One day when I tell a doctor that I have had asthma for 3 decades they’ll say “okay” and stop explaining to me the basics of how the very normal and common asthma medicines and tools work. Or at least ask if I’m familiar with them and not explain anyway when I say yes. One day.

Do y'all know about spacers?
"Every patient treated with a pMDI [an inhaler] should own and regularly use a spacer/VHC, and know how to use it properly, both for routine preventer therapy and in an emergency, and how to keep it clean and keep an eye out for faults."
Tumblr media
It looks like this, a simple plastic tube, your lips go on one end and the inhaler on the other. Very simple to use and it means you aren't just shooting the medicine onto your tongue. You're actually inhaling it!
I have seen some horrors, so here's a PSA to all my homies who have asthma/use inhalers.
I have seen too many people use their inhaler improperly, essentially making the medicine useless, and it makes my own chest hurt just watching it. 🥲
Shake it first before you use it
Exhale as deep as you can before you take the puff, and inhale as deeply as you can while you are pressing down on the canister. A normal shallow breath won't get the medicine in your chest, so it won't do anything to help.
Make sure your lips are closed around the mouthpiece when you take the puff! Treat it like a kazoo or a harmonica. If your lips are not all the way around, some air might escape out the gaps.
After you take the puff, hold your breath for ten seconds if you are able. If not, try for at least 5. It's important to hold the medication in your lungs so it can do its work.
Wait a bit and take deep breaths in between the first and second puff.
I hope this helps. Stay healthy and take care of your lungs! Mucus buildup can be torture sometimes, so we gotta make sure we aren't making things harder for ourselves than we already are. :D

What is Seretide inhaler used for Side Effect
Seretide inhaler is a combination medication used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two active ingredients: fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways, and salmeterol, a long-acting beta-agonist that helps to relax the muscles around the airways,

Thinking about Dew with asthma. Specifically, little Dew with asthma.
Dew playing quietly on the playmat in the common room, content to line up all his toy cars while his plush dragon, Dio, watches on. Swiss is also watching.
Every so often, Dew coughs or clears his throat. Swiss can't figure out if he's just got a tickly cough, or if it's something more. Either something viral, or an asthma attack.
He asks softly "Dew, buddy? Are you okay?"
Dew gives him a toddler cough in return.
"Alrighty, then. You tell me if you start to feel worse."
It's a few more minutes, Dew rearranging his cars by height, occasionally watching the TV. Swiss put on Bluey for him, but Swiss is watching it more than he is.
And then Swiss hears the wheeze.
Just a little crackle in Dew's throat at first. But Swiss' head snaps up nonetheless.
"Dewy? How are we feeling?"
"U-Uhm... 'Eezy..."
"Wheezy, bud?"
"Yeah."
"Do you need your inhaler?"
Swiss already knows the answer. Little Dew does not like his inhaler. But his choices right now are, 1) use the inhaler, or 2) don't use the inhaler and end up in the infirmary.
Swiss reaches under the coffee table and grabs Dew's spacer kit. It's never far from reach when Dew's little. He won't take his inhaler without a spacer when he's little.
He moves onto his knees on the floor, kneeling by Dew. Dew whines at the sight of Swiss setting up his inhaler, but his wheezes are becoming more frequent and his chest is burning a little.
The spacer is clear, with teddy bears printed over it, and a mask on one end.
Swiss wraps his arm around Dew and brings him into his lap. Thankfully, Dew doesn't protest, apart from a little wheezy huff.
"Gonna be a brave little guy for me, huh?" Swiss asks as he clicks the inhaler into place. Dew shakes his head, burying his face against Swiss' chest. "Yeah, I know. You don't like it. But we've gotta do it, buddy. You'll feel super yucky if we don't give you your puffs now."
Dew turns his head from one way to the other, like a baby refusing a bottle as Swiss holds the mask up. Eventually, however, the tight feeling in his chest wins and he lets Swiss hold the mask over his mouth and gives him the first puff.
"Nice slow breaths, bubby. Yeah, that's it, you're doing great. In and out. In and out. Good job..."
Dew looks up at him with big eyes, taking shaky breaths. After a little while, Swiss gives him another puff of his inhaler, his thumb gently rubbing Dew's cheek.
Dew's breathing slows eventually, and then he cuddles into Swiss, tired out after his little eezy episode.

I love that Ice, Mav, and Sli went from having 1 kid to losing said kid to gaining a handful of kids AND grandkids...good thing they have a big house
Exactly!!! Ily Nonny!!! 💜💜💜 Jake comes with five little tagalongs. Sure, most of them are in their twenties, but these kids have never known parental figures that didn't kick the shit out of them or disappoint them — other than Jake of course and Javy’s parents. The first time Joey looks up into the stands at a cheer comp and sees grandparents in the stands cheering for her, she almost starts crying. Bug actually starts crying at her barrel-racing event and she tries to pass it off as being delighted about winning a saddle.
Mack isn't sure how to react when he gets gifted the exact set of super-expensive markers he'd been talking to Ice about saving up for. Gunny is used to being the tallest of the bunch, despite looking like he's made of pipe-cleaners, so when Slider picks him up to dunk him in the pool, he squeaks and sputters in happy surprise.
Ree takes care of people, that's just what he does. He also has a pretty severe case of asthma, he developed it as a teenager and he takes medication every day now. One day he forgets his spacer while coming over for family dinner (the attachment onto his inhaler to hold his medication in place so he can breathe it in easier) and he resigns himself to just going without. Jake is the only one who carries a spare and he won't be by for another couple of hours, he's just about to take his first puff when he gets hit in the chest with... a spacer, flung at him by Mav from across the room.
“Aren’t you supposed to use a spacer to get all the medication, Nurse Seresin? Mav teases and Ree flips him off, a little more teary than he was before. 🫁

Hello! I absolutely love your writings and was wondering if you may be able to write a little fic about Sarah Morgan x reader/main character from starfield? Maybe some kind of hurt/comfort where the MC gets hurt somehow and Sarah comforts them or smth
Hey nonny! I have no idea if you’ll see this but I want to thank you for your super kind words! I apologize this has taken a minute but hopefully you enjoy and that I did Sarah justice since I haven’t written a piece focused on her before.
Pairing: Sarah Morgan/gReader, T rating || ao3
Release
Knees on the ground. Your calloused hands rub at the dirt smudged blood stains and it smears into the grey synthetic threads. Curving up your knee and spreading across your thighs, little chunks of dirt gather in clumps and you push them from one spot to another.
Bodies are stacked all around. Spacer? Ecliptic? Not Crimson Fleet. You know that much. As well as some maybe—civilians or maybe—scientists who were caught in the crossfire. Innocents. Did they have children? Did you kill a mother? A father? Somebody’s sibling? Doesn’t matter. All of them are people.
Rubbing repetitively and vigorously, your eyes sting, tears gathering in the waterline. Your pistol is sitting at your side somewhere.
Ambush.
It was an ambush.
You didnt mean—
You had to—
Your only defense.
The friction on your fingers feels like fire and your chest hurts. Something burns, hot and bright in your side but it doesn’t feel like your side. And you try to remember the events in order. Shouting. Shots fired. Or was it shots first and shouting after? Same time?
A scrambling of spacesuits. Bodies colliding.
Your face in the dirt, cheek smashed into the ground and finger on the trigger.
Barrel against head.
Point and shoot.
You press your dirtied palms to your temples. Smack them once. Twice.
Hands catch your wrists before you can bang them against your head a third time.
“Your bleeding. We need to get you out of here.”
That voice is familiar as it drowns out the ruminations.
“I—”
“No time to argue with me. Save it for after we get you patched up.”
A tug on your wrists and you force yourself to stand on shaking legs. A hand presses into your cheek.
“You’ll be alright,” she says. Coming into focus, her green eyes search yours, brows furrowed together while the wind whips her blonde cropped hair around her jawline. “We need to take shelter before the storm hits.”
You nod and Sarah guides you into the science outpost, getting you out of the storm that will soon be raging. The wind whistles as the door closes behind you. She pulls out a swivel chair from a nearby desk and sits you down in it while you stare at the dirt and blood smeared into your hands. She says something you don’t quite catch as she rummages around nearby. Lifeless eyes flash in your mind and you shut your own, balling your fists in an attempt to shove the vision away.
“This might sting a little.” A press to your side and a sharp pain makes you inhale a deep breath, reminding you that you’re injured.
“Thank you,” you manage to say.
“No need to thank me. You’ve always been there when I’ve needed your help.”
You open your eyes and Sarah carefully unfurls your fingers. She dips a white rag in a bucket of water and gently cleans the blood and dirt off your hand. You wince as the rag bumps over a pebble lodged under your skin.
“Of course I’m always there for you,” you say, her touch grounding you and bringing you back to the present. “Are you—are you hurt?”
“No. You made quite the human shield.” She pulls tweezers from the medkit and works at the pebble. Though she’s gentle, you still hiss with the pain as it’s pulled free. She wipes the wound clean. “Though, why you continue to throw yourself into danger when the opportunity presents itself, I’ll never understand. Do you have a death wish?”
It comes back to you then. After the ambush, you charged forward blindly, refusing to let anyone touch Sarah. So focused on protecting her, you didn’t question anything and now there’s a lot of bodies and even more guilt. You gnaw on your bottom lip. She works at cleaning your hand, sighing.
“And even if I don’t like the way you put yourself in harm’s way—you did well so don’t beat yourself up about it. The spacers wouldn’t have hesitated to kill you or I. They were protecting poachers.”
You breathe in some relief. At least no innocents were killed. They’re still people and their blood is on your hands but it was you and Sarah or them. That guilt won’t turn into regret. You’d burn the world to keep Sarah safe even if it cost bits and pieces of your soul—yourself.
“Sarah,” you start to say but hesitate. You’ve already brought up your feelings for her before and she rejected them. Still, your voice cracks. “I—Constellation needs its leader.”
She stills and steals a glance at you. “Not at the cost of you.” Shoving the rag back into the bucket, she wrings the water, dirt and blood out, her jaw locked tight and lips pursed in a line. “I—I. Oh, nevermind.” She shakes her head. “Lean over a bit. I need to take a look at your side and see how deep that cut is.”
You do as you're told and you can’t remember how it even got there. Someone must’ve had a knife. Doesn’t matter. Your focus is wholly on Sarah now. “What were you going to say?” you ask, refusing to let her shut you out again.
She cleans the wound. “This isn’t too bad. I’m going to add a few butterflies but you’ll probably have a scar.”
Placing the stitches, her thumb grazes your skin gingerly before she glances back up at you. “You should sleep,” she says. “Need help getting to a bunk?”
Thunder shakes the outpost as rain splatters against the windows. “No,” you tell her. “I don’t want to sleep. I want to know what you were going to say.”
Another sigh from her. “It doesn’t matter and you need rest.”
“Sarah.” You tentatively reach for her, brushing your fingers against hers. “It does matter. It matters very much to me.”
Corrosive rain continues to splatter against the windows, the sound of it drowning out the thud of your heartbeat in your chest. She’s not looking at you but your fingers on her own.
“I can’t lose you,” she says softly and you think you’ve misheard her.
“What?”
“You know, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about us, about our relationship… how we’ve clearly become close. And I see what you for me do and I—I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t lose me,” you say, thumbing her skin delicately, afraid she might withdraw. But she allows the touch, surprisingly.
“No one’s ever cared about me this much. Not even Aja. And I realize I care too much for you too. You—you scared me today.”
“Sarah, I—” You choke back the words love you and swallow them down. “I don’t mean to scare you. I just can’t lose you either.”
“I know that,” she says, flipping her hand intertwining her fingers with yours. “Even if I don’t deserve it or understand it.” She squeezes once before letting go. Too soon. Standing and turning away from you she says, “I should find us something to eat. You should rest.” She disappears from the room.
With a heavy sigh, you lean your head against the back of the chair, weary. She’s left before you get the chance to remind her that she deserves all the care in the world. And without Sarah as a distraction, your body reminds you of the fight and injuries you’ve endured and you close your eyes, forcing the tiredness away while you wait for Sarah to return.

Sick Dewdrop having to do albuterol treatments because his lungs get stuffy and inflamed easily, but he doesn’t like the treatments because they give him the shakes so Aether has to sneak attack him with an inhaler that has a spacer and a mask attachment like people have to do with their asthmatic cats. When Dew is less fussy, Aether sets him up with albuterol solution in a nebulizer. Then he holds Dew while he shakes and coughs it out.
