As weird as it sounds, you recall a world that was the same as this one but different. There were things known as ‘Gates’ and inside them are ‘Dungeons’ filled with all types of beasts and monsters that bring mankind harm. To counter that, there are awakened individuals known as ‘Hunters’ that would go into these Dungeons to defeat the boss and prevent an outbreak. That was the gist of it.

Now there was nothing. When you told your parents about it, they told you that you were dreaming too hard and that you needed to wake up. 

So how could you not feel the chill when the newly transferred student entered the classroom? Somehow you were able to recognize him. In your dream, he was the strongest Hunter, from the bottom to the top, he was famed for his strength and will to protect. Yet most remember him as the one-man army because of his ability to command shadow beasts and monsters. 

While the class teacher gave the former strongest Hunter the time to introduce himself, you already recalled his name like an echo to his introduction. “Sung Jinwoo.”

Over the next few days, Jinwoo was the topic of discussion for many people, both students and teachers. The girls were fonding over his coolness and smart nature, as he was top of his class like you were though you relied on your former knowledge and mentality. The boys were envious of the attention he was getting and his seemingly handsome appearance. The teachers praised him for his academic results and athletic talent. There seemed to be no flaws or faults with him.

Well, almost. It seemed like he was a bit on the dense and serious side. 

You recall the first day when a group of boys taunted him for wearing a single black glove over his hand, only to end up backing down when Jinwoo showed them a nasty scar. At the time, you were just passing by to leave the classroom, but you swore that scar couldn’t be made by normal means. Then again, you never knew what Jinwoo went through in his upbringing, so you kept it to yourself.

Then there were the constant confessions. You lost count of the library or rooftop confessions that you happened to stumble upon during your breaks. The library and rooftop were your go-to places to relax, yet somehow, Jinwoo’s love confessions were always there and sometimes in the hallways. You’d always see girls crying their hearts out and running away, when you looked over, Jinwoo smiled and waved at you. 

Though you nodded your head with a neutral expression before you left. You really wanted to give him a piece of your mind, by then you were sure he rejected and made a bunch of girls cry. If he weren’t the former strongest Hunter and praised and admired by you, you would have given Jinwoo the cold shoulders. You wondered if he had always been like this even before the timeline repeated itself.

But there were times when you wondered if he knew that time repeated like you did. You hoped that there was someone you could connect with. There was so many times that you felt so foreign in your place. Like everything was a lie. Maybe it was because you were used to the you and world in that former timeline, maybe it was because everything felt so real there and to be denied that reality was breaking to you.

So that might have led you to what you did then.

It was any other day after school was done and it was time for the extracurriculars. Jinwoo was in track and field while you were in a literature club. Yours ended earlier than his, and when you left, you’d catch him on his breaks. Like always, he’d be under that tree, sitting at the base of it and holding onto his water bottle while he napped a bit. 

Your legs brought you over to him and you squat down to stare at his features. Your eyes blinked as you waited for any form of reaction from him. If he were like you, he’d still have his Hunter senses, but there was none. Your face crunched together a bit as you tested another method. You slowly and gently took his bottle from his hand, still he didn’t seem to be conscious. So you sat down by him and set his bottle between you two.

“Hey, do you remember something like a portal to dungeons? Like in those games or movies? Haha, it’s silly huh? But I remember a world like that. There were brave Hunters who protected normal people with their powers and strength every day, they risked their lives to protect humanity. No matter their rank.” You stared at the sky as you talked your mind out. For some reason, you felt comfortable saying all this to him, even when he was sleeping.

Of course, you never saw the twitch in his fingers and the various eyes that stared at your form from the shadows. You continued your ranting.

“There was once the weakest Hunter who tried his best just to get by, then he was suddenly the strongest. Despite everything he went through, he never hated others or the world, nor did he take revenge. He was so selfishly selfless.” You clenched your hands as you looked down, “I’m sure, in the end, he did something, but it wasn’t just for himself. I can’t tell, but he was so stupid to just suffer the weight of it all alone.”

You failed to notice how his jaws clenched tightly.

“Haha. Well, I’m just being silly.” You got up and patted your clothes to remove any dirt or grass stuck to your fabric. You looked down to see if his form had changed, only to notice nothing out of the ordinary. You chuckled, picking out a leaf from his hair and blowing it away so that it could follow the breeze. You turned your attention back to him and bowed your head saying, “Thank you, Hunter Sung Jinwoo, for all you’ve done.” You straightened up and smiled before turning away from him. “I wish you the happiest lifetime for your efforts and suffering.”

Not even a few steps in, your eyes widened as your smile fell straight from shock. A pair of strong arms wrapped around your waist as your head tilted to see who it was. Jinwoo.

“Always. You always have a way with words. You know that?” Jinwoo’s voice cracked. 

You flinched, figuring he heard you, “Uh, um, I was just referencing to a novel the literature club had its members read! Nothing too serious! I, really…”

The way Jinwoo’s eyes glowed purple made your words fall short. “Don’t lie. You remember. You remember it all. Please.”

Your heart ached for some reason you can’t explain. In your memories, you were nothing special to the S-Rank Hunter Sung Jinwoo. You were one of the bystanders who cheered him on. You were only something to him when he visited his mother at the hospital, you as the doctor in charge of his mother’s treatment and stay. After his mother was discharged, there was no reason for him to return or visit the hospital because he had no need for it. 

Once, you witnessed his soldiers when his sister was brought to you to check due to some dungeon break in her school. You were so busy calming her down that you ignored the soldiers’ stare. When the Hunter appeared in the room, you professionally relayed his sister’s condition to him and he, in such a troubled state, didn’t spare you greetings of the like. 

After then, you’ve been keeping an eye out on the news for his good work for humanity. Just silently cheering him on from the sidelines because you knew you wouldn’t be able to help him. When you saw him with other S-Ranked Hunters, you felt content and proud, sometimes you can’t believe that was the same small frail E-Rank Hunter that would try to pay his mother’s medical bills with wounds and injuries all over his body. 

You reached your hand to the top of his head as best you could. Perhaps it was a good thing. In this world, he doesn’t need to throw himself into the dangerous dungeons with monsters that want to tear him apart. “Yes, I lied. I remember it all. But aren’t you going to go look for your other friends?”

His grip on you tightened. “I... I’ve wanted to stay by your side for a long time, but it was either you were too busy with your work or I was. There never was a time. When I reversed time, I thought I could correct things. But this time, there were other obstacles.”

“You could have just come talk to me.” You chuckled at his words. “Instead, I got a look good at how you’ve always made girls cry. Can’t you let them down gently?”

“But I was being honest.”

“Brutally honest…” You sighed. 

Jinwoo loosened up a bit, turning you so that he’d meet your eyes and you’d meet his, “What does this make us?”

You poked your finger at the middle of his chest, pushing him away from you, “Nothing serious. We’re starting from rock bottom. As friends.”

Jinwoo smiled, nodding at your words. “Well, we both have the time.”

“Right.” You huffed, content with this result until you recalled something. “Wait, you reversed time!?”

That day, under the tree and with the breeze of the wind, your surprised rambles gave the Shadow Monarch his solace back. For so long, he has dreamed of meeting you again and staying by your side. You were so diligent and caring that he never stood a chance, even when he became an S-Rank Hunter. 

Jinwoo laughed while you continued to speak at the speed of light over what he said. His eyes curled to crescent moons as he watched you stress over what insane thing he had done for the world again. All the while, within his Realm of Eternal Slumber, his Shadows cheered for their reunion, certain few plotting ways to move the relationship faster and deeper. 

With your distracted mind, Jinwoo plopped his form on top of yours while you tried to balance yourself. “It’s so good to have you back.”

“I’ve been here the entire time…” You pouted while you grounded yourself from the sandbag over your head. Still, you can’t help but chuckle, messing up Jinwoo’s hair. “I’ll be in your care this time.”

In a Tuesday interview with NBC News’s Hallie Jackson, Vice President Kamala Harris stood firm in supporting LGBTQ+ rights but faced pressure to clarify her position regarding access to gender-affirming care. Harris reiterated her belief in equality and respect for all people while countering a deluge of anti-transgender attack ads from former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Harris, when asked by Jackson about whether transgender Americans should have access to gender-affirming care, responded, “That is a decision that doctors will make in terms of what is medically necessary.” Every major medical association, including the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association, has stated that gender-affirming care is medically indicated and necessary care. Harris criticized Trump’s campaign for focusing heavily on attacking transgender rights in attack ads, calling it a diversion from substantial issues. “Trump is running tens of millions of dollars in ads to talk about two cases to distract from the fact that his policy and plan is also to take away the Affordable Care Act,” Harris said. Trump’s campaign ads push misinformation about gender-affirming care and portray Harris as extreme on the issue. These ads, which have aired widely in battleground states, focus on transgender athletes, gender-neutral bathrooms, and health care access for incarcerated trans individuals – something the Trump administration provided under law to people in government custody. When Jackson pressed Harris on the contrast between her message in May — when she told trans Americans, “We see you, and we love you” — and her current remarks, Harris reiterated, “I believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect, period, and should not be vilified for who they are.”

Found this update about Sabrina/Romania and the floor final on reddit. I do like the stipulation that Jordan will keep her medal, but I'm worried about setting a precedent for allowing scores for routines from competitions that are already over? (Even though in my heart I truly feel that Sabrina should have been the one on the podium to begin with, especially with that bogus neutral deduction that nobody can explain). This feels like this is only happening because Nadia fucking Comaneci is advocating for it, and I'm not sure I like the precedent of legends of the sport throwing their weight around to influence the FIG either (especially with what we know is going on with FRG with Catalina Ponor and Daniela Silivas harassing Ana and her coaches). Like imagine if the Karolyis had the ability to throw their weight around with the FIG while they were still active? Or if in the future Simone or Khorkina or Boginskaya could just step in and protest a score for an athlete. Plenty of people have also already talked about how Jordan's first individual Olympic medal (an incredible accomplishment!!) is so controversial and how awful the situation is for her and Ana, but all of that still stands.... what an absolute shitshow

a/n: oh boy my first piece of fanfiction (not actually but like in the good ol' tumblr format at least). of course, in honor of my first piece of tumblr fanart, it's with yamaguchi because he's so soft and he would fit this perfectly, i think (and also i hope this happens to me one day since i work at the wfm bakery and lik e... it'd be so very cute) -- also it's short because first piece and idek if people will even like this and i debated between 3rd pov and 2nd pov for like 30 minutes before writing it so oops

also i relaly hope i characterized yamaguchi right bro

i made the fancy liner thingy myself

A sweet treat never hurt anyone, right? he thinks to himself as he approaches the automatic doors. A blast of cool air greets him as he steps over the threshold into the supermarket. The fruity scent of the produce section wafts in the air, invading his nostrils as he grabs a basket from the entrance before wading deeper into the market.

There are a few people milling around, but the store doesn't seem to be too busy beyond that. It's not like Yamaguchi had many things to get, either -- as a college student, Whole Foods' prices tended to be out of his budget and was reserved for emergency trips only, since it was the only grocery store within walking distance of his apartment. Unfortunately, it's an emergency trip -- he had just returned to the States after winter break, and his fridge was empty. The fatigue of a 16 hour flight is beginning to take a toll on him, too.

He meanders about the aisles, peering closely at the price tags accompanying each item. He pulls two boxes of mac and cheese off the shelf and places them into the basket dangling from his arm. Mac and cheese is, perhaps, one of Yamaguchi's favorite emergency meals. And the 365 brand version wasn't half bad, either. It was no Kraft, but it'd have to do.

Soon, he's added more items to his basket -- a jug of milk (always whole), a carton of eggs, and some butter. He's perusing the cheese options when a worker asks him if they can help him with anything.

"Oh, no," he says in his accented English, "I'm good, thank you!"

The worker nods before walking away, and Yamaguchi returns his gaze to the cheese. Parmesan's always a good option, and he really enjoys sharp cheddars, but he's not even sure cheese is something he should get at the moment. He frowns slightly before putting the specific chunk he was looking at down and walking away.

Before long, he finds himself standing in the bakery section. He takes his time here, enjoying the pretty sights of each individual cake in the refrigerator. Every now and then, when he has reason to celebrate and extra money to spare, he'd buy one -- his personal favorite was the Boston Creme.

He takes a few steps away from the cake case, shifting his head to look over at the assortment of mini tarts and cheesecakes and other small sweets at the service counter. He's bent over slightly at the hips to take a closer look, because each one is assembled so artfully that he thinks they deserve his full attention. He can feel his stomach grumble slightly at the thought of eating one of those treats. He'd had a long day. He deserves at least a small sweet treat, right?

His focus is so fully on the display that he doesn't hear the worker at first.

"Sir? How can I help you?"

Yamaguchi straightens up so quickly that his back creaks in protest -- even former athletes get plagued from moving too fast. As he opens his mouth to speak, he finds that the words aren't forming in his brain because he's so taken aback by you.

The way the light reflects in your eyes, the way the white chef's coat sits on your frame, the way the black hat holds your hair back. Even though he's unsure about the amount of effort you may have put into your appearance for work, he's starstruck.

"Sir?" you say again. Your voice is sweet, so sweet, like one of the cakes on display. "Can I get you anything?" You're looking at him expectantly, your head tilted slightly to the side. Yamaguchi's reminded of a puppy.

He can feel his face heat up, both in embarrassment and in awe. "U-um, yeah," he says, wincing internally at the stutter in his voice. "Can I get..."

His voice trails off as he realizes he's not quite sure what he wants, but you're standing there so patiently that he doesn't feel rushed. He tears his gaze from you and returns his attention to the desserts arrayed in front of him, peering closely at each one to try and figure out what he wants.

"Still unsure?" you ask, although you're not visible from where Yamaguchi's gaze is. "Take your time!"

He finds himself thinking about how none of these treats would compare to the sweetness of your voice before he quickly shakes his head. He literally just met you. Why are you having such an effect on him?

Finally, he decides on one. "Can I get the mini fruit tart?" he asks, thanking whatever forces are out there for his now-steady voice.

"The four inch or the two inch?" you respond, and it seems so practiced that Yamaguchi is, once again, taken aback.

"The two inch, please," he manages to say after another brief pause of silence.

He watches as you vanish behind the counter, re-emerging with a plastic box. "Just the one?"

He nods, his eyes tracking your every move. As you pull on two blue gloves that fit your hands snugly. As you slide open the door and bend, reaching your hand towards the edge of the case to grab one of the three remaining fruit tarts. As you straighten up and place the fruit tart in the plastic box, closing the lid. As you pivot and walk out of sight, fully gone for several seconds before returning. The plastic box containing his dessert has a label on it now.

You hand it to him with a brilliant smile, and he mentally captures the image in his head. Your smile might just be one of the most beautiful things he's ever seen.

As he takes the box, he notices that the gloves are no longer present when his hand accidentally brushes yours. He can feel his face heat up once more and he hopes he doesn't seem like a total dolt with how flushed he's gotten since the short interaction between the two of you started.

He places the box in his basket and returns your smile with a smaller, shy one of his own. "Thank you," he says and you nod in his direction before turning your attention to the next customer.

As he makes his way over to the self checkout, one thought in his head rings out louder than the rest.

I should come to Whole Foods more often.

Breaking neutrality conditions will result in your results being nullified even after the fact (no taking your medal to a photo op with Putin for example).

No flags in the venue (including "historic") ones held by spectators. No references to Russia/Belarus in music (which must be approved by FIG). Leotards will be solid light blue (and white pants for MAGs). The also must be approved by FIG. RG apparatus must be solid white.

No teams of any sort (two Individual Neutral Athletes can no combine their scores in any form).

Wickenheiser, Virtue among 42 former Canadian Olympians banned from entering Russia

Hayley Wickenheiser, Tessa Virtue and Clara Hughes are among dozens of former Canadian Olympians banned from entering Russia for signing a statement encouraging the removal of Russian athletes from next year's Paris Olympics amid the country's invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement it was closing its borders to 333 Canadians, most of whom are politicians, in response to the Canadian government periodically imposing sanctions against Russia.

The list includes a group of 42 retired Canadian Olympians who signed a statement last month urging the Canadian Olympic Committee to reject the idea of allowing Russians to participate in the 2024 Games unless Russia withdraws from Ukraine.

The Canadian government was also among a group of 35 governments that released a statement in February saying that, without clarity on a workable neutrality model, "we do not agree that Russian and Belarusian athletes should be allowed back into competition."

The COC said in a statement last month that it supports the exclusion of athletes representing Russia and Belarus from international sport as long as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues.

The International Olympic Committee has not yet made a decision on whether or not Russian and Belarusian athletes will be banned from the Paris Games, saying last month the decision will be made at the appropriate time. The IOC did, however, recommend that individual athletes from both countries who do not have links to the military be allowed to return to competition under neutral status.

If I see one more person comparing Travis kneeling for the National Anthem in 2020 to Joe being a part of Artists4Ceasefire, I will explode. First off, no athletes were not losing their jobs for kneeling in 2020. Quite the opposite, those were the ones that were getting respect from people who didn't even follow them. White athletes were certainly not risking anything. Colin Kaepernick was fired and blacklisted but that was before 2020.
