The only promo that I remember seeing for the premiere of Insecure was a few posts from Facebook friends after the first episode. Surprisingly, I had never heard of Issa Rae before Insecure (and felt cheated that I didn’t know anything about her Awkward Black Girl series 🤦🏾‍♀️). When I sat down to watch the first episode, I felt so SEEN. Like a fan told her “I came out of the awkward closet”. 😂

It was really refreshing to be able to see a black girl that wasn’t super duper strong, ratchet, uneducated, drug addicted, etc. She was black, educated, awkward, and still trying to figure life out. I was grateful for shows like Being Mary Jane, Scandal, and How to get away with murder, but this show had hit so different for me. It was very relatable.

I’m sad to see it end after 5 wonderful seasons, but I am looking forward to other ventures that Issa and the cast will be apart of. Kudos to the beautiful and talented Issa Rae for creating such an amazing show. It was so needed! ❤️😃👏🏾
