Fyolup: Eyes on me

When neteyam was told that his cute fyolup was coming with Norm to the metkayina village, he was over the moon. How he missed her so much! There was so much neteyam to tell her. What he learned, how his new life settled, but most of all, how much he has grown. And of course show off what he is capable of. Not to mention his new tattoos on his arm.

Already neteyam has things planned out for when she arrives. A full day of great activities, some including his siblings and some just for them two. Just thinking about it gets him riled up.

But also, Neteyam wonders what cute clothing fyolup would wear? Something suitable but also stylish to fit her taste. Of course, knowing her, fyolup would wear something for his eyes only and no one else.

“Neteyam!”

The sweet sound of the voice he longed to hear again called out to him. On the sandy beach, not too far from him stood was fyulop. She has grown a lot in the past few months. Wearing his favorite teal summer dress, and a bright smile on her cute face.

Unable to hold it in, neteyam makes a run for it, and so does fyulop. Meeting each other in the middle, the girl jumps into his arms as he holds her tightly as he spun her around. Loud laughter escaped their lips, wide smiles and great happiness. For fyulop, it felt so good to be back in her lover’s arms. The feel of his skin touching hers, hearing his voice again. She missed it so much.

Not putting her down, rather carrying her on his shoulder, they stare at each other's eyes and foreheads touching. “I missed you ma’sevin” neteyam whispers to her ear. Humming in agreement, she nods. “And I have missed you ma’yawne” she replies. Having not rush to go back home, neteyam takes his time to show her firstly the grand beach. Holding her tightly so that she doesn't fall, not like she will. Neteyam starts to talk, letting his mind wander on recent memories.

And fyulop is all more eager to listen.

“Neteyam, while I appreciate you looking at me for a long time, I am having self doubts now. Does it look good or not…?” Fyulop asks nervously. When she revealed her swimsuit, neteyam was in deep awestruck. He couldn't help but stare at her.

Her swimming outfit was a two piece. Strapless top with a matching bottom that was light blue with thin waving white lines. Giving the illusion of underwater lighting. To add to her personal touch, fyulop collected small shells from the beach and added it to her swimsuit. It is the little things that make things stand out more.

“I'm sorry love, it's just…oh eywa you look breathtaking” neteyam praises. Red hue colored fyulop’s cheeks. She certainly missed his praises.

Offering his hand, fyulop accepts. “Come on, there is so much I want to show you” neteyam tells her excitedly. Taking her from his family pod, he carefully leads her through the rather bouncy paths. Fyulop couldn't help but giggle as she bounces her way. It was like jumping on a trampoline!

“Here, this is an ilu, like the dire horses at home. The people here use like in similar ways” neteyam explains while gently holding his ilu. Fyulop strokes its head gently, liking the pleasing sounds. And the ilu makes a sound of happiness, nudging his head against hers.

“He likes you” neteyam comments.

“I'm glad, cause I like him too. Such an adorable cutie you are” fyulop says in her baby voice.

Not far from where they are, ao’nung, rotxo, and lo’ak were nearing the shore with their ilu’s. Ao’nung noticed the human girl, his eyes fixated on her.

“Hey lo’ak, who is that?” he asks while pointing at fyulop. Lo’ak sees where he pointing at, “oh, that is fyulop. She came with our uncle norm to visit. Don't worry, she is harmless' ' lo'ak answers. But Ao'nung still couldn't stop staring at her or her pretty smile.

“Is she single?”

“Hey fyulop, long time no see” Lo’ak welcomes the human girl with glee. Giving each other a warm hug, lo’ak joins in on whatever she and neteyam were doing. “So you are just going to ignore us lo’ak?” Rotxo teases behind the forest boy. Chuckling a bit, lo’ak shakes his head. “Right, sorry”.

Gently pushing ao’nung and rotxo in front of him, he points at who is who, “fyulop, this is ao’nung and rotxo. Guys, this is fyulop, she was born and raised here in pandora like spider” lo’ak introduces.

Fyulop giggled lightly, something that made ao’nung blush a tiny bit. Her giggles sounded so cute. He looks over and sees neteyam staring down at her with love and adoration. Crap, are they together? Hopefully not.

“Nice to meet you both. I hope you treated neteyam and his family well?” Fyulop asks. This made the boys chuckle nervously. “What? What happened? Did you guys fight each other?” Fyulop asks curiously.

“Well…you see..”

“Skxawngs. All of you. Especially you neteyam. It is much for lo’ak to start but for you to continue it?” Fyulop gently scolds the boys as they tell her about their rough start of getting along. She gently tugs neteyam’s ear while making a playful yet serious face. Neteyam couldn't help but chuckle, her fingers were to ticklish!

Ao’nung saw their interaction, feeling his tail thump against the sand rather harshly.

“Speaking of, how much has neteyam showed you of our home?” he asks, switching the subject. Fyulop took a moment to think, “so far the pods, the beach and the cute ilu’s” she replies. Ao’nung make a clicking sound, shaking his head. “Clearly he is skipping the more exciting stuff. Why not let me show you the better parts of our home?” he offers.

Fyulop gasps happily, “really?” she asks.

“Of course, what better guide than me?”

Fyulop looks up to neteyam, her eyes already asking the question. He sighs, “he is right, but still”.

Taking the chance, ao’nung gets up and gently grabs fyulop’s hand already leading her the way. As he and fyulop began to chat, neteyam, lo’ak and rotxo looked at ao’nung with a surprised expression on their faces.

“Oh no he didn't”

“Oh yes he did”

“And here is where we mostly trade things. Fish for beads, seaweed for grains, just about anything. There is something for everyone” Ao’nung shows fyulop the common areas that the na’vi spend their time. He showed her all the best places, ao’nung was pretty proud and a bit smug too. Getting cute reactions from fyulop was a treat. Even better to see neteyam fuming behind them.

Fyulop was enjoying sightseeing. The metkayina was so vastly different from the omatikaya! From how they look, to their ways, culture and style of clothing. Already fyulop had ideas of creating ocean inspired clothing. Maybe style it similar to how the metkayina do.

Neteyam on the other hand did not enjoy it. Nope. Not one bit.

If looks could kill, ao’nung would be deep in the belly of an akula.

Ao’nung had the sheer balls to not only touch fyulop but also hug her! Fyulop’s hugs are exclusive to neteyam only! Ok maybe his siblings too but mostly him! And too see that puny fishy skxawng touching his beloved made his anger rise deep within.

And poor fyulop, took caught up in the new experiences didn't notice what fishlips was clearing trying to do.

Well, as her boyfriend and protector, neteyam knows what slimy things that fishy na’vi prince can do.

If ao’nung knew just how easy it was to sway fyulop to trust him, he would have done it on the spot! Fyulop is just so cute and her clothing suits her figure. Actually, speaking of her clothing.

Ao’nung haven't really seen much of how humans dress. So to see this human girl dress in a certain way excites him. There is a lot to learn and see something new within fyulop and hopefully be closer to her.

However, as days pass, almost as if on purpose, ao’nung takes fyulop’s time most of the day. Taking her wherever he wants, personally teaches her many things neteyam wanted to show her, among other things. And would shove the poor forest boy to the side. Giving no room for neteyam to intervene.

And it was pissing neteyam off.

Having enough of it, he did the only thing he knew best.

“You know fyulop, you interest me a lot. It would be nice if you stayed longer. Spending time with you has been a lot of fun” Ao’nung tells fyulop. Together they walk across the sandy shores, the small waves of the sea barely touching their feet.

“It certainly has been a lot of fun. And while living here seems like a good idea, I worry for neteyam. He already has enough stuff to worry about”

Ao’nung makes an annoyed sigh. “I doubt that. But either way, at least think it over. We could have a lot more fun. Together”. He holds fyulop’s hands into his larger ones. Making eye contact and hopefully what he is trying to do works.

Only it didn't.

Fyulop was gently yanked back by an angry neteyam.

“I think you had enough time with her,” Neteyam says. Trying his best not to hiss at ao’nung. But the reef prince scoffs a bit smugly. “And who are you to choose for her? She can do what she wants”.

“You’re absolutely right ao’nung” Fyulop agrees.

The boy smirks at neteyam who only glares harder.

“That means I can do this”

With a gentle yet quick yank from his necklace, neteyam was yanked down and was given the most passionate kiss ever.

Fyulop was kissing him as if to prove something. And boy did neteyam enjoyed it. With zero hesitation, neteyam kisses back, laughing on the inside. If he were to have a fourth finger right now, he would be flipping it in ao’nungs face.

“And, what I want to do is spend my time with my sweet neteyam. Thank you ao’nung for showing me, but I think neteyam can take it from here” fyulop says with a not so innocent smile.

Ao’nung was shocked, flabbergasted, speechless, and everything else. Damn it.

“You heard her skxawng” Neteyam says with a victorious smirk on his face. Clicking his tongue, ao’nung leaves in defeat.

With a happy cheer, neteyam picks up his love and spins her around.

“You were so jealous~” the girl teases as she boops his nose. But neteyam caught her finger, gently nibbling it. “And you watched me. Didn't do anything to ease my heart” neteyam accuses. This made fyulop stroke his ears as she leans closer and asks in a cooing manner, “Than what can I do to ease your jealous heart?”

He grins and replies “you know what”

Can't Fix Fix A Broken Heart, Chapter 25

Tate has devised a plan to get a Girls Trip™ for the two of you, you just need to execute it to perfection.

I definitely don’t dream about having Ace snuggling me when I’m on my period. Like a living weighted blanket who would say sweet things into my ear. That is definitely not a wish of mine and complete self-indulgence.

This is the set up for the divergent endings. The good ending will be first, the bad ending will be last.

The next morning, you knocked on the door to the women’s quarters, holding your sketches under your arm. You knew you didn’t need to knock, it had been your living space too at some point. But it didn’t feel right to barge in unannounced. A very hungover looking Heidi cracked open the door and smiled weakly at you.

“What’s up?” she rasped at you. Evidently, more nurses than just Tate had a wild night.

“Is Tate up? I was hoping to get a few minutes with her before work.” You had all your ideas with you, you were ready to show her some and see which ones she liked.

“Yeah, gimme a sec,” Heidi replied, opening the door all the way. “Tate!” she yelled. There was a chorus of ‘shhhhh’ that rang out among the darkened room. Tate shuffled up to the door, looking worse for the wear. You smirked at her.

“How’re you feeling?” you asked with a bright smile. She glared at you, but without malice. “C’mon, I’ll make you my hangover cure. Chug it and we’ll chat after that.” Tate blinked slowly, but shuffled out the door and put her arm in yours. The two of you walked silently down the halls together, ending in the kitchen. Just like with Ace, you sat her down while you made your drink of lemon, honey, vinegar, chili peppers, seltzer, and a little dash of secret ingredient. Tate emphatically frowned when you handed it to her, but shrugged.

“Can’t be worse than whatever I drank last night,” she lamented. “Bottoms up,” she said, chugging the drink. You handed her the water right after, which she sipped. “So, I remember some of what we talked about last night. Did you say that you finished the sketches?”

You grinned at her, putting the drawings in front of her. “I did, we can go over them together and see what you like and what we need to change.” You spread them out, showing her your ideas. “Basically, these are mix and match pieces in a few colors. You can pair any of the tops with any of the bottoms for a good outfit. I even included skirts of various lengths in case you…miss…the mini skirts,” you finished with a wink. “I thought darker fabrics would be better in the case of bodily fluids. Teal and periwinkle tend to be universally flattering, no matter your skin tone, but black or gray are also good choices. In terms of fabric, cotton would be a good choice but we’ll have to go to a fabric store and find some samples…” You went on about dye lots, fabric blends, and clothing cuts, explaining everything in detail to Tate. She nodded along, looking through the sketches.

“So, what do you think? What can we change to suit your needs better?” you asked the now revived nurse.

“Absolutely nothing. These are incredible! I love the long pants, it’s so annoying to wash other people’s blood off the tops of your thighs.” She was looking over the drafts intensely, making notes with a pencil she had. “I have nothing to add other than you’re a genius. Let’s get off the boat at the next large island and get some samples. Make a whole day of it,” she said, putting her hand over yours and smiling kindly. You smiled back, but were unsure. You had a feeling it would take a lot of convincing for Marco to let you off the ship. “I’ll work on Marco,” Tate said as if reading your mind, “I have a plan.”

You felt lighter after your brief meeting with Tate. She had to go back to the infirmary for work and you had to go to breakfast. While you ate, Thatch was pretending to be upset with you because he found out that Ace had joined you and Marco for the night. You could tell he wasn’t actually upset but you still felt like you had to walk on eggshells.

“But we did that too, remember?” you reminded Thatch. “Ace came in once when you were brushing my hair for me?” You were seated on Thatch’s lap, like always, eating whatever he was serving you. And, like always, it was delicious.

“ Mija, of course I remember, Ace snores like a train and burns hotter than the sun when he’s dreaming of you,” Thatch scoffed. He speared another forkful of eggs and brought it to your mouth. You opened without thinking and chewed the gooey, cheesy dish. “Look mami , you ate it all, I’m so proud of you!” Thatch kissed the top of your head. Recently you noticed you gained some weight, your clothes were fitting differently. You felt physically well, better than you had in a long time. You couldn’t say the same for your emotional well being, but at least some part of you was healing.

“Thanks to you,” you said, giving Thatch a kiss on the cheek. He really was a good chef, and you were in a good mood from your conversation with Tate that morning.

“Someone’s feeling well,” Thatch commented. You hummed, you didn’t want to reveal your plans with Tate yet. It would take a lot of convincing but you thought she figured out a way to get off the ship together for a day. Thatch kissed you again, this time on your mouth, and set you down. You went off to work, feeling energized and ready to take on the day.

Until later that morning.

You felt a long gone but familiar sensation of cramping in your lower stomach. One of the only upsides to being starved half to death was that you lost your period for a long time. Obviously, it was a sign of incredibly poor health, but you liked to look on the bright side of things. You always had terrible cramps when you had your period, and it looked like this time would be no exception. You put your hand on your lower stomach, you needed to talk to the nurses quickly. You apologized to Blenheim, promising to fix his scabbard later in the day. You scurried off to the infirmary, hoping to avoid Marco.

Logically, you knew Marco was a doctor and had studied the female reproductive system. But you still felt much more comfortable talking to other women about menstruation than men. You slunk into the clinic, quickly ducking into one of the unoccupied examination rooms. Peeking through the cracked door, you waited until you saw a lurid pink miniskirt pass by the door. You darted out, scaring Bethany, who dropped her clipboard.

“You can’t just pop out at people like that!” she scolded you.

“Sorry,” you replied sheepishly. “I need pads and tampons, can I use the ones in the women’s bathroom here?” you whispered. There weren’t many women’s restrooms on the ship, you only knew of the ones in the infirmary and connected to the women’s quarters.

“Sure, they’re communal. You don’t need to ask,” Bethany replied at full volume. You hoped Marco wasn’t listening in.

“Thanks, see you later.” You sped off to the women’s bathroom in the infirmary, grabbing what you needed. You were still wearing a stupid dress, but you swiped some underwear from the clean patient laundry. They were too big, but it was better than nothing. If Marco was mad, well, he could solve the problem himself. Leaving the bathroom, you jumped as you saw the very man you were trying to avoid leaning against the opposing wall. Served you right for surprising Bethany, you supposed.

“Everything alright?” Marco asked, assessing you with his eyes. He was in doctor mode, which made you feel more comfortable. You knew what to expect when he was like this, he was professional, detached, and had good bedside manner.

“Oh, um, yeah. I just got um, my…period.” Marco smiled kindly at you.

“Congratulations yoi. It’s a sign of recovery. However, the first menstruation after extensive amenorrhea is often quite painful. I recommend you go lay down, rest and relax.” Even though it was phrased as a clinical recommendation, you knew it was an order.

“Ok Marco. Where should I go? I don’t want to ruin any-” Marco waved off your concerns.

“We’re all adults here, no one is upset by the human body. Ace cleaned his room, would you like to go there?” You tried to hide your disgust when you thought about Ace’s room and the last time you’d seen it. Marco laughed.

“I understand your hesitation yoi, but I checked it myself. It’s clean and always the perfect temperature. Go there. I’ll give you some medicine to take with you.” Marco left to rummage in a nearby cart, grabbing a bottle of low grade pain killers. “Take two, and drink some water. I’ll have Ace check on you in an hour or two.” Marco kissed you on your head, turned you around by your shoulders and sent you off with a little push. You didn’t feel that bad, you’d been having your period for many years. Going to lay down preemptively was overkill, you thought, but you weren’t going to disagree with Marco.

An hour later and you were glad Marco had sent you to lay down. You remembered having cramps, of course, but nothing like this. You were curled up on Ace’s freshly made bed, writhing in pain. After the first wave of cramps, you’d taken the pain killers, but they weren’t getting close to helping with the pain. Marco had stopped by briefly, bringing you tea, a hot water bottle, and tucking you under the covers. You asked him to heal you but he said there wasn’t anything wrong with you, that it was excess uterine lining being shed normally. There was nothing to heal, so his flames wouldn’t do anything. He had a busy day and couldn’t stay long but promised to send Ace up.

In between pains so intense you thought your stomach was being sliced in half, you took a look around Ace’s room. It was so much better than the first time you’d been in the room. He had cleaned out all the food, all the old papers, and done his laundry. Marco was right, it was warm and cozy. You weren’t sure if it was the room itself or if it was somehow the residual effects of his Mera Mera, but you didn’t care. You tried closing your eyes and falling asleep but the closest you could get was dozing in and out of consciousness.

Creaking, the door opened, and you heard Ace ending a conversation. You kept your back turned to the door and pretended to be asleep in case he could see you.

“ - don’t think she likes it, not like I do…” Ace sounded doubtful about whatever it was.

“Remember how you were when you joined yoi? All anger and fury? And now look at us,” you could tell he was speaking with Marco. “Give it some time, it will be everything you ever wanted. Family and love, happiness and a place where you belong, all here with us. Here, give her these,” Ace hummed, and it sounded like they kissed. Footsteps told you Marco left, and Ace opened the door, holding a few bottles of pills. He spotted you on his bed and kicked off his shoes, putting the bottles on his desk. You really wanted to ask him about what they were talking about but didn’t have the courage to admit you were listening in to their private conversation.

“Poor baby,” he said, as you heard him taking off his pants and knife.

“S’ok,” you replied, stretching a little. Ace got into the bed with you, crawling behind you. You whined, you didn’t want to be manhandled right now. You saw Marco had given Ace a bottle of vitamins and another of anti-nausea medication for you. You'd take them later, you couldn't move right now.

“Shhhh. S’gonna be alright.” Ace curled up behind you, spooning you. He moved your hands away from your lower stomach and replaced them with his own. You felt the gentle warmth of his Mera Mera heating you. You mewled and scooted backwards, snuggling into him. Ace buried his face in your neck and held you closer. He let you relax and drift to sleep, holding you tightly in his arms.

It was a challenging few days for you. Your period was lighter than it normally was, but extremely painful. You didn’t leave Ace’s room much, spending your time reading and thinking about your reply letter to Vista’s brothers. Thatch, Ace, and Marco all visited as they could, with Ace staying with you at night. They were actually…sweet. You wished they were always this way, then you’d have no doubts about staying on the ship with them. Thatch brought you desserts and savory food in equal measure and gave you massages when your muscles were tight. He didn’t make you sit on his lap but let you eat by yourself in Ace’s bed. He tried to hand feed you, but sulkily accepted when you declined. Marco brought you medicine, tea, pads, and more books from his collection. He made sure you were physically comfortable, bringing loose pants, extra blankets and pillows. Ace, of course, warmed you up and snuggled with you until you thought you would merge together on an atomic level. You were thankful he let you hole up in his room.

“Sorry, I know it can’t be easy having me in here all the time,” you said to Ace on the third day. You were laying in bed together, limbs entangled, facing each other. Ace was still dozing after the night you’d spent in each other’s arms. You were brushing his freckles lightly with your fingertips. You were feeling better, you’d be out of his room by the afternoon, you thought.

“S’great. Wish’is all the time,” Ace mumbled. “Would lock you in here’f I could,” he continued, putting his chin on the top of your head. You sighed because you knew that when you got up, you would be back to your previous life of rules and punishments from the three Commanders. You nuzzled deeper into Ace’s arms, keeping the real world at bay for just a few hours longer.

A few days later, you needed to find Ace once more. You and Tate thought you had figured out a way to finagle a girl’s day out of the Commanders. The two of you wanted to stop at the next big island, coming up in about a week. It was close to the calm belt, but you’d actually been to the island years prior. It was known for its large textile factory and incredible fabric inventory. You’d done a few fashion shows there, maybe you could use some of your previous fame to get a discount on fabrics, or at least try to. It also had a day spa that was known for its wet saunas and hot tubs. You really wanted to go with Tate and enjoy a relaxing girls trip. Tate’s plan would require you to be crafty and a little conniving, but it would be worth it if it worked out.

Ace was going to go on a mission later that morning, you needed to find him quickly. He was still inhaling food in the mess hall after you’d eaten breakfast. You waited for him outside the mess hall, wanting to speak to him in private. When he left, you grabbed him by the arm and pulled him aside. You looked up at him with hope in your eyes.

“Ace, can I get off the ship with Tate at the next island? They have a fabric store I want to go to. Please?” You weren’t sure this would work, but you really wanted to go to the fabric store in person.

“Ah, I don’t think so. You’ll have to ask -” you stopped Ace from talking by pulling him down by his hat string to kiss him. You kissed him deeply, holding him at the back of his neck. All that time you’d spent with him in bed had you feeling connected to him, and you hoped the reverse was true as well.

“Please?” you asked again in a pleading tone. Ace smiled at you, disarmed by the forward display of affection.

“I know you’re trying to manipulate me, but I have to say, it’s working. OK, as long as someone’s with you. Ask Thatch or Marco, though, just to be sure. I’ll be gone by the time the Moby’s docking at the next island, and I’m not sure when I’ll be back.”

“Thank you Ace! Thank you, thank you” you kissed his cheeks every time you thanked him, making Ace smile even wider.

“You should ask me for favors more often, I like the way this is going.” Ace husked. He pulled you against him, you could feel his growing erection through his shorts. You rubbed up against him a little bit, teasing him.

“Let’s finish this in a bit, I need to go eat breakfast and Thatch doesn’t like when I’m late,” you replied. One last kiss to Ace and you were on your way. The first part of your plan had been a success.

Next, you waited until it was lunchtime. You were extra good for Thatch, complimenting his cooking and allowing him to feed you without complaint. You finished about two thirds of your food before you started talking to him about the island.

“Thatch, I have a favor I want to ask you,” you began, eyes wide.

“If I can grant it, I will mami. What do you need?” Thatch rubbed your palm with his thumb.

“Can I get off the ship with Tate at the next island? There’s a fabric store I want to go to for the new nurses’ uniforms.” You looked at Thatch hopefully.

“Ah. No, I don’t think so. I don’t want -”

“But Ace already said yes, I was so excited,” you said while making yourself cry. Tears fell down your face and you twisted the knife in Thatch’s heart. “I t-told Tate we could g-go, and I was going to invite y-you -” Thatch frowned and rubbed away the tears from your cheeks.

“ Querida, if it’s that important to you, I’ll talk to Marco. We can try to make it work. I’m not sure it will happen, but we’ll try.” You smiled, stopping the tears.

“Thank you Thatch! Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Just like with Ace, you kissed him with every thank you.

“ Mija it’s not a guarantee, you understand that, right? I don’t want you to be upset if it doesn’t work out in the end,” Thatch said, still stroking your cheek. You gave him a genuine smile - you knew he would try his hardest to let you off the ship. He would go and talk to Marco on your behalf and try to convince the Phoenix into letting you off the ship. Marco would be the toughest of the three, but you thought between you, Thatch, and Tate it would be possible to convince him. You exchanged a few more kisses, thanking him, until he had to leave to prepare lunch for the crew. Part two of Tate’s plan had worked.

Marco found you in the afternoon as you were on the deck leaning against the main mast, relaxing. You were still taking it easy but the little work you’d been doing had tired you out. How did the crew break so many toilets?

“So I hear you want to have an excursion on the next island,” Marco began, standing over you. He seemed to be in a good mood, or at least hadn’t outright denied you. His half open eyes showed some amusement, which was a good start.

“There’s a textile store that I want to go to with Tate. To get samples for the nurses’s uniforms. I haven’t been off the ship yet.” You tried to keep yourself from rambling but it was always hard for you to keep your cool around Marco.

Marco hummed. “And it has nothing to do with the spa on the island yoi?” You looked up at Marco with wide eyes. He still seemed amused, he wasn’t mad with you yet. He squished your cheeks gently between his thumb and index finger, the corners of his lips quirked up into a cold smile.

“Tate asked me about the store and the spa. And Thatch also came to talk to me about it. You’ve been working everyone to get off the ship yoi.” You swallowed dryly, you felt caught. “You’ve been a good Doveling lately yoi. Had a hard time this week. I’ll allow it with the understanding that one of us will be with you at all times.” He squished your face with a little more force. “We wouldn’t want you to get lost or hurt. We’re always looking out for you, you know that, don’t you Doveling?”

You nodded. “Yes, Marco. Thank you Marco.” you replied. Even though Marco had said he allowed it, you felt the lingering threat behind his words. He’d be watching your every move and if anything went wrong on this trip, you didn’t think you’d ever be let off the ship again.

“You can show your appreciation to me later tonight yoi,” Marco said, moving his hand from your face to your hair, pulling it gently. You were forced to tip your face up even higher. “It’s quite lenient of me, don’t you think?”

“Yes, Marco. Thank you, Marco.” You shivered thinking about what Marco would want in exchange for allowing you off the ship for a day. He kissed your mouth briefly and released his hand from your hair.

“Stay here and relax a little longer. You look like you need it yoi.” You agreed. It felt like you’d have to pay for your time off the ship with a pound of flesh. And you knew they would be collecting.

an analysis of clothes in st (part i) - the meaning of yellow within the party

so, this analysis is one that has been in the making since before s4 came out - i literally had to dig through old discord messages to look for what i was talking about two years ago. i'm hoping to make this into a series because i loved analyzing the outfits back then and i wanted to share what i thought about them! the costume designers put so much thought and effort into all the clothes and i'd love to try to understand why they chose what they did for specific moments. heads up! - this analysis series will mainly cover the party members. outfits are important within the entire context of the show as well, so i may include other group members from time to time. however, my primary focus on st has always been the party members, so i'm gonna be giving them the main focus in all of the posts.

let's start with my favorite meaning for the clothes: yellow.

when party members wear yellow, they tend to be in situations where they are trying to fit in or act normal, typically when regarding relationships, but could also be within society, a situation, or in general. i have four examples of yellow being used as a signal that these characters are put in situations where they're trying to fit in / act normal - one of max, one of the entire party, and two of mike. let's start with max!

example one: in s2e3, we watch max trying her best to fit in with the boys when dustin is showing them dart. despite her attitude when they first meet her, she obviously does want to be friends with these guys regardless. in this episode, max wears a yellow hoodie while all the boys wear variants of the same neutral grays/whites, dark blues and reds, showing the difference between max and the other party members. she has not "earned" her keep yet, and she's trying to fit in but she is not yet in the know of the upside down.

even el is wearing similar colors to the rest of the boys, another clear sign that she is "in" the party too, despite being away from them. they did something similar in the previous episode as well, where the boys + el wore matching costumes (boys were ghostbusters and el was a ghost), while max wore a costume that didn't have her fit in (michael myers).

all of the current party members have the colors gray, red and/or blue that tie them all together in that scene, so max's yellow hoodie makes her stick out like a sore thumb. a side note is that mike and will are the only members to have all three colors on them, and matching color outfits between couples tend to be common in the show.

example two: in s3e1, the opposite happens. everyone in the party except dustin is wearing a combination of blue and/or yellow. dustin is wearing primarily green, which i will explain the meaning of in another post. all i'll say about it now is that the color green most likely has to do with being comfortable or confident in your own identity.

will, however, is a special case, because he was actually not wearing yellow in that scene, only blue and a stripe of red. personally, i thought it was to set up how will's growth that season wasn't completely about societal expectations regarding romantic relationships like the rest of his season group. his character arc was much more about having to grow up and understand change when he doesn't want to because of the trauma he'd experienced the previous seasons. this is actually also reflected in his clothes - will is the only one that season to not wear any new colors (he only wears the three primary colors -> red, blue and yellow) while the rest of the party got to wear both secondary and primary colors (mike wore teal, el and max wore many different colors, lucas wore purple, and dustin wore green + orange).

back to the party - in that scene, the couples also match each others outfits. mike and el's have the same color scheme, being mainly blues with a small hint of yellow, and lumax having the perfect blend of yellow and blue together. this may be a stretch, but its a possible hint to show that lumax fit together, while mike and el don't.

the party members that were dating each other wearing yellow that season was to show their attempts to act normal via relationships. season 3 was also the one that the duffers kept referencing as the summer of love, despite all the couples that season being dysfunctional.

examples three and four: now, we're at the section of mike wheeler, my favorite closet case. he is the main reason as to why i noticed that there was a small pattern with the color yellow being used in the party's wardrobe.

i think we've all noticed that mike has a tendency to act very... straight when he's wearing the color yellow as his main color. this can be seen in both s3 and s4, especially during the episodes where mike is hyperfocused on his relationship with el.

when mike was wearing the first outfit in s3, he was searching for a way to make it up to el because he lied to her. though he was trying to act normal or learn to be normal for their relationship, he wasn't doing a great job of it. during that entire section, mike was going through the motions of learning how a straight man is supposed to act, with lucas by his side giving constant straight man advice. he was also not getting it.

now, onto what is possibly my favorite outfit in the entire series - mike's s4e2 outfit. first of all, he's wearing a yellow shirt over a purple undershirt, presumably for el because that's her favorite colors apparently. obviously, mike is not himself in this outfit, but he's trying to fit into this california tourist look for his girlfriend.

in this outfit, mike was trying extremely hard to only focus on being el's boyfriend and not will's best friend. we know how that went, and this outfit helped us realize how badly mike was doing trying to follow that mindset.

before s4, we were never given any indication that mike's style would be like this. michael wheeler should not be wearing an outfit that has a yellow hawaiian shirt, the color purple, a visor and sunglasses, and flip flops to top it all off. it doesn't fit his normal style that he's normally been shown wearing throughout the show, being button ups, polos, and for that season, black jeans and chuck taylors.

he was intentionally put in an outfit that did not follow his true identity. the shirt, thus the outfit and the het identity that mike was attempting to fit into, was literally called a "shitty knockoff" by argyle.

i'm positive there are way more examples that can be used, but these are the ones that stuck out to me the most. i'll leave off with some ending thoughts:

we as bylers have always considered will's main color to be yellow, but from what i've noticed in each season, the majority of his outfits have blue, same as mike (matching couple's colors)! in fact, s4 was the first time where the majority of the season had will wearing yellow, probably because of how he was dealing with his crush on mike at the time. i'd like to point out that the main colors that lucas and max wear are also the same, being red.

i'd love to do another one of these, the next one probably being about the color green because i think i have a grasp on the reasoning behind that color. other than that, i still really need to analyze the colors of their outfits again because i think the party's clothes specifically are most indicative of their behavior. since they are the youngest group, they are the ones who are the most volatile and it's reflected in everything, especially their clothes!

ranting abt moonlight again bc holy FUCK THIS FILM IS SO SMART AND SO GOOD WITH ITS COLOR

this hyperfixation will drag me into the ground and i will happily go along

spoilers for the movie (if u havent seen it go watch it mf its pride month) also discussion about religion (kind of), homophobia, black masculinity identity and culture, ect ect

no because how tarell mccraney and barry jenkins used the color blue as a symbolism in this movie is SO FUCKING GOOD i feel like in almost every scene u can see a color being used in a symbolic way

in my interpretation at least, blue here represents both vulnerability, security with one's identity but also masculinity (in the sense how blue is used in society to represent men and masculine gender roles, the expectations that come along), and which meaning of the blue is used is colored (ha get it) by the context of the scenes

at the end we reach the conclusion that masculinity and vulnerability can co-exist without contradicting each other in the final sequence of little in blue moonlight but WE WILL GET TO THAT IN A BIT

in the beginning chase sequence little is getting bullied and chased while he wears a blue backpack -> the blue here represents the vulnerability, and how it paints a target on chiron to get bullied by other kids

even in subtle details like how juan drives a blue car but doesn't wear blue on himself, how teresa wears blue through-out the movie, how there's hints of blue in juan and teresa's home (in that scene where juan has little sitting with his front to the door but back to the blue, but we the audience can see it, smth tells me its supposed to be how juan is trying to put up a front to act as a reliable older figure for little which GUH JUST SHOWS HOW MUCH HE CARES), his house's walls and mother wore blue at the beginning scenes which shows when he was younger he could feel and project vulnerability into his own home at one point

during the little section, after the chase sequence little is shown wearing a red shirt while other kids, including kevin, wear white and blue. white here is sort of used as a neutral color of uncertainty and perhaps innocence, while red is the opposite of blue; it's invulnerability, but also insecurity and femininity (which lines up with how chiron's mother wears red in the scene she yells at him), and it shows how chiron is outcasted with the kids, bc of his quiet nature

during the chiron section, the bully wears red and black, contrasting against chiron's mainly light colored outfits. i thought a long time for what the yellow could stand for, and maybe it's there to represent whenever chiron feels love towards another character (teresa, kevin, in specific scenes with his mother) or that sense of escapism (when he was running to the beach at night), his shirt for 80% of this section is a plaid shirt with yellow blue and white sort of mixed up together and a blank white shirt inside

before and during the betrayal scene, he wears a white shirt with blue lines, no yellow anymore bc it felt like he doesn't need to imagine kevin's love for him only exists in dreams. it's reality now, and it makes things more clear for him and his identity (THEIR SHIRTS EVEN MATCH LIKE THEY COMPLETE EACH OTHER IM GONNA CRY.)

also it might be to distinguish when its masculinity or vulnerability but the shade of blue used during the revenge scene is a more teal blue while the moonlight blue is like a natural real blue without a tint of green (i could yap on abt how green is used but this is getting too much)

now during the black section of the film, yellow is first used to represent anxiety for chiron when he wakes up from the nightmare; that escapism and affection he felt for kevin and his mother now reminds him of what happened years ago. it still haunts him. and it also haunts kevin shown in the scene when he calls chiron to apologize (but at the center the lighting is blue. he calls in vulnerability)

as black travels back to confront his past and familiar ties, his mother now wears light blue which is contrasted against chiron's darker shade of blue shirt in the forgiveness scene (they're on different ends of the spectrum, but they're slowly healing, both on the same page of what they wanna do; heal from the past)

as the movie continues, the yellow in scenes slowly turns to represent familiarity and affection instead of anxiety, but the yellow doesn't look warm or as bright as before; there's still tension, things left unsaid. but at the centre, the focus point of these scenes, there's blue, and it isn't tinted by another color (the car drive scene, how blue light peeks in through the diner scene, when kevin changes into a blue shirt)

and the scene where black fucking says "you're the only man who's ever touched me." good fucking god.

he looks at kevin's shirt. he wants the blue. he wants to share the vulnerability with kevin.

when kevin holds chiron, the lighting is dark, and the yellow now is warmer, it represents familiarity and affection again. a lot of things are still a mystery to them, a lot still left unsaid, but everything feels familiar again in a new way, in a more intimate way.

and that fucking scene where little looks back in the blue moonlight, showing how chiron's vulnerability and masculinity don't have to contradict one another; he reaches security with his child self. he finally heals.

this movie is so, so beautiful.

This is my Miku pokemon trainer tier list

For this tier list its both my favorites and what i consider a very good miku design

Of course all of them are good miku designs but some shine above the rest

S tier- my absolute favorites Bug miku is so classy, so well thought out, and i think the brown looks amazing with her teal. Shes everything A close tie with bug miku is Ice miku her hair is everything to me im in complete love with this sharp miku. Water Miku is basic but that's all she needs in lovely simplicity, truly feeling like Miku in this world as a water trainer especially with her tan lines from her original outfit it feels like this is her off time from being an idol! Steel Miku had my heart as soon as I saw her with Jirachi. Which was my favorite pokemon when I was a child [it was prior before i even had any pokemon games of my own and only watched the movies] The colors, the motif of star, the hat and the hair its all wonderful to me!

A tier- Amazingly done concepts and totally miku! Rock Miku's dress and veil is lovely, i love they incorporated the veil as mock pigtails. If this was the verison of her without the dress then she would have been in S tier. I love the jester look but thats my own personal preference. She also reminds me of diance with the dress.

Flying Miku is gorgeous, the wispy hair, the translucent areas to mimic clouds and mist. It's an amazing concept and wonderfully executed design! Fairy miku i know is everyones favorite and it's obvious to see why, shes adorable and cute and I too would love to draw her. She has that appeal to her down to a T. Fighting Miku is something i've been waiting for this whole time. Of course no way they could do a pokemon collab with miku and not include farfetch'd! It's a sleek and simple design that takes traits of the original miku's outfit and tweaks them. Though she does kind of remind me of maka from soul eater just a small bit.

B tier- Great concepts! Electric Miku's lightening pigtails are so cute she looks like a little adventure/farmer of currents. She stands on her own as a design and as a tie to miku. Poison type Miku i would have done the same doing mucky/slime twintails though i probably wouldn't have thought to use the new alolan muk which is a very good look and helps add in the colors. It's a great design and while i wouldve put her in A tier some of her design elements hold me off. This is a top tier character design though trust me Dark Miku, i love she came with obstagoon. Though at first i couldnt even tell if miku had pigtails in the artwork. This reminds me just of a nice miku for a cover of an existing song which is not bad it's just how it feels. Normal type miku has good colors, shes paired with an active singing pokemon and while it's simple I think it conveys miku well enough. Though she keeps reminding me of the oversaturated stereotype of early 90s fashion. now on Ghost miku, shes higher than i'd actually put her but for her concept and simplicity of staying to miku but as a glitched out ghost version of her i do have to give props to that even if i find it more on the plain side. I think they succeeded in what was necessary even though this portrays miku AS the ghost instead of just a ghost trainer. ....honestly now that i type my words i feel like i was right and shouldve stuck with her in C tier.

C tier- too basic for my tastes yet still well done Grass miku is cute and all but if you told me she was unrelated to miku, i could believe you. Just that it'd be a fandom joke to call her 'green miku'

Fire miku, reminds me all too much of the anniversary miku song and im sure thats where they got part of the insipration from it but it doesnt really do much for me combined with the fire aspect and how her hair is shaped. I know its to mimic the pokemon shes with its just personal taste on that one. The silhoutte is good.

Ground type miku i had to keep looking up because i forget what shes supposed to be numerous times. Same case with grass miku, i could see someone telling me shes from x thing and unrelated to miku. I'm just not a fan of the design and colors but it's well done. I know when something is just my subjective taste rather than poorly done.

Dragon miku while i'm not the biggest fan of all the cowlicks going down the twintails i know it's purpose is there to mimic the spiked tail of a traditional dragon and i wouldn't want them removed. I think i especially just don't like the tacked on half shawl cape it feels disjointed. Yet i find its a nice concept they did both an almost knight look for her as dragon as always with the concept of knights and dragons battling. Now the knight trainer is battling with the dragon as comrades.

Psychic type miku- i think they started with the least interesting and noteworthy one honestly. It just looks, kind of uninspired but thats rude to say. I know shes here to fufill the concept of miku as a trainer in pokemon and well it just looks like she's her own trainer class that'd have multiple running around looking the same instead of a stand out like a rival or a gym leader in game.

Thoughts on the Crystal Ball outfits from Legend of Everfree for the Rainbooms, Lyra, Bon Bon, Derpy, Gloriosa Daisy, Timber Spruce, and Bulk Biceps?

Oh a whole bunch okay!

Sunset - The fire theming! The colors! I love her!

Pinkie - looks a touch goofy with the pantaloons but it really fits her

Sci-Twi - actually a bit bold for her! Fits well with the 'overcoming trauma' arc! I think the blues are a little too on the green side, but most of her scenes are either with Sunset(wearing teal) or Timber (blue-ish green hair) so I think it's intentional to match her with them

Rarity - for some reason this isn't hitting. I think it's too much purple-on-purple and then that one bit of green throws it off.

Applejack - I love love love this dress! You'd think I'd be against dresses on AJ since I criticize them so often and you'd be wrong I love dresses on her when it's an appropriate event like this!!

Rainbow - Thank fuck they didn't put her in another rainbow abomination. It's still colorful but it's blocks of primary colors letting the design itself stand out without clashing with her hair. The design works too, being a dress and harmonizing with the rest of the group, but including pants and not being as femme.

Fluttershy - I almost love this but it's one of those times her design leans more into the flora rather than the fauna. Like they want to give her some nature-y designs, but they focus on butterflies and flowers(vine motif, tulip-shape skirt). While ofc the butterflies work, it gives the vibes of gardener rather than animal caretaker. And while she doesn't /need/ to give off animal caretaker vibes 24/7, the plant theme is odd.

Lyra - Still somewhat suffers from the color issues she usually does, but the skirt having various blues smooths it out. I think if the top was a different color it'd be better (if they want to keep the pink maybe a softer shade?)

Bon Bon - a little goofy but I love the shape joke she's literally a bonbon ha! Colors are a little odd though. They're like more saturated hues of her hair.

Derpy - lmao why is she wearing what I low-key joked about with Fluttershy? Love the colors though.

Gloriosa - A little confused. Her top half seems to be giving 'sunflower' but her skirt is more 'autumn leaves' . It looks fantastic until you notice that.

Timber - basic suit. Kinda boring tbh. At least give us a cooler tie.

Bulk - Oh hell yeah. Once again: goofy but aboslutely his vibe and rocking it

Nekros -

Appearance: Nekros looks almost identical to the typical Geno. With a few changes of course. He wears a white jacket with a grey hood, a dark grey turtle neck, the typical red scarf, the classic sans shorts, and some grey boots. His left eye is covered by white glitches as per usual. He has the bloody slash going diagonally across his chest, with the top on the right. He has the usual Dust eyelight for his visible eyelight. (Art post will come later)

Nekros is standoffish, cautious of others. He's paranoid, often snapping at others despite them not having done anything. He experiences auditorial and visual hallucinations which increases his paranoia. Even without the paranoia, he's constantly on edge. The DT and LV mixing together to give him a hell of an adrenaline boost. He's also lowkey insane due to how many resets he's been through and how many times he's had to kill his loved ones. He's also not doing so great from watching his loved ones live through pacifist timelines without him (still deciding whether to have the whole soul splitting and making a new Sans thing happen or not..). When he gets out of the save screen, he often gets sensory overload due to how used to the save screen he is. No noise other than himself (and Reaper), no colors other than the few included in the save screen.

Flare -

Appearance: Flare looks like your typical Error sans, with a few changes of course. He has patches (colored mostly dark purple and dark grey) all over his clothes, along with stitches of various shades of purple. Instead of the blue markings, he has purple markings (you can probably guess that his strings are also purple). The yellow of his left eyelight is instead purple. He wears his scarf as a sort of hood. (His appearance is also linked in the pinned post!)

Flare, unlike Nekros, is highkey insane! He has lots of LV and it affects him very negatively. His hallucinations and paranoia are increased by tenfold. His haphephobia is also worse, leading him to attack long range. He crashes immediately upon someone touching him. He has a whole bunch of trust issues, he refuses to work with anyone unless he absolutely has to (this is also the reason he's not working with Nightmare). He is protective of the more violent and darker AUs, feeling a sort of kinship with them, though he doesn't know why. He'll occasionally have some moments where he's more calm and he's more willing to be around people. But those are very rare. He only really tolerates being around a few people, such as Outer and Swap. He despises both Ink and Fresh.

Nightmare -

Appearance: Nightmare wears a dark teal high neck shirt. The stomach area of the shirt has a corset esque design, with a flower pattern embroidered into it. The sleeves of the shirt are loose and somewhat baggy, only to tighten at the wrist and flare out at the end. He wears a long dark purple cloak with a moon clasp. The inside of the cloak has gold star patterns (constellations is probably the right word to use). He wears black pants that have many pockets sewn into them and black combat boots.

Nightmare is very awkward around people, and very blunt. He doesn't like to sugarcoat things, even if it does make people upset. Despite being an empath, he often struggles to comprehend emotions. He cares a lot for his gang and makes sure they all get therapy and take care of themselves. He feela regret for being too late to save someone from their fate. He hopes to one day be able to help Flare out, though he knows it will not happen anytime soon. He enjoys reading ofc, but also likes participating in everyone else's hobbies, even if he isn't the best at them.

Killer -

Appearance: Basic Killer appearance, HOWEVER!! This man has pins all over his jacket, he likes to collect them. He also has some of those little iron on patches. Like you get in girl scouts. His hood has cat ears on it :). He wears high top tennis shoes, like vans or smth, and refuses to unite them to put them on. He will just slip them on

Killer is a menace to the multiverse, he messes with anyone and everyone. He also is still learning what the concept of personal space is (... He got too close to Flare a couple times). He was the first one Nightmare picked up and after a lot of therapy he became a certified gremlin. He can actually be quite calm when he wants to. He'll often be seen just following the other members of the gang around or just hanging out with them. He likes to make pottery :). When on missions, he typically is the one who causes the most mayhem and property damage, often having to be dragged away by the others. He is the middle child

Cross -

Appearance: Cross wears a black turtleneck and a white slightly oversized jacket. He is typically seen with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The inside of his jacket is a dark purple. He has various flowers embroidered onto it in different colors. He wears dark grey cargo pants and black boots with sewn in vine details. He also wears a dull purple scarf with his heart locket under it.

Cross doesn't tend to emote much, you can tell what he's feeling by small twitches in his expression. Like his eyes narrowing or widening slightly, the corners of his mouth moving up or down slightly, etc. This man can't show his emotions properly. He's also pretty quiet most of the time, he tends to scare the other members of the gang by accident. Like Killer, he can be seen following people around from time to time, making sure they're safe. It's a habit from his days in the royal guard. He enjoys gardening a lot, he finds it relaxing to tend to the flowers he's planted. He's pretty protective of those he cares about, often anxious about losing them like he lost those in Xtale. He can often be seen taking with XChara, who is of course invisible to others. During missions he often tends to go straight for the target, wanting to get it done as fast as possible.

Horror -

Appearance: Horror wears a thick dark grey jacket that has fur on the hood. Like Killer, he has various patches on his jacket. He wears a black knitted turtleneck. He has maroon fingerless gloves that have violet accents. He wears black cargo pants and dark brown hiking boots.

Horror is usually pretty calm most of the time. He often gets distracted when doing tasks and forgets what he's doing. He doesn't like speaking all too much due to the trouble he has, so he uses sign language most of the time. He enjoys making dark jokes and seeing the reactions he gets. He cares for the other members of the gang a lot and makes sure they care for themselves. During missions, he usually is the one keeping an eye on Killer so he doesn't cause too much trouble. He enjoys cooking and baking and also likes taking photos. He was the second one to picked up by nightmare and is the oldest child. He has his own section of the garden for growing various crops so he can use them in food and takes care of it with the help of Cross.

Ink -

Appearance: Ink typically wears various colorful sweaters that are covered by light brown overalls that have paint covering them, they also have a pocket filled with various pens. His vials are in a belt instead of a sash and each one has unique caps so Ink doesn't forget what they are used for. He wears artist gloves that have colorful patterns on them. He wears simple black slip on shoes and has rainbow socks. He wears a cream colored scarf that has many notes on it.

Ink doesn't understand emotions at all. He understands the basics of them but also doesn't understand things like tears of joy. He struggled a lot to figure out what emotions the vials gave him, he often uses situational cues or facial expressions to know which vial to take. He will sometimes hurt other people's feelings and not realize until they tell him. He is very hyper most of the time, having a hard time doing one task for a long period of time. He is very good at multitasking despite his memory issues. He will often avoid some of the more negative AUs because he believes that it is just their story playing out, though he will occasionally visit Fell universes. He has a tiny bit of hope that he could help Flare change for the good (... It gets tinier with every destroyed au. This man is NOT committed to this). He's very annoyed with Nightmare for messing with AU storylines and just messing with AUs in general.

Dream -

Appearance: Dream wears a short golden cloak with a sun clasp, the inside being darker and having silver vine patterns. He has the same type of shirt as Nightmare, but in white. He wears a golden brown vest with yellow accents. He wears black pants and grey boots with light blue accents. He still wears his circlet.

Dream is a very positive individual. He does his best to keep everyone happy. He doesn't like the idea of negativity in the multiverse unless for specific things, like grief. Otherwise he'll do his best to keep people from experiencing negative emotions. He overworks himself a lot, with Swap often making him take breaks. He wants to go back to how things used to be with Nightmare. He knows that's his brother, and not some evil parasite or whatever, but he still wants the brother he knew back. He wishes Nightmare would give up on spreading negativity so they could stop fighting. He is often put off by Ink's emotions due to how artificial they feel. He does his best to avoid Flare, knowing how dangerous he is. He does his best to visit aus, but can't do it often without interfering with the story.

Swap -

Appearance: .... I'll update this later he's being stubborn...

Swap is pretty neutral in regards to things. He isn't on any particular side most of the time, though when he is it is usually with the Stars. If he sees nightmare or any of his gang in an au, he won't step in or interfere with what they're doing unless people are getting hurt. He's managed to form a very shaky friendship with Flare, and refuses to fight him during battles because of it. He tries to help out whenever he can with whoever he can. He likes taking care of his friends, making sure they eat, sleep, and just relax. He doesn't tend to travel the multiverse much unless necessary, preferring to stay in his own AU with his brother. He can get hyper at times, but surprisingly he is pretty calm most of the time.

Reaper -

Appearance: Reaper wears a long black hooded cloak that has silver swirls embroidered on the bottom, it also has sleeves. The clasp of the cloak is a small gaster blaster with blue gems for eyes. Under the cloak he wears a dark grey turtleneck and black pants. He wears dark brown gladiator sandals

Reaper is pretty chill compared to the other gods, he doesn't like to interfere with the others' problems as long as they don't interfere with his job. He'll sometimes go around scaring people just by following them around only to go "not your time, see you when it is!" and disappear. He tends to bug Nekros whenever he has free time, making sure he doesn't go even more crazy. He'll often bring him small gifts, like rocks or jewelry or food. His humor is dark humor, especially death related stuff. He finds it funny how uncomfortable it makes people.

Downton Abbey Fashion 11 - post-war outdoors fashion

Have you had enough of coats and walking dresses already? Too bad; I can talk about this all day.

Especially since Violet never lets up. She’s wearing at least two dead animals in this picture, the brown fur that dominates her coat and probably makes it as warm as expensive, and whatever bird had to leave its feathers for this hat (okay, I shouldn’t be so harsh; she could have gotten those from a perfectly normal seasonal moulting). But still, I’m judging this for the blatant display of affluence during war times.

A little better. I love the champagne velvet collar, although this smocking technique dates it massively, for one because that’s not really a done thing as it doesn’t serve the sleek, streamlined look that’s coming up, and also because this needs so much material and we’re in WWI. Violet repeats this coat in season 4, and with some extra jewelry too – this is one for fancy occasions and dinners with guests.

Something comparatively simple… insofar one can talk of simple at this amount of black silk, but that’s probably why it’s going so low on the decoration. I do like the rolled up braid elements on her shoulders. And a rather understated hat, although since this outfit returns in season 3 as mourning garb, it gets a pretty lace veil added to it. But the coat was introduced in an everyday context, so I’ll just keep it here.

One of those day dresses that Violet wears both in the house and outside. Look, if they don’t change dresses every time they go outside for five paces, I’m not going to be fastidious about it. Love the teal silk on top, and the embroidery practically flows seamlessly from that on the blouse she wears under it, although that is heavily beaded and thus much more sparkly.

This one has definitely more of an outside feel to it; it has a decent lining layer and the top fabric looks rather robust (might be a tweed). I love the structure of both fabrics, the ribbed lining and the checker on top. Since it looks fairly simple, Violet can afford to combine it with a richly patterned blouse and a velvet-covered hat with a colorful flowered wrap.

This. This is one of my tragic favorites, in that I feel she only wears it once and I don’t get any more pictures of it. Red is admittedly an untypical color for Violet (heh, see what I did there?), but just look at this fabric! It’s all wonderful tiny maple leaves! Maple truly has some of the most beautiful leaf shapes. The embroidery on the collar carries on the plant theme and goes a little into pink shades, and for a change, Violet goes with a rather simple blouse, lace though it may be, it is understated and lets the red and black on top do its thing. Also one of her typical big slanting hats, wrapped in matching red tulle. Neat.

With a much more muted color, this blue-almost-grey pinstripe walking dress is one she wears several times, including in her own home. The only decoration is that pretty black and purple lace trim with a small lilac piping around the neck, but I feel pinstripe usually speaks for itself anyway.

This one looks quite similar in shape; Violet is very sure in her style and especially her V-wrap top dresses that she wears both outside and in the house. Interestingly, this has a patterned fabric hiding behind the white lace trim, although it is mostly covered with that pinkish purple chiffon. I’m shocked, shocked I tell you, by the sheer understatement of this hat. A small straw hat with a lil’ cockade? It looks so bourgeois. Violet, honey, are you alright? And I may be mistaken, but I think we see this dress again in season 4 minus the chiffon wrap? Look, this seems to be the same white lace frame.

Isobel’s coat game is simple but bountiful this season. This black one she’s wearing, I think, during one of Bates’ courtroom procedures. It’s got some embroidery on the lapels, and she chose a blouse that matches nicely with the hat in regards to colors.

Heh, I remember that sailor collar and that eyeroll on Robert. This is one of Isobel’s favorite coats to climb on a soapbox in. It looks nice enough, although imo it could have done with a little less grey and a little more blue. I do like the buttons on the sides, allowing this some waist shaping in times of 1920s “what’s a waist I don’t know her” attitude.

Speaking of said attitude, that would make this style of coat rather a little older. But it is a little bluer, which gets my approval. There’s not much to hate about this, although admittedly, there’s also not much to look at.

Beige pinstripe coat for the win, but I wanna talk about this hat for a hot second. Because several years later, all the way in season 5, this hat reappears on Mrs Hughes. I’m really quite sure she only swapped out the silk ribbon for one with a little embroidery. Now we know that the servants of the house occasionally get clothes from Upstairs, but Isobel doesn’t live at Downton. How does it make sense for her to hand over a hat to Mrs Hughes?

And last but not least, a pretty grey walking suit with a collar framed in black velvet. Looking closer, the fabric is another pinstripe, which earns it some of my instant approval. Interestingly, the hat shape is one I mostly associate with Mary who is quite a bit younger. You know how long this is here? When it has its great comeback? Not after one year, not after three; it returns in goddamn season 5!

Well, I guess if Violet has to strut her fur coats, so does Cora. At least it’s not so massive. What I find more unusual is that she pairs a black velvet coat with a chestnut brown velvet hat. However, either piece is quite pretty. I love the front of the coat with the big lapels and that big enameled gold button to shut it.

This is one of the pieces that completely change color with the lighting. See that? These are both the same scene, and the coat looks very grey in one shot and very purple in the next. Cora is going with a sailor theme here; I wouldn’t be surprised if the hat and the coat had come in a set, what with the black ribbon trim everywhere.

Tweed! Lovely grey tweed, and I love this style of coat; I find the slightly more voluminous sleeve tops quite a bit more flattering than the all-flat 1920s fashion. Also, with not even the collar lining bringing in a contrast color, this is trying to be a whole understatement, presumably so Cora can flaunt her pheasant feathers with that pretty little brooch on her hat. I don’t think we see this grey hat again, but the feathers will have a come-back.

Rosamund gets some stylish outside looks this season, although I have to admit that her fur coat looks a tad more like fake fur. It is historically possible, but why ever would a member of the aristocracy wear anything fake when they can afford the real deal? Doesn’t matter; I’ve never looked at real fur up close. Maybe it looks like that. Lovely hat; makes Rosamund look like a film diva in this outfit.

Fake fur begone, authentic velvet incoming. Okay, this just nails it. Look at that silver art deco embroidery around the collar and on the cuffs and pockets! It has pockets. This is a majestic outfit. And then there are the little grape earrings which are fucking adorable.

Another very nice walking suit – I’m here for the curved elements which seem to be entirely decorative on skirt, cuffs and collar, but I think those on the sides of her jacket mark pockets. At least I hope so. I’m also mildly surprised at how nicely the brown tweed adds up with the burgundy velvet hat. And it needs to be mentioned: Crawley cameo ear studs!

Okay, they are more clearly visible in this shot. This is one of the occasions when I’m not sure where to put this regarding purpose; she’s not wearing a hat, but the jacket kind of says walking suit… and it has some darling velvet trim with a silver shimmer. Very smooth and understated otherwise, so Rosamund can afford to go with the ruffliest lace blouse she could find.

This is one of the coats where I wanted to say Rosamund’s eternal curse of repeating other people’s outfits comes in again, but I was wrong: She wears it first, and then Susan MacClare wears it in season 3 and covers that very same collar up with the glamor of a fur stola and a pheasant-feathered hat. There seems to be a theme of people wearing brown tweed for a hunt as much as they do white and off-whites in the garden, and I’m not sure if that’s just tradition or if it actually does anything to camouflage them when they insist on running around with guns and bickering among each other anyway.

In chronological order…

She wore this cream suit to Royal Ascot in June 1992, just 5 months later she wore it again to marry her sweetheart Tim 🥰 she also rewore the hat in the first photo at Royal Ascot, 30 years later, this year!

She wore this Teal coat dress to Royal Ascot in June 1991, then in 2005 she rewore it to her brothers wedding to Camilla.

Princess Anne wore this yellow number at Charles and Diana’s wedding in July 1981, 27 years later she wore it to her cousin, Lady Rose Gilman (née Windsor) wedding in July 2008

She has worn her look from Peter and Autumns wedding in 2008 to the RAF Centenary service at Westminster Abbey in 2018. LOOK AT HOW CUTE THEY ARE LINKING ARMS AT THE WEDDING 😭

She has worn her purple and green floral dress three times! At William and Catherine’s wedding in 2011, Ladies Day at Royal Ascot in 2012 and to a garden party at Buckingham Palace in 2015!

She rewore the look she wore for her daughter, Zara’s wedding in 2011 at Royal Ascot the following year but swapped her floral fascinator for a wide brimmed hat.

I’m not sure if Anne has worn this robe style dress again that she wore to Harry and Meghans wedding in 2018 i can only imagine what the headlines would read 🤦‍♀️

She rewore the emerald green dress she wore to Princess Eugenies wedding this year at Royal Ascot!

Most certainly one of her most favourite looks and one she keeps going back to is this yellow and blue coat dress with a matching hat. She has worn it five times in public at the Easter service in 2007, Royal Ascot in 2009, her cousin Lady Gabriella Kingston (née Windsor) wedding in 2019, in New Zealand in 2023 and to the Jersey Zoo in 2023.

Time for round 2 of my look back on Stede's S1 clothes with the new layers added by S2.

This will probably entirely be focused on episode 4, because there's a heck of a lot of stuff going on here, what with the flashbacks and everything.

I've done previous posts about a lot of his outfits in Bridgetown that make him blend in with the backgrounds, but I also want to take a look at them in the context of who he was and the people around him.

First we have the carriage suit, when he's basically being sold off in marriage for a land-contract.

Compared to his father's austere black outfit, Stede's outfit is very, very dramatically different with the patterns. But specifically, it is the colour and pattern of the interior of the carriage. Like the carriage, he is a commodity, an object to be used and disposed with as Dad Bonnet sees fit.

Also I love that they put Stede and Mary in opposite colour palettes from the word go: she's in light clothes while his are mostly dark; he's sitting on a pale seat with a darker background while she's sitting on a dark seat with a pale one. A set up for contrast and contradiction.

Next we cut to the wedding flashback and Stede's still in the same cut and style of coat, but like Mary has an extra froth of lace on his cravat. It's a wedding. Gots to be special. (And again, the blue/white froth combo when he's near the sea)

The colour of the coat is fascinating. Reds, browns and grey with that splash of teal in there. It's not a colour we see Stede in much, but significantly, across both seasons red in a fabric becomes the symbol of love. Here it's subdued and dulled down by stronger colours, which makes sense when he's a man who wanted to marry for love. No place for all-out red here.

When we jump forward several years, the clothes are telling more of a story. Stede is in blue-toned (sea) clothing when we know he's already well on his way to planning his ship, while Mary is dressed in earthy tones (land) with flowers.

They're in contrasting colours again. There's no scene where they're together that they ever actually match their clothing. Even in the family painting from episode 1, Stede is in his blue tones while Mary and the children are in warm yellows and browns.

But - adorably - when Stede is playing with the kids, they're wearing shades of blues and greens like he was, a sign that he did have some connection with them, even as tenuous as it was.

And look at that scale motif on his waistcoat :D Someone had mermish aspirations.

On we go and to the wedding anniversary gifts and what I love about this outfit is that this is the very, very first time we see all Stede's outfit turn towards the warmer end of the spectrum.

He's had his ship built and he's about to tell his wife about it and this is the closest he's come to matching her right before he tells her this fab thing he's done for the whole family, including her. His waistcoat is nearly identical in colour to her dress.

The fact that he dons her colour and it's the same colour as his battle jacket? Interesting, no? Which also happens to be the colour of cowardice and fear. And yet ironically, also hope and warmth. It's a fine, fine line.

And then we have the nightshirt with the golden waves embroidered on it. Sir, your yearning is strong.

Oh and to get back on the yellow horse, our man ran away without telling one while wearing a yellow outfit. That really is his colour coded towards being afraid but Doing the Thing anyway.

And now, we're back to the present and Stede is once more in his bed nook in his yellow battle jacket, lamenting what a terrible pirate he is. Second time in 4 episodes. Well done, sir. Your emoting Jacket is working.

And I just had to take a moment to go and cackle into a cushion when I was capping the next moment, because Stede's next outfit is comprised of what I like to call the Slutty Red Breeches of Lurve.

Because he went into his closet with this man who showed a keenness for fingering fine fabrics and especially asked about silk. So what does our man Stede do? Grabs a pair of silk breeches in the canonically confirmed colour of love and holds them right in front of his crotch with a beaming, optimistic smile on his face :D

And the very very next frigging scene starts with Blackbeard's head level in the shot with Stede's red-clad crotch. I mean. I JUST. I'M THINKING THINGS.

But digressing. Yes. Stede does in fact have Pants of Lurve. And more significantly, he lets Ed get into his pants within an hour of meeting him 🤣

Also significantly Stede keeping his collar open is new. He's had it open before after being locked up or having his shirt shredded, but he's being a little saucy and wearing a gaping nearly translucent shirt with no waistcoat. Positively a harlot XD Combine that with the red "come touch my silk" breeches, he is flirting with his clothes, even if he doesn't realise it.

And last but not least, we have Stede's final outfit of the episode:

What I love the most about this is that it's clear he's absolutely comfy in those clothes. Right now, he looks so out of place in it, because we've only seen him presenting himself the way he thinks he has to present himself.

Yes, he likes his silks and frills and fripperies, but knowing that down the line, he gets leather trousers of his own, he's not limiting himself to what he thinks he should wear's meant to wear to fit in. He's a man who wears what he wants and likes, regardless of whether he "should" :)
