Received this Japanese postcard from a Postcrosser in Malaysia. It shows part of "Rites and Festivals at Mito Tōshōgū" scroll from The Tokugawa Museum.
Mito Tōshōgū is a memorial shrine that is still around today. Museum website says (via Google Translate): "The elaborately designed floats of each town, the splendid floats and stalls, etc. are depicted in detail along with the lively streets of Mito, giving a glimpse of the splendid festival procession."
I particularly enjoy Shinto symbols so was happy to spot the gate and the fox.

Stamp is from orchid series issued in 2017.

Oh while I'm on U.S. economics, I have another thing that bugs the hell out of me: the hiking of mortgage interest rates.
For those who don't know, mortgage interest rates dropped low during the pandemic. Which is not all sunshine since it resulted in many bidding wars and a ton of way-over-asking offers in competitive areas, but it put home-ownership way more within reach for a lot of people.
Then the fed started to pee their pants over inflation, and hiked their rates up, prompting mortgage companies to follow.
Here's a chart of mortgage interest rates over the last 4 years
Tumblr media
It hit a trough at 2.65% on average in early January 2021, and then you see it hiked itself way back up, now chilling at 6.27%
For context on how different these are: let's use an example of a $400,000 home - someone pays 20% down ($80,000) in cash, and finances the remaining 80% ($320,000).
Monthly payments at 2.65%:
Tumblr media
This results in paying back, in total, $464,040. You'll notice that's well over the initial $320,000, and that's because of the interest paid over those 30 years.
Now, monthly payments at 6.27%:
Tumblr media
This results in paying back, in total, $710,640. That's more than twice the initial loan of $320,000.
And, of course, it means the same exact property which could be paid for with a monthly budget of ~$1,300 in early 2021 now requires a monthly budget of ~$2,000 in 2023.
Also, those pandemic lows were an anomaly... Historically, mortgage interest rates were on average HIGHER than 6.27% - but also, historically, wages were much better relative to the prices of homes and people could afford the high interest rates (with the exception of the people who got screwed over in the 2008 housing market meltdown... There's a really good Cold Fusion video on that.)
And because these low interest rates were an anomaly, they may never come back...
So with mortgage interest rates going up, home-buying becomes harder. When home-buying becomes harder, rents increase (because renters have no alternative).
So who DOESN'T get affected?
ENTITIES THAT CAN PAY IN ALL CASH.
They need no mortgage. They pay the sticker price on-spot with no interest applying to them. And I say ENTITIES because, sure, some people can buy their home in all-cash. But a huge number of the entities that can buy in all cash are BIG investment companies--the Blackrocks and the Mega-landlords who scoop up properties to sit on, rent out, and turn for a profit later like it's a piece of stock, and not a habitable property...
Anyway I don't have a conclusion for this. Fix wages, or bring interest rates back down, or kill Blackrock. Preferably all 3.

Incoming Machine!
"Add 1 monster that mentions 'Max Metalmorph' or 1 'Metalmorph' Trap from your Deck or GY to your hand. If you control a 'Metalmorph' Trap: You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change it to face-up Attack Position. You can only use this effect of 'Incoming Machine!' once per turn."

auugh the thing about not having an income is things that would be relatively easy for someone with an income to save for or just pay in monthly installments is just, completely unattainable.

I think red wouldn't be a picky eater at all. In fact he's the kind of person who will eat anything you give them. As an adult at least. While living alone on a mountain you don't have That much variation or ability to have particularly fancy meals. So he got used to eating whatever he could. He'd have things he likes more, but will eat most things without complaint.
I hc green as having arfid so he is the opposite. The autism arfid combo has him eating a very restricted diet which doesn't help the fact that he often gets too focused on his work and forgets to take breaks to eat n stuff. He doesn't realize how hungry he is until the end of the day.
When he lived alone and was under a lot of stress+The Guilt he was extra averse to trying new things. When you are fighting mental demons you do not want the additional stress of eating something outside of your safe foods and potentially ruining your appetite for the next however long.
After he and red live together, it's a lot easier to try new things. Since red isn't particularly strict/picky with his diet, if green tries something and ends up hating it he feels less bad about wasting food because his beloved wife red will eat it for him. He can also try new things by stealing a bite or two of something red is eating without the pressure of having to finish a whole plate of it.
Red doesn't mind. They are very supportive of each other. He also just likes anything green does ever so sharing and trying new foods with him is just another fun activity.
It is also cute to imagine despite red eating most things and it seeming like hes ambivalent about it all, green still notices which things red enjoys even if it's barely noticable to anyone else. He will buy snacks and stuff that red likes to give him next time he sees them. Id say red would buy green things he likes too but red is jobless in all my posts.
