DC Comics Supervillain OC: The Lion Master
Civilian Name: Cody Cunningham
Age: 12 1/2 Years
Height: 5’ 0”
Weight: 70 lbs
Personality: Impatient, Filled with internal Self Doubt, Stubborn, Street Smart, Cares for Animals especially his pet Lions, Respectful to his enemies (mainly Skybird), Polite, Merciful, Compassionate, A Quick Learner, Quick Thinking, Friendly, Has a Casual Potty Mouth, Mischievous, Playful, and Optimistic No Matter the Odds
(Under for More Below Cut)
Bio:
Born in Boston, Massachusetts to a Single Poor Mother before her passing when Cody was Six Years of age, having him live in the streets.
Was Picked Up by the traveling Lyons & Guerra’s Amazing Circus at the age of 7, taken in due to his uncanny ability to seemingly get along well with their Lions after being found sleeping in their pens. Was Taken in by a kindly and experienced Lion Tamer who teaches Cody the tool of the trade. However, tragedy strikes during a performance in Bludhaven when by then 11 year old Cody, being impatient in wanting to prove his skills in the show, took a spare whip while the Tamer was in the middle of his act and cracked it. The whip cracking was loud enough that the lions were confused and left disoriented as to where it came from and who to obey. The tamer lost control of them and they attacked him in self defense, mauling the older man to death in front of the show and Cody witnessing it from behind the curtain.
Cody was heartbroken by the tragic accident and the loss of the one person who understood him in that circus. Eventually he overhears the management preparing to put the lions down for their mauling. But unable to see the majestic big cats he seen as friends and family killed, Cody sneaks into their cages to free them. Taking with him only his whip, and only packing up with his outfit and a single toothbrush, Cody flees into the outskirts of Bludhaven with feline companions in tow.
Now left wandering in the Bludhaven streets and without any family, job nor money to provide for himself nor his lion companions, Cody resorts to a life of petty crimes, mainly robberies and racketeering to make ends meet mainly done via ordering his lions to storm and surround the security or anyone in the place of robbery while Cody gains access to his targeted goods, whether they be money or food. This of course runs afoul of resident crime fighter Skybird aka Jake Grayson. After his first attempt at robbing a major bank is foiled by the Tamaranean-Human hybrid and has him and Lion compatriots fleeing from authorities, Cody makes it a point to counter this hero when were his schemes and plots are discovered.
Yet somehow and some sort of way, Cody develops a sort of bond more or less with Jake. For one thing, killing anybody especially innocent civilians whether by his own hands and especially at the claws and teeth of his lions is an absolute line he will never, NEVER cross. It’s considered for him unwarranted and violates his morals if he has any. Plus, from what the wild rumors he hears in the street can attest, Skybird himself comes from circus folk himself or at least has a passing familiarity with it so Cody in turn feels a sort of kin with his hero counterpart. Finally, the fact Jake really doesn’t see true malicious or an appetite for death and chaos he’s seen in truly sinister villains before in Cody’s eyes which inspires him to make offers for the petty criminal to change his ways, never really giving up on him also has an effect on Cody’s heart; maybe one day he can take that offer, it won’t be soon as he’s not a that wants being pitied….but he’ll consider it.
Thus was born a junior Rouge that acts more or less as the Captain Cold to Skybird’s Flash, a true best Frenemy (An enemy and friend at the same time); he no longer a mere Lion Tamer in training, call him The Lion Master
Occupation: Ex-Circus Lion Tamer In Training
Supervillain Outfit: Green Vest with Button Up Long Sleeve White Shirt, Torn Black Pants, Thick Heavy Duty Black Boots and an old school Top Hat
Physical Appearance:
Dirty Blonde Medium Length Hair
Heterochromic Eye Colors (Left: Green, Right: Brown)
Thin Frame With Little But of Muscle Build on Arms
Peculair Feature Of Having Scars on his Feet when they are Bare due to Stepping on Glass Shards throughout his years living in the streets in poverty
Trivia:
Has Three Lions In Total Under his Care and who accompany him on his many adventures, plots and schemes: All three are males with one having a Mane as both the oldest and their leader. Their names from Youngest to Oldest are Antony, Marcus and Octavius
Absolutely despises both Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne as he’s had an overall negative opinion against Rich Billionaires
Favorite Song is ‘Benny and the Jets’ by Elton John. He often times his whip cracks and movements when in the middle of a scheme to the song as his tamer had him practice with said song in the background
Has a Minor Interest In Drawing Arts, mainly with charcoal and often would make portraits of his Lions or his life back at the Circus
Will freely admit that despite often being pitted against superheroes, Nightwing and Beast Boy are his two favorites. Especially Beast Boy given his obvious familiarity and connection to animals of all types

CH.2 - SYMPATHY FOR A DEAD MAN
Even in death, you will be encased and confined to this place of nightmares. In bleeding, evil metal. The minerals that feed on my bones will feed unto more bloodshed, not peace.
Will you be able to rest here, Shin? Peacefully, and eternally?
His eyes claw deep into Midori's face as he haunts his every step through the facility.
Never. NEVER.
I'll never forget you, even if I'm dead.
Won't you show sympathy for a dying man's body?
Chapter 2 of my Ghost!Shin YTTD Fic: MOMENTO MORI is out!
Words: 5,263 Characters: Hiyori Sou | Tsukimi Shin, Original Hiyori Sou | Midori, Meister (Kimi ga Shine) Relationships: Hiyori Sou | Tsukimi Shin/Original Hiyori Sou | Midori [for this specific chapter] Additional Tags: Kanna Lives | Sou Dies Route (Kimi ga Shine), Grief/Mourning, Ghosts, Trauma, Acceptance, Haunting, Mild Gore, Kugie and Shin are Ghosts, Possessive Behavior, Unhealthy Relationships, Character Study, Obsessive Behavior, Fluff and Angst, Edgar Allan Poe References, Introspection
Within the ever-humming, luminescent monitor room, it seems a piece of scrap paper has been inserted roughly into the edge of a familiar book. With an ominous breath of wind, the page falls out.
"I wonder when Hiyori will come back..."

▇▇CONFIDENTIAL▇▇
Shi▇n DIARY ▇▇ :Compiled and Logged by DR. H▅▅▆▅▅ S▅▅U
Ah, broken is the collar red! The spirit flown forever!
Let the bell toll!--a weakling soul floats on the Stygian river;
And, Man of Green, hast thou no tear?--weep now or lie in sin!
See! on yon drear and rigid bier low lies thy love, thy Shin!
Come! let the burial rite be read--the funeral song be sung!--
An anthem for the pitiful dead that ever died so young--
A dirge for him the doubly dead in that he died so young.
"Wretches! ye loved him for his mind and hated him for his lies,
"And when he fell in feeble binds, ye blessed him --that he died!
"How shall the ritual, then, be read?--the requiem how be sung
"By you--by yours, the evil eye,--by yours, the slanderous tongue
"That did to death the innocent that died, and died so young?"
Through discourse and disclosure; but rave not your composure! Let his corpse belong
Go up to God so solemnly the dead may feel so wrong!
The sweet Shin hath "gone before kin," along Joy, that flew beside
Leaving thee wild for the dear child whose death thy should have decide-
For him, the fair and innocent, that now so lowly lies,
The life upon his cyan hair but not within his eyes--
The life still there, upon his hair--the death upon his eyes.
"Avaunt! Tonight my heart is light. No dirge will I upraise,
"But waft that red scarf on Shin's flight as a PĂŚan of old days!
"Let no bell toll!--lest his sweet soul, amid its hallowed mirth,
"Should catch the note, as it doth float up from the damnĂŠd Earth.
"To friends above, from fiends below, the indignant ghost is riven--
"From Hell unto a high estate far up within the Heaven--
"From grief and groan, to purgatory alone, towards the gates of Heaven."

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
A slow march of thinning blood and coarse rubble, clacking against smooth-leather dress shoes. Through barren hallways, the steady sludge of bloody teal. The remnants of the sheep, throwing himself into the lion's den to protect the herd.
A green-haired man steps with a macabrĂŠ elegance, dragging something. Dragging someone. His red scarf sways in the encroaching darkness as a trail of rouge follows behind him.
Up a long flight of stairs, through walls thick with wire, to a cold, silver casket. Glum and static. The perfect place for unfulfilled desires to dissipate.
The green-tailed silhouette, his polished flow broken up by an uncanny rigidity of his joints, halts mechanically in front of the coffin's silver sheen.
The dim room is accompanied by nothing but the dripping din of muddy, stained crimson. The man that holds his pale, fragile wrists doesn't even breathe.
Dull, doll-like jade pupils stare into the empty, bottomless casket. His uncanny gaze shifts towards the bloodied beanie on his beloved's head, beaten with grit and dirt.
Sigh...
The man effortlessly picks up the corpse in his arms, already feeling lighter than when he still had life in him, and carefully drapes the body across the coffin's dark interior.
And slowly, he wakes.
It's true when they say death deprives you of all other things. He once imagined he would wake up, screaming, wanting to scream, perhaps in rage, perhaps in agony, like waking up from a nightmare.
But as he rises once more, all he feels is his numbness. As if all the emotions have left him, buried along with the shell of his mortality, in the gaps of void within the coffin.
The shell of Shin Tsukimi.
.
I'm dead.
Shin Tsukimi sees himself, the same grassy strands of cyan hair on his head. Thin like silk thread, ruffled by his beanie.
Dead. He's dead. Dead? Dead. Dead.
The notion passes through him. Like mercury slides over his tongue every time he says it. He is but a wisp, and only regret tugs at him now.
The searing pain on his neck has left him, and he finds himself as translucent as a ghost. He stares past his hands, vision gluing onto the marks on his body's neck, the symbol of his final resistance. Finally, the first shreds of humanity come back to him as an injustice, a feeling that follows him to purgatory.
Sadness.
He wishes he could cry. Can he cry now? Is he deprived of that too? Maybe he is, but when tries to, it just feels like his spirit is only wallowing and weighing heavier.
I..I wanted to live too...
This...is worthless...all so worthless...
Why has he been left on earth? And here, of all places? This dingy, hellhole.
Shin, now a ghost, can't help but mourn himself. How could he not? Even though he sacrificed himself for the one girl who in turn, selflessly cared for him, A life lost is still a life lost. He lays beside the silver walls of the coffin, curling his translucent knees towards his face as he laments to the floor.
What now...what now...
He's so helpless. When will his spirit wither away? Will it do so along with his body?
It echoes through his soul. Gloomy, so gloomy..
His gloominess is startled by the abrupt clack of polished leather soles. Sharp and familiar; a sound he feared, yet one he would still run to. A sound that makes him jolt up on instinct. And when he does, an immediately recognisable face greets him, merely inches away from his own.
H...
..Hiyori...!
Another part of his life comes back to him, hits him like a cold breeze against his neck. This man was his life. The hairs on his head rise, pupils dilated as he starts sweating, cold and sticky like wax against his even more transparent skin.
Isn't he dead? Why is it as if his heart is racing, still pounding horridly at the sight of him?
Why, even after death, do you still cling onto your abuser?
Those wide, jade eyes don't seem to feel Shin's presence though, merely kneeling forward behind where Shin sat to promptly place a picture frame against his coffin.
He's...he's not smiling like usual, as he remembers him. He looks...somber.
Shin ponders, rather bitterly. Why?
Hiyori’s eyes, although shadowed by the dim backdrop, glows with an eerie stagnancy, downlooking the face framed behind glass.
The face of what used to be reveals itself in yellow backlight; innocent and pure, Shin Tsukimi.
No. No.
Slowly, Hiyori stands up, his neon head bleaching the dark canopy like poison. His face is plastered with a frown, wordless. Dormant.
It was these moments that used to make Shin sweat down to his neck. His indifference was more terrifying than his madness.
But now it was that same face, implanted, injected? – None of it feels real– with a sense of despondence. Confusing. Awful. Simply awful.
There is a slight downturn in the way his pupils eye the coffin. There is a crease where he presses his bottom lip into his jaw.
Shin’s wispy figure swivels around Hiyori's brown dress shoes, to peer at a peculiar piece of paper fallen beside his picture.
His ghastly eyes bore and sink into the words engraved fresh in ink.
..He can't be..

'Sou Hiyori, 21, of R▅D▅CTED, Japan, expired March XXth XXXX. Shin Tsukimi, Son of XXXX and XXXX Tsukimi, expired on March XXth in ASU-NARO's 3rd Floor Rubble Room Facility, after succumbing to mortal injuries in resisting the security systems, to give one last hope to Sara Chidouin and the remaining participants of the Death Game. Tsukimi worked as a job-hopper prior to the Death Game. He also loved computers, soft things, collecting, warm soups and cozy clothing. He displayed a self-sacrificial naiveté and beaming smile that charmed his dear friend. He is survived by his mother, father and little sister, Kanna Kizuchi, who he willingly exchanged his life and identity for in the Main Game to protect her. It is a shame he died without knowing their blood connection. He will be resented but remembered by friends, and greatly missed by family. And me. Me too.’
"Pity...such a pity.." The first murmurs draw out under the green-haired man's breath, sending chills down Shin's spine as it pierces through the unnervingly long silence.
Shin jerks up from his position and freezes there, soul growing colder by the second.
He could never get used to it. But then once upon a time, he did. Why. Why now? And why here?

Kahun Tu’mak
Guardians name: Kahun Tu’mak
Age: Entirely unknown, but seems young, somewhere in his mid adult years.
Race: Cabal
Call signs/alias: Traitor, Son of Zavala, The Pale Titan
Pronouns: He/him
Class: Titan
Preferred subclass(es): Arc
Ghost's name: Gul’tan
Their Vanguard: Zavala, Ikora, Cayde-6
Fireteam name: Harbingers of Destiny
Fireteam teammates: Magnus, Dominus Ghaul, Anthem-99, Velliks, Gadrax, Kahun
Favorite legendary weapon: The Messenger
Favorite exotic weapon: Memoriae, a custom exotic I came up with for his backstory. It’s a rocket launcher made from Ghost shell fragments. The gun is made to represent the combined might of every fallen Guardian, and to keep their memory alive. Its name is from Latin, a dead language, because “Things may be dead, but they aren’t gone so long as we continue to hold onto them.” It’s a metaphor for the fallen Guardians, and how their identities cannot be forgotten, either.
Favorite exotic armor: Curiass of the Falling Star
Favorite ornament armor set: Phenotype Plasticity
Favorite weapon ornament: Bloodline Memorial
What stats do they focus on: Resilience, Mobility, Intellect
Are they offense, defence, or support: Offense and defense equally
Do they prefer being close, mid, or long range: Close to mid range
Do they lean more "Element of Surprise" or "Upfront and Aggressive": Upfront and aggressive
Strikes, Gambit, or Crucible: Crucible
Who was their mentor(if they had one. If it is a character you created, tell us about them!): Zavala
Who are they mentoring(if they are. If it is a character you created, tell us about them!): Nobody, Kahun is a fairly new Guardian, and thus doesn’t have the knowledge or skill to mentor anyone yet.
What ship do they have: High Gravitas
What is their Sparrow: Golden Pride
Favorite Ghost shell: Predator Sun
Favorite shader: Horizon Blush
Favorite color: Red/gold
Favorite food: Popcorn
Favorite piece of Pre-Collapse tech(if they've seen any): Laptops. Kahun is fascinated with computer technology from before the Collapse began, but especially the first portable computers. They’re slow bricks compared to what is available now, but they’re still full of interesting components and mechanisms!
Favorite Pre-Collapse music(if they've heard any): Finntroll
Favorite place in The Last City(if it's a place you created, give a little description!): The Tower
Favorite NPC(s): Zavala, Saint-14, Lord Shaxx, Ikora, Amanda Holliday, Ada-1, Tess Everis, Eris Morn, Asher Mir
Favorite patrol location: The Crater on Io. It’s quiet, lonely, he can think, and it’s relatively close to the Traveler, which he always desires to bond and connect deeper with.
5 things your Guardian likes(can be anything): Solitude, combat, allies/friends (they’re one in the same to him), learning, kids
Least favorite food: Fish of any sort
Least favorite shader: Dead Zone Bark
Least favorite patrol location: Anywhere on Mars
Least favorite Pre-Collapse tech(if they've seen any): Corded telephones
Least favorite NPC(s): Emperor Calus, Mara Sov, Lakshmi-2
Least favorite weapon ornament: Coup de Main
Least favorite ornament armor set: Luxe Titan
Least favorite legendary weapon: Timelines’ Vertex
Least favorite exotic weapon: Devil’s Ruin
Least favorite exotic armor: Eternal Warrior
5 things your Guardian dislikes(this can be anything): Disloyalty, mistrust, betrayal, ignorance, malignance
Your Guardian has to rest. What is their living space like: It’s very neat, very minimalistic as Zavala has inadvertently influenced him to be. It’s across the hall from Zavala’s room, and is rather large to fit his huge size.
Does your Guardian have any casual wear?(Y'all remember Polyvore? The website URSTYLE works very similar if that helps!):
Tumblr media
What hobbies and/or skills does you Guardian have: Translating Ulurent, construction and architecture, astrophysics
What would your Guardian's lore book be called: Solemnity and Turbulence
Where was your Guardian reborn?(If you created the location, give us a little description!): Frigid Wastes. It’s a now-destroyed Cabal base on Mars, most notable for its gladiator arena where Cabal would kidnap Guardians, slay their Ghosts, then challenge the Lightless to their death in attempt to show the universe what Guardians are truly worth. The place used to be grand, almost like a castle, but has now become rubble and dust coated in layers of pemafrost.
What were they wearing when they were reborn: Busted Cabal power armor, and a broken rebreather.
What was their reaction to being reborn: Absolute confusion
What was their reaction to their first rez: Kahun had no idea what was going on, and couldn’t understand what was happening to him.
After being reborn, did they meet friendlies first or hostiles: One friendly person, and lots of hostile people. The only friendly person was Zavala, whom Kahun stood up in front of with a blank look of sheer confusion on his face, not knowing why everyone else held a gun aimed at him.
Who was the first other Guardian they met?(Same thing! If you made them, give a little description!): Going before res, Kahun met countless Guardians whom he never knew the names of, sadly, and all of whom were slain by his comrades. After res, there were many Guardians in a whole legion, swarming him cautiously except, again, Zavala.
Did your Guardian get reborn with, or find, any indication of their past life? If so what do they have/found: Kahun has learned a LOT about his past life, despite Zavala constantly deterring him from this. First and foremost, Kahun was resurrected in the remains of his base, with lots of dead Cabal around him, leading Kahun to question what he was doing there. From this question sprang many others, eventually drawing Kahun back to his former base whereupon he learned he was formerly a Gladiator, forced to be there by Calus’s orders, and slay Guardians for their Final Deaths. Kahun looked in the rubble of the arena and located thousands of Ghost shell fragments, all of which scattered about, and he knew he unwillingly partook in this. There, Zavala told him Kahun jumped in front of a rocket to protect Zavala’s Ghost because he wanted no more pointless deaths, and died on impact, therein protecting the commander and his Ghost. This is why Zavala feels a major duty to raise and protect Kahun: a debt repaid. Kahun now uses those Ghost fragments and has made Memoriae with them to defend every Guardian and innocent soul in the galaxy with the combined might of everyone who’d been slain in the arena.
How did your Guardian get their name(if they didn't rez with past life momentos): Kahun remembered his name upon being resurrected. When him and Zavala formed a tight enough bond, Kahun suggested a last name for the both of them so they could be considered family: Tu’mak. In Ulurent, this name means “United”.
Going back to your Guardian's lore book, what would be some some quotes or passages from their book: One text would certainly be about forging Memoriae. I’m currently working on his lorebook and compiling the passages in it on AO3. It’ll contain record logs of his training with Zavala when both met, tales of Kahun discovering his past and lamenting over it, and his endeavors as a Guardian to make the galaxy safe against anyone who dares threaten the innocent.
Does your Guardian have a significant other: No, not at the moment. I can’t decide on one.
Did your Guardian go explore first before going to The Last City? If so, where to: He did! Zavala kept him in the EDZ for a while before going to the Tower, and trained him there so nobody would panic upon seeing a Cabal Guardian.
What was their reaction to first seeing The Last City: Sheer awe and wonder. Kahun had never seen anything like this, and never knew such unity or peace. In fact, he never knew peace at all, he wasn’t taught it as a militaristic Cabal. He was entirely shocked, and in love!
Is your Guardian a part of a clan: The Traveler’s Legion
Does your Guardian's clan have a back story? If so, what is it?(if you want to or able to share): After Dominus Ghaul was resurrected, and worked with Magnus to unite the Cabal under one banner, Ghaul offered Kahun to form his own Legion of Guardians who’d be ambassadors to the Cabal, and thus Kahun formed The Traveler’s Legion.
If your Guardian would have a quote as a flavor text for a weapon and/or piece of armor, what would they be: “To have and to hold... I’ll hold your Light, I promise. Until we meet again.”
If your Guardian has had any interactions with any civilians (The Last City/The Farm), Eliksni, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, Scorn, Rouge Lightbearers, or Iron Lords/War Lords(if your Guardian is an Old Light) tell us about it!: Kahun’s first interactions within The Last City were entirely hostile, full of people trying to hurt and hunt him down. Kahun was not allowed out alone, and it took years for anyone of Humankind to accept a Cabal is a Guardian. Cabal around the galaxy hated Kahun and attempted to slay him for having gone against his kin, until the unity came and Kahun was given position as a Primus. Kahun has befriended many Eliksni, and he thinks they’re adorable. He loves children from The Last City, and many come swarming him curiously during his patrols to ask questions about him being a Cabal. Kahun always answers happily, and teaches the children that no species is entirely, inherently evil, and anyone is capable of doing great things. Kahun is devoted to the Crucible, so he doesn’t enjoy seeing Lord Saladin or any of the Iron Lords around. But he believes Saladin may someday come to his senses and recognize what he’s done.
Does your Guardian have any unconventional allies or connections(By Vanguard standards): His connections to Ghaul and Magnus. Kahun tries to separate himself from most of Cabalkind due to his past, but he maintains his connections in the form of The Traveler’s Legion in hopes that other Cabal will someday be seen as worthy by the Traveler’s standards as he and Ghaul were.
How does your Guardian feel about themselves or others using Stasis: Kahun doesn’t trust it himself. He sees and understands why others use it, but he couldn’t be paid to use Stasis himself.
Did they run The Last Wish raid? How did they react to seeing a live Ahamkara a.k.a Riven: N/A since Kahun isn’t actually playable :(
Did they run The Deep Stone Crypt raid? How did they react to the Crypt and seeing Exo Eliskni: N/A
Is your Guardian from D1? How did they react to seeing Taniks alive once again: Kahun isn’t from D1, so seeing Taniks alive was just a sort of “Who are you?” moment.
Where did they go and what did they do during The Red War: Kahun was still enslaved on the Gladiator base on Mars. He was avoiding fighting Guardians at all costs, and in fact, worked to set many of them free before their final fights.
Here are some characters that are either polarizing or have created a strong enough mass emotion within the community. What opinion does your Guardian hold on each of them(These are only a handful of characters!)>>>
Osiris, First Warlock Vanguard, originally exiled: Kahun admires him and looks to Osiris for wisdom.
Eris Morn, Bane of the Swarm: Pity. Kahun wishes she still had the Light, that she was still safe, and untouched by the Darkness. He truly feels bad for her, and just wants her to be ok but knows Eris will never know peace again.
Cayde-6, Sixth Hunter Vanguard: Insane and utterly self-destructive. Kahun wonders how he’s still alive...
Ikora Rey, Second Warlock Vanguard: An absolute guiding force. Ikora has taught him lots, and give him great insight into the Light.
Commander Zavala, Second Titan Vanguard: Dad.
Saint-14, legendary Titan, First Titan Vanguard: Absolute admiration. Kahun deeply appreciates and aspires to be like Saint, even trying so hard as to mimic his moves in the Crucible.
Lord Saladin, Iron Banner handler, One of the last remaining Iron Lords: Kahun hopes Saladin will realize the error of his ways someday, and make amends as he is doing himself.
Lord Shaxx, Crucible handler, Hero of Twilight Gap, living megaphone: His teacher and other guidance. Like Ikora, Shaxx taught Kahun how to vent his feelings in the Crucible by fighting and using his adrenaline.
The Crow, New Light, Ex-Enforcer to The Spider: A friend and child who MUST be protected at all costs. Kahun knows who Crow truly is, and he wants Crow to be safe as a Guardian.
The Spider, The Shore's Only Law, founder of "House" Spider: Untrustworthy, and not somebody whom he’d turn to unless absolutely necessary.
Uldren Sov, Prince of the Reef, Master of Crows: A disaster who, like him, was manipulated and controlled.
Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef, Queen of the Awoken, Ex-Kell of Wolves: She must pay for her crimes by death.
Variks, the Loyal, founder of House Judgement: Indifferent. If he hadn’t released Uldren, then Crow wouldn’t exist. But at the same time, what Uldren’s release cost the galaxy might not be worth Crow. Kahun doesn’t know what to think of Variks’s past actions, and certainly doesn’t let them go or forgive them.
Mithrax, the Forsaken, Kell of Light, founder of House Light: Kahun trusts him entirely and wholeheartedly. Mithrax is an ally and friend.
The Exo Stranger/Elizabeth "Elsie" Bray, Granddaughter of Clovis I and Sister to Ana Bray: She can be an ally, someone to rely on if necessary, but he’d rather not trifle with the Darkness in any way.
Eramis, of House Salvation, Kell of Darkness: Nope nope nope, he will fight her on site because the Darkness isn’t something he’d like to have hanging around, even if it can be harnessed by others.
Empress Caiatl of the Cabal Imperial Empire: Hhhhhhh don't trust!!! Calus bad, therefore Calus family bad! Right? RIGHT??!! HHHHHHHEEEELLLLLPPP!
Taniks the Scarred, the Perfected, the Abomination, the Shadow Thief: “Who the everloving fuck is this dude, and why is he after me???”
The Darkness is fast approaching. How is your Guardian handling it: Kahun is anxious, but ready to go head-on. He’ll fight as best as he can, no matter how hard that may be to do. Kahun will stave the Darkness off at literally any cost, including his own life. Ride or die.
And finally, does your Guardian have any advice for any New Lights: “The Traveler chose us for a reason, and it’s our duty to uphold that reason. Debts are repaid only to make new ones, but just maintain your duties as a Guardian, and you can someday die knowing you’ve done the right thing.”

Roguish Women Part 20
Summary: Kate Rosseau is an American who fled to Paris to escape her past life. Now she's dancing and playing the part of a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge. There she meets Tommy Shelby who thinks she can be useful in expanding his empire. But has he been blinded?
Part 20: A week after the funeral, Kate still doesn’t know how any of them will recover.
          Ada looked alarmed when Polly and Michael walked into the foyer without Kate. Dressed in black, they looked as if they were in mourning but moved like they were prepared for business. The medium that was necessary.
           “Where is Kate?”
           Polly already looked stressed enough, her niece’s question didn’t help any. “She didn’t come.”
           Ada’s eyes widened. “Pol, Tommy gave me a list and said that she needed to be here. She’s supposed to meet with him after you two meet with him. That’s why I asked you-”
           Polly held up a hand. “She wouldn’t let me in the flat for ten minutes. Then she let me in and said she wasn’t going. I said what Tommy said but she just ran off and got sick in the bathroom.”
           “But-”
           “Would you rather I had Michael pick her up and throw her in the car?”
           Ada sighed and threw up her hand. “Okay, but you can tell Tommy.”
~~~~~~~~~~
           After discussing legitimate business with Michael and Polly, Tommy dismissed them. Michael stood up to leave instantly, a good soldier. But Polly lingered. “Tommy.”
           “That’s all.” He said again, the tension rising in his voice. “Go get Kate.”
           “That’s the thing, Tommy, she didn’t come.”
           He looked up from the mess of paperwork scattered across his desk. “Excuse me?”
           “I couldn’t get her to come.” There wasn’t much else to add to it because there wasn’t anything Polly could say to make the ordeal better.
           “I told Ada she needed to be here, so why isn’t she sat in front of me right now?” He pointed at the chair Michael had left.
           “I don’t know what else to tell you, she said she couldn’t.”
           “She couldn’t.” Tommy scoffed and leaned back in his leather desk chair. “That’s funny.”
           “You need to realize-”
           He interrupted her before she could lecture him about respecting other people’s feelings. “Go into the hall, pick up the phone and call her. Tell her if she’s not here by tonight, she’s in big trouble.”
           Even if Polly was appalled by her nephew’s behavior, there wasn’t much she could say. A person in mourning wasn’t the most sensible. “Alright.” She stood up and headed out of the room to put in a call to Kate.
~~~~~~~~~~~
           A driver was sent to Birmingham to pick up Kate. She arrived just after dinner. The headlights crossed over the study, alerting Tommy. It was the first time that he’d stayed in the house past dusk since Grace’s funeral. It made him itch because all he could think about was the bedroom they once shared. The bed that remained empty. Tommy wouldn’t ever sleep it in again.
           He and Kate hadn’t interacted since the funeral. And even then, they hadn’t spoken. Tommy hadn’t spoken to anyone.
           He didn’t watch as she stepped out of the car and walked inside. He kept his eyes steady on the bookcase across the room from him. Simply downing glass after glass of whiskey. There was no sense as to why he just didn’t drink straight from the bottle instead of pouring the correct amount into the same crystal tumbler. Maybe it was just a habit. Or maybe it removed himself from the reality that he was draining the full bottle. Instead, he was just downing a couple of inches at a time. That’s all he’d been doing. Seeing if he could survive another second. Then another and another. Suddenly, the day was gone and the bottle was empty.
           “Come in,” Tommy spoke up when he heard a knock at the door.
           Kate stepped inside, pulling off her gloves and hat. However, she left on her coat as she realized upon spending a few moments in the room that it was freezing. “You aren’t keeping a fire on in here? It’s drafty.” She looked up around the large room fit for his study. There was a portrait of one of his horses on the wall but other than that, there weren’t many personal items. She knew that he was a man who kept his passions close to the heart and wouldn’t outwardly display them if they weren’t in his best interest. He didn’t wear his heart on his sleeve.
           “Why didn’t you come this afternoon when I asked you to?” He didn’t respond to her initial, innocent question. His hand was wrapped tightly around his whiskey glass. His eyes looking not really looking at her but through her. As if she weren’t really standing there. His lips were pursed as he waited for her response.
           Kate hit her gloves against her thigh a few times before walking over to the desk to sit. “I don’t know, Tommy.” She admitted. “It’s too soon and I don’t even know what to think.”
           “Too soon for what?” There was no give in his voice. No gentleness that he had shown her before.
           “Just for-for all of this. For business and communicating and just-” Kate lost her nerve. The entire drive there, she couldn’t come up with one thing to say to Tommy. She had already given him her condolences. He didn’t want sympathy from anyone. She couldn’t offer any explanation because there wasn’t any he wanted to hear. She couldn’t explain the guilt and grief she felt because it felt minuscule to what he was feeling. It was comparing a drop to an ocean.  “It’s too soon for you, Tommy.”
           He let go of his grip on the glass and busied himself with lighting a cigarette. “You don’t get to tell me what I’m ready for.”
           “I’m not. I’m just going off what your family has been telling me.” She folded her hands on her lap, not ready for a fight. That would just be like two wounded fighters dragging their swords into another fight for no good reason.
           Tommy focused on his smoke for a bit before he addressed her again. “When I ask you to come to something, you come.”
           Kate bit her tongue but still couldn’t keep herself from giving a prickly reply. “If you had things to tell me that was urgent, you could’ve called me.”
           “That’s not the fucking point.” He tapped his cigarette against the ashtray.
           “Tommy, everything I’ve done for you never matters. What matters is when I can’t do something. Before you pull shit like this, remember that I’ve stretched myself thin to accommodate you and to improve your business dealings. That’s what you brought me in here for, that’s what I’m doing. I’m not a puppet that you can call in any second of any day. Don’t you realize that everyone is suffering to at least some degree?”
           Before she could continue, Tommy slammed his open palm on the desk. The loud noise made Kate jump in her seat and go quiet.
           Exhausted, running on nothing more than whiskey and cigarettes, Tommy had reached his breaking point. His mind was nothing more than a blurred mess of jumbled thoughts and unbearable emotions. Feelings he was trying his damndest to subdue with alcohol. “Italians killed my wife. John and Arthur are going tomorrow to find their kin and bring him back to me. I won’t kill him right away; I’ll ask him a few questions. And if your fucking name comes up at all-”
           Her eyes widened in absolute disbelief. “Are you implying that I had something to do with this!?” Her voice raised in pitch and she stood up.
           “This whole time you’ve gone on about Italians being after you. You knew who the Changrettas were.” Tommy pointed a finger at her.
           “How dare you?” She gasped in utter shock. Removed from the situation, she might’ve realized that he was just grasping at straws, trying to make sense of the murder of his wife. “You know exactly why this happened and you’re putting it on me? Your brother cut Angel, I told you what sort of hell they would unleash on you but you wouldn’t fucking listen to me!”
           “You called her a liar, you wanted her gone!” Tommy rose from his chair to meet her challenge.
           “I never wanted her gone! I showed up at that dinner because she asked me to. I showed up to support her and you. I may be a lot of things, Tommy, but I am not vindictive. I know when to walk away, unlike you!”
           “Then how did you know about the Changrettas?” He demanded.
           “I told you how I knew them. And I know what kind of people they are. I told you what they would do. And I’ll tell you this now. I would never ever work with them or help them in any way. They would sooner sell me out to Santo. So, don’t you ever question my loyalty again!”
           Tommy appeared to be out of avenues of accusation. Even in irrational of a state he was drowning in, he had enough sense to hear her defense. The whole time, Tommy wanted desperately to clear his conscious of Grace’s death. He didn’t want to wake up in that pasture every morning knowing that his actions put that bullet in her heart.
           He ran a hand over his mouth and returned to his chair. “It was the fucking sapphire then.” He muttered.
           “What?”
           He shook his head. “The woman I was speaking to before it happened.”
           “The duchess,” Kate confirmed.
           “She said the sapphire Grace was wearing had been cursed by a gypsy.” He explained.
           Her brow furrowed. “And you believe that?”
           Weary, Tommy just pinched the bridge of his nose to ward off the pain throbbing in his head.
           Kate allowed herself to lower her defenses once she saw that he wasn’t willing to blame her anymore. He was just a grief-stricken man searching for explanations. “I don’t know anything about curses. But does it really matter? You know who did it. They’re going to pay.”
           He dropped his hand from his face and look up at the ceiling for a moment. “I need sleep.” He mumbled.
           It was clear enough to her. He hadn’t been sleeping because of the guilt. She knew for certain because she wasn’t sleeping either. Not in the cause of the murder. There was no question that she had nothing to do with it. But the whole time Grace and Tommy were married, Kate envied her. She wanted to be in her former agent’s shoes. To be the woman on Tommy’s arm. She prayed that one day Tommy would see that Grace was deceiving him, as she’d done before. Then maybe he would leave her and open himself up for Kate. But she never imagined the murder would happen. That’s not the way she wanted to find her spot beside Tommy. She wouldn’t take advantage of a woman’s death. And yet, she still felt guilt for the feelings she harbored for Tommy. During their marriage and after.
           “Then look for absolution,” Kate replied. “However, you see fit.”
           Tommy looked at her for a second, the first time he was really seeing her. “If I kill Vincente, Santo Leoni loses another ally.” He said out of the blue.
           “You need to be careful. Luca’s still active. If you kill his father, he will come for you.” Kate warned.
           “If he’s a man of honor, he’ll understand why I’m doing this.” Tommy picked his cigarette out of the ashtray to finish it.
           “You don’t need to worry about me, I can handle myself.” She didn’t want Vincente’s death linked to her in any way. Not even by a thought.
           Tommy nodded and opened one of the top drawers of his desk. “I need you to do a couple of things.” He handed her a piece of paper that was folded three times.
           “Okay.” She tucked it into her purse. “I’ll look over it when I get home.”
           “You can stay the night.” He offered.
           The suggestion hit her like a shock down the spine. “No, thank you but I would rather just drive back home.”
           “It’s a long drive.”
           “Well, you’re the one who wanted me to come at the last moment so I suppose I’ll just be getting back late.”
           He raised an eyebrow. “Kate, just stay over for one night, it’s okay. You’re not intruding.”
           “That’s not what I’m worried about.” She replied.
           The two looked at one another for a short bit. Tommy opened his mouth to say something but she stopped him.
           “I’m not someone who fills the space, Tommy. I stand on my own for a good reason. I don’t fit in other people’s lives. You can’t keep me around because you’re lonely.”
           Tommy pressed his knuckles into the edge of his desk. The dull aching pressure was enough to remind him he was still there. “Grace wasn’t pregnant.” He told her.
           “I know. Polly told me.” She wasn’t sure if he was trying to get a reaction out of her. And if he was, she didn’t know what kind of reaction he was looking for. Shock, joy, anger, relief?
           “I knew before everything. Before the dinner. She told me the truth.” He rubbed the side of his face, stifling a yawn. “I couldn’t walk away from her. We decided to say she had a miscarriage. Then we’d have children along the line, hopefully.” He took a deep breath. “I thought I had it, Kate.”
           There was no way she was going to lecture him or tell him she told him so. She wasn’t there to rub salt in the wounds. She simply saw him as a man who loved a woman at one point. So much so that when she came back into his life, he thought he could realize something that seemed so hard to grasp. A perfect life with a doting wife and children. Maybe he thought it was his only chance. So, he grabbed it and tidied things up along the way as they were needed. In a way, Kate could respect his commitment. “I’m sorry, I wish things worked out for you, I really do. No matter what I thought, or think, I want you to be happy, Tommy.”
           “That’s why I never stopped loving you. Even when she came back. I still loved you. I still do, Kate.”
           It was a strange concoction of feelings that sunk through her skin. A sense of validation mixed with absolute dread. She had waited so long to hear him reciprocate the feelings she had for him. But never in those circumstances. Her stomach churned. She wanted to admit that she’d never stopped loving him either. She wanted to be happy with him. But it was impossible after what happened the week before. It made her sick to her stomach to think that she wanted to be with him. The guilt was like poison. Making her nauseous and faint.
           She stumbled to stand, leaving her hat and gloves behind but managing to grab her purse. “I can’t do this.” She whispered and made an exit for the door.
           “Kate. Kate!” He called after her but she was gone before he could stop her. He paused at the doorway, listening to the heavy front doors close. The headlights dashed across the study again, the crunch of gravel under tires signaling her departure.
~~~~~~~~~`
           After she was dropped off back home. Kate was desperate to just go to bed. She couldn’t handle everything, she just wanted to sleep so she didn’t have to cope. Tears in her eyes, she unlocked the door.
           “Micina, it’s been long enough.”
           When she heard his voice, every muscle in her body locked up with fear.
           “Turn around, Kathleen, aren’t you excited to see me?”
           It felt like her heart wasn’t working properly. But she had to turn around to make sure it wasn’t just a figment of her imagination.
           Santo grinned from his spot on the sidewalk a few feet from her front steps. “After all this time and I still make you speechless.” He chuckled and took a few steps toward her. “Now, let's have a little talk.”
Ember 2 (final)
The Crackling Embers
By: @cutegirlmayra (Thanks for the commission! Here’s something sweet! 😉 )
Ember was rotated backwards on a steel stretcher, strapped with leather, she laughed and figured she could tear easily through them.
Except… she couldn’t move.
The electric steel receptor would zap her even on slightest movement, but that didn’t stop her from wiggling her tail when the door slid open and she saw Shadow.
“Shad-! AHHHHEEEEEOOOO…ouch.” The electricity immediately turned on, shocking her into a stillness again as her tail flopped down over her.
“Hello.” She smiled sweetly to him. “You gonna bust me outta here?”
“…We need you for something.” Shadow stopped in front of her, folding his arms.
“Ohh~ A mission?”
“For G.U.N.”
“Pass.”
She frowned.
“…For Sonic… and his friends.” He glared a warning, showing his need for her to reconsider.
“Ehmm… we’re buddies, but… favors?” she was only stalling now, playing around.
She hadn’t seen Shadow in a while, so she was hoping-
“…For me?” he looked agitated.
“Sure, anything for family!”
He nodded to a camera and she was rotated back into a straight position as he untied the straps.
“This is serious… Sonic team requested backup.”
“Little Hedgehog got his foot struck in a drain?” she teased, smirking.
“… Eggman has taken over 20 percent of the world… And Sonic couldn’t stop him.”
He seemed to grimace at that fact before helping her down.
“Thanks.” She took his hands and hopped off the steel, “One sec.” she lifted a sharp claw…
She shred through the steel with a few quick and precise swipes.
Sparks flickered everywhere and she cockily placed her claws up to her mouth, blowing on them.
“Alright, continue.” She grinned, looking over her shoulder to him.
“But I warn you… I will never work for G.U.N…”
“Hmph, then work for me.”
He looked annoyed, and she wagged her tail.
“There’s never a ‘good side’ to you, is there?”
She followed him through the sliding door of G.U.N’s base, looking around and pretending to be amazed at the technology, but mostly there for Shadow.
“As family, it’s almost like my job to try and find that good side to ya, bro.”
“…Bro?” he seemed confused, turning around. “You were created as my prototype, a companion to me and have restored more memories of Maria than I can count. I owe you that much… but no. We are not ‘family’.” He glared, holding a hand up to her as she went to take it, but winced back when he said such a cruel thing.
She puckered her lips and side-commented over her shoulder, “Grumpy quills…”
They continued to walk and she didn’t take his hand, seeing as he was only gesturing, but she didn’t quite understand the socialisms…
She was still living alone… sometimes running into Sonic and his friends, but not much.
“Who’s Eggman?” she asked, walking into an elevator with him.
Shadow turned around and clicked a button, which fascinated her when it turned bright from the touch.
“He’s Gerald’s evil grandson.”
Her finger went to spike into the next buttons, hoping to see them light up, but her shock at hearing that made her miss and stab the side through instead. “WHAT?!”
Shadow saw the fizzing of the area as she struggled to try and pull her finger out, sighing in disappointment at her childish ways and rubbing the bridge between his eyes with his fingers…
They arrived at an upper level, and Ember looked very confused, finally seeming to take some things seriously.
Her eyebrows furrowed and she followed Shadow out of the elevator, “You mean… Gerald had other family we didn’t know about?” She made a face, showing some sorrow. “Shouldn’t we try and reform him? I mean,… he’s kin!” she ran after him, but Shadow pivoted and continued his cruel stare at her.
“Reform Eggman?” He scoffed, “He’s bent on taking over the world. He’ll robotize every living thing till there’s nothing left to conquer. Then he’ll build a ridiculous theme park!” he swiped a hand out, making Ember step back and look down in greater sadness. “He’s insane… and once again, we have no kin… we’re experiments. Remember your place.” He went to continue walking, but a voice from above suddenly spoke out, making him look around.
“My, my… you’re so cruel to her, Shadow… I’m glad I’m used to it.”
“Show yourself, Rouge!” he almost demanded, making her pout as she was sitting on a beam in the shadows.
Her wings flexed out, making a sound that spooked Ember as she dove down and landed quite gracefully.
“Remember me?” she batted her eyes and then winked to Ember, who swiped a claw at her and growled.
Her ears drew back, not liking this bat girl…
As Rouge flew up again and circled Shadow, she grew even more tense, shaking as she raced to grab Shadow’s back quill. It was instinctive, she just didn’t like other people around Shadow… especially those she didn’t know really well.
She poked her head over Shadow’s shoulder and stuck her tongue slightly out at Rouge.
Rouge smiled back to her before landing by the control panel, revealing monitors as she typed in certain things.
“Eggman has conquered a continent, but he’s not done there. According to Tails, he’s spreading out. We’ve let sleeping eggs lie for too long… it’s about time we stop underestimating Eggman’s potentials.” Rouge turned to them again after typing, “My guess is you’re taking the rocket?”
“Yes.” Shadow turned and grabbed the back of Ember’s red cloak, pulling her back to follow him.
“Whhaa-a-a!” she was startled, tip-toeing back before pouting and turning around. “Yeah, yeah… I’m coming, I’m coming…”
“G.U.N only protect certain areas… we’ll have to infiltrate his base and take him down at the core of his invasion…” Shadow grabbed a large rocket, then gripped her hand.
This made her look down and smile, thinking he was going to help her into the rocket.
But… his grip was really… really strong.
“You should brace yourself…” he mentioned.
“Wait,… What do you meeeeeeAAAANNNNNN!!!” she was shot into the air as he held her hand while the rocket shot up and arched through the skies, a direct route to the continent.
Her gums flapped everywhere, making a silly expression as they finally began to move swiftly through the open skies towards their destination.
“This is gonna take time to get used too!” she screamed through the disturbance in the air, but Shadow kept his eyes fixated on the direction of the rocket.
She frowned again, arching her eyebrows back. “Shadow…”
Her purpose… if he didn’t need her, what was it? She hated the fact that she was just a companion. A prototype… the second favorite…
She looked down at the ground, gripping her arm and starting to feel some pain from dangling behind him.
She looked back at him.
No pain? Or was he masking it under that cold exterior?
She wanted to believe there was kindness in him… and she was sure there was! But…
Will he ever show it to her?
She squinted her eyes shut, biting her jaw down. ‘We’re family! Yet… he says we’re not!’
Once again, she went to inquire, “Shadow!”
His eyes shifted frighteningly fast down to look at her, but his head never moved.
She gulped, “Uh… shouldn’t we be serving Eggman? If he’s Gerald’s grandson…”
“What part of ‘evil’ and ‘taking over the world’ did you not understand?” he scolded.
She looked away.
Suddenly, Shadow’s face shifted, and he looked back at the rocket…
“Hhhmm…” he seemed to disagree with his tone and spoke out again. “I understand that Gerald means a lot to you… perhaps how Maria meant to me…”
She looked back up at him, hearing his voice turn a little more empathic.
“…But Eggman’s not like Gerald. He’s eccentric. Maniacal. There is some good in him but only when the odds are against his favor… then he helps us to defeat a foe that challenges himself.” He glared forward. “He’s selfish and has no care for nature. Life or not, he’ll stomp on anything just to seize power over it…”
“…Sounds unforgivable.” Her mind raced to the children…
“….Ember.” he looked down to her, less angry now.
“Yes?” innocently, she looked up.
“…Stay close. I…” he looked away, being vunerable for a moment. “…I don’t want to lose you.” He stared off into the smoky distance yonder… there, in the grey and brownish hue of cloud cover, or was it smoke..? There came a few robots with jetpacks on, holding guns as their arms, and a large—oversized and ugly—megabot that’s eyes glowed red through it all.
“…Get ready.” He took on a serious look, pulling out a gun.
Ember, seeing the amount of foes waiting for them in the skies, narrowed her brow and swiped her cloak away, revealing her black emerald imbedded in her chest.
“Bring it on!” she cried out.
He protected the rocket as long as he could, but then released his hold and pulled Ember towards him as it exploded from being fired at.
He didn’t even glance at her, just kept shooting, but she used her Chaos attacks to knock out the littler robots flying after them.
“We’re heavily out maneuvered!” she cried out, looking around and noticing they were dodging a lot of their hits. Her chaos moves weren’t necessarily fast enough to get the targets right away, and Shadow’s gun was running out of ammo.
Click, click, click!
Shadow glanced down at his gun.
“Shoot.”
He threw the gun and a robot’s jet spiraled out of control.
“Ember!”
“Right!”
She exposed the spot on her chest and he gripped the outer, slightly protruding part of the emerald.
She closed her eyes.
“CHAOS CONTROL!”
They were teleported before a huge beam of light from the giant robot was able to melt them out of their immortally…
They were flashed back into existence as Ember fell into his arms, exhausted from the dark, prototype power that dwelt within her.
She breathed heavily as Shadow removed his hand and hoisted her up. “Are you alright?” he looped her hand over his shoulders, another hand to help lift her waist up.
“I just… need a moment to breath.” She admitted, but they heard a strange noise…
“What was that?”
Water noises and engines were heard in the distance…
Then, quickly, Metal Sonic and Chaos swerved around the corner of some ruined buildings. A red light flashed and Shadow looked up.
“Darn!” he threw her up into a bridal style hold, and raced on his skate shoes away while the two of them chased them down.
“Find Eggman!” Shadow shouted.
“What!? I won’t leave you!” she gripped his chest fur…
He glared down, “You want to be of use to me?”
Did… Did he know?
“Then stay alive! And get your job done!”
“B-…But what about-!”
What about you?
He threw her into another alley way, flinging her quickly through the air as she flailed a moment and landed in a garbage disposal.
The two raced by her, focusing on Shadow and not noticing the difference.
She shifted around a moment, before coming up with a banana peel on her head, looking upset.
“…Hmph!” she gripped it and threw it down.
“Yuck! Now,…”
She turned around with a glare, bearing her fangs.
“WHERE’S EGGMAN!?”
Pacing around his base, Eggman looked at the blips on his monitors. “Where’d he go…” he gripped his floating chair… “I’ve only conquered this continent… no big deal! Why send him of all things!?” Eggman shoved the chair away as it swiveled in the air and spun rapidly away.
It regained a neutral hover as Orbot and Cubot continued to cower away from it.
“M-may I suggest… we also call in our own backup?” Orbot lifted a finger up, and then placed his hands together. “There are some lovely mercenaries who would be happy to dispose of-“
Eggman’s rage got the better of him. He soared his fist up into the air, and it came crashing down with a terrifying power against the control board.
It dented the area and he lifted his hand, now quivering from the pain and rubbed his other thumb inside the palm of the hurt hand. “Grr… I’d rather deal with this pest myself…”
“Gosh, that looked painful!” Cubot chirped.
“To what? His hand or his ego..?” Orbot muttered, but the two scattered in fear as a wrench was thrown at them.
“You’ll see… I’ll destroy Shadow, and then next-!” he stomped towards them, making a big scene before something rattled above them.
“…What the-?”
Ember smacked a air vent’s entrance down as it slammed against Eggman’s raised head.
“OFFPH!” he fell backwards as she dropped down, landing on his stomach. “IIIEEEE!!!” he arched forward, hovering his arms up as he stared at the unfamiliar face, but Ember didn’t seem to notice him.
She flicked her tail and hit him down, not feeling anything really and looked around.
“Huh? I thought I heard an evil monologue?”
“T-the… The Boss!” Orbot shivered, his hands quaking up by his mouthpiece.
“Boss..? OH!” she looked under herself. “It was so round! I thought it was just a rug or something!” she jumped up and down.
“OFFPH! OFFPH! OOOOO!” Eggman was like a squishy trampoline, every time she jumped up, she stomped both feet down, smiling giddily.
Finally, she jumped off on the third hop and he gripped his stomach, turning away with tears starting up from under his glasses… only on the far edges could you see a trace of them bundled up by his eyes corners.
“That hurt… you little…” he whimpered out while she dusted herself off.
“You know, those air vents really need some dusting.” She then struck an animalistic pose, showing off her claws as she scraped them against each other in long swipes.
Sparks flew off of them and Cubot ‘ooh’d and ‘aw’d as she did so.
She smirked, “So… you’re robotnik’s grandson? You look a little like him, I’ll give you-“ her smile faded, seeing him rise up and shake his head, then turn around to loom over her.
Her perfect memory triggered and before her wasn’t Eggman anymore… it was Gerald.
“And how do you know my grandfather..?”
Her eyes shook, unable to break out of the vivid memory.
She stepped back.
He looked too much like her former master… how could she ever battle him now?
“Who are you?”
He cocked an eyebrow up.
“I… I’m Ember…” she felt her whole body wanting to obey, falling slowly to her knees, catching herself before she did so.
‘Why… Why am I acting this way? My fidelity… is it this strong?’ she twitched violently every few seconds, unable to figure herself out for a moment.
“Ember..? Ah!” His glasses shone a moment across before he put a finger up to his chin.
“Ember Wolf? The immortal prototype. Yes… I remember reading something about that…”
She suddenly looked up, amazed he knew about her.
But how..?
“I… I thought all records were-?”
“Born as one of the first experiments. First to live, however. You’re embedded with a cursed Emerald, one my great Grandfather found and tried to erase from history… It produces a dark energy from time to time… corrupted and unpure, it’s said to completely envelop you in utter chaos…” He looked up, nodding to himself. “Yesss… I think I understand now. It described you as a companion to Shadow. Someone designed to protect, unless Shadow. You’re primary purpose was to-“
He paused, looking down at her and smiling.
“Say… you would be a fine asset to my cause!”
“What cause?” she glared, almost growling out the words as she bent her head down, trying to will her body out of submission. “To rule and ruin the known world!?”
“…What has the known world done for you?”
Her shook and she felt something sink within her heart.
“Join me… Ember~” he spread his arms out, “You’re… family…”
“My what!?”
Now she was able to push herself off the ground, stepping back as Eggman moved forward, snickering…
“Hohoho… Yes, indeed. Ember. For burning passion and everlasting flames that never burn out of loyal love! This is what your name means… I could teach you about yourself… the many things you possess… the many things you can do…”
He lifted his pointer finger up, winking beneath the glasses before moving closer to her.
Shadows of their silhouettes loomed behind Cubot and Orbot as the two watched the scene. Scarily enough, as Eggman grew closer, his shadow turned more diabolical, and Ember’s began to decrease in size…
“We could make this world anew… the way dear old Grandfather Gerald hoped it would be…”
“S-…Stop talking. You don’t even know him!” she struck her foot hard to the metal floor, a vibration came off of it that stopped Eggman’s eager approach. Her tail swished behind her, readying for a counter…
“Oh? Do I?” he leaned back, his smile growing and curving up across his face. “No sick. No afflictions of any kind. A world without sorrow and hunger… an immortal realm of perfection.” He spread his arms out, stating his grandfather’s ideals as though it were poetry.
“You… weren’t you designed to sustain these ideals?” he raised an pronounced eyebrow up, looking back to her. “I mean… you were designed to protect Shadow, and all other experiments. To keep them doing their jobs… After all…” He put his hands behind his back, leaning forward with an all-knowing look and losing his smile. “Shadow was the cure. You were to deliver the package safe and sound…”
“I…” she gulped, unsure if that really was the meaning behind her life. “I’m a delivery girl?”
“Hmm?” He blinked his eyes, surprised by that. He then leaned his head back and let out a mighty laughter, making her flustered and embarrassed as she growled.
“What’s so funny!?”
“Hoho! I meant that figuratively, my dear. This… wonderland that I’m proposing… it’s what you and the doctor always wanted. Even Maria would have been satisfied…” he outstretched a hand to her. “Join me… it’ll be fun.”
She stared at the hand… remembering how Shadow’s hand outstretched to her but she chose not to take it.
She looked away.
“Come… now… be a good little guard dog.” He smirked wider now, his eyebrows coming down slightly as Cubot and Orbot rushed over to her.
“It is rather fun.” Orbot admitted.
“Well, when you stay on his good side.” Cubot countered.
“Ember…”
She froze.
“What would dear old Grandpappy want..?”
Her shoulders fell slightly…
“My Ember…”
She looked up, eyes filled with purpose and determination.
Shadow races through the barren streets, looking to see Chaos and Metal Sonic have disappeared. “Where is she..?” he mutters to himself, whispering it as a quiet plea it seemed to find her. His head shifted back and forth, “She couldn’t have gone far…” worry seemed almost apparent in his voice as though he wasn’t trying to hide it.
“HYAH!”
“What!?”
He spun around, getting taken down by an unknown enemy.
He tossed and fought through the fog…
Gripping their hands, he held the enemy in a lock in front of him. “Show yourself, you coward!” he spoke through gritted teeth.
As the fog cleared, Ember breathed heavily, matching his power…
His eyes widened, “What..? Ember..?”
“WHOHOHOHO!” Eggman’s eggmobile floated down from the smoke above. “HOHOH-ACK! HOFF, HOGH, HAR!” he coughed from the smog and lifted a foot up, standing in his carrier to hack out the dust that entered his lungs, among other unwanted chemicals…
He wiped his mouth and then sneered down to Shadow. “At least one of you is proving useful! Behold! My great grandfather’s experiments do still remember their purposes!!! To serve me!”
“Ember…” he glared at her, but his eyes looked torn between fighting her or not. “What’s going on? What did he bribe you with?”
“No bribe, simply loyalties.” Eggman took out a handkerchief, blowing into it. “Poor little dear…” he faked sobbing, “All she ever wanted to serve her delightful creators. And now that she has one again, she’s putting everything else aside to serve her dear family~”
“Ember, no!” At the word ‘family’, Shadow’s eyes widened in horror. “He’s lying to you!”
“I’m more of a father than you are a brother. After all, tossing her to the side? Tsk, tsk, tsk.” He shook his head, waving his finger as a scold. “You should know better. Well, Ember knows her place now. Best to serve real family than those who refuse to be so!”
“Ember… you’re better than this!” he pushed back against her power, but she stepped forward and challenged it.
“…I…” he looked a little shaken up, something she wasn’t used to seeing. “I don’t want to hurt you…”
“Heeeeh… too late for that. Ember! Dispose of him! He’s not upholding the measure of his creation!” Eggman rose up again, swiping out his hand in a dictator fashion.
“Roger.” Ember cried out and swung Shadow over herself, causing him to crash down.
“Erk!” he sweated profusely against the new outcome… he rolled into a ball to avoid most of the damage, hitting her away by rushing into her gut in a spin-dash, then uncurling away. “Ember, what is this madness?! Your purpose is to be my companion!”
She turned around, smiling. “No…” She swiped a Chaos attack back at him, but he dodged the air slash…
Still looking torn, his eyes shook as he narrowed his stare at her, unable to bear a glare…
“I was designed to keep you in check. Just in case you failed your purpose and went on the unbeaten path.” She rose her head up.
“And looks like you did…”
“Destroy him!”
“Is this about G.U.N?!”
He dodged another attack as she raced up to swipe her deadly claws at him.
Jumping from building to building, the two began a chase, which Eggman followed willingly, enjoying the spectacle.
“Ember! Don’t do this..!” he cried back, “Chaos Spears!” he swiped his arm and yellow spears of energy mass were created, hovering for a second in the air, remaining still until shooting forth after her.
She raced between them, jumping from left to right, before crossing her arms and then slashing them out to cut the beam in half.
His eyes twitched again, her power was much like his.
Since he was startled and in the air, Ember used this chance to leap up, slamming him down.
“WHOHOHOHO!” Eggman stuck up his nose and showed his mouth creating an ‘o’ as he laughed. “Splendid! She’s proving more useful then you ever were, Shadow!”
As they crashed through old, half-burnt buildings, they finally hit a floor that wasn’t just loose debris, but sturdy enough that it could catch their fall.
She held him down by his neck as he looked up to her, reaching for his power limiters…
“Ember…” He wearily spoke out, straining against her hold. “You leave me no choice… I… I didn’t want to lose you… but …” he began slipping one off, “I can’t lose the world… Maria… I promised to give the world she loved a chance… she she loved it so much…” he was about to get it off before a dainty and gentle hand was placed over his own.
“What?” he looked up, amazed.
Ember smiled lovingly down to him.
“No need…” she stated.
“Brother.”
“Ember..?”
His eyes shook in awe, but she slowly leaned up and off of him.
“I know how to stop Eggman. I gained his trust long enough to at least secure that.”
She winked, flicking her tail.
“Honestly, did you really think I’d get so butt hurt over one little toss?”
She rotated her shoulder, feeling it a bit hurt from the fall and then extended her hand to him, leaning down.
“Let’s defeat him… Together, Shadow.”
He stared for some time, leaning up and then smiling down as he closed his eyes and put his limiters back on.
“I should have known… a double-agent.”
He then looked up with a much kinder expression.
“See? I know my purpose.”
He lifts his hand.
“And what’s that?”
His smile is contagious, and she smiles bigger as well.
“Taking care of my little brother.”
“…Excuse me?”
He looks unamused by that phrase.
“Alright, alright.” She giggles, “Being your helping hand…”
He smiles again, taking her hand with as he’s hoisted up from his spot.
“Then let’s take him down… Sister.”
She squees in delight, crunching her body up tightly and lifting a leg up, glad he finally said it!
“It’s about time!” she exclaimed.
As they came out, they both targeted Eggman’s eggmoblie, holding one another’s hand and remaining close in their leap skyward.
“H-huh!?!?!?” He rears back, moving out of their way. “What’s this!?”
She looks over to see him smiling again, ‘I’m so glad…’ she thinks to herself.
‘He seemed so shaken up when he thought he had to stop me… I’m glad I know my true purpose.’
She then turned back to Eggman, a look of fierce conviction on her face.
‘…To never break his heart…’
After a huge explosion and Shadow and Ember taking down some of Eggman’s forces… Eggman flies home on a half-broken Eggmobile, smoky from hits and his head all crisped up from their Chaos attacks.
He falls onto the floor and starts bashing his huge fists into it. “It’s not fair! It’s not fair! Everything was looking up so well…” Eggman sprayed chibi-tears, whining about his mishap of trusting Ember.
“Sir… if I may…” Orbot hovers over, typing some things into the monitor as Eggman throws his tantrum, kicking and crying, before looking over to the screen.
“Hmm?”
Cubot wipes his tear with a handerchief, “Here, blow.” He instructs lovingly as Eggman turns back, broken down and defeated, and blows his nose into it.
“Yuck! This blows!” Cubot didn’t like the snot on his hand and ended up making a pun as the handerchief stuck to him. He waved his robotic hand frantically around in disgust, “Ahh..ahhh!!!” flying around in despaired distraught before Orbot showed the mercenary group he mentioned beforehand.
“There. Now these are some of our finest allies! You should hire them.” Orbot scanned the screen closer in on the face of their leader…
“Oddly enough, he’s never known defeat. Sound promising, boss?” Orbot turned to look back at him as the screen kept closing in on the main leader…
Eggman sees them,…
Then the leader.
 He smirks with a shine in his glasses…
“They’re perfect. Hehehe…hohoho…WHAHAHAHA!”
End.
SW&tH AU
Roman is a sword for hire, Logan is a run away prince. Logan’s stepfather, the new king orders Roman to find his son so he can eat Logan’s eyes and have his sight back again along with the magic Logan’s doesn’t know he possesses. Roman goes off to find Logan, Logan is almost killed by the Grim Forest. Roman saves him and stops the kings men from taking him away. They encounter a few things and then meet Virgil an assassin and thief (maybe centaur) and Patton a faun. They try to run away but Logan’s stepfather catches up to them and almost kills them before dragging Logan away. Logan has his eyes taken from him and his body covered in ice that Roman melts with a kiss after realising Logan is his long lost friend from before he was cast out. The ice melts and Logan regains his eyes while his stepfather’s new eyes melt in his hand, turning into black goo. Outraged he realises he has to kill Logan to get his sight while Logan prepares to attack his stepfather. Blah blah blah, castle attack, blah, blah, blah, marble statues try to kill Roman, blah, blah, blah Logan kills his father. Happy end with Roman at Logan’s side and the kingdom opening its doors to the Grim Forest where magical creatures come forth from.
Kinda like the old AU, but the back story is different: Roman gets chucked out of the kingdom when he’s 14 because Logan’s father and mother don’t want their son mixing with a peasant boy who’s parents were rouges and killers. Roman ends up in the Grim Forest where he learns how to survive and eventually works his way up to becoming a top notch sword for hire. He’s not an assassin but he’s available to fix problems for paying royalty. He kills people, brings people back, gets things from the forest and is known as the Prince of Blades. His real name is Roman Caldonian, but even he doesn’t really remember the name much. He last saw Logan 20 years ago when the prince was only 9. His entire mission was to stay alive, but when he meets Logan again after so many years, recognising him a few days into their journey, he finds  anew reason to live - keeping Logan alive.
Starts off with Roman being sent off to kill a bunch of innocent people for a king, moves on to Logan’s portion where he’s being detained and trapped after trying to escape from his stepfather. His stepfather needs him alive and old enough (30) for his magic to be strong enough to sustain him for years to come - basically Logan’s eyes are like wine and his father is keeping him and aging him like a fine wine. And who he’s 30 his eyes will have the most power in them that he’s even had and the consumption of the power will make his father super strong. So the first chapter is all about back story and motives. Second chapter is where they meet for the first time; first Logan escapees, then Roman is summoned, then he recognises the tree, then he goes after Logan and detains him before running off with him when the kings men try to get Logan back to the castle. Third chapter is all about the creatures they encounter including a lot of them just talking about their pasts and Roman trying to decipher whether or not Logan is the boy he remembers, also this is the one where the tree fortress is burned down. Fourth chapter is where Deceit is finally mentioned and where they meet Virgil - out hunting for deer - and Patton - chilling in the fairy realm. Chapter five is where Logan finds out why his father wants his eyes, Virgil is wounded and Logan’s eyes are taken. Chapter six is where Roman cries and kisses Logan, the ice melts, Logan’s father tries and fails to consume Logan’s eyes (maybe, not too clear on whether it’ll be this or the first plot line). Chapter seven is where Logan and crew engage the castle in war, and Logan fights his father. Chapter eight is the final one where the crew are almost killed by marble statues, Logan kills his dad, Roman proposes kinda and the kingdom crowns Logan king.
“Let’s just hope for a fairy tale ending, alright?”
Logan Prince of Duhn is a prince on the run. His stepfather, an evil sorcerer, wanting his eyes that can see what others can’t. Logan escaped a tower and castle to get away, and found himself on the shoreline that lay below the castle. There birds brought him to a horse that took him to the dark forest where he hid for the night.
Roman Caldonian is a hunter who continues to get drunk after his son passed away. Logan’s stepfather offers to bring his son back if and only if Rom went into the dark woods to get a prisoner back. Roman agrees and tramps off to the dark forest where he tracks Logan to a large tree where the king’s brother asks for Logan’s return. Roman feels pity and refuses, taking on the king’s soldiers and helping Logan escape further into the woods. Roman keeps close to Logan and teaches him to use a dagger, though Logan says he would never be able to kill someone Roman reminds him that one day he may have to.
At the edge of the forest lies a bridge. The bridge crumples away to reveal the hulking form of a troll, large with grey skin and pulsing blue veins. Roman goes to kill it but Logan stops him, stating that he knows how to deal with this problem before grabbing a few small rocks and setting them out. He trows one up in the air and grabs one as the stone lands back in his palm, continuing this as the troll watches enthralled. Roman sits back, dumbstruck that a simple game is amusing the troll before Logan stops, all the stone collected and the troll backs up, moving away from the bridge and settling down at the edge of the dark forest. Logan gets up and continues with Roman as Roman asks what all that was about.
They make their way to a village built in the trees, surrounded by water like mangroves. Roman is told about Logan’s heritage and he later abandons Logan in the tree village, thinking that he’ll be safer if he’s far away from him. The village is set upon by hunters from the king and Logan sees a glimpse of his old friend Dee, who saves him before the branches of the tree block them off and Logan has to run to safety. Roman turns back and sees the fire blazing behind him. He runs to find Logan but is unable to find the prince as fire ravages the village. A hunter sneaks up on Logan and Roman manages to save him, retreating into the woods as the villagers escape in boats.
Roman and Logan run to a section of the forest much greener than anything before and are captured by a centaur named Virgil who Roman recognises. Virgil is unimpressed but cuts them both down when the hunters near on horseback. Virgil leads them to a grove behind a section of leaves and cavernous caves. The place beyond is called The Court and there Roman and Logan meet with a faun with deer horns and legs called Patton who takes an instant liking to Logan and begins to play his flute for the man. Virgil asks Roman if he’s in it for the gold and Roman says that he’s not sure anymore.
The four spend the night together by the fireside and the next morning they awake to find Logan gone. Panic is their first instinct before Roman sees tracks leading away from them into a secluded part of the grove. Logan awoke to see small birds sitting on a log, flying away from him and twittering quietly as specks of light raced past Logan’s head towards them, hovering with the birds and waiting for Logan to get up. Logan follows them to a pool of water where a black dragon waits, spots of gold dotting its scales and wings with blue eyes that see all. Roman goes to stop Logan but Virgil and Patton pull him back as Logan pats the dragon gently and it pulls back, bowing to him. It unfurls its wings and pulls back up, lifting itself into the sky as the four watch, captivated by the beauty. A knife impales the dragon’s heart and it plummets to the ground as Roman races forward to grab Logan back as the large beast lands inches from his body with a crash, water splashing all over the place and rocks flying in all directions.
The hunters that still live charge into the fray and go after the prince and his entourage. Virgil swings Logan up onto his back and charges off as Roman pulls back, ready to kill those who came after the prince. Dee helps out, shooting down a few hunters while a couple of dwarves help out when the faun calls out to them. Virgil pulls Dee off his horse and Logan stops the centaur before Virgil stomps on his head. Meanwhile Roman faces off agains the king’s brother and wins the fight with the help of Patton who kicks the brother off him where he falls into a ravine and dies.
One of the hunters shoots at Logan and hits Virgil,  impaling his arm before Dee shoots and kills them. Logan tends to Virgil while Patton and Roman rush over and begin to calm the centaur. They realise they can’t stay here even if Virgil is wounded and depart, making their way to the next spot where they can sleep and light a fire. Logan and Dee talk about their childhood and Dee apologises for leaving Logan in the hands of his stepfather. Logan forgives him and they journey onwards until they reach a spot where they can rest. Logan wakes up and follows Dee into the forest where they chat idly about their lives now before Dee proposes to Logan and offers him a ring. Logan takes the ring but declines the proposal, giving Dee the ring back and turning away. Dee offers him the ring regardless, saying that he doesn’t know of anyone who he’d rather marry and that though Logan declined the proposal he’d like him to have the ring. Dee fits it on his finger and Logan goes cold, scrambling back at the ring begins to freeze over his finger, ice moving outwards along his finger and hand until it stops and Logan shivers, ice filling his blood as he lays down and begins to freeze up, unable to move as the ice moves towards his heart. Dee says that he shouldn’t have trusted in friendship or love before dropping to his side. Black butterflies encase Dee and he turns into the king, reaching for Logan’s eyes before Roman and Dee burst onto the scene and the king disappears in a flock of black butterflies.
Dee and Roman mourn the passing and carry Logan back to camp where Virgil stands and they seat Logan atop Virgil’s flank. They walk to Dee’s castle and he give Logan a quick kiss on his forehead before leaving Virgil to carry Logan to a marble slab in the castle where he will be mourned. Roman follows and, in his grief, kisses Logan’s lips saying how he fell for Logan while they journeyed together and saw a light that would be hard to destroy. He leaves and Logan awakens while Dee discusses battle strategies with his father. Logan rises and rallies the troops. The next morning they ride to the castle and with Patton’s flute they bewitch the guards and breach the gates. Logan rides atop his steed, Virgil and Roman at his sides decked in armour and chainmail. Dee rides with his father and the five of them grab Patton, slinging him over Virgil’s back as they ride into the castle grounds.
Roman and Virgil exchange banter as they slay their opponents while Logan forces his way into the castle to kill the king. He meets the king in a room made of white marble, windows on almost every wall and the king standing with his back to the door, looking out a raised window that shows the seascape.
Logan stops before the king as Virgil, Patton, Dee and Roman rush into the hall behind him. The king moves his hand slightly and the marble above cracks into shards of white and large rocks. The group escape mostly unscathed before the shards and rocks begins to form statues, fitting into proper marble statues before white marble swords appear and they attack the group. The group defend themselves but their swords cannot cut through the marble or smash it, so they’re left fighting a loosing battle. The king beckons Logan forward and Logan advances, attempting to kill the king before the king traps him in a headlock and forces him to watch the marble statues attempt to kill his friends.
Logan struggles and fights back, able to loosen the grip the king has and battle away. His sword is taken and he is left defenceless as the king sits atop him and restrains his hands. Logan squirms as the king reaches for his eyes but Logan fishes out his hand and dagger that Roman gave him and impales the king with it, stabbing him through his throat before the king startles back and grabs the dagger, pulling it out and crying in pain as black blood oozes from the wound. His eyes go from blue to milky pale as he struggles to see before they turn black and reduce to ashes as he tries to find his way around. Logan grabs his shoulder and pulls him to a small set of stairs where he lays the man back and rubs a hand over his brow. The marble statues turn to dust and Logan rises from the corpse of his stepfather before smiling softly at the five friends.
The next day he is crowned king and holds a long branch made of gold and bejewelled flowers as a reminder of it all. He joins in the dancing with Roman, albeit begrudgingly and as the night draws to a close Roman leads him off to a balcony where he spills his infatuation with Logan and Logan responds in kind. They share a kiss and hold hands as the story draws to a close.
