A bigot demanded I tell him what's so good about Agatha All Along without mentioning representation and diversity so... Here we go...

1. It has an intriguing plot with a morally grey protagonist who may or may not be on a subtle redemption arc. I'm a sucker for a good redemption story.

2. It features very talented actors including the Tony award winning Broadway icon, Patti LuPone as one of the leads.

3. It features fairly accurate and respectful depictions of many Occult beliefs.

4. "Teen" is a very likable sidekick character and serves as a good moral compass for many of the other characters.

5. It has good music and a catchy recurring song from the composers of Avenue Q and Frozen, including a cover by the main cast in the style of Glam Rock.

6. It's better than WandaVision.

7. It's entertaining.

8. It's one of the only MCU depictions of supernatural magick while allowing it to actually be magick instead of pseudo-science and while also acknowledging an afterlife instead of pandering to the Chinese censors to get a Chinese theatrical release. The Chinese market doesn't allow for "Western depictions of the afterlife." (This includes ghosts. It's why the Disney Haunted Mansion in Hong Kong Disney isn't haunted but instead has enchanted furniture).

9. This was the first time we had ghosts in a Marvel property. Same reason as number 8.

10. It's refreshingly different from other other Marvel releases that have been following and obvious and tired formula for some time now.

11. Kathryn Hahn is a good actress.

12. It has a great, Gothic / spooky ambiance while also being fun. 13. It's the side of Marvel I get starved for because Marvel is too cowardly to have things like this outside of the Halloween season.

14. It has "Found Family" which is one of my favorite TV and movie tropes.

15. It's not all boring action sequences or sex scenes like most TV today. And yes, I find those things boring.

16. I had once said I wanted to see a TV show based on the concept of "Gothic Golden Girls" with witch Golden Girls and this is close enough. 17. I think Agatha, as a character, is well-written.

18. With other shows like Wednesday this has helped restore Goth Culture to the mainstream, enough so that there's a Goth clothing section on Target's website now (and has been for a full year). So I'm loving the influence on Pop culture.

19. This may open the door for more supernatural content from Marvel, I just hope they start allowing it outside of the Halloween season.

20. I'm not really enjoying many other new scripted TV shows right now. Both The Sandman and Wednesday are currently between seasons.

On Wednesday, Walt Disney Co.'s chief executive, Bob Chapek, unveiled the company's first brand-new cruise ship in ten years, the fruit of the initiative he championed before the board of directors of the business.

In spite of recent incidents that raised concerns about his tenure, Chapek was able to get a three-year contract extension on Tuesday with the introduction of the 4,000-passenger Disney Wish. Chapek took over as Disney's CEO in February 2020.

At a christening ceremony that featured pyrotechnics and appearances by Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Ant-Man, Chewbacca, and other characters from Disney's extensive library, Chapek informed guests that it took more than six years to get the 144,000-ton Wish to the market.

On the ship, "we combine these amazing characters and stories with incredible technology to create brand new experiences," Chapek said.

The vast theme parks, experiences, and products division of Disney, which has recovered from pandemic closures, includes the cruise industry. In the first half of fiscal 2022, operating income increased to $4.2 billion, turning around a loss of $535 million from the prior year.

Disney does not reveal the percentage of earnings that come from cruises, but according to Chapek in November, given the premium price that Disney charges, the industry has achieved "a double-digit return on investment."

According to Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks division, The Wish, the fifth ship in the company's fleet, "kicks off the largest growth in Disney Cruise Line history." By 2025, two more ships will be delivered.

The industry is attempting to win back clients following a 15-month hiatus caused by the COVID-19 outbreak as the new ship sets sail.

According to the Cruise Lines International Association, the number of passengers may not reach levels seen in 2019—29.7 million people boarded ships globally—until the end of 2023.

Even passengers who have received vaccinations are still at risk of contracting COVID-19, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which notes that the illness "spreads easily between persons in close quarters on board ships."

D'Amaro predicted that Disney's cruise line would resume operating at full capacity, citing consistent increases in bookings.

"When all is said and done, we'll have seven of them, and all seven of them will be filled out," he said in an interview. "I have 100% confidence in that."

The ship also "complements everything that we do," D'Amaro added. "For example, people that will come to get aboard this ship ... they're spending three days at Walt Disney World."

AquaMouse, which the business bills as its first attraction at sea, will be used to try to lure tourists to the Disney Wish. The animated short films featuring Mickey and other characters are incorporated into the theme park-like attraction as passengers float through 760 feet (230 metres) of winding tubes hung above the upper decks.

Families can immerse themselves in the worlds of Marvel's Avengers and Disney's "Frozen" through dining experiences. For adults, Disney designed a hyperspace lounge with a Star Wars décor that resembles the star cruisers from "Solo: A Star Wars Story."

Additionally, the ship offers an immersive interactive experience that fuses the real and virtual worlds. A Disney Cruise Line app transforms a user's phone into a digital "spyglass" for seeing the night sky and exploring adventures with constellations that resemble Disney and Pixar characters.

The interactive game is a step in the direction of Chapek's objective of becoming visible in the metaverse. In order to keep consumers interested in Disney characters and tales between the release of new films and park visits, the CEO has pushed for virtual experiences.

On July 14, the Disney Wish will depart Florida's Port Canaveral for its inaugural trip.

After the business opposed legislation to restrict LGBTQ discussion in schools, Disney has become mired in controversy in the state. The removal of the corporation's self-governing status for Walt Disney World in Orlando was triggered by this; nevertheless, the act has not yet taken effect.

Disney employees had encouraged the corporation to speak out against the legislation that was branded as the "Don't Say Gay" bill by opponents of the LGBTQ community.

Jens had made it back into his room just on time after having picked up Lotte from school. Lucas already sat at his opened laptop on the desk, ready to hear whatever it is Senne so desperately wanted to tell them. The mysterious text he had sent earlier today didn’t really hinted at anything. Jens wasn’t even sure if it was positive or negative news. He could just hope for something good. More bad things in his life were the last thing he needed.

The chat was already busy, only Jana and Luca, obviously, missing.

���Bon soir.“ Jens greeted everyone, while stepping into frame behind Lucas, sitting down on the corner of his bed. He recieved warm welcomes from everyone in return, his boyfriend included, who turned his head around to blow him a little kiss. Jens winking back at him, before shifting his attention back towards the screen.

„So we are waiting on the girls, I guess?“

„Yup.“ Yasmina replied, looking very busy reading a book, as she sat in a very comfortable looking arm chair, sipping on some tea and not paying that much attention to the chat.

„Hola, my beautiful european friends. We had five positive corona cases in our class today, so everyone got send back home to get tested. And now I don’t have to use my shitty phone and instead can marvel at your pretty faces on my pc. Wohoo!“ This girl was something else. Jens thought, smirking at the newest addition to their little meeting. Jana, despite everything she had just told them, smiled into her camera, sipping on some to-go coffee cup, while combing through her hair with a brush, she had pulled from somewhere. This was exactly why Jens had fallen in love with her in the first place. Before the jealousy and his lies.

Apparently, Jana wasn’t done yet.

„So emergency, huh? Who is pregnant?“ Her eyes darting over her screen. „Zoë?“ A bit further to the left. „Or no, not Amber again.“

„Again??“

Aaron was white as a ghost, his soul had left his body. Jens definitely could understand the reaction right now. Apparently the topic of pregnancy had been an issue before, and Jens wasn’t really sure if he wanted to know exactly why.

„I’m not prgenant and never was. Also this was before you.“ Amber replied sitting next to Aaron and pecking a kiss on his cheek. It definitely helped the poor boy to find back to himself, visibly relieved. Yet surprisingly Senne seemed to have frozen in his place. The older boy must have made some sort of connection that wasn’t comprehensible, at least not to Jens. Senne caught himself though rather quick.

„No one is pregnant.“ Zoë said towards the camera, so that everyone could be assured of it, while Jana simply shrugged, rather unaffected.

Lucas turned around, very much puzzled as well, but all Jens could do for the poor boy was to tell him he should ask the girls instead. He wasn’t any wiser himself. Fortunately Luca was joining them not much later, ending the whole conversation. Thank god!

„I was afraid you’d start without me.“ She declared first thing, looking not like she had hurried at all to be with them at six. Not that anyone was really late. Still, the word emergency meeting did made it feel like it was something important. Something they should be on time for.

„Good, so I’ll make it quick and get to the point.“ Senne took over the lead, sitting between Zoë and Milan, who both obviously knew what was up, grinning suspiciously. „And no worries, it is not something bad. It is also no baby. I should have worded it differently in chat, but I need an answer from you guys til seven, so roughly in an hour. I kinda had to make sure you all show up. Especially because of my two usual suspects here always being late.“

„What’s that supposed to mean?“ Moyo said defensive, obviously having been on time today. Though that he felt the need to ask, was very telling. Mainly Moyo admitted himself that he was one of the two implied, Luca clearly being the second person.

Senne went on without acknowledging the boy, as everyone listened intently in anticipation.

„Jana? You are here over the christmas holidays, right? Given your mom needs to be back for work?“

„Eh yes.“ Jana replied, suddenly looking much more interested in where this woud lead too.

„Perfect.“ Senne declared, clapping his hands. „Because my grandparents called me this morning, with an offer. You probably know that I don’t talk to my parents. But I do still with my grandparents, and usually they spent one or two month in winter in switzerland. Now they decided not to go this year, as they are part of the risk group. They asked instead me, if I wanted to go for a week or so over christmas.“

Jens was confused. Were they supposed to congratulate him on having a rich family? 

He was too quick in his judement though, when Senne hadnt finished his little speech yet and continued.

„The house has six rooms, four double rooms and two rooms fitting three people each. Which means all of us could spend the christmas holidays in the swiss alps in an alipne cottage. Guys, I mean, come on!“

Chaos was immediately ensuing over chat, everybody basically talking at the same time. Everyone excited, everyone asking a million questions. Jens included, who for a moment forgot that he had more important responsibilities at home to take care of foremost. He remembered quick enough to shut up and swallow down his growing dissapointment.

„Hey!“ Milan yelled, shutting everyone else up too, making them stare at their screens again.

„There you go.“ The eldest amoung them said smirking towards Senne next to him, giving back the spotlight.

„So I know, that you all have to ask your parents first. And that you have to see if you can make time for it. We also don’t know what the regulations are gonna be in a month. I know. I know. I just need to let my grandparents know if we are interested, everything else we can plan over the next couple of weeks. Otherwise they’ll ask family friends. Somebody has to go to check on the cabin anyway. What do you all say?“

Jens didn’t even had to do anything, as the main response was an affirmative yes.

Lucas looked back at him, trying for a smile, while extanding his hand for Jens to take. He didn’t really care if someone had the chat on a big enough screen to actually see them holding hands.

Jens was sad. He wanted to go as well. Fuck.

Couldn’t be helped though, thus he collected himself and smiled back at Lucas first before he watched his friends overwhelm poor Senne with every question possible. From when, to how they would get there. If he had pictures he may be able to show them. The important stuff.

That was basically the whole of the meeting that was left til they all bid goodbye at seven for Senne to call his grandparents. Which was fitting well, as Jens had to prepare dinner anyway.

The Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its upcoming slate following the recent acquisition of the Fox film studios, including changes to previously dated films and a number of major additions.

After kicking off with the record-setting success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, The Walt Disney Studios’ 2019 summer slate includes Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21, Fox’s Stuber on July 12, and Disney’s The Lion King on July 19. Fox 2000’s The Art of Racing in the Rain moves up to Aug. 9, and Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not will release on Aug. 23, while three films move to later dates: Ad Astra(9/20/19), The New Mutants (4/3/20), and Artemis Fowl (5/29/20).

The Studios’ 2019 slate rounds out with Fox’s The Woman in the Window on Oct. 4 and Ford V. Ferrari on Nov. 15, Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on Oct. 18 and Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Dec. 20, and Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise, moving from September to Christmas. Among early 2020 titles are Fox’s Underwater on Jan. 10, a new Kingsman movie on Feb. 14, and Call of the Wild on Feb. 21, followed by Pixar’s Onward on March 6 and Disney’s Mulan on March 27.

The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Glancing down at your phone for the fifth time in two minutes, you had felt it buzz this time. The picture that came up, a text from your best friend, showed a picture of you photoshopped surrounded by cats. You rolled your eyes hard and turned off the phone, shoving it back in your pocket.

It had been a week since you broke up with your most recent boyfriend, another dude who just reinforced that the world was made up of assholes. This one had been good. He’d been sweet. But you were a bit prickly, some sarcasm and cynicism in there, but he’d been accepting. Six months later you found out not so much. During an argument he’d admitted how depressing you were, how truly a downer you were. It had hurt and stung. And when someone suggested going back online for dating? Well. Online dating was a cesspool of ‘show me ur tits’ and ‘fuck you anyway’ when you didn’t answer. It felt useless.

And you weren’t exactly dressed to impress today, wearing your old Captain America t-shirt with a couple rips and some paint stains. He’d always been a favorite but this was your comfort shirt, whether it looked that way or not. And hell, you needed comfort.

The joke of course, the one your friend had texted you, was that you were destined to be the crazy cat lady. And wasn’t it perfect that you were in line for ice cream at Bedford Farms, one of the more famous ice cream shops in the greater Boston area. It was mostly dead, Wednesday at 2pm not really a time of day most kids or adults flooded the shop in Concord. But you’d wanted comfort food and had insisted on only the best.

Standing at the counter, ignoring your phone now, you smiled at the teen likely working some money to save for college, “Small Mississippi Mud please, and a pint of it to go as well,” you lifted the stay-cold bag onto the counter, watching as the woman went to work. You’d noticed a man standing behind you but hadn’t thought much of it. Probably another one of the many either out of your league or taken. His head was low with sunglasses on, and he’d looked weirdly familiar.

Whatever.

You ignored the judgey kind of looks as they scooped the ice cream, hearing the man behind you, “Rough day?”

You rolled your eyes, of course he’d ask. You half-turned your head at the again weirdly familiar voice, “Aren’t they all?”

Ah, there was that dark humor, the one the man had left you because of. Sighing at yourself you frowned internally and took the ice cream as it was overloaded, as always, the delicious benefit of Bedford Farms. Turning, you hadn’t realized the man was trying to pass you on your left and you had turned sharply, bumping into the white t-shirt and creating a full-on spill with your cup.

“Jesus christ mother fucker!” You yelled, cursing as the ice cream hit the floor, watching as the man scrambled for napkins. But he didn’t seem mad.

No, this man was weirdly apologetic, “Oh, god, I’m so sorry! That’s on me!” He wiped at your shirt, handing you the napkins as the woman behind the counter appeared to grin, handing water as well, “Let me get that, please, I’m sorry. Least it’s on an old shirt?”

“It’s my favorite!” You snapped, not realizing your tone, though pausing to see he’d spilled the chocolate on his white shirt as well, “Fuck, I’m so sorry, you got it on your white shirt… it’s just, this is my favorite shirt. Not your fault, I’m sorry, too,” you looked at him, probably for the first time, before realizing you had crashed straight into Chris Evans.

It was like a lightbulb. And not a total shocker, either. It shouldn’t have been. He lived in the area and this was a popular spot. The girls behind the counter had seen him before and gotten over their ooing and awwing. Now you were frozen as he smiled, “Favorite shirt? Yeah, Cap’s my favorite too.” He had pushed up his sunglasses by now and was smiling, a soft smile that made you melt more than the ice cream on the floor.

Now you were flustered as fuck, “Oh, oh my god, of course I’d spill ice cream on Chris Evans,” you winced, tossing out the napkins as the last was cleaned up.

He grinned, nodding his head, “Could be worse. Could have been RDJ. He’s a stickler about his clothes,” he winked playfully, “Now let me be a gentleman and buy you a new ice cream. Can’t have you leaving without it. Wouldn’t be very superhero-ish of me not to. Especially not even knowing your name.” His smile froze you, and you nodded, watching in a weird stupor as Chris Evans bought you a new ice cream, this time in a waffle cone.

He bought his own, White River Junction, and insisted you sit with him, “Yours won’t melt. C’mon, you look like you need someone to sit with. No offense, but a response of saying all your days are rough deserves an ear.”

The man was a real-life superhero, you thought to yourself as you got seated at a table near the back, closer to where the train tracks were. You’d already begun to dig into the ice cream when he came over, speaking through a stuffed mouth, “I’m Y/N. And thanks for the ice cream. And the company. You didn’t have to do that,” you were somewhat muffled.

I wonder if she knows how cute she is, Chris thought to himself as he smiled, taking a bite of his own favorite flavor and savoring the little indulgence he was allowed through all his training, “But I wanted to. Plus now your favorite Captain America shirt can have a Captain America story to go with it,” he laughed a little.

You couldn’t help but smile, one of the first real smiles you’d had and felt in some time. This sweet man was sitting with you eating ice cream like it was the most casual thing in the world, “Well, I doubt most people would believe I actually bumped into Chris Evans to have ice cream,” you smirked.

Without hesitation he reached into his pocket and withdrew his phone, making a motion for you to lean across the table, “I’d tell you to make a cute face, but I have a feeling they’re all cute,” he smirked.

You laughed nervously, leaning in with a spoon and holding it up with a smile as he used his spare hand to playfully dig into your ice cream, taking a shot. When he was done, he actually did take a bite, grinning, “Peanut butter is my favorite. And now they’ll believe you.” Eating the spoonful, you followed his lead and took a bite of his, feeling weirdly natural about doing this was someone so… astounding as Chris Evans.

When he turned back, smirking as you went back to your food he nodded, “You follow me on Instagram?”

You shrugged, pausing the eating of your ice cream, “I’m not huge on social media. I see some of my favorite folks from time to time, you included,” you blushed, “but it’s hard to keep up. Didn’t even know you were in the area,” you shrugged, taking another bite.

He laughed, “Well, you may want to check my Instagram. Feel free to tag yourself. Clearly I don’t know yours,” he grinned.

Taking out your phone (and quickly closing the crazy cat lady image) you brought up the social media app, one of many, and found his. It was a cute shot, to be sure, with a caption, “Saving the day with ice cream and a ‘sweet’ Bostonian! Can’t ever miss Bedford Farms on a trip home!”  The caption made you smile, though the fact that he hadn’t called you a ‘fan’ made you smile harder. He was being coy, you knew that, and so you liked it and tagged yourself, commenting, ”Least I don’t stain my white shirts. Just my Cap ones.” You realized he still had the chocolate on his shirt, something he’d likely given up on. Besides, the man could afford a new shirt.

He chuckled, clearly reading your comment, shaking his head, “Well, now your friends will believe you sat and had ice cream with Captain America. Happy?”

God, you have no fucking idea you’d thought to yourself as he smiled, that brown stain on his shirt making you feel a little bad, but not even noticing the giggling girls behind the counter that had never seen Chris like this in his minor indulgences into the ice cream. Normally he was in and out, but you never knew. No, this man, this sweet, kind man, had pulled you from another one of your funks just by being himself.

“Yeah, more than before. Thinking I may not need the ice cream in my bag,” you said, almost flirtatiously, finishing off the one you had eaten.

Were you not so absorbed in the moment you would have realized you’d made Chris blush. He had blushed at the idea that he had made your day better so much so that you didn’t even need to mope and watch Avengers for the fifteenth time. Your own favorite hero, the man who acted in movies you’d loved beyond just Marvel ones, the man who had seemed so kind and genuine, had made your entire day. And just by sitting with you eating ice cream.

But he had places to go, right? They always did. These famous types didn’t have time for you and your miserable life becoming the crazy cat lady. Even if he had just made your day in ways you couldn’t really describe. Chris had stepped in and swept you off your feet, just briefly.

Collecting your things, you smiled, “Thanks so much for this, Chris. It really meant a lot to me. I know you’ve probably got a lot going on.” You stood, slinging your bag over your shoulder and carrying the ice bag that was keeping your delicious treat cold until you could get home, which wasn’t too far.

He looked nervous, quickly getting up as well, “Hey uh, listen. I’m in town for a while, nice break and all that, and if you’re OK with it, I’d really like to take you out, maybe for dinner? Get to know the real Y/N and not just the one having a bad day in an ice cream shop,” he smiled warmly.

It was disarming, hearing him ask, and for a moment you were stuttering, trying to think of what to say and how to respond, GIVE HIM YOUR DAMN NUMBER, Y/N!  your inner voice cried hysterically, stomping as you managed to put on a small smile, “Dinner would be nice. I’ve got the day off, so whenever works. I should give you my number,” you reached out for his phone.

Surprisingly, Chris was just as flustered, stumbling as he withdrew his phone and unlocked it, opening it to the phonebook section and adding your name, taking a ridiculous quick selfie as you saved it and handed it back, “It’s under Y/F/N in there, so just text me when you’re ready and I can give you my address. Just change your shirt before then,” you smiled and winked, shocked at your sudden bravery.

Turning, you moved out the door to your car, leaving a lovestruck Chris Evans behind to absorb what had happened. A true Boston girl had just caught him by surprise and she was the cutest, most gorgeous thing around without even knowing it. How could you? If you could have heard the overwhelming voice in Chris’ head, you might have been shocked.

As it was, you were getting yourself together to head home, suddenly more aware than ever of the texts coming in on your phone and hoping that Chris wouldn’t be far behind.

Guess the ice cream wouldn’t be necessary at all. Now to be ready for Chris.

Chapter One: To Love a Hero

A/N: So...while creating the cover for this short fanfiction, I accidentally made a cover that would be perfect for a gladiator!Thor series, so that’s probably going to be happening somewhere down the line. Fair warning. This one is set in the Marvel universe and will be using it’s timeline. I’m really excited because I love this man, and he deserves the love because I don’t think he gets enough. This first part is just the beginning, so bear with me, the romance and sex will come shortly. I will also probably be updating this on a weekly basis (trying to be realistic) though I will aim for it to be updated more often. However, this is a short fanfiction, and I planned only five chapters, each being 2000+ words. I hope you guys enjoy.

The first time you met Thor was during the Battle of New York City.

You were in your last year of college, working towards graduating with a Bachelors in Science of Nursing and a minor in mythology. Now, one would wonder how the two fit together, and the truth of the matter was they did not. You enjoyed being a nurse, caring for people and learning about the human body, but mythology, particularly Norse mythology, had intrigued you since you were a young girl. Stories of King Odin’s conquests, his children, and the people of Asgard were things you treasured, and each time you re-read one of the ancient tales, you discovered something new.

Minoring in mythology also gave you the chance to meet many different people, as many different majors decided to take classes in the field. You had made a few good friends in these classes, and it just so happened that one of them had an apartment in the city. Classes were winding down, and the lot of you only had a few finals, none really worth worrying too much over, so you all decided to stay in the city for a long weekend.

The apartment was gorgeous, a penthouse suite, which your friend whose family owned the place, had failed to mention. Needless to say, you spent most of your time while in the place trying to keep it clean.

You were one of the first to arrive, your last class being Wednesday, May 2nd, so you headed into the city after it, car already packed. You settled in, bought some groceries from a local farmer’s market, and made yourself some dinner. Heather and Jamie, who came earlier in the day, left a note for you on the counter, letting you know that the small room in the back was yours for the weekend and that they were going to be out for the evening.

Knowing Heather, she wouldn’t be back the next day. Her boyfriend lived in the city, so she would probably spend most of her time with him.

Honestly, you and Heather weren’t really close, so you didn’t really mind her absence. Jamie was the one who offered to share her family’s place with you, and she was much less moody. She was your closest friend in the group; she was a very go-with-the-flow kind of gal, and you loved her to pieces for it.

Thursday brought one of your other mythology friends, Anna. She was similar to Jamie in a lot of ways, so the three of you had a lot of fun staying in and watching a few movies.

Friday started normally; well, as normal as a day could be for a college girl staying in a New York City penthouse. You went out after sleeping in to get some more groceries from that farmer’s market, and you also did some window shopping. You had asked if Jamie and Anna wanted to join you, but Jamie liked to sleep in well passed twelve while Anna wanted to use the time to study a bit for her upcoming exams.

So, you were wandering down the street by yourself, making your way towards the farmer’s market, your hands on the faux leather strap of your satchel, when the skies opened up.

You paused, eyes fixed on the spectacle above you. A high-pitched cry came from the hole above Stark’s tower, and you watched with bated breath as figures entered New York City from the sky. Around you, people who had also frozen in the middle of their day-to-day lives, began to run, some screaming as they did. Others asked questions, wondering what was going on.

“It’s the end of the world!” Someone exclaimed, making many others scatter.

You? For some reason, you could not will yourself to move. Your mind was racing, trying to figure out if this was real or some weird dream you were experiencing a little too thoroughly.

“Look! It’s Iron Man!”

You turned your head, seeing that it was indeed him, flying around up there and blasting whatever those creatures were out of the air. But some still got through, despite his best efforts, and blue blasts hit the streets, turning over cars, causing explosions and fires.

And they were close. Too close.

You forced yourself from your spot, taking off with many others to avoid the destruction. You took cover under a table at a nearby café, and others had the same idea, including a couple of waiters and hungry patrons. Cabs stopped nearby, their occupants joining you or fleeing into the alleyways between buildings.

One particular blast had you gasping for air, dust and rubble flying around you. You coughed, quickly moving to cover your mouth with your forearm.

An agonized scream from the table next to you had you opening your eyes, trying to makeout the figure. The man was on his back, holding his leg to his chest, blood oozing out between his fingers.

Without much thought about it, you crawled over to him, grateful that you had worn jeans despite the warmth of the day, and put a hand on a shoulder. “What happened?”

“Glass...from a cab window,” he hissed between clenched teeth. He grunted, shifting his leg a bit for you to look at it better.

You lifted his hands from the appendage, studying the wound as it came into view. Luckily, it was a rather large piece of glass that was lodged, making it easier for you to pull it out carefully rather than go looking for a knife to help you cut it out. Tears streamed down his dirt-stained face as you quickly pulled the jagged piece from his skin and put it off to the side. You then took out the travel-sized alcohol rub that you always carried in your purse. You put some on your hands, ignoring a loud crash that came from beside you. “This is going to sting...a lot,” you quickly explained before squirting some of the clear liquid on a tissue from your bag.

You blotted the wound, the man sucking in a breath as he squeezed his eyes tight. You handed him some more tissues, asking him to keep pressure on it. “You’re going to need stitches…”

He nodded, swallowing thickly, “Thanks…”

You gave him a small smile, then turned at the sound of thunder, your eyes moving to the sky to see...a man?

He was lofty, with broad shoulders and thick arms, and his armor made him appear even more intimidating. A hammer was in his right hand, his large fingers wrapped around a string on its handle as he slowly descended. When his feet touched the ground, he caught the weapon, electric blue eyes finding yours. “Are you alright?”

His deep voice took you by surprise for some reason. Of course, you expected him to have a baritone, considering his formidable appearance, but not quite this...smooth?

“Who are you?” you found yourself asking instead of answering. You stood slowly, dusting yourself off.

“I am Thor, Son of Odin.” His lips curved into a proud smirk as he said this, while you were still trying to process who he claimed to be.

Thor? As in, the god of thunder? You have read many of his stories, known of his stubbornness and prowess. But this man could not be him, could he?

Well, he did look like he just stepped out of a viking movie, with the plates of metal that covered his muscular form and his long, golden locks. Your stare moved to the hammer in his hand. It did appear as Mjolnir did in many drawings you had studied of the legendary weapon.

“And who are you?” he asked, stepping towards you.

“I’m Y/N,” you answered, blinking as he wrapped an arm about your waist. “Um...what are you doing?”

“I saw you give aid to that man. I could use your skill with others,” was the explanation you got before shooting up into the air.

A yelp escaped your lips as you frantically clawed at him, eventually managing to hold onto his neck, your face buried into his chest, which shook with a low chuckle. You glared up at him, but it did not clear the amused look from his face. “You are angry? I thought you would have been freaking out by now.”

He brought up an excellent point, but you just saw a bunch of weird, alien-looking things come from a large hole in the sky. Now a very attractive man, claiming to be a god, was flying with you in his arms? Things could be worse for you.

“Who said I’m not freaking out?” you asked, peering up at him and earning you another hearty laugh.

Moments later, the two of you were on the pavement again, and you realized just how you had taken having your feet planted firmly on the ground for granted.

This part of the city had seen a worse attack, and you saw a child and a woman, you assumed to be his mother, hiding behind a parked cab, with various superficial cuts on their faces, all bleeding a bit.

“I will go find more victims and bring them to you,” Thor stated, getting ready to take off again, but you stopped him.

“You shouldn’t bring them to me. A hospital would be better. I can only do so much with a purell bottle and a travel pack of tissues.”

Thor considered your words for a moment before nodding, “Alright. Then I shall bring you with me for emergency purposes.”

“As I said--”

“But what if you could lessen the damage?”

His question had you swallowing whatever words you were originally going to say because, frankly, he did have a point. It might be better for you to stabilize or at least make it easier for some of these people to travel to a hospital.

“Alright,” you nodded before turning to the mother and child.

After removing a few shards of glass and cleaning them up a bit, Thor took you to a few other places in the surrounding area. He also would leave you for a few moments, taking very serious cases to the nearby hospital, before zooming back to your side.

“It is over,” he remarked after one longer trip, his eyes on the now spotless, blue sky above Stark tower. He turned to you, taking your hand in his and leaning down to brush his soft lips against your knuckles. “Thank you, Y/N. Your help is greatly appreciated.”

You felt your cheeks warm at his heartfelt comments. “It was no trouble, but how about I take a look at your shoulder before you get going?”

His brows rose high on his forehead as he straightened. “How did you…?”

“You are favoring your left side.”

Thor smiled sheepishly. “You’re quite observant, a good trait for a healer, but I must go. I have to take my brother home to Asgard.”

“Brother?” As far as you knew, Thor had no blood brothers…

“Loki,” he replied, lifting his hammer. “He is the cause of this.”

The God of Mischief? Well, considering his history, you supposed the god would have some issues. Honestly, you had always felt bad for him, considering how Odin would treat him sometimes.

“Ok. At least have someone look at it,” you said, glancing at his shoulder.

His smile was pure sunlight. “I will.” His thumb caressed the back of your hand before he let go of it. “Thank you, again. I won’t forget how you have helped this day.” And those were his last words to you before he disappeared.

You fisted the hand he had held, trying to calm your fast-beating heart, before taking your phone from your satchel’s back pocket. After such a disaster, you had several calls to make, but everytime you mentioned Thor to the person on the other end, you were unable to fight the sudden curve to your lips.

It would take you years to realize that the feeling was the beginnings of love.

Day 2 - Sunday, October 17, 2021 - Day at Sea

It’s Double Palo Day!

I woke up just a few minutes before the 8am alarm. That was extra, long overdue sleep! Hallelujah! I usually sleep better on a cruise that just about anywhere else; I don’t know if it’s the motion of the ship, the Dramamine, or both!

We each took our time showering and getting ready for our 10:30am Palo Brunch. We don’t think we’d done Palo Brunch since perhaps our first cruise in 2006! Since we have extra days and it has new COVID modification, we thought it was a good time to give it another try.

As expected, everything is now ordered instead of having part of the meal be via mini-buffet self-serve options. Because we know what we like (or not) and have an idea of the order, we threw our waitress with indicating an out-of-order pace. We did begin with the offered bread service, an almond croissant for Kara and a Nutella muffin (below) for me. 

These might have been the best breads of my life. They tasted house made, straight from France (even though Palo is Italian-themed. Remember Remy, French-themed is right next door!)

Kara decided to try the seafood antipasto, but as expected didn’t like the tuna and overall doesn’t like mussels. While I began with the lasagna. 

And now comes the part where most people with scream, “Blasphomy!” I thought my frozen Stouffers from home tasted just as good, even knowing Palo makes all their pasta from scratch. (Sorry!)

Kara then got the Eggs Benedict and we both got the (giant) strawberry Mickey waffle (where I consumed 3 condiment cups of whipped cream). 

Shockingly, it was quite rubbery. Kara got a side of the plain risotto, which was nowhere near the life-changing saffron risotto they used to have at dinner. 

She also got a Raspberry tart, that as expected, she only took a couple of bites of.

Now hold onto your hats - I ordered no dessert, because I didn’t think I’d like any of the FIVE options. So our waitress just brought me 2 more of the Nutella muffins - & a Happy Birthday plate for Kara, since her birthday was the week prior.

As a benefit of being Platinum Castaway Club we can choose between complimentary Palo Brunch, pre fixe Dinner, or $45 credit toward a la carte Dinner. We went ahead and had the complimentary Brunch applied. In reviewing afterward, we would give Palo Brunch a solid B; I’d say B-. So many people absolutely rave over Palo Brunch and it’s usually a tough reservation to get. Perhaps others better appreciate the menu options and/or the all-you-can-each format, but from this experience… I just don’t get it. Different strokes for different folks!

Bellies definitely full, we headed back to our stateroom. Relenting (& knowing we have onboard credit), we ordered a case of water, I caught upon this blog, and Kara napped.

At 3:30pm we attended Marvel Superman Face Off. (This is dedicated to my Stranded Panda/MCU Podcast friends!) 

This multi-round trivia game is typically only offered on Marvel Day at Sea sailings (on Disney Magic, Jan.-Mar.) I didn’t have high expectations for my performance based on my MCU Podcast Wednesday Trivia nights - & knowing the Disney Cruise version includes not just the movies, but also the TV shows and comics. Yet it was still a surprise when we were out after the 2nd question!

As we sat down, I remarked to Kara I’d love to see Melissa Khalil run the board on this. There was a Training Round, Agents of Shield (not specific to the show) Round, and a Super Hero round. It worked to the point only 2 people were left for the final round, which was to watch a monitor and name as many characters in 35 seconds as possible. Holy Smokes! A man named Mitchell from FL Ripped It Up; he would give Melissa a tough battle. (I nearly went over to ask him if he’s a member of the Stranded Panda Army!) I can’t wait to see how this goes down in January during our Marvel Day at Sea cruise!

Too soon it was time to get ready for dinner - Palo Dinner. I knew booking 2 Palos in 1 day was a risk, but we would have a gap of at least 6 hrs. Yet, it wasn’t enough. Neither of us was hungry and my tummy wasn’t doing so well already! I took a few drugs and off we went. (FYI our Main Dining would have been in Animator’s Palate tonight. We specifically arranged to do Palo, as the Animator’s Palate menu isn’t to our liking.)

On the way we discussed how different going to Palo felt since the change in Platinum benefit. Over the years Palo went from $5 to $20-25 and then to about $45pp, which by then we were Platinum with the complimentary benefit. Now they changed it to being either a pre fixe menu or a la carte. We knew we would do the latter, as we have our favorite items. I estimated my meal would be $60-70 and Kara’s even more, plus adding on the tip. Yikes. Compared to an equivalent land version, this was likely still a good value. But compared to previously having it complimentary was a big jump. We feel good about next time using the $45pp Platinum credit, which makes it feel more in line with what we are accustomed to (even with the generous tip)!

Palo has a very different look and feel at night. It’s quieter, calmer, the pace is slower, and the interactions with the staff are more conversational. We had asked for a different server for this evening and were gifted with Borys from Ukraine. (Yes, he has a Y in his name, just like me!) We love hearing the staff member’s stories.

Borys is from a town where being a “seafarer” is common. He did 2 contracts (typically 2-6 months) each on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Since then, he’s been with Disney for 10 years. (This tells you a lot about the culture of different cruise lines….) He had been in a main dining room as Assistant Server for just 6 weeks before moving to Palo. This is virtually unheard of, as you must have very specific training and be among the best to earn a position in Palo! And he definitely ranked as the best with us!

We had the customary bread service and Kara got an appetizer of Caprese.

Then our pasta & entrees matched. The Pappardelle (my favorite dish across the fleet) was as dreamy as I remembered topped with a perfect de-shelled lobster tail. The portion even seemed larger than normal. At this point we were both full....

Alas, next were the Scallops over risotto. Borys described them as “marshmallows for adults”! They were also excellent, but we missed the saffron risotto, which is now paired with a different item.

For dessert Kara ordered 2 scoops of mixed berry gelato... 

...and I, of course, had the Chocolate Soufflé, which was just as perfect as it always is. 

At some point Kara also got coffee, which Borys described as:

Noting we hadn’t consumed any alcohol, Borys ended our meal with a shot of apple cider & grenadine. (I actually missed the customary limoncello.)

Afterward, Kara browsed the jewelry store in her quest for a piece commemorating her mom.

We were then seated socially distanced (every other row & 3 seats apart) in the theatre for the 8:45pm “Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular”. Before the show, the Executive Staff of the ship was introduced and the crew count of 1269 was noted. This had to be the very first (& probably last) time we will experience the guests being outnumbered by the crew!

So we have seen Aladdin on this ship previously, along with the now-retired Disneyland show, and the Broadway Tour in Chicago. Surprisingly, this was our least favorite. The Aladdin was a bit weak and the Genie was WAY too far over the top.

Side note: There was a Disney Cruise original, now retired, show of Hercules. The great part about that show was it purposefully infused current cultural references in a hilarious way that usually only the adults understood - like making light fun of current pop stars, etc. It seems they’ve tried to apply that in Aladdin; however, it just doesn’t feel right. The Genie was forcing it and the musical number with a bunch of masked Genies was just plain creepy.

Afterward it was quickly off to sleep as the original “Parent Trap” played on the TV.

Walt Disney Studios Announces Film Schedule

The Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its upcoming slate following the recent acquisition of the Fox film studios, including changes to previously dated films and a number of major additions.

After kicking off with the record-setting success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, The Walt Disney Studios’ 2019 summer slate includes Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21, Fox’s Stuber on July 12, and Disney’s The Lion King on July 19. Fox 2000’s The Art of Racing in the Rain moves up to Aug. 9, and Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not will release on Aug. 23, while three films move to later dates: Ad Astra (9/20/19), The New Mutants (4/3/20), and Artemis Fowl (5/29/20).

The Studios’ 2019 slate rounds out with Fox’s The Woman in the Window on Oct. 4 and Ford V. Ferrari on Nov. 15, Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on Oct. 18 and Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Dec. 20, and Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise, moving from September to Christmas. Among early 2020 titles are Fox’sUnderwater on Jan. 10, a new Kingsman movie on Feb. 14, and Call of the Wild on Feb. 21, followed by Pixar’s Onward on March 6 and Disney’s Mulan on March 27.

The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Four forthcoming Avatar films, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021. In the holiday corridor for 2020, Fox’s West Side Story adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg, will debut Dec. 18 in the pre-Christmas slot, with Disney’s Cruella opening Wednesday, Dec. 23, for the long holiday weekend.

‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ becomes Disney’s seventh billion-dollar film of 2019

Star Wars is lucky No. 7 for Disney.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” the ninth and final installment of the Skywalker saga, hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the Walt Disney Studio announced on Wednesday. The space adventure film became the seventh Disney movie that was released in 2019 to make more than $1 billion. The film surpassed the $1 billion mark on Tuesday, its 28th day of release.

“Rise of Skywalker” joins two Marvel films, “Captain Marvel” and the record-breaking “Avengers: Endgame,” the live action remakes of “Aladdin” and “The Lion King,” Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” and Disney Animation’s “Frozen 2” in the 2019 billion dollar club for Disney.

“Rise of Skywalker” opened to roughly $177 million domestically in North America on December 20. That was the third highest-grossing opening of 2019, but it was considerably less than the previous two installments in the saga, 2015’s “The Force Awakens” and 2017’s “The Last Jedi.”

The film, which showcases the climactic battle between Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren as well as closes the epic family drama of Skywalkers, capped off Disney’s big year at the box office.

The company made over $11 billion worldwide last year. That blew past the industry record of $7.6 billion, which was set by Disney in 2016. Disney also released seven of the top ten highest-grossing films of the year in North America, including the entire top six.

With “Rise of Skywalker” making more than $1 billion, Disney broke its own record. The previous high for $1 billion film in a single year was also set by Disney when it had four $1 billion films in 2016.

It’ll be awhile before we have another Star Wars film, which won’t hit theaters until 2022.

In the meantime, fans can get their fix of the Force on Disney+, the company’s new streaming service, which is home to “The Mandalorian,” the service’s flagship original series set in the Star Wars galaxy and all of the beloved Star Wars films that came before “Rise of Skywalker.”
