TRICE FORGOTTEN IS THE BEST PODCAST EVER PROBABLY

so the hyperfixation hit hard (and for good reason) because trice forgotten is engaging and fascinating and absolutely wonderful. i figured i’d copy my official review on itunes, because it says everything better than i could, were i to rewrite it:

If you like queer found family narratives, scientific and nautical tales, and period pieces, this podcast is for you. (And even if you don’t, give it a listen anyways—it might surprise you!)

Trice Forgotten is one of my favorite podcasts of all time (if not my absolute favorite). As a science nerd who also likes history and wants to be a writer someday, the Below Decks episodes were absolutely fascinating. They add so much depth (haha) to the plot of the story, as well providing fascinating context for the historical settings.

Nemo Martin is such a skilled and hard-working writer, and it’s clear that the rest of the crew working on the podcast gave their very best. The sound design and music are excellent, as they set the scene(s) really well. Every part of the podcast was crafted with love and care, and you can see the level of skill and passion shine through in every detail.

From a story standpoint, I adore this podcast. I’m deeply attached to each and every one of the main crew (Siva and Noor being my absolute favorites). I was continually impressed by how Nemo and the other writers developed characters in a consistent and entertaining way while not sacrificing the plot—and in only 10 episodes! As a character-driven writer, that’s something I aspire to in my own works.

I could ramble on forever about this podcast, but all I have left to say is that it will forever have a special place in my heart. Trice Forgotten, I will never forget you! :)

Welly Boots — this song is for Baker (tied to Alestes obviously aha) Even though their situation is a little different, i just think that this song.... yeah :')

Inkpot Gods — Noor. i just. have feelings, okay? cool, cool cool cool.

The Horror and the Wild — Alestes. I don't need to elaborate.

Blossoms — this one is for Anh, methinks.

Not Yet/ Love Run — Inez. now, i know what you're thinking. or, well, i rather don't know what you're thinking BUT hear me out: vibes. (i had to chose between this and Secret Worlds, but i feel i don't know enough about Inez yet to give 'em that song)

Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious — okay, okay. i know this is a stretch, but... Siva. why? you may ask? one, because i wanted to assign him a song and none of the others were quite right, and two, because i am projecting.

Inspired by @zeus-japonicus BTS bias Trice Forgotten list and the fact that Inez’ song is Key’s Gasoline, I have taken it upon me to make:

Holy shit that was one intense finale! I am desperately hoping we get a second season, because I really want to see the fallout of everything that's happened, both in terms of them freaking burning down the governor's mansion, as well as how crew dynamics might shift now that Siva's finally expressed how badly everyone's treatment of him makes him feel. And of course I want to know if Alestes is going to be okay, though I am absolutely in love with them coming full circle and Baker bringing her back to Elizabeth again~

Also I just really enjoy these characters and I'm not ready to say goodbye to them just yet!

I feel like Siva’s would be gift giving and words of affirmation. Baker and Noor have acts of service and/or quality time. I think Alestes is physical touch and words of affirmation. Inez might also have words of affirmation? Anh’ is just threatening and sword fighting.

What are each characters love languages?

Hmm - I really, really like this question, and i think I'm going to choose not to answer it, so you can sit and ponder it with me. i have enjoyed trying to type up my thoughts for a couple of hours, and so I hope you enjoy the mental image of the crew finding ways of loving each other with me.

trice forgotten high school au:

alestes and anh are seniors & competing for the same scholarship. FULL academic rivals going on. they savor the look on the other’s face when they get a 100 almost more than the 100 itself.

baker is the librarian, and also still alestes’s adopted dad. she prefers to do most of her studying in the library because of this.

baker has also roped alestes into a after-school study group plan with these two other high schoolers, a freshman (siva) and sophomore (noor). technically alestes is supposed to be mentoring them but in reality it’s mostly noor teaching siva calculus and siva teaching noor biology while alestes ignores them.

inez de luna transferred to this school in senior year, which makes him an automatic outsider, not that she seems to care about the rest of the student body either. noor manages to befriend them, though—they take pottery club together—and inez starts dropping in on the study group to cause (fun! harmless!) mayhem. baker is deeply unimpressed.

gammon? who’s gammon?

sike i’m pretty sure gammon is one of those incredibly toxic teachers or school counselors who both alestes and anh are unhealthily attached to (in the “if he’s disappointed in me i will go punch a wall and commit arson” kind of way). he’s convinced both of them that the scholarship is Necessary For Their Futures and (especially in alestes’s case) they deserve it. he sucks. anyway

william is just some white professor guy who visits the library sometimes and keeps trying to recruit siva into an advanced-track biology program. which siva thinks is really cool, but it would take up all of his day, and he definitely wouldn’t have time to see baker or noor or alestes anymore…

NOOR (STR/WIS/CHA) - Luffy / Wreck it Ralph

SIVA (DEX/CON/INT) - Wei Wuxian / Merlin

ELIZABETH (INT/WIS/CHA) - Mob / Katara

INEZ (STR/DEX/WIS) - Vegeta / Shego

It's actually funny going back and reading this - I think Siva was going to be more like Inez, Inez was more like Anh, and Elizabeth was too much like Baker...
