since i lowk dgaf abt what people in this fandom think of me for having basic media literacy and logical reasoning atp
i think quite a few of you pretend to be better people by making max's parents "good people" so you can fight off against early fandom's potrayal of white saviour esque dadvid [which isnt even the dynamic in canon, but i digress] but because people doing this were drawing an eye during literature class they just fight racism with more racism.
because tell me why i have seen "max's parents are poor people who cannot speak english" more than once. Why is it so impossible for people to see that max is a neglected child who acts out because he is neglected at home and his parents dont care about him.
Why do you need the writers and artists to establish something which is basically screamed at you by the narrative?
Literally why are you all insanely dense about a child acting mean to others due to the fact that they are neglected at home.
Like just say it dude is it because max is an indian immigrant child who doesnt act like a soft pure victim like you all want him to act like and thus just casual denial of max's canonical neglect is justified. I literally hate some of you people
#camp camp#camp camp discourse#havent even mentioned how as an indian person it is insanely dehumanising that people still think indian immigrants dont know how to speak#english something that is taught to several indians#and especially for an immigrant family in america for a camp like camp campbell which is stated to be expensive#like every context clue basically yells at you these people are rich and do not care for their child. Max is a victim of neglect#denying this is being at this point intentionally obtuse and honestly headcanoning shit like this is honestly actually racist#not even gonna add character tags. go figure#im just sick of people pretending to be anti racism and all this but then make up shit like this like it is hurtful. as a victim of abuse#and as an indian . it hurts dude#you are hurting more people than helping. hope this helps

Whenever Brits are like "tea is our national drink, our culture, our personality, our mental health" I think of our hill country blanketed in a patchwork quilt of human suffering and ongoing violent colonialism and want to smash all their tea cups. Your genocidal leaf juice is nothing to be proud of. The present day tea pluckers are the descendants of the Indians you enslaved and they still live in unthinkable poverty in the line houses you built to house them like cattle. The families whose farmlands you robbed have been starving for generations. Every sip of your leaf juice is soaked in blood and you drink it like vampires.
Tea will never belong to you. It's our legacy of grief, and your shame.
Drink your tea and shut the fuck up.
#sri lanka#'but my parents were immigrants!' 'and you're living in a genocidal country that's still sucking the marrow from the global south. so.'#'but my parents were indians!' 'ok? drink your chai and think about the stateless south indian tea pluckers? what is your point?'#if you live in britain you enjoy the fruits of its empire even if you're at the bottom of the food chain#that's why middle class Asians and Africans migrate to europe even if it means they have to earn a living on minimum wage#you can't share a race and country with sue braverman and tell me that your origins can make you any less complicit#british culture#tea#british empire#colonialism#british colonialism#colonization#extractive colonialism#tourism#capitalism#indigenous rights#indian ocean slavery#slavery#white supremacy#knee of huss#food culture#cash crops#monoagriculture#ecocide

I want to wait until I have the Bob Alter translation of the Hebrew Bible in front of me before I post the passage (accept no substitute), but in the vein of Collateral (2004) midrash/The Jazz Singer convergences is Max's name: Durocher, of French origin, meaning of the rock. He's a Mosaic figure, after all; a keeper of the Word in its spirit, in good faith, contra Vincent, who is more a harsh keeper of the letter, ensnaring his prey — and his own soul — in an embittered, nihilistic reading of the fine print.

Charles’ patches and pins :)
SKA pin: Quick History lesson because I had no idea what it was: definitely google more:
SKA is a music genre that originated in Jamaica. In the 70s a lot of Jamaicans immigrated to the UK. Punks and young Jamaican immigrants felt a sense of unity due to both being screwed over by the system. This led to 2 Tone SKA which mixed SKA with punk rock elements. While 2 Tone SKA is a genre, it was also a movement that focused on racial unity.
Rude Boy patch: In late 60s Jamaica RudeBoys were young “delinquents” who listened to rocksteady music. Term was used in England to refer to fans of SKA and 2 tone. Think the other insults used for punks that have been reclaimed.
Checker Print pin: Represents racial unity in the movement.
Target patch: Symbol for the Mod subculture. Google this one to.
Union Jack pin (on bag) and patch: He sure is British
Smiley face pin: I believe it’s just a generic smiley face but it could be a logo.
Unknown metal(?) pin: I can’t get a clear enough look at it to even begin to guess what it is.
Unknown pin: I have no idea. The one between the metal one and the checker print. No a clue.
Unknown flag(?) pin: A flag with horizontal blue, yellow, and red stripes but I can’t find anything with those colors in that order.
#correct me if I’m wrong on anything#I’ve been researching SKA for like an hour#I like they made Charles kinda punky#also while I was researching it said that ska got popular with white English kids and West Indian immigrant kids#and obvi came from Jamaica#and the actor who plays charles is half indian 1/4 Jamaican and 1/4 white#ALSO#Please let me know if you know what the hell that flag is#I have no clue#charles rowland#dead boy detectives#this all started because I wanted to know what that flag was#still don’t know#but I’ve watched a documentary on 2 tone SKA now#life update: my friend has made fun of me for not knowing what Ska is

Since that gothic anthy piece I've been thinking about a whole gothic rgu au... I'd really have to dig in deeper into indian-british history in order to develop this further (and to dress everyone more accurately) but I'm tentatively placing this in the 1830s... Akio could be an indian nobleman who worked with/for the east india company... Maybe did some shady stuff for it and was rewarded with a lavish mansion in the uk... Utena is some plucky orphaned girl who becomes his protégé... Anthy is the woman hidden away in the attic... But utena glimpses her at night... Mrs rochester core...
#revolutionary girl utena#akio ohtori#utena tenjou#anthy himemiya#this is just a rough proof of concept i could see some variations too#like maybe anthy instead of being hidden away is posed as akios servant and utena finds out later they're siblings#and maybe akio instead of immigrating from India himself is the son of someone who did#or the son of a british officer and an indian woman#the old decaying mansion is a gothic staple so itd fit more if it wasnt new and built for an upstart#and maybe it could be the 1850s instead of the 1830s to coincide with indian rebellion against colonial rule#and maybe utena could be a servant akio seduces so its more a la jane eyre#and maybe utena is in mens clothes rather than just vaguely masculinised womens clothes......#much to ponder! but i think the base concept is solid#since holding onto past glory and unnerving architecture and incest are such big staples of gothic fiction#and since the presence of indian characters would make sense in Victorian england

Canada has gotten so blatantly racist these past few years. Like yeah, we always have been, but people at least used to hide it more. Now every day there’s a Facebook post like “driver went through stop sign” and there’ll be ten comments like “this is what happens when you give people a licence without making them take an Ontario test and they can’t speak English” or “Tim Hortons got my order wrong” and ten comments like “well they don’t hire Canadians anymore” when there’s zero proof it wasn’t just an idiot white person. And it’s like. Karen, just say you hate Indian people and get it over with. Everyone knows what you mean when you say “can’t speak English”.
#if you’re not indigenous you have no right to complain about any other immigrants lmao#I don’t care if you’re like third or fourth generation Canadian#one of your ancestors came here from somewhere elsee#you are descended from immigrants and colonizers#you don’t get to complain when an Indian person moves here#also guaranteed none of these people complain if like a white British person moves here#they’re only mad at the brown people#text
