Glowing Ones: Why and How
They look beautiful, don't they?
Tumblr media
Lonely beacons of light in the darkness of the wasteland, those radiant guys were difficult to break down.
In definition, glowing ones —or "luminous necrotic post-humans" as the wiki states, despite them not being necrotic whatsoever— are said to be "ghouls who have absorbed so much radiation that they emit a strong, green glow," and I could've taken the easy approach and agreed, but then I continued reading the wiki, and they presented me with this:
"The distinctive luminescence that is the trademark of the glowing one can be best attributed to an unusually high amount of radioactive material that builds up in the bloodstream and muscle tissue of a typical ghoul. Sometimes, upon the transformation into a feral ghoul, the neurological systems of the body cease filtering these particles from the blood and tissue, instead of causing them to build a distinctive bio-luminescence that is a characteristic of the glowing ones. In daylight, they simply appear to be incredibly pale feral ghouls, but in the darkness, they glow with a vivid yellow-green hue, their opaque skeletons clearly visible as in an x-ray."
...And I felt like I had to intervene.
Disclaimer: I get the green glow allegory for radioactive stuff, and I know making those ghouls glow was a design choice more than anything, but I like speculating and applying medical knowledge to daily life. I could also be wrong in my assumptions, and am always happy to be corrected when needed.
First of all, it's really not the "neurological system" (nervous system, I assume, because there's no such thing as neurological system) that "filters the blood and tissue" :") it's the organs from our immune system, like the spleen, lymph nodes and other glands. And as for the "radioactive material build-up," if there were solid radioactive particles in your blood stream I think you'd have to have injected them with a needle lol, because simple exposure to radiation wouldn't cause solid particles to infiltrate the human body.
Radiation damage to tissue is caused by, wait for it, the radiation in itself, the invisible waves that are emitted by a solid like radium or uranium (or graphite...). Fabrics, rough cement and some types of wood catch a lot of particles because of their structure, and they 'become radioactive' because of that, but our skin is not as favourable to this and taking a good shower would be enough to decontaminate us in some cases.
Tumblr media
(chunk of radioactive material^)
If a person has breathed in a significant amount of radioactive dust (the literal meaning of fallout), however, then there would be deposits of said dust inside the lungs, and the radiation emitted from it would destroy the nearby tissue. Also, if a bomb fell somewhat close to you and you survived, chances are you're completely peppered by radioactive shrapnel, so...
Now that that's dealt with, let's move on!
The first thing that comes to mind when considering their glow, besides cartoony radioactivity, is bioluminescence. This is a living being's ability to emit light, and it is present in many species of algae, bacteria, sea creatures and even insects like fireflies and other beetles. It's the result of the activity of a very specific enzyme, and knowledge surrounding it is complicated, so for convenience's sake I'll say it's a product of a cell's metabolism, that can be triggered by specific circumstances.
Tumblr media
(Look up Aequorea victoria, aka crystal jellyfish, they're very pretty)
Nowadays, some species of bacteria have been found to thrive in radioactive environments, processing substances and essentially using radiation as fuel. This has huge potential in leak-prevention and management of disaster sites like Chernobyl and Fukushima.
Imagine now, if you will, that there exists a type of bacteria in the Fallout universe that feeds off of radiation and responds with bioluminescence, shining constantly as long as there's a stable source of fuel for them. This would pretty much explain the glowing as a biofilm (visible bacterial colonies that stick to stuff, plaque on teeth for example) of that specific bacteria feeding off of radiation, with the shinier patches being a thicker film that grew above radioactive material deposits, or just areas in the body with higher radiation. This material could be a piece of shrapnel from the bombs, a chunk of uranium, or any other solid and long-lasting irradiated thing that got lodged into the ghoul's body.
The relationship between the ghoul and the bacteria in this case would be symbiotic (cooperation of organisms from different species that can't survive when separated) to a point or even just mutualistic (cooperation of organisms from different species that can survive when separated), because they continue glowing even after the ghoul's death. For those ghouls to be as long-living while glowing all the way, though, this bacteria's feeding process would have to be extremely slow, so that could be tied to this.
Tldr: glowing ones have radiation-eating, bioluminescent bacteria infestations as an added bonus to their ghoulishness.
Tumblr media
And that settles it : ) hope ya liked it!
(P.S.: I have some other posts in this same vibe, in case you're interested ^^)

Ive been struggling a lot with my self image to the point I’m having breakdowns in the mirror. I need help from anyone who can.
I’m AFAB agender/non binary and ive got some gripes about me I want help in altering in any way if I could get help finding resources or workouts or anything that would help me achieve a more masculine silhouette I would kiss you on the mouth (with your consent of course )
I am 24 years old, 5’7”/170.18cm, 195lbs/88.5kg, type one diabetic, neurodivergent (diagnosed ADHD, high suspicion of comorbid Autism though i cannot get an official diagnosis because the waitlist closest to home is a 2 year wait as of 2022) fibromyalgia is also present for anyone who needs any context regarding health concerns surrounding medical procedures they might recommend or suggest
Below are the things I need help in changing as a list with some details surrounding my anatomical structure
My goal is to be completely unsure if I’m a male or female with a look alone but with androgyny that can be a pretty broad area. I know if I gain upper body musculature that can help but I cannot afford a gym membership yet
vvv More below vvv
I have an exceptionally voluptuous butt. Its almost comical to me, I would say I’m slim-thick or pear shaped. Its the type of back end that a lot of cis femme women would covet, its mostly muscle tissue due to years of athletics but theres also scar tissue from years of insulin injections
My hips are VERY wide. Like I said I’m pear shaped, I hate the curvy figure I have and its rounded edges, I have small pockets of fat resting on my hips that only add to the figure
I have a very stubborn hormonal fat deposit on my stomach I want to stop oral birth control which is the most likely culprit but I currently cannot until I can get a hysterectomy
I have a muffin top and artificial hip dips due to fat deposits that I am looking to tame
Chest dysphoria, I don’t have large boobs, they’re a perky B/C cup. I would consider top surgery but I don’t know how to bring that up with my partner. I do use a fytist binder and I love how my chest looks flat/with nice pectoral muscle (even if its smushed boob). My partner loves the way I am shaped overall but I do not. (He/him/they/them bisexual)
Facial features are so rounded and I cant contour to save my life. I know losing weight will be seen in the face first but what else can I do?
Speaking of face I have loose skin under my chin thats not a double chin but any type of glance downward makes a pseudo double chin and I’m incredibly insecure about it. I have a relatively feminine jaw line and I have a jaw exerciser/silicone bite that I need to use more. Are neck tucks something available for me?
I have hooded eyes, they make me look so tired. I know eye lid lifts are a procedure but thats something I would need to save up for and plan for, I am unsure if losing weight would change this
The triceps of my arms feel like they’re on the road to bingo wings/bat wings, I know the tricep is supposed to hang freely when relaxed and not in use but when my arm hands at my side there is a bit of pudge above my elbow that says “body fat” and not soft muscle
I understand weight loss can help with a small handful of these and muscle building can too but there are additional features and traits that cannot be worked for aside from medical intervention and cosmetic electives. I’m looking for workouts, medical procedures and price ranges, shapewear, makeup tutorials, diets that help in weight loss or muscle gain, and literally anything else that might help me feel like this is my body. Its becoming a large hinderance on my mental wellbeing
I really cannot keep dwelling on how my body is wrong when its something I am stuck with for life so all I can do is work to alter it and care for it. However I know these alterations are possible. Ive seen incredible transformations and transitions within the trans community and NB communities and I’m really hoping some of your experiences can be passed onto me so that I can live as myself too
I appreciate those that have taken the time to read this far. Thank you

I was tagged by my mutual @blackccelebration for this! Thank you 💓
Were you named after anyone? Nope!
When was the last time you cried? I really don't remember. I don't cry much these days tbh
Do you have kids? Nope
Do you use sarcasm a lot? Yep, especially with friends and family. I refrain from doing it in front of patients though.
What's the first thing you notice about people? The sound of their voice. Tone, mood, whether it's high or low pitched, or any accents they may have
What's your eye colour? Brown so dark it looks black, though when the sun hits my eyes you can clearly tell they're brown
Scary movies or happy endings? Both are good to me!
Any special talents? Cooking! I don't do it often due to lack of time, but when I do everyone cleans their plates!
Where were you born? The USA! More specifically, the southern US. Been living here my whole life and I don't plan on leaving. It's a quiet place where I live but I prefer it that way. Plus it's also mostly farm land, so if you drive out to the country it's so nice! You get to see so many cows, and occasionally horses and every now and again sheep! It's a beautiful place and one of the few states that hasn't been fully ruined by the influx of annoying Californians, though thankfully they mostly avoid this place and go to our neighboring state down south
What are your hobbies? Drawing, painting, storytelling, reading about anything and everything, playing the guitar, gardening, and yeah that's it. Occasionally I'll do something different like sewing but it's not often enough that I would call it a hobby of mine ya know? I do want to learn how to sword fight once I get done with the hell known as nursing school though
Have any pets? Nope
What sports do you play/have played? Well, if you consider this a sport, I used to do karate when I was little, but it got too expensive for my parents to allow me to continue. I still enjoy martial arts, but I'm more interested in HEMA than in traditional martial arts, hence why I want to do sword fighting some day!
How tall are you? 5'3 or 160 cm
Favourite subject in school? In grade school it was English and orchestra. In college it was pharmacology. It was a surprisingly easy class despite all the medications I had to memorize. It was also really fun to learn how to give injections and other meds!
Dream job? I'm not exactly sure at the moment. I'm definitely content with the career path I've chosen, but now I'm not sure what specialty I want. I'm torn between becoming a cardiac or oncology nurse. I really enjoyed the cardiac unit in the hospital I had my cardiac clinical in. Plus I really like heart stuff in general and have always had a major interest in cardiology. The heart is just a fascinating organ to me, though not as fascinating as the brain, but honestly I don't feel much of a calling towards neurology tbh. I recently had a clinical at a cancer center and it was one of the best experiences I've had thus far. I won't lie, I thought I was going to hate it. I lost a family member to cancer three years ago, so I thought I was going to come out there sobbing, but my experience was so much more positive than I expected. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the patients were so positive despite their diagnosis. The whole atmosphere was so welcoming and the patients were so well taken care of. I didn't hear a single staff member complain about anyone in the staff only areas. It was truly something else and I say that in a good way.
Many years ago when I was younger, I actually wanted to be an oncologist. Unfortunately medical school is both expensive and intense. I fell out of love with medicine and was incredibly indecisive about what I wanted to do. I originally went into nursing as a way to get my family off my back about what I was going to do with my life. But now I'm rediscovering that love again and I thank my experience at the cancer center and cardiac unit for that. I still have one semester left to go until I graduate, so hopefully God will help guide me to where I need to be. I just hope I can be a good nurse for whoever it is I'll be looking after in the future.
Anyway I'll leave it there
I now leave this an open tag!

Hello this a long shot call, am a citizen of Palestine. I am here to request for your support to help get my insulin, I was diagnosised with type 1 diabetes and due to current situation in Gaza I'm unable to get my insulin injection as a result I'm here begging for little financial support to help me purchase insulin for this week.My donation link is available on my pinned post
After Nisrine, another woman reached out to me for help, and I wanted to share her story as well. Her situation is different in some ways, but just as urgent. She has type 1 diabetes and desperately needs support to get her insulin. The cost of living in Palestine has risen exponentially, and the prices for essential medications like insulin have become unbearable for many families.
What’s even more shocking is how Zionists often use the excuse of Palestinian (and Muslim or arabs) homophobia to justify their actions, trying to paint Palestinians in a negative light. But this woman defied those stereotypes—she wished a happy Pride Month to all Palestinians Queer ! It just goes to show that not everything is as black and white as they want us to believe. While the Israeli government engages in pinkwashing, claiming they are progressive on LGBTQ+ rights, they ignore the fact that gay, lesbian, and transgender Palestinians are also victims of their constant bombings and violence. It’s nothing more than a distraction tactic to hide the colonial violence.
This woman’s strength in the face of such hardship really touched me, and I hope it touches you too. If you’re able, please consider donating to her cause or simply sharing her story. Raising awareness and spreading the word is just as valuable as any financial contribution. Let’s help her get the insulin and care she needs in these incredibly tough times. 💔
Thank you again for your support, and let’s continue to stand together for justice and humanity. Every voice counts. 💚

A quick recap on the rest of 2023's played games!
Part 1!
As explained on a post previously, I sadly wont be writting huge reviews for every game left of 2023
I wanna get to writting about 2024 gamessss
I might revisit a few games from this series of posts in a later date for the sake of giving my full thoughts on them.
Alrighty! Lets do this!
54. Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Tumblr media
Honestly I sorta played this one because of a mutual I dont speak to too often.
Anyway this was my first foray into Trauma Center so I was a bit exited going into it!
Needless to say it delivered on a fun dramatic time! I am quite surprised by how good this game is honestly.
The best way I can describe it is an arcade style operation simulator with the most dramatic hospital room visual novel you will read on the side.
That sounds fucking ballistic but it works.
You have a story about an epidemic sweeping the nation as a group of medical experts try to handle the disease as best they can, mainly focusing on the rise to fame of Derek Styles as he becomes the doctor of all time
(not the best one or the worst one, hes the doctor of all time. )
but you can suture wounds in an instant, you inject green goop to regain vitals, stop time itself, have to deal with dealing with 5 patients in a row in like 15 minutes and constantly see your patients having bugs in their stomach.
The story is played completely straight while the gameplay is fast paced operations using the DS's touch screen.
I love it so much.
The controls are really well tuned, its fun to get better at the game and the gameplay loop is engaging.
The characters are surprisingly memorable and fun to keep up with, except angie. I hate angie.
I am not forgiving you for being a total ass to derek and also telling a suicidal patient to go kill themselves
Did we forget that? I mean you probably dont know what im talking about to begin with but im not forgetting whatever the fuck that scene was.
Whats wrong with Angie.
I hate that im supposed to like her later on but no. Shes still annoying as the whole game goes on, shes not likeable at all despite the writter's best effords.
... again the rest of the characters are fun. Derek is a sweet guy, Nigel is my favorite asshole in the whole place, Kasal and Hoffman are fun to see every once in a while
Every time those two appear, you know the plot is getting serious Stephen is... kinda there honestly, I barely recall much from him outside of his cool headphones, Leslie is sweet and... I want to hit Tyler with a football (affectionate)
Fun cast, Dramatic but engaging story, fun gameplay that uses the DS's touch screen well and a good OST
Its a fun time! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a good DS game! I enjoyed it alot suturing patients, usin the goop, draining- I didnt go into it alot but the gameplay is REALLY fun. genuinely.
Its fast, its frantic and extremely enjoyable to master
(Small note but I miss the artstyle of this game, the later entries changed artstyle... it looks nice in those games but the art here has some charm despite its issues)
8/10
55. Space Channel 5 (PS2, Replay)
Tumblr media
Oh Space Channel 5... god I have mixed feelings on this game
Music? fantastic
Visuals? groovy, the retro future look is unmatched.
The gameplay? ... god damm it input detection
This game is so close to being perfect but the speed of the animations makes certain inputs feel incredibly sluggish which is a huge reason why its so hard to recommend for me.
Took me a whole year to get to grips with the game feel of this game... I didnt get it in 2021 and ultimately felt a bit dissapointed after experiencing Part 2.
By 2022 I actually did get used to it and enjoyed it a whole lot!
I absolutely got it, I fell in love with it! The patterns, the story, the characters, THE EXTRA CONTENT WHEN YOU REPLAY CERTAIN LEVELS WITH 100% VIEW RATING!
It was amazing being able to finally see what alot of DC fans saw in the game after a year of struggle... but I coudnt shake off the feeling of how much of a struggle it was to get used to it...
by 2023 I saw someone else try to get into it, only to run into the same problem I had in 2021 which trully cemented how I feel about the game.
I did also replay it that year because why not and yeah! its still great despite the slight background desyncs every now and again and the sluggish animations... but I cant expect everyone to get used to that
Where im going with this is... Its great... but dont expect it to feel right when you get into it. It takes a second to get used to it.
Its not as snappy as part 2 and I dont fault you if bounce off it because of the gamefeel
I cant completely recommend it. Its great! I love it... you might not enjoy it
If you dont enjoy part 1, check out part 2
Its on steam, its a fantastic ride and one of my favorite rhythm games of all time (even if im still a bit mad over the secret notes for full rating)
8/10
56. Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
Tumblr media
(Yknow what maybe its good that I dont have to write a big review on this one. I dont want to talk details about the story asdhajdhask)
Re:Coded fucking rules
This is my second kingdom hearts game aksjdhakjdaskadshdkj
MY FIRST WAS DDD- I AM PLAYING IN THE WORST ORDER IMAGINABLE
But im still having fun!
I uhh the story in this one isnt as hard to follow as DDD but its still a bit wierd in some areas, doesnt stop it from being fun tho.
Id say the main thing that keeps me going back to this game is how insanely good the combat is. This might be... one of the best combat systems on the DS, im not joking.
Fucking TWEWY levels of fun ass combat on the DS.
Pulling off juggles with the command deck is immaculate.
The stat matrix is fun to mess arround with and alows for a great level of difficulty tuning.
You can make the game a living nightmare for the sake of getting more money and better items.
They made a 3D game work... really well on the DS
I will argue it falls a bit flat on some places considering how most of the game takes place in glitch challenges... but honestly... I love those areas
Its a bit repetitive but the combat carries it HARD.
I wont talk a single thing about the story, its best you see it yourself despite its issues as its still... pretty fun ngl.
People are too meaaan to this game man. Its good!
It gets a big recommendation from me
8/10
Alright! next time ill be rambling about astro boy omega factor, gunstar super heroes and yakuza 4 remastered
and a fewwww more if im up to it
If im being honest I would have posted everything in one go but I dont want to leave this in the drafts foreverrrrr.
So I will do it in chunks.
Thanks for reading my disorganized ramblings

Mmm I like the idea of losing magic.
Microbes like fungi and bacteria evolved to live off magic - leaching it from a person’s body so their magic just gets weaker and weaker.
Bodies that grow resistant to magic - maybe they were healed magically one too many times, or sometimes that kind of thing just happens. Now you’re resistant or immune to all magic effects. For humans it’s a life changing disability, but for magical races who’s base physiology relies on magic, it’s deadly.
In a world with multiple sentient species that interact a lot, what if people started getting allergic to specific species. Like no no I swear I’m not racist, pixie dust just makes me sneeze. There’d be discourse over the ethicality of like medicine that effectively makes a person hypoallergenic (I think you can get hypoallergenic diets and stuff for pets???). Stuff like “we shouldn’t have to change ourselves just take allergy meds” “hypoallergenic meds literally have no side effects, I shouldn’t have to medicate to the point where driving is unsafe just to go to work” etc etc
The whole incredible multitude of genetic disorders that can spring up from like, having a dragon as a distant ancestor. Psoriasis like skin conditions that are itchy or hurt where scales are trying to grow from skin not suited to it. People with dragon ancestry getting just enough genes to naturally produce poison or acid, without the right stuff to actually be immune to the effects of it. For some it just presents as acid reflux though.
Then the whole host of diseases caused by dark magic corruption. Do you think they have like Geiger counters for it?
Maybe certain medical treatments involve injecting the body with dark magic tainted solution and scanning the body to see where the dark magic goes to - since dark magic it attracted to certain forms of corruption.
This method is used to detect the presence of dark lord larvae - the infant stage of a parasite that, left untreated will transform a harmless young mage into the despotic overlord of the age. Actually, most mages don’t become full dark lords, as their bodies are unable to handle the incredibly stressful transformation, usually the parasite will drive them mindlessly onward towards the dark throne, which in the old days, many would die trying to reach because of how treacherous the journey was. These days we keep one in every local hospital, and just round up and treat anyone who starts trying to burn down the iron reinforced door with the terrible dark fire of burning souls.
What are some chronic illnesses that can only occur in a fantasy setting?

Unlocking the Benefits of Tirzepatide: The Next Generation Solution for Weight Loss and Diabetes Management
At BioVital Peptides, we are dedicated to bringing you the latest and most effective peptide therapies available. One of our standout products, Tirzepatide, is quickly becoming a game-changer in the fields of weight loss and diabetes management. With our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, BioVital Peptides ensures that you receive only the best Tirzepatide, trusted by satisfied customers worldwide.
What is Tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide is a novel peptide that functions as a dual GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor agonist. This dual action makes it uniquely powerful in managing both blood sugar levels and body weight. Originally developed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes, Tirzepatide has shown remarkable efficacy in promoting significant weight loss, making it a highly sought-after option for those looking to improve their metabolic health.
How Does It Work?
Tirzepatide works by mimicking the action of two important gut hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which are involved in regulating appetite and blood sugar levels:
Appetite Suppression: Tirzepatide reduces hunger by acting on the brain’s appetite centers, leading to reduced calorie intake and aiding in weight loss.
Enhanced Insulin Secretion: It promotes the release of insulin in response to meals, helping to manage blood sugar levels effectively.
Improved Glucose Metabolism: Tirzepatide helps lower blood sugar by enhancing the body's ability to process glucose, reducing the risk of hyperglycemia.
Benefits of Tirzepatide
Substantial Weight Loss: Clinical trials have demonstrated that Tirzepatide can lead to significant weight reduction, often exceeding the results of other weight loss medications.
Effective Blood Sugar Control: For individuals with type 2 diabetes, Tirzepatide offers robust blood sugar management, reducing HbA1c levels and improving overall glycemic control.
Dual-Action Mechanism: The combination of GLP-1 and GIP receptor activation makes Tirzepatide highly effective in managing both weight and blood sugar simultaneously.
Cardiovascular Health: Some studies suggest that Tirzepatide may offer additional benefits for heart health, making it a comprehensive solution for metabolic syndrome.

Specialists after specialists that don’t offer solutions that will create change… surgery, anti-inflammatories, steroid injections, pain medications.
You want to reach the next level without “paying for it later.”
Tumblr media

Depression

PTSD
Headaches
Muscle Pain
Arthritis
Infertility
Tumblr media
“For 8 months... yes 8 months... I was struggling with severe anxiety and chronic insomnia. I couldn't sleep, it was affecting my personal life, my mental health, and affecting my business. I had never seen an acupuncturist, but once I went in, I instantly felt calm because Kimberly has an incredible presence. After my first session, I did not feel much of a change, but once I received the herbs and went in for a few more, I noticed a HUGE difference. I have since been able to get at LEAST 6 hours of good sleep (coming from 1-2 hours that is amazing) and have been able to manage my anxiety so much better. You HAVE to come here for your holistic needs. I send clients all the time and I have since sent my husband as well. The BEST.”
– K.S. | Elevate Wellness St. Pete Client
Acupuncture In St Pete Can Help Your Pain
When a muscle is overused, specific areas of that muscle become altered physically and neurologically. Connective tissue adhesions form to stabilize the area and the tissue becomes congested. This leads to changes in the local neurological responses that initiate muscle contraction and relaxation causing impaired biomechanics and heightened pain perception. These alterations result in the formation of myofascial trigger points, commonly known as muscle knots.
Trigger Point Therapy uses acupuncture needles to release myofascial trigger points, leading to pain reduction and an increase in range of motion and performance.
By treating the trigger points and focusing on specific muscles harboring trigger points, you can obtain significant pain relief, which can start to shift chronic pain patterns. We are able to find trigger points by recognizing referred pain patterns as well as through palpation of the muscles. When a trigger point is discovered, we are then able to release the trigger point with acupuncture.
Short version: acupuncture is a treatment modality that is commonly and effectively used to treat a myriad of issues not the least of which — pain. Contact us and see if it might be a good next step in your healing journey…
What Keeps People From Getting Acupuncture
Tumblr media
Afraid of needles
We get it, it seems super freaky. The good news is that these needles barely break the surface of the skin unlike the needles that you typically find at doctor’s offices. These are meant to stimulate the underlying muscle fibers and tissues to begin clearing out the knotted muscles so you can experience a relief in your symptoms.
It seems weird + does it really work?
Acupuncture care is a holistic treatment modality that works with your entire system. At Elevate Wellness St. Pete, we don’t see you as just your chief complaint but as a connected being. Acupuncture care treats your whole system not just the “problem area.”
It’s expensive
There is a cost to investing in your health, absolutely. We believe that preventative care is best but often individuals find us because they are currently in pain. If you believe that we can solve your problem, you can’t put a price tag on relief.

doing the right thing
@gordoodlez reblogged your post
i dont know if anyone will see this but how can i help as a minor with a not very supportive family? all that comes to mind is donating to charities and spreading the word, and i dont have much money.
This question came at a good time, as I’ve been thinking a lot about how to help with social problems, about how to learn to be an activist. Sorry for loading you down with an essay.
This is not a guide to the right thing to do right now. It’s a guide to what I think is more important, which is becoming someone who can figure out their own right thing and work towards it.
Inside:
One: Your first responsibility is to get yourself out of there alive.
Two: Learn as much as you can
Three: You also need to learn about yourself
Four: Cultivate humanity
One: Your first responsibility is to get yourself out of there alive. This is important work, and work you more than anyone else in the world are in the right and necessary place to do. If you have to lie to your parents about your identity and/or relationships, or organize an escape plan they don’t know about, do it. You are not replaceable. We need you. Whatever resources you have to use, whatever help you have to ask for, whatever expectations your have to disappoint—no matter what it takes—get yourself to adulthood and/or as much safety, stability, and freedom as you can manage.
Try to keep yourself as healthy as you can, and learn whatever Adulting skills you can get your hands on. Amass as many resources, friends, connections, and mentors as is reasonable for you. If you feel like a weirdo nobody will ever connect to, then you need to find other weirdos like you. They may be rare, but they do exist.
Amassing resources might mean getting what therapy and medical care you can, strengthening your friendships, researching future career paths (even in areas your family/school might not encourage, like the skilled trades), starting yourself a savings account your parents don’t have access to, or talking to a teacher about your professional/educational goals so they’ll be able to write you recommendation letters for programs or scholarships.
If you’re so busy keeping yourself alive and in one piece and safe from whatever you’re afraid your parents might do, that you don’t change the world for the next couple years? That’s okay.
Two: Learn as much as you can. The world we live in is incredibly complicated, so understanding it enough to fix it takes a lot of learning. Read books, watch documentaries, take classes, talk to people with experience, get experience yourself... anything you can do will pay off later. Learn about the differences between the movements that have changed the world, and how they’ve been depicted to you in the media.
Depending on just what ways you want to make the world better, there are also considerations you might not be aware of, that you’ll only know if you’ve researched the matter.
For example: We were talking about HIV/AIDS, which has two major methods of spreading: 1) Sexual contact, and 2) Drug users re-using needles to inject themselves. So there are two schools of thought on what to do about that.
Approach 1: Tell people not to have sex ever unless it’s with the person they are married to. Make drug use illegal and say that anyone who uses drugs deserves what they get.
Approach 2: Teach people about safe sex practices and make condoms widely accessible. Provide drug users with ready access to sterilized needles, no questions asked, and take used needles out of circulation, eg. through needle exchanges.
There’s a lot of evidence that Approach 2 has a lot of advantages Approach 1 doesn’t. But a lot of people are FERVENTLY CONVINCED that Approach 2 is practically satanic and they will oppose it at every chance they get.
So if you decide, “I’m going to raise money for an AIDS charity!” there are a lot of Approach 1 charities that will clamour for your donations, but then spend that money telling high schoolers, “If you have sex outside of marriage you will catch AIDS and die,” which is neither true nor useful. So it can be useful to research which charities to donate to.
Heck, it’s also useful to learn why some people think the entire concept of charity is bad, and what they say is better. You don’t have to make sure your life and everything you do is scrupulously pure, but it’s useful to learn as much as you can. You might be able to make different decisions later, when you’ve got more freedom and power.
Three: You also need to learn about yourself. What are you good at? What motivates you? What do you struggle with? If you want to end up working with a group that tries to make the world different, you’ll need to know which roles you’re suited for. Someone who might not be gregarious and good at getting people on the street to sign a petition might instead be awesome at doing office work, like organizing volunteer schedules or helping to balance the group’s budget.
This is learning that can happen in a vast number of ways, but one of the best is to get experience, even if it’s not ~*activism*~. For example, I once found a binder meant to teach teens how to create clubs in their schools to promote awareness and concern around the AIDS epidemic, and then to get that club to work together to create events, like public concerts, that would promote awareness and raise funds for AIDS research.
That’s all a bunch of little skills put together: Getting a group of people together to form a club. Being able to conduct a meeting that’s civil and productive. Deciding on what your goals are, big and small. Working on a group project together. Learning how to logistically manage a common form of fundraising or public messaging.
You can learn that by doing anything, whether you’re getting your tabletop RPG group to pitch in together to pay for snacks, putting together a fanzine, organizing a charity stream to help out a friend in need, helping your sports team pay for a trip to a tournament, planning a school dance. You don’t have to do it alone; many schools have clubs specifically aimed to teach you these skills by putting together a yearbook, paper, or webcast.  A lot of organizations are aimed at youth, or have youth opportunities to volunteer, and teach these basic skills with the help and support of adults who understand them.
Four: Cultivate humanity. You will need to develop your practical, moral, and ethical framework for how you relate to other people. It’s incredibly natural for us as a species to be angry, afraid, insecure, and aggressive. It’s very easy for us to hurt each other. It is a lot more difficult to build connections based on respect, kindness, justice, and fairness.
Anger, fear, hatred, blame, envy, contempt, and despair are not useless emotions. They give us important information. Sometimes they keep us safe. But they are strong acids, and addictive ones. They can eat at the social fabric that links you to the world around you. There are people and groups that practically sit around, brewing up vats of these feelings and breathing their vapours, and they are dangerous companions.
Use them in small doses. Learn to feel anger, but act in a measured way that keeps you safe without inflicting unnecessary malice. Learn the difference between blame and responsibility. Learn to sift your despair for the seeds of the things you most want to come true, so you can grow those instead. If your aim is justice, if you want to make a better world, you have to start with the emotions you cultivate and encourage inside yourself.
It is really really common for people on the margins to crawl into adulthood feeling deeply angry, broken, isolated, polluted, and unworthy. The systems we live in are often toxic as hell. Often the world isn’t respectful, kind, just, or fair. In fact, I think the world itself, its biology and physics, is the opposite of humane, and it is our work as people to change that.
Part of that work is learning how to be good to other people, while also dealing with people who aren’t good to you. How to realize when you’re too angry to think straight, how to be less judgmental or prejudiced, but also to set boundaries and cut things off when you’re being abused or treated badly. These are difficult skills, that require maturity and wisdom to refine; before you accept the judgment of one person or group, check in with other people who might think differently. Check in with yourself at some later date and see if your thoughts have changed. It’s okay if you don’t always think you were perfectly right; you’re supposed to grow and transform the more you live.
Another part of cultivating humanity is learning how to let other people be good to you. Not everyone will see you with all the flaws and unworthiness you see in yourself, or they’ll see them, but not be so disgusted with them. You’ll have to accept that.
You might tell yourself that you have to earn acceptance and love and worthiness, by doing or being a certain thing, or by sacrificing part of yourself for them. But outside of the context you grew up in, nobody will have been briefed on that story. People generally will not see your special brand of unworthiness; they’ll expect you to be a person, and treat you according to their own rules.
Growing into humanity will mean learning to walk without that shackle, and accept love and connection even when you don’t think you deserve it.
This is important because even among people who think they are working for the greater good, lesser evils may flourish. Being an activist inherently means understanding how to identify and criticize wrongs in the world, which is good in societies but terrible in small groups. We have to be able to bring as much good to the table as bad, which means creating a space where people are committed to treating each other with respect and consideration, and enforcing consequences when they aren’t.
So, like all Old People giving advice to Young People, I’ve loaded this full of things that were useful to me and things I wish I’d known—it’s possible none, or only some of it, was useful to you. Take what you want, and let the rest go.

Yeah, sorry to say, but being a volunteer for both people and animals myself, it's already a miserable show on that front. Donations have taken massive hits, volunteers are forced to go ghost in order to secure a second/third job, and there are way more vulnerable folks and critters relying on our services just to survive compared to our crumbling resources.
All this, while the government proposes ANOTHER tax cut to those who REALLY don't need it. All this, while the housing & healthcare crisis that has been creeping across the world gets worse with each day.
This isn't even discussing how, as a multiply disabled + neurodivergent person, I GENUINELY cannot access the treatment I desperately need because of what arky-who said. I don't live in or near America currently, and I can't get the injectable medication I need for a severe, life-altering dissociative disorder that is otherwise perfectly fine to receive in pill form.
All because America's got a stranglehold on the pharmaceutical world, and refuses to let any other country establish its own agency in the matter. I was told this to my face, by multiple psychiatrists, that I'd literally need American citizenship- or to otherwise live there- to get my hands on healthcare that doesn't make my guts die.
How the hell, then, are us disabled folks supposed to survive when a power that should hold no jurisdiction over our healthcare does so, and with incredible amounts of cruelty?
This is why we say that you can't be too radical in a system that already wants you dead. This is why we challenge the imperialist powers that be for our right to exist, and organize on the ground floor to support the survival of all we can.
This is why we fight, so when you're in our shoes in the future- because injury & old age are a part of life- you won't suffer so horrifically.
Otherwise, we ALL will continue to die at terrifying rates, including the abled. After all, a staggering amount of able-bodied people become disabled due to workplace incidents, preventable or not. And we haven't even touched on Long COVID yet.
The system is already failing, and we have already BEEN dying. Don't give into the all-or-nothing defeatist ideology they so desperately want you to succumb to.
With the same courage we hold, fight.
“you can’t be too radical because disabled people might get hurt” is like the 5 minute crafts version of activism. not only are disabled people already getting hurt every single day but some of us have even died already.

Restless Rewatch: Nirvana in Fire - A Primer
(Masterpost)
Warning: Mild spoilers for the first 5 or 6 episodes
Tumblr media
I have injected all 54 episodes of Nirvana in Fire (The TOS/first series, not the TNG/second series) directly into my neck vein in the past week, having initially bounced off the first episode the three previous times I tried to watch it. I thought a primer might be useful for people who are undecided about watching it, or who are finding the first episode as confusing as I initially did.
This will be followed by Episode recap posts, although not (I hope) at the pace or word count of my Untamed recaps (which are ongoing!). (Edit: see masterpost for more)
I watched it on Viki but I think it’s on Youtube as well.
What is Nirvana in Fire and Why Should I Watch It?
Nirvana in Fire (aka Langya Bang) is about this guy, Mei Changsu.
Tumblr media
He goes by various names in the drama but we're just going to call him Mei Changsu for simplicity. He's looking for justice and he's very very clever. He's also sickly and obviously dying possibly doesn't have very long to live.
Tumblr media
He's secretly a member of the royal family, and all of his old friends think he's dead. He had a medical trauma that turned him into a different actor, so most of his friends can't recognize him. In order to get justice, he needs to shake some things up in the capital, so he goes there and starts manipulating people.
The Pugilist World
He's also, conveniently, the head of a Wuxia ("pugilist" in most subs) society that's like the CIA of the Warring States Period. This gives him a good supply of friendly minions.
His main people from the Pugilist side of things are:
Tumblr media
Sarcastic Kung Fu doctor. He's important in the first episode and then we don't see him for like 40 episodes and then he's important again.
Tumblr media
Sullen/adorable Kung Fu adolescent, who is nearly unbeatable and is played by the kid from Tomb of the Sea & Fights Break Sphere. He is with Mei Changsu throughout the story as his bodyguard and reminder that MCS has a soft heart sidekick.
(more after the cut!)
The Court
Over on the court side of things, there's an emperor, who is a paranoid jerk, but also has some layers to his personality. He’s not a cartoonish villain.
Happily, the show doesn’t lean too hard into the whole “I dare not!” thing where nobody can talk normally to anybody in the court because they’re afraid of being executed.
Tumblr media
Chinese emperors got to choose the next emperor from among their offspring, rather than being constrained by primogeniture like European monarchies, so sibling rivalry basically reached its apotheosis in Chinese Imperial families. Among this emperor’s progeny are four princes who actually matter.
1. Prince Qi was executed as a traitor, but wasn't a traitor, and Mei Changsu wants to clear his name, along with the names of all of his supposed followers who were also executed.
2. The Crown Prince, who is in favor. He is dumb. He looks like this:
Tumblr media
3. The not-crown Prince, who is in favor and wants to become crown prince. He is smarter than the Crown Prince but not as smart as Mei Changsu. Nobody is as smart as Mei Changsu. He looks like this:
Tumblr media
4. Prince Jing also wants to clear Prince Qi's name and insists he was innocent, so he is out of favor.  Prince Jing is a fine upstanding moral heroic dude, who has a temper and can’t keep his mouth shut.
Prince Jing looks like this.
Tumblr media
So, we're rooting for prince Jing, obviously.
Mei Changsu is also rooting for Prince Jing because
They were best friends back when Mei Changsu was a young, different-actor guy without a medical trauma
He'll be a good ruler
He, like Mei Changsu, wants to clear up this whole traitor situation
He looks like this:
Tumblr media
The Friendships
In the current time, Prince Jing doesn't know who Mei Changsu is so he doesn't fully trust him, and talks smack about his values. At the same time he just *feels* an affinity for him and they look at each other like this.
Tumblr media
Do they lock eyes like that for the entirety of every conversation? Yep, pretty much.
Also Mei Changsu's old girlfriend is in the picture, and she's fucking awesome, which makes the shipping situation complicated when the Changsu x Prince Jing energy is so strong.
Tumblr media
This is how she gets onto a horse:
Tumblr media
Here Mei Changsu is pretending that he is a dude she just met, rather than her long-lost fiance (who, reminder, had a medical trauma resulting in a totally different actor changed appearance).
Tumblr media
Gazing heatedly and with maximum intensity at a person is a good way to pretend you don’t know them.
Tumblr media
I think she’s fooled, don’t you?
She conveniently disappears for like 25 episodes in the middle of the show, which uncomplicates the shipping situation a bit, for a while, anyway.
Tumblr media
She has a best friend who's the Wuxia version of a tough lady cop, speaking of shipping.
There are a pair of young friends who share one brain cell and hang out with Mei Changsu, and who develop in interesting ways as the story progresses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's the guard captain who is an old friend who DOES know who Mei Changsu is, who's super hot and...not the sharpest nail in the horseshoe.
Tumblr media
Captain Handsome is the only guy who can beat the Kung Fu kid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Plot
Mei Changsu wants to clear the names and restore the honor of a whole lot of dead people--an entire army full of them--and the best way to do that is to put his friend in a position of power.
Tumblr media
He assembles a bat-team and then starts playing an extremely complex game of political Weiqi, driving opponents into impossible situations and taking them off the board one by one, while they work to do the same thing to his forces.
Tumblr media
The emotional connection between Mei Changsu and Prince Jing is hugely important to the story, but they don't spend most of their time together - they're working in different spheres toward a single goal, touching base often but not sharing many lighthearted moments or spending a lot of time socializing.
Tumblr media
So if you're craving a best-friends adventure story or a (covert) BL romance story, this isn't it. But the emotional journeys of the two main dudes are incredibly deep, and each of those journeys gets ample screen time.
Tumblr media
The M/F romance is also deeply important to the characters’ journeys but it’s not primarily about being together; it’s about working together toward a higher purpose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this a normal way to react when a woman you don’t really know brings you to visit the empty house of a condemned criminal you never met? Sure. Is it normal of her to randomly bring you to your own abandoned house when she just met you? Probably!
Tumblr media
Is it reasonable for a man to look this good in blue fur? No!
Fundamentally this is a plot-driven story, with really no filler -- story threads that seem unrelated all weave back into the main story, and stories about side characters tell us important information about the main characters.
Tumblr media
It’s a truly beautiful story about seeking justice and bringing peace to the souls of the dead--it’s not a revenge story, and Mei Changsu has a surprising amount of compassion for the people he opposes, even while he’s manipulating them into ruining their lives.
It's. Freaking. Awesome.

Chapter Three / Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a rush the following morning, Steve and Tony were busy checking over the jet being loaned for the mission. Meanwhile Pepper showed you around the giant Stark Towers. The last time you had been here you were unconscious, not remembering any of it. Pepper’s heels clicking against linoleum, while you rushed after the fast paced Alpha who was doing two tasks at once. But once she led you on the elevator, hitting some buttons, she tucked her tablet under her arm, turning her attention to you with a relaxed smile.
“Dr. Banner has been wanting to officially meet you.” She stated as an explanation for the elevator ride. Twiddling your fingers, you shuffled foot to foot a bit nervous, only knowing the doctor had been where Steve rushed you to first when Pierce injected you.
When the elevator door dinged and the two of you stepped out to what looked like a medical wing. A dark haired man stepped out while flipping through a chart muttering to himself when Pepper cleared her throat. “Bruce, you have a visitor.” His head lifted, blinking at them from over his glasses frames, confused as to who would want to intrude on him. But then recognition crossed his features and he snapped his clipboard shut, striding over.
“Y/N! Pepper told me Steve was coming back this way for help, and I was hoping he would bring you.” His hand popped out to shake yours. You welcomed it with a tilt of your head, drawing in his scent. A part of you recognized him, the hint of warmth and freshness.
“ Dr.Banner a pleasure… Steve told me what you had done for me, thank you for everything.”
Bruce sputtered a bit, giving a shrug. “Ahh, I wasn’t able to do much, just send you along to someone better able to handle what happened to you. Umm, do you have a few minutes? I just really would like to ask you a few questions about your experience. If you are okay with that of course.” He added almost shyly and you smiled reassuringly.
“I have no problem with that Dr.Banner.”
“Bruce please.” Bruce looked expectantly at Pepper who checked her watch and nodded.
“We got time, Tony will have Friday call for us when the jet is ready.” Bruce immediately turned on his heels and led the two of you towards his office.
Tumblr media
Steve went through the jet, checking all the gear stashed on board as well as settling in the controls chair to make sure he was familiar with everything before leaving Stark towers. Tony plopped in the one next to him, making the Alpha in Steve rumble at the intrusion but Steve was able to placate him.
“So off to Norway huh?” Tony leaned forward to enter the coordinates in the dash for the autopilot. “What's in Norway that can help you with everything?”
Steve growled as he continued going over the controls. “You saw the file Fury sent along Stark. You know exactly who is there.”
“Okay you got me.” Tony finished what he was doing and turned the chair to face Steve. “I also know he's basically a recluse now and the chance of you getting him to talk is almost nada, zip, zilch. What makes you think he's gonna spill what you need.”
“I have my ways…” Steve said coldly, his wolf growling softly at the other Alpha in his space.
Tony gave a mock shiver. “Alright alright… just be careful okay? I know we're not on the best terms Steve but I do have a lot of respect for what you are trying to do.”
Steve arched a brow and shook his head. “We’re not enemies Tony, I don’t happen to agree or appreciate that stunt you pulled with Ross. But I think now my stance on that shit is known. We can disagree and still be fine.” Tony next to him brushed it off while continuing with the switches, making his own adjustments to the system.
“I know Steve, it was still a shitty move on my part, bringing Ross into your home, where your mate was after everything that happened. But she certainly put me in my place.” He laughed, recalling how you kicked all of them out.
Steve glanced at Tony from the corner of his eye and rumbled out a “Thank you Stark, Y/N certainly isn't taking anyone's shit, not anymore.” Tony snorted in agreement to that statement.
“I don’t think they ever do, Pepper is the same damn way.”
Steve laughed in return, knowing full well that everything Tony said was accurate about Pepper Potts, Tony had chosen well for himself in Steve’s opinion. For all the tension between Steve and Tony, he respected the Alpha next to him, and knew that finding his packmates was just as important to Tony as it was to Steve. Not to mention finding those responsible for Happy’s murder. Steve turned his chair to face the other Alpha. “I’m sorry about what happened to Happy Tony. I know it’s hard to have lost someone who was family to you.”
Tony blinked at him, warring with his own feelings about everything that happened. Losing Happy so brutally had taken a toll on Tony, finding the body having been dumped just outside of his territory, he still hadn’t been able to fully come to terms with it. “Thank you. Finding the bastards who did that has become my main priority.” Clapping his hands together to end the topic, he moved to a stand. “You Rogers are ready to go, ready to Captain my jet?”
Steve waited till Tony moved out of his space before moving to follow him off the jet, keeping quiet about the further mention of Tony seeking out Happy’s killer. After seeing what had happened with Bucky and the rest, he already had his own sinking suspicions as to who killed Happy and he knew Tony did as well.
“More than ready to go.” Steve stated, coming down the steps off the jet. Tony spoke up right then.
“Friday, let Pepper and Y/N know that Captain Rogers is ready.” That caused Steve to roll his eyes and fold his arms over his chest.
“Seriously Tony?”
A smirk flashed, Tony winked at him. “Come on, I think it's a fitting title for you.”
Tumblr media
Bruce was furiously writing notes while you described to him what you remembered being under due to the drug Pierce had injected you with when the AI Friday announced that the jet was ready, as well as Captain Rogers. You and Pepper quirk a confused look at one another, and she rolled her eyes with a sigh. “That's gotta be Tony’s doing I'm sure.”
You nod in agreement, turning back to Bruce. “Looks like it's time for me to go Dr.Banner…”
“Bruce.” He was quick to interrupt and moved to a stand to shake your hand. “Thank you so much for this.” He tapped his pad of paper where he had all the notes jotted. “I will put them in my file to share with Shuri. All this is incredibly helpful knowing more about the serum used on you.”
Giving a vigorous shake back, you smiled genuinely at Bruce, you and your Little Wolf feeling quite relaxed with the man. “If I think of anything, I will be sure to send an email.” The Little Wolf flicked her tail in agreement, half listening while she was napping.
“Oh! Yes please do with anything you might remember, no bit of information is too small.”
Pepper walked out with you and joined you in the elevator. Reaching the top of Stark Towers, you both were greeted by Steve and Tony, who waited just inside the jet. As soon as you saw Steve, warmth washed over you, feeling that bond between you two hum happily, your wolves sought each other, in the moment they both were teasing each other, making your mood lift from having to leave once more. The genuine pleasure at seeing Steve melded that away, just as his own did, the wolves happiness being together melded with your own. Steve enclosed you in his arms, nuzzling the crown of your head a moment before questioning if you were all set.
“Tony Stark is funding another trip for us? I’m absolutely ready.” You joked as Steve let you go so you could turn to face Tony who scoffed at you.
“Don’t let Cap here defile my jet please!” Tony was sure to give you his signature hug, that made Steve rumble a bit although you instead laughed and gave a bop of your shoulder.
“No promises Stark. Pepper, thank you for showing me around your home.” Embracing her in a thank you.
“Stay safe and bring my jet back quickly, Cap.” Tony pipped up while walking off the jet with Pepper, cackling to himself at the finger Steve threw up while the doors shut you two in.
The Alpha muttered to himself while dropping into the pilot's seat and you were quick to join him on the opposite side. You buckled in while he flicked on buttons. “Captain Rogers?” you questioned watching him get the jet ready.
Steve rolled his eyes as he made sure everything was set and handed you a headset while fitting his own on, the jet rumbling to life around you. “Tony thinks he is very slick, giving nicknames. Apparently Cap is his new one for me.”
You smirked at him, winking as you settled the headset on and spoke into the microphone. “I think Captain Rogers has its benefits, Steve.”
His hand went around the handle and started to push it forward, edging the jet forward to take off, the spanse of New York City below you. Much like the night before, you marveled at the beauty only a city could offer. “You would Little One.”
A voice piped up over the channel, Tony coming over the comms. “I think your mate has a point Cap.”
Steve growled into the comm for a second while you started laughing in the seat next to him. “Tony! Get off this channel.”
“It's my jet, Rogers! I will listen in if I want.” He was about to continue when Steve took off his headset, setting the jet on autopilot with the coordinates.
You snickered into the system. “Sorry Tony, Steve is cutting you off. Bye Stark.” You effectively cut Tony off and slipped the head set off, setting it aside while you leaned forward to get a better look out the window, unbuckling in the process. “You know since I have been with you Steve, I have seen things I never thought I would. Look at this.” You directed your gaze at the expanse of the sky before you, baby blue as far as the eye could see, the skyline rushing closer till the two of you crossed over the cities edged, now nothing but the Atlantic underneath you. “Beautiful.”
Steve settled back to admire what you were looking at, letting some of his worries sink to the back of his mind. “It is… sometimes I forget you haven't seen all this before.” He held out his arm for you to join him, which you pushed from your seat and settled in his lap, his chin resting on your shoulder. “Do you remember much from the last time I showed you?”
You perch on his knee and look over the dash, worrying your lip. “Mmh barely.” Your eyes roved over the panels while Steve dragged the tip of his nose along the curve of your neck, inhaling against it and letting it settle him further. Both the man and Alpha wanted to enjoy the long flight with you.
“I guess we will be getting a crash course, Little One.” He rumbled happily while you seated yourself into a more comfortable position in his lap.
You looked over your shoulder at him, your eyes laughing at his remark and bringing the exact response he wanted. “Really Captain?”
Tightening his arm around your waist, he nipped at your lips with teasing affection. “Tony isn't the only funny one around here.”
Tumblr media
Steve spent a few hours describing the functions and some of how to fly. Together you both got to watch the sun going down and eventually you started napping in the copilot's seat, even though Steve tried to get you to go lay down in the back.
These quiet moments, Steve wandered back to his memories, the Alpha in his mind lifting his head from the Little Wolf’s back where he had laid to rest, flicking his ears back and forth a bit at Steve’s thoughts.
The first thing that came to memory was the stinging scent of smoke.
“Rogers, don't you dare go into that building!” Fury’s voice commanded Steve who stalled in the doorway, peering into Hydras base, nose flaring trying to catch scent of their missing comrades. “You are not commander in this mission.”
“But Buck and the rest might be in there… I'm going” Steve defied Fury, darting into the darkness and out of sight, Fury's voice echoing behind him.
“ROGERS! GET YOUR ASS BACK OUT HERE!”
Steve continued forward, letting his Wolf out enough to sharpen his senses. His eyes picking up the bit of light in the darkened hallways leading deeper into the compound, his eyes glimmer dangerously in the dark looking for any sign of movement. He could sense others nearby, friend or foe though he was unsure. Footsteps silent, Steve once in a while looking behind him tense to make sure no one knew he was there. Glances in rooms showed them abandoned, cleared in a haste to get out before Shield got there Steve was sure. Ahead he heard scuffles and growls, chains clanking and the sound of voices in hushed tones. The Wolf lowered to his belly, quivering in anticipation should Steve allow him to take over. He eased the door open with a creak when relief washed over him.
There men, most of them in large cages. Familiar scents washed over him and they all perked sensing Steve.
“Rogers is that you?” Someone muttered while Steve approached, searching for a key anywhere in a nearby desk.
“Yes, the rest of the troop is just outside. We haven't found anyone though. Where is everyone?”
“Bolted man, once they heard Fury was coming they grabbed their shit and left. They didn’t have the bodies to defend this place.” Dugan responded as he pushed to the front watching while Steve searched the desk. Steve opened the last drawer, cursing as he pushed aside papers and flung them to the side. Then he was rewarded with a ring full of keys. Rushing over, the two men tried sorting through them, Steve stuffing them one by one in the locks, quick to go to the next till they found another.
“They left us and their experiments.” Dugan continued filling Steve in while he tried to find the right keys. “Some messed up stuff, they are in the next room I think.”
The Alpha rumbled to catch Steve’s attention. <Bucky isn’t with them.> The mans head whipped up while the lock clicked finally, able to pry it open and release his packmates.
“Where is Buck?”
“Bucky… he was brought in there and never came back out.” another said, pointing at the door across the room.
The Alpha rumbled suddenly in an alert and Steve tensed and whipped around when an eerily sharp howl sounded through the building. Dugan pushed the door open, tensing as well. “That's one of them, their experiments.”
Steve wrangled the keys out of the lock and started to go down the line, unlocking each cage, shifters passing him to get outside.
“Fury, you have outcoming hostages, they are friendly, don't fire.” Steve spoke into the comm.
“I hear you Rogers.” Came Fury’s voice in a wave of static. “Any unfriendlies?”
“No, Dugan notified me they all bailed once they heard we were coming” Steve responded before turning to his friend. “Dugan, get the rest out of here, I’m going to keep looking.”
His friend bared his teeth at him, bristling at the notion. “You don’t know what's back there Rogers.”
“If I have to, I will retreat, get these men out of here. I’m not leaving anyone behind.” Steve growled back deeper, the Alpha in him asserting himself and the man backed off with a disgruntled nod.
Waiting to make sure they were going to leave, Steve approached the door cautiously, using his senses to pick up what might be on the other side, who might be on the other side. He was praying for a miracle, because nothing but death filled his senses as he eyed the door, drawing in any scent left behind. It was all jumbled, multitudes of men and women have passed through the threshhold, making it almost impossible to pinpoint any specific person. “Well… let's see what's on the other side.” Steve shouldered through the door and a lab stretched before him, ominous equipment stretched on either side. A groan came from somewhere ahead and Steve paused till he heard it again. It was so distinct to him that the hair on the back of his neck prickled, the Alphas own fur raising as well along the ridge of his back, it was another Alpha, but this one they knew.
“Oh thank fucking god.” Steve uttered as he rushed forward to find Bucky strapped down and Steve started pulling at the straps holding him down. Wires were strapped all over Bucky's neck and chest and stretched to attach to some equipment, Steve started yanking them off as well when finally Bucky started to come around.
“S-Steve?” His eyes sharpened and he clutched at Steve's uniform, worried that he wasn't real.
“It’s me Buck, we’re getting out of here.” Steve tried assuring him, keeping his voice light and calm even though he was far from that. He had never seen Bucky so scared. Suddenly the howling started again from the back of the room and both men glanced that way.
“Whoever it is just keeps doing that.” Bucky muttered when a voice crackled in the comms.
“In-ing” then static sounded in Steve's ear, making him wince as he pressed his hand over his ear.
“Repeat? What was that Fury?”
“In-oming! G-t Ou-” The building started to shake and lights started zapping and popping around them.
“We ca-t hold hi-, Get O-” Fury yelled into the comm but Steve had to rip it out, electricity zapping through it and breaking it up too much. Bucky gripped Steve tighter, his pupils blown in his panic.
“What the fuck is it now?!”
“I don't know… but we gotta get out of here.” Bucky started pulling Steve towards the exit, but whatever was in the back rattled its cage with a savage snarl, and Steve couldn’t leave who ever or what ever it was behind. He stuttered to a stop, Bucky pausing at the door with a shake of his head.
“Man, we got to go… there isn't enough time.”
Steve’s hands dropped to his pants and felt madly for the keys he had stuffed in his pocket earlier. “We can’t leave him in there Buck.” He waved his hand. “Go, I got this.”
Bucky cursed but held tight, refusing to leave Steve behind.
Steve raced towards the cage to free whatever was inside, shoving the key he used before into the lock and it clicked to open. Glowering green eyes blinked at him from the shadowed part of the cage, but he couldn't make anything else out in the seconds he got the door open. Bucky was screaming his name and when he managed to get the door to swing wide, a bundle of black sprang on his chest, bared white fangs yawning open going for Steve’s throat….
“Steve- Steve?” Your voice cut through and he shook his head a bit to clear it before looking at you.
“Sorry, I thought you were sleeping Little One.”
“I was, but the computer started beeping on the dash.” You pointed to a blinking light and Steve leaned forward to check the system, smiling.
“We're here and just in time to. Look” He pointed out the window at the faint purple in the skyline, the sun easing up beyond the cloud cover to turn a brilliant red and orange of dawn. When Steve took over, he started to drop the jet down. Below the clouds the land turned a deep almost emerald wild green shimmering with mist stretching like tendrils to a spiderweb over the land, still in the early morning phase of waking up.
You weren't lying earlier when you said you saw things you had never expected. From the rainforest and safari of Wakanda to the lush greenery of Norway, you soaked it all in with awe. So long spent locked away in a room, gazing with longing at the upper windows that offered nothing more than peeks of the sky. Now you soared over the world with your Mate. Even the Little Wolf was in awe, slithering away from where the Alpha was half sleeping and prancing excitedly with joy at the adventure. The Alpha stretched out, arching his back and padded heavily after her, nuzzling her affectionately while her tail waved back and forth, unable to stay still in her excitement.
“The Little Wolf is excited.” You told Steve and he winked at you.
“I can feel it. What do you say we take her down?”
Steve easily maneuvered the Stark Jet down to land in a wide open field bordering the ocean. You followed him towards the doors swinging open and already wolves appeared from the long grass with tilted heads checking out the newcomers. You sidled up to Steve’s side a moment, watching the wolves dart back out of sight in the tall grass and heard their howls break the silence, announcing their arrival. It was a welcome sound, you couldn't detect any hostility in the notes. But their songs were so different. Sounded much older, almost like a language all its own.
Steve cupped his hand and gave a sharp “We’re here” yip, that was answered resoundingly from all around you, the pack having circled you two and remained just out of sight. His arm lowered around your shoulders and you held your breath, unsure of what to expect. A bellow came, joyful and loud as a tall blonde man, even taller than Steve stepped out, his arms opened wide in greeting.
“Why what a surprise! Are you here for the Asgard hospitality? I didn't think anything would ever get you to leave your corner in the world.” The over sized man strode towards them rather quickly, and the closer he came the more your eyes widened. You didn't think you had seen anyone who was as bigger then Steve in stature. He clasped Steve's shoulder and directed his joyful gaze down at you. “And who is this lovely maiden you bring with you?”
“If I could be there, trust me I would. This is my mate, Y/N. Y/N, this is Thor, the Alpha here.” Steve protectively wrapped an arm around you, even though you wore his mark for Thor to see, Alphas always had a bit of tension between them no matter how much their human counterparts tried to quell it.
Thor though seemed unaware of such a vibe as he beamed down at you warmly. “Well Little Pup, welcome to Asgard.” He took your hand in a vigorous pump and you couldn't help but warm right up to him and his exuberant nature. “We run free and feast like we are in the halls of the Old Kings here.” He swept the both of you down the path and all around his wolves started to howl and dance in a joyful manner, playing among each other much like they were participating in the Full Moon Run. “Now Rogers does tell me what has been going on across the water? It's been a while since I've visited there.”
“Afraid we have been having some issues.” Steve started, filling Thor in on the recent attacks, taking apart the packs and capturing the Alpha’s. The viciousness in the attacks and the destruction left behind. Thor listened patiently until Steve mentioned Hydra. That's when he paused, you and Steve having taken a few steps ahead but noticed he wasn't with you. You turned to see him glowering.
“That's why you are here, Rogers, isn't it? Because of Hydra. He wont talk to you about it you know.”
Steve sighed and you had a sinking feeling about the situation, not fully understanding what was going on.
“I have to try Thor, your brother was the only one who was able to break from the collars power and the mind shit Hydra does to their victims.”
“He barely interacts with any of us Steve, he mostly stays as his animal out there.” Thor retorted, the sky started to darken slightly and you frowned to yourself at the sudden change in atmosphere while glancing up.
Steve sighed, letting his arms hang loose at his sides to show Thor he was no threat to him. “I know Odinson, trust me. I wouldn’t be here if there was any other way. Packs, families are all being killed off, Alphas removed. How long till you think it will be till it comes over here?” Steve pointed out and Thor’s face twisted and he looked away.
“It won’t be like before, I won’t let it.”
“You don't know that… Shield risked sending the Howling Commando’s over here to help your people, now I’m asking for your help. Just let me try talking to him?”
Your heart twisted as you saw Thor try to control his emotions on his face and you reached out to touch his arm, Steve for once kept quiet, inhaling deeply to keep himself in check. “Hydra really hurt him, didn't they? If it's too much we will just leave. Right Steve?”
“If you tell me absolutely not Thor, she’s right. We will leave right now and not bother you again.”
Thor glanced back at you, his eyes searching yours and you could see everything he was doing was about protecting this person. You bit at your lip nervously, you knew you were invading this Alpha’s space but stepped in closer anyways. “Please let us try? We just want to save those we still have left. Our packmates are fighting a losing battle with Hydra, we don't want to lose them.”
A sigh escaped the man and he glanced over your head to Steve. “You're lucky you have her you know… she’s softened me. Slightly.” You stepped back towards Steve, who now laid his hand around your waist, chuckling softly.
“You really don’t know half of it, she has a gift.” You wriggled in his hold a bit but he just tightened his fingers against you. “Thank you Thor for letting us try.”
He shrugged at you both with a shake of his head. “I'm still saying that he wont talk to you, but I will show you where he stays when he is not hunting.”
Steve gave a nod of appreciation while you reached for his hand and gave a light squeeze. “Thank you Thor.” You gave your own sentiments.
The man looked at the two of you a moment, his eyes falling to your linked hands and motioned across the moors. “This way…” He cupped his hands, giving another howling song and the wolves joined them, spreading around Thor, these wolves were even larger than Mountain Packs wolves, giant beasts that were moving gracefully around there Alpha. You could feel the ground beneath your footfalls vibrating from there movements, the lush grass swishing to add to the melody of it all. Above them the thunder still rumbled with strong booms that cackled with electricity but had retreated from the fierceness it had flared up earlier.
Your Little Wolf kneaded her paws next to the Alpha, lifting her head to inhale the air around them, it spoke of a wildness she was not used to. Something feral that did not adhere to normal pack constraints. The Alpha rumbled next to her, now and then dropping his muzzle to his mate to reassure her, but the pull to shift for both of them was strong.
You could tell Steve felt it as well, the way he angled his body close to yours in a protective manner, his hand moving from a simple hold to pressing against your hip, wrapping around you. You tilted your head up towards Steve, your confusion clouding your features. He dropped his head to press a nip to your neck, whispering softly just for you. “I will explain later.”
Thor paused in front of a wood that looked ancient, the gnarled trees had stories to tell. Shadows played deeper beyond the edge, enticing you to wander in. Your Little Wolf huffed slightly, breaking the enchantment you had fallen into.
<This isn't just a forest Y/N, something powerful lives here.> Her ears flattened and you could feel her unease and the Alpha’s wariness sharpening, his ears pricked forward before twisting listening.
What is it? You questioned your Little Wolf and she whined unsure. You felt the Alpha slip away, in the same moment Steve tilted his face up, his nostrils flaring. You knew he was scenting for any kind of danger that might come from the old forest.
Next to you Thor boomed out loudly, making it echo. “Come out Loki!” You and the Little Wolf perked, hearing the woods shift and groan, shadows danced closer when a streamlined black shadow emerged to turn solid, the beast was streamlined. His size shifting to grow larger in the presence of you and Steve, a sharp pointed muzzle turned towards you and ears twitched with interest as he took you both in. You were a bit taken aback when you saw Loki, but he paused just after the forest ended and you could see the tip of his nose twitching, green eyes with almost emerald qualities glinting with the bit of light that somehow seemed to filter from the thunderous clouds still rumbling above you.
What do we have here? An omega to Rogers? A true Omega? Oh what a prize he really does have here. I wonder if he knows… A voice tickled your senses and the Little Wolf spun in your mind, searching for the intrusion. The Alpha returned to the Little Wolf, curling around her with a growl and a laugh echoed through you, not one that belonged to you.
“Steve…” You whined a bit and he furrowed his brow looking at you, confused as well as to what was going on, feeling you through your bond.
“Rogers is here to talk with you Loki, come out and quit playing games Brother.” Thor folded muscular arms across his chest and the black canine shimmered an emerald green while disappearing in a wisp of shadow and a sharp yip barking out from nowhere.
A resounding defiant No.
Thor shook his head at Steve. “Loki won't interact with Alphas short of me Steve, not since Shield pulled him from Hydra.”
The Little Wolf unweaved from the Alpha when she heard Thor.
<Y/N, we’re not an Alpha. Maybe he will talk to us.>
Steve would never allow us to go in there alone.
<It's the only way, Loki won't talk to Steve. He's too much of a threat to him. Say something, that big Alpha doesn't seem scared that Loki will hurt us.>
You took a deep breath and while Thor and Steve discussed other options, you turned to the men, catching there attention. “Let me go in and talk to him.” Steve immediately barked out a no, but Thor tilted his head, considering what you were saying. “I'm not an Alpha, he won't be threatened by me, right Thor?” You pressed for an answer from the man and he nodded.
“Your Little Pup has a point, Rogers. Loki wouldn't hurt her. I will escort her inside so she’s protected the whole way.”
Steve felt his chest expand as he drew up to his full height. “I'm not letting Y/N go in by herself, I know you trust your brother, but I don't.” His eyes flared yellow, the Alpha close to the surface with concerns of your safety. You could see that he was winding up to call all this off when you reached up to grasp his face between your palms, tilting his head to look directly at you.
“Alpha trust me, I know I can do this.” You stressed to him, the furrow in his forehead deepening as you knew he was at war with himself. “If anything is wrong, I will call you. Let me do this.” His hands circled your wrists and you felt that war inside of him. The same one where it was ingrained in him to keep you safe at all costs. It was all right there, flooding through the bond you two shared, your confidence, his worry. Steve huffed slightly before lifting his gaze from yours.
“Thor, give me a moment with my mate please.” Steve requested and Thor moved away, closer towards the border of his brother’s forest, his broad back turned towards the two of you while he waited. “Little One, if something happens. Loki isn't a normal wolf…”
“I could tell that as soon as we came near here.” You let your fingers press through his beard on his cheeks and slide down to his neck, sure to rub his scent against you in the process as well as sharing calming touches. “But he has the answers we need, Alpha.”
Steve knew you were right, but the inner battle was fierce. The Alpha wanted to protect his mate, an animalistic need to not let you go into that forest, every fiber of his being was on edge because of it. His human side knew you could do this and get the answer to save their pack mates. You were confident, he needed to trust you like you asked.
<Don't you let her go in there with that Alpha. What is Loki going to do to stop us.>
Loki is not all Wolf as you well know, he won't tolerate the intrusion.
The Alpha bristled aggressively, licking his muzzle over and over nervously. <We won't be there to protect her should he turn on her.>
But Thor will be… You know as much as I do that he wouldn't let any get hurt in his care.
“Trust me Alpha.” Your fingers trailed along the mark you had left on him, your mark that made him belong to you. The most sacred of bonds a mated pair could share and made in the utmost trust that you two would take care of each other.
She is asking us to trust her. If we can’t trust in our mate, then what hope do we have? Steve was firm and the Alpha had to concede to him.
Steve moved his hands to your face, cupping the most important part of his life gently in his palms as he inhaled deeply and tipped his forehead against yours. “Little One, if anything happens, anything at all, call for me. I will come get you.”
The corners of your mouth lifted and he saw it go to your eyes, pride and strength that your Alpha was trusting you to go in his place. “Of course Alpha.” You lifted to catch his lips, nuzzling your nose against his. “I know you will come for me if I need you.” You embraced him fiercely, Steve let his nose bury in the crown of your head and then let you go against his instincts. The Wolf rumbled, anxious as he paced watching you reach Thor. His eyes reached the other Alphas. “Thor…”
“I understand what is at stake. No harm will come to her, I swear it.”
You looked so tiny next to the man, your head tilted up to look at him with a warm smile and Thor's tilted down to look back at you. Steve watched the same warm smile cross Thor's face, making your mate proud of you, how easily you had already won Thor over. You had come so far from the runaway he first met and your warmth spread so easily to those around you. Maybe Loki wouldn't be immune to you.
Tumblr media
The moment you stepped into the forest with Thor, it darkened. Looking over your shoulder, the emerald green sea of the moor was almost a picture racing away to be enclosed by old tree trunks. You licked your lips nervously and folded your arms around your body, sure to keep up with Thor. He was confident in his strides, the darkening vibrant woods was just as much home for him as the windswept open land you two left behind.
The Little Wolf was curious in the new surroundings, pacing and keeping a keen eye on everything you were hurriedly passing by trying to keep up with Thor.
You weren't wrong that the forest had a life all its own. It seemed to breathe around you, moss stretched across large boulders that sprang tendrils of plant life curling upwards to try and reach sunlight. Heavy thick trees were bristling against your palm and almost seemed to heave in sighs at your gentle touch. Thor glanced back at you, golden tendrils clinging to his face now and his eyes crinkled in watching you loosen from your fear into awe.
“You feel it, right?” He chuckled and you withdrew your hand from the tree back to your body.
“What do you mean?”
“Its soul, the magic in it all.” He braced against a tree and inhaled deeply. “All of this is very alive as you and I, it's old and has been standing long before we claimed this as home.”
You tentatively touched a nearby tree again, feeling tingles in your palms, making you shudder a bit. “It is certainly… like home, but not quite.”
Thor nodded with a wink. “Still a baby over there, your packs are just starting to write the stories that will live on after you are gone. One day they will have a life of their own, just like this one.”
Your brows quirked at his words. He's a funny man isn't he.
Your Little Wolf curled her tail around herself as she sat down. <He is, but I like him. This place feels like we belong here.>
There does seem to be a certain calling to be here…
You two continued on and you risked another statement. “Loki is not like you, is he?”
Thor shook his head. “No, he is not. But you have no need to worry Little Wolf.” He paused while he glanced around, inhaling sharply. “It's just me and Y/n, Brother, come out of hiding.”
“I'm not hiding, I can't help that you are not a more observant Brother.” A cool voice came from above and your eyes shot up to a long legged man lounging in the branches, looking almost like he couldn't be bothered. Thor snorted impatiently and motioned towards you.
“Y/N has some questions for you.”
Vivid green eyes fell on you and a cool grin formed as he moved to sit up and slide down. He walked in such a predatory way, almost circling you. The Little Wolf's hackles raised at him and you hitched yourself straighter. You felt that tingle in your mind again.
Why is it your Alpha is sending you in here for Omega? My brother is right, you are just a little pup aren’t you, so new to the world...
You snarled out loud, glaring at him. “You are not welcome in my mind, and I’m no pup.” And a quick withdrawal left you and Little Wolf alone once more. You could feel your Alphas curling warmth in your mind, even if he couldn't be with you.
Respect crossed Loki's features and he bowed his head. “Forgive my intrusion. It's not often I'm sought out, except by Thor that is.” Thor barked out a deep bellowing laugh, clasping your shoulder.
“You can't use your tricks on this one, she is small but fierce. Her Alpha has great respect for her.”
Loki gave a slight sniff, his green eyes sliding over you as he remarked. “I’m afraid you are right.”
You shrugged out of Thor’s grasp now, wanting the answers you came for. “Loki, our packmates have been collared by Hydra. Steve seems to think that you know how to break from their control. Please, is there any way to break the hold they have on them.” Loki suddenly appeared next to you, his fingers catching a lock of your hair and pressing it between his fingers for a moment as if further inspecting you. You jumped and pulled away from him, making Thor growl a warning at him. But you narrowed your gaze at him, knowing well that he was testing you. You had seen it all before while living with Pierce. “Don't touch me Loki, only Steve is allowed to. How did you do that anyways, appear next to me?”
His fingers swirled slightly, green wisps dancing around his nimble long fingers. “Magic Dear. I'm part Coyote, a Trickster. Sure your Alpha told you?”
You shook your head. “No… He doesn't talk much about his life in Shield.” Your Little Wolf crooned in comfort, knowing sometimes you were worried about how he would be so vague about it.
“Well it was a dark time for the shifters.” Loki admitted and glanced at his brother. “I don't much like discussing that time either.” You clenched your jaw a moment, worried he was going to flat out refuse your requests but he dipped his head. “But for you Dear, you boldly come out here without your Alpha, that deserves to have your questions answered. Come…” He beckoned to you and led you away, Thor was not far behind. Soon a small dwelling came into view and the door yawned open, which Loki stepped in.
Inside was different from what you were expecting. Books lined shelves upon shelves, seeming to go on forever. Plush chairs were dotted near a fireplace and wooden carvings dotted the entire area. Wood shavings littered the floor, making you smile a bit because it reminded you of your Alpha, the fresh wood scent enveloping you. The place was cozy, almost like something from a story book. Of course, this whole experience was making you feel that way, like some sort of fairytale your mother would have told you before bed. Thor heavily fell into a nearby chair, quiet as his brother waved at a seat in offering to you.
Loki approached a shelf and whispered under his breath till a box fell into his hands. Easing it open, he pulled out a collar. Silver strands weaved together into an intricate design. “This one was mine, but it stopped working on me after a time. So it was just useless metal. Why Hydra had kept me caged when Steve found me.” He handed it to you and you were caught by surprise at how light it was. Studying it closer, you could see twists of coarse black fur wedged through it where it sat on Loki’s neck.
“Why did it stop working?” You asked curiously and Loki settled down in one of the seats.
“Simple, I willed for my freedom. Most of the wolves have such a strong desire to follow an Alpha. Even the Alphas themselves can be forced to follow a stronger one should they come across one. Hydra didn't know I wasn't a Wolf, not completely. I can't be controlled in the same way for long. But it's that simple in how to get your wolves back. Your Alpha has to challenge them for control. Assert that he is stronger than the one controlling them with the collars.”
You handed his collar back to him and Loki flicked his wrist to send it back to the box, the box flashing away in the same green blaze you had seen earlier. “That's all it takes?” You asked incredulously. Loki shrugged with a nod.
“Hydra though is led by someone who has a power that no Wolf should have. It's how they are able to control such a large and secret organization for such a long time. But such power can always be challenged.” He drifted off, looking away into the fire he had burning in the fireplace.
You let the silence sit for a few moments before speaking up.
“Why wouldn't you talk to Steve?”
Loki gave a slight roll of eyes. “I don't care for Alpha’s, they always feel the need to challenge and dominate. I've dealt with that enough in my life. I choose to live on the edges of my own Pack, still a member should Thor need my assistance and the rest leave me in peace.”
“Then why me? You seemed interested in me being an Omega.” The Little Wolf stopped her pacing for just a moment, head tilted in curiosity.
“Because true Omegas do not need to dominate or be controlled by anyone.” Loki turned towards you, his head tilting into your direction. “You might always submit to your Alpha, but that's a choice you and your wolf make together, consciously or not. If you were to ever truly want to defy him, you easily could. It's why you were able to make me leave when I was exploring your mind.” You rolled your eyes a bit at the trickster, clearly not believing him. A life time of being made to submit to Pierce against your will and the recent incidents with Steve... you felt he had you mistaken. “ You can roll your eyes at me all you want Little Pup, but I know what I’m talking about. Omega’s can be a threat to Alpha’s or for the right one, there everything. Really depends on the Alpha they are connected to. So I like you Little Omega, you are a challenge for me.” He winked and you rolled your eyes, but couldn't help the smile you gave to him. After all was said and done, you liked the Trickster.
“Is there anything else you can tell me? How did you get the collar off?” You asked and Loki motioned towards Thor.
“That was me. After Fury contacted me that Loki was with the Howling Commando’s Unit, I went to bring him home. I can provide you two with a special knife made to deal with unnatural made materials.” Loki rubbed at his face and his front door sprang open, a rush of air billowing into the dwelling.
“Now I have answered your questions Omega, I can feel your Alpha pacing my border anxious. It's getting on my nerves. Return to him so he can settle back down.”
You nodded, letting your senses open a bit and sure enough Steve was anxious, although far physically, you could feel him. Nodding as you approached Loki, you held out your hand to him. He eyed it a moment, and then slid his own in yours respectfully to give a shake. “Perhaps soon we will cross paths again, Little Omega.”
“Perhaps we will Trickster.” You bid a final goodbye and now you left a bit more at ease, having the information you and Steve needed to save your family.

Vampire/Human AU
(Slight NSFW, angst)
Thinking about vampire HC who owns a vampire-friendly bar with humans who apply as donors to supply fresh blood for vampires willing to pay the expensive prices. When a human with beautiful amber eyes, soft facial features, and blood that smells absolutely delectable, walks in, every vampire whips their heads towards the door. The human approaches one of the staff, YY, to inquire about becoming a donor. HC watches as the enticing morsel follows YY into a room to finalize his application.
Right after the human leaves thirty minutes later–YY probably having said it would take a few days to find him a match–HC pulls YY aside, demanding to have a look over the papers the new donor filled out. After a quick scan, HC shoves the papers back to YY with a click of his tongue,
“No need to find him a match. He’s mine.”
A human whose blood smells heavenly, who has never been bitten or even nipped by a vampire. HC wants to corrupt him. Ruin him.
The next night, HC has the human, XL, meet him in his personal feeding room. There’s a luxurious velvet couch to the side, a pristine glass table with fancy wine and glasses, and a king-sized bed with crimson silk laid upon the mattress.
HC, like most vampires, typically feeds while stimulating their donors. This can be done with something as simple as kissing or full-on intercourse. Not only does this relax the human’s nerves so they won’t tense up before being bitten, but the toxins injected into their system after being bitten feels incredibly euphoric, serving as a kind of aphrodisiac. Many humans donate their blood in this way for the sole reason of attaining this heightened sense of pleasure.
But as soon as XL enters the room in front of HC, his mind freezes as he sees the bed.
“I’m a virgin,” he blurts out, wide eyes panicked as he looks at the vampire. HC raises his eyebrow, unperturbed.
“We can work with that.”
XL gulps.
“I’ve also never kissed anyone.”
HC runs a tongue along his sharp fangs.
“Do you want to change that?” The vampire asks, walking up behind the human, pressing his chest against XL’s back. HC hears XL’s heart rate pick up at the proposition. It’s an unspoken yes, though XL also imperceptibly nods his head. He does not see HC’s lips spread into a vicious grin. However, XL does feel lips brush against the shell of his ear, sending shivers down his spine.
“Use your words, precious. Do you want to be kissed? Want to be touched, experience pleasure beyond comprehension?” HC murmurs, skimming his lips across XL’s nape. “I can fuck you too. Push into your little body as I sink my fangs into your neck. I’d place them right here-“ HC taps XL’s jugular, the human jerking to the side with a gasp. “-oh? So sensitive. All the better. I can make you feel so good.”
XL’s breath quickens, ever so slightly leaning back into HC’s tall frame. HC leans forward to catch a glimpse of those doe eyes regarding him with caution. Oh, how he wants to eat this human alive. HC turns XL around by his shoulders. He lowers his head to bump foreheads with XL, forcing the human to look into his red-tinged eyes.
“Is that a yes?”
XL blinks those doe eyes once, then twice.
“Yes.”
HC brings his hand up to brush a hair away from the human’s head.
“Wonderful.”
***
XL is at the point in his life when he lost everything. He chose to pursue a career outside of his parents’ embroidery business despite being expected to take over the shop after college. Abandoning college altogether, XL went off on his own to chase his dream to become a singer.
A few years later, where XL was provinces away from home, XL’s parents’ business had gone under, devastating them as they could no longer pay for their medical bills. Upon hearing the news, XL rushed back home to take care of them. It seemed they had kept their declining health conditions under wraps. They were too prideful to admit their weakening physical states; they also did not want to guilt XL into giving up on his ambitions to take care of them.
XL’s parents lasted one year before passing away, his father first due to prostate cancer, his mother one month later after succumbing to exhaustion and grief. XL lost their home along with the shop merely a week later, unable to pay off the debt. His parents had used up their savings for their medical expenses and XL had been scraping by as a musician for years. Additionally, there was no one he could confide in. He had lost contact with his friends as he moved from city to city, busking on streets, attempting to catch the attention of music labels.
XL was utterly alone. There were days when not even music could bring an ounce of comfort. However, music was the thing that kept him sane between the various side jobs he managed to pick up to keep him off the streets.
As if the fates decided XL had had enough bad luck for a lifetime, a CEO of a fairly well-known label offered him a business card after a busking session. It was JW of Capital Records who gave XL hope of achieving his dream. XL spent most of his late 20s under the label, training and practicing and producing. He had the chance to record a couple of singles and one mini-album–which he didn’t get to participate much in the production side–but other than that, XL didn’t make it far. He was tremendously overworked and yet, still discarded to the side.
Wondering why he wasn’t provided the opportunities other artists received to further their careers, XL scheduled a one-on-one meeting with the CEO to ask what he was lacking. JW had insisted he could give XL more opportunities if XL could offer something more than just his serene vocals and pretty face.
The unspoken suggestion that XL offer up his body pierced his heart with yet another stake. Overwhelming disappointment and betrayal crashed into XL, but perhaps he should have known better that the whole situation was too good to be true. XL vehemently rejected this idea, angering JW who eventually tore XL down to the point of a medical emergency that allowed him to leave the agency without repercussions.
At age thirty-two, XL was left with no family, mental and physical trauma, and a dying will. Ironically enough, the song lyrics he’d written after experiencing so much loss were the closest thing to making music he’d gotten. But in the end, XL still felt like a failure.
Now in Xi’an, XL was left with limited options to earn money for rent. He already worked two part-time jobs in addition to writing music—though even time set aside for this has dwindled.
One night, as XL was walking home after closing up the convenience store, he saw the neon lights of the sign “Ghost City.” He’s heard many things about this club and is no stranger to the existence of nonhuman creatures roaming amongst human society. After hours of research, XL decided to apply to become a blood donor. It’s not like he had a better option that paid more anyway.
XL’s hope to somehow redeem his past actions has all but fizzled out. He doesn’t expect a vampire like HC to care about his comfort or consent when feeding, though HC still prioritizes these things for some reason.
XL has never looked at his body and thought about the best ways to pleasure himself. HC shows him how. HC caresses and kisses XL like he’s worth being handled with care; HC also invades XL’s body as a threat to break it, broadcasting a vampire’s strength, speed, and endurance in the bedroom.
XL can go as far as to say he even looks forward to his time with HC. In between a busy work life and dealing with people who would rather look the other way than give him the time of day, XL’s mind and body steadily weaken.
It starts with memory loss, where XL can’t clearly remember the conversations he’d had the day before. One of the reasons this develops is because he goes through many days without having anyone to tell about his day. It’s like the life XL lives is so insignificant, nothing about it is worth remembering.
Then, it’s the lack of eating. Most of XL’s money goes towards rent, essentials, and groceries. But he’s not a great cook. And he’s already drained by the time he gets home after working both jobs and visiting Ghost City. XL’s stress doesn’t help, adding to the fatigue that gradually shuts his body down.
While HC might not be able to taste a difference in XL’s blood, he does notice how frail the human moves around. How delayed XL responds, more so than he should be–even as a human. XL has scheduled more visits: three times a week this time. However, his words become less. He stops telling the little stories that brought a small smile to his face. XL doesn’t even mention the songs he’s been working on lately.
HC forces himself to ask about them after an especially rough coupling.
“How’s the songwriting going, darling?” HC asks quietly. He props his elbow upon his pillow, resting his cheek on his hand as he intently observes the human struggling to catch his breath, eyelids fluttering.
“I haven’t written anything new,” XL breathily answers. HC purses his lips. He ducks down to affectionately tongue at the skin his fangs pierced.
“No? In how long?” HC asks. XL sighs heavily.
“Maybe three weeks.”
HC doesn’t know what to say to that. He’s not one to console anybody. No one had afforded him that luxury, and naturally, he did not grant anyone else his concern. The silence that follows is unbearable.
***
The next time XL visits, he’s the one to initiate their first kiss. HC growls happily against his human’s lips, pinning him against the closed door of his private room. XL moans obscenely as HC languidly licks into his mouth. His arms desperately wrap around HC’s neck to bring him closer.
“Someone’s eager,” HC says with a chuckle as he pulls back. XL instantly attaches his lips to the vampire’s jaw, peppering light kisses along the pale skin. HC can’t help but think he’s taught his little human well. XL hums while trailing his lips back to HC’s, capturing them in a kiss that’s the sweetest one yet.
HC should’ve noticed how unstable XL’s legs seemed, how dreadful the bags under his eyes looked before indulging in their bedroom activities. He should’ve kept track all along of how thin XL is, how much more skin and bone he had become. HC is certainly not one to intrude on someone else’s life and scrutinize all their choices. But he should’ve said something sooner.
Maybe then, XL’s heart wouldn’t have stuttered so violently, or completely stopped beating for five counts.
HC watches in horror as XL’s eyes roll into the back of his head. His human’s body goes limp in his arms, collapsing into HC’s chest. When XL’s heart beat starts up again, it’s very weak. There’s a noticeable abnormality in its rhythm.
HC quickly gathers XL in his arms and speeds to the bed. He sits back against the pillow, placing XL to recline against his front. HC hooks his arms around XL’s middle from behind, anxiously listening to XL’s irregular heartbeat that seems like it takes all of his human’s energy to pump. Luckily, XL awakens a few minutes later. He registers a cold embrace and warm puffs of breath lingering near his ear.
“Did I pass out?” XL wheezes out, unconsciously melting into the body behind him.
“Yes,” HC says tightly. “Your heartbeat is uneven. Something is wrong.”
XL can’t tell if he’s imagining it but that sounded like worry in the vampire’s tone.
“Oh.”
HC inhales sharply.
“You just fainted, Xie Lian. Hell, your heart just stopped for a few seconds, and all you have to say is ‘oh?’” HC grinds out.
So he is upset. XL swallows thickly, not wanting to escalate things and further upset the vampire.
“It’s okay,” XL says. “I’m okay-“
“No. You’re not,” HC interrupts.
XL takes a deep breath, wincing slightly as HC tightens his arms around his hips. He’s more sensitive than normal, XL realizes. Before XL can defend himself further, HC grasps XL’s chin and turns his head to face the vampire.
“You’re hiding something from me,” he states. He hears XL’s heart speed up. “There’s no use in lying. I can tell you’ve grown weaker since you first came.”
“Well, I have been donating my blood to a certain vampire for a few months now. I’m bound to be a bit weak in my legs,” XL replies as a matter of factly. He means to poke fun at the situation rather than acknowledge the severity of it. HC knows this because he’s done it numerous times himself. But when XL does it, it makes HC’s blood boil.
“Are you saying I am causing this- this deterioration in your health?” HC asks tensely. XL lets out a gasp, whirling around in HC’s arms, immediately backpedaling.
“No! No, not at all.”
HC’s eyes assess his human who trembles slightly in his arms. He cradles XL in between his legs, hands shifting XL further up his body so he can rest his head on HC’s chest. HC gently pets XL’s hair, an action that was uncharacteristic of him months ago, before XL had walked through the entrance of his bar.
XL gently smiles in an attempt to placate the vampire.
HC’s eyes flash a frightening scarlet.
“I don’t believe you.”
XL’s face crumples.
“It’s true! I’ve just been really busy is all. Work has been hectic and- and-“ gone is the innocence that HC once saw in XL’s doe eyes, instead replaced by stress and utter brokenness that alarms the vampire to no end. A voice in the back of HC’s head snarls that those emotions had always been behind XL’s eyes; they were simply better hidden, and HC had been too lust-driven to notice.
XL continues his rambling, frantically shaking his head. “-I took some extra shifts because I needed the money to pay for some water damage that flooded half my apartment. I’m fine—truly.“
If HC had a beating heart, it would have dropped down to his stomach at the sudden realization. His fingers dig into the paper-thin skin of XL’s hips, then trace up the bony knobs of his spine.
“You’re not eating right.”
“Wait- S-san Lang-“
The nickname HC had asked XL to call him is hurdled back into his face like a stone aimed to shatter. It sounds like a cry for help.
“And you’re not getting enough sleep,” HC concludes with a disapproving frown. His eyes now glow a deep crimson, matching the silken sheets that HC ensures are in perfect condition every time XL visits.
“Fuck, XIE LIAN, you know you need proper nutrition and rest to recover from each night you spend with me!” HC is nearly shouting now, voice wavering out of his control. Who knew another creature could make him feel so strongly?
“I-I am!”
“I SAID NOT TO LIE TO ME. I CAN TELL WHEN YOU’RE NOT BEING HONEST,” HC explodes, spatting those words with a poison that he often uses with uncooperative subordinates, but never directed at XL before.
Tears glisten in XL’s eyes as he’s cornered with no way out, no relief from the building pressure that suffocates him. Right now, after everything XL has been through, this seems to be his tipping point. He never expected HC to care this much. Or perhaps HC is just concerned his reliable supply of blood is flaking out on him, just when he’s had a feasible taste.
XL is sure HC has plenty of other donors to feed on. It’s not like XL is particularly special in that way. Frankly speaking, XL had time and time again asked the universe to give him one last sign that his life mattered in some capacity. But if he couldn’t see the value in his own life, who else could?
XL scrambles off from HC’s lap, allowing himself to speak with the deep-seated spite that has grown in his heart like an untamable weed.
“THERE’S NO NEED TO GET SO WORKED UP OVER MY HEALTH!! I’LL BE GONE SOON ANYWAY! THE DOCTOR GAVE ME THREE MORE MONTHS,” XL screams, having to catch his breath after exerting so much power into his voice. “So there. You have my answer. I’m not lying this time. Just one a couple more months and then- then you won’t have to deal with my shit anymore, okay?”
HC can’t move. He can’t speak either. The shock taking over his system renders his mind and body completely useless. He can only stare blankly at XL whose tears now cascade down his cheeks.
No, this cannot be happening-
XL’s whimpers pull HC out of his head. The human hugs his own frail body, shivering from a coldness that does not exist in the room.
How did HC let it get so bad?
“I’m sick, San Lang. Very, very sick. Not just physically,” XL whispers defeatedly, letting out a small hiccup.
HC doesn’t hesitate to surge forward to throw his arms around XL, hugging him once more. It’s a habit now—to hold XL whenever he could. Now, HC wonders how many more times he would get this chance before it was inevitably the last.
“Xie Lian…”
“I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I-I just can’t eat. Sometimes from stress, other times I completely forget. And I want to rest, but I end up laying in bed awake for hours a-and my mind just won’t let me sleep-”
For the first time in over a decade, there is someone else to hear XL’s agonized wails.
“Please believe me, San Lang. Please."

I’m genuinely confused by your take. I looked and couldnt find if you feel this is a direct response to a previous post you made? But Ive been seeing various people talk shit about plastic surgery lately, so I’m going to assume that they werent actually trying to target you with this post.
But there is as big of a plastic surgery industry making people look whiter as there is to make people look blacker. It absolutely goes both ways.
Which is fucked up as hell. Its really terrible that women are pressured to hate their bodies, especially racialized characteristics. And its horrible that certain features are exoticized and sexualized and become seen as desirable through that process.
But I genuinely dont see how anyone can disagree with the points these fine people made. And that people have the right to control their own bodies, period. These points, that insurance blocks medically necessary surgery, that trans care is often conflated with "cosmetic", and that bodily autonomy is paramount, stand on their own.
I dont think anyone is saying plastic surgery is a universal good. But people have the right to change their bodies. Nobody should feel like they HAVE to! But we let people punch holes and inject dye into their skin in the pursuit of aesthetic results. Modifying our bodies has always been a means of self-expression in every single culture in the world. As a trans masc, I know that the rituals women feel pressured to undertake in the name of being seen as even just presentable can be horribly oppressive. But I also know that these same rituals can be vehicles of self-liberation as self-expression is one of our basic human needs. It is very much a part of the female condition to have incredibly difficult and complex relationships to hair, clothes, and makeup. Simultaneously unable to fully reject or fully embrace. It's deeply human.
Maybe I’m just an ignorant white person, but I think that we can absolutely hate the racialized nature of plastic surgery without demonizing the practice as a whole. I also think we should hesitate before we imply that certain traits belong to certain races. I know it would be aggnonizing if a trait that I was told to change for decades was suddenly being sold at top dollar. But I am quite nervous about the idea that its wrong for white women to get bigger butts or boobs because its a "black thing." Would that mean its fine for a small black woman to do it but not a small white woman? Is it okay for a big boobed white woman to get a reduction for her back and general comfort, but a black woman doing so is somehow betraying her race and not loving herself enough?
Obviously there are extremes and there are edge cases. Its easy to look at something like double eyelid surgery or skin bleaching and see how fucked up and racist this industry is.
But we also know that it is true that there is a huge push right now to make trans medical care literally illegal. Trans people are currently being detransitioned because laws were changed. That is hugely relevant and cannot be ignored. That is not something that was happening even a year ago. So yeah, I do think its an incredibly valid concern that we need to be on the side of informed consent and bodily autonomy when it comes to procedures that many would deem to be "elective." While we as a global society should all work to reduce racism in ourselves and our communities, that should not mean reducing our ability to self-express.
We all know that those with power will continue to have access to any and all proceedures that they want. And creating more and more hoops and restrictions and barriers, however well-meaning, will always serve to impeed the marginalized more than the privileged. Just like outlawing abortion makes it inaccessible to the poor but the rich can still access it. Just like rules against censorship are passed under the guise of stopping hate but instead are used to prevent marginalized people from organizing for political and societal change while leaving hate unaffected. Just like how in Florida, SB 254 is written as if its going to stop child predators, but we all know it will not stop a single pedophile, it is designed to stop both trans kids and trans parents from accessing trans care.
Outlawing medical procedures does not make them stop, it simply pushes them to sketchier and sketchier ways of happening.
Anyway. I genuinely would like to learn about your perspective. How do you think that we can have mature conversations about racism in plastic and cosmetic surgery in a way that will not be used to limit genuine medical care? Have I misunderstood your point in any ways? How can I, as a white person, continue to have this conversation in a way that won't hurt women of color? I hope I havent mistepped and I honestly hope to discuss how things can be improved for everyone. I hope our conversation can remain nuanced. Thank you for sharing. ☮️💗☯️

Okay. So it wouldn’t do that much to Danny. Now… I’m the Mutant Town AU, how well would this Anti-Ecto medicine and routine work? (I can see Valerie post-Technus suit wanting to get on it and then feeling really out of it once she does)
oooooooh that's a good question, I really hadn't thought ahead about this decontamination treatment when I first mentioned it but I'm enjoying expanding on the concept! I've also decided that it's a slow acting oral treatment, either a tablet or a liquid, it can probably be injected as well as an emergency measure but that makes it more potent and prone to negative side effects
I feel like it wouldn't kill any regular humans no matter how contaminated they are because they are still human, but it would probably have a lot more side effects with people who are more heavily contaminated as it would start destroying human cells to get to the contaminated ones
I also feel like it wouldn't be a perfect cure-all, the Fentons have been using this stuff on themselves after lab accidents for years, but even they still have a level of ecto-contamination that it just can't shake off, like maybe they can take the active ectoplasm out of their systems but it can't unmutate the affected cells, so that mutation will just build and build over time
eg; Maddie and Jack are invulnerable to a lot of physical damage, which is the first level of mutation in every case, tougher, stronger, better immune system, just about everyone in Amity Park has a similar level of contamination, those things don't go away once they're decontaminated, the treatment just prevents further mutation, it's a treatment not a cure
it won't do a whole lot if you can't take the source of the contamination away, and Amity Park itself is the source, meaning that any kids given the treatment will probably have the ectoplasm in their system neutralised for a few days, but it'll just come right back before too long
but if we're talking about kids with powers, and not just physical mutations, then that would probably be different, using powers takes energy, that energy comes from the ectoplasm, neutralise the ectoplasm and there's no energy to fuel the powers
if you treated a superpowered kid, and then removed them from Amity Park, they wouldn't get their powers back, but as soon as they are returned to a contamination source, those powers will return, even if it's been years, the groundwork for the mutation is still in their body so it'll just pick up where it left off
Danny's source of contamination is his own body which is why the medication will never remove his powers for good without destroying his body
Valerie is more interesting, since her contamination source is the suit that is pretty much a part of her, my headcanon for that is that when Technus created the suit, he hadn't intended for Valerie's body to essentially absorb the tech and make it her own, cutting off his control over it
so her body is thrumming with ectoplasmic based tech, that is physically and psychically linked to her, if she wanted the decontamination treatment, she would have to completely disconnect from the suit and remove every particle of it (it's kinda like nano-tech I guess?)
which would be a very interesting character moment for Val, she can fight ghosts using their own power against them, but at the expense of becoming more like them, and if she was to remove all the ectoplasm in her system, she would have to reject the technology she relies on to fight them
she could conceivably remove the suit, get the treatment, leave Amity Park and remain totally human, if she removed the suit, got the treatment, but stayed in Amity Park, her body would probably develop a new mutation, or follow the example of the previous one and simply continue to absorb things
(there are a few ways to interpret this concept like whether or not she can absorb anything or just technology, does she deconstruct and reconstruct things, or do they just attach themselves to her? eg, can she absorb a table and then use the elements from that table to form armour? or would the table fuse itself to her skin so she could use it like a shield? or can she absorb things in their entirety and then have her body spit it back out in it's entirety? I think I like the dematerialising things and rematerialising them as armour and weaponry idea the most)
alternatively if she took the treatment while still connected to the suit, she would risk getting sick like Danny as the physical ectoplasmic particles of the suit she's absorbed are piggybacking the cells in her body, but unlike Danny, it would be possible to eventually break down and destroy the suit with a higher dosage and longer treatment, but it would cause a lot of collateral damage in the process, not killing her but making her really really sick, and possibly damaging her body permanently, it would be a pointless risk when she can simply remove the suit herself before getting the treatment
so yeah that would be a really interesting thing for Val to go through! especially if she asks the Fentons for the treatment without telling them about the suit or understanding how dangerous it will be for her, leading to Danny finally having to reveal that he knows who she is and that she has this suit and it's what's making her so sick
oddly enough, I also think this medication is more dangerous to halfas than it is to ghosts, it would destroy ectoplasmic matter at touch but it actually takes a little time for it to break it down, so it would be like throwing a mild form of acid on a ghost, it would only do some superficial damage, you'd have to dunk them in a vat of the stuff and leave them there for a while to destroy them completely, it would be more effective for torture than murder, ghosts also don't have a circulatory system like humans so injecting a ghost would only damage them at the injection site, meaning it wouldn't be any more effective than a shot from an ordinary ecto-gun, unless you managed to inject it right into the ghost's core, THAT would deadly, but also incredibly difficult as that's the most protected part of their body and contains the most dense, solid ectoplasm
