I have two questions!
1) I signed up for a library card a few months ago, but I haven't heard anything back. I've gotten emails from you, but nothing stating I was approved for a library card... what should I do...?
2) I really want to support you and other libraries, however I find rental times to be really restrictive (I'm not a very fast reader 99% perfect of the time. The time I read 4 books in a week was an outlier), would me renting ebooks through libby, but not reading them, be helpful to the library anyway? Or would I be effectively wasting licensing money?
hello! hmm, that is strange - I’m sure you’ve checked your junk mail, so the next thing to do is email [email protected] - that way we can do some cross-checking on our end to see if the account attached to your email went through or if it hit some kind of snag.
As to your second question, there are all sorts of licenses - some are the kind where we own it forever but only one person can read it at a time*, and others are the type where we pay X amount for Y checkouts, or X amount for 1 year and then re-purchase when it runs out. However, there’s literally no way for you to tell which is which as a library user. Generally speaking, I’d say don’t worry about it! high checkout rates are great for us, and we’re never going to know if you finished a book or not. Use your judgement if there’s a really long holds line perhaps, but otherwise, even if you only get to a few chapters, we hope you enjoy them <3
#we also can’t really extend checkout times because of the aforementioned long hold lines#we’re trying to get as many books to as many people as we can#thanks for asking!#queer liberation library#qll#asks#also apologies for the delay in response#lots is happening all the time! we’re trying to catch up with the ask inflow

on the one hand very big stuffed animals fall into the category of things that are very clearly expensive and a luxury and thus make me uncomfortable (I guess I was raised to live humbly a little too well), but on the other hand. damn I need one of those. give it a big hug. i'll always sleep alone but i could have one of those guys instead of being alone-alone y'know.
#i want to buy one in the far future#i imagine even tho they're very expensive for a toy they're probably not like. a printer.#and like when i see them -i think tinakitten has one in her background - u don't think 'what an ostenasious casual show of wealth. wasteful#i just think 'omg aww giant stuffed animal (also wow rich)'.#so like i suppose/hope other ppl think the same way and would not want to guillotine me for having one#i said this#idk what my outflow/inflow will be like in the future but unfortnately a proper clothes shopping trip#costs about this i think so like. obviously i just refrain from buying any new clothes for a few seasons and then bam. big teddy bear.

Do y’all ever think about how absolutely bananas Lake Baikal is? It’s the world’s largest lake by volume. It’s the world’s deepest lake. It’s the world’s oldest lake. It contains nearly a quarter of the planet’s surface freshwater. It’s a rift lake, caused by the earth’s crust literally coming apart at the seams. It would be deeper than the Mariana Trench except the bottom is covered in a sediment layer that is miles deep. There are trains that have sunk to the bottom because Russia tried to build a railroad over the ice. The entire lake surface freezes for half the year. The lake is a focal point of multiple indigenous cultures. The lake has its own species of seal, which is the only exclusively freshwater pinniped in the world. There are unique ice formations formed by convection from the depths of the lake. There are 330 inflowing rivers.
I dunno, Lake Baikal sure is a thing.

Exploring FDI Inflows by Indian States
Exploring Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Inflows by Indian States
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a significant role in driving economic growth and development in countries around the world. In India, FDI inflows contribute to job creation, technology transfer, infrastructure development, and overall economic prosperity. While FDI inflows at the national level are often highlighted, exploring FDI trends at the state level provides valuable insights into regional economic dynamics and investment opportunities.
1. Overview of FDI in India:
FDI refers to investments made by foreign entities in Indian companies or projects, resulting in a lasting interest and significant control over the invested entity.
India has been attracting increasing FDI inflows across various sectors, including manufacturing, services, real estate, and infrastructure, driven by economic reforms, liberalization policies, and favorable investment climate.
The Government of India has implemented several initiatives to promote FDI, such as the "Make in India" campaign, easing of FDI regulations, and improving business environment and infrastructure.
2. Importance of State-level FDI Data:
While national-level FDI data provides an overall picture of foreign investment in India, analyzing FDI inflows at the state level offers insights into regional disparities, investment patterns, and sectoral preferences.
Understanding state-level FDI trends helps policymakers, investors, and businesses identify opportunities, address challenges, and formulate targeted strategies to attract investment and foster economic growth in specific regions.
3. Key Factors Influencing State-level FDI Inflows:
Economic Potential: States with strong economic fundamentals, including robust infrastructure, skilled labor force, market size, and business-friendly policies, tend to attract higher FDI inflows.
Sectoral Strengths: States specializing in sectors such as IT/ITeS, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy are likely to receive significant FDI investments based on their comparative advantages.
Policy Environment: States with transparent and investor-friendly policies, efficient regulatory framework, ease of doing business, and incentives for investors are more attractive destinations for FDI.
Infrastructure Development: Adequate infrastructure, including transportation, power, logistics, and connectivity, is crucial for attracting FDI and supporting business operations.
4. Analysis of State-level FDI Data:
Analyzing state-wise FDI inflows enables stakeholders to identify leading and emerging investment destinations, sectoral preferences, and investment trends over time.
States such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu have historically been major recipients of FDI due to their strong industrial base, infrastructure, and business environment.
Emerging states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are also attracting increasing FDI inflows, driven by sector-specific initiatives, infrastructure development, and proactive investment promotion strategies.
5. Policy Implications and Way Forward:
Policymakers need to focus on enhancing the investment climate, infrastructure development, skill development, and sector-specific incentives to attract FDI in less developed states and regions.
Strengthening inter-state cooperation, knowledge sharing, and best practices exchange can facilitate learning and replication of successful investment promotion strategies.
Continued efforts to improve ease of doing business, streamline regulatory processes, and address bureaucratic hurdles are essential to enhance India's attractiveness as an investment destination at both national and state levels.
In conclusion, exploring FDI inflows by Indian states offers valuable insights into regional economic dynamics, investment opportunities, and policy implications. By leveraging state-level FDI data, policymakers, investors, and businesses can formulate targeted strategies to promote investment, foster economic development, and achieve sustainable growth across different regions of India.

In this month’s interview with Cory Fleck of KER, we discussed the recent significant rebound in Bitcoin’s price following a drop post-ETF approvals. We covered recent data on ETF inflows, comparing that to the current mining rates, and explored the connection to the upcoming #Bitcoin halving in April, which occurs every four years. We also touched on the implications of the halving on Bitcoin miners and other cryptocurrencies.

Sanitary Maintenance Hole Sealing
Sanitary maintenance hole sealing, also known as manhole sealing, is the process of closing up any gaps or cracks in these underground structures to prevent the inflow of stormwater and groundwater. This infiltration of clean water can overload the sanitary sewer system, leading to overflows, blockages, and environmental damage.

Record Inflows into Bitcoin ETFs Mark Positive Sentiment in Cryptocurrency Market
According to data from prominent cryptocurrency journalist Colin Wu, on February 9, 2024, there was a remarkable surge in funds flowing into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), totaling $541 million. This figure represented an all-time high, excluding the inaugural trading day. Positive trends have now persisted for 11 consecutive days, signaling growing confidence in the market. Wu highlighted that on the same day, the outflow from the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) ETF reached a record low of $51.81 million. This dip marked the lowest point since the transition of the trust into a spot ETF. Additionally, researchers from BitMEX Research shared insights into the cryptocurrency landscape, noting a net inflow of $541.5 million into Bitcoin ETFs. Analysts underscored another significant development: the first observed outflow from non-GBTC ETFs. Invesco's BTCO experienced a withdrawal of $17.4 million, contrasting with Blackrock's IBIT, which led with an influx of $250.7 million. Fidelity's FBTC recorded $188.4 million, while Ark Invest's ARKB achieved its highest single-day inflow of $136.5 million. The research team highlighted that the total net inflow into Bitcoin ETFs amounted to 11,388 coins, with GBTC seeing an outflow of 1089 BTC. As of February 10, 2024, Bitcoin's price remained steady around $47,350, with a market capitalization of $927.19 billion and daily trading volumes reaching $288.19 billion. Bitcoin's market dominance surpassed 52.1%. The Fear & Greed Index remained at 74 out of 100, indicating positive sentiments prevailing among market participants. The Fear & Greed Index serves as a crucial gauge for market sentiment and emotional dynamics, analyzing factors such as price movements, trading volumes, volatility, and social media sentiment. Its role is pivotal in assessing investor and trader attitudes, whether driven by fear or greed, toward Bitcoin's current market conditions. Read the full article

2024 Crypto Market Unveiled: Decoding Trends from Bitcoin to the Integration of Artificial Intelligence
The Binance report on the crypto market's transformation in 2023 foretells a promising outlook for 2024, marked by Bitcoin's resurgence driven by Ordinals, spot ETF approvals, and the upcoming 2024 halving. This resurgence signals a pivotal innovation in the crypto space, with Ordinals and BRC-20s introducing the deployment and transfer of fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network. Spot ETF approvals contribute to mainstream acknowledgment of Bitcoin's legitimacy, hinting at a potential substantial liquidity inflow.
Looking ahead to 2024, the Bitcoin narrative continues to take center stage, with pending SEC decisions poised to influence market dynamics. The historical resilience of the crypto market post-halving, coupled with recent spot ETF approvals and optimism surrounding the April halving, sets the stage for significant market volatility.
Another noteworthy theme for 2024 is the rise of ownership economy applications, powered by blockchain technology. Decentralized initiatives like DePin and DeSoc gained traction in 2023, empowering users to reclaim control over personal data and creative content. The success of Friend.tech in decentralizing social media exemplifies the potential for users to monetize creations without centralized limitations.

drives me crazy when I see tiktoks or youtube shorts or whatever of people who churn out knitted sweaters by the handful bc it’s so obvious that they’re doing every adjustment they can to the pattern to make it a faster knit (loose knit, thick needles, chunky yarn, and ALWAYS cropped) but then I go and do the exact same thing when I knit socks so how different are we really. hypocrite? me? always <3
#the one difference ig is that my techniques keep the socks functional for me#I make them shorter than you’re supposed to bc I like them shorter etc#what I need from a sock is for it to be at least a centimetre longer than my boots to prevent chafing#and to be nice and thick#which is what I make#do I need more of the thin but slower worked socks? absolutely. and I’ll get to that. one day#but cropped knitted sweaters? they make me SEETHE every time I see one#I KNOW they’re doing it to skip the boring part of working up the appropriate length once you’re done with the shoulders#it’s annoying as hell to do! I know!#but cropped sweaters are soooooo useless to me#I know they’re trendy but I’m grumpy#how’s that thing keeping you warm huh. you’ve got air inflow from every angle (from the belly and through ALL OF THE REST OF YOUR LOOSE KNIT#)#there are HOLES in your SWEATER
