I finally took the time to photograph my vintage dip pen nib collection, and I need to share with you all how wonderful and diverse their designs are.
These two are my favorite. Just look at them! One of them is named Gorille and the other Mephisto, but to me they're little pumpkins.
And of course you gotta love the Pinocchio nib. You get to write with the nose of a tiny guy! Just not something you get to do anymore.
#I collect them because they come in fun shapes but they're also incredibly nice to use#all the ones I own write impressively smoothly#even the most flexible and fine pointed nibs#I have a ton of modern nibs as well (like a lot) and smoothness plus flexibility is not a common trait combo#good object#dip pens

I think that I've only drawn Ford like. 3 times in my entire life. so here's some Fordsy (and some Fiddsy. and a Bill I guess)

in honor of Holiday for Drumsticks--perhaps the best Daffy short ever touched by Art Davis--FINALLY receiving a way overdue restoration, i'm reuploading this absolute powerhouse of a sequence. Mel Blanc's voice acting is hypnotic as always, and is matched by equal hypnotism in Bill Melendez's animation, who animates his entire savior complex spiel from 0:15--0:54. Art Davis is one of a handful of directors who has the distinction of animating on his own cartoon, carrying us through the remainder of the clip, and Don Williams starts us off with Daffy's aggrieved lack of seniority. beautiful animation, beautiful voice acting, beautiful characterization, and now, finally, after 75 years, beautiful print!
#i feel like who my favorite animator is rotates in waves and it all depends on what cartoons i'm fixated on but Bill Melendez regularly#makes those rounds#though i LOOOOOOOOOOVE Davis' own animation here. i'm sad his unit didn't last very long but it worked out since he got to return to#Freleng's unit and bang out some incredible animation#so fluid... and he was a master of funny drawings. i love Daffy's weird mouth shape at the end and how he looks when he does that shrug#just inherently funny drawings and he was great at capturing this with Daffy but ESPECIALLY Sylvester in the Frelengs#lt#holiday for drumsticks#davis#vid
