Patalliro! is fascinating to me because of stuff like this. It's unapologetically gay - even within its anime which aired during primetime hours in 1982 - in a way that many later BL manga would never be, like the ones from the early 2000s which would never dare to call their characters actual homosexuals. Patalliro has actually aged quite well in this regard, there's something comforting about how campy it is.

But anyway, here's my little tribute for my one-year Sparksversary! What a wild ride it’s been... joining in on the fun in the wake of The Sparks Brothers and Annette, and right in the midst of the 2022 tour—and already there’s been so much excitement for what’s next. 

Thank you, Ron and Russell, for the many hours of brilliant and joyous music in a back catalogue that I’m still exploring, for all the wonder and laughter and happy tears to be found in the Sparks universe, for being such role models to me as an artist and as a person. 

Thank you to all the wonderful fans I’ve met, for making this community such a special place, for the way you each share your love of Sparks, for keeping me sane by having others to talk to who understand Sparks in the same way as me. 

Shout out to a bunch of people who aren't on here: my ELO friends Horace, Lasttrain929, Timeblue, Vlog, and Uno are who I have to thank for having actually heard about Sparks before their recent resurgence (and making me assume they were a British band, lol); Roachie for unwittingly introducing me to their music nearly a year earlier than I thought, via one of their rarer collaborations, and consequently making me lose my shit when I realized it later; and Demurepisces whose incessant Sparksposting got me curious enough to finally check them out on my own.

I hope my art does more justice than my words do, because I could never describe how Sparks are so much more than just a band to me. They’re past, present, and future—I’m so glad that they’re true to themselves and tireless reinventors, that I enjoy the latest albums as much as any of the earlier ones. That nothing seems impossible when it comes to Sparks: such huge achievements for them lately, and a year ago I certainly never would’ve dreamed I’ll soon be travelling halfway across the world to see them at one of their largest venues ever. All that is wrapped up in the feelings I get when listening to Sparks—all that, and I’m looking forward to so, so much more. ✨💛

Today for Aud’s birthday I figured out screen share so we could play The Longest Journey together -- I figured it’s the kind of thing we’d both enjoy and it’d be fun to see just how much of its DNA made it into The Secret World (since they’re both Funcom games that Ragnar Tornquist had a big hand in).

We’re well into Chapter 2 and there’s been lots of little things that have felt familiar, but so far the one big, obvious thing that got into TSW? Bingo Cola.

your tags on that maeve outing gifset referencing tms i... it's so fucking hilarious to me, as someone who watched tms s2 before i actually saw the boys s2, that the boys covers all the same ground as tms attempts to with that s2 storyline (while patting itself on the back) but sharper and funnier ... and it's also immensely hilarious to me that laura peterson, the supposedly "amazing" lesbian rep looks exactly like the fucking drawing the marketing people did of 'masc' elena in episode 205 like you can't make that shit up

Oh my god lol I hadn't even noticed how that "lesbian ken doll" look they wanted for Elena is so similar to LP's style lol I think her introduction outfit is identical to the one in the drawing lmao

And same, I actually watched S2 of TMS first too and if the boys hadn't been filmed first I would have thought they were parodying that storyline a little bit from the outing to the "two feminine women send a problematic message" to HL and Cory's reasoning to... everything!

And I get why obviously tms had way more buzz, from the show to the actresses and all that but that's what I meant, if lots of people were so !!! about that storyline and how it was semi handled there then you'd think they would have some opinions about this one! Sadly I think I can count with my fingers how many gay women have seen/talked about this show...
