It has been some time since Thor has gathered his wits around him, rather than feel the pain of continuous death lodged in his limbs.

Starts as an Infinity War fix-it and gets fluffy once our two leads get to know each other.

Chapters alternate between Darcy's and Bucky's POV. I borrowed the title from the Weakerthans song of the same name. It gives me 'recovering Bucky' vibes.

The question was entirely reasonable, Tony supposed, but being the one expected to answer it was like an infinity gauntlet punch to the gut. (Now there was a unit of measurement he could submit to the CGPM.)

Or: In a billion-to-one cosmic fluke, Tony and Peter both survive the snap and are left alone on Titan with an alien spaceship and no plan in sight. Summary: While on a mission to find any more possible super soldiers that were a part of the Winter Soldier program, Steve and Bucky make a discovery in an abandoned HYDRA base that was cleared out a few years prior to their mission. They discover the Reader, a long-forgotten soldier that was still asleep within a functioning cryostasis pod; still awaiting orders. While Bucky isn't happy about it, he is put up to the challenge of helping to rehabilitate the soldier in Wakanda where she may be able to become a person again.

A collection of ALL my solarballs fics, all 44 (and counting) of them! I don't even know how I wrote most of these in a month; most of these fics are part of the same universe, an alternate universe heavily relying a lot more on fantastical lore and complex characteristics of each character rather than scientific accuracy. In the aftermath of the Moon Revolution, Saturn's moons return to their planet and back to their old lives. However, one insult against Titan goes too far, and he finally lets all his feelings over being their main punching bag out in the open.

(A/N: This fic and the next two fics are canon divergent from the episode "Saturn Gets His Moons Back!" But The Moon Club will still happen, although Europa and Ganymede will be included.)

Galileo Figaro

Following Titan leaving his orbit after a spat with his fellow moons, he ends up in Jupiter's orbit talking to familiar faces, who end up, surprisingly, sympathizing with his situation.

Moon-Eater

Saturn uses his power to give his moons a stern talk and a fair warning about the consequences if they ever take things with Titan further than normal. Titan finally gets an apology from one of the moons.

Mars, God of War

Even Mars once had an ocean on its surface. Even the red planet was given the chance to shelter life before it led to its destruction.

(A/N: No longer canon! This one-shot is a what-if conspiracy theory is true, thus I wrote it.)

Take On Me

A collection of moments in time covering Mars and Earth's very tumultuous relationship. Includes copious amounts of codependency and pining from both sides as they struggle to pretend they're not at their wit's end.

I Need Someone To Remember Me

Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars talk about the planets they've lost during one of the rare times they hang out. Surprisingly, they're acting civilized for once; as civilized as they can be.

You Didn't Know?

Planet X returns to the solar system, not only to gloat at how he is still alive but also to enact the first part of his revenge: to tear Jupiter and Saturn apart with the only promise Saturn had broken.

MASTERLIST OF THE STORY

Chapter 57: Endgame.

“Alright, it's time. Bring them back.” Steve told Bruce. It had been two minutes and a half since they killed Loki and Y/N and they were getting impatient.

Bruce nodded and signaled for Natasha to grab the defibrillator to shock Y/N as he prepared himself to shock Loki.

“Alright, on three Nat.” He said and the redhead nodded and looked at her friends limp body, frowning in concentration. “One, two, three!”

Suddenly, a gasping Y/N and Loki jumped quickly into a sitting position.

“Are you guys okay?!” Bruce asked them both, frantic, as he was trying to check both their vitals at the same time.

They both looked at each other and nodded.

“We are okay.” She told him, calming her breathing.

That's when she felt something materializing in her hand. She looked down and found the dagger of death, with some runes carved into it that weren't there before.

“You got it.” Loki told her.

“I did.” She laughed incredulously. Then she remembered how she got it and frowned unnoticed by the team, except for Loki, who noticed it and looked at her with question in his eyes. A second later, she sobered up. “Alright guys, the whole dying thing has me quite tired. Could we go to get some rest?”

“Y-yeah.” Steve answered her. “Of course.”

“Are you sure you're okay?” Natasha asked her again, unsure.

“Yeah, I'm fine. Just really tired.”

“Alright, go rest guys. We will take care of the dagger.”

They both nodded and got up from the beds to head to their room.

“Y/N,” Loki began as soon as she closed the door to their shared quarters.

“Yeah?” She wasn't looking at him and that's what made him sure that something was wrong.

“What was her condition?” He asked knowingly.

Y/N took in a sharp breath.

“Sigyn's soul.” He lifted his chin and nodded.

She went to the end of the bed and sat down, looking at the floor.

“Am I a terrible person Loki?”

“You are not, my love.”

“But I… I agreed because in a way I want her to suffer. How can you justify that?”

“Y/N,” he grabbed her hand, “she killed your family. She then proceeded to lie to you and infiltrate this new family that you found with the intention of killing you and eventually ruling over the universe with a position that is yours to have.” She chuckled breathily.

“When you put it like that…”

“Y/N…”

“It just hurts, you know? When I stop to think about it, it hurts. And I don't want to hurt her, not really, past my rage, I'm just hurt… But I… I need to hurt her to end this.”

“I know, darling. I know.” He said as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her into his chest. “You are the last person who should go through this.”

“Yet here we are.”

“Here we are.” He agreed.

“I love you Loki. And I'm really scared.”

“I love you too.” He told her and then breathed in deeply. “And everything will be alright. I promise you.”

“Y/N, wake up!”

“Loki? What-” She was cut off by a loud explosion echoing a few floors down.

“She's here.” She widened her eyes.

“F.R.I.D.A.Y where is the team?”

“The garden miss.”

She got up from the bed and began running with him towards the rest of the team.

When they both reached them she saw the scene that was unfolding with a knot in her stomach. Sigyn was there with her whole army of enhanced soldiers, smiling wickedly as she looked at Y/N.

“Steve! The dagger!” She told him.

Captain America looked at her and shook his head.

“What?” She whispered.

“You mean this dagger?” Sigyn's voice answered for him. She looked at her and found the dagger in her hands. “You were really going to kill me, little sister? That is harsh.”

Y/N clenched her teeth and put herself in a defensive stance, prepared for a fight. The goddess laughed loudly.

“You really think you stand a chance without this?”

“I guess we'll have to find out.”

“Very well, whatever you wish.” She signaled for her army to prepare themselves and soon enough, the garden was a battlefield.

“We can't win this fight! We need a plan, Cap.” Clint said in his earpiece.

“I'm thinking!” He responded as he was trying to catch his breath in between throwing his shield around and knocking out a few of them, only for them to get back up again.

“This is like fighting an army of Y/Ns and Wandas, how the hell are we going to do this?” Sam asked, worried.

Meanwhile, Y/N was looking at Sigyn, flying over them and smiling maliciously, knowing that she was winning.

“The mind flayer.” Y/N whispered with wide eyes.

“What?” Clint asked.

“They all have…” She grunted.

“Y/N!” Steve shouted. “Y/N!”

“I'm… fine.” She said as she got up from the floor after getting hit as Loki helped her. “They all have a part of her power. It's like a hive mind. We need to kill the mind that has control.”

“How are we gonna do that when she has the only weapon that can kill her?”

“Make sure you're distracting her army… and let me handle her.”

“Y/N, no!”

“Please Tony, this is my fight.”

“No, it's ours.” He told her. “Go, we'll keep them occupied.”

She smiled softly.

“Darling,” she looked at him expecting resistance but was met with a soft look. “Be careful. I love you.”

“I will. I love you too.”

And just like that, she was flying over every one of them, heading towards her sister.

“I thought you were smarter than this.”

“Yeah well, you overestimated me.” Sigyn smirked. Then she prepared her hands for combat and Y/N did the same.

Blasting her magic towards the goddess, she grunted when she missed and was in return hit with Sigyns magic.

“You stand no chance against me.”

“You keep saying that.” She blasted her magic and this time she didn't miss. Sigyn almost fell to the floor. “Are you trying to convince yourself?”

“Ha!” She laughed. “I know you are trying to distract me. You are not good at this, Y/N.”

“Oh, but I am.” She told her as she disappeared into thin air and appeared behind her, kicking her back and making her fall to the floor this time.

“An illusion? That is cheap, even for you.”

“You've always been a sore loser.” Y/N shook her head and landed on her feet gracefully.

Sigyn got up and faced her, but couldn't stand for much longer as another blast of magic hit her. And another, and another.

When she managed to get up, she strutted towards Y/N with an expression so livid it made her question what person she had let into her life for these past two years.

Sigyn kicked her in the ribs and she fell on her back, wheezing. When she approached her again, Y/N kicked the back of her legs and made her fall on her back.

For a bit, they kept throwing punches and blasting magic at the other.

“Alright, time to distract her.” She said into her earpiece.

“On it.” Sam said and began shooting at her from the sky.

“These mindless mortals!” Sigyn groaned, more annoyed than anything else.

Perfect, Y/N thought.

“Sam, keep her occupied, I need to get the dagger.” She looked at Loki. “Loki, love, could I borrow your favorite dagger?”

“I- yes, darling.” He said, narrowing his eyes at her, confused.

“Thanks.” She said and then she closed her eyes and concentrated on conjuring the dagger she had given Loki a few years back, when they had not confessed their love yet.

Meanwhile, Sigyn was trying to blast Sam with her magic and he was dodging her attempts. Until he wasn't anymore.

“Sam!” Y/N yelled as her friend fell from the sky. “Someone get him!” She cried.

“Another one on the list of dead loved ones?”

Y/N clenched her teeth and looked at her. That's when she heard Wanda speak on the earpiece.

“He's okay, just hurt.” Relieve flooded her in waves and she looked at Sigyn with so much rage she could've killed her right then and there.

“You are not going to win this Sigyn.”

“Oh, but I already have.” She said, gesturing around her, at the avengers fighting and getting more tired by the second.

Y/N looked at them, they wouldn't be able to hold on for much longer. She closed her eyes and concentrated in summoning her magic. Then she opened them and looked at her sister.

“I swear to you, you are going to regret this.” She said strutting towards her with a set jaw.

Y/N hit her again and again, while Sigyn did the same. The ones around them couldn't tell who was winning, which worried them. Sigyn, on the other hand, was sure that she was.

“Keep hitting me all you want, you know that it won't kill me. I on the other hand-” Y/N hit her on her stomach. “I can kill you.”

“I dare you to try.”

“Oh, I will.” Sigyn pulled out the dagger and began throwing jabs at Y/N. She dodged most of them, except for a few scratches here and there.

Y/N kicked the goddess onto the floor and the dagger went flying in the air, falling a few meters away.

Rolling on the ground and grunting, they were both trying to fight off the other and grab the knife.

Suddenly, an explosion rang out behind her, where everyone else was, and she turned briefly, ignoring the screams from her teammates. Then, everything turned into a slow motion movie. Screams could be heard, but only as echoes.

“Look down, sister.” Sigyn's voice sounded distant but she did as told.

“Y/N!” Loki's voice rang out as she found the dagger dunked in her stomach. “Y/N!” He kept screaming, trying to get to her, but the soldiers wouldn't let him.

She turned around slowly and looked at him. At her love, her everything. She looked around, the broken and tired faces of her family, the reason she was alive. Her life flashed before her eyes, every moment that led her to where she was now. She then looked up and begged for a miracle to happen. Turning to him, she whispered:

“I love you, Loki. Forever.” And then she fell to the ground, limp.

“No!” He wailed, his voice shattered.

“I told you she did not stand a chance against me.” Sigyn said, standing up.

“I'm going to kill you.” Natasha said, full of rage and grief.

“Ha!” The goddess laughed. “I don't think any of you understand what just happened. Y/N was your only chance, and she's dead. So now, kneel before your new queen!”

When no one did as told, still standing and prepared for a fight, she groaned and looked up at the sky in annoyance.

“I said, kn-” She choked on her own words as blood began pouring out of her mouth. She looked down to see a red stain on her stomach, growing bigger by the second.

“I told you… I'd win.” Y/N told her between small gasps as Sigyn fell to the floor.

“How did you…” She tried to ask.

“I switched the daggers. You stabbed me with Loki's dagger and I… stabbed you with the dagger of death.” Sigyn began coughing. “I want you to know…” She looked at the goddess, her sister, the one she had spent every day with ever since she appeared on the compound claiming that she was not who she thought she was. In many ways, Sigyn changed her for the better, in other many, many ways, she did not. She looked at her sister and remembered every night spent reading together, singing silly songs, watching scary movies just to see her terrified face when a jumpscare happened. She looked at her sister and couldnt find it in herself to care. So her next words, she said them very slowly. “I want you to know… that this is for my family.” And she stabbed her again, in her heart.

“I-Im sorry.” Sigyn said slowly, in a hushed whisper, as she was dying.

“I don't forgive you.”

And after coughing a few times, her body laid limp on the grass. When it did, the soldiers began slowly falling too. Then, Y/N's vision began to blur, the adrenaline wearing out and her wound beginning to cause its effects.

Before she fell to the ground, someone caught her.

Note: Hi, I have been wanting to write this story idea for so long and I was waiting for Doctor Strange 2 to come out so I can see how Wanda was with the Darkhold corrupting her and I’m so happy with how they portrayed her. She reeked power and I was here for it. Although, I am sad they didn’t bring Sophie Turners Jean Grey/Phoenix in because that would have been one hell of a fight. So I’m gonna corporate the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix in this story because the Phoenix is one of my favorite characters in the comics and X-Men movies & just the idea of Wanda and the host coming together/fighting is very intriguing to me. I’m gonna try not to make this so so long because I’m still working on my Spider-Man prequel series but I’m feeling a lot of inspiration for this. Summary: In the wake of their victory in Wakanda, Steve made a momentous decision: He ditched his alter ego, handed over the shield to Sam and went on an extensive road trip to clear his mind. What could have been an overdue adventure for someone who missed out on a lot, is in fact an evasive manoeuvre. Because not only did Steve leave behind Captain America but also Bucky, his ex-boyfriend from the past, and Tony, his ex-boyfriend from the present.

But every journey comes to an end and when Steve finally returns to New York he discovers that things have changed quite a lot in his absence, and not necessarily to Steve's liking.

How you found yourself in the medical wing of Stark Tower, you couldn’t say. The events that led to this moment were honestly a bit blurry.

You’ve been an Avenger since Hydra’s defeat, and even now, a year after the Defeat of Thanos at Wakanda and Titan, you have never seen this part of the medical floor. You heard rumors, that Steve’s best friend, the one and only James Buchanan Barnes was found in cryo-freeze following the defeat of Hydra. And that’s where the current problem lay.

Once Tony was in a better mental state and forgave Bucky for the things he had no control over as the Winter Soldier, he had started trying to help Bucky in any way he could. A few years later, with the help of Shuri, they erased the trigger words, but still, Bucky didn’t wake up. Suspended. Frozen in time. Stuck.

Steve never would admit it out loud but seeing his friend unable to wake up was slowly killing him inside. In a world of Soulmates, some doctors hypothesized that it would only be Bucky’s soulmate that could wake him. You found that a little ridiculous, but Steve, usually hand in hand with his own soulmate, Sharon, kept hope that maybe that would be the key to saving Bucky. Touch was very important to soulmates, as everyone was born with small collections of freckles where you would touch your soulmate for the first time. Some people had their entire hands lit up in freckles, yourself included. Which sucked since you could never be sure that anyone you shook hands with was your soulmate. Some were unique, such as your friend who had her mark of freckles on her butt cheek.

Now you found yourself in the dark, chilly back corner of the medical wing. On a dare. It was another Stark party, but you played Truth or Dare with the newer recruits. As the drinks kept flowing, it became clear that was a mistake. You were a little tipsy and stumbling upon the one floor with all the dangerous chemicals seemed like a fantastic idea.

Shivering chills running up your body as you walked deeper through the floor. “’Just go explore the West part of the Medical wing where we keep frozen soldiers,’ they said. ‘It’ll be fun,’ they said,” You grumbled, using your phone as a flashlight as you moved deeper into a newer, and much colder room. You froze - ha, pun – the light shining upon the clear tank in front of you. “No fucking way,” you moved closer to get a better look, but sure enough, there was James Barnes, a small sheen of ice covering the glass. Despite that, he was shirtless, leading you to see his soul mark. A palm print of freckles on his chest, directly over his heart. Well, that’s cliché.

“Well that would explain the theory,” you shrugged, deciding it probably be best if you left before you did some damage to something important. You stumbled a bit towards the door, quickly grabbing onto the nearby desk for support. In the process, you also pressed a big green button. “Well fuck.”

Smoke started to pour from the chamber as the glass covering lifted. You yelped, trying to move away again, you definitely fucked up. A soft sire made you jump, the Avengers downstairs no doubt being alerted.

As the glass finished ascending, the chamber beeped, making you jump in a yelp. You tripped again over the wiring surround the chamber, this time falling towards the now open chamber. As time slowed and you tumbled, your only thought was “Well, Steve’s gonna kill me.”

Your hand fell onto Bucky’s chest, and you finally found your balance. Well, not really. It was the still cold arm around your waist that caught your balance. Wait, that wasn’t right.

You looked up slowly, confused. Just to see an equally confused – and awake!!!! – James Barnes staring down at you. “Where … am I?” His voice was raspy, your new focus being that voice instead of the now multiple sirens going off – along with the Kill Bill sirens going off in your head. Oh God, he was awake. Oh God, you woke him up.

You yelped, jumping backward as your brain finally connected with your body. This can’t be happening. No. This shouldn’t be happening. Fight or flight response started to kick in your head, making you do a very stupid yet the only thing you could think about since you stood absolutely no chance fighting against him. Run.

He tripped after you, managing to grab onto your wrist before you could run off too far. You screeched, absolutely terrified. No one quite knew what he would be like when he woke up. For all the medical team’s troubles, he might still wake up as the Winter Soldier and not Bucky. You had fought against the Soldier in the fall of Hydra, and you weren’t looking for a repeat.

You thrashed in his arms as he pulled you against him, trying to escape. “Don’t chase me! Let me go!” You kept squirming, but even with his metal arm deactivated and only one – now very warm – arm around you, the super-soldier was much stronger than you.

“Oh god, I wasn’t chasing you!!! It was dark, and I was scared please stop screaming. I just woke up please-“ The former assassin was rambling, mind a little too scrambled to respond correctly.

He did, however, let you go, just as you stopped screaming. “Do… do you know who you are?” you tried in a soft voice, still on edge. Where the fuck was Mr. Star Spangled Ass?

“Bucky… My name was Bucky,” he whispered softly, now looking down at his chest where his mark had deepened in color to darker freckles, easily shown on his light skin.

Your eyes widened, looking down at your hand, your own freckles became more pronounced as well. “Holy shit,” you mumbled, just as Steve and Tony burst through the door, making you both jump.

It's not always convenient to be a relationship, so sometimes Jane and Thor have to make sacrifices. I love reading about Thor fully embracing Earth customs, particularly social media, which opal KNOWS is one of my weaknesses. | 5k

Five Times Thor Gets His Shirt Off FOR GREAT JUSTICE And One Time He Doesn’t by shinyopals: Sometimes Thor’s armour is more useful when not being worn by him. He definitely doesn’t end up in these situations on purpose. Rec: Please bury me in every single five times fic shinyopals has written. This one might be my absolute favorite. So many fantastic interactions for Thor, not just with Fosterson (which is BEYOND perfect), but the whole team. Plus: naked Thor fighting bad guys in an apron. Also the SamSteve is so strong and I’m in love. | 9.8k

The Reconstruction of the Mind by Niobium: Jane Foster’s introduction to astronomy doesn’t start with a backyard telescope or a shooting star or the arm of the Milky Way strewn across the nighttime sky, but with an Alexandrine woman named Hypatia. Rec: Jane-centric, and very well done, as per usual with this author. Fosterson is more background, but they have some lovely moments. | 4.6k

Asgardian Cautionary Tales for Young Maidens by Niobium: Jane discovers that Asgardian love stories aren’t exactly romcoms. Rec: Jane and Thor sharing love stories. I audibly squeaked at their cuteness. | 2.3k

Rec: Jane and Thor bond over the stars, and Jane doesn’t take it sitting down when the Bifrost breaks. Love the simplicity and the power in this. | 1k

There by Barkour: Jane has found Thor and in the finding, she has gone somewhere she’d never dreamed she’d see. Rec: Jane geeking out over Asgard, plus some really cute banter, and Thor being a gent as always. | 1.9k

Numbers and Lines by Sheeana: Jane Foster visits Avengers headquarters to help install a program she designed, and gets caught up in helping with their latest problem. Rec: Jane and Natasha get some great action together, and the Fosterson is handled well. | 4.9k

Important Meals of the Day by hariboo: or alternatively: Five Breakfasts With Jane and Thor and them feeding their family and friends. Which sometimes lately seem to be the same thing. Rec: domestics! Fluff that makes me want to stay there forever! I love this author’s way of writing fosterson. Also Darcy is so great in this. | 6.2k

Fire in the East by Maat: He finds that there are sweeter things than mead and glory and the fierce bright colors and rich textures of Asgard. Rec: Best Thor-being-on-Earth-longer fic that I’ve read. Short, poignant, sweet, and painful. This is beautifully written and left me wishing this was how the canon story could have gone down. | 1.1k

Few So Generous by galaxysoup: After Odin falls into the Odinsleep, Frigga takes up her husband’s spear and the rule of Asgard. Rec: Jane and Thor from an outside perspective, and a different version of events. Though the focus is not on fosterson outright, it is still a very good fic. | 2.7k

we fall like stars by jadeddiva: All that is left of him now is the extra chair pulled up to her makeshift fire pit, which she never sits in and hasn’t had the heart to move. Jane, and the search for Thor and a greater understanding of herself. Rec: A character study of Jane and how Thor affected her life. Lovely and poignant. Fluid writing style. | 3.1k

Not "Functional” or “Elegant” by Niobium: Jane Foster has worked some bad jobs in her career; working with Stark Industries’ R&D is a vast improvement. Rec: Jane-centric, and gives her a great backstory. She and Thor are adorable as always. The author clearly respects Jane as a scientist, so that shows through a lot, which is amazing. | 1.6k

Jane Foster’s High School Reunion by Niobium: Jane Foster has a high school reunion to go to. Rec: Jane and Thor are adorable. Thor is a gentleman, and Jane gets to laugh in the face of a jerk. Very satisfying. | 5k

Nature and Nurture by nayanroo: What’s better than solving a physics problem that may well get you another Nobel Prize nomination? Having a baby on the same day. Summary: While on a mission to find any more possible super soldiers that were a part of the Winter Soldier program, Steve and Bucky make a discovery in an abandoned HYDRA base that was cleared out a few years prior to their mission. Shuri sighed as she watched the soldier from behind the glass of the lab doors. The soldier hadn't moved since Shuri and Bucky had left her by herself; simply sitting at the table where her empty bowl of Isidudu sat. The soldier seemed emotionless, simply staring ahead as if she was waiting for orders, and Shuri knew that in a way, she was.

While Shuri knew that HYDRA was a terrible organization, especially when she first treated Bucky, but she never anticipated it to be bad in this way. If Shuri could scrub her mind of the images of the dreams of memories about the torture the soldier endured during her time at HYDRA, Shuri would trade all the vibranium in the world to do so.

The sexual torture, the flagellation until the ground colored itself red and her vision tunneled, the drowning in disguise as training, burning her skin before peeling away the burnt flesh...it was no surprise that the soldier was simply a conditioned tool.

How could a person continue to be human when subjected to such animalistic torture?

It made Shuri angry and determined. While Shuri felt guilt for the soldier being able to remember such horrible things, she knew that it was needed. It was needed for the soldier to understand that she was more than what HYDRA made her and what they had done was not right.

In a way, Shuri hoped that the pain would somehow remind the Isithunzi that she was, in fact, human; that while she was a super soldier, she was still capable of being a human and she was still capable of bleeding and pain and that was okay.

Of course, it was easier said than done and there was a ton of work that needed to be done to get the soldier to that point. However, Shuri was determined to see this through.

She just wasn't sure if her method was truly humane. Was it right to manipulate the soldier in the way that she was? Nevertheless, Shuri knew that her intentions were good; would it even pay off in the end? Would the soldier still hold herself to completing the mission even after everything had been made clear and she could make that assumption on her own?

Shuri jolted when Bucky greeted her, making the princess hold a hand to her chest as Bucky stared at her with a raised and amused eyebrow.

"My goodness, don't scare me like that, colonizer!"

"Downgraded back to colonizer, I see."

Bucky joked gently, and though he wore a gentle smile on his face, Shuri could see the exhaustion on his face.

"You never upgraded."

She replied sassily, and Bucky snorted. At the sound of his laughter, Shuri chuckled as well before she sighed and looked back into the lab at the empty-looking soldier. Bucky carefully watched Shuri's face, observing as a slight shadow came across her features, and he pointed out to her.

"You look like you've got something on your mind."

Shuri pursed her lips slightly, wondering if she should open up her mind to the White Wolf before she allowed her shoulders to fall slightly.

"I cannot get the images of what they did to her out of my mind. I am certain that there is more than what we have seen...but it...it's horrific. There is just no other way to describe it."

Shur swallowed thickly, her voice quieting softly as Bucky listened intently; his gaze slowly turning back to the empty woman within the lab.

"My soul hurts for her. I know she is supposed to be our enemy right now...but all I see is another victim of HYDRA and their horrible, horrible ways."

Shuri shook her head, crossing her arms and glancing down at the ground.

"I am a scientist. I dabble with technology and science in hopes that I discover something new that may help to advance human knowledge and create a better world...because I enjoy this. I enjoy being able to discover and to change and to experiment. It is within my blood..."

Her voice trailed off, and Shuri shook her head.

"When my father was killed, I felt such unfathomable sadness and rage...but to be forced to lose ones self...their memories, their hopes, and their dreams...it must truly feel like death."

Bucky didn't know what to respond with. He continued to stare at the woman before he whispered softly, shaking his head before Bucky looked over at Shuri again.

"She's not our enemy...because you're right. She's another victim who was stripped of her whole entire identity and humanity because of an organization that wanted to further their cause no matter the cost."

Bucky bit his lip slightly as he began to think of what he wanted to say next, and he was thankful that Shuri was patient enough to let him think before Bucky settled.

"It's hard to want to help her because its like being placed in front of a mirror...it's one thing to be it and another to see it. Every time that I look at her, I just see me...I see what I was forced to do...forced to endure, and it makes me angry all over again."

Bucky swallowed thickly, whispering with a slight shake to his voice.

"I know that she can't control her own thoughts and actions because of the brainwashing...and that's what makes it hard."

Bucky gazed hard and long at the woman, and he was almost forced into silence when the soldier glanced over at him. They held eye contact, even as he began to speak again.

"When she told me that I was her mission...I was afraid. I was afraid that somehow HYDRA was going to burst through the doors and take me back...and I still feel that way...and I'm conflicted because I know it's not her fault...it's just easier to blame the next closest thing."

Shuri was quiet for a moment before whispering.

"Do not blame the one who is forced to lie with someone else's sins. She is lost and broken...just like you were. She needs salvation...she needs someone to reach down into those waters she is trapped beneath instead of pushing her down further."

"How can you be confident that I won't push her down either?"

Bucky didn't want to look at Shuri because he could already feel the disappointed stare, and he almost winced when Shuri clicked her tongue disapprovingly.

"You have come too far to become that person you were before. You are free...but she is not. She is still chained by and to what they have done, and if there is someone that can help her, it is you."

Shuri placed her hand upon Bucky's shoulder, emphasizing her words carefully.

"You can show her that you are more than just the Fist of HYDRA and she can be too, but it is up to you to take that first step, James Barnes....she can't make that decision for herself...not yet."

Bucky couldn't help but to whisper.

"I'm afraid of hurting her somehow...more than she will hurt herself when she realizes what she's done in the name of HYDRA."

"Then you must promise to keep her safe...to be kind to her just like we showed you. She is your cub now, White Wolf. Please protect her...from HYDRA and herself."

The lab doors opened, and Shuri gestured with a nod of her head silently. Bucky nodded, and he walked into the lab. The soldier had looked away from him, staring forward again, and Bucky swallowed thickly before he hesitantly asked.

Her eyes flicked to life for a moment, her fists clenching slightly, and Bucky sat down before her, asking her with a raised brow as he observed her down to the last detail.

"When you said that I was your mission, what did you mean?"

The soldier's body language displayed her annoyance to the question. Her head tilted slightly, face screwing up into a nonchalant sneer before looked at him with a frown, stating as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"You are my mission."

Bucky couldn't help the frustration that went through him, taking a calming deep breath before he asked.

"I understand, but what I would like to know is what your mission is exactly? Why does HYDRA want me back?"

Soldiers were never supposed to question mission objectives. They were only meant to receive orders and deliver results, and so the soldier could not provide him with a good answer. However, that didn't mean she didn't mull over the thoughts quietly to herself.

"You are not authorized to know."

Bucky pursed his lips and he replied with furrowed brows.

"Given that I'm the one you're after, I think that I should know why."

The soldier frowned before she looked away from Bucky. There was a perplexed look on her face, almost as if she was confused, and Bucky almost gave up until the soldier asked in a quiet voice.

"...Before...you stated...you stated your name as James...did HYDRA...did they give you...that name?"

Bucky couldn't help the surprise that crossed his face from the question. Tilting his head slightly, he pursed his lips before he shook his head.

"No, HYDRA didn't give me that name. It's the name that I was born with...that my mother and father gave me."

She asked further, her gaze unable to meet his own as she nervously drummed her fingers against her knee.

"What did you mean when you said that you left?"

Bucky shrugged slightly, stating.

"Exactly that: I left HYDRA after I began to remember who I was before HYDRA kidnapped me."

The soldier became distressed slightly, a haunted expression coming across her face, and she whispered in a panic.

"I...I...Flaws Detected. Reprogramming required...!"

Tears welled up in her eyes, and Bucky was perturbed. He reached out a hand to comfort the soldier, but the soldier flinched and jumped back from him. The chair skid across the ground, creating sparks from the sheer intensity of the glide, and Bucky carefully stood up.

"Easy, призрак. I'm not going to hurt you. I want to help you, okay? I need you to allow me to help you."

Her eyes flickered slightly, a tear falling down her cheek, and she braced herself against the far wall.

"Нет! Нет! Не понимаю...не понимаю что происходит."

Bucky held his hands up carefully, calling firmly.

Her breathing was erratic, refusing to look at him, but Bucky could see her ears pricking up to focus on his words.

Her eyes slowly looked over to him, her pupils pin-points in an ocean of terrified (e/c) waves, and Bucky whispered softly.

"I'm not upset that you are questioning these things...that you are asking questions at all. My intention is not to hurt you. See?"

Bucky spun slowly, lifting his shirt to show that he wasn't hiding a gun or knives, and her eyes flicked to his arm. Bucky hummed, shaking his head.

"Can't exactly fix that."

The soldier glanced back at his eyes, and she whispered shakily.

"I...I don't understand what is happening...you are my mission...my orders were to take you to Gützkow...but...but you are being..."

She couldn't seem to find the correct word, but it didn't matter. Not only did she just reveal where Rollins possibly was, but she was starting to recognize and feel things outside of the programming.

To Bucky, it was a good thing.

"Because I need you to know that I am not the enemy...surely you know that...deep down somewhere in that head of yours, you know that we're not the bad guys. You're remembering things...seeing memories of the things that HYDRA made you do and what they did to you."

Bucky was inching closer to her, his words becoming firm as he reassured her.

"We're not going to take those away from you...and we aren't going to punish you for that. We want you to remember...we want you to see that you are more than just a Winter Soldier."

"This does not help my mission."

Bucky was then put into a dilemma. Did he lie and try to manipulate her into thinking that it did, or did he be honest and risk retriggering her programming? Clenching his fists, Bucky closed his eyes for a moment before clenching his jaw. Taking a leap, Bucky replied.

"No, it doesn't. What we talk about doesn't help you in completing your mission...but understanding why they want you to complete it could help."

The soldier's lip was trembling, and she was desperately trying not to cry. The sight made Bucky feel horrible, but then the soldier slowly slid down the wall until she was huddled in the corner. She whispered softly.

"I...I dream...of a woman...who looks like I do...она красивая."

Bucky carefully lowered himself down to the ground, sitting across from the soldier as he asked her carefully.

"Do you know who this woman is?"

The soldier clutched her knees to her chest, hiding her face as she whispered.

"I don't know. Her face...is my face...but she is pretty...and wears a coat like the scientists that...come to see me do."

Bucky nodded, and he pressed further, giving the soldier a patient look.

"Does she have a name?"

The soldier didn't answer for a moment. Instead, she began to chew on her lip to the point she began to bleed heavily. Bucky moved to grab a cloth to hand to the soldier when he paused at the sound of her whispering voice.

"Да. Да, она делает."

Bucky glanced back at the soldier, and the soldier was looking at him; a desperate look within her eyes as she asked with a small and anxious voice.

"Will...will you...will you punish me?"

Although Bucky had understood her to be asking if he was going to punish her for remembering, he couldn't help but wonder if she was actually asking him to hurt her.

"What? No, of course not."

"Why? I am...flawed. My programming is malfunctioning, and I am...I am vile. I am an abomination. I am nothing if I cannot complete my mission."

Bucky became assertive, shaking his head as he refuted her words; a feeling of anger and disdain beginning to grow within his chest as he watched the woman become torn and confused and afraid.

"You are not any of those things. That's what HYDRA made you believe, but you are more than that. You don't have to follow their orders. You don't have to keep trying to prove your worth. You are more than the missions and the orders and the punishments. You can be free. Do you understand?"

The soldier shook her head, and Bucky sighed heavily, his shoulders collapsing for a moment before he stood and grabbed a cloth from a random desk within the lab. The soldier watched before flinching slightly as Bucky knelt before her, and he slowly held the cloth out for her.

"You don't have to follow HYDRA's orders. You can do what you want to do...like I have."

"I do not know how to be free. It is not in my programming."

She was clutching onto the cloth now, her expression anxious and hesitant, and Bucky gently held her hand within his flesh one. The soldier's eyes looked startled by the feeling of his hand on hers, and he affirmed.

"Yes, you do. Somewhere, deep down, you have always known that you could be free...HYDRA just didn't like that...they tried so hard to wipe that part of you...to rid you of the pretty woman in the labcoat because they knew that she knew this wasn't right. What they were doing wasn't okay."

The soldier wasn't sure what to say, pausing for a long moment before she asked in the ghost of a whisper.

"May I...have...a beverage?"

Bucky blinked in surprise before he nodded and stood up. The soldier did not move from her spot on the floor, and she watched him like a hawk as Bucky grabbed a random and clean beaker before pouring water into it.

Walking to the soldier, he handed it to her, and she immediately snatched the glass to gulp it down. Bucky was almost started by her behavior before he sighed. She must have been extremely thirsty. Hell, in all the time that the soldier had been here, Bucky hadn't seen her drink anything at all.

"I will be back soon."

The soldier paused before she began to drink again, and Bucky took that as affirmation that she had heard him. Walking out of the lab, Shuri was waiting with a proud smile on her face.

"See? That was not so hard?"

"That's what you think."

Now that he was out of sight from the Soldier, Bucky could feel the disdain and anger for HYDRA taking over. His metal arm whirred; plates shifting to reinforce the arm as he clenched his fist, and Bucky sneered out as his chest constricted and his mind began to fog slightly.

"When we go after Rollins, I want to be the one to engage."

"I won't stop you, but I also didn't hear you tell me this either."

Shuri winked before the two of them began to walk to the throne room within the Citadel where T'Challa and Okoye were waiting. T'Challa, Shuri, and Okoye all greeted each other before the king asked.

"Did you make more progress?"

"Yes! White Wolf, tell my brother what you were able to discover."

Bucky nodded slightly before explaining, crossing his arms as his brow furrowed.

"The soldier was supposed to take me to Gützkow, which I'm guessing is where Rollins is. Not only that, but she's starting to remember bits and pieces of her past. She wouldn't tell me what her name was though."

"I will inform the Avengers of our discovery, and we will leave as quickly as possible."

Okoye then asked, tilting her head.

"What about the soldier? She cannot be left on her own."

Shuri shrugged, saying.

"I am capable of watching over her. She has not exhibited hostile behavior as of yet, and with how much progress we have been making, I don't foresee her being an issue."

T'Challa looked uncomfortable, but he was unsure of voicing his concerns. Shuri was a stubborn woman, and it would be no use to try to refute her. Instead, T'Challa turned to Bucky, gesturing.

"We should prepare for this mission while we inform the Avengers of our discovery."

Bucky nodded before he pulled out his phone to call Steve, T'Challa discreetly turning his head slightly to listen from over his shoulder as Bucky greeted his old friend.

"Hey, Buck, anything new?"

"Yeah, I was able to get through a bit to the soldier. Found out that she's supposed to deliver me to Gützkow, Germany."

Steve hummed, praising the man.

"Good work, Buck. I'll let the rest of the Avengers know."

Bucky could feel his throat close up slightly, and he wondered if he should tell Steve to let him handle Rollins. However, Bucky wasn't sure if he should say anything. His head was full of images, of the things that he wanted to do to Rollins, and he clenched his fist. Steve asked slowly.

"What's going on, Bucky?"

"I want to kill him, Steve."

Steve hesitated, unsure of what to say, and he simply stated.

"I know that you do, but he's going to pay for what he did. I promise you that."

Bucky shook his head, taking a deep and calming breath. His chest was becoming too tight. His breathing was becoming irregular. His mind was fogging, and he said quietly.

"It won't be enough."

"I know. But you need to keep a level head about this. If I have to sit you out, I will."

Bucky couldn't help the annoyance that filled him, but the man understood where Steve was coming from. If Bucky wasn't careful, he could royally fuck up the mission beyond repair. Shaking his head, Bucky rubbed his hand against his face as if to wipe away the distress that he was feeling.

"She told me that she dreams of a woman who wears her face and a labcoat...she knows that she has a name, but she wouldn't tell me what it was."

Steve hummed thoughtfully, and Bucky could hear Natasha reply in the background with a thoughtful tone.

"She's probably protective of her name because she's so worried that she's going to be punished for remembering."

"You mean being wiped?"

Natasha hummed in agreement, and Steve sighed slightly.

"I'll let Tony know about the new development with Rollins. I'm pretty sure he's with Peter and Dr. Banner in the lab right now."

Bucky asked with a quirked eyebrow.

"Is he planning on bringing the kid?"

"I'm not sure. I think they're currently working on a new suit for him."

Bucky just stayed quiet for a moment before he replied.

"She also mentioned that there were flaws detected and that she required programming. I never experienced anything like that, so I think that HYDRA implemented some type of system that forces her to alert her Handler when there are issues with the programming."

Natasha muttered with annoyance.

"So, there's not even a real chance for her to be able to hide when she starts to remember things. HYDRA gets the alert, and they start all over again without even needing to lift a finger."

"Exactly. The important thing is that she is remembering and is slowly starting to realize that we're not her enemies and we're not going to punish her for remembering things and thinking and acting on her own volition."

Bucky then added as he slipped on some fingerless gloves.

"I don't think she meant to reveal to me where she was supposed to deliver me...but I'm taking it as a good sign."

"I'm right there with you on that one. Natasha's been translating the book for me-"

Natasha cut him off with a playful tone.

"-teaching him, but he sucks at rolling his r's-"

"-anyway, with the knowledge that they had to regularly wipe her more than they did with you, I think there's a part of her that remained untouched by the programming that kept breaking out-"

"-They weren't sure how to erase that part, and so they installed that safeguard system to alert them when she began to remember too much."

It made complete sense, Bucky had to admit. Shaking his head, Bucky stated.

"What matters now is that we know where Rollins might be."

"Right. Once we inform Tony, I think the best thing would be for all of us to meet in Gützkow and go from there."

Bucky nodded, and the two men bid farewells. Bucky glanced at T'Challa, who had been waiting patiently and listening in. The King was looking at him with a knowing look, making Bucky raise a brow at him in question.

"What?"

"You're not going to wait for them, are you?"

Bucky pursed his lips, looking away from the king. His shoulders dropped slightly, and T'Challa shook his head slightly.

"Your anger is justified, but do not let it cloud your judgement. This man will get what is coming to him, I will assure you of that."

"It's hard."

Bucky admitted, and T'Challa nodded, activating his Black Panther suit and giving the man a gentle look.

Bucky wouldn't argue with that at all. As he had thought to himself before: it was an entirely different perspective to be on the outside just as it was to be on the inside. Bucky glanced at T'Challa, and the King nodded to him quietly.

"Let's get a move on. The sooner, the better."

Bucky shoved a magazine into his rifle roughly, nodding with a determine gait.

"Right."

STORY NOTES: Shuri is observing the soldier from outside the lab, lost within her thoughts. She reflects on the torture that the soldier was subjected to by HYDRA, revealing how upset she is by what she has seen. She becomes determined to rehabilitate the soldier, and when Bucky startles Shuri, Shuri opens up to Bucky about the way she is feeling about the situation. Bucky reveals that he thinks it is hard to help the soldier and to rehabilitate her because how much of himself he sees in the woman. He also reveals that he is still afraid of HYDRA and somehow falling back into their hands. Shuri tells Bucky that he cannot blame the soldier for what HYDRA did to him and expresses how unfair it is to do so.

After speaking to Shuri, Bucky goes into the lab to make contact with the soldier and asks her to elaborate on what her mission is. After some resistance, the soldier switches the conversation back to Bucky, asking him about his name and how he obtained it and what he meant when he said he 'left' HYDRA. Bucky answers the soldier truthfully, and when the soldier ruminates on his answer, her programming suddenly kicks in. The soldier reveals to Bucky that there is a flaw within her program, and Bucky tries to comfort the soldier by showing her that he is not going to hurt her. The soldier begins to panic when she is unable to understand what is happening, and Bucky becomes assertive with the soldier to get her to calm down.

The soldier then reveals that her mission was to bring him to Gützkow, Germany, and that she does not understand why Bucky is being kind to her, though she is unable to find the correct word to use. Bucky then tries to make the soldier understand that HYDRA is the bad guy and that she doesn't have to keep answering to the organization nor honor their orders. When the soldier states that talking to her in such a way doesn't help her with her mission, Bucky is honest with her that it doesn't serve a real purpose. However, he implies that understanding why HYDRA wants her to do these things could help. The soldier then reveals to Bucky that she dreams of a woman who wears her face, and though Bucky tries to get the soldier to reveal more information, the soldier becomes reluctant in fear that he will punish her for remembering.

After a few more exchanges, the soldier asks for water, and after she is given a glass, Bucky leaves the lab to tell Shuri and T'Challa what he has learned. He reveals to Shuri that he wants to be the one to interrogate Rollins when the Avengers find him, but Shuri does not confirm nor deny his request. Bucky then calls Steve to tell him the news, and it's revealed that Natasha is also listening in.

After a few exchanges, Steve reveals that Natasha has been translating and reading digital cans of the black book to him, which reveals that HYDRA was continuously unsuccessful in completely wiping the soldier of her memories and so they installed a fail-safe system to force the soldier to alert them when she begins to remember too much so they can begin reprogramming. Afterwards, T'Challa and Bucky have a conversation where T'Challa warns Bucky against acting upon his anger and tells him that Jack Rollins will answer for his crimes. Deciding that the sooner they could start the mission, the better, Bucky and T'Challa begin their journey to Gützkow, Germany. End Scene.

Chapter 54: The plan.

Loki and Y/N looked at each other and nodded. Then they entered the cell.

“Hi Sarah.” Y/N said.

“Y/N,” Sarah seemed surprised to see her. “What… What are you doing here?”

“You were right. About Sigyn.”

“How did you-”

“It doesn't matter.” She cut her off. “What matters is what you know.”

“I don't know that much…” Sarah said, clearly lying.

“Sarah… Ingrid. I know you are scared, not only for you but for your son. I promise you, we will protect the both of you. But you need to help us, otherwise we won't be able to.”

The woman seemed to ponder about it for a few moments before she sighed and opened her mouth to speak.

“Before I say anything, where is Jeremiah?”

“He's with us, we are all taking care of him. He is alright, just misses his mother.” Sarah seemed to be saddened at that. “Maybe we can bring him here tomorrow, for a little visit.”

“Thank you.” Y/N's expression softened.

“No problem.”

Sarah sighed.

“The person who first contacted my parents about the organization was her. Everything was her. The thing is… she needed a face. And she offered my parents enough money to make it worth it. That happened when I was about four or five.” Loki and Y/N listened attentively. “Ever since I can remember she has been saying that one day she was going to do it.” She looked at Y/N. “One day she was going to get rid of her ungrateful sister, her undeserving sister. Of course I only found out that the sister was you when you came into this universe.”

“So, you've known the whole time who I was?” Y/N asked her.

“Yes.” She looked guilty. “It was all part of the plan. Befriend you, then betray you. Make her look like the hero when she attempted to sacrifice herself to fight us.”

“So, she never got hurt?”

“It was all an illusion.”

Y/N felt her heart sink. She had done it on purpose, she made her worry on purpose. She had listened to everything she said and didn't even care. She was a two-faced liar.

“Darling?”

“I'm fine.” She shook her head. “I just can't… believe it. I mean, I do believe it but I just can't believe it.”

He grabbed her hand and squeezed, and she smiled softly at him. Then he got closer to her ear.

“It is not your fault.” He said in a low voice, so only she would hear. Y/N pursed her lips and nodded.

“So how…is she planning to get rid of her sister?” She asked, biting her lip nervously after.

“All the enhanced individuals, she's planning to use them for war.”

“But we already rescued them and the workers all left or died.”

“No Y/N, the workers are the enhanced individuals, they are the ones with a part of her powers, the people you rescued were just people caught in the crossfire. And they didn't leave, they just pretended they did.”

“So she has an army of enhanced individuals who have the power of Sigyn of Asgard. Great, just fantastic.” She said sarcastically.

“You need to kill her.”

“What?!” She widened her eyes. “No, I just… we will just imprison her.”

“She will never stop, you need to kill her.” Sarah told her. “You need to use the dagger of death. You have to kill a god.”

In 1936, Steve’s mother, Sarah Rogers, dies of tuberculosis while confined to a sanatorium after contracting the disease from her job as a nurse in a TB ward. In 2014, Steve’s boyfriend, Tony Stark, contracts the flu and quarantines himself in their room, refusing to be seen until he’s presentable and not a contagious, feverish snot-monster. Steve is worried but understanding as he tries to allay his own fears about Tony’s condition. It’s the future, after all. Modern medicine has made many advances in disease management. But then on a video call with Cap, stuffed up and miserable, Tony rather dramatically declares he’s on death’s doorstep. Needless to say, Steve Rogers, the unflappable Captain America, loses his shit.
