Honestly if you're looking at Doctor Who (2005) as a piece of fiction with, you know, themes and intent, it's really necessary to engage with it as actual queer media. At least a little. I think it's status as a fandom show from the mid 2000s means people are quick to dismiss this as some sort of transformative read rather than something that actually informs the storytelling and characters, but it can not be understated how it's fundamentally part of the same body of work as Cucumber and It's a Sin and Queer as Folk
#i think people also tend to simplify 'queer media' into 'stories about queer people and their romantic relationships'#rather than understanding the way queer artists may engage with that in more nuanced and complicated ways#the way their perspective can and will inform things artistically even if it's a story about straight people (or whatever)#especially when many people just don't consider the specific media landscape a work was made in#(and i don't just feel this way about doctor who. obviously)

Fernie, BC (No. 2)
David Thompson travelled along the Elk River in 1811, and called it the Stag River. James Sinclair's second settlement expedition to the Pacific Northwest from the Red River Colony made a difficult crossing from the Kananaskis River valley into the Columbia–Kootenays via the Elk in 1854. The river was labelled Elk River on John Palliser's 1857–58 map and "Stag or Elk River" on Arrowsmith's 1862 map.
Elko Dam was built by East Kootenay Power Company on the Elk River in 1924. It is a run-of-the-river dam 16 metres (52 ft) tall and 66 metres (217 ft) long. The powerhouse has two Francis turbines producing 12MW of electricity. It is about 16 kilometres (10 mi) upriver from the Elk's confluence with Lake Koocanusa. It is operated by BC Hydro.

pro tip for anyone out there who for some reason *really* wants to lose absolutely massive numbers of hours of their life and especially sleep without even noticing. try modding skyrim. its slow. its hard. but it IS free.
#genuinely have spent. like. 50(?) hours over the past 4 days#getting seasons and a flora mod to play together right. which. sounds insane given how short that list is but.#i have learned a lot of modding terms #i would now feel comfortable manually swapping files Inside a mod or mod patch.#which i may have to do given that the ground in riften isnt swapping out in winter and i *SHOULD* just be able to duplicate the ground-#-texture from the exterior then rename it to the riften winter ground name and load it on top of seasonal landscapes#which. im still a little iffy on the jargon but i think would just be making my own patch.#since its not any other mod overruling (i used more informative console to check) its just Not being overridden by anything In Winter#when i get home from work im gonna learn dyndolod properly and generate terrain and tree LODS#AND. grass caches! for performance but also for LODs :)#(LODs are low-res billboards put in place in distant areas so its not blank space (minecraft eg does not have LODs so the world just ends))#and rn my LOADED area is seasonal. but my distant areas are VANILLA. so the ground is all wrong and in the rift is a wall of yellow trees.#so i need new LODs.#my posts

How was your day? I totally didn't spend mine trying to meticulously map how little Armand could have feasibly made it from Delhi to Venice in the first two decades of the 16th century. And then somehow deleted two hours of notes.
#seeing map after map and article after article on the basics of slave trades between Asia Europe and Africa is making me sick#millions and millions of people whose lives were uprooted and destroyed to be used for war sex or domestic labor#people have always treated other people terribly...#iwtv#armand the vampire#tw slavery#and like it's just backstory for a fic because I get obsessed with details during the research process and I can just wave my hands and say#oops due to his young age and amnesia he can't be sure#but knowing which empires and landscapes he encountered as a child would inform his characterization#but the disgust and sadness this is causing is making it hard for me to stay on track#for a fic that's supposed to focus on...[checks notes] Venetian oil painting#...and this is why it takes me hours to write a few paragraphs of description

Natural Scenes (Where The Crawdads Sing)
I recently finished reading Where The Crawdads Sing and I liked it so much. It just vibed with me in a special way. It was probably all the natural description in the book hehe. Really liked the movie too back when I watched it.
Just!!! Every scene described I was like NATURE!! So here ya go, a bunch of natural scenes. Btw, these are actually pretty small so that's why they don't have a lot of detail. They're little paintings ✨
I made a book review about it on my YouTube channel in case any of you are interested. Yes, I know I've been posting a lot about it but well, what can you do? You can watch while I make these drawings in the vid, check it out if that's your kind of thing.

Jasper National Park, AB (No. 14)
Jasper Forest Park was renamed Jasper National Park in 1930. By 1931, Jasper was accessible by road from Edmonton. In 1940, the scenic Icefields Parkway opened, connecting Jasper to Lake Louise and Banff in Banff National Park.
The first step towards incorporation of Jasper occurred on August 31, 1995, when the Jasper Improvement District was formed from a portion of Improvement District No. 12 (Jasper National Park). The improvement district was subsequently incorporated as a specialized municipality under the name of the Municipality of Jasper on July 20, 2001. The incorporation order established the Jasper townsite as the Town of Jasper and the surrounding balance of the specialized municipality as a rural service area that was deemed equivalent to a municipal district.
The Municipality of Jasper is in the western portion of the province of Alberta within Jasper National Park. It borders the province of British Columbia to the west and Improvement District No. 12 to the north, east, and south. The Athabasca River, which originates from the Columbia Icefield, meanders northward through the municipality. The Miette River, Maligne River, and Snaring River all discharge into the Athabasca River within the Municipality of Jasper's limits.

« I can attest to the idea that tech companies behave nothing like traditional journalism outlets. They’re run by engineers who might as well be wiring your house for cable or fixing your water main for all they care about the quality of information you consume online. »
— Columnist Matt Bai at the Washington Post. (archived)
Good analogy. No matter how good your electrician or plumber may be, would you consider them regular and reliable sources for news outside their professional fields?
Facebook and the others make money by sharing your eyeballs with advertisers – not by providing trustworthy information.
A disproportionate percentage of Republicans get their news primarily from social media. That tells us a lot about how they form their worldviews.
We need to support credible free news media like public broadcasters NPR, the BBC, the CBC, or Australia's ABC.
At one time most people got reasonably accurate news from free media on TV and radio. The internet has scrambled the media landscape – so far in a chaotic way.
People who spend lots of time on free social media are having their views shaped by digital oligarchs who have no interest in accuracy or responsibility. Indeed, some of those oligarchs have political agendas which are self-serving and promote fringe worldviews.
So support for remaining free credible news media is essential as they navigate their way through the changing informational terrain.
For now, question the credibility of dubious items which people tell you about which they see on social media. Successfully debunking something provides you with credibility you can then use to cast doubt on additional dubious items.
