Shoreditch Sundays
If you have a regular Monday to Friday 9-5 job, the weekends are a natural source of relaxation and a time to catch up on all those things that you need to do. If you donāt have a job with regular hours (like myself) weekends are the stuff of legend and Sundays in particular can seem almost mythical in their appearance. But when they do come along, whether planned or unplanned, Sundays can be a wonderful thing.
Hereās my tried and tested way to have the best possible Sunday you can have.
I call it: Shoreditch Sundays.
āWhat is itā I hear you cry: itās a slow and easy early afternoon walk around the Shoreditch area visiting one off stores, picking up unique items and eating at locally run restaurants and eateries.
Top tip: I find this walk works best if you start from Aldgate East station and then walk up Commercial Road from there; using Shoreditch High Street station as a starting point is going to lead you to double back on yourself quite a few times.
There are a few stops that are a must if you are going to do this the right way: Spitalfields, Boxpark and Redchurch Street. Youāll firstly come to Spitalfields Market along Commercial Road, which on a Sunday should be bustling with homemade items and unique pieces from independent retailers, as well as great food from the vendors inside. Iāve bought so many great things from here and I have to recommend Inspitalfields, itās this quirky stationary store with all sorts of books, wrapping papers and pens.
After spending what can oftentimes be an eternity in Spitalfields, cross the road and head down Hanbury Street, past the Truman Brewery and onto Brick Lane. Experience this cultural whirlwind, with its vintage stores, Indian restaurants and yet more independent retailers.
Top tip: I personally am not a fan of Brick Lane, as on the weekends especially it can get super busy and not really worth the visit, so if you feel like skipping this part, just carry on walking up Commercial Road from Spitalfields towards Shoreditch High Street station and head towards Redchurch Street.
Itās easy to spend a lot of money on Redchurch Street. Iāve seen it happen and I wouldnāt recommend it, but itās okay to look right? Itās only a small street, but Redchurch Street is home to Lelabo, Aesop, Club Monaco and YMC, so itās easy to see why you can spend a lot of money here. From here, after youāve stopped gawking at the luxuries, head up Camlet Street to Arnold Circus, spend a bit of time relaxing in the gardens here before going along Calvert Avenue back towards Shoreditch High Street.
I normally start to feel the hunger around now, so itās often a perfect time to be heading to Boxpark, a place with so many options for places to eat, I can never settle on a decision. Boxpark is such a successful idea there is now another in Croydon and there is soon to be a third in Wembley. The theme for this seems to be independent retailers, as there are more here at Boxpark along with a few other recognizable names, but itās also a fab place to come back to if you fancy some drinks in the evening as the bars on top are open until 11pm.
From Boxpark you can really go anywhere you want to, I normally head down towards Liverpool Street station and go home from here, but you can spend more time along Commercial Road and go to one of the culinary delights nearer to Aldgate East, or you can head up Shoreditch High Street and go to Hoxton, or go east towards Bethnal Green, the opportunities are endless.
Iāve created the crudest of maps for you to follow, hope this helps in some way to visualize the fun you can have.
Let me know any suggestions you have for a great Sunday in London, I would love to hear them!

11th March How is it even March already? My Saturday spent in London with one of my best friends. Spitafield market where we wanted too many things and visited the inspitalfields that house my future quirky house items , brick lane, compulsory Starbucks visit for the first frappe of this year! The first glimpse of sun this year. A cool pocket bookshop discovery at Liverpool st station. Obviously went McDonald's and met a newly made friend. went to Bond Street shopping, making the most of one of the only forever 21 stores they have. A storm trooper sighting at Tottenham court road and central line delays. Your standard trip in London's streets.
