I miss you too and I hope life gives you all the good things! From small stuff like seeing something silly on social media that makes you smile to the big things like that happy, warm and content feeling in your chest when you feel properly at ease. I’m a couple of weeks away from handing in my thesis (which is scary as hell but I’m so looking forward to being done with it - but obviously I need to write it first).

britney was abused since she was a kid by an ungrateful industry that sexualized a teenager and profited off that sexualization. she was used by her ex-boyfriend who exposed intimate details of their relationship when it was over and who to this day mentions her whenever he needs to promote something. the industry that brought her up and profited from her had no issues in destroying her image and nearly destroying her life if that meant getting that cash. britney was cheated on by her now ex-husband with whom she has 2 kids and who to this day is still taking advantage of her (financially). she was, in many ways, abused by an former manager who manipulated her, alienated her from her family and took advantage of her. through the darkest period of her life britney produced her best album and one of the most influential albums in pop history that actually changed the pop music sound and introduced darker beats to mainstream pop that we still hear in pop songs today.

you’d think after that the media would back off but of course if they were profiting off britney’s downfall they had to profit off her comeback as well creating a very toxic (hahah) narrative that surrounds mental health. she was robbed of her youth, she had her kids taken away from her, she suffered a whole fucking lot, and creating a narrative that says “all of this was worth it because she came back better” is such bullshit because. no. she didn’t. her mental health is still fragile. she doesn’t even talk about it. you can *see* she has a lot of anxiety. she has a hard time in public situations. she didn’t even speak in the announcement of her new vegas residency. her life is way more protected than it used to be. today, at 37, she’s still under her father’s conservatorship, she’s still under meds, she doesn’t dance like she used to, and she definitely doesn’t look like she used to. her mental health issues definitely affected her physical health and appearance and she’s still criticized for looking older now.

i do believe she still likes to perform and create music but i don’t think she’s in love with the whole process that comes with those things (like promoting something, doing press tours for albums and whatnot). she has said that she’d like to retire in her 40s and i hope she actually follows through tbh.

but the thing is, after every fucking shitty thing in her life, britney is still a loving person who chooses to seek positivity. her kids are the most important thing in her life. she asks her boys if they’re comfortable in front of the cameras. she asks them for their input in her music. she hired a tutor to teach *her* math so she could help her kids with their homework. she’s just a mom and you can see that being a mom is her favorite thing in life. she loves her instagram minion memes and crediting artists and photographers whose work she shares. 

she’s just a shy kind girl who ended up in a terrible industry and in many ways is still trying to adapt to it. she’s a good a person trying her best.
