SERPENTINE PROMISE | Hidden in Plain Sight.

Serpentine Promise is a 16+ literate Horror / Slasher Warriors RP set on the coast of Belize in the heart of a meteor crater called the Cardinal. This RP takes heavy inspiration from the beautiful indigenous Mayan cultures of Belize for its worldbuilding.

You are part of three groups known as Arrows. You live in relative peace, guided by your Celestial Leaders in the skies above - the Jade Tiger, the Red Tiger, and the Gold Tiger. Centuries prior, these three leaders created the Arrows, but in doing so created something worse. The North Serpent wanted the crater for itself, and would only be satisfied when it ate the sun. The three tigers fought together against the serpent to the death.

In modern times, these Celestial Leaders are growing increasingly distraught, until they disappear one night and leave you with nothing but an omen … Cats around you begin to drop dead soon after. Your objective? Survive. Keep one eye open. Figure out which one of you is slaughtering cats by the dozen, or die trying.

You and Gore have had some.. interesting history to say the least over the time you’ve known each other and became allies. She’s a hot head and oftentimes a prick. But the more you got to talk, and the more you to make her comfortable and trustworthy of you, she got more softer. But always was a feisty ball of fire going the a sailors tongue who never took that canine skull mask off. And very independent. You two were allies, occasionally in contact for missions or relaying info on crime or her just complaining about Carnage stalking her ass.

Tonight was like any normal night at (insert place) where you usually chilled after work or your normal daily life stuff, rain pattering on the windows since it was raining in NYC. When all of a sudden you hear a window creaking open and a person collapsing onto the floor soon after opening it with a groan. You look to see it was Gore but.. she’s severely injured.

Gore looks up at you, her mask slightly broken so you see a bit of her eyes looking up at you as blood trickles from her wounds. “Hey..” she rasps out, voice sounding more distorted than normal- her voice distorter must be broken from the rain. “I.. I need help, please..”

Some scattered thoughts on Critical Role's Assassin's Creed one shot. This contains minor spoilers about the AC universe, but nothing that isn't covered within the first few missions of the first game.

Basic AC Background: Assassins are a secret society of warriors who seek to preserve freedom across the world. Opposed to the Assassins are Templars (yes, the Templars from the Crusades), who are also a secret society but instead attempt to control and decide the future of humankind. The war between these two groups has gone on for millenia, and while the Assassins are nearly wiped out in modern days, the fight isn't over. The AC games cover the history of this conflict across numerous continents and time periods. The upcoming Shadows game will feature a story set in Sengoku period Japan, during Oda Nobunaga's push to unite the country under one banner.

One shot setting: We follow 4 unaligned warriors in Sakai, an independent city in Japan with robust trade with European ships. Of course, conflict breaks out, and the PCs have to sort out what is happening and what they should do. This is a fairly standard introduction into an AC game; half of the AC protagonists are initially ignorant to the Assassin/Templar conflict and get caught up in a mess. Most end up siding with the Assassins, but a few recent games include Templar protagonists. The games use a mix of open world exploration and scripted missions, so Matt's cutscene-like events in the one shot did a great job of matching that feeling of seeing a cinematic between each mission phase.

Historical "accuracy": The AC games, in general, are known for their meticulous efforts to be accurate regarding historical locations, weaponry, and languages--specifically so that deviations stick out as plot points. It's not an exaggeration to say that people living in featured cities like Paris, London, and New York have been able to navigate historical neighborhoods based on IRL knowledge. There's always a handful of errors, but a good rule of thumb is that if they deviate from commonly-accepted history, there's a reason for it. Matt did a pretty good job of incorporating this spirit through his use of historical weaponry, his description of the setting, and practiced pronunciation of any Japanese terms. The fact that each of the 4 PCs stick out like a sore thumb doesn't much work against them; this is a setting where they would attract attention, but not to the level that they don't make sense in this specific city.

Religion: Without giving too much away, religion is a primarily encountered in AC games as a tool used by the Templars to control populations and by the Assassins to hide their members or infiltrate the Templars. The games' incorporation of religion is not really meant as a commentary on theology or organized practice; it's that any and all social structures that can be used to further their goals are used, and because religion transcends class and nationality, it comes up a lot. In the one shot, Matt briefly introduces a Jesuit missionary NPC who delivers a pitch perfect evangelical speech, then Matt notes to Rufino (who had been abandoned by missionaries) that this guy seems like a useful scapegoat. That matches the tone and themes of the games perfectly, without forcing Rufino into either the Assassins' or the Templars' camp.

"Push the Advantage" mechanic: The one shot uses a "push the advantage" option to allow PCs to attack or take multiple actions on their turn, though each subsequent roll uses a smaller hit die. Each subsequent roll has a reduced chance of success, but a higher crit chance. That seemed like a great way to balance AC's real-time combo attacks in a TTRPG that uses turn-based combat. It's also fun for players to be able to gamble in combat. However, if a pushed attack misses, the enemy gets to retaliate with an attack, which nicely reflects AC enemies' ability to interrupt combos. Notably, this mechanic also extends to RP skills like deception, climbing, etc., which works well with the fact that AC combat allows for PCs to flee, hide, and then ambush pursuers. (Poor Robbie really tried to get an assassination in... alas.)

"Adrenaline" mechanic: In the AC games, Adrenaline is a separate resource generated by attacking, dodging, or parrying and then used for Special Abilities (usually chosen with a talent tree). In the CR one shot, adrenaline is tracked like points for the same purpose, with each PC using unique abilities tied to their weapons (e.g., Umi attacking with her wakizashi's Rapid Strike, Rufino's Double Combo that allows him to add on to someone else's attack). That's probably as close to a 1:1 analogy as anyone could get with this mechanic.

Territory disputes: Many of the AC games involve attacking enemy-controlled areas to claim strategic points in a city. Often, the player must defeat a miniboss while other enemies continuously spawn, then the remainder flee. Seizing new territory provides the player with allies, merchants, and resources in that area. Matt mimicked this with the fight at the Shinto shrine and noted to the players that shrines usually aren't picked out for destruction; the survivors turn out to be trustworthy and willing to offer help to the injured PCs.

Altogether, Matt clearly put a lot of effort into designing this one shot system to emulate AC mechanics and attitudes. It was very fun to watch from that standpoint.

Hello, I'm Andrea Saknussemm, a geological survey researcher and fossil expert that formerly worked for Devon Corp. I've since parted ways with the company and have started work with a few others to create an independent museum.

This Museum has several purposes, the first is to create a natural history museum that is run independent of companies like Devon Corp and to be accessible to the indigenous people of Hoenn. The second, is to help protect and preserve the culture of the Draconid people, and make Archaeological and Anthropological papers about our culture and history by Draconid people.

I'm not much of an anthropologist or an archaeologist, but we're also interested in our Fossil Heritage and the Geological history of our homeland.

I will be on occasion making posts on this blogposts including new papers published by this Museum's research team, and willing to answer any questions people might have.

Hi, this is the Mod, I've been around roleplaying for twenty years. My first tumblr rp blog I made now 14 years ago, the last one I ever played I made was from a decade ago now. I wanted to write a few things on here to make clear to anyone who wants to interact:

-I am, as should be obvious above, an adult and not a minor. I'm open to any kind of roleplay. However, please do not use this invitation to be a creep. I've had enough of that for a lifetime. EDIT: While I don't mind roleplaying with minors, please tell me if you're a minor. If you don't tell me you're a minor or lie about your age, I will block you.

-There are some heavy noncanon elements to this blog, and a lot of lore that'll be written here is guesswork or what I feel fits best. Not official sourcework.

--The big thing here is that this blog's idea is that it takes place in an alternate universe where Aster (assumed to be Zinnia's child) did not die, and in fact had children of his own. These children are Andrea and her sisters that might appear on this blog.

-Please keep in mind that my muse's views do not necessarily represent my own views. I prefer to keep bleed to a minimum with the understanding that if my character is mad at you or hates you, that's not a condemnation on my part.

-Any posts with this blue in them will be me speaking out of character, breaking character on something. I will do this sometimes to just make an idle comment, answer questions directed at me, or break character to check on roleplay partners, especially in intense scenes.

𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐆𝐎; a couple had a dream. A dream where humans and non-humans alike would one day live in peace as they themselves were cross-race lovers. The husband a non-human, the wife, human. Together they wanted to share their warm welcomes to both races alike; however the public did not share their sentiment.

They fought tooth, nail and claw, not even one to give up. They had their own family as well, but of course, that only angered the people. Their child treated with so much hate yet their parents still loved them.

𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 passed and the couple had grown old; little has improved but there was still hope for the future. Now their son is grown; even the son wishes to help their parents achieve such future. It was all coming together slowly; centuries has changed and the views between human and non-human has as well. Of course some do not believe in this peace between the races, but majority has welcomed them.

It is the only location in which both races are given a warm welcome as the surroundings do not.

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 the family had pushed for their agenda; they had realized this location would not budge; so they had built their own country, started everything from scratch. They shared news, spread it everywhere for those who wishes to seek refuge in their land.

And soon they saw the light in their future. That is how now, the land they had built is now called “Wisteria” became the most welcoming and loving place around. It was named after their family name and those who resides here shows their love and appreciation for what the family has done.

𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐘 have come to visit; many have chosen to stay. Many have heard such amazing things of Wisteria. From its culture to its education. The number one university is called Wisteria University. It is the first university built and has hold many history.

The entrance exam is quite difficult and many have strive to enter. They offer many programs and education. The Wisteria University also is funded by the government, so students will not be struggling with debt. After all, Wisteria wishes for everyone who resides here to be able to relax and to live in peace.
