clothes, and every now and then he’d ask you to brush out his hair, just because he liked the feeling. But this time - like everything else about this moment - felt different. He leaned into your touch a fraction, nuzzling into your palm like a house cat.
Despite your closeness - metaphorically and physically - in all the years you’d known him, you had never once tried to kiss. You had thought about it once or twice, but only because you had gone through a boy crazy faze at the start of puberty and it made you question whether every platonic male in your life could be your soulmate.
But for a second you stared at his plush lips and thought about what it would be like. If it was anything like you expected, then it would be toothache-sweet, because that’s what he was like. Like cotton candy.
You pursed your lips tightly, suddenly overcome with a feeling that you weren’t used to. It felt dreamy like the color rose quartz. Like butterflies were beating their dusty wings against your stomach lining.
He was giving you a questioning look - brows tipped up at the center of his face in a look of concern. You could only imagine what your face must look like to him. You certainly hadn’t been regulating it.
As he parted his lips to inquire, you brushed your fingertips across them, feeling his breathing go uneven.
“Josh,” you whisper, gingerly placing your other hand on the back of his neck. He was so close that you didn’t have to move much to do so. “Will you kiss me?”
He didn’t react for a second, just stood there blinking like the words hadn’t caught up yet. Then his mouth opened and closed a couple of times as he tried to think of a response.
“Of course,” he finally breathed, and the inflection in his voice - like you’re stupid to even ask - made you blush.
His face was already just a foot away from yours, so when he exhaled, the hot air hit your cheek.
The first brush of his lips against yours was experimental - just the ghost of a touch. You could tell that he wanted to, but couldn’t seem to bring himself to commit to it.
You scratched your nails gently against the back of his neck, urging him on.
He snaked his hand around your waist and pulled you in a fraction closer, hesitantly pressing your lips together, tighter this time. As you kissed him back, you could sense his apprehensions starting to melt away. He was gaining confidence by the second, letting his fingers play against the small of your back.
Giddy with excitement, you let him press you back against the tile again until he was standing slightly over you, your fingers wrapped in his wet curls. The water hitting the back of his head was dripping onto your face, and it reminded you of those movies where the romantic interest kisses the girl passionately in the rain before the credits rolled. You had never been very into lovey-dovey movies, but he had always been a sucker for big romantic gestures, so you ended up watching rom-coms quite often.
You parted your lips for him, and this time he kissed you in complete earnest. The rush of feeling behind it knocked the breath from your lungs.
His hand was carefully sliding up your back until your skin met the tile of the shower, and he was forced to snake it up your rib cage instead. You knew what he was going to do, even though you were sure he didn’t - that his fingers were dancing along your skin at their own accord. So when his thumb brushed over your nipple through the fabric of your suit it didn’t shock you, but the feeling forced a hum from you that he swallowed down instantly.
He rubbed over it lightly, and every touch made your whole body tingle.
“Fuck,” he breathed against your lips, sounding painfully shocked at the way this day was going.
You couldn’t say you blamed him.
The angle was starting to make your neck ache, but you could only move slightly due to the cramped space. As you shifted, you felt his hardened cock slide against your thigh and you sucked in a sharp gasp.
His whole body tensed like he wasn’t sure if he’d crossed a line, but he continued when you tugged on his hair - maybe a little too rough if you were being honest. He didn’t seem to mind at all; as a matter of fact, if you didn’t know any better, you’d say he liked it - if the suspiciously hoarse whimper he placed into your mouth was anything to go by.
The fingers of his other hand trailed down your other side, thumb rubbing against your hip bone and tugging you closer until your pelvis was pressed against his. The sensation was too delicious; you couldn’t help but grind against him, eliciting a moan from each of you.
When his lips moved to your neck, his teeth grazed the skin. You could feel him starting to bite in, and as good as it felt, you had to object.
“No, wait,” you breathed. “You can’t leave any marks.”
“Who said I was going to leave a mark?” he asked, sounding a little smug. You huffed a laugh at him, rolling your eyes.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were an expert at this.” The sarcasm dripping from your voice made him laugh into your damp skin. You opened your mouth to say something equally quippy, but the words got choked back as his fingers brushed against your core.
Your exhale hitched in your lungs, and when you were able to finally breathe again, it was in the sound of his name.
He added just a fraction more pressure, forcing you to bite your lip. He was about to go for it, you could tell, because he was slowly pushing your suit aside, and you were heavily anticipating his fingers touching your bare skin when-
Your phone rang, almost ear-splittingly loud as the tone echoed off of the tile. It caused you to yelp, and he pulled away instantly, face beet red.
Shakily, you bent down and reached past the curtain, pulling it out of your bag and answering it without looking at the ID.
He flipped the water off just as you said, “Hello?”
You silently prayed that your voice wasn’t as shaky as you thought it sounded.
“Hey, just reminding you that we’re having dinner around six,” your father said from the other end. It was quiet enough in the stall that he could easily be heard by Josh as well from where he was leaning back against the shower wall, breathing heavily and staring at the floor.
You swallowed the lump in your throat first before speaking again. “Yeah, we’re just getting changed. Probably be there in ten to fifteen minutes is all.”
Your dad quickly agreed, sounding none-the-wiser to your sins, and after you hung up, you tucked your phone deep inside the bag, like that would help keep everything a secret.
Josh’s eyes flicked up and met yours, his eyebrows raised. You were biting your lip, rubbing nervously at the back of your neck.
“Well, fuck,” he chanced, making you release a shaky laugh.
“Fuck indeed,” you replied, giving him a small smile. “We should get moving.”
He nodded in agreement, and after a second of staring at you, he stepped out, leaving you to change.
Neither of you said a word on the walk back to the hotel, but it wasn’t necessarily uncomfortable - just new. Uncharted territory.
Dinner was the same. The air felt heavy, but you did your best to not let your parents feel it, and you could tell he was doing the same.
He easily answered their questions about the day’s goings-on, easily navigating around the part where he almost slipped a finger into you in the shower.
Try as you might, there was no way you could prevent yourself from thinking about it. You caught yourself staring at his lips while he ate, and thinking about the way he tasted.
The light was catching on his tan cheekbones, making his jawline look razor-sharp, and all you could do was think about biting it. It was a big difference between just yesterday when he’d sneezed on you and then laughed about it.
You think that was what was most alarming - You’d never thought of him sexually in your life, aside from the time a friend of yours decided to date him and then attempted to tell you what he was like in bed. As you stared at him from across the table, your biggest regret was cutting her off before she could say anything actually worth knowing.
He stared at you over the rim of his water glass as your mom talked about the hotel bar margaritas, and for the first time in your life, you wanted to know what he felt like on top of you.
The closer dinner got to being finished, the more heavily your heart started to thud. By the time you were all standing and removing your napkins from your lap, you were sure everyone could hear it’s eclectic rhythm bouncing around in your ribcage.
You had never been more thankful in your life that your parents had insisted your rooms be in separate wings on the hotel - though you didn’t really want to think of the implications of that in and of itself.
Josh let himself into your room, asking your parents to excuse him. When your mother inquired about what you guys were going to get up to for the rest of the night, you shrugged and told her you were thinking about renting a movie and falling asleep to it - insuring her that you were beyond tired from all the fresh air and sun. She happily told you to charge it to the room and told you to text her if you guys needed anything, but after being here for five days, you thought you had it covered.
They hugged you goodnight and then retreated down the hall, and you waited until you were positive they were gone before you opened the door. He had left it cracked for you - no need for you to fumble with a keycard, for which you were grateful.
He was at the other end of the room, facing away from you. He had changed into his favorite pair of grey sweatpants and nothing else, and you took a second to rake your eyes up the muscles of his back.
When you shut the door, you leaned back against it, your heart fluttering. You were so nervous that your fingers felt numb, but it was the best kind of nerves you’d ever experienced in your life. You hadn’t ever felt like this about a guy before.
This certainly would not be your first time - by any means. But. Somehow it was.
When he turned around, he looked at you like he was viewing an art installation. It took a second before he could snap out of it, tugging a soft t-shirt over his head and smoothing it out.
You couldn’t stop yourself from following his hand down his chest with your eyes, a warmth rising on your cheeks away when you looked back up and he was wearing a tiny smirk.
“Do you want to go back down to the beach?” he asked, voice quiet, but audible in the - otherwise silent - room.
You weren’t expecting that, and you could tell by the way he smiles at you that he knew he’d take you by surprise.
“Sure,” you agree, nodding. You were honestly a little afraid for a second that he was going to just pretend like nothing had happened. Your chest was tight with hurt for a brief second until he reached for the blanket off the bed, tugging it off the bed and rolling it into a ball under his arm.
No one else on earth could tell that he was nervous, you thought, but he was infinitely more transparent to you.
Just the fact that he wasn’t talking a mile a minute in the elevator was a tell-tale sign. He kept dragging his teeth over his bottom lip; something that would be just a normal, mindless tick for anyone else.
He let you step out first and then held the door from the lobby open for you, which was nothing new, but the way he placed a hand on your lower back as you brushed past him was. The touch made your skin feel hot, even though it was over the fabric of the dress you’d put on for dinner.
You realized about halfway through the walk that he was leading you back to the same slice of beach you’d been lazing on earlier that day, and for some reason that gave you goosebumps.
It felt complete. Full circle.
Nearing nine pm then, the moon was high, and the only source of light as it threw white light across the waves. The wet sand on the shoreline shimmered with it like liquid metal as the water lapped over it.
There wasn’t a soul around. You two were well away from any kind of civilization, and that notion itself was comforting to you. Still, your fingers were vibrating as he laid the blanket out and sat, toeing his sandals off and dusting his feet of any sand before relaxing back.
You followed suit, smoothing out the skirt of your sundress over your knees as you knelt next to him.
You cleared your throat, looking up at him through your lashes.
“We don’t have to do anything,” he said, without a single hint of reproach. His voice was soft and caring, the way it usually was when he was assuring you of anything, except even deeper in its sincerity this time.
He continued. “If you’re having second thoughts or anything, then just tell me and we’ll move past this, no questions asked.”
You breathed a disbelieving laugh, suddenly feeling too big for your body. You weren’t sure why it took you off guard - he’d only ever been a perfect gentleman to you, and any girl he’d ever known, really.
“I want this,” you stated with a small nod. A smile that read something along the lines of relief spread over his lips, and he let out a held breath.
In the tenderest way you could imagine, he swept a lock of your hair out of your face and tucked it behind your ear. A light touch, he wrapped his hand around the nape of your neck then, pulling you in just a fraction at a time until you were face to face for the second time that day.
When your lips touched the first time, it was soft and sweet - clearly trying to ease each other back into it. But you were already there.
You pressed into him, slipping your tongue in his mouth, and he met it with his.
As he leaned into him, his fingers danced along your bare shoulder, slipping under the thin strap of your dress and letting it slide down your arm.
It was nearly a hundred degrees hotter there than back in the still-frozen midwest, but you found yourself shivering as you pulled away from him and shrugged out of the other strap, letting the top of your dress fall from your bare chest.
His lips fell open, and you waited a second for him to do or say something - anything, but when he didn’t, you huffed a laugh.
“Are you going to pass out on me?” you teased, cupping one of your breasts in your own hand and giving it a squeeze just to watch him swallow hard.
“Shit,” he breathed, licking his lips. He grinned at you, showing teeth and all as he ducked in and kissed down the side of your neck.
You let his hand replace yours, his rough fingers brushing over the plush skin.
He didn’t linger his kisses in any one place for too long, no doubt being mindful of your warning about love bites before. That is until he pulled away and placed both hands firmly around your waist, helping you off your knees until you were straddling his lap. When he got you into the position he liked, his mouth found its way to your breastbone, pressing a trail of kisses down.
Your face felt fire-hot, so you buried it into the curls on the crown of his head. His hair smelled like the coconut shampoo you told him to start using years ago. The scent had become a bit of a comfort blanket for you - always put you at ease because it meant he was close.
You had never stopped to think of the implications of that until right now.
A gasp escaped you as he sucked one of your nipples into his mouth, tugging it between his lips. His teeth scraped around it lightly, making you whine, high-pitched and beyond lewd.
“Oh my god,” you whispered, pulling his face closer until you were afraid you were going to suffocate him, but knowing that if you did, he’d probably die happy.
He pulled away a fraction, just to flick his tongue against the other one, making your stomach tighten. You could feel yourself getting wetter, and couldn’t help but squirm against him, begging for some kind of reprieve.
You rocked your hips far enough forward that you caught his hard cock against your core, eliciting a choked moan from him. The tingly pleasure spread down your legs, to your toes and made them curl out of reflex.
His fingers dug into your sides as he pushed your hips back and then pulled them forward again, pressing you down harder into him this time. If you had any sense of reality, you’d know to be embarrassed about how wet you were after five seconds of grinding, but you were absolutely gone by then.
Slower this time, so you could really enjoy the fire, you rocked forward again. His fingers found their way to your thighs, sliding up the hem of your dress until his hands were cupping your ass.
Deciding that there were at least one too many layers between you, you pulled yourself up, untying the string on his pants and letting him wriggle to get them pulled down as far as he could in this position.
It was okay though, you had what you needed.
His head tipped back as his cock slipped against you again, this time only your collective underwear in the way. With his throat exposed like that, you bent to drag your teeth against it, not being as gentle as he had been with you.
“No marks,” he reminded, voice gruff, but his fingers painted a different picture - one even let go of your ass to tangle in your hair, spurring you on as your tongue lapped against his skin.
The collar of his shirt in the way of your path only served to annoy you, so you tugged it over his head with haste and let it fall to the blanket.
As soon as his chest was bare, your fingers were mapping it out, tracing along his collarbones and down his breastbone. Even in the dim glow, you could tell how sun-kissed his shining skin was.
The moon was illuminating his curls like a silvery halo, a sight so pretty that it knocked the breath from your lungs momentarily.
You were both breathing hard, not from exertion, but from sheer excitement, and you watched his chest rise and fall for a second before your fingers raked over his stomach and then across the outline of his cock through his briefs.
His hips tried to buck up into the touch in their constricted state, but even the minuscule movement made you blush. Knowing that you could have this kind of effect on him was absolutely surreal. Before today, you’d never even had the privilege of being able to dream about this moment, because it had never even been an option to you. But as you circled your fingertip over the head of it through the fabric, the possibilities seemed endless. When you looked up at his face, he was watching the movements of your hand with half-lidded eyes, seeming like he felt very similarly.
You leaned in and pressed your lips to his again, his mouth hot and sticky against yours. As you dipped your fingers under the hem of his briefs, you could feel him hold his breath. Your fingers wrapped around his cock, giving it a couple of painfully slow strokes and licking into his mouth as he opened it for you.
Neither of you really needed any more warming up, so you caught his eyes and lifted yourself up enough that he could pull your panties to the side.
When you slid down onto it, you had to bite your lip to keep yourself from crying out. You hadn’t realized how wet you were actually getting until you felt how easily it slipped into you. You didn’t allow him a whole lot of time to collect his thoughts before you were moving again, starting to pick up a rhythm as you worked yourself onto his cock.
Your fingernails were dug into his skin, using his shoulders as leverage, and surely they would leave marks, but you couldn’t force yourself to care. He’d think of an excuse if and when anyone ever asked.
“Fuck,” you breathed, voice an octave higher than it usually was. “Oh my god.”
He nuzzled his nose into your cheek, letting his hot, humid breath hit your skin.
Your thighs started to burn from relying on muscles you never use, but the second he started to feel you falter, his hands cupped under them, happy to share the work.
It wasn’t until he starting thrusting his hips up to meet yours that you really knew what fucking him could be like. The simple movement set your nerves on fire.
“Josh,” you squeaked, wrapping your arms around his neck as your fingers shook.
“I know,” he hummed. “I know, baby.”
The pet name made your stomach flip. You’d never wanted someone’s affection as much as you did in this moment.
He pulled his hands from your thighs and held you firmly around the waist. With your arms around his neck, you were already perfectly set up for his next move. He tipped you back until your shoulders were pressed against the blanket, laying you out with him between your hips.
Your muscles were grateful for the reprieve, but the new angle had him driving into you differently, making your eyes roll back.
It had felt great before, but suddenly you could sense yourself working toward something more - a higher peak. Your body felt hot as you wrapped your legs around his hips, tugging him by the hair into a kiss.
He eagerly kissed you back, biting down on your bottom lip, but not quite hard enough to break the skin.
With him over you like that, hair framing his face, everything felt like a dream. It was dark, but you could see the light of the moon catching on a sheen of sweat on his face, making his features even more intense.
Every single thrust sent you closer and closer to a pleasure you hadn’t been acquainted with yet until it got so intense that you had to squeeze your eyes shut tight and just hang on.
You came first, trying and failing to stifle a cry on your own, so he pressed his mouth against yours, swallowing it down. The feeling engulfed you like a wave, your fingers digging at his bicep.
He held you close to him, but it wasn’t until you were coming down that you realized he was whispering encouragement against the side of your mouth, sounding a little fucked out himself.
When he came, he let out a few choppy, raspy breaths against your face, his fingers wound tightly in the fabric of your dress.
You watched him come back to earth, and you weren’t sure if it was a post-orgasm haze or a real emotional response, but you were convinced in that moment that he was the most beautiful human you’d ever seen. For a brief second, you hated yourself for not appreciating it for all the years you’d known him. You couldn’t make any promises to yourself in your heightened emotional state, but you wanted to tell him.
But what the hell would you say?
He pulled out, helping you sit up. Your whole body felt weak, so you both just sat there for a minute, staring at each other.
The silence was entirely comfortable for you, but you wondered for a second if it wasn’t for him. If you knew him like you thought you did, he was probably reading the silence as a sign of regret and the thought broke your heart in a way you hadn’t expected.
You leaned in and hugged him tight, pressing a kiss against his cheek and feeling him melt into it.
There was no stopping yourself from wondering if he was feeling the way you did. You wanted to ask, but suddenly you were faced with the possibility that he didn’t.
Heart racing as you pulled away, you nervously bit your lip.
“What now?” you chanced, voice so quiet it was almost swallowed up by the sound of the waves.
He gave you a sugar-sweet smile and dragged his knuckle down your jawline. “You tell me.”
After you both redressed and got yourselves looking somewhat presentable, he walked you back up to the room.
A shower sounded nice, but after a moment of consideration, you decided that you’d used all of the energy you were willing to give for the day.
So you changed into a pair of loose shorts and a t-shirt in the bathroom, and when you came back out, he was already snuggled into his bed, smiling at you sleepily.
You huffed a laugh at him, but when you pulled back the blankets to your own bed, his smile fell.
“You don’t wanna come over here?” he asked, sounding like a kicked puppy.
You looked over at him through your lashes. At least a quarter of the nights you’d known him had been spent sleeping within a foot or two of him, but this was different.
“Of course, I do,” you assured with a sheepish smile.
You weren’t sure if you had been expecting to feel differently once you weren’t actively having sex with him, but as you crawled into his bed, you realized that you didn’t.
Nothing felt different, and yet everything had changed.
You laid face to face with him, taking it all in.
Once he figured out that you weren’t going to make any moves, he reached past you and flicked off the light. He gave you one, chaste little kiss before pulling you close.
+++
Your flight home didn’t start boarding until 11 pm, but you’d never been good about sleeping on planes, so you settled in with a book and a can of cola.
The seats were set up in rows of three, so it ended up being you and Josh sitting together with a stranger and your parents in the row ahead.
He was sleepy - you could tell because he kept rubbing at his eyes like he was trying to keep them open.
“Get some sleep,” you instructed with a giggle as he leaned his head against the window.
“Wanna wait at least until we take off.”
The stranger on your other side, however, already had her head leaned back on a neck pillow, big headphones covering her ears.
Through the cracks in the seats, you could see your parents settling in for the night, getting ready to sleep through the nearly eight-hour flight.
Josh was just barely still awake by the time you were sure your parents were asleep, and you were comfortable enough to chance turning to him. You grabbed his chin with your fingers and kissed him slowly, feeling your heartbeat pick up.
You wanted him to know that you hoped this was the new normal - that back home, you wanted to stay this close.
He looked a little stunned when you pulled away, just sitting there blinking at you, but after his tired mind caught up with itself, he grinned at you, showing his teeth.
He pulled your head down to his shoulder and nuzzled his cheek against it, lacing your fingers together and letting them rest on his lap.
Maybe you were going to be able to sleep after all.
Note: thanks again to anyone that leaves any kind of note for me. I fucking love them and they keep me going. <3

As a camp counsellor, Cristina was supposed to set a good example for the campers. She was supposed to make sure they followed all the rules, including following curfew. Being a good camp counsellor probably meant she wasn’t supposed to be sitting on the floor of the camp kitchens at midnight crying over a tub of ice cream. Alas, Emma didn’t care about the fact that Cristina was supposed to set a good example, nor the fact that the first night of camp was way too early to be breaking the rules.
Emma’s cravings were not the only reason Cristina was in need of some ice cream. Cristina’s year had been miserable; she’d been dumped by her boyfriend and had had to put up with Zara Dearborn all year. Her best friend had completely shut her out for no reason, and had proceeded to run off to Switzerland. Or Sweden. Maybe it had been Italy; Cristina wouldn’t know. He hadn’t exactly sent postcards.
Ice cream seemed to be an appropriate substitute for fake best friends and boys; besides, Cristina was back with her real best friends who had bothered to send postcards, or at least bothered to keep in touch. Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn had become Cristina’s best friends last summer when they’d all met at camp. They had clicked instantly, and by summers end had agreed they would all come back the next summer to counsel once again.
Last summer, Emma and Julian had fallen in love. Cristina hadn’t been bothered by it; she had been crushing on Mark Blackthorn at the time, but he’d been too busy fawning over Kieran Hunter to notice. She hadn’t really cared, because although Emma and Julian were having an epic love story, they never once made Cristina feel left out. However, now that things with Diego had ended badly, Cristina hoped she might get her own epic love story this summer.
“I hate men,” Cristina blurted out randomly. She’d talked so much shit about Diego this year after he’d broken her heart, it was beginning to come her catchphrase. She didn’t actually hate men; but heartbreak could drive even flowery goddesses like Cristina to such statements.
“Same,” Emma agreed, but she didn’t look very convincing. She sat in Julian’s arms, between his legs with his arms wrapped around her waist. She was painting his nails, wearing his hoodie, and had her brows furrowed in concentration. Julian, who had had his head buried in her neck, looked up. His fluffy brown hair was messy and he arched one brow.
“You don’t hate me,” He said.
“You’re right. I don’t. What were we talking about again?” Emma asked, as if her concentration was just now breaking. Julian kissed her cheek and she went back to painting his nails. Cristina felt a pang. She knew Julian and Emma would never purposely try and make her feel single. She also knew that they had lived equally as far away from each other as they had Cristina the past year. Emma had travelling with her parents for the year, while Julian had been in sunny LA. Still, Cristina felt a little lonely.
Cristina could have lost herself in thought right then and there in the refrigerator light of the kitchens. Instead, she was interrupted but a loud bang and the light switching on. She jumped and yelped, worried that maybe they’d been caught. She glanced at Julian and Emma. Emma’s eyes were wild with surprise, and Julian had a black smudge of nail polish on one of his fingers.
There was another clash, and the loud yell of someone cursing. On impulse, Cristina stood up to see who was there. There, in the middle of the kitchen, stood Mark Blackthorn, hair messy from the humidity. He stood in the middle of the kitchen trying not to knock over another metal tray. He glanced up, and smiled upon seeing Cristina, Emma and Julian.
He might have said hello, but Cristina could really hear. Last summer, she’d thought she’d fallen hard for Mark, but that was nothing compared to what she felt now. His voice was still the same familiar sound it had been last summer when he’d told stories around the campfire, and it struck a chord of nostalgia as Cristina found herself reminiscing on her old crush.
It was just nostalgia, Cristina told herself. Julian and Emma might have made her want a summer romance, but Cristina wasn’t sure if she trusted herself around love anymore. Maybe her heart was still fragile, but then again, weren’t all hearts fragile?
“Cristina, isn’t it?” Mark said. Cristina tried to bring herself back to reality. She must have missed the first half of introductions, because Mark had overcome his clumsiness and now the rest of the group were looking at her expectantly.
“Hi,” Cristina said, suppressing the rollercoaster of emotions she’d just felt. She smiled politely; probably a little too politely for a bunch on nineteen year olds on summer vacation. Mark beamed back. Maybe it was the dim kitchen lighting, but there was a splash on red on Mark’s cheeks.
Another voice followed Cristina’s; a new one, less familiar to Cristina.
“Mark?” The voice whispered. “Did you get the ice cream?”
“Come in, Kier,” Mark replied to the voice. Kieran Hunter entered the kitchen, and the first thing Cristina noticed was that he’d dyed his black hair from last summer blue. The second thing she noticed was that he was considerably hotter than he had been last summer.
“Hi,” Kieran said, a little shyer than Mark had been.
“We were just going to get some ice cream and go look at the stars. Kier and I don’t get to see those much in New York,” Mark addressed the whole group, but then turned to Cristina. “You guys want to come?”
As the walked to the lake, Cristina found herself wedged between Kieran and Mark. At first she’d been with Emma and Jules, but the two of them hung back slightly, and Cristina wanted to give them privacy. Occasionally she’d look back to see if they were still following, and she’d see them walking hand in hand with heads bent together whispering.
If Cristina had expected it to be awkward with Mark and Kieran, it wasn’t. Kieran had been a little quiet at first, but Mark was a natural conversationalist. Not in the polite chit chat way, but in the way he could say the most bizarre things and turn it into a meaningful conversation. To Cristina’s relief, Kieran finally warmed up. He knew a lot of the constellations and the legends behind them. Cristina couldn’t help looking at him. He had an ethereal sort of beauty, reminding Cristina of the fair folk he described and he talked about the myths behind the stars.
When they reached the lake, Emma approached Cristina. She looked a little guilty, so Cristina braced herself.
“Tina,” Emma started. “Would you absolutely hate me if I went for a walk with Jules? We might just walk back to the bunks we’re both ex-,”
“Emma,” Cristina said calmly. “It’s fine. You are both looking each other like lovesick puppies. Go get all the love out of your system.
Emma smiled, but glanced worriedly at Mark and Kieran.
“I don’t want to leave you if it’s awkward-,”
“It’s fine,” Cristina insisted, surprising herself. She didn’t mind being left with new people if it was what she had to do, but for some reason she actually wanted to stay with Kieran and Mark. Maybe it was awful of her, to be intruding in on them. She promised herself that if she felt like a third wheel, she’d leave.
Cristina plopped herself down on the ground beside Mark and Kieran. Mark was in the middle of the three.
“What was that about?” He asked, looking suspiciously in the direction of his younger brother.
“They wanted to go for a walk,” Cristina said innocently. From the corner of her eye, she could see Kieran grin.
“Are you cold, Cristina?” Mark asked, and Cristina was a little taken aback by him offering her som of the blanket. She accepted with a little nod, and saddening all three of them were huddled together with the one blanket wrapped around them.
Kieran nudged his boyfriend playfully.
“Don’t you want to know how I’m feeling?” He asked, his steel grey eyes silver in the moonlight.
“I got you your ice cream. I got you your blanket. What more do you want from me?” Mark laughed, and Cristina felt another pang, only this time it wasn’t loneliness.
Here she was, with two beautiful boys beside her, and Cristina felt equally captivated by both of them.

Detective Chuckles pt 3
Okay so I’m just a slut for Jay fluff
Jay Halstead x reader
“Hey, is this seat taken?” Jay teased as he waltzed over lazily to my desk, dragging a chair from Ruzek’s desk along with him.
“Looks like it,” I winked as I smiled at him. “What’re you doing up here?”
“Case took a turn, we ended up finding the kid faster than we thought. The parents were having custody problems and the kid’s mom had him kidnapped so she could keep him. We ended up finding him held up in a hotel room with the mom.”
Jay always liked to tell me about their cases, I never got to see much of the action as it actually went down. All I got to do usually was reading over reports and getting warrants, that type of menial shit. He knew I liked to hear about the cases that had a happy ending though. It restored my faith in humanity a little to be reminded that good things still do happen.
“So the boy’s okay?”
“Yeah, he thought he was just on vacation with mommy.” Jay assured as he drummed his fingers on my desk.
“Good I’m glad. I hate when there’s kids involved. I’ll be right back,” I told him as I rose from my seat.
“Hurry back or I might start messing with your stuff” he teased.
I sauntered over to Voight’s office with my handy dandy Manila folder in hand, “Hey boss man can I get you to sign these couple of things for me? It’s just the last couple of reports from the bank robbery.”
“Yeah sure,” he signed but stopped me before I could turn to leave.
“So how’s things going with uh.. you two” he motioned to Jay.
“Oh things are fine, nothing to eventful. But I’m happy, Jay’s good to me. Even on particularly hard days.”
Voight doesn’t smile much but he did then, “mm. Good. He’s really crazy about you. He’s focused in the field but he’s always glad to come back to the office to you. He thinks about you a lot.”
I smiled at the thought, I knew that Voight thought of Jay like a son but I never thought that Jay would confide in him about me. Well, maybe I did but it just never came to mind.
“I won’t lie I do worry when y’all go out into the field, about all of you of course but I worry about him the most. I always say a little prayer when you guys walk out that door.”
“So do I.” He said quietly.
As I walked back to my desk Jay was using my stapler to shoot staples towards Atwater. He was goofy but I liked that he wasn’t always so serious. His smile made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
“Soooo I’ve got a proposition for you sweet cheeks.” He teased as I sat back in my chair.
“Oh yeah what’s that?”
“You stay at my place tonight... I order a pizza and we can stay in and watch a movie?” He gave me his best puppy dog eyes as he asked.
“Sure, that sounds great actually.” I smiled back at him, he looked like a kid on Christmas. Even after dating for around 4 ish months he still got so excited whenever I’d agree to hang out with him like it was our very first date.
After work was all done and over with Jay drove us home to his apartment with a quick pit stop at my house to grab some stuff to stay the night at his place. For whatever reason I found it charming that he’d go inside and sit with me while I got my things together instead of sitting outside in the truck.
An hour later we were cuddled up on his couch, watching Saw and eating pizza from this little mom and pop joint down the road. I liked nights in like that with Jay, just laid up on the couch and enjoying his presence.
For a moment I found myself staring at him, thinking about my conversation with Voight. I always worried about him at work, but I always knew deep down that he’d come back alright. That didn’t stop me, however, from staring at him trying to take in every detail of the moment.
I wanted to memorize his face, his actions, everything right down to his smile sometimes just Incase that would be all I had left of him at the end of the day.
“Whatcha looking at babe?” He smiled a little
“You.” He held my hand for a moment
“I like the way your hand fits in mine.” He blushed as he said it.
“I do too,” I whispered as I planted a small kiss on his cheek.
“I uh... I’m not good with words but these past few months have been great. You make me feel like I’m on top of the world you know.” He said as he looked down at our hands intertwined.
I stroked his cheek for a moment with my free hand,” I know babe.” I whispered. With that he pulled me closer into his chest and we laid there just like that, until the both of us drifted off to sleep at last.

*****************************************************************************************************
You looked in the mirror with frustrated tears in your eyes. Today was the first day of school after summer vacation and it was your first official day as a teacher. Most teachers wore their hero outfits to work but given the fact you were 4 months pregnant there was no way you were going to fit in your skin tight costume. Yet here you stood anyways trying to get it to stretch like the idiot you were.
You hadn’t even noticed Katsuki walk up behind you until he was wrapping his arms around you. He kissed your bare shoulder, “Hey I thought we talked about this. No tears over something this silly. You are gorgeous. Fuck that stupid costume. I like the dress you picked out last night. It shows off that adorable bump you’re rocking.”
You chuckled as you dried your tears on the back of your hand, “I know, I know. I just didn't think I’d be rocking such a big bump so soon. I wasn’t ready.”
He turned you around to face him rather than the mean mirror that seemed to mock you. “Hey you’re literally growing a human right now. Kids likely going to be the next number one hero. Of course he’s going to need a little extra room.” He knelt down and gave your belly a quick kiss. “I think you're beautiful.”
You ran your fingers through his hair, “You seem so sure it’s going to be a boy, but I still think it’s going to be a girl. I don’t know why but I just have this gut feeling.”
He stood up now to continue getting ready for his own work day, “Gut feeling huh? You sure its not just gas? You’ve had a lot of tha-” You threw your show at him, “OI! Relax its just a joke!”
You had already pulled on your new dress. “It better be a joke! I may be pregnant but I’ll still kick your ass!” You sat down on the edge of the bed and gave him puppy dog eyes, “Now can you please help me with my shoes?” You were already so short that even the smallest baby bump made you look round and awkward. You wiggled your foot in his direction.
“Tck, you mean the shoe you just threw at me?”
You nodded with those big puppy dog eyes you had learned from Kitty, “I mean I’d say it was more of a toss than a throw. Pleaaaase my back is already killing me and I don’t want to lean over.”
He sighed before kneeling down to help pull your shoes on, “You are so lucky I love you. Last time you threw something at me it ended up a little differently.”
You blushed as you remembered all those months ago and the snowball that started it all. “Hey but if I hadn't thrown that snowball who knows if we’d be here now.”
He simply shrugged as he stood up, “Maybe not exactly here, you know in a new house with a dog and expecting a kid, but I think we’d be together.” He smiled at you, “We’re both too stubborn to have waited much longer.”
You smiled back at him and ran a lazy hand over your stomach, “I just hope she doesn't inherit that. Last thing we need is a hard headed female Bakugo.”
He squinted, “Oi, it could still be a boy!”
“Well I guess we’ll find out today won't we?”
He kissed you're forehead, “Yes we will. I’ll pick you up after school and we’ll go together alright?”
You hummed in response already feeling the anxiety of the day start to bubble up. First day as a teacher, finding out the gender of your baby, it was going to be an eventful day.
You hooked Zuko up to his leash and locked the door behind you. It was the only special request that Katsuki had made. You’re close enough to UA to walk but you had to take Zuko with you. The doctor said that walking was great exercise and you intended to stick to it as long as you could.
The walk probably took you no longer than twenty minutes and before you knew it you were at your desk staring into the faces of a bunch of scared first years. Zuko was minding his business laying in a dog bed next to your desk. You could see a few students cut their eyes to him every so often almost like they were waiting for him to do something.
“Good morning class! I am Miss. Y/L/N. Some of you may know me as Adsum. I am going to be your teacher for this semester. This here is my dog Zuko. He goes everywhere I go. He’s not mean but I also wouldn't try to sneak up on him. He’s a friendly dog but he's also been trained by Ground Zero himself. Do you have any questions for me before we get started with orientation?”
Everyones hands shot straight up, “Let me rephrase that.. Any questions that are school related and have nothing to do with my personal life.” And just like that all the hands went down. “Great well let’s get started then shall we.”
You couldn’t help but feel right at home as you were teaching. It was almost like this was what you were meant to do. You still loved and missed hero work dearly but you felt like a natural when it came to teaching. Plenty of the teachers here still did hero work on the side, maybe you could too after the baby was born.
You’d like to think you made a good impression on the students. Most of them seemed to like you. There was one boy though who sat in the back and liked to challenge everything you said. His name was Yuuto and he had an attitude but it wasn’t anything you couldn't crack. He was very mild in comparison to how Katsuki was at his age.
Your first day went by in a blur and now you were waiting outside the front of the school with Zuko making small talk with Aizawa when Bakugo pulled up in an SUV you didn’t recognize. As soon as he stepped out of the car kids started swarming to him, “Oi! Fuck out of the way would you?”
You rolled your eyes and bid farewell to Aizawa as you went to save your boyfriend, “Everyone back up unless you want detention!” Your students immediately took a step back making room for you, all but one. The one troublesome boy from the back of the class, Yuuto. He didn't budge. He stood there with his hands in his pockets staring down Katsuki. That was not a good idea by any means because Katsuki automatically assumed this kid was sizing him up and being the over protective alpha male he was he wasn’t having any of that.
“Oi! You! Runt with his hands in his pockets come here!” Yuuto strolled over to Katsuki maintaining eye contact the whole time, “You got a problem with me kid?”
Yuuto was silent for a few moments before he sharply bowed, “Not at all sir, I just wanted to personally let you know that I will be keeping a close eye out for your wife while she is my teacher to make sure that no harm comes to her sir.”
You thought Katsuki would be irritated that this kid just called you his wife but instead he just smirked, “I’m pretty sure she could kick your ass but I like the enthusiasm. You got a name?”
“Yes sir. Yuuto sir.”
“Yuuto huh? Well Yuuto you can be my official point of contact how about that?”
His eyes lit up with pride, “Of course sir. Thank you sir.”
Aizawa strolled over to you, “That went better than expected. Bakugo has grown so much in the past year alone. He’s turning into a more patient and level headed version of his already passionate self.”
You smiled, “He really is something special. Yuuto proved to be a bit difficult in class today but I’m glad to see he has good intentions”
Aizawa chuckled, “Just so you know Yuuto is UA’s first student with Autism. He’s very bright and very determined. His quirk is tactical processing. He can analyze any situation and figure out a way to win. It’s very impressive, he’s almost like a human computer. His memory is amazing as well. He can recall exact words or scenarios from things that happened years ago. I think given enough guidance he could be one of the big three someday. You're lucky to have him in your class.”
It made sense now. Yuuto didn't have an attitude at all. He just lacked the same social cohesion that his fellow classmates had. You smiled at him as you walked over to your boyfriend who was now holding the car door open for you. “Thank you Yuuto, you know I’m not his wife yet but I too like your enthusiasm.”
Katsuki rolled his eyes, “Just get in the car women we’re going to be late!”
You giggled and hopped into the passenger seat. Taking a look around, it looked to be brand new. Katsuki was now in the driver seat and speeding off. “Is this a rental or....?”
He took your hand in his without taking his eyes off the road, “Huh? Oh! The Car! I almost forgot... Surprise! Y/n meet your new mommy mobile. I didn't think you’d want a mini van and I’m not ready to trade in my two seater yet so here we are, now a two car family.”
“OH MY GOD! BABY! YOU DIDNT!”
He gave you a weird look, “Y/n don’t look so surprised we’ve literally been talking about this for weeks. It’s not like we couldn't afford it, and with the baby coming we needed a new car.”
“Yeah but it’s like NEW new! I was expecting like a newish car you know?”
“Eh” He waved it off, “I totally didn't get you anything for your birthday so consider this a late present..”
You brought his hand up and gave it a quick kiss, “Thank you. And thank you for being nice to Yuuto earlier. He means well.”
He put his hand on you thigh, “Yeah, I could tell he was just trying to be helpful. In a weird way he kind of reminded me of Deku and it felt like a good opportunity to try and make up for the years I was a dick to him.”
*****
You were laying on the table getting freezing cold gel smeared onto your belly. Bakugo was sitting next to you hand squeezing yours as his knee bounced up and down. “I just know it’s going to be a boy.”
“Oh yeah? Well I just know it’s going to be a girl”
The ultra sound technician just laughed at us. “Well at this time I am able to determine the gender and I’m assuming you would both like to know?”
In unison you both yelled yes.
She smiled at you, “Alright well congratulations! You’re going to have a baby boy!”
Katsuki jumped up and started running around the room! “YES! I KNEW IT!” You smiled at your silly boyfriend. Sure you may have guessed wrong but you didn't care. You were going to have a sweet little mini Katsuki and you couldn’t be happier.
his celebration was cut short when the ultrasound machine made a weird noise started and the screen started to go black. You froze and clamped your hand down on Bakugo’s, “What was that?”
The technician gave the machine a perplexed look. I dont know. That’s odd. The machine malfunctioned. Its a new machine it shouldn't be having any problems.” She shrugged, “I guess I’ll just have to turn it in to IT and see if they can fix it.”
But that wasnt the last time that happened to you. Every time you went in for a check up after that the ultrasound machine would malfunction. It was really freaking you out and Katsuki was about to have a fit. “WHAT KIND OF FUCKING HOSPITAL DOSENT HAVE MACHINES THAT ACTUALLY FUCKING WORK!”
The nurse had to remind him that you were in the maternity ward and that yelling could be stressful for the other mothers. But of course that didn't stop his rampage.
Finally a doctor pulled you into his office to try and put your worries to rest. “So I checked into the ultrasound footage for your past three check ups. And it seems the ultrasound machine is always fine but it always cuts out exactly six and a half minutes in. Your technician brings them to our IT department and they can never find anything wrong with the machines.”
Bakugo gave him an incredulous look, “Well something isn't right, and unless you figure it out we’ll be finding another hospital. This is fucking ridiculous.”
“Rest assured I believe I know what the problem may be. The fact the machines work for everyone else except you and it always cuts out after six and a half minutes... well thats a pattern and it leads me to believe that your child, while still being in the womb, may be showing signs of some kind of quirk. It is very rare but it does happen from time to time. Kids are starting to develop quirks younger and younger every year. If this is the case it’s likely their quirk will be very strong by the time they reach maturity. You’ll likely have your hands full.”
Your heart was racing. Your little baby was developing a quirk early? What if he blew you up.. fuck what if he teleported out of you and.... “No!”
Both the doctor and Bakugo’s snapped to you with worry. “I don’t want him to develop early! What if he hurts himself?”
You were shaking now and Bakugo was pulling you into his chest. His eyes narrowed at the doctor, “Is that possible? Could something happen to him?”
The doctor took a deep sigh, “Well I dont like making promises but from what I can tell whatever the child’s quirk may be it doesn't seem destructive. Its somehow messing with the machines so I would say its more psychologically based. Something he can control with his mind, even if he doesn't realize he's doing it right now.”
Bakugo blinked a few times, “.... well that’s just badass...”

So my sister and my nephew just moved in with us and my nephew has autism. Hes 8 and he was bullied so bad in school he tried to commit suicide. He’s doing better now and has developed a love for super heros. He and I love to watch anything super hero related together. He’s a tad too young for MHA right now but he honestly does remind me of Midoriya sometimes. He asked me the other day why there was no super heros like him and it made me kind of sad. The character Yuuto is lightly based off of him. Everyone deserves the right to be a hero.

Fun, Family, and Fishing
Fair Game Week 2020: Day 3 - Family / Weapons
Read it on AO3 here.
After months of planning, they were finally going on their camping trip, and boy did it take planning. It was a hard time to find a time where five adults were all free for a vacation. Eventually, they all decided to embark on their trip during the summer when Tai was free from his teaching job, and when fishing was in season. Qrow, Clover, Summer, and Raven just decided to use their sick days to get the time off. At first, it was just going to be them and Ruby and Yang, but then they begged their parents to let their friends Weiss and Blake tag along. They gave in quickly. They knew they could handle two more kids, and quickly met with the other kid’s parents to get the okay from them. To all the kids’ delight, they agreed. But then, all four of them ganged up on the adults to convince them to let their other friends, Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren, join in on the trip. The kids were around so much they practically were family, but eight kids seemed like too much, so at first, they said no. Then they saw the children’s puppy eyes. Then they fell for the puppy eyes and pleas. Then they went to get permission from all the kids’ guardians. And then they modified their plans to include eight kids instead of four kids, which had first only planned for two kids. It was hectic, to say the least, but it all worked out. They ended up renting two RVs and getting more supplies than they could carry. After a day of driving and trying to keep middle school kids entertained, they reached their reserved campsite nightfall, exhausted and tired. They decided to begin their activities the next day. Tai and Clover were the first to wake, used to an early schedule.
“Morning Tai.”
“Morning Clover.” They both began unloading the supplies for breakfast, though most of the cooking would be done by Tai. Clover wasn’t allowed to cook after the time he burned soup, which no one ever let him forget. The only thing he could cook well was fish.
“So, how was your night?”
“Pretty good, all things considered. Team JNPR fell asleep pretty quickly, and Qrow too. He is pretty good with kids after all.”
“Team JNPR?” Tai questioned.
“It’s what Qrow calls Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren’s group.” Clover clarified. “He calls the girls Team RWBY.”
“Hmm, I’m gonna steal that from him. If anyone asks, I thought of it on my own.”
“My lips are sealed.” Clover said as he motioned his lips shut.
“Anyways, my night was terrible. Try falling asleep while teenage girls giggle until midnight, AND, while Raven snores. I don’t know how Summer even fell asleep in the first place.”
“Damn. Well, at least we’ll have tents to sleep in tonight while the kids sleep in the RV.”
“Yeah, but I can only imagine what that’s going to do to my back.”
“Oh Tai, you say that like we're old men. We’re only barely fourty.” Clover shook his head at the silly notion.
“I do crossword puzzles on my lunch breaks and you collect vintage fishing tackles.” He deadpanned, looking Clover straight into his eyes. Clover opened his mouth to refute the statement, but realized Tai was right.
“Okay. I see your point.” Clover conceded. There was also the fact that he was starting to gray on his sides. He liked how it looked though, and so did Qrow, whose hair was already colored salt and pepper. As Tai started breakfast, Clover took out the tent equipment. The next to awake were Ren, Nora, and Qrow.
“Good morning Uncle Clover and Mr. Xiao-Long.” Nora greeted cheerfully. She and the other kids had started calling Qrow Uncle Qrow in elementary school when they started hanging out with Ruby and Yang and their cool uncle. He didn’t particularly like it at first, but soon grew accustomed to it. And when he married Clover, it was only natural that they would call Clover Uncle Clover. Needless to say, Clover felt honored and readily accepted the title, especially since he was an only child and therefore couldn’t have nieces or nephews. Ren, still waking up, had also given a respectful “Good morning as well.”
“Morning, and please tell me someone made coffee.” Qrow asked, his drowsiness evident. The drowsiness certainly wasn’t going to stop him from giving his husband a good morning kiss on the cheek though.
“Lucky for you, Tai did. I’ll get you some.” Clover went and poured him a cup of pure black coffee.
“Thanks Cloves.” He said as he eyed the cup as if it held the secrets of life. Graciously, he took a sip. “Ahh, that's the stuff.” He smiled as he began to feel the drowsiness fade away.
“Uncle Clover! Can I have some?” Nora asked with bright eyed innocence.
“Uhh,” he responded at first. He didn’t really know if he should give her any, but got his answer from Ren who seemed wide awake now. Behind her, he mouthed “no” and fearfully shook his head.  “No.”
“Aww, why not?” she asked, deflated.
“Because …” she stared at him as he tried to think of a reason.
“It’ll stunt your growth. You want to grow big and strong like your uncles, don’t you? Of course you do.” He quickly said before she could answer. “Here, have some juice.” He tossed her a box of some juice, which she caught.
“Thanks Uncle Qrow!”
“No problem kiddo.” She then moved over to Tai to see what he was cooking. Clover let out a sigh of relief.
“Thanks you two.”
“No need to thank us. We just don’t want Nora to run off in the wilderness and come back with a bear slung over her back.” Qrow told his husband as he took another sip.
“If you think she’s hyper now, you should have seen what happened in fifth grade when she drank an energy drink.” Ren, nursing a box of juice as well, said as he looked into the distance as if reliving a war memory.
“I’m pretty sure it left poor old Tai traumatized. But hey, he’s still an elementary school teacher, so it obviously wasn’t that bad.”
“I do not envy Tai’s work.” Clover replied as he sat down next to Qrow to take a break from unpacking. Next to wake up was Raven and Summer.
“Good morning. my wonderful wives.” Tai greeted them each with a kiss as he held a pan of cooking food.
“Too. Energetic.” Summer was obviously not a morning person “Need. Coffee.” She still had her eyes closed Raven guided her to a seat. She poured herself and her wife a cup.
“Morning Raven. You look great.” Qrow teased. She had a serious case of bedhead, which Qrow could not help but make fun of.
“I will throw you into the river, and I will laugh when your eyeliner gets ruined, little brother.” She glared at him as she took a long sip.
“Jokes on you, I didn't bring any.” He laughed at her, as she could only scowl at him. “Besides, I’d just have my knight in shining armor rescue me.” He gave Clover another kiss, which caused him to blush.
“Aww, look at that. Qrow and Clover sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.” teased Summer, who had turned back to her usual self thanks to the coffee. Now Qrow and Clover were both blushing.
“Ha! Look at them! Nice one!” Raven exclaimed as she high fived her wife. Before anymore could be said or done, Tai announced that breakfast was done, and asked them to wake the rest of the kids.
“This isn’t over, Summer.” Clover mocked as he motioned that he would be keeping his eyes on her, his cheeks still flushed.
“Oh, I know.” she said as she smiled, excited for the antics that would follow, and went to wake up Team RWBY. While Clover went to wake up Jaune and Pyrrah, Raven and Qrow only glared at each other, occasionally taking a sip of their coffee.
With all the kids now up, the real party would begin. After eating and mingling with one another, they changed into their outfits for the main event of the day: a fishing contest. Tai had decided that he would stay behind to watch the stuff. Ren, Nora, Ruby, and Weiss had decided to stay with him, since Nora and Weiss didn’t like getting wet, and Ren and Ruby didn't want to leave their best friend behind. When Tai told them they could help with the tents, Ruby screamed “Yay! Child labor!” which had caused all the adults to laugh, except for Tai, who looked sad and tired already.
The last ones to change into their fishing outfits were Qrow and Clover. Everyone expected him to look the most prepared because the man had been fishing most of his life, and he did look the most prepared. A fishing vest, with his signature pin tacked on, cargo shorts, and shoes with good grip were all immaculate, despite years of use, save for the shoes that were recently bought. He looked like he was about to enter a fishing contest, save for one particular part of his clothing: his hat. It was a gift from his fathers on his twentieth birthday, much like his prized fishing pole that he lovingly monikered after his favorite bird, “aside from Qrow” he would often clarify, the Kingfisher. Naturally he carried the fishing pole and wore the hat with pride. What made the hat so unaligned with his outfit was the fact that it said “Men want me Fish fear me” on it. Stepping out of the RV with Qrow, Clover saw Raven do a double take. Once she was able to make out the words on the hat, she began to die of laughter, which caused Summer to turn to look at what had made her wife laugh so hard. As a result, she began to laugh as well, calling her husband over in between laughs. Soon, he was dying of laughter as well. Qrow took in a deep breath and exhaled.
“You’re lucky I love you.”
“I know, and it’s all thanks to my good luck charm.” Clover sing-songed as he kissed Qrow on the cheek. He tried to hide a smile, but failed miserably. “Come on Qrow, let's go win our fishing contest.” Raven And Summer began to laugh even harder.
“You hear that Rav! They think- They think they’re gonna win!” They continued laughing.
“Laugh all you want now, we’ll see if you’ll be laughing later when you’re eating the fish we caught.” Clover taunted.
“I hope you like the taste of defeat, ladies.” Qrow said cooly, as if he and Clover already won.
“I’m sure they will. Now, let's get going. It’s already noon.” With that, Clover led the way to the river, Qrow by his side, the kids in tow playing around, and Summer and Raven behind the kids, recovering from their laughing fit. Soon, they arrived at a place where the deep river forked, one path remaining deep, the other turning shallow. As the kids played in the shallow area, the adults set up their fishing rods and chairs, one of them periodically going to the nearby shallow area to check in on the kids.
“All set!” exclaimed, the first to finish setting up. He stood back and admired his handiwork, everything neat and orderly. With that, he cast out his line, and waited. Next to finish setting up was Qrow, but only because he had Clover help him. Immediately after was Summer. While she wasn’t nowhere as talented in fishing as Clover, she was still a force to be reckoned with. Lastly was Raven, who was decent at fishing with a pole. And so, they waited, chatting about current events, their jobs, and the kids.
“So thats where Ruby learned about child labor, huh?” asked Qrow.
“Yup.” Confirmed Summer. “Speaking of Ruby, she recently asked when she’s going to have some cousins, and frankly, I wanna know too.” The two men began stumbling over each other’s words, explaining that they talked about it here and there, but never really seriously.
“Now’s as good a time as any.” Raven spoke. “You’re both about middle aged, have stable jobs with a good retirement plan, and you have us to help you out if you ever need it. After this trip, think about it maybe.”
“Wow Raven, that’s ... actually some good advice. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, Clover. I dragged it out from the kindness I keep in my heart.” Raven joked, putting a hand over her heart.
“You have a heart? I wouldn’t have ever known.” said a smug Qrow.
“Fine then, fuck you. I just wanted to have another person to tell all the embarrassing stories I have about you.” She angrily, almost comically, cast a line back into the water.
“Hey, watch you’re fucking language, there’s kids nearby.” Clover reprimanded, pretending to be serious. They all just laughed. The loud children were too far away to be able to discern their words.
“Eh, but seriously, thanks Rae, we’ll think about it.”
“If it helps, just know that I would make a great auntie.”
“I’m sure you would, Summer.” Qrow replied, mostly focusing on the fishing rod.
“You know, there is one thing we talked about.” Clover teased, immediately grabbing the attention of the two women.
“Oh, yeah! Names. We were thinking either Basil, or Bluebird.”
“Those are nice.” Raven replied.
“They are. I get Bluebird,” Summer stated, “but how did you decide on Basil?”
“Like my namesake, it’s another plant that can bring good luck.” Clover clarified.
“Ahh, I see. Oh! Clover! Look!”  Summer shouted. His pole had hooked onto something, and after a bit of fighting, Clover reeled in a decently sized fish.
“Think you could top this?” Clover asked Qrow specifically, with a wink and a smirk on his face as he put the fish in a bucket of water.
“I mean, I have before.” He replied, unphased. It took a moment for the women to catch on to what he said. Once they realized, they made sounds of disgust and made sure it was known.
“Ugh! Gods have mercy on me!” Summer screeched in desperation, covering her ears.
“I wouldn’t waste my breath if I were you. Trust me, I know. You know how many times they didn't show me any mercy in college.” Qrow shuddered at the memories of him accidentally walking in on Raven, Summer, and Tai. They resumed their normal conversations and soon slipped into comfortable silence, each of them catching a fish now and then, except for Qrow. By the time lunch rolled around and the kids had eaten and resumed their playing, Qrow had still caught nothing. Currently in the lead was Raven, though Clover had wondered why the fish weren’t as big as they usually were. He just chalked it up to luck.
“Fuck it.” Qrow said. He rolled up his pants and waded into the river. Clover watched in curiosity as his husband stood still with laser focus in knee deep water. Soon, his curiosity was replaced with awe as the man shot into the water and resurfaced with a fish that put him in the lead. Clover wouldn’t have said it out loud, but seeing Qrow glistening in the river with a big fish in his hands was kind of hot.
“Qrow where the hell did you learn that!? That was amazing!” After Qrow placed his catch in his bucket, he was met with a kiss on the lips.
“Looks like I better catch more fish if this is my reward, huh?” Qrow asked, knowing the answer to his question. Clover whispered his answer into Qrow’s ear. Apparently, he did not know the answer. His face got visibly redder, and he quickly went back into the river.
“Don’t think about it, don't think about it, don't think about it.” Summer repeated to herself.
“I think I know how to help with that.” Raven walked over to Summer, gave her a kiss, then walked into the water. Needless to say, it worked. Soon, after Clover and Summer caught another fish, too small to dethrone Qrow, Raven striked, and reemerged with two fish in hand, one big enough to take the lead. “We learned lots of things back when we were a part of that traveling tribe. Some of us learned better than others.” Suavely, she tossed the smaller fish back into the water and replaced the fish in her bucket with the bigger one as Summer cheered her on.
Sibling rivalry mode was in full swing among the pair. Mostly in silence, they continued their contest. Qrow managed to catch a bigger one, but was dethroned by Clover, which he didn't mind. Meanwhile, poor Summer remained in last place. She was starting to lose hope, until something that seemed particularly big got hooked onto her pole. By then, Raven and Summer had left the water and had packed up most of the stuff. She fought with it, slowly but surely making progress. However, as she was fighting the fish standing up, she slipped, sending her into the center of the river, where it was deepest. Summer had lost her rod, but had fortunately felt someone tug her back to the surface. As she broke the surface, she gasped for air.
“Oh Raven, my love, you saved me. That’s what a real knight in shining armor is like Qrow!” Her eyes still closed and cradled in a set of arms, she moved to give her savior a kiss, but felt something that something was off, and stopped. “Wait a minute…” she reached for the chest area and gave a light squeeze. They were thick,  nowhere as  plump as Raven’s, but thicker than Qrow’s. She knew that it could only mean one thing. She rubbed her eyes and opened them to face Clover.
“A real knight in shining armor huh?” he asked smugly. She gave a small scream and squirmed about, falling back into the water.
“None of you saw or heard any of that!” she yelled, pointing a finger at all of them. Her heart dropped when she saw Qrow on shore, holding his phone, the camera light on. “Oh gods no.”
“I did say it wasn’t over, remember? This’ll make for a great video to show everyone.”
“You monster!” she yelled as she pretended to try to drown the man, though that would be difficult, considering he practically grew up in water. Meanwhile, Clover was laughing and Qrow was laughing as he ran from Raven who was trying to steal his phone so she could protect her wife’s honor by deleting the video. However, their antics were interrupted.
“Mom! Uncle Qrow! Look what Blake caught!” Yang shouted from down the river. In the distance, they could make out what looked to be a large fish.
“Holy fuck...” Qrow stated in awe.
“Don’t tell me...” said Raven, also awestruck. “Hey!” she shouted at Clover and Summer. “Meet us down the river with the kids. You’ll want to see this!”
“Oh boy...” Clover knew that with this family, it was bound to be something interesting, to say the least. He and Summer swam over, seeing the figure Blake had dragged in becoming clearer and clearer. They could also see Raven checking Blake to make sure she was alright as Qrow untangled the line from the caught fish.
“No. Way. “They both said in unison. Once they reached shallow enough water, They ran to confirm that Blake was alright, and that she had indeed caught the fish that threw Summer into the water. Blake’s shyness was evident as her friends showered her with praise.
“Blake! Where did you learn to do that!? That was amazing!” asked Yang, proud of her best friend.
“That, its nothing.” she shied away, pushing her wet hair out of her face and turning her head to hide a blush. “I’ve been doing it with my mom since I was young. Really, it’s nothing spectacular.”
“Hey, don’t sell yourself short kid, that thing’s half your size. That’s nothing to sneeze at.” said Qrow. He had had low self esteem for a long time, and wasn’t about to let any of the kids put themselves down.
“That is very incredible Blake, but try not to do that again without letting us know. We just don’t want anything bad to happen.” clover explained.
“Yes, of course, I’ll be sure to let one of you know next time.” she stated.
“You do know what this means, right Blake?” asked Summer.
“Uhh, no?”
“It means you won our fishing contests silly! You caught the biggest fish! You Win!” Blake was confused at first when she was picked up by Raven and placed on her shoulder.
“That also means you get to lead the victory parade, little champion.”
“Ooh, mom, pick me up too!” Yang exclaimed. She wasn’t going to refuse. She had seen how close the little champion and her daughter were getting. It brought her comfort to know her daughter would be with such a strong person. Once the equipment and dinner packed and ready for transport, they marched back to their campsite, the children shouting Blake’s name as she was carried in front.
“Damn, what are the Belladonnas feeding her?” Clover wondered.
“Pure protein, by the looks of it.” Summer replied.
“Well, at least she’s alright.” Qrow said.
“Yeah.” agreed Summer and Clover.
The sun was beginning to set by the time they returned. By then, they were all beginning to feel tired and hungry once more. Tai and Clover made sure to make the fish mouth watering delicious. The served the first piece to Blake, whose mouth was watering at the sight. While the kids ate and Yang retold the story of how her bff caught the beat, the adults chatted some more. After dinner, they all roasted marshmallows and told scary stories. If anyone had asked Clover if he had yelped and grabbed onto his husband’s arm when an ominous howl coincided with the climax of Tai’s scary story, he would say it didn’t happen. Everyone else would beg to differ, especially Qrow. As it got later, the fire died and the kids who wanted to sleep outside retired to a tent, while the kids who wanted to sleep inside retired to the RVs. While there was room for the adults in the RV, they wanted to appreciate the cool air and beautiful night sky.
“Hey, Clover?”
“Yes, my Lucky Charm?”
“It’s been a nice day with you, and them.” Clover hummed in agreement.
“It has. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” They laid together in comfortable silence for a moment more, taking in the starry sky through their clear-topped tent.
“Beautiful view, isn’t it?” Qrow asked. Clover turned to face him. His deep crimson eyes shone a unique brilliance that was incomparable to anything else. Qrow had just looked so serene in the light of the moon and stars and the darkness of the night. Clover found himself enamored.
“Most beautiful sight in the world, if I must say.”
“Clover, I swear, if you’re─” he stopped mid sentence as he turned his head to see Clover staring right at him, obviously caught up in admiring his dark-haired husband. Qrow softly smiled back. Together, they silently admired each other.
“You know, I do think of you and your family as the best thing to ever happen to me. Never had a big family, and I’m pretty much all I have from my side of the family now. I guess I just appreciate you and your family a lot.”
“Our family, Lucky Charm.”
“Hmm?” Clover said, surprised.
“Our family. You’re as much a part of it as anyone else here, and we all love you just the same too.” Bewildered. Clover couldn’t think of a response. He was so used to the loneliness that he hadn’t really considered he could be a part of a family again. He moved closer to hug Qrow, who readily accepted him. He buried his head into the crook of his shoulders. And Clover wasn’t going to lie. He was crying a little. However, Qrow’s scent helped comfort him, as well as Qrow stroking his hair and the knowledge that he had a family.
“I love you Qrow.” Clover’s voice came out a tad strained, though it was almost undetectable.
“I love you too Clover.” With Qrow humming a song, Clover fell into a peaceful sleep. Soon after, Qrow fell asleep to the calm rise and fall of his husband’s chest. In this sleep, Clover had a dream, though he only remembered an image from it. Tai, Summer, and Raven were in it, as well as all the kids, albeit slightly older. Qrow was standing right beside him, their hands intertwined. In between them were two children who he could not discern. Yet, he felt happy, he felt like he was where he belonged, he felt love.

Chapter Three
“Dr. Rhodes?”
A young voice, quiet and unsure, pulls his attention away from Stark’s retreating back, stopping short his intention to follow after the man.
He turns, frowning slightly at the skinny, curly-haired teen that stands behind him, fiddling nervously with the line of his IV pole.
“I’m… I’m… I’m Peter.  Peter Parker.”
Rhodey feels his lips twitch into a smile despite his unpleasant mood.  “Ah, yes, Mr. Parker. I had the pleasure of listening to you play just now.” He nods toward the room the teen has recently vacated. “Very impressive.” And it had been, the bit he’d heard.
His grin widens as the teen ducks his head at the praise, the tips of his ears flushing pink.  Adorable, Rhodey thinks, amused, and feels the uncomfortable sting of anger at the idea of Tony Stark doing anything that might put the kid in harm’s way. “What can I do for you?”
“I...uh….” Peter starts fidgeting with the IV pole again; throws a hesitant glance at Rhodey’s face.  “I heard your argument with Mr. Stark just now and…”
“I see.” His mood sours instantly; Tony Stark is the last thing he wants to talk about with this kid. He frowns, waiting for the boy to continue with whatever was on his mind.
“You need to get him to hire you back!”
The unexpected nature of the request and the heat of the conviction behind it bring him up short.
“What?”
“I… I mean….” Peter takes a step back, flustered, his gaze dropping back down to the floor.  “Mr. Stark, he’s… he’s a really good guy.  He… he takes care of everyone around him, but he doesn’t really… he doesn’t let others take care of him.” The kid looks up again, brown eyes intent. “And he needs to,” he insists heatedly.  “Especially now. His heart-”
“You’re defending him…” Rhodey can’t quite hide the incredulity coloring his voice.  “Even after what he’s done to you. Taking your place in line?” he adds at the puzzled expression on Peter’s face.
The teen’s expression darkens, his large brown eyes hardening in clear disapproval. “That was my decision,” he says mulishly.  “Mine and my aunt’s. We came to Ms. Potts when we found out from Tony that things were getting worse. We made her agree not to tell him, as a matter of patient confidentiality. He was never supposed to find out about it.”
“Is that so?” Somehow Rhodey had assumed that Peter and his aunt had been kept in the dark. The fact the kid knew about it almost made it worse. “And why is that?”
“Because he never would have allowed it if he knew.” Peter shakes his head, heaving out a dejected sigh before he plops tiredly onto the nearby bench. “I just wanted to help him. I wanted… and now, because it’s me, because he knows it’s me, he won’t…” The teen trails off, eyes momentarily squeezed shut; wraps his fingers around the IV pole in a white-knuckled grip.  When he looks up again, the desperate intensity of his stare nearly forces Rhodey to take a step back.
“I wouldn’t even have a place in line if it weren’t for Mr. Stark. He is the reason I have a chance to live, Dr. Rhodes! And I… I can’t be the reason he loses his!”
And that right there? Definitely not what Rhodey was expecting to hear.  He frowns down at the earnest, wide-eyed gaze that meets his; bites his lip at the guilt-tinged despair he sees there.
“Alright, kid.” He knows he’s already given in; doubts there’s anyone alive out there who can stay strong in the face of these imploring puppy eyes.  He just really hopes he doesn’t come to regret this later. “There’s a couple things I need to get straight, and I think you’re the one to help me.”
“What do you mean?”
“How about you tell me all about Tony Stark over a cup of hot cocoa, huh? Start with why you think you owe him your place on the organ recipient list.”
Peter watches him silently for a few moments, his expression wary. Nods, his curls flopping over his forehead. “Okay.”
***
They settle on a bench outside some ten minutes later, Peter cradling a cup of chocolate ice cream he opted for instead of hot cocoa. It’s nice and quiet out here, the air pleasant, tinged with a mild spring morning chill, and Rhodey finds himself relaxing just a bit, letting go of the angry tension he’d been carrying around since daybreak.
“Thanks Dr. Rhodes,” Peter speaks up beside him, poking hesitantly at the mound of chocolate in his cup. “Dr. Banner told me to try and beef up my calorie intake since I can’t eat much.”
“Well, I hope you enjoy it,” Rhodey responds, smiling encouragingly as the teen scoops up his first spoonful.  Urges mildly, “Whenever you’re ready, Peter.” He doesn’t want to push the boy, but time isn’t exactly a luxury he has to waste.
Peter’s expression darkens, the second spoonful dropped half-heartedly back into the cup.   “I’m… I’m not supposed to tell anyone about this. I could get in big trouble, but even worse Mr. Stark could get in big trouble. I had to sign some huge non-disclosure agreements, there were lawyers there and everything, it was crazy. If anyone ever found out I told you, then they could sue Mr. Stark and he could even go to jail.” He shoots Rhodey a slightly anxious, pleading look. “So… you… you won’t tell anyone, right Dr. Rhodes?”
“I won’t tell anyone,” Rhodey agrees, his curiosity piqued.
“No, no, I need-- you have to understand. No one can know.”
“Peter. I promise. On my word as a doctor, doctor-patient confidentiality, do no harm, Hippocratic oath. I won’t tell anyone.”
This seems finally enough to reassure Peter and he leans forward, a frown of worry on his face that speaks of a lot of fear and anxiety… more than he would expect for one so young. “Okay, well. It all happened about two years ago. The hospital was losing money, all the political stuff going on right? So they hired a consulting company to come and make it profitable again. You have to understand, there were talks of closing the doors.”
“Right,” Rhodey nods his understanding. He’s not surprised, even given the hospital’s reputation for excellent care; healthcare in general was facing a major crisis and there were systems all over the world taking the same kind of steps in order to keep their doors open.
“So the first thing they do is fire all the administrative people here,” Peter goes on, ice cream forgotten. “Let them go with severance only. I remember it a little bit because the nurses and doctors were in a huge uproar about it, it wasn’t pretty.”
“I’ll bet!”
“Well yeah. So they hire this new guy, Thaddeus Ross.”
Somehow Rhodey thinks the shudder that goes through Peter at the mention of that name has little to do with the morning chill.
“Ross… Yeah, I’ve heard of him. He did some great things for that hospital system in Orlando.”
Peter scoffs. “Wherever you heard about that, I’ll bet it didn’t mention a body count,” he counters darkly.
“No… it didn’t as a matter of fact.”
“Well, I can practically guarantee you that there was one. Because Ross doesn’t come in and fix things, he comes in and he cuts corners. First thing he did after firing the administrators was fire all the experienced nurses and techs. Forced some of the higher paid doctors into early retirement -- claimed their judgement would be called into question and their malpractice insurance would go up, that kind of thing.”
“Peter,” Rhodey cuts in, trying, rather unsuccessfully, to keep the skepticism from his voice, “even if that were true, how could you possibly know about it?”
“Because I’m one of the schmucks that almost got killed!”
“Oh…” He pulls back, stunned silent by the teen’s outburst.  Motions for him to continue.
Peter nods grudgingly, huddles in on himself.  “I was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and had, like, three surgeries when I was a baby and all that. I was doing good, real good, until a year ago I got bit by a spider. So like, not normally a big deal, but for me it was. I got super sick. But Dr. Banner… he’s my cardiologist, right? He found a treatment, and it seemed like a miracle because there was nothing anyone else could do. I mean… it was a miracle. Only the drug I was on was crazy expensive, like $20,000 a dose.”
Rhodey lets out a low whistle and Peter huffs angrily in response.
“I have to take it every three months for three years,” he says, nodding toward his IV bag. “Obviously, there was no way for us to afford it. Our insurance wouldn’t cover it because it’s technically not even approved by the FDA. So the hospital was writing it off. You know. They were using it as a charitable donation, which means it technically doesn’t cost them anything because they get the money back in tax credits and government payouts. Only...” Peter falters, a muscle in his jaw twitching.  “Only they weren’t making money off it.” He gives a vicious stab at his now mostly-melted ice cream before hurling the cup into the garbage can with a bit more energy than was strictly necessary.
“Right.” Rhodey can already see where this is heading, and he feels his own fingers itch with the urge to curl into fists. Money. Of course. Of-fucking course! Everything always comes back to money. It was one of the reasons why he’d gone into medicine, to do something about this kind of thing, to do surgery for the right reasons and not to make a buck.
“Yeah! Right!!” The teen slaps his hand palm down on the bench, agitated. “I mean, can you believe I had the audacity to exist and want to live and not have a disease that the hospital could benefit from? Ross came through and he eliminated most of those programs. The ones that helped people.”
“Why don’t people know about it?” Rhodey interjects. “Why wasn’t any of this on the news?”
“Oh it was.” The sharp bitterness in the teen’s voice surprises Rhodey. For as broken, small, and sick as the kid appeared, he had clearly developed quite the backbone.  “The headlines were ‘Local CEO Turns Failing Local Hospital into Model of Health Care Efficiency.’ He’s a jerk but he’s not an idiot! Dr. Banner did what he could but they were threatening his license. There were a couple of assault charges thrown around when Dr. Banner got really mad during a meeting and punched the guy. Satisfying, right? Except now he was suspended and I was getting sicker and sicker because no medicine. And this is the only pediatric cardiac hospital in three states that’s able to deal with my problems. We were looking at moving to Colorado but I was too sick and May, my aunt, had been out of work to take care of me so no money. I was…”
There’s a suspicious hitch in the teen’s voice, his breath coming a little harsh, a little fast. He shakes his head viciously, swipes irritably at his cheeks where thin trails of tears cut a path across anger-flushed skin.
“I was so tired,” he admits in a whisper, “I wished I could just die and get it over with!”
“Okay,” Rhodey exhales past the stunned horror of the teen’s admission, “okay.” Reaches out haltingly to put a soothing a hand on the kid’s trembling shoulder. “Do you… uh… do you need a break from this?”
“No.” It takes him a few moments, but Peter swallows down his emotions; manages to steady himself. “Sorry. It was just… it was hard. I hated it. I was sick and things were getting so much worse. It was hard to see these things taking their toll on May.”
Rhodey gives the boy’s shoulder one last squeeze before letting his hand fall away.  “I imagine she must have been pretty upset.”
“Upset doesn’t even begin to describe it,” Peter scoffs.  “She was furious. And she wasn’t taking it sitting down either. She was calling our legislators, trying to see about the legalities, but we weren’t having any luck. She tried to go after him directly, you know, suing him for medical malpractice. Failure to treat. Medical neglect.” He shrugs, exhaustion written into every line of his body.
“Like I said, it got ugly.  And here I am… dying because my heart is failing, and I get sick on top of it and it’s looking like the end for me. They start talking about hospice and making me comfortable, but I’m in the ICU in the meantime…”
“What happened?” Rhodey prods cautiously, afraid to push too hard because the kid is a walking war wound and it feels like even the slightest amount of pressure could cause him to bleed out.
Peter blinks as though coming out of a trance, his expression softening, pale lips pulling into a small smile. “Tony Stark happened,” he murmurs, sounding simultaneously awed and fond. “He got admitted the same time as me, just on the adult side, and he was being monitored because he was on some weird drug that was giving him trouble, but he was not so sick as me. He bumped into May in the hallway one time, and they got to know each other a bit. They had a lot in common, you know? Going through all this. Tony, see, he wanted to help, he offered to pay for everything. And May, she was real thankful and she wanted to take him up on it, but the thing is? Ross could just turn around and do it again to some other kid and their family. May said if it happened again it was because of them not fighting so she wanted to keep pushing on.”
Rhodey shakes his head, a bit conflicted. On the one hand there’s an already familiar flare of annoyance at Tony Stark, whose answer to everything seems to be to throw money at it.  Yet on the other - it was a hell of a thing for him to offer to do for someone he had just met.
He also can’t help but admire May Parker’s bravery and tenacity. To go up against the hospital with all of its money and its fancy lawyers all on her own? That took guts.
“One night, Ross himself comes by and says he has a court order to withdraw treatment on my case.”
Lost in thought, it takes Rhodey a moment to realize that the kid is talking again, and once the actual meaning of the words registers, he feels himself grow cold all over. “What??”
“Yeah.” Peter swallows hard several times, a bitter smile twisting his lips. “See… what he’s done is… he’s accused May of child abuse. For doing all these expensive treatments and prolonging my life. He got all these doctors to say that it wasn’t in my best interest, it was causing pain and suffering. He had all these records that showed it was harming me and wouldn’t save my life in the end and he said a third party should be asked to make medical decisions on my behalf. Basically, Ross made it so the government had medical decision-making power over my course of treatment.”
Rhodey sits back, stunned silent once again. He knows there are certain laws for that kind of thing, but they are meant to protect kids from abusive parents, who use medical diagnosis to harm their kids-- Munchausen by Proxy, that kind of thing. He can’t believe anyone would do what Peter’s describing.  It’s… it’s... unconscionable!
“Ross and May get into a big fight, and May… she’s in tears, alright? I hadn’t seen her like that since my uncle died. She starts pleading with him.  Promises to back down if Ross doesn’t withdraw treatment. Says she’ll stop the lawsuits and the push to get the laws changed - drop the whole thing just… just to keep me going.” Peter grits his teeth, his breath hitching once again.  “Ross was in my room, see,” he continues, voice tight with barely controlled emotions.  “He didn’t want anyone witnessing what he was doing, and he’s right in her face, laughing at her tears. And I’m… I’m just lying there like a rag doll, useless!”
Peter’s face screws up as if in pain, eyes squeezing shut, and Rhodey can’t help reaching for the teen once more; lays a gentle hand on his back.  Peter nods in mute thanks; breathes, slow and deep, in an attempt to calm down, in and out, in and out.
“And then Mr. Stark walks into the room, out of nowhere,” he continues, hoarse, “with like three lawyers in tow. I don’t know who called him or how he got there so fast, I don’t know any of that. He’s just there, looking like a king even in a hospital gown, you know? The lawyers, they’re talking fast, serving Ross with all kinds of notices and cease and desist orders, and there’s even…”
Peter’s voice chokes up a little, and he fists his hands around the edge of the bench, white-knuckled fingers digging in.
“There’s even a restraining order, so he has to leave us alone. He can’t say anything to May or me, not ever again. And he never… he never does. Ross never has talked to us again.  And I start getting my medicine. Because of how sick I got without the medicine, I was moved way up on the list, but then thanks to Mr. Stark, I’m okay now. I’m good to wait. It’s actually good for me to wait, to get stronger, let this medicine heal my body.”
He turns, his gaze boring into Rhodey, intent, pleading.  “But Mr. Stark, he… Dr. Rhodes, he can’t wait anymore. He passes the rope again, he, maybe, won’t be around when a chance comes back up again. That’s why… that’s why we went to Ms. Potts about giving him my spot.”
Rhodey nods grimly, digesting that information.  “What about Dr. Hammer?” he wants to know.  “He did the surgery on Mr. Stark, didn’t he? How did that--”
He trails off, taken aback by the abrupt shift in the teen’s expression.  Peter’s whole face darkens, lips twisting into an ugly, bitter grimace.
“Hammer’s a hack,” he spits out with such venom that it leaves Rhodey gaping at him in frank surprise.  “He botched that surgery.  On purpose probably, too, I’m willing to bet!”
“Come on, Peter…” Rhodey shakes his head in disbelief, because an accusation like that? It’s utterly ridiculous!
“Ross threatened Mr. Stark, did I tell you that?” the teen cuts in as though Rhodey hasn’t spoken.  “When they were arguing in my room, when Mr. Stark told him to get out? Just before he left, he pinned Mr. Stark against the wall and he told him, told him Mr. Stark would regret doing this.  And you know what the last thing he did before leaving the hospital for good?”
“He assigned Dr. Hammer to do the surgery,” Rhodey guesses, feeling a horrible numbness spread forth within his chest. “But… why?”
“Hammer’s a butcher,” Peter sneers, voice dark with resentment, “everyone knows that.  He only ever got to be a surgeon thanks to his daddy’s money and Ross’s influence.  He never should have… he never should have gone anywhere near Mr. Stark.”
“He… I heard the nurses talk after. Hammer ignored the warning on Mr. Stark’s chart; gave him a drug that should never have been combined with the medicine Mr. Stark was taking.  Nearly killed him right on the operating table. It’s what… it’s what’s killing him now!”
The teen grits his teeth; drops his gaze to where his hands are clasped impossibly tight in his lap.  “I visited him the day after his surgery.  He looked… he…  I’ve never seen him look so bad.  Like… like death.  And he was in pain.  He was trying to hide it, but I could tell.”  He looks up again, his face twisting in anguish.  “He’s dying, Dr. Rhodes. And there’s no one who can help him but you.  Miss Potts, she told me, she said you’re the best in the field.  That’s why I told her to take my spot, so you could… so you could save him. And then I hear he fired you, Dr. Rhodes, and I don’t… I don’t know what to do.”
He looks at Rhodey with such raw, open worry that Rhodey wonders if he’s ever felt worse in his entire life, as if he’d kicked a puppy or pulled the wings off a butterfly. Killed a mockingbird, all that. Guilt and shame spread through his chest with hot prickles, as well as a burgeoning fear that he’d done something irrevocably foolish. He’d just thrown away the one chance he had to save someone… someone who is, despite what he’s been initially led to believe, utterly worth saving.
At the same time, he’s not sure how much he can rely on the opinion of a child, much less one so obviously emotionally compromised. There’s a chance that Stark had manipulated him, he hates to think it but it is a fact. People do... desperate things when they are desperate.
But Peter seems so damned earnest.
“Peter. I… I didn’t know any of that,” he manages finally -- as close to “I’m sorry” as he can get.
Peter nods gravely, brown eyes boring into Rhodey’s, dark, urgent. “I know, sir. I know. But… the thing is. Now you do. So what are you going to do about it?”
***
He doesn’t mean to eavesdrop, he really doesn’t.  He went looking for Pepper after he dropped the Parker kid back in his room, and he will honestly blame his conversation with the teen - the conversation that left him so thoroughly shaken and off his game that he doesn’t become aware of his surroundings until he nearly collides with a group of interns that huddle in an oddly conspiratorial-looking clique in the middle of the hallway in front of Pepper’s office. It is only then that he snaps back to the here and now.  It is only then that he becomes aware of the raised voices coming from behind the closed office door, and of the awkward glances the interns are throwing each other as they wait for Rhodey’s reaction.
“I refuse to allow it, Tony!” Pepper’s voice rages from behind closed doors, and Rhodey can see through the haphazardly open blinds as she paces angrily in her spacious office.  “I can have you blue slipped!”
“A psychiatric hold, really?” Stark sounds peeved, his temper from earlier having escalated even further. “Don’t think I won’t sue you if you pull that crap, Potts! My lawyers are faster and smarter than your corporate lackeys. I’m not your hostage or your science experiment and you agreed, you agreed! I say when I’m done. And I’m done!”
“Well I take it back! You can’t do this! I won’t let you!”
Pepper is shouting now, her voice - a heart-rending mix of anger and despair, and Rhodey doesn’t even have to pretend not to overhear them now. Everyone in the vicinity can hear their argument, and the interns once again begin talking in low voices to each other, flicking awkward glances in the direction of the office.
Rhodey has had enough.  Calling on his most authoritative tone, he shoos the interns back to work.  Waits a few beats as he watches them disperse, chastised, and then marches determinedly toward the office, trying his best to ignore the angry rise of Stark’s voice.
His ears register an abrupt, almost choked-off cessation of Stark’s response just as his fingers curl around the door handle, followed by a clatter of office supplies being knocked off the desk and a heavy thud of a body hitting the ground. Alarmed now, he yanks open the door and freezes, just out of their line of sight, struck momentarily dumb by the scene that opens before him.
Stark sits on the floor, slumped gracelessly against the desk, his legs splayed out before him. His eyes are closed, ashen face pinched in pain, his trembling left hand tugging unsuccessfully at something inside the pocket of his pajama pants.
Pepper is kneeling before him, wide-eyed and almost as alarmingly pale as Stark himself, one hand resting on his rapidly heaving chest, the other gently pushing Stark’s hand out of the way to take out what the former has been so desperately trying to reach.
A bottle of pills.
Odd, Rhodey thinks, squinting as he tries to make out the label.  Because he doesn’t remember seeing any mention of any specific pills in Stark’s chart.  And yet...
“How many of these did you take? Tony? How many?” The undeniable urgency in Pepper’s voice cuts off his train of thought, and Rhodey notes the undisguised worry on his boss’s face.
“Three,” Stark huffs out, barely audible, eyes still stubbornly closed.
Pepper pulls back, lips pressed together into a thin white line, the bottle clasped tight within her trembling fingers.
“You know that's not safe,” she says finally, sounding like she’s pleading with Stark.  “You know they're just supposed to give you time. They’re not a cure! Tony, these damage your heart if you take them too often, you know this! You know--”
“Yeah,” he cuts her off abruptly, pain-glazed brown eyes sliding open to stare back at her with tired defiance. “Yeah, I do know Pepper. I’m the one who helped develop the damn things. Mixing Palladium and Epinephrine, not in the usual bag of tricks. So yeah. I know.”  He nods weakly to the bottle almost completely hidden within her crushing grip.  “I need one now, though.  Please.”
She watches him a heartbeat longer; sucks in a quick, shuddered breath.  “Okay,” she concedes finally, carefully jiggling one out into her hand. “Okay, Tony, you win.”
Dejectedly she hands the pill over to him; stretches to get a bottle of water from her desk, while he pops the pill into his mouth.  Reaches out to support him as he drinks, washing down the pill. It takes another few minutes before he nods to her, shifting as though to get up, and she helps pull him to standing, careful, anxious, her hands lingering on his shoulder, as if unable or unwilling to let go.
“Please, Tony, please promise me you won’t take any more of these today,” she pleads, and there’s an uncharacteristically vulnerable note in her voice, one Rhodey has never heard before. “Just… just give me some time, I’ll sort this out somehow--”
Stark smiles in response, weary and almost apologetic.  Leans in to place a soft kiss on her cheek.
“Okay. Time. Sure,” he agrees placatingly. “All I got is time, Pep, you can take all of it you need to.”
The words sound wrong somehow, coming out of his mouth, like their meaning is different, like Stark is saying goodbye. And Pepper must sense the same thing, for Rhodey sees her open her mouth in protest…
Stark shakes his head, presses a gentle finger against her lips, silencing her.  “We both knew it was a long shot, Pep. Part of the journey is the end, all that; I've been on borrowed time, I'm not about to borrow any of Peter's. We knew this doctor was a hail mary and it didn't work out. Let me leave, Pep. Okay? Just for a little bit.  I'll see you soon.”
Rhodey doesn’t stay to hear her response.  Steps back outside, letting the door close softly behind him.  Mere moments later the door creaks open again, and Stark walks out, shuffling slowly toward the elevators.  Rhodey watches him go, wondering briefly if he should go after him and stop him.  But there are things about him he still feels he needs to know, needs to understand.  So after a moment of hesitation he turns on his heel and pushes his way back into Pepper’s office before he can change his mind once more.
***
He finds Pepper seated back at her desk, face buried in her hands, shoulders trembling ever so slightly.  It’s an uncomfortable sight, to be sure, and he has half a mind to tuck tail and run, but she raises her head just then, a pair of tear-filled blue eyes pinning him firmly in place.
“Dr. Rhodes.” She straightens out, a professional mask slamming back into place.  “What can I do for you?”
And he flinches despite himself.  Because this is Pepper.  He’s known her for years, been a close colleague of hers for years.  And he has been “Jim” or “Rhodey” to her for nearly as long.  But the look in her eyes now is cold as ice - the same look he’s seen her level at those who dared cross her, and he finds it frankly terrifying to be on the receiving end of it.
Though, to be fair, he supposes he deserves it.
“I… I formed an opinion about a man based on the word of someone I don’t respect as a surgeon and barely tolerate as a human being,” he begins carefully, stepping closer to her desk, gauging her reaction.  “What I have seen until recently seemed to have confirmed that opinion for me.  And yet…”
“And yet?” Pepper prods, blue eyes narrowing in silent warning.
“I can’t help feeling that I’ve missed something,” he admits.  “A couple people pointed out to me that maybe I was wrong in my initial assessment.  That… that I should get a second opinion.”
He takes a deep breath, trying his best not to fidget under her steely glare.  Squares his jaw in quiet resolution.
“So this is me,” he finishes softly, spreading his arms out to the sides, “asking for that second opinion.”

Life as a Super powered Omega Sucks (Chapter 3)

Masterlist Here
“So we’re just hanging around until you need us?”
“Pretty much. Is that an issue?”
“No, Mr. Stark.” Peter answered immediately, before the dejected tone in his voice could be called out. He glanced over at Wade, who was grinning mockingly at him.
“ No, Mr. Stark .” Wade repeated in a whispered girlish tone, and Peter grabbed a pillow to launch at his face. It was a little harder than he intended, he could admit, especially when the impact caused Wade to go tumbling off the side of his bed.
“Great. Things were a little difficult today with Romanoff and she had a close call when she was nearly discovered. Once we verify that our blueprints of the armory are correct, we’ll commence with our plans. Until then, we have to assure that we have no chance of alerting these guys to our presence. You two have a funny way of drawing attention to yourselves.” Mr Stark paused on the other end of the line, and his voice lowered suspiciously. “You haven’t done anything to make people notice you, have you?”
“Uhhh…” Peter paused thoughtfully, scratching the side of his head. The bed shifted underneath him, Wade pathetically crawling back up onto the mattress like a wounded puppy. “I don’t think so. Besides like, the usual going out for food and stuff.”
“Terrific. So you’re already pulling your weight. Sorry, kid, I know this probably sounded faster paced and more exciting at the meeting, but things sometimes have to take their time. SHIELD has been planning the dismantlement of these terrorists longer than you’ve been Spider-Man.”
“It’s okay. Just happy to help.”
“If babysitting Diaperpool gets too annoying, call me or Steve. We’ll send someone over to muzzle him until he’s needed.”
“Wade’s been fine. Annoying, but fine.” Peter returned, snickering at Wade’s offended expression.
“I gotta go before Barton and Romanoff decide to sneak off and mess with Coulson. Stay safe.”
“Will do, Mr. Stark. Thanks.”
Mr Stark hung up with a click, leaving Peter to stare at his burner with disappointment. He’d hoped things would maybe have progressed further, especially considering he was usually consistently busy in his daily life, and at the present moment, he was so insanely bored he almost wished he had a term paper due tomorrow. It wasn’t like they could go sight-seeing, either; the others had made it painfully clear that they were to stay put in the small city until someone came to collect them.
He still had more pressing matters hanging over his head as well, and every hour he spent on suppressants he felt like he was going insane.
Peter had taken his fourth dose of suppressants a few hours back, and he could already feel his body begging to be let off of them. His skin was hypersensitive, and even the brush of a blanket was enough to make him throw the entire comforter onto the floor. Wade had been his only distraction- his presence somehow endearing despite the fact his scent was overwhelming at times- but even witty banter wasn’t enough to keep his focus entirely off of the symptoms plaguing his system. He quietly turned his head towards the window, peering past sheer curtains to stare at the sky dripping with thick, grey clouds. The dreary town seemed just a bit heavier, especially with the trickling of rain pattering against the paths and pulling up dirt into the air.
He just wanted to feel needed. Was that too much to ask?
“Sooo, we’re sitting ducks?” Wade asked from behind Peter, and he felt Wade inching closer towards him. He shot a look back at the man, who retreated to instead stand a foot or so away. “Wanna go out?”
“We’ve looked through the entire place twice. I don’t think we’re gonna find any new food places just because we walk around again.” Peter groaned.
“No, no, no, I don’t mean here. We’re, what, 45 minutes out of Moscow? You’d love it there, Pete! I know you said some other time, but I can tell you’re going crazy here, and I’m supposed to be the only unstable one.”
Peter sat without a word, waiting in amusement for him to say he was joking. The look of determination on Wade’s face made him realize he was dead serious. “Moscow? Just so we can mess everything up if someone recognizes you?”
“Not the nice parts with cameras and mafias, obviously. The shitty parts is where you have all the fun. And anyone who recognizes me there probably paid me to kill their rich cousin at some point. We could find a party, or an orgy if that’s more your style. Oooo, you’ve never been to a party, have you? It’d be so fun!” Wade didn’t respect Peter’s wish for space this time, bounding directly onto the bed to sit inside his personal bubble. “Russian parties are the coolest, because there’s no rules and everyone here is fucking depressing. So they go hard to have a little bit of fun before drowning their sadness in vodka.”
“I’m not going to a party. Or another city. I’m not leaving the hotel room. Mr. Stark would kill me.” Peter said in irritation, rolling off the bed to stand near the window. The breeze coming through reminded him of his pathetic blanket and uncomfortable bed he’d have to huddle for warmth again that night, as he grimaced. “This is my one chance to prove I can do things right.”
“And you still will! Just after having a wild night.”
Peter stared at him wordlessly.
“Okay, a slightly crazy night that you don’t wake up too hungover from.”
“Wade.”
“Fine, fine, Pete, be a drag. But I’m getting on the next party train to Moscow with or without you. And I really hope it’s with you, because I need my arm candy to get into these things. Looking like a burn victim only gets me so far, honey buns.” Wade jumped off Peter’s bed, crossing towards the door. When he reached it, he threw a look back over his shoulder with the saddest puppy-dog look he could muster. “You can still go on this infiltration mission later. You’re travelling. I know you don’t usually have the money to do that. Why not enjoy it for one night? You deserve a reward for being a hero every once in a while.”
Peter sucked in a breath, but didn’t comment. He didn’t deserve anything. He had the power to help people, so he was obligated to do whatever he could.
But as Wade left, Peter could feel the comfort he’d had in his presence ebbing out of his body as well, being replaced by the tense achiness he’d been feeling for the past 2 days. Being left alone sounded like the last thing he wanted right now- even though it was usually how he preferred to spend days he didn’t feel so hot- and he wasn’t so sure Wade would even make it back to their motel in one piece if left alone to make bad decisions.
If Mr Stark were here, he would tell Peter not to listen to Wade and to stay put as he was instructed to do. But Mr Stark wasn’t here, and Wade’s reasoning for why he should go was weighing heavily on his mind. He didn’t get to travel often and so far he was spending this vacation couped up in a small town waiting to be useful for an hour. Who cares how he spent the other 96, so long as he didn’t jeopardize the mission?
He was pulling his shoes on quicker than he could make a decision, and had his door locked and a dose of suppressants in his back pocket a moment later. Wade lit up when he stepped out into the hall to find Peter already waiting for him.
“Glad to see you still know how to have fun.” The merc beamed, extending an escorting arm to Peter he refused to take. “I promise I’ll make rebelling worth it.”
“No Moscow.” Peter said, his voice stiff. “But there was that cool looking bar up the road- the one with the skylight? - and we still have enough cash to get both of us at least mildly drunk, right?”
“I like the way you think, Spidey.” Wade chuckled, leading them down the grimy hallway towards the exit of the hotel. “I’ll drag you to Moscow or Paris some other time. And if we run out of money for drinks, I’ve got a few Xanys in my back pocket. Either way, I can’t wait to see what you’re like when you’re fucked up, baby boy.”
--
Wade spent the entire walk there detailing his past crazy adventures and near-death experiences when visiting Russia. Peter nearly regretted agreeing to follow him, particularly when he started to delve into the R-rated details, but he had to admit the distraction was nice. Even the worry that Mr. Stark would find out where they’d gone was preferable to sitting alone in his room, trying to ignore the cramps deep in his abdomen.
The bar exterior was a bit busier than it had been the night before, but this spot seemed to be the only social gathering place in the entire town, so it wasn’t a surprise to find a mixture of people of all ages laughing and drinking with one another. Music played faintly from inside- some Russian pop music, Peter guessed- and the lights inside were dim, making it conveniently easier for Peter and Wade to keep up some anonymity.
Wade pushed through the doorway with a grip on Peter’s wrist to drag him, the back of Wades body melting into a dark blob as they entered the space. As they approached the actual bar, Wade drew Peter up next to him, giving him a toothy grin. “What do you normally order?”
“At..bars?” Peter asked, hushing his voice. “I’m 20. I’ve never been inside of one.”
Wade chuckled in a way that made Peter’s face immediately light up in embarrassment, leaning cooly against the counter. “You’re a superhero, friends with a billionaire scientist that has access to all his cool gadgets and gizmos and shit, and spend your nights probably stopping bar hits, and you don’t have a fake ID?”
“No? I mean my friend and I have drank like wine coolers and stuff before from her parents’ fridge.”
“You’re lucky the drinking age here is 18, you’re cute enough that no one can say no to that face, and I can speak the language.”
Wade turned to speak to the bartender as Peter’s stomach twisted, and he waited impatiently beside him to get their drinks so he could get some space back between him and Wade’s overpowering scent.
It took a minute of negotiation for Wade to finally get the man to fork over 2 double-shots and 2 mixed drinks, and Wade passed him a bill that looked way too big for the amount of alcohol they were handed. Peter grabbed his offered glasses and they picked their way through the crowd to an open loveseat furthest from the speakers to protect Peter’s sensitive hearing, and give them their privacy from the rest of the bar goers.
“Bottoms up, Petey pie!” Wade saluted with his shot, making Peter mimic the motion.
As they both chugged their shot, Peter couldn’t help but think that was definitely how he wanted to be right now with the hormones raging through his system, effectively making him choke on the last ounce of alcohol.
“Whoaaa, you really are inexperienced, huh?” Wade laughed, patting Peter on the back as he sputtered for air. “You gotta hang out with me more if you can’t even handle a vodka shot.”
“I-I’m fine.” Peter gagged, finally managing to get oxygen back to his lungs as his throat stopped spasming in alarm. He settled back into the cushions of the loveseat as far from Wade as he could get without making it obvious he was avoiding him, but the merc made no comment on the increased distance.
“You can wash it down with your martini.”
“I at least know what that is, and it’s definitely not gonna help.”
“Worth a try.”
Peter rolled his eyes and reached for it anyways, to give him something to do with his hands. The feeling of the alcohol sitting warm in his stomach at least helped to mask some of his other symptoms, which he was grateful for.
“So, I know they gave you the choice to stay in an actual house and not in some sleazy town more infested with bugs than Stark’s pubic hair.” Wade mused as he took shockingly large drinks of his own martini. “Why’d you pick here?”
“They don’t know my face or name or...anything else about me. At least, everyone but Mr Stark.” Peter stared into the glass, briefly considering telling Wade the predicament he was in. Wade was kind, and he was the one who was least likely to judge him for being an omega, or try to get him to drop the mission. But he was also a blabbermouth, and Peter wasn’t sure he wouldn’t sell his secret out for street cred with the rest of the team. “Plus, I don’t think I’d ever have the guts to do this if I was stuck in a house with Natasha. She’d have me running laps for hours or Clint would make me clean his bows or something.”
“While they got it on in the other room?”
“Ew.” Peter reeled automatically, then really considered it and looked incredulously at Wade. “You don’t think they’re…?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Wade laughed.
“I didn’t think about it.” Peter paused, then repeated, “Ew.”
---
An hour later, Wade had spent way too much of their money shoveling shots down Peter’s throat, and the both of them had successfully gotten pretty tipsy.
The later it got, the louder the other patrons grew, which meant Peter and Wade could giggle stupidly over cheesy jokes while remaining inconspicuous among the public eye. Peter could feel a slight tingle on the surface of his skin, which meant he’d have to head back to the hotel soon, but he was admittedly having too much fun to be overly-cautious. He hadn’t let go and relaxed like this in over a year, and sitting so close to Wade just felt good in ways he couldn’t really explain.
And of course, as soon as the universe had handed him one good moment, it was ready to give him two bad ones.
The chorus of Take on Me started to play from Peter’s pocket, his burner ringtone, and he reached clumsy fingers to dig for the device.
“A-ha! Gotta say, I love your choices.” Wade drawled, strewn out over the loveseat.
Peter managed to fumble the cheap flip-phone open, and the initials TS made his heart stop in his chest. “M-Mr. Stark.”
Panic punched into Peter’s gut, and his stomach gave an unbidden lurch. He gaped at the screen, feeling as if the phone call was his martini playing with his eyes. Yet, after a few gasps of air to steady his nerves, he determined it really was Mr Stark calling him.
“You gonna answer?” Wade was gazing down at the name over his shoulder, closer than Peter remembered, which only served to make him jump.
“I have to, I think.” Peter swallowed, hopping off the couch as his mind whirled. The heat symptoms were a bit worse now, amplified by the sudden panic. “Um, I’ll be back.”
He staggered to the entrance of the bar, past a few concerned onlookers that whispered incoherently- likely about the stress evident in his expression. Peter stepped out onto the lightly populated street, gulping down frozen air, before he finally clicked the green ‘answer’ button and pulled the phone to his ear.
“H-Hi, Mr. Stark.” Peter smiled stupidly into the air, trying to remember what he sounded like sober. “Um, what’s up?”
“Checking in. I feel like I was too short with you earlier. I know it can’t be easy to sit around in a gross hotel and being kept in the dark due to SHIELD clearance.”
“I’m okay!” Peter insisted in a forceful manner, biting his lip to keep from letting his mouth wander into a tangent as he often did when nervous. “I mean, I’m having a good time.” He stopped. “I mean, it’s not that bad.”
“Right.” Mr Stark responded with apprehension. “I just wanted to be sure. Surprisingly. I do have a shred of a conscience and know you weren’t entirely thrilled about this mission in the first place.”
“Yeah, yeah but I’m like totally glad to help.”
“And it’s appreciated. ”
Peter didn’t have a good response, so he fell silent for God-knows-how-long, unable to actually tell due to the alcohol in his system.
“ Are you drunk right now?”
The accusation made the vodka that had settled in his stomach turn ice-cold.
Peter wracked his brain for an answer, though it was clear Mr. Stark had already made up his mind.
He disappeared from the line for a moment, cursing with a hostile tone under his breath, before returning with an aggressive hmph of breath. “ You’ve got to be shitting me. What the hell were you thinking?”
“I-I, I was just-”
“ You weren’t thinking is the simple answer. You never do. You know this isn’t just about you, or the Avengers, or proving to SHIELD I wasn’t completely insane for thinking a 20 year old was competent enough to work with us. This is about proving to me you weren't the child you were when I met you. But it looks like I was wrong. ”
Peter felt a stab of pain in his gut, and tears sprung to his eyes. Oh god, he couldn’t start crying now, standing outside of a bar and looking pathetically out of place. Mr Stark’s words hurt, and they made him feel sick to his stomach. The last thing he had ever wanted to do was break his trust or disappoint him.
“ I’m sorry, Mr Stark.”
“Sorry’s aren’t good enough. You’re too smart for this, Peter. I’m disappointed.”
Peter felt another sharp strike in his abdomen, and he faltered. It was different. This wasn’t just guilt wringing his insides. Below the top layer of his skin, he could feel a slight fever beginning. Shit.
“ I’m coming to get you.”
“ No!” Peter blurted out, berating himself silently a moment later. “I-I mean I’m...I’m not at the hotel right now. Wade and I went out to a bar in town and he’s in the bathroom right now. Plus I-I still gotta pack.”
Mr Stark made an upset noise. “ Fine. I’m driving over when the sun comes up in the morning, then. Don’t do anything else to fuck up any worse, got it? ”
“Yes, sir.” Peter swallowed, curling his fingers tighter around the phone. The cramps were hitting hard. His entire stomach felt like it was being flooded with fire. “I’m really sorry.”
“ Drink water and try to eat something before you go to bed. The last thing we need is to explain a hangover to Coulson in the morning .” Mr Stark paused with a sigh, clearly distressed. “ I know you’re young. I know you wanna do things kids your age should be doing. But you can’t be both a kid and an Avenger. You have to pick one or the other. I’ll call you when I’m almost there.”
The phone call ended as Peter’s breath hitched, and he leaned back against the wall of the bar, clutching his stomach. His eyes burned and his body was giving clear warning signs of impending heat symptoms. They had to get back, before Peter threw up vodka and everything he’d eaten for 2 days in Shcherbinka, or worse- broke down into tears.
He just had to find-
“Ooooooh shit. Did I get you in trouble?”
Peter started as he stood straight, Wade watching him from the entrance of the bar.
Peter ran fingertips fast under his eyes but it seemed to be too late, the merc striding towards him with concern strewn across his features.
“Petey, hey, what’s up?” Wade asked in a softer voice, maintaining his distance but holding out a comforting hand. “Was he that mad? Fuck, baby boy, I’m so sorry. I didn’t think he’d find out.”
“Let’s head back.” Peter muttered, brushing his hand out of the way so he could head down the sidewalk. He could feel Wade walking behind him, but was grateful that he gave him his space.
------
Peter nearly jumped out of his skin when there was a pounding at the door.
In reality, it was likely just a normal-volumed knock, but the pressure in his head was growing exponentially, and coupled with his distraction, he hadn’t heard anyone approaching. His grasp tightened around the syringe in his fingers, feeling the glass splintering slightly, but he finally released it onto the top of his TV stand and pulled himself to his feet. For reasons beyond his control he felt annoyed at being interrupted. Even if the person on the other side of the door didn’t know the suffering he was subjecting himself to at the moment, his shoulders were tense and he was ready to give them an earful about invading his space. It was close to midnight. Who felt the need to show up and bother him now? All he wanted was to crawl into bed and wind the covers tight around himself, so tight he would be unable to breathe- just to feel surrounded by warmth and darkness. Not answer the door to some late night housemaid or the receptionist trying to remind him he was checking out tomorrow.
He yanked the door open until it nearly slammed against the wall, ready to snap, when Wade’s face came into view. He stopped, swallowing back all the surprise rooted in his stomach, and managed a meek “what?”
“I forgot to give you back your wallet.” Wade said as he held out the pleather tri-fold, staring strangely at Peter. He knew he probably looked wild-eyed and angry, but he was barely keeping himself in control at this point. Everything felt uncomfortable in his body, as if his muscles couldn’t find a point in which they didn’t feel strained. “Petey? You look like shit. Is Iron Man being an Iron Bitch still bothering you?”
“No, it’s nothing.” Peter muttered and reached for his wallet. He tensed when Wade’s gloves wrapped around his lithe wrist, squeezing lightly. The pressure was enough to set his skin on fire, and he couldn’t bring himself to move away from the contact.
Alpha…
“Hey, hey, you’re shaking.” Wade’s voice was clearly concerned now, and Peter cursed his inability to drop things. He made another move for his wallet, but the other drew it further back. “Are you sick? Peter?”
“I’m fine.” Peter grunted, his eyes blearily focusing on the texture of Wade’s sleeve. This close to Wade his scent was intoxicating, stronger than it ever had been, and the smell of burnt pine and expired rain wafted up through his head. It made him dizzy, and electricity sparked over his arms and down into his stomach. His scent alone was enough to make him quiver.
Suddenly, his pants felt too tight, and the realization of what Wade’s presence was doing to him had his dreary vision snapping back into focus. But it was too late, because the taller man was already steering him back into the room towards the bed.
“Do you need anything? I can run to the store, or call Daddy Stark or something. I don’t want you dropping dead on me, baby boy.” Wade’s mouth was so close behind his head, Peter imagined he could feel his hot breath on his ear and neck. Every step they took towards the bed was another cramp knotting in his stomach, and he wanted to scream from the pressure. Suppressants were supposed to eliminate the symptoms of heat, not just stop it in its wake. But he’d also never been on them for 2 days before, so he wasn’t sure when their effectiveness started to falter. “Here, lay down. I’ll get you all snug and then I’ll grab anything you want.”
Alpha… smells good.
Peter’s body moved on its own, making the painful crawl into his covers, before he collapsed in the middle of the bed onto his back, dropping his head back in the pillows. The world spun a bit before his eyes finally settled on Wade, who was sitting on the edge of the mattress staring at him. He gazed down at his arms, his pulsing muscles begging to be released from the tight hoodie material, and trailed back up to his broad shoulders and neck. Everything about Wade screamed dominance and strength, and his omega side was begging him to reach out to be held. Still, Wade didn’t seem to be paying attention to him, his eyes cast lower down on the bed. Peter followed his gaze, trailing over the blankets and down to his hips, where the blankets had stopped.
His erection was standing tall in his jeans, making every effort to escape the confines of the uncomfortable fabric and seek out Wade’s attention. And Wade was staring directly at it.
His expression was unreadable,  but Peter assumed he was completely freaked out as to why his friend had a clear hard-on after being touched by him, and he grabbed a pillow to shove down on his waist.
“Oh my god.” Peter whispered in mortification, his voice gravelly. He squeezed his eyes shut as the heat in his stomach rose to mirror on his cheeks, rolling onto his side just so Wade would stop gawking at him. “I-I’m so sorry, I’m just tired and you showed up and I can’t help it-...”
“Me?” Wade finally asked, his voice a pitch lower and focused. Peter felt the bed shift, and then a hand lightly settled onto his shoulder, as if he would break him if he put any weight on him. “Pumpkin, hey, it’s okay, look at me.”
Peter shook his head, refusing to face the humiliation as he buried his face further into the pillows. He wanted to scream and cry at the same time, and curse his biology for being so fucking inconvenient it was ruining everything about this weekend. Why couldn’t he just be a beta? Why an omega? Why did the world hate him so much?
Wade applied a bit more pressure onto his shoulder and forced him to return to laying on his back, his other hand moving to lightly rest on Peter’s abdomen. “You don’t have to be embarrassed.” He murmured, his gloved fingertips rubbing light circles right on the spot there was the most tension in his stomach. “Can I help?”
“What?” Now Peter finally looked back up at him, red eyes widening drastically. The question sent another wave of warmth crashing through his pelvis, and he knew the swelling wasn’t about to go down any time soon.
Wade’s hand inched lower, grazing the waistband of his jeans, though his fingers didn’t dip inside, clearly waiting for full, and clear, permission. “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I left you here alone like this.” He murmured, his voice sounding tighter. Peter swallowed back his jumpiness and looked down at the hand dancing over his hips, willing his body not to buck up needily for the attention it craved. “I won’t do anything you don’t want to do. But if you want me to make you cum, I will. Just say the word.”
I need it.
“Wade, I…” Peter didn’t know what to say. He didn’t have the strength to tell him no, to save himself from the humiliation of letting his friend get him off, but he also didn’t know if he wanted to tell him no. Maybe it was his heat still getting shoved back in his body, or the nights he’d spent jerking off to thoughts of Wade (only on occasion; he had said some pretty suggestive things in the past) but denying him felt like the wrong option.
“If you don’t want to see me you can keep your eyes shut and pretend it’s someone else. I won’t mind. This doesn’t have to mean anything.”
Peter knew that wasn’t true, that taking this step would result in a lot more confusion and tension filtering into their relationship, but the thought of Wade’s warm mouth swallowing him down his throat sent a shiver up his spine.
If there was anything he knew about Wade, it was that he had a lot of experience in that department.
Peter nodded numbly, draping one arm over his eyes so he didn’t have to face reality.
“I need to hear you say it, angel. I don’t want to cross any boundaries unless you’re sure you want this.” Wade added as his fingers tugged and undid his button, the zipper audibly being drug down.
“I want it.” Peter croaked, instantly feeling his temperature spike. “Please don’t make me say anything else.”
Peter couldn’t see Wade, but he could practically feel his smirk of satisfaction. As promised, Wade moved on the bed so that his weight was bridged over Peter’s legs and pulled his pants and boxers down without asking any more of him.
The cold air rushing over his dick almost made Peter moan in relief, but he bit his lip to keep the sounds at bay. In the darkness he could hear every movement Wade was making, from the rub of denim against itself to the creeks of the cheap bed springs underneath them. Wade’s mouth was absent, and the only real reminder he had that he was there was a hand pressing steady into his thigh, gripping bruisingly against the skin, while his other hand fondled with part of his own clothing. He almost wanted to ask if this was alright, reassure Wade he didn’t have to do this, but then, God , Wade’s face returned close to his pelvis with a hot breath brushing over the tip of his cock.
Peter almost came right then.
“Just try to relax,” Wade spoke lowly, each word sending a puff of breath over his sensitive flesh that had him twitching. “You smell delicious.”
He didn’t have a chance to ask what he meant before an overwhelming warmth enveloped the head and continued down. Each inch Wade took into his mouth sent more and more stars flashing in Peter’s eyes, and his entire body went tense. Whatever self control he had before melted away, as his mouth hung open in utter awe at the sensations. He’d gotten head before, though he was in his heat, so he didn’t quite remember it. Now, however, when his nerves were extra sensitive from his symptoms falling off but he was otherwise mentally alert, he was choking on the pure bliss. Eventually he felt Wade’s nose press snug into his pubes, and he realized, with an embarrassed gulp, that his dick was pressed in the back of Wade’s throat.
Then the mercenary swallowed, and Peter’s voice shot out in utter ecstasy.
“G-God, Wade, p-please…” Peter didn’t know what he was begging for, possibly relief from the mind-boggling fever he felt twisting his gut, but Wade seemed to comply. His mouth retreated until his cock once again bobbed free, and Wade tongued precum dribbling from the slit. Peter picked his head up in reaction only to drop it back against the pillows, a groan echoing from his chest. Wade hadn’t been exaggerating when he said his scars were everywhere. His dick once again penetrating his mouth and brushing along the inside of his cheeks proved that. The texture had him crooning instantly.
Wade apparently decided that toying with Peter was more important than actually pleasing him, if his slow, firm pace was any indication. Everything about Wade normally was erratic and unruly, dangerously unpredictable, and yet now he demonstrated perfect control, unwilling to let the twitches or whines leaving Peter’s throat to deter him from his perfectly measured beats. His lips tightened and a slight suction drew more pressure to the surface of Peter’s groin.
There was a low grunt from Wade’s mouth, almost like garbled words attempting to be formed around the length, and Peter drew his arm away enough just to glance down at him. The scandalous sight that met him as his vision readjusted to the light had his heart leaping up into his throat, a throb echoing through his limbs and making his stomach churn. “What?” He panted, on the edge of going absolutely insane from his taunting.
Wade repeated his hum, the vibrations enough to make Peter jolt, but he maintained eye contact, growing a bit annoyed as all he wanted was to focus on chasing his orgasm. “I can’t hear you.”
Wade’s lips drew back, his tongue being the last to peel away from his cock, as he swallowed back the mixture of fluids that must have been gathering on his tongue. He looked rather flustered himself- from what Peter could see of his exposed nose and chin from under his mask. “I asked if you just showered.” He grinned, teeth flashing bright as ever into a crooked, but breathtaking, smile. “Whatever soap you use is really working for you. You smell just..” His nose pressed into the crook of his thigh, causing Peter to tremble from the tickling sensation. “Like dessert.”
Peter didn’t want to ask him to elaborate, knowing that whatever scent he thought he smelled was pheromones playing tricks on his brain, so he flopped back against the pillows instead. “That’s all you had to say?” He asked impatiently, toes burying into the cheap polyester sheets under him.
Wade’s laughter had Peter self consciously curling back into himself, but then his hands were tugging his thighs back open until he was in a vulnerable position, similar to earlier. “You’re wanting more?” He asked in a low, but teasing voice. Despite all his pride, Peter nodded weakly, throwing both arms back over his face to cover as much of it as he could without suffocating. “Okay, I’m sorry. I’ll stop playing. I’d rather hear you screaming my name, anyways.”
This time, when Wade took him back into his wet mouth, he didn’t give Peter any mercy or room to breathe.
Fingers dug hard into Peter’s hips, anchoring them down to the squeaking mattress, causing a frustrated huff to leave his lips. However, his complaints fell short when that wonderful pleasure blanketed his shaft again, warming his body from his toes to his chest. Wade’s throat opened to allow nearly every bob to force more of his dick to cram down into the tightness, not an inch left unattended to. Any rational thought floating in Peter’s head was obliterated, replaced by the image of red fire, of a tingling spreading through his fingertips and his feet, and the twisting of his stomach.
And by Wade, abusing his cock and forcing so much sensation onto Peter he thought he might cry.
It didn’t take long for Peter’s orgasm to build. He had already been on edge for days, and he didn’t doubt even a brush on his shoulder or a grab of his hip could have made him break down by now. But this was oh so much better than any feeling he could have jerked out with his hand. This was ecstasy, and he wasn’t just going to get off. He was going to cum, and he was going to cum hard.
Peter’s arms found Wade’s head on instinct, his fingers gripping tightly at his temples. Wade noticed, his tongue putting in twice the effort and one hand raising to squeeze lightly on Peter’s aching balls. He mouthed Wade’s name, though no sound was able to escape his lungs, his voice strangled in his tight airway. His muscles clenched, his hands held harder onto his skull, and a second later his back slammed again into the mattress before bullets of hot cum shot down Wade’s throat. Peter squeezed his eyes shut so hard he could only see crimson, the other man’s mouth greedily sucking down his semen without so much a sound of disgust or displeasure.
Wade didn’t release his overly sensitive dick from his mouth until he was sure his quivers had stopped, and he took his sweet time doing so. When he finally released him, his grip disappearing from Peter’s hips, he realized how empty he felt, and his hands twitched with the need to reach out to Wade, to ask to be held by the alpha, but he suppressed every indecent desire and instead settled for opening his eyes.
Wade was redressed fully by the time he looked, and disappointment shot through Peter’s chest.
“Hopefully you feel better now, Spidey.” Wade hummed in clear amusement, adjusting his sleeves so they went back down to the joint of his wrists. “I’ll let you get back to sleep. If you need anything else, well, you know where I am. Feel free to crawl right in.”
Peter watched in silence, unable to fathom a proper reply or reaction now that his heat was finally withdrawing. Every step felt like a heavy weight on his chest, and he felt the need to say something, anything, even if it was to confess everything that he had been suffering through. He rationalized that was just the needy omega side of his brain, though, and some things were better left unsaid.
Peter tossed himself onto his side, his back facing towards the door, to try to get proper rest. The door squealed open behind him as Wade started to exit, and he swore he heard Wade pause in the doorway to take a breath.
But then the door shut lightly a second later and Peter was bathed in darkness. Alone, exhausted, and his mind struggling to make sense of everything that had just happened.

shadowplay ch 4
You finally go grocery shopping after work on friday, grabbing plenty of bread and fruit and mostly yogurt that doubles as both breakfast and a snack and some beans while your at it. Nothing like homemade beans.
This part of adulthood was awful, not just working but actually having to come home and do things. You better understood why your mum and dad got annoyed when they got home and you still hadn't done the dishes.
You think of texting Alex this but think better of it. You weren't quite friends. So you send a text to Sam instead.
Her succinct reply is grow up babes.
You'd last seen her an hour ago during work and she'd gone to get drinks with Matt and Vy but you'd been an adult and gone to get groceries.
And then you get home and eat toast with jam and one of the apples you got. Hardly an actual meal.
Your phone buzzes. Alex <3 flashing on the lock screen. want 2 gt drinks. Which is so unAlex you immediately call him.
"Who are you and what have you done to Alex," you joke and hope he picks up on it. Maybe he was right about calling being better after all. Not that you'd ever tell him that. He'd be unbearably smug.
"Love," he answers with a laugh, "just Zack here thinking he was being funneh. But the offer still stands if your up for it? I know works been busy." It was nice of him to give me an easy out. But staying in on a Friday night was terribly depressing.
"Where?"
You take the tube over to a more fashionable area of east london, over in Hackney. The bars themed like a seventies magazine interpretation of a living room, playing early Bowie.
Alex greets you with a kiss on your mouth, soft and lingering just enough that you feel off kilter, unable to hide the stiffness in your shoulders. Here where everyone can see.
And then your taking a seat and shaking Zack's hand. Alex ordering you a cranberry vodka. The same drink you'd been buying since you realized beer was gross. "Working on some stuff here in London," he shrugs.
"Still quite offended you didn't ask to stay at mine," Alex pouts, clearly on his way to drunk, hand resting on your tigh. You can't not be hyperaware of his touch, electric against your skin.
"I did think of you," Zack protests, "but Allison, my old roommate asked first and I said yes. Besides man you like dropped off the face of the earth. Holed up."
"I like to decompress," he states, sipping at his beer. "And this one here has me flying back."
You snort, "well you offer," you lie because you refuse to be a fake bitch. If this is all fake, then your going to be the fake version of yourself you teenage self would've been proud of. "And I'm not going to say no Al!"
Alex smiles boyishly charming, and really does anyone buy his cool guy act when he's so obviously a sweetheart. You can imagine him going out of his way to help an old lady carry her bags upstairs.
"Ahh," Zack laughs, "and he said he didn't want to bhover you," he finishes in a terrible cockney accent. Americans. "This is exactly why Miles and Matt didn't invite you on our little getaway we have coming up."
Suddenly alert, Alex goes, "what! What trip!"
Zack giggles. "Just a little boys trip. Breanna was going to go but she said it'd be too much testosterone for her to stomach alone."
"And I wasn't invited?"
"Guess you were too busy," Zack says smugly. Before turning to you, "Forgive me for texting you under false pretenses but it's Alex. Gotta get things out of him somehow."
"Really," you wonder out loud, "I've never had any trouble with that. He just rambles a bunch."
"Oi," Alex protests, looking faux betrayed at you, like a puppy when you refuse to give them more treats, "you going with them?"]
Zack nods. "I'm guessing you know about the bands?"
"I do," you reply, finishing your drink and feeling the drunk giddyness bubble up in you, Alex's hand on your tigh warm as he rubs circles into your skin. It had been brilliant of you to change into a mini skirt that had survived many a trips to the club. "Which one are you in?"
"The last shadow puppets though it's really Alex's and Miles' baby." You make a note to listen to some songs.
You turn to Alex, catching him staring at you with the dreaminess of the blissfully drunk, face flushed, "Have a favorite child?"
He shakes his head, "that's comparing apples to oranges darling."
"Least you could do," you tease him, exciting laughter out of him.
"You guys should both come though," Zack offers, "bet Breanna would come then and that would make Helders happy as fuck!"
"When's the trip," you ask, curious though by then this will be over. Maybe you and Alex can be amicable fake exes. You'd never managed to stay friends with any past lovers. But that was because a) you lived in different places and drifted apart and b) they were assholes though that was only really your last boyfriend.
"In two months. We've rented a cabin in Northern California. There's a lake. It looks sick."
You look at Alex and hope he's not too drunk to say something plausible, smiling in amusement as he taps in tune with the beat to the music playing. You would recognize Donna Summer anywhere.
"I don't know mate," Alex shrugs, looking over at you, his eyes meeting yours, trying to gauge your response, "probably can't get work off with this late of a notice?"
That wasn't true at all. And you had so many saved up vacation days apart from the mandatory ones. But it was nice that Alex had already found an excuse. "I'll have to see," you add, making sure to look adoringly at Alex, not a hard thing to do, it was much harder to keep a straight face, to keep from laughing when you felt so light and bubbly after a few drinks, his leg bumping into yours as he taps the beat playing, like you were heartbroken over the idea of not being able to go with him and his friends.
"Just let me or the boys know," Zack tells you both. "Breanna would probably love too come if she wasn't the only girl." Then orders a round and you all proceed to get comfortably drunk.
Zack telling you all about his touring misadventures and a memorable skinny dipping adventure where the band had forgotten where they'd hidden their clothes. Alex chiming in about his and Matt's adventure to procure weed "or something with a bit more of a kick," in the early days and spending one hundred dollars on bunk acid.
"Fooking wankers," he mutters.
"In college someone got some prerolled joints and a bunch of us were all psyched to go smoke it after school," you tell the boys, blushing at the memory of your dumb antics, "all nerdy kids who did not know how to roll a joint and we forgot to get a lighter."
"No fooking way love," Alex laughs in delight. "I would've rolled you the best joint."
You wrinkle your nose, "I prefer edibles if I'm being honest. Or shrooms. Did you see how microdosing blew up all of a sudden?"
Zack slaps the table, "and among moms of all people!"
"Mums be getting lit!"
You offer to go order the next round, two more beers and a cranberry vodka. Asking politely if there wasn't a strokes song that would fit into the theme.
The man behind the bar hands you the drinks and waves you off with, "drag queen works."
The song starts as you get back to the table, placing the drinks down.
"The strokes," Alex drunkenly proclaims, "what kind of witchcraft 'ave you done love?" He pulls you close against him before kissing you madly, tasting of beer and tobacco against your mouth, not a hit of pretending about it, as you stiffen in his arms in surprise before melting against his touch not even a second layer.
To your surprise, instead of feeling relief when he pulls away, singing along with Zack who also knows the words, it's a sharp yearning, the sudden prick of a needle in your finger. It's stupid. You're being stupid.
Alex would've never given you a second glance if it hadn't been for Arielle. And why would he when he went around dating girls like Arielle, models who were sweet on top of being insanely beautiful.
And now you just want to go home.
Instead you laugh it off, "I just asked nicely Al. Works wonders."
Zack snorts, "their new stuff is so underrated."
"It is," Alex cries out.
"Oh my god you are drunk!"
"And happy! I'm so happy you came love! I wasn't sure you would."
"Only for you Alex." Which is true in more ways than one. You doubt you would have agreed to all this with just anyone. No. Alex was special. Enough charisma to charm the whole world.
He leans into kiss you again, with the same hunger as before and reluctantly you pull away, still unsure about that thrum of want running through your veins and what to do about it. Now was not the time to figure that out. "Time to go home," you suggest and hope Zack goes his own way. As funny as he's been, you need a cold shower and to remind Al he's not actually dating you.
Alex nods eagerly, sliding cash on the table and waving a hastily goodbye to Zack.
He flags a cab down for you both and gives the driver your address, his arms still wrapped around your shoulders, holding you close to him. It's too much. He's just drunk. And you don't want to do anything stupid with him. Not with the lie. You'd much rather be good friends at the end of all this.
"Al," you protest, slipping out of his hold as he goes in to press another kiss to your lips, "no."
He looks like a kicked puppy, wide eyes and pouty lips, but doesn't make another move, gaze focused on you with an embarrassing amount of earnestness.
"You can't-," you start, "you can't have things both ways. And we agreed. There's lines."
With obvious reluctance he nods, "sorry love," he slurs, slumping in his seat, looking out the window of the cab.
"It's okay," you tell him, because who hasn't been drunk and made bad decisions, settling down next to him again. The heat of his body doing wonders to take the edge off.
It's just Alex.
You both come up into your flat.
"You sure it's alright," Alex slurs, wavering in the doorway looking as unsure as you feel, "I'll be fine at home."
"I'll sleep a lot better knowing your fine," you tell him, "come on rockstar," and drag him in. He's drunk. And you care about him too much to just let him go off on his own.
You both collapse into your bed, fourteen minutes past three in the morning. "I haven't been out so late in ages," you tell him. "My ex, Tom, he always said it was because I'm not fun." It had made you feel like shit but having just gotten your job, you had worked hectic hours and as the newbie you hadn't been in a position to ask for whatever schedule suited you best. And after a long day at work, going out was not something you wanted when you were home.
"You're loads of fun love," Alex whispers back, taking your hand in his, rubbing circles into the back of your hand with his thumb, "I always have a hell of a time when I'm with you. That's what matters. Not snorting a few rails of coke though that can be fun too."
"I've only ever done shrooms and that was in Amsterdam. In the tulip fields."
"Rockstar love. I've got you beat."
You roll your eyes, "what happened to not wanting to sound like a bloody twat?"
Alex laughs, sending heat down your spine. It makes you glad for the obscurity the dark lends, making you a mere outline when you feel like a burning star.
It doesn't take long for you to fall asleep once you lapse into comfortable silence.
Alex is gone by the time you wake up. A glass of water on your bedside table thoughtfully left by him.

The whole weekend you spent all your free time with Bucky, you spent most of your time lounging about and relaxing by watching movies cuddled up together, reading books on his balcony cuddled up, and cooking together. The two of you barely left each others sides and when you did it wasn't for long. "I'm going to have to leave a bit earlier today." You started and Bucky pouted his lips making himself look like a sad puppy. "I'm sorry I'd love to stay but I actually need to do some work Steve set me and I promised Peter I'll come round to plan a family vacation." You explained and Bucky's expression didn't change.
"I don't want you to leave." He said pecking your forehead.
"I don't want to leave especially because the next time I'll see you will be at school." You said pouting and Bucky sighed.
"How am I meant to teach a class with you right there and how am I meant to act professional." He said and you gave him a sad smile.
"That's something we'll need to figure out if we want us to work without loosing our job slash education." You said and Bucky nodded you could see he was thinking.
"What are you doing tomorrow after school?" He asked.
"Probably whatever work you set me." You replied.
"Do you want to come over? I'll make dinner, you can study here I'll try not to be a distraction." He said winking at the last part.
"I don't know..." You began knowing that you wouldn't do any studying around him.
"Come on, who can help you with your work more than me?" Bucky asked.
"Steve." You said in a sassy tone to annoy Bucky. His mouth fell open to resemble a massive O and he just sat there shaking his head. You sat up so you weren't leaning on him pushed his jaw back up so his mouth was closed and kissed him.
"You know what maybe date Steve instead." Bucky said playfully and you rolled your eyes.
"Okay I'll see you on Monday then I'm going over to Steve's." You said standing up and Bucky stood up and hugged you from behind kissing your neck all the way up to your ear before whispering. "You're not going anywhere." And spinning you round to kiss you properly.
"Mmm, Bucky I'd love to stay but I genuinely have to leave." You said breaking the kiss apart.
"I'll miss you." He said.
"I'll miss you too see you tomorrow." You said giving him a hug and kissing him before you left. You went straight to visit Peter and May and spend some time with them, you learnt that Tony was down in Washington for business for a week, Peter told you all about school and he also questioned you about the man in your Snapchats and what house you've been at all weekend, you told him nothing avoiding his questions. When you got home you got even more questions from your roommates but you simply replied. "I'm too tired it's a long story." And went to your room to finish the work Steve set you.
Monday felt like it was taking forever, for all of Bucky's lesson you were just waiting for it to end, it seemed like Bucky was doing the same because he even ended the lesson early. You didn't speak to him after the lesson but received a text from him saying "7 at mine for food + study? Sound good?" And you replied with a simple. "Yes."
Bucky didn't lie when he said he won't distract you. You came over set up on his kitchen island while he was in the kitchen cooking that let the two of you talk but also focus individually. "So basically I'm meant to analyse how Fitzgerald uses the light as a character?" You said referring to the book Bucky set to analyse.
"Yeah so write about how it's used as a metaphor for Gatsby's love, how it disappears when Gatsby is with Daisy and stuff like that." Bucky explained without even turning around.
"Oh right okay thanks." You said before continuing to write but then your phone began to ring. You looked at the caller ID and it was a number you didn't recognise. "Hello?" You answered and Bucky turned around giving you a puzzled look as if asking who was calling and you shrugged. "This is New York General Hospital I'm calling because you're listed as Mr Parker's emergency contact."  The lady over the phone said and your face dropped.
"Is he okay?" You said your voice shaking Bucky turned off the cooker and walked around the counter wrapping his arms around you while the caller explained to you what happened to Peter, Bucky didn't know what's going on but he could hear the fear in your voice and pain in your face so he did his best to comfort you.  "Okay thank you I'll be there as soon as possible." You said ending the call.
"What's wrong?" Bucky asked you as your tried not to cry.
"Peter he was in an accident something happened at school he was in a trip he tried to help his friends and he got them out but he got injured and now he's in hospital, I'm sorry Bucky I need to go." You said standing up and gathering your things.
"Leave your stuff, just take your jacket come on I'll get you there quickly." Bucky said going to grab his keys.
"You have a car? Why is this the first time I hear of this?" You said distracted.
"Better." He said holding up a bike helmet. "Catch." He said throwing it to you.
"You know if I wasn't stressed I'd be so impressed right now, I love bikes." You said following him out the apartment.  You ride to the hospital in Bucky's bike and got there quite quickly definitely faster than if you took the subway, Bucky looked amazing in his leather jacket driving the most amazing bike.  When you got to the hospital you went inside and Bucky said he'd follow you in after he locks the bike up. You walked up to the desk, your heart beating out of your chest the nerves building. "How may I help you?" The receptionist asked.
"Um, my brother, I'm his emergency contact, I-" You began to explain before a phone rang.
"Please hold." The woman said and you just stood there not knowing what to do as she picked up the phone. "Sorry okay your brother yes?" She asked and just when you were about to speak someone pushed in front of you.
"My son needs to see a doctor right now." The woman who pushed in front of you said. "I'm sorry I'm currently serving this lady. The receptionist said pointing to your. "But you don't understand me son-" the other woman argued. "He has to wait-" "he can't wait-"
"Enough!" A loud voice broke through. Bucky was standing there behind the woman who was trying to cut in and went to wrap his arms around you after he broke up the argument. "Ma'am with all due respect your son isn't in critical condition while my girlfriend's brother is. Plus she was in line before you so may you let her talk to the receptionist. Thank you." Bucky said he sounded angry but also he wasn't raising his voice, he was also at the same time comforting you. "May I see you ID miss, and may I get the name of the patient you're looking for." The receptionist said.
"Yes of course it's Peter Parker." You said and the receptionist looked at your ID.
"You have a different surname to Mr Parker." The receptionist stated.
"Yes we have different fathers." You said panicking slightly that they won't let you see him.
"Well you are listed as one of his emergency contacts so there's no problems he's in room E13 it's on the second floor you can take the elevator at the end of that hall." She said pointing you in the right direction. You and Bucky basically ran to the elevator. In the elevator Bucky put his arms around you to comfort you he could sense how scared you are, honestly you were terrified of the state Peter is in you were terrified how bad his injuries were. "He's okay." Bucky whispered into you ear.
"I hope so." You replied as the elevator doors opened and Bucky let go off you taking your hand in his as you walked through the corridor to find Peter's room.
"Do you want me to go in with you or wait outside?" Bucky asked carefully not knowing where you are at in the relationship are you anywhere near ready to tell Peter about him?
"I need all the support I can get." You replied and Bucky squeezed your hand re-assuringly as you knocked on the door. "Come in." You heard Peter say and you sighed from relief at the sound of his voice, you opened the door to reveal Peter lying on the bed with a bandage around his head some plasters on his face and and  IV drip connected while he ate a chocolate pudding cup. "Peter you son of a bitch." You said walking in your reaction shocked both Peter and Bucky.
"No how are you? No are you okay? Really feeling the love sis." Peter said rolling his eyes.
"I was scared you were in a coma or something but your just sitting here eating pudding." You said laughing at your prior panic.
"I mean it's the better of the two." Peter said shrugging.
"Most definitely." You said hugging him. "Hey." You said as you pulled away. "Peter this is Bucky, my-" you began.
"Boy toy." Peter interupted.
"Hey!" You said annoyed while at the same time Bucky laughed and replied. "I prefer knight in shining armour but boy toy will do." He replied and Peter laughed.
"I like him, can we keep him." Peter replied and you laughed going over to Bucky and looking up at him.
"Hm I don't know Peter." You said before scruffing his hair and giving him a peck on the cheek. "He is cute and I have a soft spot for him I guess we can keep him." You said and Bucky smilled a great big adorable smile.
"Does this mean I get the approval of the protective little brother?" Bucky questioned taking a seat next to Peter's bed as did you.
"Hm yeah but you hurt her well I may not look it but I can kick your ass." Peter said protectively.
"Meaning he'll ask dad to do it." You said and Peter rolled his eyes making Bucky laugh once again. "Speaking of is he still out of town?"
"Yep."
"Is May coming to see you?"
"Yeah they called her like they called you, but apparently you were faster."
"We took the bike tis why." Bucky added.
"You have a motor bike!" Peters face lit up like he won a thousand bucks, the money not a thousand Bucky's although he seemed pretty happyto have one in his life. The three of you carried on casually talking, it was nice seeing Bucky and Peter interact they seemed to get along well and actually like each other which warmed your heart. "Peter Parker! Never scare me like that ever again." A voice came from the doorway, the three of you turned to look in that direction and saw May standing there looking flustered like she ran to the hospital, which she probably did.
"Hey why is everyone angry at me?" Peter said defensively.
"because we love you. Anyway, hi May, May this is Bucky, Bucky, May." You said introducing them.
"Lovely to finally meet you ma'am." Bucky said acting all grown up reminding you of him at work.
"likewise but I must ask who you are Y/N didn't mention a-" May began but Peter cut in with "Boy toy." Making Bucky laugh while you and May scolded him by saying "Peter!" In unison. May seemed to like Bucky, the four of you talked for a while, May had to leave for a bit to call Tony meanwhile Bucky and Peter made a bet about some stupid program that was on TV, Bucky lost to his disappointment and owed Peter a bag of gummy bears. "Okay I think we're gonna go soon." You said looking at the time.
"Okay, I'm just gonna have to go down to the vending machine real quick." Bucky replied.
"Wait? You're taking that seriously?" You said in disbelief.
"A bets a bet." Bucky shrugged.
"Yeah Y/N a bets a bet." Peter said in a cocky voice making everyone in the room laugh. "Oh Bucky?" Peter added as Bucky was about to leave.
"You're coming on the trip right?" Peter questioned.
"The trip?"
"The trip to Malaysia, Y/N and I have to bring plus ones and I thought..." Peter said instantly regretting starting this conversation when he saw the panic on your face.
"I forgot to ask you I'm sorry, I completely forgot. You don't have to come it's a stupid family thing." You said trying to discourage him.
"If your there I want to be there, we can talk more about this later, right now I've got some gummy bears to get." Bucky said kissing your forehead and leaving the room.
"Peter listen here no mention of Bucky to Tony, understand? Don't say the name around Tony." You said in all seriousness as May walked back into the room.
"Everything okay I saw Bucky leaving?" May asked.
"Yeah he's getting gummy bears for Peter, I was just telling Peter, don't say anything about Bucky to Tony. Please. Don't even mention his name." You said pleading.
"Okay, I understand he can be protective but he's not going to kill him." May said.
"I know, I, it's complicated, just I don't want him knowing I have a boyfriend."
"I promise I won't say anything." Peter said gently.
"Me too, but Tony is going to be here in a few minutes." May explained.
"What I thought he was out of town?" You panicked.
"He flew back because of Peter." May explained.
"Okay I need to find Bucky, if you ever need to mention Bucky call him Grant, because that's like his real name Bucky is a ncik name, so if you do mention Bucky to Tony call him Grant." You said trying to somehow save this situation. "I'm gonna go find Bucky and hide him- I mean Grant." You said before leaving the room. It didn't take long to find Bucky. "Bucky. Tony is here you need to hide."
"Wait why's Tony here?"
"I'll explain later now you need to hide or we're both dead."
"But Peter's gummy bears." Bucky said looking like a lost puppy.
"Are you kidding me? You're gonna lose your job over a stupid bet and gummy bears." You said and Bucky just looked at the pack of gummy bears.  "Give me those and follow me." You said taking the gummy bears off of him and pulling him into a room. "Okay put this on." You said giving him a lab coat and a doctors mask that you found in the room.
"How do I look?" Bucky said giving you a spin.
"Hot. But too much like you." You said thinking. "It's your hair." You said, then you proceeded to mess it up and restyle it to make it look very un-Bucky like. "Better." You said.
"I look like an idiot." He said looking in a mirror.
"But you don't look like professors Bucky Barnes."
"Mmm say that again." He said with a sly look.
"We don't have time for this Buck, you need to walk out this building without running into Tony, I'll go give Peter his stupid gummy bears and meet you outside." You explained and Bucky nodded. You walked towards Peter's hospital room, getting there in time to see Tony already sitting there talking to Peter. "Hi." You said walking in. "Peter, here's the gummy bears I owe you." You said throwing the gummy bears at Peter and hearing him say "ouch." In response. "Hey Tony, nice to see you back, I'd stay and talk but I really need to go."
"Are you sure she isn't actually my daughter?" Tony questioned picking up on how that sentence sounded very Tony Stark™️. Everyone laughed at Tony's comment and you quickly said your goodbyes before leaving to find Bucky who was sitting in his bike back in his normal outfit.
"Where's the doctors costume?" You questioned getting on the bike.
"Ditched it in a plant pot." Bucky said casually before speeding off.

Not Rock ‘N Roll Good
A/N: A modern Sandor/Arya fic so I can dabble in their characterizations. I think it’s obvious but just in case: lots of language ahead!

Sandor's phone chimed with a message, and he frowned. Anytime someone texted him, he was suspicious. He pulled it out and checked.
Unknown Number: Dude where the fuck are you?
Unknown Number: And you don't get to be mad at me for cursing at you because you're THIRTY MINUTES LATE
He didn't have plans with anyone, and certainly not with someone whose number wasn't in his phone, so he ignored it. It was a wrong number, they'd figure it out soon enough. Sandor turned back to the computer and looked over the schedule. Bronn was going on vacation-- or so he claimed, frankly Sandor thought he was a fucking liar-- and with Ygritte reducing her hours so she could make her internship, they were stretched thin.
Unknown Number: Are you going to show up?
Great, this person was being stood up, and Sandor was going to have to be the one to break the news.
Unknown Number: Ramsey?
He sighed, typing out a reply. To Unknown Number: Think the arse gave you the wrong number mate.
Unknown Number: Of fucking course he did
Unknown Number: What a gods cursed cunt
Unknown Number: I should have known better than to make a date with someone I met at a club
Unknown Number: Sorry dude but I'm pissed. I had to cancel with my study group for this dick
To Unknown Number: It's fine. Vent all you want maybe it'll distract me from this boring shit.
Unknown Number: WELL IN THAT CASE
Unknown Number: Jk
A little bubble showed up to signal they were typing again, and Sandor gave up pretending to look at the schedule. He already knew what was going to end up happening: he'd ask Gendry, Gendry would look at his schedule and have to say no, and Sandor would cover it himself.
Unknown Number: I know you don't know me, but it's not like I welcome random arse people to hit on me. He had to go out of his way and spend TIME convincing me to agree to this, and then he doesn't even show up.
Unknown Number: And I only agreed because it seemed like he'd hop into bed with me.
Unknown Number: I just wanted to get laid.
To Unknown Number: Have you tried sex toys? They're better than most people think.
Unknown Number: Oooo personal experience talking?
To Unknown Number: Yes. People are disappointing.
Unknown Number: Well, you're not wrong.
To Unknown Number: When was the last time you were actually satisfied with someone else in bed?
Unknown Number: Not sure it's EVER happened. Mostly I get pity fucks.
To Unknown Number: Sounds shitty. Sorry man.
Unknown Number: Woman actually. Not that I care, but I thought it was weird that you might think I'm a guy.
To Unknown Number: Well I'd offer to have sex with you but I'm busy
Unknown Number: Lol
Unknown Number: I'm willing to wait for you to be free ;)
To Unknown Number: Might be waiting a while.
Unknown Number: No offense, but does it look like I'm in a big hurry? I've got a shit ton of time to spend waiting.
Unknown Number: But I can't wait rn cause my hero in a car has come to pick me up. Talk to you later future-babe.
Sandor shook his head, mouth curving up into a smile as he set his phone to the side. Chances were that they wouldn't talk again, but it picked up his mood enough that when he got home, he made himself food instead of eating canned stew cold because he was too lazy to put it in a bowl and then the microwave.
*
Sandor carried his phone with him while he worked in case there was an emergency or someone needed to call in sick-- he really fucking hoped that no one did that today because it was busier than most Monday's. Everyone that wasn't an employee had notifications muted while he was working at the gym, so it wasn't until he was taking a lunch break that he saw the _ unread texts he'd accumulated since getting up this morning.
Unknown Number: I'm beginning to think that someone put a sign on my back that says 'please bug me straight boys'
Unknown Number: Seriously this is getting ridiculous ffs
Unknown Number: Aha! Mystery solved, my sister Sansa has been at work here. Well, her and her girlfriend Margaery.
Unknown Number: My name's Arya btw. It seemed weird that you knew my sister and her girlfriend's name but not mine.
Unknown Number: All these mediocre bastards are reminding me of our future plans together, and all I have to say is that I'm glad we have this (joking) agreement. Cause not once in our ten minutes of conversation did you objectify me. A high bar, I know.
Unknown Number: You should tell me your name when you see these so that when I ride my dildo tonight I can think of you ;)
Unknown Number: Gods I hope that wasn't inappropriate.
Unknown Number: Sorry if it was, I was just trying to make a joke.
Unknown Number: You know, the more I think about it, the more it seems to have been in poor taste.
Sandor added her as a contact under 'Arya, the horny one' so that he'd remember.
From Sandor: Name's Sandor. If you haven't changed your nightly plans, that is He paused, then added a winky face before he sent it, just to be sure she'd know he was joking.
From Arya, the horny one: Oh thank the gods. I have like two friends, I didn't want to lose you
From Sandor: Am I friend #2 or would I be added as #3?
From Arya, the horny one: Don't be so nosy.
From Arya, the horny one: I'm sure you'll figure it out someday.
Sandor snorted and put his phone back in his pocket.
*
Incoming Call From Arya. Sandor checked the screen, then frowned. They'd never called each other before, and it was late. What was she doing calling him at this hour? "What."
"Saaaaandor you answered! See Sansa I told you he would, suck my dick."
Inexplicably, he was amused. "Are you drunk?"
"Only a little. If I drink too much I can't walk straight and I bump into all kinds of shit. Nearly got ran over once."
"You did get run over!" a different woman's voice said, coming through the phone's speaker.
"You got run over?" Sandor asked, even more amused than before. Drunk people annoyed the hell out of him and he didn't have the patience for it, but right now was different. Maybe that was because he was finally hearing her voice, and while she was definitely a woman, it wasn't high-pitched enough that it felt like his ears were bleeding.
"It was a tap," she argued. "I didn't even need stitches. I've given myself worse trying to do fucking needlepoint."
"You do needlepoint?" He found that hard to believe.
"Fuck no, that's why I was able to convince my mother to let me stop. It wasn't worth the cost of bandaids."
"Sounds safe."
"You've got a sexy voice. Did I tell you that? I feel like I forgot to tell you that. I was busy proving a point to Sansa and got distracted."
Sandor snorted. "If you think my voice sounds sexy, you really do need to get laid."
"Is that an offer?"
"Fuck no. You could do better."
"Pretty sure we got talking because I haven't been able to do better. And what do you mean 'fuck no'? I'm a bloody catch, you twat!"
"How would I know? I haven't seen you."
"Well there's an easy solution to that. You free this Sunday? And I ask only to make sure you didn't make plans with your friends, I know you have the day off work."
"My friends are all working," he said drily. "I never have plans."
"Great, then you won't mind meeting up for coffee. Say, ten in the morning?"
"You want to meet me?"
"I don't know what- shut it Margaery I can walk and talk at the same time, bugger off. Pretty sure I've made it clear I want to fuck you, coffee is nothing."
"I ain't pretty, Arya. I don't know what kind of Prince Charming you've been imagining."
She snorted. "Yeah that's not gonna be a problem. I'm attracted to your voice and your personality, trust me, that'll be enough."
"I'm a miserable old shit." That much, he was sure of.
"All the more reason to get both of us laid. Happiness is one good round of sex away, do you really want to turn it down? Sunday, ten o'clock, the Godswood. I'll be the one with brown hair, a cane, and silly yellow sunglasses. If you're gonna be more than five minutes late, text me or I'm leaving. See you- seven hells Sansa! I was almost done mind your own fucking business. Bye Sandor see you then!" she called out hurriedly, like the phone was being taken from her.
"Er- bye." He hung up, then stared at his phone, bewildered. Guess he had a date. He didn't want to see what Arya's face would look like if her expression was just going to twist in disgust from his scar. He wasn't telling anyone about this. Bronn couldn't keep his fucking mouth shut, and Gendry would be all hopeful and give him that stupid puppy look and tell him that maybe he would fall in love and be happy. What a cunt.
*
He thought about dressing up.
He decided that was stupid.
He ended up in jeans and a worn, long sleeve shirt with his hair pulled back-- no point in trying to hide the burn scar. What was he doing? This was stupid. He wasn't so far removed from reality to believe that she'd run screaming, but it was going to change things. Arya didn't believe him when he said he was an ugly fucker, but now he was going to get to see her reaction up close and personal. Fuck everything. He still grabbed his keys and left the flat, heading towards the coffee shop she'd told him she would be at.
Fuck it all, he didn't even like coffee. Maybe they'd have something without that bitter shit in it.
Sandor grumbled to himself the entire trip there, but he showed up and that was rather telling. The shop wasn't packed, but it was comfortably full. They'd be able to have a conversation without the employees overhearing every word they said. It would also make it harder for him to find her, but what the hell. With a face like his, no one would be surprised that he was here for a blind date, and they sure as hell wouldn't be surprised if he got stood up. Not that he thought Arya would do that.
Brown hair, yellow sunglasses. She'd also mentioned a cane, but chances were he wouldn't be able to see it walking around like this. He passed three different hipster couples, and five single hipsters. Fucking hells he felt like he was going to lose his mind. Brown hair, yellow sunglasses. Brown hair, yellow- aha. Shit she hadn't been kidding when she described her sunglasses as 'silly'. They were large and garish and in the shape of stars. She had her dark hair pulled back in a half-bun, and the cane she mentioned was resting between herself and the wall. There was no drink in front of her, and her elbow was propped up on the table, resting her chin in her hand as she stared into space. She was pretty. Too damn pretty for the likes of him, but he couldn't turn around now.
"Arya?"
She turned her head. It didn't seem like she was looking at him, more like she was looking a foot from where his chest was. "Sandor?"
He cleared his throat uncomfortably. "Yeah that's me."
"Great," she said, grinning. "Have you gotten a drink yet? I hope not, because I'm buying." She reached for the cane and stood, and that was around the time Sandor realized it was a familiar white style. She reached out her hand, and he moved automatically, standing next to her and guiding her hand to the crook of his elbow. They started to walk. "So, did you need a drink or are you just enjoying me hanging off your arm?"
"Both."
She snorted out a laugh.
"Few steps to the line," he warned as they slowed down.
"Know what you're getting?"
"No."
"You don't drink coffee, do you?"
"Not... usually," he hedged, and she laughed, but not cruelly-- which had been Berric's reaction when he learned that Sandor didn't drink coffee.
"Yeah most of it tastes like shit. I get the turtle macchiato because it's so sweet I can't taste anything else. Do you like sweet drinks?"
He made a face and said nothing. Then he remembered that she couldn't see him and said, "Not really." He liked sugary sweet, but dessert sweet tasted like liquid cavity and he hated it.
"And you don't like coffee." She hummed, thinking it over. "I think they have tea if you'd prefer that."
He grunted and scanned the menu. They had lemonade, he'd probably try that. The line moved forward, and he urged her to take a few steps, which she easily did.
"I'm not what you expected, am I?" she asked, a bitter note in her voice.
"No. You're a hell of a lot prettier."
She sighed. "You are sending mixed signals, Sandor."
"I am?" he repeated, confused. He'd thought it was pretty clear that he was happy to be here.
She gave a tense shrug. "You're not talking much."
"I'm talking more'n I usually do."
"If you don't want this to be a date, you can say so. We'll just be two friends meeting up, there's no harm in that."
"I don't talk much," he said. When that didn't comfort her, he added, "I wouldn't worry about it."
"If you say so," she said, which was noncommittal, but her mood picked up again.
A minute later, he told her, "It's our turn."
"Hey Arya," the man behind the register said.
"Hey Sam."
"Getting your usual?" Sam asked.
"I have a usual?"
"Large hot turtle macchiato, right?"
She groaned. "I've become predictable. This is like a nightmare."
"I wouldn't say totally predictable. Who's this with you, hm?" he asked, glancing at Sandor. His eyes darted to the scar, but he didn't look overly bothered by it. That was a nice change.
Arya snorted even as she leaned into Sandor's side. "Like you wouldn't tell Jon everything I say."
"I might not."
"Man," Sandor said, "I hardly know you and even I can tell that's a lie."
He gave a sheepish smile. "Well, he is my best friend. Anything for you today, Arya's mysterious friend?"
"Lemonade."
"What size?"
"Make it a large," Arya supplied so that he didn't have to worry about it.
Sam nodded, writing the order on a cup and setting it to the side. "Anything else?"
"Not for me." She angled her head towards Sandor. "Did you want a pastry or something."
"I'm good." Pause. "Thanks."
"Okay." She reached into her pocket and pulled out her wallet. It was a simple billfold, and Sandor noticed there was braille on the front of the card. Then he averted his eyes because what the fuck was he doing looking at her bloody credit card? She handed it over, and Sam swiped it, delivering it back to her waiting hand. When the receipt printed, he pulled it off and threw it away like he'd done it a hundred times before.
"Alright, you know where the hand-off bar is, Edd'll be the one down there today."
"Thanks Sam."
A few people stared at the pair of them, but for the most part no one cared. Sandor had dealt with far worse, so he ignored them without a second thought. Arya had probably dealt with worse too, even if she couldn't see the people currently staring.
*
Somehow one date turned into two, turned into eight. Sandor actually left the gym for lunch now, meeting Arya at the nearby deli every few days so they could eat together. The joking about sleeping together seemed less like joking and more like a legitimate question when Arya said it now.
Sandor shrugged uncomfortably, and Arya could feel it because she was holding onto his arm at the moment as they walked down the street. "We haven't known each other long."
"Oh please," she said, and Sandor got the sense that she was rolling her eyes. It was hard to tell through the dark lens of her sunglasses, but her tone made it rather clear that that's what she was doing. "We've been texting for four months, and seeing each other in person for another month. I think that's plenty of time. You weren't half as shy over text."
"It wasn't a possibility back then," he grumbled, and Arya sighed.
"If you don't want to, we don't have to. If you don't find me physically attractive- well, first of all fuck you, but that's fine too. I don't mind waiting as long as I know that's what I'm doing. But if we're not fucking because you think I'm not interested or some shit, you need to let it go."
"Of bloody course I know you're interested. You've made it pretty damn clear."
"So what is it? Are you not interested?"
"Course I am."
"Then what's the hold up?"
Sandor grumbled an answer under his breath, knowing full well that she couldn't understand him.
"What?"
He sighed and said it again, clear enough for her to hear this time. "It's been a while."
"Aww are you nervous?" she cooed. When he didn't joke back, she dropped the teasing expression and tone. "Wait, seriously? Sandor, there's nothing to be nervous about. I have complete faith in your ability to fuck me blind." She paused. "Get it? Blind?"
Begrudgingly, Sandor found himself chuckling.
"Listen, I remember telling you that my sex life has been pretty lackluster. Even if it's not good, I've definitely had worse. And besides, those were one-off's. If the first time sucks, so what? The second time'll be better. All of this to say that I don't think you'll be bad, but whatever, I doubt you'd listen to me if that's all I said."
"Yeah."
They slowed down for a crosswalk, conversation pausing in the presence of other people that would clearly be able to hear them. The light changed, and they started across, waiting a little longer to continue the conversation so they could get some distance.
"How do we plan that? I work all the fucking time and you have a roommate."
"You say that like we don't have time, right now, on our way to your flat."
"Right now?"
"Why not?" she asked, having to step away for a moment to avoid a shop's sign.
"It's the middle of the day."
Arya snorted, retaking her place by his side. "And you care? If you think you're going to be shit and shoot off early, then there's no reason why we should carve out three hours of an evening to do it."
He glanced down at her and found himself wanting. That wasn't anything new. She was not only bloody attractive, but willing. "Fine."
"Is that a yes?"
"Yes."
She grinned, holding herself just that much higher as they walked.
It took several more minutes before they reached Sandor's flat, and he cleared his throat before uncomfortably offering, "Did you want to come in?"
She squeezed his arm in comfort. "I'd fucking love to."
They walked to the staircase, and he gave it a look, counting the steps hurriedly. "Ten steps, then a landing a meter long, then seven steps."
"Thanks."
Normally Sandor took the steps two at a time, but with Arya on his arm he took them the usual one at a time, feeling like he was moving at a snail's pace. Soon enough though, they were at his doorstep and he was unlocking the door. Despite all his arguing and this being the first time Arya had been to his place, he'd cleaned it up a long time ago and kept it that way. He didn't leave shoes and random bits of rubbish out anymore, making sure they weren't in the way for her to trip over. "Entryway's a few feet wide. You can leave your shoes on the right."
Arya tentatively poked her cane in that direction, the tip of it going over his shoes then the empty space of floor. She kept her cane in place as she slipped her shoes off and nudged them into place, using her toes and cane to make sure they were out of the way. "Show me around." She kept the cane in her hand, Sandor on one side and her cane in the other to watch that side.
He walked the perimeter of the living room and kitchen, making sure to detour inside so she knew where the tables were.
"And your room?"
He cleared his throat and they started walking again, down the short hallway and into his bedroom. There was no art anywhere in his flat, and for once he didn't have to hear someone bitching about the blank walls. His blanket was a faded black, something random hookup's always gave him a disappointed look for. Fuck them, it was comfortable and in good condition; he wasn't going to replace it just because the colour was a little off. He walked her forward until the edge of the bed was touching their legs. "This is the bed."
She unlaced her hand from his arm and held it in front of her, slowly lowering it down until she made contact with the top of the bed. With the cane, she reached to her left until she found the edge of the bed, then went to the right until she found the other side. She started around one side, hand trailing over the duvet as she walked to the head of the bed.
"There's a nightstand a couple paces in front of you."
She slowed, edging forward until she could bump it with her knee. Arya took her cane off the bed and set it on the opposite side of the nightstand, then climbed onto the mattress. She laid down, wriggling to get comfy on the pillows.
Her legs were spread and Sandor had to swallow past his dry throat. She held out a hand, saying his name, and he went like there was a rope around his waist, pulling him forward automatically. He kissed her like it was all he wanted to do, and she wrapped her legs around him to keep him there.
*
"You're glowing," Gendry teased at work the next day.
"Fuck off," Sandor grumbled. There was no denying that he was in a good mood, but glowing? That was a load of tripe.
"So when do we get to meet her?"
"As soon as she wants to meet you." Sandor looked directly at him as he delivered the next statement. "Which is never going to happen."
"Aw come on, mate. Anyone that's willing to date you has a thick enough skin to meet your friends."
"We're not friends; you're my employee."
"We're the closest things to friends that you have. You're grumpy as all seven hells, and you spend all your time here, making sure everything's working smoothly. Where are you going to find quote unquote 'real friends'?"
"I managed to find a girlfriend."
"Yeah and I'm still not convinced that wasn't an accident. Who is this magical girlfriend of yours anyways?"
Sandor rolled his eyes. "She's not magical. Stop whinging and get back to work."
"Yeah, yeah. You'd think getting laid would make you nicer."
But of course Arya chose that afternoon to spontaneously visit him at work. Which is to say that she didn't text or call, but Sandor was walking from the class rooms towards the rock wall to make sure everything was running smoothly, and he heard her talking to Gendry.
"What are you doing here?" Gendry asked her. Sandor couldn't see them yet, but sound bounced easily through the tile floor and clean walls.
"Gendry? What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Uh, I work here, and I know you hate exercise."
"You work at a gym?" she repeated doubtfully. "You're a twig, not a body builder."
"I'm not as small as I was the last time you saw me."
"Mhm," she said, clearly not convinced.
"Come on Arya, that was back in high school! You've grown a lot since then too. And you still haven't told me what you're doing here. Not hoping to catch up with me, I take it?"
She snorted. "No, but maybe we should schedule that in some time. I'm here to see my boyfriend. Who's definitely not a twig."
Sandor finally rounded the corner and saw Arya and Gendry. Arya, looking the way she always did: stunning. And Gendry had his flirting face on which made Sandor want to pick him up by the scruff of his neck as if to say 'seriously?'. Gendry had people hitting on him every week, but he was going to pick an old high school friend out of everyone in the world. "Arya?"
She turned towards him with a smile. "Sandor!"
"Sandor?" Gendry repeated, looking between the two of them. It was clear when he got it, because he straightened and took a step back. "I can't believe you're his secret girlfriend."
"I'm not secret you prat," Arya said, "I'm just private." She shooed him with her hand, still angled in Sandor's direction. "Now go away."
Gendry rolled his eyes. "Yes milady."
"I may not be able to see but I can still kick your arse."
He beat a hasty exit.
"You and Gendry?" Sandor repeated, raising an eyebrow as he walked towards her.
"It was a long time ago."
"I can't believe he convinced you to date him."
"Eh," Arya said with a shrug. "We were best friends and I needed someone to bring to my mother's parties." She flashed him a smile, and he could tell that she was mostly joking. The message was clear though: she had cared for him, but it wasn't like that anymore and it wouldn't become that way again. He reached her side and tapped her free hand with his own in offering. She took it, sliding her fingers up his arm to curve around his elbow and not caring that he was damp with sweat. "Speaking of parties, my brother's birthday is coming up and every year my gift to him is a surprise. Showing up with a big, grizzly boyfriend is sure to surprise everyone."
"And they won't think I'm manipulating you or some shit?"
"I can be very persuasive."
"Really?"
"I can also be very accurate when hitting people with my staff," she said, which confirmed Sandor's suspicion that she had very little in the way of regular persuasion techniques. "A little reminder and they'll leave us alone. For a while, at least."
"Is your family always going to be so fucking nosy?" The thought was annoying, but his example of a family was a father that drank and gambled too much and a brother that abused him.
"Yeah probably. They just worry that I'm going to get hurt. Eventually, they'll figure out that you're the second best thing to happen to me and they'll chill out."
"Second best? What's the first?"
"Electric guitar. You're good Sandor, but you're no rock 'n roll."

The List  - Chapter Two
Tumblr media
- 1 -
Summary: It’s summer vacation and TJ and Cyrus fill their days checking things off Cyrus’ list.
Read on AO3
Chapter Two: Park Day
Word Count: 1651
Mid morning the following day, Cyrus makes his way over to the park to meet TJ like they had agreed upon. Cyrus arrives first and sits on a bench whilst he waits. As the warm sun is beaming down, Cyrus begins to overthink things. What if I attempt a handstand and break my arm and then I’m unfit to try anything else on my list and the best summer ever is over before it had much of a chance to begin?
“You look like you’re panicking.” TJ purposely sneaks up on Cyrus and it causes him to jump. TJ slides in next to him on the park bench with an amused chuckle.
“I’m always panicking,” Cyrus frowns, “and even more so now that you’ve scared me.” Cyrus adds with a playful shove to TJ’s arm.
TJ pretends like it hurt and the two laugh it off. “Sorry I’m late, I was packing supplies.” TJ pulls his backpack onto his lap and pats it gently.
“Supplies?” Cyrus knits his brows together.
“Well for starters I made a hard copy of the list,” TJ wears an excited smile as he unzips his backpack.
“I love hard copies of things.” Cyrus gleams.
“That way it’s rewarding to physically cross something off the list.” TJ bops his head. “My printer was out of ink so I just wrote them down myself.” TJ explains as he hands Cyrus a sheet of paper.
Cyrus holds the torn page from one of TJ’s notebooks like he was just given the most precious gift. TJ had gone to the effort to write out all ninety-seven things from Cyrus’ list and even decorated the margin with a few doodles.
“I also brought a mat because grass makes me itchy- Well we didn’t actually have a picnic mat at home so it’s a bed sheet but same difference,” TJ shrugs, “Oh and my mom packed us snacks. She says she doesn’t want me spending all my money on junk food over the summer.”
Cyrus doesn’t even try to hide his smile at the effort TJ put into the day. Cyrus thinks about how he spent the morning contemplating bringing his vest - the one he wears to Jonah’s frisbee matches - and how he decided he didn’t want to look dorky so all he packed was sunblock for them both and here TJ was unapologetically unpacking supplies. TJ’s rather adorable planning changes Cyrus’ panicked outlook on the first task - and those that will follow - into one more optimistic.
“So we going to do this handstand or what?” Cyrus asks.
“Now that’s the right attitude!” TJ jumps up from the bench.
The two pick a spot under the shade of a big tree. TJ lays out the bed sheet he brought and wastes no time showing Cyrus how easy it was to do a handstand.
“Is there anything you can’t do?” Cyrus coaxes his head to look at TJ whom is holding a handstand. TJ smiles and drops his position.
“I can’t do a cartwheel.” TJ says once he’s sitting.
“But that’s on my list?” Cyrus frowns.
“Guess we’ll both be learning how to do one,” TJ shrugs one shoulder, “Now it’s your turn.”
Cyrus takes a deep breath and holds his arms up, he takes a step forward as if he was about to try but he stops and looks to TJ, “You might want to move back a little, just in case.”
TJ wriggles back to the far corner of the sheet and holds his hands together encouragingly as he waits for Cyrus to attempt his handstand. Cyrus takes another breath but further procrastinates by tucking his patterned t-shirt into his pants.
“Cyrus, Cyrus, Cyrus,” TJ chants quietly.
Finally Cyrus lunges forward but instead of kicking his legs up he just flops forward on his hands and knees. Cyrus lifts his head up and meets TJ’s grimace.
“Almost,” TJ nods lightly, “Maybe try kicking your legs up this time?”
Cyrus lets out a heavy sigh and tries again and again and again and each time ends with a rather ungraceful flop to the ground. After hurtling himself forward doesn’t work, Cyrus switches to two hands on the ground and light kicks of his legs upwards but it ends up being more of an amusing sight with his legs flailing about.
“Try kick higher,” TJ encourages, “I’ll catch your legs.”
“I’ll kick you in the face,” Cyrus says in a panic as he holds his downward dog position.
“Try not to do that.” TJ laughs nervously.
Cyrus kicks up off the ground and his legs smack into TJ’s arms as he failed to grab Cyrus. They try this a few times but it proved no such luck.
“I’m too afraid I’m going to hurt you.” Cyrus shakes his head. “And I can hear children giggling at me and it’s not helping my self-confidence.”
“We’re in a park, Underdog,” TJ laughs, “Hearing children laughing is hardly unusual.”
After another few failed attempts and an entertaining mock yoga lesson from Cyrus, the two decide take a lunch break. TJ practically inhales his food and lays back on the part of the sheet that got direct sunlight. With sunglasses on he enjoys the rays as Cyrus sits in the shade and nibbles on the remainder of his sandwich.
“So is there anything else on the list that you can’t do?” Cyrus questions.
“I don’t know about can’t but there are some things I haven’t done, yeah.” TJ  turns his head towards Cyrus. His choice of words weren’t meant to be braggy or overconfident. Cyrus smiles lightly at TJ’s attitude and wished he could feel more like that.
“There are a few things on the list that didn’t make sense to me,” TJ laughs quietly, “like ‘horses’, what does that even mean?”
“They’re so big and scary.” Cyrus laughs nervously.
“So you want to not be afraid of them?” TJ questions, “Or you want to ride one?”
“Just, horses.” Cyrus shrugs innocently as he had mindlessly added a few things on the list over time.
“Horses.” TJ laughs and he turns his head to the sky again to enjoy the warmth of the sun.
Eventually the two stop lounging around and return to their summer task with a new plan of attack.. TJ cautiously stands by and helps Cyrus kick up against the tree for balance.
“Hey, I did it!” Cyrus is upside down and excited.
“Now try and kick off gently and hold it.” TJ holds his hands out just in case Cyrus fell.
Cyrus kicks too hard and topples over. “I’m never going to get this am I?” Cyrus grumbles on the ground.
“Your list didn’t say anything about being a professional gymnast,” TJ crouches down beside Cyrus, “I think the important thing is that you’re trying.”
“You didn’t pack a participation ribbon in your supplies did you?” Cyrus jokes and it warrants a chuckle from the basketball captain.
“Again?” TJ asks softly.
“Again.” Cyrus matches his tone and the fail montage continues until it’s a success.
“1..2!..3..!” TJ counts the seconds Cyrus held it for before he rolled forward out of his handstand.
Cyrus throws his hands up victoriously in the air and the two teens celebrate his achievement.
“You beat your time it took to do a somersault.” TJ highlights.
“At this rate I’m going do a cartwheel on the first try.” Cyrus jokes and to add to the theatrics he actually attempted to do one and amazingly he succeeded.
Once Cyrus is on his feet he looks to TJ shocked at what just occurred, the taller boy also has a look of amazement plastered on his face.
“Did that just happen?” Cyrus asks in a state of disbelief.
“That was incredible!” TJ affirms in astonishment.
“I can do cartwheels!” Cyrus does three more cartwheels to celebrate.
“You try!” Cyrus stops once he feels dizzy.
TJ frowns knowing it wasn’t going to be pretty but leaps into a failed attempt anyway.
“That’s okay,” Cyrus tries to squash his smile at how gawky TJ looked, “We can’t all be professional gymnasts like me.”
“Okay over achiever, let’s see you climb a tree next.” TJ playfully challenges.
Cyrus scrunches up his nose, “You couldn’t let me be a rockstar for a few more moments?”
TJ coaxes his head with a smile before approaching the trunk of the tree. TJ crouches down and holds his hand on his knee to help boost Cyrus up.
“Is this cheating?” Cyrus hovers by TJ.
“You want to jump up on your own?” TJ asks.
Cyrus looks at the lowest branch which was barely reachable even if he stretched up and then he turns back to TJ with a smile as he accepts his offer to boost him up.
Once on the lowest branch, Cyrus hugs the tree for support and looks down to TJ with an exaggerated smile, “I did it..”
“Higher.” TJ says with a devilish smirk.
Cyrus sends him a puppy dog expression but cautiously stands himself up and climbs to a higher branch and eventually up to the point where he couldn’t climb anymore.
Cyrus looks out through the leaves and admires the wide view scope of the park. His eyes fall on the swings and with a smile he calls down to TJ, “Want to go for a swing before we go home?”
“I’ll race ya,” TJ calls up excitedly.
“I’m in a tree, that’s not fair!” Cyrus whines as he carefully tries to climb down.
TJ chuckles, waits to help Cyrus down from the tree safely and then he playfully pushes Cyrus and runs towards the swings with a head start.
“Last one there has to buy the other a milkshake from The Spoon!” TJ calls out as he runs.
“Your mom said she doesn't want you eating junk food!” Cyrus cries out as he ultimately loses the race.

Louis and Harry attend Liam's Halloween party. Risky Business ensues.

4) We’ll Stumble Through Heaven | Explicit | 6504 words
Louis likes to be a good boy for his alpha.
5) Raised on Rhythm and Blues | Explicit | 8034 words
“That look on your face makes me think you’re not cooking me spaghetti fast enough,” Louis announces as he walks back into the kitchen. Harry knows exactly where Zoe gets her habits from.
“Cooking for my two beautiful and insanely intelligent children, not for the weird bloke that sleeps in my bed and eats all my food,” Harry answers, tilting his head and wondering if he should add more sauce.
6) Forever, Uninterrupted | Explicit | 8578 words
Harry finds a mysterious picture in Louis' bag one night and drives himself crazy over it. It's definitely not what he thinks.
7) Spice Up Your Life | Explicit | 9501 words
After a conversation with his Uni friends, Harry worries that his relationship with Louis has lost it's spark.
8) Infinitely All For Me | Explicit | 10630 words
The Alpha Louis' been betrothed to since he was 14 has finally come of age and Louis' been delivered to his home.
9) Keep Holding Me This Way | Explicit | 13747 words
An English grad student, a frat jock, and an unimpressed rich boy walk into a bar. No one walks out.
10) Let’s Take the World By Storm | Explicit | 14656 words
Harry lifts his head off Louis' chest to look at Louis' face. "What's that supposed to mean?"
“I don’t know, but our sex life feels a bit boring, ‘sall,” Louis says, completely avoiding eye contact.
“Boring.” Harry says flatly. He doesn’t say anything more, and Louis looks up to see that Harry seems to be mulling it over.
“Yeah, boring," Louis says, and keeps talking before Harry can pipe up. “I mean, think about it. We’ve been dating since X Factor, and now things are starting to drag a bit. We don’t even have the time for handjobs anymore, much less actual sex.”
11) The Seed Inside You, Baby, Do You Feel It Growin’ | Explicit | 14793 words
Louis really wants Harry to get him pregnant.
12) Oops, Baby, I Love You (In That Order) | Explicit | 25344 words
The minute Louis Tomlinson decides he don’t need no man to start a family, Harry Styles literally falls into his arms.
13) Another Day Gettin’ Into Trouble | Explicit | 25619 words
Harry’s drunk when the idea occurs to him. He’s also a pop star, so sometimes his drunk ideas turn into actual things instead of just ideas. The clone-a-willy kit is one of them.
In Harry’s defense, when he first thinks about it his intention is just to buy the kit and give it to Louis to make his own dildo with, because that’s what he wants anyway, right? To have a penis filling him up?
Then he realizes that it would be weird if Louis made a copy of his own dick to fuck himself with. It’d be super weird. Louis fucking himself? That’s a weird idea. Harry’s pretty sure Louis wouldn’t like that.
Clearly the only solution here is to use his own dick for the mold.
14) Force of Nature | Mature | 25672 words
Louis is a shy, young musician who doesn't want to go to Harvard.
Harry is a confident,  second year athlete who likes to have a good time.
When their paths cross while their families are vacationing at the same lake resort, what begins as a summer of fun becomes a defining journey that might just change everything.
15) Up To No Good | Explicit | 26525 words | Sequel 1 | Sequel 2
Harry doesn’t think of himself as a womanizer, not at all. Sure, he enjoys sex, enjoys how women feel underneath him, and by some people’s standards he has sex with quite a lot of people, but that’s no reason to tell him that he can’t have a female PA anymore.
It’s especially no excuse for giving him a male PA who’s possibly the most gorgeous boy in the world who won’t even let Harry look at him for too long.
Sometimes Harry hates his life.
16) Always Come Back To You | Explicit | 28862 words
“I’ll do it,” Harry offers brightly. No one even blinks. “I’ll do it?”
Louis sighs irritably. “Shut up,” he orders, tossing a pillow in the general direction of Harry’s face. This is a terrible time for jokes, especially Harry’s lame, old people ones.
Not that it was an old people joke. Just that most of the time Harry’s jokes consist of knock-knocks or terrible puns. The type of jokes old people like, Louis’ pretty sure. His nan always finds them hilarious when Harry tells her one.
Harry bats the pillow out of the air without even blinking. “Be reasonable, Lou,” he says in his most reasonable voice.
Louis is perfectly reasonable, thank you very much, and he’s also frustrated and upset and tired and he really wants to punch something. Maybe he should have held on to that pillow a little longer.
“You’re not gonna fucking do it,” he snaps. “That’s the last thing I need.”
17) Blind From This Sweet, Sweet Craving | Explicit | 31170 words
"So, I guess we'll go?" Louis asks later, when Harry has calmed down and eaten his weight in Chinese food. He plays with this chopsticks, spearing another piece of chicken and pops it in his mouth. "I mean, I wouldn't mind. We could make it an adventure."
Harry observes him, watches him seated across from him on their old living room carpet, with a container of food on his lap. He's fidgeting, avoiding meeting Harry's gaze–he probably knows that Harry's mad at him for ruining the one chance they had to get out of this situation. And he's not wrong, Harry is definitely very mad. Harry wants to strangle him and castrate him and smack him upside the head.
But he's also Harry's best friend, and despite everything, despite all the fuck-ups and the plot twists and everything just not playing out the way it should, he'd still rather be stuck in this situation with Louis than any of the other boys. He's got Harry's back, and in a weird, abstract way, he knows they'll be able to get out of this situation, together.
Harry sighs. "We're going," he says resignedly, his shoulders slumping.
Oh well. There are definitely worse ways to spend the weekend than pretending to be engaged to his best friend.
18) Cupid’s Chokehold | Explicit | 35326 words
Louis is a Cupid who tries to match up Niall and Harry. It doesn't work out as planned.
19) Mark My Word (We Gon’ Be Alright) | Explicit | 35524 words
"He’s always known that there would come a time when Harry would bond with some beautiful, quiet omega, and they would have lots of curly-haired pups and live happily ever after.
Knowing it and living it are two very different things, though. Watching the object of your affection desperately search for a mate and completely disregard you as an option is all sorts of painful, but it is what it is, and Louis is just going to have to learn to live with that."
20) Who Would’ve Thought | Explicit | 44275 words | Companion Fic
The idea doesn’t come to Louis until they’ve been at the bungalow for a couple of days. Harry has no idea that he’s going to pop a knot. He’s been living his life with the expectation that he’s going to be a beta, and Louis isn’t going to tell him otherwise.
Louis is an omega, though, and most omegas want to be filled up with a knot,  fucked the way their bodies are made to be fucked, and Louis is no different. In ten years he wants to have an alpha waiting for him at home who will hold him down and fuck him exactly the way Louis wants to be fucked without worrying that they’re going to expect him to stay at home, open a joint bank account, raise a litter of babies, cook and clean and, most importantly, be submissive. For that to happen Louis needs an entirely different kind of alpha.
And so the plan is born.
21) Tangled Up In You | Explicit | 45152 words
Harry blinks once. And blinks again. And says, his voice dangerous: “Niall, did you get me a mail-order bride?”
Because what the actual fuck. It kind of looks like Niall’s just purchased a person. For Harry.
Niall blinks back at him for a few moments, before throwing his head back and howling with laughter. Harry throws a pillow at him. Hard. “No, what the fuck, Harry.”
“A prostitute then?” Harry also doesn't want a prostitute.
“Of course not!”
“A stripper?”
“No!”
Damn, he’s running out of ideas. He settles for launching another pillow at Niall’s head. Niall bats it away easily, still laughing. “Stop!”
“What did you get me, then?!” Niall must hear the tinge of hysteria in his voice, because he’s pulling himself together, trying to stop himself from laughing.
There’s still a big grin on his face, though, when he says, “I got you a professional cuddler.”
A professional…what. “What?”
22) Nobody Does It Like You | Not Rated | 58820 words
Louis isn't looking for a home, but he finds one in Harry.
23) Tug-Of-War | Explicit | 63000 words
Louis' husband dies suddenly and he is left with nothing. Well, not really nothing. He has Harry. And a St. Bernard puppy named Link, whom his late husband left behind for him. Louis takes care of Link and Harry takes care of Louis. Everything is okay until suddenly, it isn't.
24) Why Can’t It Be Like That | Explicit | 63567 words
A fashion AU with a royal twist, where Louis doesn't need a stylist, Harry's thrilled to have a real life Barbie doll, and they're both very wrong about each other.
25) Perfect Storm | Explicit | 80230 words
What do you do when your best friend asks you and your (now) ex to be the best men at his destination wedding? You can either tell him the truth, tell him you’re not together anymore, and deal with the consequences, or you can pretend you’re still together and roll with it, just pray you don’t spiral. Fake it ‘til you make it. You know, for the sake of the wedding.
Harry and Louis choose the latter.
