can I ask what your dumb menial job is and how can i get in on that shit please lord in heaven
Mail sorting second shift 👌 I found it through a temp agency in my area and it's the first job I've ever had that has not required me to speak to people all day, has paid me enough to live on, and has given me a regular schedule

When applying for jobs through Indeed, I've gotten into the habit of automatically withdrawing my applications after a certain set period of time (like a week).
This is because most of these jobs just straight-up ghost me but this way I feel like I have a little bit of agency over the process. Like if you can't get back to me within a week, even if it's just to reject me, then I'll handle the rejection myself. I'm a real go-getter!
I know it's all an illusion but it makes me feel a little better anyway.

Warning to all Tumblr friends
There's a new blog on here, @scrumptiousinternetyouth going around messaging me, a bunch of my friends, and many others asking if we want commissions. The only reason why I noticed this specific blog as suspicious is because they messaged mere SECONDS after I liked a photo they posted.
Turns out they've been soliciting and when asked about their work they've shared so much art of completely different styles, it became plainly clear what they were doing.
Here are the sources of the art they're using on their blog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SIY's comm price list = vs = the original artist's self portrait: @soyochiiii [art link]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NFT art from KPRVerse - a metaverse building crytpo game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alex Guenther's "Wakanda's Guardian"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this one was hard to find the artist for because there are so few posts. Here's a post from hiatus on twitter earlier this month, and one from @lazytama here on tumblr [original post deleted, link goes to @chibigohan] from March 2019
This blog was created less than a month ago and they're already up to no good. This is not what Tumblr is about.

So like, i had a thought about 3-14 while re listening and like do you think that howdy might've just grabbed the wrong box on accident and instead of admitting he was wrong, just kept selling it as potatoes. Bc he seemed a bit surprised when she read the label too lol also he obviously knows the difference which can be noted but either Sally doesn't or she just went along bc she also didnt want to admit she could possibly be wrong you know, bc she did notice that the name was weird but when howdy kept on selling she was just like 'oh of course!' Lol i feel like it fits both of their characters you know, also i feel like i remember clown saying something before about how sally will pretend she knows something even if she doesn't, the other things he gave her could be explained like that too except the woodchip cereal bc why would woodchips and sawdust be in a box the same way cereal is? Anyway ultimate salesman capitalism brain rot meets of course its just weird i could never be wrong ever, you know lol
that is Definitely a likely possibility! personally im still sticking to the theory of "Howdy is aware that they can consume non-food items / barely any of the food items are real" since he goes on to be like "sponge" "woodchips n sawdust", and tbh i can't read his tone as anything other than Called Out But Trying To Play It Off And Sell The Damn Thing
plus i mean... woodchips n sawdust would be a Perfect cereal box prop-filler, wouldn't it? i imagine if you fill a box with the stuff and shake it, it'd sound convincingly like cereal. plus i bet you could make sponge look similarly enough to bread to use as a background prop. a shelf filler.

Scam job on Indeed strikes again: Return of "Pay me money"
This is awareness post to warn other users on internet how I (and possibly you) can be scammed and potentially exploited by this person(?)/company(?). Tumblr was chosen because any information posted here can be searchable by google. I did the search before working with this company and if I would found a blog like that I would avoid my time waisted.
At end of January 2024 I was contacted by Helen Nordin after I submitted an application for Administrative Assistant on Indeed for Euclid Education Foundation (euclidfoundation.ca). I was informed on being chosen for the role and after some back in forth emails and short phone interview position was mine. Pay was generous for 28 CAD an hour with upgrade for 30 CAD once trial month was up.
Red flag: Despite a healthy 1 or 2 emails in a day between several days I got job too easily and phone interview was barely informational, more like she called and asked questions for the checkmark. I thought it was because by my resume and me being overqualified for this position, but it was not.
I started the work that consisted of simple tasks like creating presentations for the company, only contact I had with named Helen person though Telegram @ Helen_EDUfoundation. After 2 and half weeks of work and constant communication I reminded them about my salary (which was planned to be sent to me bi-weekly) because they didnt mention it before that. They assured me that by Friday afternoon I will get my payment. When I didn't get money Friday I didn't say anything because banks can be late on transactions, and on Monday I was blocked by Helen on Telegram and somehow our convo was erased.
My phone calls to +15143176557 (Helen's number that we used to communicate) were dropped immediately, while calls from other numbers were going all the way to voicemail so I assume I was blocked. I have my suspicions that they are some form of crypto bros because one of my latest tasks was to find cheap sellers for Samsung S20. They said its for international students, but I was an international student and all of stuff we provided for ourselves and one of prominent features of S20 model is crypto wallet included.
In this times when finding a good job is hard many scammers make profit out of you so please research every opportunity that others offer you, especially if it sounds too good to be true. Im glad that I only wasted my time and my plans for close future, but others can waste so much more.

Btw this is my anti-boomer job hunting tip for tech jobs, now that I’m employed and therefore a qualified authority on the subject
Every single company I got an interview out of over the past six months, including the two (2) that offered me a job, had my resume and that’s it. Cover letters either made no difference or perhaps even hurt my odds.
If you’re looking for a programming or related job, I really think the best way is to just shovel your resume into as many applications as you can

Well, this is disgusting. Thank you for explaining this to us- I don’t think I’d have caught it.
Note to self: read the small print.
I got this comment on a story from my Other AO3 Account this morning.
Tumblr media
(Info redacted because I prefer keeping these accounts separate but no one follows me on the side blog I have for that account.)
The story was posted almost a year ago and is relatively “popular” by my average statistics even though it has tropes and themes that are big turnoffs for a lot of people (hence separate accounts). This popularity is undoubtedly because it’s a Marvel Loki story and that fandom is massive.
So there is obviously an algorithm or a bot scrubbing ao3 statistics and leaving this comment on fics that meet a certain metric with the main character of the fic inserted into the comment.
I had a little time to kill this morning so I decided to investigate further. And y’all this is so predatory. Come on this journey with me. It made me mad. It may make you mad.
First, if you go to Webnovel’s website, you HAVE to choose between male lead or female lead stories before you can go any further. WTF?
Tumblr media
And that’s weird, but this gets so much worse. This is basically a pay-to-read site that has different subscription models. Which… okay BUT! The authors don’t get paid! Look at that comment again. They’re promising a supportive and nurturing community, but zero monetary compensation. It’s basically, “post your stuff here so we can get paid and you can get… nice vibes?” I mean look at this Orwellian writing:
Tumblr media
Using the phrase “pay-to-read model” in the same sentence as “qualitative changes in lifestyles for authors” deliberately makes you think that you can get paid and maybe even make a living on this website. But that’s not actually what it says and authors will not receive one red cent.
Oh but wait, the worst is still to come. In case this breaks containment (which I kind of hope it does) this is where I mention that I’m a lawyer in the US.
I don’t do intellectual property or copyright law but I do read and write contracts for a living. So I went to look at their terms of service. It was fun!
Highlights the first, in which Webnovel gets a license to do basically whatever they want with content you post on their site. This is how they get to be paid for people reading authors’ writing without paying them anything.
Tumblr media
Highlights the second, in which Webnovel takes no responsibility for illegally profiting off of fan fic. This all says that the writer is 100% responsible for everything the writer posts (even though only Webnovel is making money from it).
Tumblr media
Highlights the third which say that by posting, the author is representing that they have the legal right to use and to let Webnovel use the content according to these terms. So if a writer posts fan fiction and Webnovel makes money from people reading the fan fiction, and the House of the Mouse catches wise, these sections say that that’s ALL on the writer.
Tumblr media
So that’s a little skeevy to start off with but the thing that is seriously shitty and made me make this post was that these assholes are coming to ao3. They are actively recruiting people in comments on their fan fiction. And they are saying they are big fans of the character you’re writing about and that they share your interests.
Tumblr media
They are recruiting fan fiction writers and giving every impression that you can make money from posting fan fiction on their site and hiding the fact that you absolutely cannot but they can make money off of you while you try, deep in their terms of service which no one but a lawyer who writes fan fic and has some time to kill will read.
I see posts on here regularly from people who don’t understand how this stuff works, don’t understand that they (and others) can not legally make a financial profit from fan fiction. And there are tons of people who will not take the time to dig into the details.
Don’t deal with these bastards. Fuck Webnovel.

Job Scam Alerts: What You Need to Know!
In the latest episode of Scam DamNation, Ms. Cauldwell explains how job seekers can avoid scams during the application process or when accepting a job through a fraudulent interview. According to Axios, in 2023, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported approximately 105,000 ‘business and job opportunity’ scams, with victims losing an estimated $450 million. This represents a significant…
