I have a windows VPS for over two years now. I started using it to ‘properly’ host my own website with WAMP, which i use to host my own sites, my own mail with Axigen and i’ve used it for alot of gameservers to play with friends. I also host the sites of some friends and family out of generosity, really. this machine learned me alot about Windows Server and servers in general.

Now i dont have web panels for this, i do everything on it through remote desktop by manually changing files, adding a virtualhost for a new site to add, restarting apache for it etc. it’s just not very efficient.

so i thought to myself; why not make it more efficient and maybe make some money out of it?

I have a license for WHMCS for automation, and each of my VPS’s( I now own three of them, two windows and one linux) come with a license for Plesk; though it’s only installed on one right now(for testing with WHMCS really)

All three of my servers each have their fair share of bullshit on them so my plan was to wipe them all, install plesk on all of them and install WHMCS one one to use as the ‘central system’. though i do have some questions regarding this.

Is is the best way to do it? what would you guys recommend

i have a domain for the ‘cental server’ or what could be the name for my hosting company, could i use this domain for all the plesk logins for each server, or have the Plesk panel on only one server and only use the other servers i have for processing power and storage? reason being because it looks better and i cannot create SSl certificates for the hostnames of those servers. I seemed to only be able to access plesk through the hostnames

I tested around with creating my own nameservers, i had two subdomains (ns1 and ns2) and set their A record to the IP of one of the server that hosts said site. Is there a better way of doing this?

EIGHT WEEK

Week 8 - The Project

During the eight week, I progressed with Deo Karibigi (IT head) setting up our new account for the virtual server in which we could use a cPanel to manage our resources in the new server. The following is a screenshot of the cPanel and some features:

The installation of Moodle was straight forward because it is done through a wizard called Softaculous. In comparison with the installation of our site in the in-house server of the village that took us around two weeks, this new site was set up in around 10 minutes. Enabling php extensions for the site and finding the location of the Moodle directories takes more time though. I believe the village will be more comfortable using the account and all its features by more and more exposure to it. We programmed the server to be doing backups three times per week. Our idea at the end of the first year with Inmotion (the vps provider) is to transfer sites between hosts. As long as the database is compatible across hosting providers, regardless of LAMP or WAMP, it will work. 

The following is a screenshot of latest version of the site. The domain we chose to own is: https://moodle-lnfhs.org, and we installed a SSL certificate to make it more secure. My co-worker from CMU has been working on uploading some content, installing some plug-ins and adding some HTML/CSS code to get a better look-and-feel of the site:
