shrimp often arch their backs and use their hind legs to clean their swimmerets, which they normally use to swim! pregnant shrimp like the larger female in the back also carry their eggs in their abdomen and use their swimmerets to fan water through the eggs, thus oxygenating them. these two will not stop breeding, even though amano shrimp are not actually able to successfully reproduce in fresh water. I suppose it means they're happy and healthy in their environment!

Six Sentence Saturday/Sunday
Thank you to those that tagged me!!! This one comes from that damn IKEA fic that I will finish this year if my life depends on it!!
---
The alcohol has him maudlin, and he surveys his empty room with its generic furniture and its generic artwork, somehow mystified with the utter soullessness of every hotel room he’s ever had to live and work out of. How can a room that must have seen every sordid and tragic act still remain so lifeless, he wonders.  Before he can think better of it, he already has his phone out and has Arthur on dial. He winces when he sees the time and moves to hang up, but finds the call is already answered. “Eames?” Arthur's voice comes from the speaker, croaky with sleep. “Sorry, love," he slips a hand over his eyes, "didn’t mean to wake you. Didn’t realise the time.”

Chilton makes Arthur's skin crawl, and only partly because Chilton is very much a patchwork man sewn together with other people's skin.
It's the avaricious malice in Chilton's eyes on hearing that the FBI has Hannibal Lecter that disgusts Arthur. He keeps it professional, however, asking questions he and Eames will need answers to before Eames goes into Lecter's mind once more.
"They are... violent men," Chilton supplies, "and they do not... discriminate. They have hurt... each other... as much as they... have hurt... and killed others."
The patchwork man exhales, his chest rattling with the effort. Being set on fire has hurt his throat and lungs; the air back in Baltimore was too cold and too dry for him. Here in Florida, the persistent humidity eases the abused linings of his respiratory system.
"Who is more proactive in causing harm?" Eames prompts. He's even leaning forwards in his seat, as if utterly entranced.
Arthur's seen that pose before. Eames does it when he finds someone who is so unique that he can't help but try to isolate everything that makes the person memorable. They have another five hours spread out over three days for Eames to make his study of the disfigured man in the bed.
As Chilton recounts how Will Graham used to interact with him and with Hannibal during Graham's stay in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, Arthur tries to view Chilton through Eames' eyes.
I would focus on the complexion, the point man decides. The part under his chin has a reddish tint compared to his left cheek, and a few of the sutures that had affixed the skin to his brow had healed poorly enough to pull it too taut on one side.
"And he sacrificed me, to bait the Red Dragon," Chilton spits out. He is panting, clearly exhausted. The nurse hurries back in and reattaches a breathing mask over Chilton's face, before firmly shooing Arthur and Eames out of the room.
Arthur looks at his shorthand scrawl. "Would you need intel on the Dolarhyde case? I can put in the request right now; we should get it by tomorrow morning at the latest."
"Be a dear and get all of it sorted for me," says Eames, only half-listening. It's clear he is trying to sift out the essence of the relationship between Lecter and Graham from Chilton's vindictive retelling. His clever fingers are twitching, almost a mimicry of Chilton's bony digits grasping weakly at the edges of his blanket. He turns to the nurse and starts chatting with her in rapid-fire Spanish.
Arthur walks into the living room and sits down to send the necessary texts. There will be forms and administrative bullshit, but Will Graham is the FBI's priority after all, so he will get what he needs by tomorrow.
The phone suddenly rings. It makes Arthur jump. The nurse runs over and picks it up. "Hello?" Then she frowns and hands it to Arthur. "It's for you."
"Thank you. Gracias," he replies, thrown somewhat off balance, but shakes himself mentally. The FBI knows they're here; they're just checking up on their progress. "Hello."
The voice on the other end is a calm, even baritone, with a hint of southern drawl. "Good day, Arthur. My name is Will Graham. You and your partner are going to help me break my husband out of federal custody."

GANATUS: They are Daleks.  TEMMOSUS: Yes, but we've changed over the centuries. Why shouldn't they? The once famous warrior race of Thals are now farmers.  DYONI: But the Daleks were teachers, weren't they, Temmosus?  TEMMOSUS: Yes, they were. And philosophers.  GANATUS: Perhaps they are the warriors now.

I don't tend to elaborate on my ocs so
Mulumi Headcanons
(that in theory are canon since he's my guy but there's also another people involved)
Present during Edenia and Outworld's mortal kombats, he showed the way of chaos to a younger Havik, right hand man of the commander of Seido.
A god of his people, don't mind him aimlessly walking, he's vibing.
He became a parental figure to Havik once he escaped Seido, offering home, mental support and training for his new abilities.
Doesn't mind people from other realms come and drink the realm's water, as he built a water purifier just for them... however, he doesn't like a few guardsmen trying to take control of it.
Portals around the realm? For visitors, they're such nice fellas!
Chaosrealm's kamidogu is in his temple, unguarded, for everyone to see. He knows if he'd prohibited his people would want it.
His temple is the finest estructure of Saigai, made of a dark marble, decorated with plants and pillars. Tons of waterfalls and a long hallway that goes from the entrance a pool. This small but bottomless pool has the essence of Chaosrealm's kamidogu that taints the water into a dark abyss. It is said that those who are drowned in it will learn new ways to see the world.
Moving statues? Obviously, it's Chaosrealm after all.

So, in editing this stupidly long — 08:56, to be specific — Sera and Manu vid that’s set across the multitimelineverse, I’ve been getting a few more concrete ideas from the footage I’ve maniped together for my current verses, including the convoluted, but dearly beloved (to me), Destroyer of Worlds, which is essentially an AU of an AU, following on from A Quality of Mercy with Admiral Pike making the terrible decision™ to wake Khan after encountering the Botony Bay instead of Captain Kirk, hoping he will join their cause, which… he does, except it offsets an even darker timeline that was never supposed to exist.
From there I’ve basically cannibalised a bunch of “Bad Future” bits and bobs across various Trek and a few other sources with a dash of inspiration from the Mirror Universe as well. But all of that is a TL;DR post for another time.
Anyway, back to Sera and Manu, I was trying to figure out where to put their first meeting and incorporate him into the verse in general — Sera I already solidly have a complete arc for. And now I’m inclined to have it occur after she’s exiled by La’an after their biggest bust up yet (the girlies will stop fighting eventually, but La’an at this point is still forever salty about alt!Kirk with no interest in amends) from the ISS Puget Sound II.
[ Insert that Krinn quote here about pride and downfall being the natural evolution of it. ]
Sera then sarcastic Vulcan salutes her way back onto her shuttle with the intention of going after Khan by herself (third time’s the charm, right?) but a navigational glitch puts her in Gorn space instead.
Enter Manu Noonien-Singh, AKA the planetary nursery MVP, best big brother, Gorn hunter, Lewis Tan looking fine and divine, ritual schmitual, Mr. Brawn and Brains.
He saves her from becoming lizard chow and welcomes her aboard his stolen starship the Wrath, and I figure they have a few adventures of their own together on their way back to Deep Space 19, which is Resistance HQ, since that’s literally the only “home” Sera has left, along with one of the few safe spaces in the Quadrant for non-Humans.
And that’s very much a midway point where they both then get involved on the space station with Admiral James Insane-Middle-Name Kirk, which is awkward for Sera. For. So. Many. Reasons. Even though this James is not the James she pew pew’d with an antique.
Long conversation short with myself, it’s a good solid place to establish more canon with them, and with Manu and Sera both essentially being independent there’s also the capacity for them to go off-station for missions as and when they’re needed.
And then, obviously, at some point, La’an will be back, and that’s where the aforementioned in previous musings Echo/Bellamy/Octavia style arc comes in to play, followed by eventual actual forgiveness instead of their dynamic being teeth clenched teamwork under the mutual agreement “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
The sparring scene from The 100 says it all for how I visualise it initially going with Octavia/La’an being like, “No, I will not forgive this murderer for something she did [X] amount of years ago, alternate timeline or not.” And Bellamy/Manu being like, “I’m not justifying it, but who she was then is not who she is now.”
Additional Manu/Sera adventures and notes include:
An encounter with the Augments who inform Khan that not one but two of his descendants are still alive… and both of them are working for the Resistance.
Introducing each other to different beverages: Manu to kali-fal and Sera to tea practice.
Hanging out in the holosuite.
Intimate exchanges of truths.
Manu being captured by the Orion Syndicate and forced into an underground fighting ring. Sera then has to get the green body paint out to infiltrate the arena to rescue him.
Manu imparting his knowledge about the Gorn to Sera, including how to interpret their light signals.
Manu learning about Romulan culture to better understand her.
Manu becoming the one person in the world that Sera trusts implicitly.
Manu thinking Sera’s ears are elegant and pretty.
Rescuing a group of refugees from a Gorn breeding planet.
Sera eventually giving Manu her true name (and heart).
Sera giving Manu a crash course in (old) Earth history, including memes and the best of Toronto cuisine, to make up for his lost youth on the breeding planet.
Sera teaching Manu how to read, write, and speak Romulan, only to be surprised by how quickly he picks it up. (What? He’s good with his tongue.)
Stopping the Serene Squall after they raid a Resistance supply ship carrying essential dilithium for the cause.
Training together and showing each other new moves from their respective fighting styles.
