Kinda obsessed with the historical context of Rise of the Guardians. Pitch wanting the Dark Ages to come back, which historically was the decline of culture and records. The Guardians rose at the same time as the Renaissance with the rise of culture, knowledge, and science. (Tooth in particular mentions that she hasn’t been out in the field for 440 years, give or take, which would put that smack dab in the middle of the Renaissance) 

The way Pitch doesn’t want the world to change, the way the Guardians change in tune with the world. The way Jack, who lived in has a human in the 17th or 18th century, who lived in the time after the Renaissance and lived witnessing the world all the way to the modern era, is there to show the Guardians how much they missed and how they can further change and improve for the more modern world. These characters are immortal beings who have so much power over the world, it makes so much sense that when they fall and rise in power it impacts the world that they want to influence, for better or for worse.

I’m fully expecting matt’s twitter behavior rn to be an intentional harassment campaign of constantly poking and prodding at trans women until they say something that could potentially be construed as a death threat and then retaliating in full force to attempt to get them banned off of twitter as well. I mean, he really, REALLY wants to interpret these things as death threats.

i love dnd mechanics as a representation of the narrative, because it’s one thing to know in-game that the mighty nein are terribly suspicious when reuniting with essek in eiselcross, and another experience altogether watching the entire table shout INSIGHT CHECK over one another the moment essek says anything

i love emily soooo much. i love how shes allowed to be messy, to be mean, to be bitter. and the game never tries to backtrack on this to make her sympathetic. they dont soften her rough edges. they instead bring out the most of her intelligence, and her resourcefulness, through the game design of her sequence in the mines. they put you directly in her shoes, in that moment you are her, youre working together to make it out of the mines. its incredibly effective, as seen through many streamers and players who did a complete 180 on her after this. its a brilliant example of gaming as a platform for storytelling, as you couldn't really pull off the same effect in any other media.

karen- dog. BIG dog at that. this girl needs a great dane or whatever (idk much about dogs) asap. she likes having a companion, she likes feeling safer, she likes having to regularly check in and care for them. she does see the dog as a reporting aid (lures them in with dog- asks them casual questions) (she is not concerned about the ethics of that). she bring them on hikes (you cannot tell me a vermont girl doesn’t like hiking). also guard dog.

matt- cat! tbh finds dogs intimidating and distasteful. loud, trips him, smelly, needy. very very fond of cats. they make nice sounds and are easy to track (click click click claws, purring), don’t aggravate whatever injuries he’s got going on, won’t die if he’s a bit late on feeding them but will be mad enough about it that he’ll try to do it on time. in his space as a pal, not a dependent. he sees them as equals. also cats have literal healing purrs so. (look it up!!). maybe multiple cats. they should be in pairs.

foggy- not super into animals, tbh. he’s seen a lot of dead animal. doesn’t want a creature in his space or depending on him. just had a very farm kid type mentality about it. his extended family had a decent amount of pets growing up and he’s very ambivalent about them. still do, and still ambivalent. very anti-dog owners who bring their dogs everywhere (which karen is. dogs at office an ongoing issue).

elektra- would adore all animals but definitely not want any. pretty much pushes matt aside to see the cat. only visits for the cat. spoils the fuck out of the cat. probably pays for a fancy food subscription service for the cat. probably tracks down and meets claire just because matt mentioned she had a dog (this was a very bizarre encounter for claire). also pays for fancy stuff for her dog immediately after.

claire- i feel like she’s have a little dog that she acts very “ugh this fucking dog needs to go to the vet again” about but she really adores. no real opinions about other animals she just likes HER dog. probably got said dog in some kind of bizarre way (someone brought them to the er and everyone was like??? that’s a dog and she ended up taking them home and treating them?). if matt shows up and isn’t too injured he has to walk them (he fucking hates this).
