Uhm uh uh...I have no excuse for this 😔 PPG self insert who is secretly an alien! I imagine her intro episode would have her having a little romance with the professor when he comes into a bookstore she works at/owns and the girls being (rightfully, given the prof's dating history) suspicious of her. Wacky capers ensue where they try to prove that she's up to no good, only to find that she genuinely is just chilling and wants to live a normal life on earth!

Well, normal as she can, now that she knows this family! I think she'd fit right in 😉

Imagine the boys getting cursed to bear witness to “some of the most negatively impactful things in their lives” and they’re terrified, thinking it’ll be stuff like the invasion or Shredder or something-

Only to be met with multiple scenarios of their family. Saying offhand, but hurtful things. Doing hurtful things. Lots of scenarios that were inconsequential to everyone but the one most affected.

And they’re all scrambling, desperate to make sure the others don’t look too deep into it haha it doesn’t really bother them- but they all know the truth. Because they’re all in the same position here. It wasn’t on purpose, and they all know it wasn’t on purpose, but it still hurts.

It’s almost a relief, that they’re going through it all together. That they can apologize for mistakes, and accept that they’ve held onto hurt too long when they could have dealt with it sooner.

And that’s how they break the curse, reversing it into something different, as they’re told that before it leaves them for good they’ll bear witness to the most positively impactful things in their lives. And now they think they’ll see some of their best victories, some of their grandest adventures-

The scenes they see then are of the same cloth as their negative ones. Simple scenes, ones that most wouldn’t remember. Times where someone managed to make someone else smile, times where they were just so content to exist by the other’s side, times where they were just happy being there with their brothers, their family.

It’s the little things that go the farthest, because that’s what you experience the most in life. And they’ll mess up again, of course. Things happen, and they’ll never really know how their actions and words will be taken. But through the good and the bad, they’re family.

Besides - turns out, there’s a lot more good.

once again reiterating: i don’t subscribe to the idea that the transformers follow humans conventions of gender. so hearing transmasc doesn’t equate to man confuses him. i wouldn’t even say he has a hard time seperating the two concepts than just… understanding the differences between gender

for him, our existence itself takes time getting used to. he initially has trouble even identifying one human from the other because he’s so unused to our appearances. it’s like seeing a bunch of quintisessions—you’re so off caught by how… Non Cybertronian they are, you don’t really take into account how each one is different individually. yours included </3

fortunately, he gets better! as you two met on your job as the cybertronian-human relations diplomat, he becomes accustomed to your appearance. from your small height (to him, at least), your soft eyes, your… hair (is what other beings of your species had referred to it) to the scrunched up expression you gain as you perform paperwork, your appearance is a sight for sore eyes

“you changed your look,” ratchet comments. you look up from your papers. for once, he isn’t looking at the computer, completely ignoring your existence. instead, his eyes—optics, you correct yourself—are wide, completely caught off guard. staring right at your hair.

you give a hesitant smile, ignoring the fear of judgement coursing through your body. “yeah.” you resist the urge to play with your hair; the new cut disallows you from doing so. “what do you think? do you like it?”

“it’s much shorter than your usual length.” he crosses his arms. “why?”

you bit your lips. you consider making up a reason, to give an excuse but… you clench your fists. you promised yourself you wouldn’t hide. not anymore. that was the purpose of this haircut.

“i’m trans,” you admit. “transmasc, to be specific. despite being afab—assigned female at birth, i don’t follow their standards.” a hand goes to your hair, touching a few strands. his optics follow the direction of your hands. you watch him carefully. “one standard is long hair. so i cut my hair to go against the mold.” you scratch your head. “to better fit my identity.”

there’s a contemplative silence from ratchet’s end. you ignore your desire to run. yet you cannot help but let your eyes stay glued to the floor, transfixed to a particular crack in the ground.

“my opinion on your… haircut, is irrelevant.” you meet his gaze. maybe it was the light but… the neon blue seem oddly gentle. “what matters is if this style reflects your identity.” head tilt. “does it, [name]?”

you smile; you can see pearly whites reflected in his optics. “it does.”

what's your dissertation about? you mentioned it in the siltcord and i'm really interested

oh my god hey I'm so happy you're interested! broad strokes because I've only been working on it for a few weeks but: the current theme is 'resistant landscapes' (both man-made and natural) in the later writing of Shirley Jackson!

Essentially, my main thread is that Jackson had two parallel strands to her work, which as far as I can tell began kind of interrelated but then diverged quite significantly? She's probably best known now for The Haunting of Hill House and to a lesser extent We Have Always Lived In The Castle, which are these. weird surreal psychological horror novels, engaging explicitly or implicitly with the supernatural, and centred around introspective, strange and sometimes deeply misanthropic female characters from isolated social units with dysfunctional, possessive relationships to each other.

Aaaaand then on the other hand she was known for being a 'happy housewife' who wrote these whimsical, quasi-autobiographical stories about all her children and how hopeless her husband was. These were popular too. Betty Friedan called her out in landmark 1963 feminist manifesto The Feminine Mystique for essentially spreading patriarchal propaganda.

The interrelation between the two is really jarring, because in one family is a source of horror and tragedy and in the other it's a source of, like... laundry. And Jackson's home life wasn't everything those stories made it out to be-- her marriage was unfaithful, her mother could probably be fairly called emotionally abusive, and as I talked about on the siltcord, she developed severe agoraphobia which often left her housebound.

So, yeah. My plan is to explore the depiction of families as constructed social units in dialogue with the environments they are constructed in in that work. Obviously a lot of that is relation of house to family, in the context of which Hill House is especially rewarding to consider, but I also want to look at relationships with nature and urban environments (especially in the context of settler colonialism and how that has had an enduring legacy in Jackson's particular part of New England), xenophobia (largely in regard to class, though racism and anti-Semitism are presences in her writing), domesticity and the idea of the housewife, and how horror relates to All Of This. The ideal of making a home within a hostile environment and of that environment turning on you, essentially.

I don't yet have particular areas of focus within that broad umbrella, but I might update with bits and pieces about it as I work? I don't really talk about academic stuff on here but I am very much Critical Literary Analysis Guy and I do also post relentlessly about haunted houses as a concept so if people would be interested in it maybe I will

anyway if you've read this far I recommend Horror in Architecture: The Reanimated Edition (2024) by Joshua Comaroff and Ong Ker-Shing which is a book about how horror movie tropes can be mirrored in built environments! I'm reading it right now and it's conceptually fascinating plus fairlyyy comprehensible by academic standards (if a little dense) if you, like me, are a Fool who knows nothing of architecture. very good also for getting to look at pictures of some of the most Fucked Up Buildings (affectionate) you've ever seen.

a few pages of efri's word-book :) it was originally a fabric-scrap gift from urag in which he carefully wrote and illustrated the kinds of words that seem normal for a kid to start learning to read with. efri dutifully copied all of these out and then immediately went off the deep end with as many syllables as she could find. it quickly became one part learning-to-write exercise to two parts weird diary - you can trace a lot of what she's thinking about in there, and she starts including more little thoughts and notes as she gets more comfortable with writing

Hehehehe ohmygod that is a great question i will now proceed to pick one for each of the guys here it comes:

Bojan: Scyliorhinus canicula (in dutch it translates to dog shark idk the english name)

Very small silly guys, wouldnt hurt a fly and named after a dog!! How fun is that!!! Might be my favorite shark ever and theyre native to the sea that i live next to :) they are so cute and have such pretty patterns. Also one of the few shark species that is not endangered!!!

Kris: thresher shark

Very long and VERY fast guys (i beloeve theyre the fastest species) they sometimes jump out of the water and they can stun their prey with their dramatically long tails by hitting them with it. They also look very goofy and i very much enjoy them they look so startled

Jan: zebra shark

I think these are GORGEOUS they have such a cool shape and such pretty colors. As babies they have zebra like patterns and when they grow into adulthood their pattern becomes more of a leopard print.

Jure: tiger shark

Once again one of my absolute favorite sharks ever. They are very very pretty and they love biting (and eating) into strange objects such as car tires and those cables that lay on the seafloor. They have an incredibly strong jaw, they can bite through turtle shells!! They also have the most adorable faces (i have a tigershark tattooed :))

Nace: great hammerhead

Very mysterious and cool creatures that in certain seasons live in huge families (shivers) they tend to be a little shy little guys (not so little actually they are huge) because of the shape of their head (cephalophoil) they can see almost 360 degrees around them and they actually have better eyes than humans do! I dont know what the little shaping is om their heads but i do love it.

I honestly have to say all of these are in my list of favorites!!!!!!!

:BLUSHYSMILEYCATEMOJI: hehehe well, it is mostly done, it just needs the polishing up for proper posting display with the accompanied drawn diagrams and colour coding (also it's quite old at this point, started working on it a year ago and wanted to work on lore stuff so I put it on hold, so the doodles look kinda bad but oh well alsjdfsdfj). The one main thing I just have to make her Reformed Mordrem minions to display the rest with the little visual diagrams, but I can post what I have done here so far <3 (this is actually the first time I've posted the updated state of this WIP since I last talked about it last year lskjfs. So sorry in advance if some of this seems janky as I haven't gone over it in a hot minute) Note: I also wanna redo the icon thing to be more of an eye instead of the lotus since it makes more sense literally and thematically and to just try to make it look better in general. For context my OC Mourynn/Vallotash (same person kinda) is Mordremoth's (parasitic) Scion in a weird imposter (syndrome) situation (leaving that bit out for now), and her whole thing was inspired by the ??? area in Jahai bluffs with the one quote that inspired her existence "Are you a dragon dreaming that it's a hero? If you were, how would you know?", where the area also matches her colours thematically too, and why her Mesmer abilities all revolve around hallucinations and tapping into the "Dragon of mind/plant, roots/madness, etc." where the spec also evolves slowly over time as she develops, but it does get amped up during LS1 with Scarlet being responsible for kickstarting it (as she brainwashed Mourynn to help cultivate the Dreamthistle into the Toxic Offshoots, and from there with HoT and so on as things got worse and this just evolved into it's own thing, haha). Super abridging explanations (and badly lol) since I feel that part with the Toxic Alliance and those spores were an important step towards this becoming what it is.
