“You have, like, books here, right?”
Myrtle, the librarian, looks up from her desk, at the library, where she has been finalizing a new order of library books.
“Yes,” she says. “We do.”
Read on AO3 here
“Oh!” says the man with a relieved smile. “Great.”
Myrtle eyes him over the stacks of books and notepads on her desk. She has been a librarian for nearly four decades, and she’s seen all sorts, though she can’t recall anyone ever asking this particular question. The man in front of the desk is… hm. Muscular is the best word she can think of, though she would have more choice adjectives if she was a few decades younger and/or inclined in that direction. Chiseled, perhaps. Blonde, predictably, with the sort of haircut that had been popular on Ken dolls, back in the day (do they still have Ken dolls? Barbie has certainly traveled; she’d heard something about a breakup?). His smile is pleasant enough, though somewhat vacant, and judging by his question, this might be the first library he’s entered in his life.
But, librarians didn’t judge - not books by their cover, and not patrons by their questions - so she shifts away from her computer and says, “Can I help you find anything in particular?”
“Oh!” says the man, brightening at the offer of help. “The thing is, this guy Mike? He’s, like, really smart? And I’m not? So I thought, maybe, if I read some books and stuff, he might like me more?”
He looks so hopeful that Myrtle doesn’t have the heart to tell him that changing oneself is rarely worthwhile, and that his best hope with this “Mike” likely involves who he is now. The man misinterprets her silence and blunders forth with, “Not like like, obviously. Just as, um. Is there a word for, like, people who hang out all the time, and talk a lot, and think the other person is really smart and cool and funny and just make each other, um, I guess. Happy?”
Myrtle raises an eyebrow. “...Friends?” she says.
“Yeah!” says the man with the biggest smile yet. “Yeah. Friends.”
Myrtle has always considered her duties as a librarian to extend past the books and towards the well-being of her patrons, but she feels this man may need more help than she is able to provide. “What kind of books does this Michael enjoy?” she asks. “Any subjects he’s interested in?”
“Aliens,” says the man instantly.
“Aliens?” says Myrtle.
The man nods enthusiastically. “He knows everything about them,” he says. “Like, all the stuff the government’s been covering up - he got access, or I guess I gave him access, and he says it’s just what he thought the whole time and people are super not paying attention. And then he said a bunch of science things that sounded really smart. So maybe if you have some books that could, um, explain that?”
“You’re looking for,” says Myrtle slowly, “scientific books about aliens?”
“Yeah!” says the man.
Myrtle takes off her glasses, polishes them on her sweater, and puts them back on. “I’ll… see what I can do,” she says.
“Oh! One more thing,” says the man. “Sorry, I know you’re a librarian and everything, but reading, like, kinda sucks? So if there’s any books you have that you, like, don’t have to read to get smart - could you find those?”
Ah, she thinks. Thoughts of UFOs fly out of her head as she recalibrates her illicit judgments. There are reasons she is a librarian, and this man is one of them. She is suddenly and overwhelmingly grateful that this man has chosen this library, on this day, to walk in and present her with an opportunity to unlock literature, outside the written word.
“Have you ever tried,” she says, “audiobooks?”
An hour and a half later, she has loaded the man down with several audiobooks; a stack of graphic novels; links to browser extensions for changing font size/spacing and rendering text to speech; and, of course, a brand-new library card.
“Now, these are all just starting places,” she says, methodically scanning out each graphic novel in turn. “If any of them don’t work for you, you don’t need to push it. But if it does work, then you feel free to come back and ask me for more, alright?”
The man, who, to his credit, did not flee when she went Full Librarian, swallows. “I - I guess,” he says. “But, I mean. Are you sure? Like, this isn’t really reading, right? Picture books are for babies.”
“These aren’t picture books,” she says snippily. “They’re graphic novels. It’s a perfectly legitimate form of literature, and if anyone gives you a hard time, you send them straight to me.”
He pulls the closest book towards him and flips through the pages, lingering over some of the more vivid illustrations. She’s had this conversation so many times she could have it in her sleep, but it still breaks her heart a little, to think a little thing like formatting has stood in his way for so long.
“We’ve only had writing for about five thousand years,” she tells him, “but we’ve always had stories. True purists should still be sitting around a fire carrying on the oral tradition. There are plenty of ways to read that don’t involve words on a page.”
“Huh,” says the man, staring at a full-page spread of a detailed spaceship. “That’s - that’s kinda cool.”
“It certainly is,” says Myrtle. She finishes checking him out and slides the rest of the books and resources across the desk. “Good luck with your Michael,” she says, looking him straight in the eye. “And everything else.”
“Thanks!” he says with a bright smile. “You know, I always thought libraries sucked? But you don’t suck at all.”
Myrtle refrains from a sigh. “Thank you,” she says instead, and waves him out.
—
She thinks of him a few times over the next couple weeks. She doesn’t seriously expect to see him again; there are return bins outside, and her shifts are fairly irregular. But roughly three weeks later, she looks up and there he is, with a slight, nervous-looking man in tow.
“Hey, it’s you again!” says the man with an oversized wave. “Mike, this is the nice librarian lady who gave me all those, um, graphic novels. Hey, librarian lady, those links you gave me were so cool! I never knew there were all those things that would read emails and stuff to you, so you don’t have to read them at all!”
Myrtle does try to remain somewhat detached, but she can’t help but feel warmed by this outcome. Even better, Mike responds to this speech with a fond smile, first in the man’s direction and then in hers. “Thank you,” he says. “That was, um. Overdue, I think.”
“Oh, no, I turned all the books in on the day they said!” says the man quickly. “No library fines here!”
Mike laughs and pats the man’s arm. “Come on,” he says. “Didn’t you want to look for the Predator sequels?”
“Yes,” says the man, and tows Mike inside. Myrtle watches them go, still feeling like a job well done. Maybe she needs a new slogan, she thinks. Libraries: We don’t suck at all! She snorts and shakes her head. She’ll work on it. She has plenty more patrons to practice on.

Hello Hello Hello :),
I swear it's a coincidence that EA just published a Book Nook kit, maybe they have seen my hint from last month :D, joking.
I am thrilled to show you this month's items, a 40-piece modular library. The bookshelves are traditional in style and perfect for a chateau setting, in my opinion :) The Bookshelf can be made from six pieces: two single-tile bookshelves, a 2-tile version, a rounded inside corner, an outside corner, and an extra decorative piece for separation. The bookshelves are full height and you will get short, medium, and tall versions. To spice up this library you will get ladders for the medium and tall versions.
Now let me reveal a little secret, I made functional secret book doors matching the shelves, I included arch versions too :) People were asking me to make them for years, but don't ask me why it took me so long to create them :D, I loved watching my testing sims walk through the book wall.
To fill up all the space I created 14 clutter items, 9 book pieces in two different styles and various sizes, 2 sculptures, 2 vases, and a box. I matched the slots to the dimensions of my items and everything can be mixed and matched quite well :)
This Set is on Early Access and you will find it here
Thank you again for all the support I hope you enjoy using this set!
Happy Simming and lots of Love,
Felix xxx

Now that I'm on the verge of officially leaving (read: supposed to be graduating, highly likely to be failing) university, I feel it is only fair to share with you all some of the best (/s) accessibility moments that I have experienced over the last 3 years in this godforsaken place.
Let us begin:
Every. Single. Lift. Is. Different. There were at least 3 different "hold button to work" lifts in one building and two of them were consistently broken.
The main/most reliable one was broken for half a term and they didn't even so much as put up a sign to notify people.
Another takes you down half a flight of stairs. The door release buttons don't work. The up button doesn't work inside of it. The down button doesn't work to call it. More than once I had to get out and struggle up the stairs just to reach into the lift and control it from the outside. Absolute nightmare. This is the only accessible entrance to a certain classroom. Every other entrance is endless staircases.
Why are the lifts DIRECTLY at the top of the staircases and behind a set of heavy pull doors. This does not seem safe.
The library was made into a partially one-way system after the initial covid lockdowns. The front door was automatic. The exit door was not until about 2 months ago and had not 1 but two heavy pull doors that had to be opened. And it was broken for the longest time before that.
Someone tell me why to get to the "accessible" entrance of one of the classrooms I genuinely had to leave the building, go around to the other side and wait to be let back in in the rain because students can't access the door from the outside. Feel like this is one of those rare times I would have rejoiced at the "push to work" lifts. This is a computer suite.
One of my lectures was in an art lecture hall down two very steep staircases. The disabled entrance is outside (again), behind the exit staircase, and is not very clearly signposted at all.
Also on point 7, apparently (!!), the damn thing routinely gets stuck?? A passing lecturer had to open it for me then spent about 15 minutes on the phone to maintenance to report it AGAIN.
STOP PUTTING MASSIVE PROJECTORS IN THE ONLY WHEELCHAIR SPACE IN THE WHOLE ROOM. THEY ARE TWICE THE SIZE OF THE WHEELCHAIR AND IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE.
They've been restoring one of the oldest buildings now for 2 years. Which is great- it's a gorgeous building- but the scaffolding cut off a lot of access, including the main, most wheelchair accessible doors, and the car park that can be used to be bypass the uneven pavements.
Bikes chained and left on ramps that VERY CLEARLY state not to leave or chain bikes there
The PCs that were specifically supposed to be given up for disabled people, and were kitted out for people with various disabilities, never had keyboards. Just a monitor, a mouse and a tower. People used to unplug the keyboards when they thought they weren't being used and put them in different PCs. God knows why.
Disabled bays are not reserved bays. They are not extra bays for security cars, or buses, or the grounds keeping truck. They are disabled bays, for disabled people. Use one of the other 150 spaces available on campus. Leave our 4 alone.
Also just making university students pay to park on campus is evil. What do you mean they can't even use the car parks until 5pm. Lectures start at 9am! Not everyone lives on campus!
Wide open cupboards in the narrowest of hallways.
One of the disabled bathrooms is behind an incredibly heavy rolling folding door that keeps falling off its tracks so it doesn't close properly.
Tiny triangular disabled bathroom on the opposite side of the building to the lift, despite the "regular" bathrooms being next to the lift. Had to partially fold my chair to get the door to close.
People congregating on the only ramps to leave the building, chattering away, then getting pissy with me when I ask them to move so I can actually leave. There are no loitering signs for a reason, people. Read them.
#not included on this list are the many flocks of pigeons I have battled over the years#they're just little guys minding their own business#and at least they have the common sense to move when I get within a feather's length of them#we have developed an understanding#I stay out of their way and they stay out of mine#disability#accessibility#inaccessibility#disabled student#university#uk universities#wheelchair user#swearing#caps

facts about josefina, kirsten, addy, kit and julie! :D
(from their new pages!)
✿ To learn more about what Josefina’s life would have been like, author Valerie Tripp spent two summers in New Mexico. She visited living history museums and interviewed elderly New Mexican women about the daily lives of Hispanic families and children in rural New Mexico.
The models for Josefina’s home were la El Rancho de las Golondrinas near Santa Fe and Hacienda de los Martinez near Taos, NM. Both are former ranchos from Josefina’s time and now living history museums that you can visit today.
Josefina’s first and last names are drawn from the New Mexican censuses of 1790 and 1823.
American Girl worked closely with the advisory board to decide what Josefina would look like. Board member Felipe Mirabal even cut off a lock of his own hair and sent it to AG to ensure that the Josefina doll’s hair color was just right!
Although Josefina is actually a Mexican citizen, the advisory board felt comfortable calling her an “American girl” because her story presents a history and heritage that’s an integral part of America today.
By the end of her series, Josefina has a new mother. This plot element symbolizes the change for the Spanish settlers of New Mexico and the Southwest, who lost their mother country of Mexico when they became citizens of the United States, their new mother country. ✿
✿ Kirsten was one of the first three characters in The American Girls Collection, along with Samantha and Molly, when Pleasant Company debuted.
The Kirsten doll and accessories were “archived” in 2010 and have only been rereleased once in 2021 and once in 2024 since then.
One of the outfits that was sold for Kirsten was a housecoat and sockor, or wool slippers. The sockor for the Kirsten doll were handmade by a woman in Sweden beginning in 1987 for twenty years.
The original family portrait in Kirsten’s books is made to look like a daguerreotype, which is a type of photograph from the time. Later, the portraits of Kirsten’s family and friends were done individually to match the other American Girl books.
In Pleasant Rowland’s original business plan, Kirsten was named Rebecca, and was a Norwegian immigrant in 1865.
The team who created Kirsten did a lot of research with the Minnesota and Wisconsin Historical Societies, who had a lot of information about the Swedish settlers who came to these states in the 1800s.
Kirsten’s Swedish dirndl and kerchief outfit were first released in 1989. ✿
✿ Addy was the first American Girl doll that came with pierced ears.
The cowrie shell necklace that Addy wears is special, as the cowrie has ritual significance for some West African cultures.
The Addy doll and books debuted in September 1993. She was the fifth historical character and the first Black character.
Pleasant Rowland, the founder of American Girl, reached out to author Connie Porter to write the Addy book series after reading her adult novel All-Bright Court.
To promote the Addy book series, American Girl took author Connie Porter on a 10-city author tour to bookstores, libraries, and schools, reaching an audience of more than 15,000 people.
Researchers on Addy confirmed when the full moon would have been during Addy and her mother’s escape from enslavement in 1864 to ensure historical accuracy in the timing.
The museum program, Addy at Ohio Village, debuted in 1998.
The dialect used in the Addy books was created by author Connie Porter to be a balance between what speech of the time would’ve sounded like and what is accessible for young readers and was reviewed by two dialect experts at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.
Addy was the first American Girl character to have an advisory board. Addy’s advisory board was made up of Black historians, educators, and museum curators who ensured the depiction of Addy’s life and times was historically accurate.
The advisory board for Addy included: Lonnie Bunch, Cheryl Chisholm, Spencer Crew, Violet Harris, Wilma King, June Powell, and Janet Sims-Wood.
Addy’s first three books sold more than a million copies in the year they were released.
Some of the original time periods discussed for American Girl’s first Black character included the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights era, which were used later for Claudie Wells and Melody Ellison, respectively. ✿
✿ Kit Kittredge is the seventh historical character that American Girl created.
When she wrote the Kit books, author Valerie Tripp was inspired by her mother, who was Kit’s age in 1932.
The movie Kit Kittredge: An American Girl was released in 2008 and starred Abigail Breslin as Kit—plus actors Chris O’Donnell, Julia Ormond, Joan Cusack, and Stanley Tucci.
Illustrator Walter Rane used himself as a model for the grumpy grocery store owner in Kit’s stories.
When Kit launched, American Girl held events called Kit’s Share and Care Party where girls were invited to donate canned goods for a food drive.
Like Kit’s dad, author Valerie Tripp’s grandfather paid his staff out of his own pocket as long as he could, but eventually had to close his hotel during the Great Depression.
Kit was the first American Girl character doll with freckles and the first with short hair.
Development on Kit was started before Mattel purchased Pleasant Company (American Girl’s original company name) but she was launched after the purchase.
After the launch of the Kit doll and books, Valerie Tripp received a letter from a woman named Kit Kittredge who had grown up in Cincinnati during the Depression and was very excited about the coincidence!
American Girl’s Claudie Wells, whose stories are set in the 1920s, could have faced the challenges of the Great Depression in her teens and twenties. ✿
✿ When Julie launched, in 2007, American Girl historical characters’ years had always ended in 4, so Julie’s year was set as 1974—even though her stories begin in 1975.
Julie’s stories are set in San Francisco to express the open-minded, progressive spirit of her time. At the forefront of the hippie counterculture, San Francisco’s colorful, creative, free-wheeling vibe strongly influenced the music, fashion, and art of the 1970s.
When Julie debuted, some customers felt American Girl should not depict a girl with divorced parents. But since about 50% of kids today live with divorced parents, the creators of Julie felt it was important to have a character and doll who represented their experience.
Author Megan McDonald has four sisters who inspire many of her stories. Quite a few of the scenes between Julie and her teenage sister Tracy were inspired by Megan’s experience growing up with her sisters.
When she’s running for election to student body president, Julie debates her opponent, a popular sixth-grade boy. The 1976 Ford-Carter election debates inspired author Megan McDonald to come up with this plotline.
When author Megan McDonald was ten, her first published story appeared in her school newspaper. Her story was about a pencil sharpener! ✿
#american girl#josefina montoya#kirsten larson#addy walker#kit kittredge#julie albright#the addy moon fact is just like what i did for the rewrite's rooftop scene! :D#historical accuracy to the extreme! ;)#the last kit fact is more kit adjacent but it makes you think! :o#and that second kirsten fact makes me wonder if this is a special temporary thing... :o#it's best to enjoy it while it lasts! :D

I got inspired by this post to finally mock up the inside of WarlockXeans' ship. Warning, Long Post is Long
Little bit of OC history! Xeans uses a retrofitted FOTC Hawk as their personal ship, they picked it up in the wake of the Red War and spent a few weeks putting it back together in the hanger after everything had been secured and quieted down. Ever since they've been salvaging furnishings from wherever strikes their fancy.
(Image from Bungie's concept art)
Specs list it as 28.35 m x 20.12 m x 10.06 m (L x W x H) so I fudged my numbers a little to assume the pressure hull was 18 x 10 x 9.
I decided a fun way to do this would be to start with the floorplan of a working Redjack carrier, so I spun up Inkarnate and got to work, ending up with this
The fundamental concept is a pretty cramped robot carrier - everything in the center is Redjack rack, there are a handful of jump seats for engineers, a basic work bench, and some replacement rifles. Most of the time I imagine this was crewed by two people. Utilitarian, very much a battle bus.
After a few years of collecting and fitting it out for occasional guests (they're one of the heads of their clan they took it on themselves to have what amounts to an RV - a nice little place to relax in the field for smaller fireteams). They ended up with the current iteration of the Farfarer
Going to start from the entry and move up.
Immediately inside the airlock is the living space and stairs to the upper level. They repurposed the jump seats (with the addition of some extra padding) as chairs across from a screen they found in tact in an old CB facility. The original work bench was kept in place but put against the forward bulkhead, so they or a friend could work on something while staying in the social space. The entry closet is a general cargo space with a few coat racks (shoes are encouraged to go in the space under the stairs) so people don't just dump whatever they're carrying on the seats. The plastone dining table seats three and was found in a small executive suite in the EDZ. The Sentient Gun Terrarium is self explanatory, Xeans constantly felt like Omar needed some time out with some enrichment.
The rear of the lower deck is dominated by everything that needs water cycling. The rear avionics bay is still accessible by removable panels, but it was walled off for looks. The restroom is fully kitted out including a washing machine (which isn't strictly needed given the abilities a guardian has access to, but Xeans insists that washing hadronic weave helps the texture), but it is extremely cramped. The kitchen is small but fully equipped with a dishwasher tucked under the sink. They keep a lot of ramen ingredients on hand but enjoy trying to find out what's edible when they're out and about. The shelf across from the foot of the stairs is a lot of nicknacks they want to show off, there are a few CB executive mugs (they're solid platinum) and some extremely cool rocks they found.
The flight deck is largely untouched, save for the copilot's station being taken over by a pile of guns, jackets and a few other things that Xeans' ghost Lup made for themselves. They tend to stay rez'd during downtime, and they decided it'd be fun to have somewhere soft to burrow down into.
This is the first room anyone enters on the second deck - it's primarily for storage with a small table, it earned the nickname the copilot's station because any time someone flies with them, Lup refuses to let anyone take their nest apart.
This isn't Xeans' primary workspace - their actual lab is a shared space in the halls that the Raven Seal use - but small personal projects and a portable reference library is always useful. The hive magic circle that takes up most of the space is an attempt to weld hive magic and a miniaturized oracle engine. The project hasn't gone anywhere for years, but it clears their head to play with it every so often.
The bedroom takes up the bulk of the second deck - the furnishings are salvaged from a dozen different places, the sheets and mattress from a hotel in orbit around Io, the desk from an Ishtar collective dorm. The books they keep on the ship change, but tend to be long lends from the libraries, a lot of popular fiction with an increasing amount of Eliksni literature (their grip on the language is still rough but they're getting there) Just like the lower deck, the avionics bay is walled off but still accessible.
The overall goal here was a bit of character building, plus I love laying out fictional spaces.

If this recent segment from Last Week Tonight With John Oliver about public libraries inspired any questions about libraries, banned and challenged books, unusual items that can be checked out from libraries, and library budgets, we're here to give you some answers!
You can learn more about libraries and what they have to offer, both in-person and digitally, by visiting their websites. Here in New York City we've got three different systems:
New York Public Library (includes Bronx / Manhattan / Staten Island)
Brooklyn Public Library
Queens Public Library
You should definitely visit your local library system's website, but you can also expand your scope and look outside of your neighborhood. For example, did you know that you can get a New York Public Library card if you live, work, or go to school anywhere in New York State? And did you also know that you can access material from the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled if you're a resident of the United States or even an American citizen living abroad?
Banned and challenged books have been a hot topic for years. Unfortunately, the topic is getting hotter all the time as the number of challenges is increasing! The American Library Association keeps track of books that are banned and/or challenged, and which ones are challenged most frequently. Dealing with book challenges is part of librarians' jobs year-round, but we give banned and challenged books extra attention once a year during Banned Books Week. The more time you spend visiting libraries and library websites, the more you'll discover book displays as well as book clubs and other events bringing more attention to the topic of banned and challenged books.
Okay, let's take a minute to talk about unusual things that you can check out with your library card. As you might expect, a library is a place where you can check out books (about the BERENSTAIN BEARS and many other topics), CDs, DVDs, and magazines. While we don't have any taxidermied animals to offer (!!!), at different branches in our system, patrons can check out things like seeds, launchpads, or even STEAM Discovery Kits which contain educational objects like games and telescopes. I'd like to make sure that you ALSO know that many libraries offer lots of digital resources like ebooks, audiobooks, & video as well as databases, so you can even have library access without leaving the house. And finally, you should know that some libraries have Take-Home Kits available for kids and/or teens, and those don't require a library card at all!
If you'd like to help restore budget cuts to your library, you can reach out to your local politicians directly, or sign letters of support virtually or in-person through your library. For example, right now at NYPL we're facing a new round of budget cuts which could reduce our library service from six days a week down to five days a week. We're asking people to show support for us by:
Signing a letter in person
Signing a virtual letter
or even filling out a virtual sticky note saying why libraries are important to you!
If you live outside of the New York City / New York State area, then please visit your local library's website and see how YOU can help keep libraries open and help protect your community's freedom to read!

the underground: masterpost ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
the underground is a sims 4 build i have been working on for over 3 months! it is a huge residential rental lot with many recreationally areas for sims to hangout. it is a no-cc build. more details below the cut!
general info:
EA ID: sakurasaes
This build took me about …. 4 months? It was wholly inspired by Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Borderlands, and Stray!! I’ve always wanted to make a sort of city on one lot because I feel that the world is too big/not busy enough. This took me so long because I expanded it from 40x30 -> 50x50. I wanted to keep it small for easier gameplay, but unfortunately I am weak willed and big lot make me happy. you can find my inspo board here!
lot size is 50x50
my lot is placed in oasis springs on the park lot.
pack & kit list
12 units, over 15+ beds
ALL units are furnished except one!
built using betterbuildbuy & t.o.o.l, by twistedmexi
lot is NOT play-tested sorry!
notable spaces ⋆˚✿˖°
basement nightclub
tavern
library
“bubbletron area”
night market
factory
basketball court
rooftop pool
community kitchen
outdoor dj booth
creator notes ୧ ‧₊˚ 🍓 ⋅ ☆
come meet the 32 townies i made for this build!! teens | young adults | main eight | adults
this lot was designed in mind for many sims. even though the unit number is only twelve, I’ve included lots of space around the city for “homeless” sims to live in. plenty of public toilets, kitchens/grills, beds, and showers.
the factory is meant to be an abandoned space for squatters. It has a gym also, so sims can work out!
the basement underneath the tavern is directly inspired by arcane. it has 4 bunk beds (8 beds total) for teenagers to live in. the apartment above The Tavern is where I imagined their caretaker (my sim version of Vander) would live.
this lot is NOT designed for children, toddlers, or infants. however, feel free to rework the lot for your needs!
i forgot to put fire alarms in almost every unit (legit remembered as i am typing this) be wary of fire!!
sorry, I used so many packs! I understand not everyone has access to the packs, I actually ended up buying several more packs on CDKeys to complete this build. as you can see, ‘Journey to Batuu’ was crucial to this build for the grungy tech aspect. Same with ‘Eco Lifestyle’. in the future I’ll hope to do a really nice base game build.
recommended gameplay mods ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
Wonderful OR Wicked Whims - TURBODRIVER
NoBlu Lighting - Luumia
Basemental Drugs - Basemental
Less or No Dirty Surroundings Buff - DrChillgood (crucial so the sims will not pick up the trash and ruin the atmosphere lol)
MC Command Center (turn OFF some of the more randoms deaths if you wanna be safe, this lot is a death trap LOL) - Deaderpool
Dimmed Inactive Rentals - TwistedMexi
Labeled Rental Units - TwistedMexi
Reshade or GShade (i use reshade)
please message me about any questions!! enjoy <3

Books by Babette Rothschild, particularly 8 Keys to Safe Trauma Recovery - She's a therapist with experience with mental illness (including PTSD) and her books contain much of the same therapy and education you get in a therapist's office - they're very well written, informative, accessible and gentle and if you can't afford buying you can get them from online or physical libraries.
And last but not least - seriously pursue therapy or other help if you're not doing so already! You should try googling "[country/city/county/state] (health condition/circumstance/demographic) (financial/medical/therapy) [aid/assistance/program/services/benefits/discount]" or similar to find help or guidance - there's a lot of help out there but a lot of it is just obscure and underadvertised.
I’ve been selfishly keeping this to myself for too long. I hope this can help someone else out there too

Just an American perspective
To East and Central Europe;
It may surprise you to learn American public school curriculum doesn't cover much in the way of the history of nasty shit that Imperial Russia or the Soviets did to your countries and people, directly or by proxy.
And yet, entire books have been written about each one of any given Nazi's dogs, from their bitch mothers to their final resting places.
In my opinion, this is because so many American educators are, or were, sympathetic to the Soviet Union and in the hands of tankie centered teachers unions. They run education, they decide curriculum, and a lot of the Soviet Russian minimalization, disruption, distraction tactics so familiar to people right in the thick of things next to Russia, also happen here.
It's easy to just blame that on the US having fought against Nazis and Imperial Japanese, but I don't think so. The US has a lot of people from a lot of places that want to tell their stories, and while the layman and everyday person may not get too in depth, our intel people do. And they always have. Be they Central Europeans that escaped Holodomer and ethnic redistribution during or post WW2, or people fleeing either from the Middle East or to Israel, or refugees from Cambodia and Vietnam. The resources are there, it's just a question of if those stories make their way into public schools.
And we have near to nothing in the way of history that shows socialist or communist regimes to be shit, unless they're the white supremacist kind of socialist regimes. We have an extreme amount of information on the Nazis, much of which is erroneous and many historians pride themselves on the sensationalism because, "Fuck those Nazis." We lack the resources and access, because it's inconvenient for the ideological sanitation of people sympathetic to those causes.
The people that don't WANT people to "have a bad impression of socialism," or "don't want to let western propaganda rule." Up to and including checking books out from the library just so no one else can be reading those exact books and denying that information to the public. That level of insidous.
If you've ever argued for even an afternoon with a sensationalist tankie, you know the type. Just. The worst double thinker, 'by any means necessary,' willfully lie to you in the middle of a discussion type. And I don't know if they have a manual to teach themselves how to be this deceptive and exploitative or if it's just part of the kit you get to believe so hard in socialism like this, but it's so common so as to be parody. They swarm education and to be that person that can deny information at the end user level, if only to silence it with noise or distraction.

OneAPI Construction Kit For Intel RISC V Processor Interface
With the oneAPI Construction Kit, you may integrate the oneAPI Ecosystem into your Intel RISC V Processor.
Intel RISC-V
Recently, Codeplay, an Intel business, revealed that their oneAPI Construction Kit supports RISC-V. Rapidly expanding, Intel RISC V is an open standard instruction set architecture (ISA) available under royalty-free open-source licenses for processors of all kinds.
Through direct programming in C++ with SYCL, along with a set of libraries aimed at common functions like math, threading, and neural networks, and a hardware abstraction layer that allows programming in one language to target different devices, the oneAPI programming model enables a single codebase to be deployed across multiple computing architectures including CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and other accelerators.
In order to promote open source cooperation and the creation of a cohesive, cross-architecture programming paradigm free from proprietary software lock-in, the oneAPI standard is now overseen by the UXL Foundation.
A framework that may be used to expand the oneAPI ecosystem to bespoke AI and HPC architectures is Codeplay’s oneAPI Construction Kit. For both native on-host and cross-compilation, the most recent 4.0 version brings RISC-V native host for the first time.
Because of this capability, programs may be executed on a CPU and benefit from the acceleration that SYCL offers via data parallelism. With the oneAPI Construction Kit, Intel RISC V processor designers can now effortlessly connect SYCL and the oneAPI ecosystem with their hardware, marking a key step toward realizing the goal of a completely open hardware and software stack. It is completely free to use and open-source.
OneAPI Construction Kit
Your processor has access to an open environment with the oneAPI Construction Kit. It is a framework that opens up SYCL and other open standards to hardware platforms, and it can be used to expand the oneAPI ecosystem to include unique AI and HPC architectures.
Give Developers Access to a Dynamic, Open-Ecosystem
With the oneAPI Construction Kit, new and customized accelerators may benefit from the oneAPI ecosystem and an abundance of SYCL libraries. Contributors from many sectors of the industry support and maintain this open environment, so you may build with the knowledge that features and libraries will be preserved. Additionally, it frees up developers’ time to innovate more quickly by reducing the amount of time spent rewriting code and managing disparate codebases.
The oneAPI Construction Kit is useful for anybody who designs hardware. To get you started, the Kit includes a reference implementation for Intel RISC V vector processors, although it is not confined to RISC-V and may be modified for a variety of processors.
Codeplay Enhances the oneAPI Construction Kit with RISC-V Support
The rapidly expanding open standard instruction set architecture (ISA) known as RISC-V is compatible with all sorts of processors, including accelerators and CPUs. Axelera, Codasip, and others make Intel RISC V processors for a variety of applications. RISC-V-powered microprocessors are also being developed by the EU as part of the European Processor Initiative.
At Codeplay, has been long been pioneers in open ecosystems, and as a part of RISC-V International, its’ve worked on the project for a number of years, leading working groups that have helped to shape the standard. Nous realize that building a genuinely open environment starts with open, standards-based hardware. But in order to do that, must also need open hardware, open software, and open source from top to bottom.
This is where oneAPI and SYCL come in, offering an ecosystem of open-source, standards-based software libraries for applications of various kinds, such oneMKL or oneDNN, combined with a well-developed programming architecture. Both SYCL and oneAPI are heterogeneous, which means that you may create code once and use it on any GPU AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, or, as of late, RISC-V without being restricted by the manufacturer.
Intel initially implemented RISC-V native host for both native on-host and cross-compilation with the most recent 4.0 version of the oneAPI Construction Kit. Because of this capability, programs may be executed on a CPU and benefit from the acceleration that SYCL offers via data parallelism. With the oneAPI Construction Kit, Intel RISC V processor designers can now effortlessly connect SYCL and the oneAPI ecosystem with their hardware, marking a major step toward realizing the vision of a completely open hardware and software stack.

Listed: Nightshift
Nightshift, from Glasgow, occupies the softer, dreamier end of the post-punk spectrum. The debut full-length, Zöe, got our attention in 2021 with its tight, pinging chords and airy ethereality. Jennifer Kelly wrote, “It is hardly a punk album at all on some levels, and yet it also is, just gauzier and more inferential.” The band has since expanded to a four-piece and produced a second album, Homosapien, which we liked as well, noting “a crisper, more rock-band-ish iteration of Nightshift’s dreamy, surreal punk.” Here the band members (Andrew Doig, Rob Alexander, Eothen Stearn and Chris White) describe some of their favorite things in music, books and film.
Andrew Doig
Bedmaker — S/t
My music choice is Bedmaker’s debut album on Dischord Records featuring the legendary Amanda MacKaye on vocals, some agitated and tight post punk with a classic Washington DC flavor.
Jeff Noon — Vurt
I have chosen the book Vurt by Jeff Noon cuz I love this Manchester influenced cyberpunk weirdness, it’s a refreshing northern England style take on Neuromancer type vibes.
Rob Alexander
Lily Paine — Between Silence and Speech
Between Silence and Speech is a brilliant and inspiring book of poetry and illustrations by Glasgow artist Lily Paine; I read it most days. There’s a really good film on YouTube (LILY - a medical documentary) by a medical student called Will Nutter about this artist.
L — Marilyn Monroe — All of Us
The debut album from Glasgow band L on Radical Documents is a jaw-dropping, mind-melted magic poetry rock virtuosos’ trip. They’ve got Jack Mellin, a legendary guitarist from Glasgow who has been part of the Nightshift at some point too.
R.Aggs
Our great friend Ray (R.Aggs) who contributed fiddle to Homosapien, fronts some amazing bands, Sacred Paws, Trash Kit and Shopping, and has two amazing solo records out that are uniquely uplifting and beautiful, each with banger following banger. I didn’t sleep well last night and woke up thinking that I didn’t like music anymore; listening to this has brought me back to life!
Eothen Stearn
Kai Cheng Thom — Falling Back in Love with Being Human
This book was recommended to me by a colleague who runs the anti-racist library at Woodlands Community. I had been discussing feelings of being overwhelmed and a desire to reconnect with the world, and she suggested this book. It’s an amazing collection, a mixture of short excerpts and vignettes, each accompanied by a small invitation. For instance, one might invite you to visit a place you’ve never been, or to write a letter to yourself. These invitations are often inward-facing, but some are like spells, encouraging reconnection with the world and finding small joys.
The author, a sex worker and trans woman, writes from a decolonizing perspective. The book is not just a series of stories; it’s interactive, with each short piece followed by an invitation, creating a rhythm almost like a metronome. I read it while on holiday, and it came at a perfect time. I’m grateful for its existence.
Grave Goods — Tuesday Nothing Exists
Manchester and Dublin power duo who take you on a journey. I’m really inspired by the sound and rhythms of the Grave Goods album. The lyrics are great, with a spoken word element and excellent timing. The music feels raw and exciting.
Robyn Rocket — Love EP
Some of you might be familiar with Robyn Rocket. Robyn, an instrumentalist who plays the trumpet, is a pioneer for neurodiverse musicians, being neurodiverse herself. She has been featured in The Wire magazine and is actively working to make spaces more accessible for neurodiverse individuals. Robyn is heavily involved with Heart n Soul in London, an amazing charity, and she also programs her night, Robyn Rocket, at Cafe OTO. She plays in various projects, including Dean Rodney Jr. and the Cowboys.
I love her collaborative approach, and her latest record features contributions from many people. Her work has a cosmic quality, both in her music and her illustrations. I’m thrilled that she’s receiving the recognition she deserves.
Chris White
Rob Churm — The Stone Tape — Posters 2001 – 2023
Rob Churm’s poster book is a great look at some of his art, featuring bands and venues from the past 20 years in Glasgow. It name-checks many of the venues and musicians I’ve seen since moving here in 2005 and features numerous previous bands that Nightshift members and contributors have been involved in. It’s a great one to look through, and the markings and colors look amazing. It also includes the first Nightshift gig poster, which has us on the bill with my next recommendation.
Alfred Bellman — Congregate
This is, for me, the sound and vibe of our last shared studio space, where Nightshift recorded most of our releases so far. For years, I’d show up at the door and hear this guy blasting out space-age psych jazz fusion — drones, drums, hymn-like verses, raps, and basslines. His first cassette album was put out by Doig on his Cusp label, the same label as our first Nightshift tape. This new one was put up on Bandcamp at the end of last year. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays trombone on our new album and drums in Rob’s other band, Radio Banter. His music is great and deserves more listeners, I reckon. Check it out!

Vocal Clone AI Review – Create Human-Like AI Voices in Any Niche & Any Language Just 1-Click!
Welcome to my Vocal Clone AI Review, This is a genuine user-based Vocal Clone AI review where I will discuss the features, upgrades, demo, price, and bonuses, how Vocal Clone AI can benefit you, and my own personal opinion. 1st-Ever A.I. Voice Cloning Platform Built For Marketers — Clone Your Voice Or Create Custom, Unique AI Voices In Seconds, Make Your Marketing More Engaging, Authentic & Human.
If you’re still using generic AI voices like Amazon Polly, Google TTS, or Azure, then it’s killing your sales, not increasing them. The truth is, everyone is using those same boring voices that scream “unoriginal” and “copied.” Your audience can see right through it. Because they know it’s fake, they don’t like your brand or message. Get ahead of the game and connect with your audience like never before. With Vocal Clone AI, you can easily clone and create human-like voices in just a few seconds. Imagine the impact on your audience when they hear your voice — unique, authentic, and engaging. That’s how you build trust and make a lasting impression. Alternatively, employ a genuine, natural-sounding, indiscernible, and previously unheard AI voice.
Vocal Clone AI Review: What Is Vocal Clone AI?
Vocal Clone AI is a cloud-based software program that allows users to create human-sounding artificial voices. Imagine having your own personal voice assistant that can narrate videos, introduce your podcast, or create engaging social media content. That’s the power of Vocal Clone AI. The software works by analyzing a voice sample (it can be yours or someone else’s) and then uses artificial intelligence to create a near-replica.
You can also choose from a library of pre-built AI voices with different accents and genders. Once you have your voice, you simply type in the script you want it to say, adjust things like speed and pitch, and hit generate. Vocal Clone AI then transforms your text into speech using the chosen voice. This can be a game-changer for content creators, marketers, and anyone who wants to add a professional voiceover to their projects without the hassle and expense of hiring a voice actor. However, it’s important to remember that AI voices, while impressive, might not always sound perfectly human.

Vocal Clone AI Review: My Recommendation
Vocal Clone AI is a user-friendly and affordable AI voice cloning software that offers a convenient way to create human-sounding voiceovers for various content creation needs. While the generated voices might not always achieve perfect human quality, the software provides a cost-effective and scalable solution for content creators, marketers, and educators. However, it’s important to consider the limitations of the technology, such as potential artificiality in the voice and limited emotional range in the free and basic plans. For those requiring the highest degree of realism and emotional expression, exploring alternatives like Resemble AI might be worthwhile. Ultimately, the choice depends on your specific needs, budget, and desired level of voice customization.

Marked for Death pt 2
Chapter one
Tim woke up stiff and sore, but marginally better than yesterday. His foot was aching in particular, and he struggled to think about why until he remembered stepping on glass in the convenience store. He huffed, sitting up slowly and rubbing his eyes. Upon waking up, he was under the impression the whole turning into a child thing might’ve been a dream. It wasn’t.
He stretched, pulling out a water bottle and one of the sandwiches out of his backpack. Taking a sip of water felt so good on his sore throat he nearly downed the rest of the bottle. Tim figured that his body was going through a lot of strain to shrink into a child, so he’d need to keep up his strength unless he wanted to get sick. With that in mind, he pulled out the sandwich and munched on it determinedly as he thought of his next steps. He was so immersed in his thoughts that he barely registered the taste of ham and cheese in his mouth.
The streets were less familiar to him, but he’d been in this area many times before. If he was remembering correctly, he could make his way back towards Steph’s house to the library. The computers there could give him access to the research on the men in black, his parent’s flight plans, and his backdoor into his parent’s accounts. After that he’d need to hack an ATM to get it to work without a physical card, but that was easy.
Finishing off one half of the sandwich, he wrapped the other one up to store in his backpack. He didn’t feel like he could eat much through the nausea, but figured half a sandwich and some water was good enough. He breifly wondered how much six year olds usually ate in a day, and added it to his list of things to research. Tim took stock of himself, pulling off his boot to inspect the glass wound. It didn’t look too bad, not enough to need stitches, but still deep enough that the sock he used to dress it was bloody. He sighed, tossing the sock onto the dirty floor. He took the first aid kit out of his backpack and sighed at the measly supplies it held. Stupid convenience store supplies, Tim cursed, but applied two bandaids to it as best he could. No doubt they’d fall off as he kept walking, but it wsa better than nothing. And as much as he hated wearing shoes without socks, he didn’t have a whole lot of options.
Tim pulled on his boots with a sigh, nearly falling off the restaurant booth he had slept on when he forgot how small he was. Stumbling to the rickety boarded up door, he ran through the route in his mind. Library first, then somewhere to get clothes. He was in Crime Alley right now, so he’d have to make a trip down to the more downtown areas if he didn’t want trouble finding shops. He certainly didn’t need to be walking around Crime Alley in daylight or at night. His tiny aching body wasn’t built for fighting just yet, and he amended his to-do list to include finding a weapon of some sort.
Making it to the library wasn’t hard, just extremely tiring for a teen turned five years old. Or six. He still wasn’t sure and it was kind of bothering him now. Tim kept to the edges of the streets, but he found it was easier to be overlooked when he was so small. Then Tim realized that in order to blend in he’d actually have to act like a five year old. He sighed, heaving the gigantic library door open with his tiny, sore body. Upon entering he was met with a concerned look from a librarian with dirty blonde hair and a green cardigan, and remembered he’d also have to find a way to dodge CPS too. Tim took a breath but smiled at her anyway, making his way to the back where he was sure some old computers were sitting.
The librarian stared at him until Tim gave her a cheery wave and beelined for a lone teen in one of the classics sections. He made his body language seem like he was going to greet the tall man with black hair, but instead reached for a book close by the man’s leg. Pretending to be interested in whatever book he picked up- Tim could see the cover with a hatchet on it, and found it was indeed called Hatchet- he could tell the teenager next to him had stopped to look down at him and give him more space. Good, Tim thought.
Avoiding suspicion from the librarian so she wouldn’t call CPS had moved to number one on his priority. He hoped she’d think he was being supervised by the teen instead. “Nice shoes,”Tim heard a voice say and looked over to the teen. He was a lot taller than Tim, which made the six year old even more annoyed with his sudden change in height. The guy was looking at him with amusement, and something about him seemed familiar to Tim.
Tim huffed, channeling his inner child. “They’re rain boots,”He corrected, putting the book back.
“Ah, my bad,”The guy said, and Tim could hear the laughter in his voice. Tim scrunched up his nose at the guys own shoes, not really surprised to find boots.
“Those are shoes,”Tim pointed, knowing full well they were not.
The guy took a moment to look at his own boots before saying,”Nah, these are boots too.”
Tim put on his best unimpressed look, crossing his arms for maximum effect. He pointed to his own sparkly frog boots. “Your’s are boring shoes. Boots have frogs,”Tim said, gesturing to the guy's lack of frogs decorating his boots.
The teen cracked a smile,”You’re right, I guess I don’t have frogs on my b- shoes,”Tim nodded, putting another book he’d grabbed and put it away in its correct spot and glancing at the librarian who had thankfully turned her attention away from him. “Need any help?”
Tim jumped, looking back at the teen, annoyance spiking as he had to crane his neck to see the stupid piece of white hair in the middle of the teens bangs. “With picking out a book?” The guy clarified when Tim just looked at him with big eyes.
Resolutely, Tim shook his head. “I have homework. It was nice to meet you,”Tim lied before making his way out of the aisle and to the computers. The teen looked like he wanted to say something else but shook his head and went back to browsing the shelves.
Sighing in relief, Tim sat down at a computer and made himself comfortable. He made sure to check on the teen and the librarian every few minutes in case they got ‘concerned for his well being’ or something just as ridiculous. Quickly, Tim went through the steps to get into his parents bank account and checked to see if his backdoor was still operational. He took a moment to reinforce it and make it easier for him to hack into an ATM later. He tried not to rush, but the people around would no doubt find something wrong with a lone child in clothes that didn’t fit him sooner rather than later.
Despite his need to leave, Tim ended up looking up news on Tim Drake. Nothing yet. Which was good, probably. Tim wasn’t sure if he was relieved no one found him missing yet or disappointed. Logically he knew this would take a lot of time, but he couldn’t help but hope he’d be able to solve his body changing issue before anyone could figure out he was gone. That would be the ideal scenario.
Tim sighed, logging out after covering his tracks. He kept an eye out for other people around and saw the teen from earlier had moved to a spot that made it easier to keep an eye on Tim. Frustration and annoyance grew in his chest, but he knew he’d probably do the same if he’d seen a small child alone. Shaking his head, he kept up his research, pulling up a kids video on math problems while he researched.. children. He wanted to know what age he was, what kind of food he should be eating, etc. Considering he couldn’t remember what he ate at this age. He hoped he was too old for baby food at least.
In the end he figured he was possibly younger than he thought. Tim figured it would be fine for him to refer to himself as a five year old though. Most of the things he’d looked into talked about how five year olds needed more social interaction and activities that help them with their coordination, which had Tim wanting to test out his level of coordination in case he’d ever have to do anything strenuous. Like running. He wasn’t naiive enough to think he could take someone in a fight. At least without a weapon. Tim was looking into aquiring a taser though, so he’d hope to be covered in that area soon enough.
Other than that, Tim found that for his age he should aim for 1.5 servings of fruit, meats eggs or legumes, and dairy, 4.5 servings of veggies and grains, and a lot of water. Tim was pretty sure he’d never drank this much water as a five year old, but the amount reccommended was baffling. Tim was also frustrated that he’d need to cut back on energy drinks. Apparently caffiene can lead to high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, or anxiety in kids, but Tim was reluctant to give it up for long. Even coffee wasn’t reccommended, which was Tim’s go to when he ran out of Zesti.
Though, Tim was reluctant to follow this advice, because he was pretty sure when he was this age before he’d been drinking coffee and he’d turned out fine. Tim resolutely did not think about his height, and maintained the thought that he was just about to have a growth spurt before he got toddler-ified.
After slightly longer than he planned, Tim decided to skip looking into the Black Organization for when he had an untracable computer of his own. Glancing around, Tim stealthily made his way out of the library, hoping the teen wouldn’t follow him. He’d made sure to take some quick turns to discourage any tails before making his way to an ATM.
Eventually, Tim was able to make his way to a lone ATM near some shady crates, and used his skills to hack into it for cash. His chest fluttered with nervousness as he stuffed a few twenty dollar bills into discrete parts of his clothes, making sure they were well hidden. Then, seeing as it was getting closer to rush hour he made his way quickly to a thrift shop Steph had taken him to before. There wasn’t much of a selection of kids clothes, but he was able to pick through some more girly clothes that seemed his size, a sewing kit, a thankfully unopened package of underwear, and a better first aid kit.
Tim used his acting skills to pretend his parents were in the store next door as he passed the money to the worried cashier in exchange for the much needed supplies. He was most excited for the pants and socks, if he was honest. He kept the froggy boots, not wanting to waste money when he had perfectly good shoes, even if he felt bad for stealing them. He did want to find a laptop as soon as possible, but figured that would be a task for tomorrow.
Unfortunately, he was still incredibly sore from the day before, and having a smaller body meant less stamina. Tim was pretty sure some coffee would fix that, but he wasn’t sure where to get one so late. His stomach grumbled and he ended up eating his other half of the sandwich on his way home. Again, being careful to avoid people, he managed to make it to his dusty hideout without any problems.
The next two days continued like that, Tim going out every once in a while for more supplies or money. He’d been able to get a dingy laptop and fix it with some parts he found at the restaurant he was hiding in. Hunting down the Black Organization is more difficult than he would have thought, but he’d found out a bunch of different encryptions online, but the organization was frustratingly careful not to put down too many details on their communication lines. The only ones he were able to get ahold of for now were the two in Gotham, which is what he knew to look for in the first place. He’d found them by coding keywords into a program so when either of the two men talked about plans this week, batman, robin, Tim Drake, etc. he would have their communication line. He’d hoped to get the rest of their organization from their other communication lines but they’d only had burner phones that Tim could access. Which meant this organization was careful and smart. Tim could feel dread build up in him at the thought. Who knows how long this organization has been around for this much secrecy to build up around it.
Still, even if Tim wasn’t able to access much, he learned the two men who’d shrunken him went by Gin and Vodka. Apparently, everyone in the organization went by drink names, which Tim thought was super lame. He had a few leads on the toxin and other members from tracking down any liquor names tied to certain events, but it looked like Gin and Vodka were in Gotham because of some weapons deal going down in a week.
Tim speculated that they wanted Batman distracted so they’d be free to move their weapons. He grimaced as he took a sip of his water bottle, wishing for his familiar energy drink, but not wanting to give his smaller form a heart attack. With Red Hood in the area though, the teen turned toddler wasn’t so sure that Gin and Vodka’s plans would work out. After living in Crime Alley for a week now, Tim was able to pick up the local gossip, and it seemed like Red Hood wasn’t just the murderer Bruce had made him out to be.
Red Hood had taken control over the local gangs, and changed the system from inside. Now, there were rules and protections for kids and sex workers. Of course Tim had picked up on Hood’s policies surrounding kids, which waqs a relief as he was now very much a small kid in Crime Alley. Overall, Crime Alley was getting safer every day, and a lot of people were glad Red Hood used guns to get rid of the worst criminals for good. Even Tim could understand not wanting those types of people out there. He shuddered, thinking of two pairs of shiny black shoes walking away from his soon to be dead body.
So, considering Tim didn’t go to school anymore and had ample time to gather information and gossip while he survived on the streets, he’d been sending Red Hood tips. He knew it might be a bad idea if Hood ever figured out who he was, but Tim wasn’t stupid. Starting out small, he gave Hood info on small time crimes by hacking into his systems- which were surprisingly easy for Tim to find- and sending texts to Hood’s phone. Ignoring all of Red Hood’s attempts to contact him back, Tim slowly provided Hood with more useful information like gang activity or rogues leading up to the end of the week.
Tim needed to establish contact soon, and started off on Tuesday with small bits of info, first regarding a drug deal close to an elementary school, and then the location of some guy with an escalating history of abusing street workers. Tim was bored, unable to leave the restaurant for long periods of time, and his only source of entertainment was whatever he could find on the internet, searching for the Organization, or pestering Hood. He was not ashamed to admit the amount of texts and emails he’d sent Hood this week. And sure, the guy had responded, but Tim hadn’t replied.
Hood’s responses ranged from curse words, begrudging thanks, threats, and requests to meet. None of which Tim cared much about, but it was fun to banter with him every once in a while. Given that Tim couldn’t use Robin as his alias, or anything close to Tim Drake, he’d come up with Mycroft as a pseudonym for himself. Tim didn’t expect this to last, but he’d chosen it because Mycroft Holmes was always the ‘all seeing eye’, or ‘Big brother’ in the Sherlock Holmes novels. While Sherlock would always be Tim’s personal favorite character, he’d chosen Mycroft because he’d essentially be Red Hood’s sources of various info and advice over this period of time. Generally, Tim’s advice had been a few coding tips to better his systems, but also sometimes just notes to annoy the guy. Much like Mycroft would do, so Tim felt the nickname was appropriate. In addition, Tim thought it would be better to stick to a theme regarding his smaller form, and named himself Conan to keep Tim Drake dead. For now.
Tim was pretty sure he’d gained Hood’s trust so far, despite the multitude of cuss words from the man every time Tim sent him a message, so he’d finally sent all the information he had on the weapons deal the Black Organization was trying to hide from Batman. Something about guns that could pierce through kevlar, which wouldn’t be good for the superheroes without superpowers. Or anyone, really.
From what Tim could find through Gin and Vodka’s phones he was able to access nearby equipment, and snagged a laptop. It showed the weapon blueprints, and other potential poisons their Organization dealt with. Tim wasn’t sure if there was a poison expert on their team, or if they were just tasked with running trial runs while they were out and about, but Tim was able to narrow down his own toxin to one called APTX-4869. Tim nearly had a panic attack reading up on the drug, but he managed to copy a file stating the effects- disintegration. Tim was horrified to learn that he would have been disintegrated if not for the faulty drug. He double checked their servers, but couldn’t find anything regarding de-age effects.
Frustratingly, the Organization must have had a hacker on their side because Tim caught on to someone searching through the area’s Tim had been through before he had to cover his tracks and exit the program. He didn’t dare go back on their servers, but figured he might send Babs the info if things went well this next week.
Tim was pretty sure Hood was trying to locate him, though Tim’s computer skills definitely outranked Hoods. The guy specialized in strategy, violence, and most important- information networks from the streets of Crime Alley. Unlucky for Hood though, no one would suspect a five year old street rat to be handing Red Hood cases and tips. Having Mycroft as his alias also created the illusion that Tim was older and more powerful than he actually was. The thought made Tim laugh lightly as he sat at his favorite booth in the dusty old restaurant that had become his home for the past week.
Either way, Hood wouldn’t suspect Tim, even if he saw Tim doing something suspicious. Which, he had to admit he was, most of the time. No one had reported Tim Drake missing yet, the Bats were still going on regular patrols, and his parents were still out of the country. As frustrating as it was to not be any closer to finding an antidote, Tim was relieved that everyone else was going about their lives like normal. He’d worried that Batman might be distracted on patrol if he knew Tim was… dead? Missing? Tim wasn’t sure what they’d think when they found out, but Tim hoped that he’d be a teenager again soon enough that he didn’t have to worry about that. But it was slow going.
Thus, Tim spent most of his time obsessing over the Black Organization and gathering intel from around Crime Alley for Red Hood. Spending all that time alone made him feel pretty lonely though, and he’d stared a bit too hard at a playground full of other kids last time he’d been around the area. He couldn’t risk being caught by CPS though, he needed to stay hidden. It was almost time for Gin and Vodka’s deal going down, and Tim was preparing himself for a stakeout of his own.
-----------------------
Jason was angry.
No, he was frustrated. And annoyed. It was a little strange, not being angry as often as he was used to after the Pit. Ever since that stupid little hacker came into his life, he found himself reigning in his temper a bit more. At first, he had to admit, he’d seen green more than once when the messages showed up on his devices, but now he just rolled his eyes when he heard the familiar ping that signaled his informant texting him.
Mycroft. It was clearly an alias meant to show their motives and resources to Jason, and he reluctantly followed the guys tips and advice. Surprisingly, the guy saved Jason a whole lot of time by bringing the information straight to Red Hood, leaving Jason with more time to patrol. And as infuriating as Mycroft was, the guy was pretty accurate on his intel. Granted, Jason was still suspicious. As much as he’d tried to track the guy, he’d only figured out his general area. In Gotham. What a surprise, Jason had scoffed.
It was obvious, how Mycroft had attempted to gain his trust through a series of smaller tips and gradually built up to the most recent case. Weapons. Jason was surprised to find a lot of information regarding the products and buyers, but not much on the suppliers. His informant had even given him a report on the ‘Organization’, regarding their possible motives, members, history, and how to identify members. Mycroft had emphasized caution when dealing with them, so at least Jason knew he wouldn’t be running into a trap. Mycroft clearly wanted him as prepared as possible to face these guys. Jason was even surprised to note that the Organization had planned for a distraction to lure Batman away from their operation. That caught Jason’s attention the most.
The crime lord definitely didn’t have any reason to trust Mycroft, but he could recognize an alliance when he saw one. Clearly Mycroft has been after the Organization, but needed Jason to do the physical work. Which, Jason was fine with, at least for now. He could see how having those weapons around his territory could end badly for him. He’d follow Mycroft’s lead for now, but since he knew his informant’s main target…
Jason’s so much closer to catching him.

by the way, all the popular posts on here encouraging people to support their library are awesome, but I wonder if people know that since the pandemic circulation numbers and program attendance have fallen dramatically at libraries. I can't speak for every library of course, but as a library employee, pretty much every library in my area has faced record breakingly low statistics since 2020. Please go to your library, check out books, attend a program. Many libraries are still offering virtual programs if you don't want to go out, and there are passive programs too where libraries have themed bingo sheets and whatnot to fill out and return for a prize. One of our programs is a take and make. You just come in and pick up a craft kit and make a craft in the comfort of your own home. Libraries carry more than just literature. My library system has:
sewing books, many of which come with patterns (just don't cut them out though, use tracing paper or a projector, so that future patrons can use the pattern)
a seed library
DVDs including for tv shows and streaming content
roku sticks that give you free access to streaming services for three weeks
language books, with worksheets to practice grammar exercises
craft books with knitting and crochet patterns
maker/hobby kits for activities like bird watching, stop motion animation, arduino, power tools, disc golf, a telescope
a makerspace with an embroidery machine, 3D printers, laser engravers, art software, and a lot more
nature books for identifying local fungi, wildflowers, insects, birds, etc
wifi hotspots
there's a lot I can't fit on here, but generally, if you want to support your local library, the best thing you can do for it is use it, especially right now
