two thousand, four hundred and eighty-four songs on her phone, and she’s been putting the same one on repeat for the past half hour. might be ‘cause she’s a little drunk, a little stoned, and a little too tired to care — might be that she just really needs a moment to listen to some good music, to not worry about anything at all (especially not the bad things inside, the empty parts, the carved holes, that aching void she tries so desperately to fill). tunny helps — tunny always helps these moods. maybe ‘cause he’s fucked up too, and both their fuck ups go hand in hand, like old friends. maybe it’s just ‘cause he’s the most honest person she’s ever known, and a ‘fuck you’ from him feels better than any other kind word from fake people who really don’t give a shit. morgan lazily outstretches an arm towards him though not really bridging the gap between them, too busy holding her corner of the floor to herself, her phone safely tucked inside her jeans’ pocket just so he won’t change the music - she still needs fuel, though. “ — yo, morrissey, pass me a beer. ”

            -   mildred is so very hard to read.  gwendolyn tries, oh god, does she try  -  but it’s near impossible to ever know what the other woman is thinking.  she hesitates for a moment,  toying with the idea of reaching out her hands and taking mildred’s within her own but she quickly decides against it and resorts to placing her hands upon her arms instead.  it’s intimate but it still, she hopes,  gives her the space that she thinks mildred prefers.  “  then tell me, mildred. “  it’s hard to mask the desperation in her tone.  “ tell me what it is that you need right now so that i can accommodate.  i’m trying. “ and there it is, the defeat.  façade cracks just a little, unmasking the vulnerable side of gwendolyn briggs   (  the side she’s tried to hard to keep protected. )  “ i want to make this work between us  -  i want to ensure that you’re happy,  that i’m giving you everything that you could want,  that you could need.  but   -  but to be successful,  you’ve got to work with me, my love.  this is a two way street and i’m no mind reader,  despite how much i wish that i was. “
