so um. i hope it's ok if i ask for people's opinions?

i'm scheduled to go to work at the museum tomorrow but we're also supposed to get a blizzard in my city tomorrow, totaling to about 3 inches or even some more. this is my first winter with a car so i haven't really ever driven in these conditions, and drivers in my city. aren't fantastic. there's a shitty turning move named after the drivers in my city if that's any help. schools are shut down across the county, and the mayor has told nonessential city workers to stay home

i know i'm going to have to learn to drive in this weather eventually, and i have an suv, so it's not like i have a small car or a sedan or anything, so i feel like i'm overreacting but

i feel like calling off tomorrow.

my managers are super reasonable people and i really like them and they really like me, and if i were to call in tomorrow and say i don't feel safe traveling to work they'll probably understand. but i know that'll put more strain on them and my other coworkers who are brave enough to travel, and because i like them so much, i feel guilty about calling off. like i'm taking advantage of the goodwill. which i don't want to do

i also don't want them to think of me as a coward. i mean, i know i can be, but i don't want other people to know that and judge me for it. it's also been a while since i've had to deal with snow, period (we didn't get a lot last year)— is 3 inches a lot?

am i overreacting?

re: "women are backsliding into wanting to be sahms and trophy wives and acting incompetent" i don't think an analysis of why this is is complete without taking into account the conditions under capitalism that a lot of teens and 20s girls are transitioning into.

job openings are scarce and employers make you jump through a mountain of bullshit to get an interview then never be called back.

nearly every sector is full of workers who are overworked and underpaid.

cost of living keeps going up and wages don't keep pace with it.

there's little de facto protection for women in the workplace, where they go to get screamed at, berated, and sexually harassed/assaulted anyway.

sure, giving up on women's ability to live independently isn't the answer, but partnering up with a hot guy who will pay the bills for you sure seems a lot more realistic and achievable to the single individual woman. like come on, this is the webbed site where people make jokes about wanting to be walked on a leash by a rich older woman, where people make self-deprecating jokes about being unable to work because they're so cute and precious, and you're telling me you don't know where the tiktok girlies are coming from??

This might seem like an "old man yells at cloud" situation, but it's just wild growing up and being told how dangerous distracted driving is - how, at highway speeds, you can traverse the length of a football field (100 yards, 91 meters) in a matter of seconds - how one split second sending a text while driving could result in a potential fatal crash, and then getting on the road as a driver and being surrounded by billboards. Their entire purpose is to catch one's attention, so they're lining major roads, which tend to be highways. How is it that you're told how important it is to never be distracted while driving, but still being advertised to?

At best, this type of advertising is an eyesore to pedestrians and motorists and a general waste of electricity to light it, and at worst, it is an active danger considering they are there to advertise and therefore, must catch people's attention.

I'm not even against advertising in theory, but this particular mode bothers me so much and I hate how pervasive it is - especially in large cities or highways.

peter thinks that the Avengers have it all together because they're his teachers and they're constantly telling him to use his brain but it's really because they, for the first time, saw their own "fuck it we ball" mentality in a teenager, and thought "oh my god maybe that is like... super dangerous." like when a parent was younger and they partied a lot and sometimes got into dangerous situations and thought "this is normal" until they had a kid and they quickly realized "oh that's why my mom was insane."

lena dies on a wednesday by @karalovesallthegirls - Lena is trapped in a loop, reliving the day she dies over and over again. She just doesn’t know it. (I think this was one of the first SC fics I ever read? absolutely fantastic)

in the shadow of that green light also by @karalovesallthegirls - Kara wakes from an accident with no memory and a mysterious caretaker who creates more questions than she answers. (I'm not normally one for horror but this is SO good and makes me want to rattle the bars of my enclosure it's so good)

We Deserve Only Good Things by @thornedrose44 - Kara and Lena are working through how to be friends again and an alien has them meet the younger versions of each other (yeah this one wrecks me in the best ways honestly)

What I love about Hellboy and Abe Sapien's dynamic in the comics is that, if you came into this blind, you'd expect Abe to be the voice of reason or the straight man to Hellboy's impulsive and hotheaded personality. But no, Abe is more often than not the crazy one. Hellboy would deal with fighting evil monsters and bad guys by just sighing and getting it over with, while Abe is going rabid over tearing the creature apart when he does get into a fight. Hellboy acts like it's a 9-to-5 job and will reasonably talk things out with a guy that had nearly killed him before, Abe acts like a madman in a slaughter house and his first instinct is to shoot first kill second and ask third. They're both insane, but on completely different levels.

So you know how when given the chance to invent something in the show, Sails (with the help of Mangey) makes a fucking bomb of all things. That is to say, I think he very much likes fireworks and would make it a contest of who can make the most fancy looking one from scratch.

Nine takes up the competition immiditely, not all that pressed about loud bangs or explosions or the very possible fire hazzard because he has his honor and ego to defend.

Mangey is not a fan though, loud sudden noises were never a good thing and poor guy's hearing is quite sensitive, so he goes to hide by Tails' side, who would've joined the other two if not for his understanding of the poor jungle fox's plight in his arms.

Instead Tails sits silently, contemplating every way of murder if his workshop ends up in flames due to the two pyromaniacs setting off crazy colorful explosions on the runway
