Trump's trial "is a fulfillment of his rights"
"That Trump will be tried for his coup attempt is not a violation of his rights. It is a fulfillment of his rights. It is the grace of the American republic. In other systems, when your coup attempt fails, what follows is not a trial."
--Timothy Snyder, PhD, Levin Professor of History, Yale University

The Trump campaign will probably use that image for fundraising aimed at gullible MAGA zombies. Though they'll likely apply some photoshop to it to make him look less like a serial peeping Tom.

Just as a reminder, I do sometimes quote conservative writers. Douglass MacKinnon worked in the Reagan and elder Bush administrations. From his August 19, 2023 opinion piece:
Suddenly, a covert plan to file semi-plausible indictments against Trump becomes a massive overreach that is defeating the original intent of manipulating the outcome of the Republican primary.
Voters not attached to the extremes of either political party may now be saying, “Wait a minute. They are now charging Trump with what? These Democrats now want to criminalize speech and past public statements? I may not like that Trump character, but this is starting to seem un-American.”
...
It’s not hard to imagine more and more voters saying to themselves: “If they can do this to a former president of the United States, they can surely do it to me or someone in my family.”
So, a new question for those Democratic strategists who believe “the more we indict Trump the more likely he becomes the Republican nominee” would be this:
“What if we have now collectively and brazenly overreached — and because we have, the voters who are now beginning to see Trump as a sympathetic character and even martyr overwhelm the millions of Trump-hating voters we wanted to bring out in November of 2024?”

I try not to get super political on here, but the New York Times did an annotated breakdown of the (current) charges against Trump and I thought it might be helpful for people who aren't 100% sure what's going on.

DECODING FOX NEWS
The propaganda in this one Fox News segment is astounding, and succinctly sums up the alternate reality that right-wing media have constructed regarding Biden and Trump.
Mollie Hemingway, the editor-in-chief of the right-wing media outlet The Federalist, does four things in this video:
She ignores the history of the Trump family's financial corruption, both during his administration and shortly afterward (when Jared was given control of investing $2 billion by the Saudis).
She implies that the repeatedly debunked Burisma claim against the Bidens is true.
She implies that all the indictments against Trump are due to the Biden administration's attempts to "persecute" Trump for standing up "for the people" to the "corrupt" Biden regime.
She likens the indictments to what happened in the past in communist regimes, where people like the Czech Republic's Václav Havel had been persecuted but later became presidents.
Below is a breakdown of the video:
HEMINGWAY: Also does, though, is it shows us what we're dealing with as our country. We've had a lot of people who have become political leaders and become incredibly wealthy.
HEMINGWAY: Joe Biden spent 50 years in public service and his family all has bank accounts where they take money from foreign people. They go to public service, and they come out much better.
HEMINGWAY: You have with President Trump one of the first and only people to actually stand up against that corrupt regime.
HEMINGWAY: Seeing the persecution that comes associated with it, which also kind of makes the case for him, because people see that if you go along with the regime, good things happen to you. If you stand on behalf of the people, they will try to destroy you.
HEMINGWAY: So there's like a weakness that's shown here in the same way you think of like the... what the communists used do to their political opponents. They would imprison them.
HEMINGWAY: After communism ended, some of those people became presidents and leaders like Václav Havel in Czech Republic because people knew they were persecuted and imprisoned because they were they were opposing a corrupt regime.
If any of Trump's indictments end in conviction, dangerous civil unrest may very well occur--likely in part because of the kinds of false, wreckless statements that Fox News contributors like Mollie Hemingway have made repeatedly.

My main impression of this Mayor is that he seemed to like it when NYPD officers hurt people, regardless of whether or not the person was suspected of any kind of crime. He just seemed to relish the idea (and the reality) of cops hurting people with complete impunity.

It's time, once again, to choose a Republican Speaker of the House! 😳
It probably won't be George Santos. Like Donald Trump, he's ineligible because of criminal charges against him. Rep. Santos now faces 23 counts. He needs to work harder to catch up to Trump.
Read the updated indictment of Rep. George Santos
Another member of the House who many people think deserves to be indicted is Gym Jordan – one of the candidates for Speaker.
Former Ohio State University wrestlers say Jim Jordan betrayed them and shouldn't be House speaker
Jordan is a facilitator of sex abuse. Imagine the editorial cartoons of him as House Speaker.
It says a lot about the GOP that their least bad candidate for Speaker once called himself "David Duke without the baggage". Duke was once the "grand wizard" of the KKK.
House speaker contender Steve Scalise reportedly called himself ‘David Duke without the baggage’
We can help erase the slim majority which GOP legislative terrorists have in the House. Support the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Quick update: Trump is currently under indictment on 78 felony charges.
34 charges out of New York for defrauding the government to conceal a minor campaign finance violation. (the Stormy Daniels case)
40 federal charges out of Florida relating to mishandling of classified documents (+2 of his co-conspirators). This later indictment replaced the earlier one, which only had 37 charges (+1 of a co-conspirator).
And 4 brand new federal charges in the Jan 6th/fake electors case.
All of those links point to the indictments that were filed with the courts.
34 + 40 + 4 = 78 charges against Trump himself
34 + 42 + 4 = 80 charges against Trump and his co-conspirators.
Each of these four indictments was issued by a grand jury of everyday citizens of Manhattan; of the Southern District of Florida (Palm Beach County); and of Washington, DC.
The media is not behind these indictments. Joe Biden is not behind them. The deep state is not behind them.
The criminal justice system and grand juries full of regular American citizens are behind these indictments. These indictments are the people of the United States of America vs. Donald J. Trump.

You know what's the best part of tRUmp getting indicted for espionage?
tRUmp signed a law changing the penalty for mishandling classified docs to 5 years in prison & made it a felony.
The law he signed to punish Hillary will be used against him.
Shakespeare said it best:
Hoist with his own petard. 🤭
